Home Football Scrimmage + Fall Camp Continued

Scrimmage + Fall Camp Continued

321

The scrimmage today is closed, but they announced the scrimmage next weekend will be open to the public.

O-live has an article up how Musgrave will be the next 1,000 yard receiving TE at OSU. O-live also pointed out Harrison as a standout from yesterday’s practice. Very good to hear, along with Gebbia out performing Noyer so far. All good stuff.

I’ll keep this thread up through the week and make a new one for next week’s open scrimmage.

  2. Things looking to hear about in the scrimmage today.
*Obviously QB play. Do we have a guy ready to lead a talented offense.
*Who is going to break out at WR? Beason takes the next step, Harrison, Tongue, Dunmore, or Lisdsay live up to their potential? Bradford has his best season?.
*RB Carry shares. Doubt we find out much from this scrimmage here.
    * DL who replaces Hodgins? How does Sio look? Will they be more stout at the point of attack?
DB who will start opposite of Wright? Who are the starting safeties going to be? Can the safeties be better in pass coverage and force turnovers?
LB are guys ready to step up behind the proven ILBs?
K is everrett going to be reliable inside the 35?

Probably most of this won’t be answered today but hopefully we can get a better feel for things. Who knows how intense the scrimmage will actually be? Biggest thing is to stay healthy. They can’t afford anymore injuries.

I’m hoping the defense displays a clear advantage today, and limits big plays.

RBs always run hard, but don’t run far, and hold onto the ball amidst gang tackles.

Hope Gebbia finds throwing lanes, and is not getting passes batted down, but said passes are contested by DBs. I expect Wright is going to be cocky today, pressing and hopefully smothering receivers.

Please no injuries Great Beaver in the Sky, especially on DLine and DB….except this solemn offering of burnt cottonwood wood chips.

Gebbia tipped pass (again) that resulted in a pick 6.

If those tip issues aren’t resolved by Sept, Noyer should start just for that reason. Those tips are extremely annoying and dangerous.

  5. Sounds like the defense won the day. They had 4 interceptions including 2 by Robinson. Edge showed that Lolohea rotated in with the 1s along with Skelton.

  6. 4
    3

“Fifteen different players caught passes during the scrimmage, though one wasn’t tight end Luke Musgrave.”

Sounds like the defense made it a priority to lock on him.

Champ led receiving with 3 receptions for 26.

No it doesn’t. Sounds like he just didn’t have a catch. Saw one play where arnold locked him down 1 on 1 down the sideline.

  7. 5
    1

Valsin, Baylor, and Overman had TDs.

Sounds like Robinson might be a pleasant surprise and could have 4 solid corners. No mention of Forest. I thought he was decent as a true freshman on a bad D and that the coaches must’ve seen something in him. He definitely took some lumps but I thought he would’ve improved a lot and learned from his experience. Now it seems he’s been passed by granted we added a JC and grad transfer but I haven’t heard anything about him at all. Arnold, Julian, Oladapo, Hardge and Russel seem to be having pretty good camps. The secondary is starting yo sound like they’ve grown a lot as a unit. Credit to coach Blue if that’s the case. Could be a big time hire for Smith.

A big one for today. RBs had 30 carries for 111 yards with a long of 10 yards. Less than 4 yards a carry would be massive for this team. 2019 we were 4.6 (mostly cause of all the sacks), 2012 we were at 4.0. We haven’t been under 4 since 2009 when we were 3.8. You can’t be a good team giving up more than 4 yards a carry unless your offense is bananas.

      • This is why good teams the defense should be ahead in pre-season. They know the plays and the personnel, if they can’t execute then they are either physically unable to or making mistakes.

        • The defense looks fast (especially at LB), the DL doesn’t look like they get blown off the line, and the safeties are coming up to make tackles. Tackling looks a lot better than it has in years’ past.

Overall, this looks like a defense that can defend the edge/perimeter.

          • 4
            1

I really think it is. I wouldn’t claim they are elite but I think we finally have the personnel to play 3-4 at a good level. I’m excited to see how the early plan of focusing on length and athleticism on the line and corner will start making things hard on other teams by limiting angles of attack.

          • 1
            1

Yeah I think we’re better than a “bend but don’t break D” this year. Should get more sacks and turnovers. Should looks more like a real D. Good depth, too, if we don’t lose any more guys.

          • Bend but don’t break with pressure is just a lock down defense. The difference is really just time a qb and receivers have. If we can limit qb’s to less than 4 seconds before they have to make a decision (move, throw, get rid of it or scramble) then we will be annihilating teams with these corners.

