Nice sweep of BYU, though from what I saw, we played some ugly baseball. Offense if iffy. Pitching looks great. Canham is settling in a bit.

Oregon with a nice sweep of UCSB, so this should be the benchmark we’ve been waiting for. I’ll schedule a baseball thread to go up Friday.

Go Beavs.

OSU had 24 hits over the three game series, but they only had one stolen base.

Meanwhile, opponents are having success stealing on Claunch.

  2. Obviously there are competition differences, but we’re 3rd in the conference in OPS, 1st in WHIP and ERA, and 2nd in fielding percentage.

Hopefully the same positions hold once we start conference play!

I’ve been high on Beavs potential this year since the end of last. I knew the talent was on roster especially with starting pitching, bullpen and defense. My biggest concern was the bats. I’ve felt that with experience we’d see an improvement up and down line up but you never know how that will translate. The series against BYU gave me more concern than peace although the weather conditions may have played a role in their performance. On the flip side, our pitching is even better than I expected. Oregon will be a good test. I expect our pitching will keep the ducks bats in check and it will come down to our offense. Would be nice to get some run support for Abel. Odds are we sweep or win series but the bats need to come around soon. Scratching out runs late in games for close wins won’t hold up in P12. BTW, looks like the P12 will be strong again this year. Every year it proves to be so even though the national polls never seem to realize it’s as good or better than SEC.

  4. This was a response to Bill’s standings link on the last thread.

Not sure if the 10 game rule was applied to the east coast bias. That could be a factor but that is a huge disparity.

Looking at the players of the week. The ucks and a guy for tree both had a huge batting series. The ucks guy had 4 Homer’s and 11 RBIs over 4 games while Stanford kid hit 3 homers 2 doubles a triple and 12 RBIs in 4 games. Makes the Beavs struggles producing runs all the more concerning.

    • Looks like since this time, one has moved to USC’s recruiting staff and another to Ohio state. Must not have liked working for Les.

      • So what you’re saying is that they need to hire Sara Jean Underwood as director on campus recruiting? Library girl? I think there were others that got into playboy or other things too

    • I saw in a doc or something back in Colorado’s hay day they were using techniques like that. I think they would have a couple of girls be there hosts and tour guides so to speak. I think Miami was also a school that did it. I just kind of what I thought schools did back in the days and even still today to a certain extent. I think that’s kind of the mind state of a lot of players and even people in general in the US. That if you’re good at football you’ll get chicks and be popular which is also true to a degree.

“Dear Members of the OSU Community,

I write you with a heavy heart and sense of self acknowledgment….”

Blah blah blah. He’s only sorry for getting caught. No need to read further.

NCAA must have some kind of generator app for coaches, ADs, presidents to produce these hollow statements. Insert university and individual name, set tone for “Contrite,” intensity scale “1-10.”

  5. Roger that. Though with GBTC not allowing investors an Avenue to trade in shares for BTC arbitrage isn’t really an option so the disconnect between share price and NAV could persists.

    • I don’t think so, Ean. GBTC has done this only once before and the subsequent move was much higher. It always trades at a premium. Should be a good ride and lucky us who got discounted BTC.

      • I think there are a few factors at play. People are getting more comfortable owning the coins themselves so why pay a rather hefty 2% management fee? There are getting to be better etfs with lower fees that allow you to trade shares for the underlying asset this they are open to arbitrage. That being said the etf let’s you have exposure to crypto in a tax advantaged account. And with the size of the current discount the 2 percent management fee is not too big of a deal. I imagine as more ETFs come online GBTC will have to drop their management fees.

        • 2
          2

Yes, GBTC has already said they will drop fees soon. That Canadian OTC ETF is very very small…

GBTC is great for 401ks, etc. Nobody wants to hold the coins in those accounts. Great way to get some tax-free, too, and that will be important given the upcoming gains.

