The schedule is as follows:

Mar 5 (Fri) 5:35 PM Home Brigham Young Corvallis, OR

Mar 6 (Sat) 1:05 PM Home Brigham Young Corvallis, OR

Also note: the “ignore” function has been reinstated, though aesthetically it’s not in the best location. Might work on that over time. But for now it solves the problems we’ve had. Look for the little “x” next to the post to use it.

  1. So WBB should have wrapped up a decent tourney seed with the win over Nike, right?

That aside, at this point we’re strong contenders to win the P12 tourney.

  2. Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t see any aesthetic issues with the little x button. I barely notice it and it does the intended job perfectly. It’s a keeper

I hate to bring this up, but I have an internet blog stalker who goes by beavergopherturd who is triggered by any negative comments about the Quacks or Badgers. Because of this person, most major newspapers in the US have turned off their comment sections. He follows me all over the interwebs!
The other trigger seems to be not going for it on 4th down. Be advised I warned you!

  4. Did the announcers for WBB get paid on commission for the number of times they mentioned Pow Pow or Pow Wow, or whatever her name is?
In case you missed it, she didn’t play. Nice win. Taya getting her game back. Too bad we face Furd. Von O is going to be awesome.

    • I agree with an earlier comment (NiceBeaver?) that there now exists a false narrative that Smith is somehow uniquely taking advantage of successful with the transfer portal. Also, “casting a wide net” in recruiting doesn’t sound particularly unique among NCAA football coaching staffs.

It’s be nice if Smith could capitalize on this false narrative, but it doesn’t appear he is. If he was, he’d have brought in some game changers on the D line.

      • The recent transfer example they bring up as a successful recruiting job is Tongue, and Smith even qualifies it with us having special circumstances there with Reggie Tongue being an alum. Sorry, but I cant count that as evidence we’re using the portal well. Without Reggie, there’s no way his son comes here.
Who knows, maybe Smith has a bunch of ready to announce transfers coming soon. But I havent seen any evidence of it.

One guy I chat with who has given me accurate heads up tips before(called Treshaun Harrison and Trey Lowe before anybody else did) said a couple possible names to watch are USC LB Palaie Gaoteote and DE Mufi Hunt from Michigan State. But at this point I’ll choose to wait and see what actually plays out. Landing Gaoteote, Hunt and Beason would really help enforce the transfer narrative. But it’s gotta materialize first.

  5. Old sexual harassment allegations (several) against Les Miles are surfacing from his time at LSU. That probably explains why we never took a pass at him.

I did not realize that Darwin Barney is an assistant coach. Also didn’t realize that assistant Ryan Gipson was a successful head coach for Linn-Benton.

  7. Decisions, decisions…………..
Ya gotta choice Friday; WBB vs tree in the semifinal at 5 on PAC12, OR baseball at 5:35 via the OSU livestream.

Suggestion…….try WBB with sound muted and listen to Ron Callen call the action; he does a great job!

This is my final last farewell post before I ride off into the sunset and take my talents and $15 to Blitz. Angry, you’re a lying douche. Enough said. Few will dispute. The rest of you degenerates I will see at another time in another space.

  9. Got a message from google that someone is trying to compromise my passwords for various accounts tonight, wordpress among them.

      • That message was actually me. I had to change my password with wordpress because it had been compromised as well as the password for my Ralph’s club account.
Might be a good idea to reset your wordpress passwords and anything else you might use that same password on, change it to something you dont use on wordpress.

I was recently reading about Florida’s NIL law that is coming into effect on July 1. Does anyone know if Oregon has anything similar being discussed? Letting college athletes make money seems like a rare issue where there is bipartisan support (with the only real opposition coming from the NCAA), so I’m surprised state-level politicians across the country aren’t all scrambling to draft something to put their name on.

If I’m Scott Barnes, FKing, and their Nike counterparts, I’m lobbying hard with my government contacts to get something done so Oregon doesn’t get left behind.