          • Brandon Hughes and Keenan Lewis were probably the best combo I can remember in recent memory but even then they struggled with the old turning and looking for the ball that seemed to plague Banker CBs. Did pretty well in the pros tho. Seems like OSU always seems to have 1 good corner at a time. Remember Crawford? Its a tragedy that guy transferred. Wouldn’t he have been opposite of Decoud or somebody like that? Classic luck O’ da Beavs right there.

That said Wright sounds like the real deal, Jones is proven and experienced as well as Austin who is still fairly young and seems poised to take the next step and Robinson is icing on the cake. If Forest is the 5th corner that’s not too shabby with his amount of experience and he might be even lower than that. A somewhat puzzling situation. Possible transfer? I’ve seen hardge in front of him on depth charts.

Also heard some mentions of Massey. I’m bullish on him and think he provides good depth if nothing else.

  9. Latest Smith. Says no missed tackles, which would be huge if they finally learned that fundamental. Smith looks happy, even a little confident, in the video. Something brewin’!

    • Lots of gushing about secondary.

OL highlighted as the leaders of the offense (Kipper, Nous, Gray)…waiting for a WR to step up as a leader.

QB competition: still leaving the door open for Nolan and Vidlak, but Gebbia and Noyer are the ones getting most of the reps, so…

  10. Some thoughts from the scrimmage film:

-Bad day for Noyer. Pass pro wasn’t great, but there are some ugly unforced errors in there that don’t seem like they’re just a product of the defense being ahead of the offense at this point. Gebbia’s interception/Colletto’s pick-6 was similar, but he looks like the better of two bad options **at this point.**
-Lots of different guys getting in at RB. Fenwick, Baylor, Collins, and Newell all had good runs. Shannon got some playing time, too. No sign of Lowe or Madison.
-I didn’t see Nolan at all (could just be what they chose to show/not show). Vidlak seems like he’s getting plenty of opportunities to learn.
-Lindsey, Tongue, and Champ all with nice catches in traffic.
-Sio looked pretty good at DT on the two plays where I spotted him. Both were passing plays where he beat his man and made it into the backfield.
-Robinson with a nice pick in the end zone on a bad throw by Noyer.

    • DLine looks so much bigger and meaner. They are pushing all over the place. Rewatch it and keep an eye out for 76. Sio is a monster. Defense is playing fast for sure.

Would have liked to see some of Vidlak qb play. Noyer and Gebbia both looked like crap.

    • I don’t think it’s worse, defense is putting way more pressure on. I’m definitely not excited by Gebbia or Noyer from the highlight real.

        • They were being pressured and forcing it. It’s really hard to tell much from the highlights. I think people are reading into 4 mins of film a little too much. They’re probably not going to throw it away in a scrimmage when its open competition. This is what you want to see out of a first scrimmage. The defense to win the day. The offense was very vanilla. If the practice reports were also bad and this was the 2nd scrimmage I would be concerned but it’s still very early.

  11. Qbs the staff brought in from hs=gulbrabson and vidlak. Qbs the staff took in after they weren’t wanted anymore by their prior school=gebbia, noyer, Nolan (jc but not wanted out of hs). These guys transferred for a reason. I just hope they let the best qb start and don’t worry about seniority.

Would we have been excited for gebbia start after the civil war had he not gotten hurt? I was calling for chance to play prior to the civil war. Turns out the coaches knew what they had.

    • 3
      1

Noyer didn’t transfer because he wasn’t not wanted.

Daschel pointed out that the poor QB play shouldn’t be a worry at this point. The defense knew what they were running and were jumping routes. Yes I agree it didn’t look great but he said it should only be alarming if the same happened in next scrimmage. They didn’t suddenly all regress.

This team seems like they will go as far as the QB takes them. If they get a guy that can make all the throws consistently, handle pressure, and take care of the ball well I think they have a really high ceiling. Gebbia showed last year that he could win games by managing them so if he’s fully healed he’ll only be better. Hopefully he can take the next step. Noyer won a lot of games and I’m not sure his offense was as talented as this one. It should be interesting but if they can do what Gebbia did last year or better this team should make a bowl game.

    USA Today on The PAC:

    “9. Oregon State (2-5)

Nine of Oregon State’s 12 losses across the past two seasons have come by 14 or fewer points. Experience may help address this issue. The Beavers bring back 19 starters and add a veteran quarterback in Colorado transfer Sam Noyer, though one of the few losses is worrisome: running back Jermar Jefferson ran for 2,938 yards in his three seasons, finishing second in the Pac-12 in rushing in 2020.”

They pick Oregon 1st, USC 2nd. Boo.

  13. Daschel reporting that Hardge is playing well and pushing for playing time. Tibs said he was impressed with Massey. Both could really solidify the depth at safety and improve the competition by pushing Julian and Arnold. Safety is my biggest concern after DL.

