  1. Casey seemed too young to me to retire, I think he has several good years left. He seemed conflicted about coaching his son. I think Joe is a solid starter for next season. To play or not play Joe, should not cause any anguish.

    • He never wanted the retire thing. He wanted a year away and barnes scheduled a press conference bringing attention to the situation casey didn’t want. He wanted a year away and I’m glad he is sticking to that.

    • Truth of the matter is, Joe Casey is the only outfielder, for whom the outfield is his natural position, that’s coming back next year. I think the biggest problem this year is that we had too many wannabees playing outfield, like poor McMahon who is really an infielder, playing in the outfield. Even Malone was just serviceable. The other cascading factor was Andy Peterson’s lack of offensive productivity. That caused a revolving door at second base, in the search for offense, which began to effect third base as well. Hopefully Andy can settle in next year as a team leader.

    • What I’m more interested in is why he retired in the first place. His kid, burnt out, Bailey raise, etc. Haven’t been able to get that.

        • Good, that would suck.
He seemed burnt out to me, and I think some of that was Heimlich…anyone would need a break from that circus.

          • That’s the way he seemed to me as well. The Heimlich “circus” had to be made even more maddening with the involvement (lack of) Barnes and Ray. Add to that a second chance to watch a son play w/o being his coach.

I doubt Casey wants to spoil Adley’s big day, an announcement mid week makes sense. As said before, the only reason I think he’d not come back would be having to work for Barnes/Ray. One down now.

BTW angry………I’d be disappointed if you failed to check out the pic of Marie I linked in the last thread. You other degenerates as well!!

UPDATE: I see scotty was appreciative!!

          • I’m not sure if ironic is the right word, but without the “Heimlich circus”, Luke would have been gone after his junior season. I know he did not pitch well in the tournament, but he certainly was one of the best pitchers in the nation during the regular season. It may have burned out Casey, but it helped immensely to have him for the season also and the administration did not challenge Casey to have Luke on the roster.

          • Winner, winner chicken dinner. That’s exactly what happened and the factvtge administration didn’t offer much support under the circumstances.

          • a lot of it had to do with Heimlich, trust me. One reason that Casey is coming back is that Ed Ray is leaving. Casey was really upset with the way Ray handled the Heimlich case.

        • Just listening to him at that “announcement show” put on by Barnes was enough to convince me that he just wanted time away.

  2. Eggers says he has “no inside info” yet he expects a news conference by Tuesday announcing Casey’s return. Sure seems like he has inside info to put that out there.

    • He is a good assistant, just not a high level head coach. I mean sure there probably are better out there but this formula seems to work for beavs.

  3. I saw on Twitter today that Oregon went after Casey and he declined. Nothing official just rumors really. I’m also seeing people say their going after Too Late Nate too. Those poor ducks, giving themselves wet dreams thinking about poaching our coaches

  4. The person that mentioned the bailey raise thing is way closer to pat than you will ever be. Seems like a good source to me. Everyone needs to understand words were put into Casey’s mouth. He didn’t want the big retirement announcement and attention. Think of it as urban Meyer taking a year away for health and then coming back. No one complains about that when he wins, leaves, then comes back and wins. I look forward to looking back on these threads when Casey helps some of
    you understand his logic.

  5. i don’t think it takes a rocket scientist to figure out Casey’s returning. I posted last year that he’d after I read his comments about not having any hobbies such as golf, fishing, etc and his statement that he’s a coach and that’s what he does. Coaches coach and it’s in their DNA until they’re too old or dead to continue to do so. Looking forward to coach Casey’s return and his forthcoming announcement.

  6. Casey runs his program his way, and I assume he and Barnes butt heads about it.

Riddle me this… Have any of us ever seen the old angry poop smear or the new grumpy pitching wedge “official” University logos on Oregon State baseball uniforms? I can’t think of one. Block letters and cursive script, no cheesy Nike bullshit. One coach having the stroke to go against the grain is probably going to rub the douchebag AD the wrong way.

You have to wonder if Casey has been lobbying boosters to force Barnes out, and his “break” this year was a shot across the bow showing that he’s serious about it.