    • I don’t know about discussions in the Oregon legislature, but how about this proposed law in California?

AB 609 (Assembly Bill, not the real ab) would force California universities to make royalty payments directly to football and basketball players, and transform the Pac-12 in the process. The bill would require universities in California to create NIL royalty funds, from which payments would be made to football and men’s and women’s basketball players.

According to the formula set forth in the bill, payments to individual athletes could exceed $100,000 per player. That’s right, the bill calls for divvying up “50 percent of the institution’s total sports revenue in the state, as reported to the United States Department of Education.” between the players.

      • Does that break out to 100k per year? Or over an athlete’s college career?
I’d imagine for most student athletes, this would encourage them to stay in school as long as possible if it’s per year. Everybody would try to get on the Jake Luton 6 year plan

        • It’s an annual payment based on half the department’s revenue (GROSS REVENUE, as far as I can tell) net of the value of existing scholarship benefits.
There seems to be no concern on the part of the assemblyperson who proposed this bill that Universities in Cal would consider dropping major sports or that there would be an issue of equal treatment since minor sports players would not benefit. Kinda effects the balance of power in the PAC, don’t ya think?

Was Abel struggling down the stretch? I’m interested in tracking the news coaching staff and their philosophy about that. My guess is they take a more pro style conservative approach. I really thought Casey and Yeskie got the pitch counts too high. There were several years I thought the lack of bullpen depth and starters wearing down in the postseason really came down to poor regular season pitch management. I get it when you are in the post season and a starter is hot… sure run him up to 120. But regular season I see no reason guys need to ever go above 100, develop the depth, keep guys a hair fresher for the end stretch, and maybe avoid a surgery (though I don’t think we know enough to say that for sure, but sure seems like the MLB and miLB have adopted strict pitch limits)

    • College is different as the quality of the opponent varies quite a bit. So the 100 pitch threshold isn’t as significant or going through the lineup a third time. And pitchers have a week to recover.

I see canham slowly stretching out Abel and the other starters. If he has quality innings, he’ll keep him out there. Abel could have gone 8 but found issues in the 6th yesterday.

      • Good points on 3rd time through the lineup and extra rest. Still I imagine this staff takes into consideration load management just based on them having pro experience in contrast to the last staff.

  12. John Warren was absolutely adequate announcing last night. I didn’t fee the urge to mute him once. Can he keep it up for two straight?

I see Brenda Tracy and Canzano have teamed up again for another round of Beat the OSU Dead Horse.
This time because F.King Alexander was president at LSU when Les Myles was kissing co-eds(allegedly)

    • I read the AD recommended Miles to be fired. Did Alexander support that?

Maybe they can tell us about the new kitchen or bathroom they had installed by their friends at The Wall.

  14. Wasn’t sure if this has been brought up, but wasn’t F. King Alexander in charge at LSU when Les Miles was banned from being alone with female staffers, only wanted to good looking blondes working in the athletics department to attract recruits and regularly asking female staffs back to his near-campus apartment. That would be a really bad look for F. King since it sounds like he didn’t fire Miles when it was clear he knew about all Miles allegations, but didn’t want to hurt the nationally prominent football program.

    • The whole hiring cute female staff to assist with recruiting thing is pretty widespread, not just with LSU/Myles.
I see it quite a bit when looking at recruiting staff members at various schools. Always thought that strategy was pretty creepy, even if it’s effective.

Trying to remember which school it was that I saw yesterday where the profile pic for their recruiting assistant was a young lady with major cleavage up front and center.
Colorado is another school I’ve noticed using this practice recently.

      • Sex always sells.
Les got caught drinking his own kool aid. The hosts were for recruits not the head coach. Should have been like the ole miss coach and ordered hookers.

Beavs used to have what they called hosts, give the players tours of campus. Always insinuating there might be more later. Didn’t hear of any recruits and hosts getting together though. Always leaving them wanting more!