          • Yeah, no way champ is out playing those guys physically. Much like Harrison it may be 3-4 games before they see the field much.

            OLB: Riley Sharp not Short

          • Harrison was because of the transfer rules tho. I’ve heard reports of tongue playing but none of Dunmore not even a mention. There was a report of Irish today and Lindsay sounds like he’s having a good canp.

      • There are a few players that are missing due to (minor) injury, including McCartan, Grant, and Quitariano.

Crazy how few seniors we’re starting for how veteran a team this appears to be.

      • Also, Reichner seems a conspicuous absence. Did he just lose too much weight during COVID to be effective? And wasn’t able to gain enough back this last offseason? He’s the lightest non-freshman DL on the roster.

      • I doubt tanner miller would play if eldridge gets hurt. Nous would probably slide over and be replaced by Sorensen or someone else. Miller is only 265. Still don’t like seeing champ in the 2 deep but its still early. KR maybe but still would rather see someone else. Lindsay could have a good season. He was playing well at the end of last season finally.

    • TCU had a guy named Hugh Douglas they converted from RB to a very effective College DE. He plays for the Bills now. Hope the Beavers’ staff can pull off something similar.

  14. Gebbia has a good day today with a 40yd td pass to lindsay.
    Noyer struggled.
Musgrave struggled with 2 drops one that was then intercepted.
Gumbs was good as was AHM.
Reichner, Nolan, and Julian were out.
Gebbia went against 2nd team D while Noyer went against the 1st.

  15. Personally I think this dominant defense is pretty exciting. Smith’s offenses have been solid every year, and on paper this is the most talented team by a fair margin. Seems unlikely that we’re just suddenly bad on offense. Looking forward to our D shocking the conference this year.

  16. With all of the highly touted recruits the Ducks are bringing in, the pressure to perform will be really high. All the more reason that another Beaver victory would be so sweet.

      • 3
        1

Did Chip Kelly develop receivers? Thought they were just used to block/hold downfield.
Jeff Maehl was the only one I remember fron that era and he flamed out pretty fast after college.

  17. What’s up with Keonte Schad? Havent seen any reports on his injury. A week ago it was “something minor” and he was supposed to be right back. Has he practiced at all?
And why is it impossible for OSU to find a DT who can participate in practice and games every year. We seem to only get the broken ones.

      • We’ll end up starting Skelton and using Sio as a backup. Skelton has some experience at the position at leaat, but asking Sio to step in and be our answer is a tall order. Guy hasnt even played any meaningful snaps on either side of the ball, even if he looks the part physically. I’ve read about several offsides from him in camp reports, which makes sense for a guy getting his first reps on the DL. Opposing teams should figure out how to get him to jump pretty easily this year.

  18. Recruiting seems to be going pretty well for Mitch. We have the top players from OR and WA coming in, the all-time leading hitter in the WCL (Bazzana), a one-time top-10 MLB draft prospect (Reed), and several other well-regarded hitters.

Lots of good bats on the way. Hopefully the pitching recruiting keeps pace. It seems a little harder to understand how pitchers will transition from HS to college than hitters due to the continued development of velocity, different pitches.

  19. Not sure if it got mentioned already cause I missed the last thread but Adley got promoted to AAA… think that was the plan all along but he seems to be progressing nicely. Remains to be seen if he will be a superstar but his floor as an every day better than average MLB catcher seems reasonable.

  20. 2
    1

Been awhile since I posted a recruiting recap for the 2022 class. Here’s what I posted last time with some minor revisions. Not much has changed since early July:

    Current verbal commits(11 total):
    QB-Travis Throckmorton
    RB-Damien Martinez
    OL-Luka Vincic
    OL-Jacob Strand
    OL/C-Dylan Lopez
    DT-Quincy Wright
    ILB-Melvin Jordan
    ILB-Kord Shaw
    DB-Carlos Mack
    TE- Jack Velling
    DE-Takari Hickle

So if we’re taking around 20 players in this class, we’re still looking at around 8-9 more players to add. You’d have to think a few will go towards transfers, so I’ll cut that down to 7 more actual true freshmen. The players I’m listing are the positions I think we’ll see being recruited to fill out this class. this isn’t a definitive pecking order since nobody would ever share that type of info outside of the team, so think of it as my best guess on how we’d like to fill out the class. Also, I’ve left off guys that we have higher on the list but have committed elsewhere already or left us out of their Top X lists (Aisea Moa is an exception). So if a David Bailey or Colston Loveland decided to re-consider OSU, they’d automatically jump to the top of the list at their respective positions. I just don’t think those are realistic scenarios. Also, there’s always the potential for a SDSU or Utah State commit to flip late in the process to OSU, but I haevn’t listed those types of guys.