          • “upcoming gains”
OK, Boss, cashed in CAT for GBTC in Traditional IRA………..now, at what level do you think it will be time to reap those gains and jump back into CAT?

no guarantees, consult tax advisor, yada, yada

So would OSU have to buy out FU King? Why does OSU keep making these stupid hires? Underpants and FU…. come on man! Doesn’t anyone at OSU do simple background checks? Unbelievable.

    • 2
      9

I mean just look at the guy, he looks like a used car salesman…. no offense to any used car salesman’s or saleslady’s here. :)

    • “…simple background checks?”
A little info, as posted here 3 days ago:
      Per Wilner:
“OSU retained Witt/Kieffer to handle the search. W/K did UCLA and Cal AD searches. ALSO: W/K handled UNC system search – and botched it so bad that it has been barred from doing future biz with that system”

It may be worth noting that the “botch” at UNC involved inaccurate salary information, no indication one way or the other that the firm ignored character issues in it’s background investigations. Anyway, the search firm folks will always insist that the final choice is the responsibility of the committee that hired them; the committee will say that we relied on the firm. Sounds like the selection of the firm may be questionable.

This issue is really disappointing. Hiring is one, if not the most, important things an organization does. I’m not a big fan of outsourcing too much of the process and effort. You have to be involved in hiring and if you don’t have time for hiring, your organization has a problem.

My reaction to all of this is:

        Hire a new president – dont’ let this linger and drag out;
        Hire Casey as AD (he’ll turn up the intensity on Canham);
        Move Rueck to MBB;
        Promote a Rueck Assitant to WBB head coach for continuity;
Give Smith one more year, if he can’t recruit (what’s going on right now, sounds like NO interest in OSU), replace him with a coach that can match Casey’s competitive intensity.

I don’t have a horse in this debate but I think Alexander survives unless he outright lied somewhere. Maybe contract is updated for reasons for termination without severance.

  9. There’s an available transfer DT I’ve been keeping an eye on. Was a 4* Oklahoma Sooner out of HS. Spent some time injured and transferred out to Southern Missouri State, but then didnt get to play this year due to Covid shutting down their league.
So now he’s available but not really on many teams’ radars because he’s been away for over a year. Anyway, wouldn’t hirt to let him know we could use his services at OSU.

(Last i checked he is around 325lbs now. Rivals profile says 275 out of highschool, but that was 3 years ago)

  10. Eggers said this morning that:
Oregon State will soon announce a $1 million gift to the Reser Stadium project from a prominent former @BeaverFootball
    player. #GoBeavs

Timing would indicate that the F King dustup won’t be a factor.

      • How do you think GPII got into OSU???? ha!

I think he paid but I can’t recall if it was confirmed. He did show up for the opening of the practice facility so there’s that.

As for the football player donor, there’s only so many suspects. But it could be a player who was very successful in life and not in pro football.

Cooks and Jackson are the only ones to sign big contracts in their careers. Hekker just doesn’t earn enough as a punter to justify.

        • Derek Anderson signed a big contract with Cleveland after his Pro Bowl year, but it looks like they bought him out before he earned the full amount. His lifetime earnings were about half Cooks and Jackson (still a healthy $25M!)

    • Seems like SJ39 is the most likely candidate. Today, the day the news came out was 3/9, and he’s one of the few guys who has a strong connection with the school still and had a long enough career to support that type of donation.

  11. Noticed an article on NFL draft, so decided to check estimated RB rankings, see where OSU great Jefferson wound up:

Walter football: Not mentioned in a list of 30(!) RBs:

    CBS, ranked as 12th RB:

S-I – Fan Nation, ranked as 13th RB.

    Prove them wrong JJ!

  12. Brenda is still trying to tear F King a new one, but I’m not following her logic here. She tweets about an SI article on the Miles/LSU subject, but I dont see Alexander mentioned anywhere. Is she just so full of anger that she doesn’t take the time to read before reacting?

    https://twitter.com/brendatracy24/status/1369478201940926465?s=20

    What am I missing here?
The article does not mention Alexander, and even says:
    “then-school president, William Jenkins”
Yet Tracy focuses on the “then-school president” part only.