Before baseball blew up, track/XC has traditionally been OSU’s best sport. Glad to see coach Quintana have success after Kelly Sullivan left.

  16. BWB shooting has been pretty off today. Defense has been keeping them in it. Stanford up 4 with 6:10 left in the half.

  17. How hard would it to put up the score, inning, and outs? Pitch count and runners on would be a bonus but you woupd think they could at least manage that.

I know he’s had some key hits, but I was shocked to see that he’s already struck out 15 times this year. It ain’t going to get any easier against P-12 pitching.

    • Yup, no shame for a young team to get beaten by tree this time around. Even little Noelle couldn’t inspire with a three or two, but she tried.
Still, this group could get a couple W’s in the Big Dance. Bracket announced on the 15th.

      • 1
        1

I think they ran out of gas, but I would have liked to see a higher degree of competitiveness. Stanford seems to play at another level against the Beavs. Maybe they don’t match up well? Hard to see 25 and 34 point losses as anything positive and that’s not to take anything away from what Rueck was able to do with this team.

  18. I can understand not wanting to can Miles when he just gets the big chair at LSU – but damn that isn’t a good look for Alexander, the board or the executive search firm.

  19. 2

Haven’t seen it mentioned but the Beavs men’s hoops team will be the 5 seed in the PAC-12 tournament no matter the outcome of tomorrow’s civil war. They’ll face the USC/UCLA game loser (which is played today) on Thursday.

So I have to eat crow and admit I was wrong that it wouldn’t happen.

Still doesn’t change my feelings about the current head coach or that they’ll be one and done with no NIT berth.

Quad 4 losses to bad teams in November and December come back to haunt you.

It’s really gonna suck to see the ducks celebrate a PAC-12 title at Gill.

  20. Damn, we played last night? I saw people saying bad weather/double header today and went and did other things. Synopsis of the game?

    • Rain cleared up right before game time but it was typical cold wet pnw baseball. Players bundled up, had to scratch out runs. Bullpen pitched well to hold the lead.

      • …scratch out runs. Bullpen pitched well…
Isn’t that the Casey method we all admire?
But, seriously, when are we gonna see some real small ball from Canham? And when is he gonna add a sports psychologist to go along with the sports dietitian, Toni Langhans?

        • Have we bunted once this year?
I’ve only watched or listened to about half of the innings played so far, but din’t recall a single bunt so far this season. That’s one of the biggest differences I’ve seen so far.
That and we don’t seem to have a true leadoff guy who consistently gets on base(which maybe lends to us not being in position to bunt?)
Also, starting pitchers don’t stay in as long as they did in the Casey/Yeskie days, although that could partially be just an early season thing to get more action for the bullpen

Last night at his press conference Scott Rueck mentioned Massey Ratings as ones he specifically pays attention to. I had not heard of them and looked it up. Very interesting to see where all the OSU teams rank. They are updated daily which is unusual. Are you all familiar with this ranking?

  22. From the “ex-Beaver basketball people dancing more than Tinkle” file…Richie McKay is headed back to the tournament after winning another conference championship at Liberty.

    • McKay is still a relatively young coach, only one year older than Tinkle! I didn’t remember that he was only 35 when he was the Beavs HC.

      • 4
        1

Didn’t McKay bail on OSU for the New Mexico job, which at the time was considered more prestigious? I don’t think he could be categorized as a success at either OSU or New Mexico but he seems to have found his niche as a mid-major coach. Liberty puts a lot of money behind its athletics and is pushing hard for success.

…and if there’s a point when McKay’s career began to go off the tracks , it was in Corvallis.

There’s hardly a mention in the New Mexico press guide of McKay’s time at OSU, and no wonder. It wasn’t just that he went 22-37, it was how he did it. A tyrannical figure in practice, McKay drove some players to the edge.

Near the end of his last season, Brian Jackson and Franklin High School product Jimmie Haywood quit the team. One close observer of his tenure at OSU called it “chaos.”