Potential athletes still being recruited by position:
    OL – Sam Yoon
WR – Sam Mason (Official visit Oct 2nd), Juan Wilson, Quincy Burroughs, Xavier Van
DE – Sterling Lane, Mathias Malaki-Donaldson, Isaiah Ward, Kyle Thompson, Hunter Lysholm
OLB- Shakaun Bowser, Harrison Taggart, Aisea Moa, Connor Kelley
CB- Jeramiah Earby, Keionte Scott, Lorenzell Dubose

I’m sure we’ll see more names pop up soon for potential visitors. I’ve been tuned out most of the last month. Will update this as I get more up to speed on things.

      1

All this and no paywall or subscription required…coming soon to other sites…

I’d like to see them get another DT, the number of CB recruits looks good. How about a safety?

      Thanks NiceBeaver.

      • I’ve noticed they’re still kicking the tires on most guys who enter the transfer portal. A recent addition to the portal at Safety was Javon Terry out of North Carolina, and one of our coaches immediately started following him. Doesnt mean we’ll get him, but an indication that transfers will continue to be a point of emphasis in recruiting going forward.

Makes me think the true freshmen players will only make up about half of our recruiting classes going forward. Look at the number of transfers on the 2 deep and you’ll get an idea of how important they are to OSU.

        • I’m not sure “strong’ or “free” safety designations matter in this D anymore(?), but I’d like to see a “strong” safety back there able to cover and punishing people. With form tackles of course. No intent to injure. Alton, Massey, and Thomas look like the biggest DBs on the roster, listed at about 208-211. They’ll likely get bigger by their junior years.

Canzano is saying he’s spoken to several Pac12 coaches who are hoping their schools mandate proof of vaccination or negative Covid test to attend games this season. Gotta think OSU and Oregon are among those teams given who Canzano most frquently talks to.
Will be interesting to see how that would go with unvaccinated season ticket holders who already paid for tix.

If they’re that paranoid about it they should require proof of having had and recovered from C-19. People with natural immunity are the only actual “safe” demographic.

      • 13
        14

You will be unpersoned for saying such things. You are approaching rational scientific medical truth which is no longer allowed.

Natural immunity was dismissed a long time ago in the Covid era.
Therapeutics are also dismissed and disregarded.
The Hippocratic oath of many medical experts/doctors has been ignored and buried.
99.8 % recovery rate from Covid, vast majority of deaths have been in the elderly population, therapeutics have been banned by government officials, children are not at risk
Mandates, authoritarianism and emotional ideologues are indeed leading the sheep now.

If social distancing works, why masks?
        If masks work, why lockdowns?
        If lockdowns work, why vaccines?
If vaccines work, why mask mandates?
If vaccines don’t work, and boosters are required, why vaccine mandates?
If vaccines are safe, why no liability for the pharmaceutical companies producing them?
Vaccines have ingredients that adversely affect the bloodstream and heart/lungs. It is still an experimental drug, not approved, nor tested over any length of time. Adverse effects are already being seen, and yet we continue with the madness. Do your research before taking it.

The natural process of viruses has never been dealt with in such irrational ways, none of which have worked. Fauci is a fraud and grifter leading other frauds and grifters.

          • 7
            12

mRNA changes the body’s DNA, graphene oxide nanoparticles are causing breakdown of blood cells and lead towards latent forms of blood clotting and myocarditis, and lung damage, graphene oxide is an atomic particle metallic ingredient that spreads throughout the body with no way to remove it from the body once it is introduced.

VEARS.gov has data showing a representative list of voluntary reports of adverse effects experience once the vaccine is taken. This is an experimental vaccine different than all other vaccines and now it ids beginning to show that it is not as effective as presented, which leads to booster shots and more of the same ingredients introduced into the body. The mRNA is intended to change the body’s immuno responses rather than create immunity to the virus. Fauci has been studying the viruses and involved in the vaccine for decades. He is not to be trusted, and should be fired, as well as on trial for this whole thing since he signed off on the funding of the gain of function research at the Wuhan lab in the first place.

          • No, they use a “newer” technology as well, but one that has been extensively studied over decades because it’s used for the Ebola vaccine.

          • Pfizer has held patents for mRNA technology since 2002. It has looked at ways to combat coronavirus in dogs and rabbits.

The current goal to end the pandemic is to use gene therapy technologies that will alleviate symptoms and curb deaths, while long-term conventional vaccines are developed.

          • mRNA does not change DNA. It changes the proteins produced by ribosomes and such. It occurs in cytoplasm outside the nucleus.

          • I mean protein synthesis using a retroviral carrier to insert synthetic messenger DNA so that our own cells make dummy virus proteins is insanely complicated so I get the confusion. This tech is new and does have questions that have not been answered but the whole it changes your DNA is not one of them. That said it would be possible to use SIMILIAR retroviral agents to change DNA and we have actually done that now for some rare conditions. Casey eye institute actually cured a kids blindness by replacing his DNA that way.