    (Full quote)
“A small handful of people were apprised on the matter, Jacobs says. The list included athletic director Joe Alleva; assistant athletic director Miriam Segar; at least two attorneys from the school’s outside counsel; the school’s in-house counsel, Shelby McKenzie; then-school president, William Jenkins; and three members of the Board of Supervisors, the university’s politicized, policy-approving governing body.”

    • “Look for a Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum logo “
That’s from Guidestar, the org that evaluates non-profits; I note that Tracy’s outfit (SetTheExpectation) displays the Bronze logo, the lowest category.
Anyone with a key to Guidestar’s paywall? Might be able to better understand the financials behind her organization.

      • A couple of people questioned her tweet and mentioned that Alexander never was mentioned in the article, even though Tracy is claiming (incorrectly) that he’s the “then-president” referenced.

        Her initial reply(since deleted) was:
“Alexander was the president mentioned in that article. He is the one that pushed to keep it all private.”

Then, later she deleted that and replied:
“Alexander took over in 2013 and continued the silence and knowingly continued to mishandle the situation and hide it. I agree my tweet is confusing. It does not however change anything. Alexander is not fit to lead Oregon State.”

The story keeps changing, but the mission remains the same.

      • I believe her sratus as a 501c3 requires transparency, so if a member of the public requests copies of her financials, she needs to provide them. That may come with some nominal fees, but probably less expensive than going through guidestar.

    • A thought I had about all this relates to how companies, governmental agencies, etc. often handle situations where the organization has screwed up. As you know, first there has to be a “fall guy” or two — some people have to pay so the organization can be seen to have taken action. Consider what a benefit it can be when blame can be placed on someone who is no longer with the organization — particularly when people at the new location take on the job of blaming that person for what happened at the old job (even if they don’t know a lot about the situation).

    • So F’King was supposed to come in and reopen a closed investigation? Am I understanding the timeline correctly. I think maybe Brenda is still mad about the Heimlich thing and not getting speaking fees from OSU. Kind of seems like a conflict of interest for her.

      • Or at least he was supposed to come in and tell everybody involved at LSU that they handled it incorrectly the first time. He was still the president for close to 3 years while Miles was still there. I guess there was pressure to cut Miles loose sooner than 2016 when Alexander did have him fired(for football performance, not sexual misconduct).

So I guess she can still be mad that Miles just left things under the rug, but they were already under the rug by the time he arrived. Seems maybe she should be directing some, if not most of her anger towards the prior president at LSU. Except he has no connection to OSU or Canzano, so that path isnt going to be taken.

      • 5
        1

Why would she be mad about Heimlich? Her national pontificating on his case without having even a basic understanding of juvenile law no doubt helped convict him in the court of public opinion and banish him to the Mexican League.

On the men’s side she would likely be a one&done. The calls for Rueck to move over to men would just be tinkering with a dominant program on a hope that it translates. I say raid some other program rather than raiding one of our most successful programs.

      • I agree. He has mastered the psychological aspects of dealing with female athletes. Would his methods work with guys?
Would Pat Casey’s approach work with woman’s softball? Clearly they have the X’s and O’s down, but the great coaches are the master button pushers. Men and women are not the same. Ask anyone married for more than six months.

        • I think you’re onto something here, BG, but in addition, (being in my 60th year with the same woman) I would suggest that women are not only different, over time they are differently different.

      • So much this. Those calling for Rueck to coach the men’s program fail to understand the differences between the two programs.

There was a poster above who wrote to hire a Gonzaga assistant. That I agree with.

Find a successful NW program and attempt to poach their top assistant coach.

This is painful. The men’s hoops program could be so much more than it is/has been.

It doesn’t take 7+ years to build a fucking program.

The current situation is similar to the Riley trap. There are those who like the comfort of mediocrity because it’s better than sucking. Change comes with potential rewards, but also risk, and they fear risk. Scott Barnes has more to lose from cutting loose a decent coach and hiring an unknown than he has to gain from taking that risk. At this point, the odds of hiring a coach that can win the conference are smaller than the odds of Tinkle’s program being embarrassingly bad.