  7. In recent recruiting developments, im keeping my eye on a nice looking JC CB who we are pursuing right now and would be available next season. Would probably be a package deal with his brother if they come here but his brother wouldnt be available till after December.
Talk kid with good speed. Would seem like an ideal type of player to bolster our defense immediately.

  8. Every mock draft has adley going #1.

Nice payoff for all the work he’s done here. After the first year, it didn’t seem like he was going to be the next great catcher. The hit tool just wasn’t there. The fact that he was able to better his production a year ago with a much less talented lineup shows he’s less likely to bust.

Lots of comparisons to Posey. Will be curious to see where he starts in pro ball. Short season A ball or A ball. It doesn’t seem crazy that he could start at AA too.

  9. Dylan Pearce tweeting like he is leaving the program saying his dreams came true and thanking everyone….is he leaving now?

  10. Now, I’m seeing on Twitter that Casey in gonna take the Nebraska job. Someone also claims to have seen a red N pin on his sport coat. But no photo evidence.I’d like an official statement from osu & Casey by week’s end at the latest on what the deal is. I want to believe he’s coming back but man all these rumors are getting to me

  11. We’ll see how high some of the recruits get drafted. That should tell you their level of commitment. It’s a strong recruiting class for pitchers. Really good ones coming to replace the ones leaving.

These are the three guys to watch,
    Will Frisch
    Drew Gilbert
    Jack Washburn

If they fall out of the top 10 rounds, they are definitely coming here and should make an immediate impact.

  12. One of the guys visiting this weekend (June 7th) is an former Arkansas LB, Kyrie Fisher. He will be on an unofficial visit, because he already had used up his 5 allotted official visits back when he was a class of 2017 recruit. He was previously committed to Minnesota and flipped late to Arkansas. He also had offers from the likes of Michigan State, Colorado, Houston, Texas, SMU and several others.
I’ve been told this one is pretty much a done deal and he will be a Beav. It just required the formality of a scholarship opening up(likely after spring term ends) and then his offer and transfer could become official.
Since he has gone the JUCO route, he would be available immediately for playing in 2019.

The other known visitor this weekend is a 2020 JUCO CB, Justin Harrington out of Bakersfield College. He wouldn’t be eligible to play immediately.

    https://twitter.com/Showwdell_3/status/1135700643996491776?s=19

Still waiting to hear if the CB from earlier I mentioned, Wright from Trinity College, will be coming this weekend too.

Anyway, those are 2 immediately available defensive players who could potentially be on the OSU roster next season and another JC guy who could possibly be part of the 2020 class. All worth keeping an eye on.

    • That’s a pretty high pick for Phillip. Transferring to OSU really helped his draft stock apparently. I was thinking he would go around round 4

      • He must have indicated he would sign for an under slot amount.

Pretty much that’s why guys go higher than expected. Teams are trying to maximize the return on their bonus pool dollars.

    • As you listen to Adley’s press conference, you can tell he/the players still feel like it’s Casey’s team. Whoever the coach is next year needs to be viewed by the players as the leader and guide for the program.

    • It is crazy how a guy like that can be 21 years old, the number 1 pick and doesn’t have the slightest hint of arrogance to him. I almost wouldn’t blame him if he were a little full of himself but that is not who he is.

  13. Is Casey doing draft analysis again today or was that just a Day 1 of the draft thing? Hoping his logic for doing it was exposure before he heads out recruiting for the Beavs.

  14. Gambrell in the third round. Pretty high given his production but I’m guessing the Royals think they can coach him up.

    Ceiling is a middle rotation.

    • Wow, that’s pretty good for Grant. I had my fingers crossed hoping he might come back for next year. Ain’t happening no way.

  15. MLB needs to keep Milb teams stocked. Those teams provide good, affordable summer entertainment for many towns and small cities throughout the US. Phillip and Gambrell might find their ways to the big league but I don’t think I’ll bet on it. Meanwhile they have some money and an opportunity to keep playing in the minors.