            Real questions to ask:

            1) What proteins were the supplanted cells making and what do they do? Did we just cut off a supply for an essential protein and possibly caused a epigenetic shift? This is how autoimmune diseases start. Our understanding and mapping of the human protein genome is vastly under realized and we don’t know what most proteins do. The complexity of this project makes the human genome mapping look like coloring a circle inside the lines. The original use for MRNA technology that was considered safe was using cancer cells to make ‘signaling’ molecules for the immune system. Literally making the cancer cells put giant flashing lights on their own faces so the immune system kills them. This is super cool but it also has the added benefit of cancer cells don’t really do anything productive or useful that our body needs so its unlikely we are interrupting anything critical.

            2) We don’t know if there are other locations that the synthesized proteins could bond. We don’t know every receptor in the body or what all of them do. In fact we only really know about the major hormones with any certainty at all. We could accidently synthesize something that bonds to a receptor we are unaware of. Theoretically the virus would do the same thing but the instant loading of these vaccines is way more severe than the ramp up of an infection. Its possible we could cause acute issues by choking up a bunch of receptors that do something important in some process we don’t even know about.

        • 12
          6

I love it when people say to do their own research and then spout off a list of myths and lies about the vaccine. No, ohiobeav, it doesn’t have graphene oxide in it. No it doesn’t change your dna. VAERS is worthless information because anyone can report anything to it. Effectiveness is still in the high 80%. These rants are even more embarrassing when they’re posted on sites connected to a university.

          • 3
            1

There are a lot of people that will never like to be told what to do. There are a lot of people who will ask questions about everything they’re asked to do before they do it. How do you get them to be part of the team despite this? (I’d argue that at least one way is to prove your trustworthiness). There are plenty of leaders and organizations that figure this out. Our public policy leaders haven’t yet.

          • 2
            1

You also can’t prove the graphene claims, etc. The burden of proof falls on the person claiming something that seems highly unlikely. The “proof” of these claims is pretty scant.

          • The problem I see is that any sort of genuine criticism is washed out by absurd claims about the vaccines. For instance, there was a time when people were claiming that these vaccines were putting microchips into people’s bodies. That was entirely stupid, but served as a nice distraction from real questions about the regulatory process.

Both the mRNA and adenovirus therapies have been subjected to the FDA’s checklist for vaccines, but not for gene therapy. It’s important to remember both were originally intended as gene therapy technologies (to combat retroviruses). The vendors (Pfizer, Moderna, and Janssen) were not asked to characterize where, how long, in what cell types, and at what level the spike protein with two amino acid modifications were being applied. At least, these things have not been disclosed to the public yet.

What we do know is that it alleviates symptoms, but unless the technologies purge the body of the virus within 24-48 hours, it does not do a good job of inducing long term memory T-cells. This is the key for reaching herd immunity. The plus side is that these technologies can be altered slightly to modify how the body recognizes how the spike protein interacts with the receptor binding domain; the problem is that it’s a race between technological innovation and virus evolution to get a long-term vaccine approved.

          • Communication about the vaccines has been woeful. Most people don’t know what they actually do. All the effort has been put into telling people they need to get it rather than addressing concerns people have. That’s how you deal with children, not adults.

          • As if. Love to have an adult discussion with non-vaxxers (hesitant/obstinate/anywhere in between). Apparently since I watch CNN, I’ve labeled a sheep.

Wonder how it works on the flip side, are Tucker or Gov. Ron the be all/end all sources of vaccine knowledge? And if I make my decision not to get a vaccine because of their opinions, does that not also make me a sheep?

There’s a Month Python sketch in here somewhere…

WFO, I have evidence supporting each one of my claims. I’ve seen ohiobeav’s statements before. What he’s doing is believing crap he’s seen on social media (typically a guy ranting on video not supporting their statements) and he’s decided to trust the source rather than fact check the ‘information’ the person is sharing. VAERS literally says on their page that they accept all reports from anyone.

          • bend, I’ve decided to be suspicious of every claim made by Fuaci and a coercive government that is now on the line of forced vaccinations for a virus that has a 99.8% recovery rate if any of the numbers are to be trusted.
You choose your sources and I can choose mine…I’m taking the risk if I’m getting the vaccine so leave me alone, my decision is not your concern, or at least it wasn’t pre-covid.

Any thought on herd immunity or therapeutics rather than all of America being sent through a vaccine mandate?