I still can’t believe we passed on Eric Musselman.

          • What’s the story there? Did Musselman interview for the job and we turned him down?
Funny how he ended up with one of our top commits after Tinkle took over, and then made multiple NCAA tournament trips with Nevada and now has Arkansas finishing #2 in the SEC. But we got the sons….so who’s the real winner?

          • I don’t think it was ever officially confirmed (since that stuff doesn’t get confirmed), but his name was always mentioned as being in the running. Howland and Stoudamire got more press because they are bigger names.

        • Also, I would take Russell Turner over any of the Gonzaga assistants. Not that the assistants would be bad choices, but Turner is proven as a HC and his style lines up well with the type of recruits we’d be able to get (not unlike WSU in their Bennett years).

“He has mastered the psychological aspects of dealing with female athletes.”

“Those calling for Rueck to coach the men’s program fail to understand the differences between the two programs. “

Spot on. BG and WSN get it.

It may have been Rueck who said, “Women can’t win unless they are happy, Men can’t be happy unless they win.”
I think there is a lot of truth there. We all see Rueck’s emphasis on “Family”, Tinkle………….Go Hard?

BASEBALL: Weather looking good for Fri/Sat, OK for Sunday.
Small sample, but duck ERA is 3.82, Beavs 1.64 (#4 in the Nation).
If true, are we gonna see the Beavs take on a team which is weak in pitching and strong batting?
Seems like the best type of matchup to me…maybe.
    Play Ball!

BTW: ucks are #4 in Fielding at .993, Beavs .985 (#18)…….that needs to change.

  14. Sounds like the Beavs should have several “unofficial” visitors over thr next 2 weeks during spring break. Should be a good oppotunity to pick up their first 2022 commit.
I’ll hopefully have a gut bomb or 2 for you in the next week.
If not, I’ll be offline pretty much the entire next week while my kids are on break, so updates may have to wait another week.

ESPN G League wrap up commented on GPII. Says while he offers really nothing offensively, he’ll get time in the league because of his defense. He’s not a good shooter from outside the paint and the NBA is all about 3’s these days. Will probably be the 14-15th guy on the roster.

No comments on Tinkle or Kelley. They didn’t do much. Good enough to be in the minors for a while but they’ll need a breakout year to make it to the next level.

    • I would guess Henry that guy was a real piece of work. Not sure if he ever had 200 yds and was on the team at the same time.

  16. Kenyon Yovan is still playing baseball at oregon?
Must be on the Jake Luton plan. His career started in 2017 and he’s still listed as a junior, haha.

  17. Just saw it was one year ago, the nba suspended their season and in the days that followed so did everyone else. Feels like 3-4 years have passed since. What a time to be alive!

  18. 1
    2

Beavs MBB looking especially inept, down 16 in the first half with about 6 minutes left. This is really Tinks best coaching job? Kiss the NIT goodbye.

  19. 1
    1

First team all pac 12 my ass. Thompson shutout so far in first half. Good players step up in tournament time and when the team is struggling. This team is just wildly inconsistent.

  20. 2
    1

Zach Reichle with a pathetic attempt at a reverse layup there. Looked like a prayer and a dying quail at the same time.

    Senior leadership

  21. What they did right there to Alitishe for the dunk + 1 is what they should’ve been doing all game. UCLA is giving up the baseline. Time and time again I’ve seen one of the Beaver bigs with position down low with the defender in front of them. All they’ve had to do is pass it over the top for a point blank attempt at the basket.

    • 1
      1

Everytime they do try that pass they fuck it up and turn it over. They’re terrible at getting the ball into the post. It’s very frustrating to watch.

      • They didn’t that time. I do somewhat agree with you. This is where the lack of a true PG with above average passing skills hurts. But maybe I’m just old school and those types of players aren’t the norm anymore.