For some reason, McKay chose to fly to game sites separate from the team. With OSU seemingly going nowhere, it was easy for McKay, in the spring of 2002, to jump at a surprise chance to coach New Mexico, where his late father, Joe, had starred back in the early ’60s.

My memory isn’t great can someone remind me. Riley failed Brenda Tracey when he was at OSU but he must have redeemed himself somehow? Was that just a one off or have others redeemed themselves or had the opportunity to in the eyes of Canzano and Tracey? When I was in school there was a really pretty girl I talked to here and there and she was really creeped out by Riley, swore he was hitting on her. I mean don’t get me wrong I have 2 daughters, I very much hope (though am not holding my breath) they never have to deal with any BS like Les Miles hitting on them when they are 20 and trying to find their way in life but it sure seems like there needs to be a consistent standard.

Riley invited Tracy to speak in front of the team at Nebraska, which I think was how he got off the shit list. Plus you just can’t stay mad at the guy. He’s just so darned nice

      • You mean Nebraska paid her 6 figures to speak to the football team in order to shut her up and change the narrative.

          • Let’s be clear, Tracy wasn’t snatched off the street and raped.
I’d have some respect for her if she spent time advising unmarried mothers to avoid partying with guys 3 and 4 years younger than themselves, but there’s no money in that.

Understand, the guys involved in abusing her deserve, IMHO, More Punishment Than The Law Allows

    • 4
      2

He made a public apology, shed some tears, and was part of Tracy building a career out of her terrible experience.
I’m willing to bet that your daughters have better judgement regarding the social situations they expose themselves to than shown by Tracy.

What happened to Tracy was terrible, violent, and went far beyond “Miles hitting on them…” Riley screwed up by not learning all he could before deciding on a punishment.
(Not saying it is fine for a coach to “hit” upon a college student)

Alexander might end up having to resign if it comes out that he looked the other way, I think it will be hard to defend. That being said, Canzano should excuse himself from editorializing on these harassment topics. He played dumb while hosting a radio show that took advertising from a shady strip joint. I don’t see much difference. Also, I felt that he and Tracy purposely ignored the nuances of juvenile law to help railroad Luke Heimlich’s career. I would be happy to not hear from either of them again on sexual harassment topics.

      • For now, Alexander has enough cover to not have to resign. But the spotlight is shining brightly on LSU so whatever other incidents have happened in the past, they are about to see a lot of daylight.

  24. I suppose so. Though I don’t think it is so much that he is nice more so that he is so cheesy about it. I mean I’ve know people with the Riley personality that just use it to manipulate others. Also known people you think are a dick because they are short with you and never act like they have time but then turn around and give a ton back to society.

  25. Per Wilner:
“OSU retained Witt/Kieffer to handle the search. W/K did UCLA and Cal AD searches. ALSO: W/K handled UNC system search – and botched it so bad that it has been barred from doing future biz with that system”

It may be worth noting that the “botch” at UNC involved inaccurate salary information, no indication one way or the other that the firm ignored character issues in it’s background investigations.

So, a PA announcer when fans cannot attend?
Gotta keep those pro scouts informed?

USC hits a 3 on a corner inbounds play with just over a second left to beat UCLA 64-63. Turned out to be the only lead the Trojans had in the game.

If the ducks win tomorrow they’ll be the PAC-12 champion. If they lose it belongs to USC.

Beavs will face UCLA at 2:30 on Thursday in Vegas.

  28. There is your small ball nicebeav. Perfect bunt by boyd followed by a bunt by jones. Runners on 2and and 3rd with 1 out in the bottom of the 7th down by 1.

  29. Jon Warren quote of the day…..”This is where some people need to understand baseball…”
He then goes on to explain that with the game tied in the B9, a score now will win the game.

    • He also stated the runner at first didn’t matter as the pitcher was keeping an eye on him attempting to keep him close to the bag.