Why the emphasis on the vaccine if therapeutics may be available, cheap and effective?
Why vaccine mandate if so many have had the virus and may now be naturally immune?
Why the vaccine mandate if the vaccine is not effective for longer than 6-8 months?
It isn’t a vaccine but a modified flu shot with booster shots in perpetuity.

Attack me if you like, but are you answering those questions as well?

Cite your source for 99.8% dick head. Your whole claim is based on someone’s viral tweet that was a LIE. Stop spreading shit. Eat it if you want but have the decency to keep it to yourself.

Tweet: “CDC COVID-19 Survival Rates,” said the emoji-filled tweet from Emma Jimenez, a conservative blogger and activist. “Age 0-19 — 99.997%. Age 20-49 — 99.98%. Age 50-69 — 99.5%. Age 70 — 94.6%. Why is a COVID-19 vaccine being pushed out so aggressively? Hmmmm.”

CDC answer: “Survival analysis is highly complex,” Reed said. “CDC does not have the data to calculate survivability for COVID-19. Unclear as to where social media users are getting this information.”

“We don’t have that data, so we don’t know,” added Cindy Prins, an epidemiologist at the University of Florida. “And neither would the person who posted (the tweet).”

Herd Immunity: Experts say Delta variant is in the same range for infectious behavior and as common colds and bad flus. This means the herd immunity threshold is higher than it was before delta and very unlikely to happen through killing off tons of people by letting them get sick or with vaccinations. Its started killing kids. Were one solid mutation from a much more dangerous disease.

Therapeutics are great but only if you can get them dipshit. Hospitals in Florida and Texas are so stacked they can’t even unload ambulances so people who have emergencies are now dyeing without even having Covid. Other cool things, some biologics are being used on covid patients so now people who need them for autoimmune diseases are facing shortages.

            https://www.wfla.com/news/pasco-county/spike-in-covid-hospitalizations-causing-ambulance-shortage-and-long-911-wait-times-in-pasco-county-fire-chief-says/

Putting on a mask is too hard for your freedom though, best just let the weak die of a preventable condition because its best to just let the weak die.

Maybe you can help me cause I can never remember which book of the new testament that Jesus stood in front of the masses and told the starving and weak, “My personal freedom is more important than you cucks! Eat shit and die I can’t be inconvenienced!”

Wise up or stop being evil. Either way shut up when you don’t know wtf you are talking about.

BTW, the only reason mask mandates exist is because there is a bunch of assholes who don’t have the decency to protect their fellow humans.

          5

No solutions once again. The whole super logic list you assembled can be negated by a simple concept, more than one solution to a problem improves probabilities. Social distancing does work by decreasing the odds of exposure. Masks do work by decreasing the odds of exposure. Vaccines work by decreasing viral loads and severity of infections. Masks mandates have to be implemented because vaccination rates are too low and people stopped doing the above steps. Boosters are extremely common in vaccination as they keep the antibody count high in highest risk populations to reduce chance of severe outcomes. No liability for pharmaceutical because they wouldn’t make the vaccines we desperately need to deal with a global pandemic if they were liable for unknown side effects.

4.4 million dead world wide. 640,000 dead in the US. Grow up

        • 5
          1

Again!!! You present no solutions, only tired complaints…..wah wah wah….cry me a river. Doing none of the precautions is not an option — would you propose we do nothing and let the virus run its course??? The US has 330M people, 99.8% survival would be 660,000 deaths. The streets would be filled with bodies left out of the hospitals. Good luck with that!

          • I’ll clarify. With no precautions, we would’ve hit 640-660K deaths much sooner, most likely in the summer of last year. I wonder what the exponential outcome would be today, we would certainly be in the millions of deaths.

          • 2
            1

Well…according to my brother in law-who was a VP of Engineering at Boeing:

“These are are all flu deaths-why hasn’t anyone gotten the flu this last winter” Needless to say, when he came to Bend this summer, we recommended he get a hotel this year.

          • This is a great source. I pulled it up talking to my uncle (Covid denier) and he said, “well that’s just math and numbers, where do they even come from”. I noted that all the sources of data were cited and the methods explained and he said, “I don’t have time to learn all that, it’s too complicated”.

            Huh

          • 1
            1

The other one is Comorbidity and that it’s all just a bunch of hospitals getting COVID money. Go look at the what qualifies as comorbidity and you will find obesity, diabetes, blood pressure (high/low), most mental illnesses, auto immune disorders, cancer (current or past), most major surgeries, anxiety, environmental conditions, transplants, drug abuse, trauma (past or present), blood disorders, and even life style things like working or driving too much. Sure some people may be listed as Covid when they died of a heart attack even if they had a mild case but you also can’t prove that person would have not had a heart attack without Covid. If people are being treated for Covid and died it’s probably because Covid kills them whether in its own right or by putting stress on their bodies. I really can’t fathom why people work so hard to deny that something is a threat, it’s so illogical. We should identify threats and minimize their effects. If we do it to something that wouldn’t be a big deal 10 times and catch 1 Covid then it’s worth it.