  22. 2
    1

Well, I have some egg on my face. Alitishe is going off, game tied. Let’s see if the Beavs can keep it up. 45-45 with 9 plus left.

      • 2
        2

Even if they do manage to pull this out of their ass, they won’t beat Oregon tomorrow. Ducks are playing well and it’s going to be ducks/buffs in the championship game.

  23. 1
    1

Was that really the play? Having Thompson dribble around and then shoot a long three, which of course he missed. There’s not a better play when you are down two with a little over two minutes left.

  24. Wow. UCLA had numbers on a fast break and manages to turn it over with 4 seconds left. It would’ve given them the lead. Beavs make their FT’s and hang on in OT, 83-79.

Good W. Still don’t think it’s enough to sniff the NIT.

    Ducks tomorrow at 5:30

  25. Need more visceral hate on tinkle during the game tomorrow if you want to win. It’s been working all year!

Also the game was classic pac12. Team solidly in the tourney is now on the bubble because they got upset.

    • 2
      3

This win just makes me want him gone even more because he’s pulling a Riley and getting close to winning something major without actually pulling it off.

      • Close to winning something major? Not close at all. Closer than past years but they barely won a conference tourney game. Do you really think they will win two more games against good opponents? Once again the team started out flat and had to make a comeback. How would we all be feeling if they had made a comeback and lost by 7 ish? That was the story I was expecting.

      • 1
        1

If he wins out, I’ll start to come around. He has 2 years to prove himself. Barnes better not think about any sort of extension after next year unless he makes the tournament.

        • 2
          1

He wins out, he’ll get an extension. I’m good with extending bball coaches who consistently make the tourney. Every tourney made, add one year to the deal. But length of contract is max 4 years. So missing 3 years in a row puts him on the edge.

      • 3
        1

Let’s see if the Quacks blow out the Beavs tomorrow and they don’t sniff the NIT. Then it’s really more of the same heading towards an eighth season. If they beat them, I would give him some credit for putting something together.

        • 1
          1

No way. He gets credit when he actually accomplishes something. Beating the Ducks then losing to Colorado probably doesn’t get us to the NIT. There’s a chance, but I think we needed one more Quad 1 to pull that off (or 1-2 fewer bad losses).

Winning the conference tournament and making the tourney with this roster? That would be something.

          • They will get smoked today, so put your worries to bed. I wonder how this would have all played out if the coaches kids were never on the team?

  26. If Tinkle gets any kind of an extension even after winning a conference tourney it will be another classic OSU AD over-reach and maddening buffoonery on Barnes’ part.

Let him do it twice at least before any kind of extension. He is stuck with no prospects of getting other opportunities, don’t lose leverage by extending him now.

  27. 2
    1

No way – I think the statistics in this game – rebound difference, 2nd chance points difference, two examples. Poor shooting throughout the season – especially in the first half of games. Players not improving during the season(s). Bigs not developing. This gutsy group has some talent and that seems to propel them. I hope they do get an NIT bid but I don’t think Tinkle or Rupp deserve all that much credit if they do.

  28. 2
    1

What is the highest tinkle has even finished in the league? He’s a .500 coach. The question is is that all you expect? I would like to have higher expectations than that. Tinkle just has too many obvious flaws. His teams drop games they should win, don’t develop players, stagnate on offense, poor free throw shooting, and an inability to recruit and play a true point guard.

    • I think 4th was the highest two years ago but the pac12 was weak. They made it into the tourney finishing 6th and made it in due to the strength of the conference.

If the conf was strong this year, they would’ve been right on the bubble.

        • They didn’t finish 5th. They finished tied for 6th. They only got the 5 seed because Arizona is not eligible for the postseason and they won a tiebreaker with Stanford.

    • Tinkle does have flaws. However, your best player who is a senior and somehow first team all conference scored zero points the first half. Who gets the blame there… yes they win the game but too ma y inconsistent performances form players that should show up every game.