  16. SBNation has a preview of the Oregon State season. Predictably, it’s not very optimistic. I tend to think they’re underestimating the toll attrition/injuries/new scheme took on this team last year.
There was some decent defense played sporadically, but this team was always too thin and untalented last year to stop anybody for a sustained series. But, as the preview points out, we are returning experience and or higher caliber talent at nearly every position. But they still dont expect much improvement.

The one area i really wished we had fixed this offseason is kicker. Maybe one of the freshman walkons will win the job from Choakair, but that’s wishful thinking.

    • I agree. There were games where the D could hang with the offense of the other team for a quarter or two and then just got rolled in the second half. There were also games when the D got rolled the entire game because teams ran over the smaller front line and/or they couldn’t get off the field on 3rd down. Either way, Tibs has many more option to throw in there if guys aren’t getting it done or if someone goes down.

I also think the experience the young guys got last year will show up this year. It was painful to watch last year though that’s for sure.

LAS VEGAS — The Las Vegas Bowl is moving to a new, bigger stadium next year, and will feature teams from the SEC or Big Ten facing a Pac-12 school.

Bowl executive John Saccenti said Tuesday the game is shedding its Mountain West Conference affiliation under a six-year deal beginning in 2020.

The game will move to a post-Christmas date and be played at the $1.8 billion, 65,000-seat stadium being built just off the Las Vegas Strip for the NFL’s Raiders and UNLV football.

Plans call for a Pac-12 selection to face an SEC team in 2020, 2022 and 2024.

    A Pac-12 team will play a Big Ten representative in 2021, 2023 and 2025.

Fresno State beat Arizona State last year before 37,000 at Sam Boyd Stadium.

This year’s game is scheduled Dec. 21 at Sam Boyd between Mountain West and Pac-12 teams.

    • Remember the days of being bummed when OSU only earned a bid to the lowly Vegas Bowl?
Now I just with they could get to that level again. I need more reasons to go to Vegas, even if it’s in December

  18. I saw future Beavers Drew Gilbert and Will Frisch play today in a HS playoff game. Gilbert looks to be a left handed version of Dylan Pearce and pitches with a little attitude. About the same size as Chamberlain. There was a scout for the Twins at the game and he was hitting 95 on his gun. Fastball is pretty straight but he had a nice curve. Got a lot of K’s with high heat. Had some control issues early on, but he was superb in the extra inning. The R hander, Frisch, played OF and sparked the comeback win win a 400 ft double off the wall. He is a big kid. I talked to his dad and he is convinced
PC will be coaching his son FWIW. He was originally going to TCU, but they had second thoughts and Gilbert, who is his best friend, sold him on the Beavs. He said they really felt comfortable with Casey and Bailey and had great official visit. He also said they met a bunch of the incoming recruits and thought they were nice kids in addition to being really good players. In typical Rutschman modestly, he told the incoming pitchers last fall that Troy Claunch is better than him defensively!

    • If he ends up coaching elsewhere I think you got to fire Barnes at that point, though he probably should be given the ax anyway.

      • Yeah if he’s not actually retiring and he just doesn’t want to work for Barnes any more there needs to be some kind of revolt.

  19. Annoying barnes acts like he wanted to give pat a year to think about his decision to retire when really he didn’t ever want an official retirement. Wonder how this impacts recruits. I’d like to see a younger hire like the chikkettes (sp) guy

  20. I’d go after Mitch Canham.

Been coaching 4 years and already reached AA, fast riser. Likely on MLB coaching track though so probably not interested

  21. I guess I knew what Casey was going to do. My source was better

    Here’s who to call first,
    1. Mitch Canham
    2. Scott Brosius
    3. Tcu coach

  22. I’m wondering if Too late Nate is going put his name for the job, I’d rather have him than Bailey. I can see this going really bad with Barnes in charge of the search. Like losing Bailey and yeskie and that other dude

    • I hope Barnes realized how important this is. We need to go after the best and show how serious we are about keeping osu a top baseball program by offering an obscene amount of money to the right person

      • Zero confidence here that Barnes realizes or cares. OSU is an ATM machine to Barnes, nothing more. Based not on his personality, but his performance.