          • 1
            1

“Sure some people may be listed as Covid when they died of a heart attack even if they had a mild case but you also can’t prove that person would have not had a heart attack without Covid.” Yes, often the reason why so many people died from heart attacks during COVID is because they continuously keep coughing.

The fact that it is now starting to infect and even kill kids speaks volumes about the evolution of the virus. Starting in December, we saw variants where the spike protein is able to attach itself to the ACE-2 receptor more strongly; hence, higher infectivity. We are at a point where previously infected asymptomatic people who are unvaccinated are starting to get really sick (e.g. children, young adults), as well as some of the vaccinated.

          • Its pretty terrifying. Angry talked about the evolution of H1N1 influenza A (Spanish Flu) and how first year it wasn’t a huge deal then it mutated and killed a ton of people the next season. Covid is doing the same thing and were still having huge populations infected. If we get a mutation that is as infectious as Delta but as deadly as SARS it will be devestating. Covid has an estimated 2.2% world wide mortality, SARS was nearly 10%, MERS is over 30%. All of those are coronaviruses but only one is spread all over the planet.

          • 1
            2

How about this for a solution: live free, no government coerced mandates, no propaganda regarding governing authorities making the entire population “safe” through egotistical bureacratic fiats and corrupt political institutions. How about grifters like Fauci stop flip flopping each time he is on TV and tell the truth rather than spin for political gain? How about letting people decide for themselves and taking the risk based on their own situation instead of coercive mandates?
We have 2.5 million deaths each year and yearly death dropped b y 500,000 last year but we are in the midst of a pandemic?

Nevermind, I’m the dope and you are the smart ones in the room. Let me be the dope without attacking me for being the dope then.

          • I’m all for personal liberty, but it’s not hard to see deaths were above trend last year, and the majority of it wasn’t suicide and overdoses (though those were up, too).

Part of being a Libertarian is the principle of not harming others. With as many elderly, obese, diabetic, etc. high risk citizens as we have, a “strict” Libertarian would do what it takes to ensure they aren’t infecting others.

    • Gray played great his first year especially considering it was at left tackle at least Brandel got to start out on the right side. He’ll only get better with time and the added weight. Kipper needs to step up his game he allows way too much pressure even when he doesn’t get beat. He got worked last year by Washingtons pass rusher. He has all the potential hopefully he’s working hard to make his own run at the nfl.

  22. It’s strange Daschel had his day 9 practice report up yesterday and edge has theirs up today. Edge has been putting theirs up real late but this one says its practice 9 on Tuesday. Not sure if they have the practice number or day wrong. I would be pretty bummed to be paying for this service tho for as late as they’ve been at putting it up.

  23. So now Smith is saying Schad will be out at least a couple more weeks and likely will miss the start of the season.
Kicking the can down the road. Wonder if we’ll ever see him play for OSU?

    • I kinda wonder if its a strategy sometimes. All football players tend to be some level of dinged up by senior year. Maybe they let him take a year to heal and do a medical hardship? Maybe they red shirt him and he only plays in 4 games? Do both and he’s well on his way to a PHD! Gives them time to learn the system and get in good condition. Strategy could really pay off for guys like 5th year sophomore Addison Gumbs or 7th(?) year Senior Jeremy Riechner. If they can put together a good season and make it to the NFL now that they are healthy its a win for the beavs and the player.

Id still prefer to have another dude in rotation but the off season gains and Sio looking natural at DT has me less nervous.

          • 1
            1

Seems like when I hear “it’s minor and we’re taking precautions” it really means it’s fairly serious and decent time will be missed. Grant has been out with a small leg injury since the 1st or 2nd practice.

          • It’s of no real benefit to say anything else. If teams don’t know who to prepare for it just adds complications. Could be interesting if NIL forces more transparency like betting and fantasy has in the nfl

        • NFL also doesn’t want dudes who underperform in their last year due to lack of knowledge of the system and being dinged up.

Best shot of making the league is having a strong year.

  24. Anyone know anything about Isaiah Be well RB for the beavers. He had some impressive recruiting highlights and was thought to be the next solid RB but not even listed in the four deep depth chart. He’s still a FR, but I thought he might see lots of PT this year?

OT, just an attempt to put a smile on your face:

Nick Saban, when told about Oregon having 100 different uniform combinations.
“ We have two. Red jerseys at home. White jerseys away. Our main concern around here is who is wearing them. “

    • A 2020 Husky 3* CB from CA left the program for “personal reasons.” He had an offer from Oregon State. Wonder if he might be pursued before next season. Maybe he’ll stay in CA(?).