  29. Maybe a question for the MBB podcast guy…

Why were Ralph Miller’s teams so bad in the tournament? I was looking through MBB history and I was surprised by how many upset losses his teams suffered in the first round of the tournament, almost on a yearly basis.

  30. In looking at the conference season, there’s two versions of the Beavs. In the losses, they were never in the game at all. They never held the lead at halftime. Only one time they were tied at the half was vs Stanford and in only that game did they take the lead early in the second half for a brief second.

In the wins, they held the lead 5 times at half. So in 15 of the 20 conference games, they trailed at halftime.

So if the Beavs take a second half lead, watch out! They close out games!

  31. 4
    3

Anyone who think Alexander was going to come into LSU and one of his first big moves was to authorize getting rid of Miles doesn’t understand the SEC. Odd though that LSU kinda went into the tank after Miles was called on the carpet. No “motivation?” By all means OSU should be able to fire Alexander for cause – his resume was incomplete. The search firms are mainly there to provide cover/secrecy for the involved parties – it isn’t like they hire Jim Rockford is hunting for office gossip.
“Due diligence” these days is asking someone if they have their drinking/gambling/sex life under control and taking yes for an answer.

Is it odd that I think men’s hoops might be better without a Thompson or a Tinkle on the floor? I imagine it’s a weird dynamic between Ethan, his dad and Tinkle. And was for him and Tres. Particularly the losing seasons.

  32. 4
    3

Damn, a good number of you guys are hard on Tinkle and men’s BB. It’s like there’s a contest to see who can make the most snide comment. Aside from Tinkle’s coaching ability (or not) I see a lot of trash about individual players who are giving it all they’ve got. Anybody remember December? Consider how far they’ve come?

  33. 7
    1

This is what is wrong with social media and the internet in general. I will start out by saying we get to the same place in thinking the OS basketball program is middle of the road and likely won’t be better than that with Tinkle. But mediocre is still slightly better than tragically bad. The problem I see with the posts are that every aspect of the game is not awful as much as people say that it is. Anyone who says that there is no progression in these players haven’t been watching the bigs. Roman Silva was not skilled when he got to OS, but now his footwork is very good and even with below average athleticism he is a decent big. Jared Lucas didn’t play much defense last year but made big strides this season on the defensive end. Zack Reichel is light years from where he started. This team is scrappy, no deficit seems to rattle them.

I think the issue with this team is still talent and x and o coaching. That is my assessment of the flaws but it is hard to imagine that a coaching staff that does everything wrong can ecen be mediocre.

I’m enjoying the win, why can’t you?

      • Actually, the stats bear it out. Reichle has improved every year. I was surprised, but it’s pretty hard to ignore.

        https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/zach-reichle-1.html

Sparky I agree with you, to an extent. The comments on here overlook the nuances you mention, but I think we all generally feel the same about the overarching narrative. Tinkle has failed to recruit P12 caliber players, so anything he achieves is due to overachieving with lesser talent. He also doesn’t seem to be a great tactical coach. I’m sure he’s great in practices.

Tinkle is not going to become a better recruiter overnight. Extended mediocrity is worse than tragically bad in a sport like basketball where programs can be turned around quickly (in both directions). With tragically bad, there’s the inevitability that the coach will be fired and the next guy may be better. With mediocrity, you’re stuck in purgatory with little hope of improvement. That makes it even harder to recruit, because all you have left to sell is playing time. I guess that will be easier with the coaches’ kids gone.

Sports are fun because of the narrative. I think of them like movies: I can appreciate really good movies (for their craftsmanship and how they can move us) and really bad movies (because they can be funny in their ineptness and failure to simulate real life), but I don’t have 2 hours to watch a mediocre movie. OSU basketball has been a mediocre movie for the last five years. Give me The Godfather or give me The Room, but I refuse to sit through another Aquaman.

        • Huh? According to your link, Reichle is shooting a worse percentage this year on both 2 pt shots and 3 pt shots. Despite playing fewer minutes.

The biggest jump he made stats wise was between his sophomore and junior year.

Not sure what you’re looking at.