Let me explain something to you Jon. With runners at the corners and one out the runner at first ABSOLUTELY matters. A double play gets you out of the inning.

This guy was the nerd in high school who always got picked last in PE.

More Jim Wilson, less Warren please

At least I can shout at my son that “John Madden says if it touches any part of your hand, you should catch the ball” when he drops a pass. Of course, I don’t mention that the Raiders had five inches of Stick Um on their hands. I least my son knows who Madden is thanks to video games.

John madden knows his stuff and tries to dumb it down for people at home where as the people at home know more than warren. He said mike does basketball and he does baseball some kind of deal. Is it charity that they let warren do any calls? Sure seems like it.

Once again I remind y’all that Josh Worden should be given a shot at the baseball gig.
He has done p-b-p for Beav womens soccer, and various HS games, maybe more, but those are ones of which I am aware. He’s done over 100 podcasts around Beaver sports and handled the post game call in show last FB season (thanks to the sponsor, an ab if I’m not mistaken).
He was doing the PA announcing today, according to Jon W.

He is the proud owner of 36 bright ties too!
Here’s his twitter, contains a short vid of today’s celebration and links to podcasts:
          https://twitter.com/BrightTies

    • I’m telling you all. You got to listen to his show on 1340 in the morning. He is like Lars Larson crossed with Elmer Fudd.

Beavs win 4-3 to get the sweep. 10-1 is nice….

Think this team is gonna struggle at the plate against PAC-12 pitching

  31. 11

Another nice win for the Beavs, but did anyone else hear Warren say “you have to really understand baseball to understand what’s going on here” during that last at-bat? The irony was so thick I almost choked on my trail mix!

Nice win. Beauty of cell phones, watched the winning sequence shopping for groceries.
Now, beat then damn quacks in the CIVIL WAR!

  33. 6

Looking ahead, Ducks are putting it on UC Santa Barbara and Andrew Checketts today and in their series. Should be a good tough series for the Beavs. Early gut check.

  34. OT, but do any of you guys have a hand router-plane you want to sell? Looking for an old (Pre WWII) vintage one in good shape. Also need a 20-24″ jointer plane. Looking for old tools, in general, as I build up the workshop this Spring. If you have anything you want to part with shoot me an email.

  35. 4

Beavs already down 26-13 with 8 minutes left. I’m not totally buying into the huge improvement narrative. This is a chance for Tinks to get a statement win and deny their arch-rivals a championship and they’re looking like shit so far. Ethan missing shots, turning it over. Reichle missing wide-open threes for the umpteenth time in his career. Time left, but I’m not holding out a lot of hope.

    • Sounds like the NBA allstar game. I tuned in for about 4 minutes and it was just east vs west jacking up 3 pointers, missing most of them

  36. 8
    1

Not much of an effort, never made a run. Lost by 13. Gave up 15 threes! I don’t really buy into the Tinkle coaching narrative. They beat Cal three times, beat an NAIA team in a game that counted in the wins. Played the Quacks without three of their starters and Stanford without DaSilva. USC win was impressive, everything else was ok.

    • Look on the bright side.

Hoops will be over on Thursday and then Parker can return to baseball duties kicking Jon Warren to the buffet.

      • I hope so! I’m thinking about emailing the fan experience people about the broadcast. I’m sure if enough people did they might address it somewhat.

  37. 1
    7

Ok someone has to explain to me how they rigged the schedule so the ducks would win the pac-12 again? This is getting ridiculous, how are they allowed to pay players and cheat so openly and nobody does anything about it?! Nike hush money must be nice… CHEATERS!!!

    • Not sure if the 10 game rule was applied to the east coast bias. That could be a factor but that is a huge disparity.

Looking at the players of the week. The ucks and a guy for tree both had a huge batting series. The ucks guy had 4 Homer’s and 11 RBIs over 4 games while Stanford kid hit 3 homers 2 doubles a triple and 12 RBIs in 4 games. Makes the Beavs struggles producing runs all the more concerning.