Reichle is at best average. Maybe serviceable. At 8 or 9 of the other PAC-12 schools he’s not a starter (as a senior) and is a role player off the bench.

He gets 25+ minutes a game because he plays at Oregon St.

          • I was looking at the rate stats. Agree that junior/senior years have been roughly similar. He’s definitely made a big leap since his underclassmen years, though.

He’s a good glue guy, but most teams have someone at the 3 spot who’s either a better shooter or better athlete.

          • That’s his main quality yet he’s been passing up way too many looks. Thankfully he didn’t yesterday and came up big. Hopefully he has some confidence back and will take them when he has them.

        • “ Tinkle has failed to recruit P12 caliber players, so anything he achieves is due to overachieving with lesser talent.”

Therein lies the problem. He’s never going to get the program better (average finish of 8th not including this season) if he can’t recruit better players.

I guess that’s the difference between you and I. I expect to see improvement after idk, 5+ years? When you finish 5th or 6th with an upperclassman team and can’t build on that?

1 NCAA tournament berth. Zero NIT. I read they’re talking about accepting a CBI invitation if it comes. This is acceptable to you? Because they don’t suck???

    • Sports are emotional. People say things that don’t make sense because it’s emotional. We view the team losing as us losing. Then we say shit equally stupid to if we were actually losing. There’s tons of psychology about sports/fans. I’ve shared BIRGING and CORFING here, but there’s a lot more.

        • Do you think he’s still lurking and not commenting? I find it hard to believe someone like him could just walk away. Seems like the Beavs teams and his hate for the ducks makes up a large portion of his life.

My only problem with OSU’s MBB has been the leadership provided by the coaches’ sons the past what, 3 years? Even this year, Thompson’s body language says that he doesn’t want to be there at times. A lot of the other players jumped to the D1 level from a lower level college to come play at OSU, and their effort shows that they belong. Thompson should be the most vocal and enthusiastic play to rally the troops but, surprisingly, it looked like Reichle was the one yesterday being the true leader and giving the younger players advice.

While I’m getting annoyed with mediocrity, I want to see what Tinkle can do for a season or two without the coaches’ sons on the roster. I will gladly take a less talented mediocre team that gives more effort than one that is loaded with talent and underperforms. If Tinkle makes the NIT next year, resign him to a one year contract and give him a shot to make the NCAA tourney the next.

  34. Net ranking only went up 5 spots (101) after beating UCLA.
    UCLA dropped 5 spots (42nd to 47th).

    Oregon (32)
    Colorado (12)
    USC (14)

Beavs are definitely the uninvited guest in the semis. To even get a sniff from the NIT they’d need to move up probably into the 70’s net ranking. I just don’t see that happening with a win in the semis and a loss in the title game.

At this point it’s win out and go to the big dance or CBI.

    Dear Mitch,

Please give us a civil war sweep this weekend.

    • What sucks is the teams that are currently projected in the NIT were basically .500 against the top 3 quads, they just all went 1.000 against quad 4. We have two quad 4 losses.

So it’s those two bad losses that are keeping us out of the NIT.

      • Win the games you’re supposed to. Don’t lose to bad teams (Wyoming and Portland). Simple as that really. Have Tinkle’s teams consistently ever done that???

        Asking for a friend.

And yes. You are correct. Had the Beavs not lost either of those games, they’d be a shoe in for the NIT right now and possibly on the bubble for the NCAA tournament.

Games in November and December matter

  35. To my previous comment about recruiting on playing time being easier with the coaches’ kids gone, here’s what Dashawn Davis said about committing:

“This is the best choice for me because they’re going to build a team around me. The ball’s going to be in my hands.”

I guess they see him as our ET replacement.

  38. Is there any interest in having me start up a Beavrecruiting March Madness pool on the CBS platform?
Would be similar to past years. I’d would consider making it have a nominal entrance fee and have a pool payout to the top 2 finishers, but I dont think i want the responsibility of handling other people’s money, so it would be free with no payout.