  26. Hey nicebeav just curious if you have any pulse on the in state 2023 and 2024 guys? I see the state has some really highly ranked players and it would be great if OSU was able to continue to keep in state talent and also out of Oregon’s hands. I understand it’s still very early tho.

    • 2
      1

I havent looked ahead to 2023 much, other than current offers OSU has out there. You can be sure the top players in state will have Nemec slobbering all over them and steering them towards oregon. The rest will get an “atta boy” pat on the head when they get offered by other schools.

    • Oops, get with the program Scott. If you are going to get caught cheating pay off the right people ahead of time or don’t get caught.

    • Buwahahahahaha!

“Meanwhile, everyone is going to lawyer up because there’s a $20 million buyout potentially hanging in the balance if Frost has a fourth consecutive poor season. Given that those buyout numbers can either go to zero or be negotiated down significantly if NCAA violations are pinned on a coach, it’s not unfair to wonder whether Nebraska is perfectly happy with this turn of events.

Holding secret workouts during a pandemic doesn’t necessarily make Frost a bad guy. But it does make him a dumb guy working in a nonsensical system that relies on coaches taking the NCAA’s rules seriously when there’s no counterbalancing force like a players’ association to ensure that they do.”

      https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/college/columnist/dan-wolken/2021/08/18/nebraska-football-mess-college-athletes-need-union/8185725002/

      • “Everything we did through COVID was in the best interest and health of our players in mind and everything we did was approved by athletic department administration and campus administration,” Frost said.
Yup, shift the blame……..Frost has a future in politics!

  27. Okay guys, back home. Sorry someone got locked out…went ahead and approved that just now, so you should be able to post what you want.

        • 1
          2

Nothing much really. Dunmore had a touchdown in practice today which was good to see. Questions on if Schad will ever suit up now that his minor injury has him off the field. Scott Frost is under investigation for cheating. Baseball commitments are definitely worth looking at, we got the top Washington and Oregon players, per perfect game, and their numbers are bonkers. Theres like 40 comments about vaccination shit, I think half are mine calling people idiots.

Glad you had a good trip! I miss a good road trip but the body can’t handle them anymore.

          • Don’t forget Bazanna. Everyone is sleeping on him because he’s Australian, but being the all-time leading hitter in the WCL is a big deal. He’s basically already proven himself against college-level pitching and hasn’t had an AB yet as a Beav.

          • Totally missed that! I saw him play a few weeks ago and he looked really good. Really confident at the plate, good eye.

Guess it wasn’t a few weeks ago, was in late June.

        • -Nice plans to set up another AB pick’em when CBS is ready
-Colletto picked up another tip related interception and, NEW NEWS: ran in a TD today from 10 yds out.
-Saban responded to mention of the number of uniforms at Oregon, said, “We have two. Red jerseys at home. White jerseys away. Our main concern around here is who is wearing them. “

Welcome home, weeds get out of hand while you were gone?

          • Wonder how the spread is handled with games that have a forfeit? Do you automatically get the W if you choose the team that gets credited with the W, regardless of spread? Guess we’ll find out soon

  28. So I watched some highlights of Colorado’s games last year to c what Noyer looks like. He has a strong arm and throws a very catchable ball. Granted they’re highlights but was very accurate on a lot of his throws. On 2 of his interceptions he didn’t see the guy in zone defense and threw it right to him like Nolan did last year at Utah. 2 others were amazing 1 handed interceptions by the defense. 1 other was an underthrown and another because he was hit throwing. From what I saw it doesn’t look like he throws picks because he’s forcing it or is inaccurate. Biggest concern with them would be not seeing the guy in zone. He’s a big guy that is pretty mobile and a tough runner that’s hard to bring down for a QB. All in all I feel good about having him on the team. He’s s better pure passer and more mobile than Gebbia but I’m not sure he’s as smart of player as him. I feel pretty good that whoever wins the job will be able to win quite a few games for the Beavs. Assuming the running game can pick up where they left off and the defense has improved some they won’t have to do too much. We need a guy that can take care of the ball and make the defense pay if they load the box on us. I think both can do that for us and should be improved from where they were last year. The offense should be improved this year and at the least stay where they’ve been. Only reason we shouldn’t be improved is missing Jefferson.

  29. RE WSU Coach Rolovich:

“I’m not against vaccinations,” he said, “and I wholeheartedly support those who chose to be vaccinated including our players, staff, coaches.”

However, in the wake of Inslee’s order, the stakes have been raised. According to the governor’s news release: “(I)ndividuals who refuse to get vaccinated will be subject to dismissal.””

So, ASU should have the distraction of Herm Edwards and staff violations during lockdown, UO has two CBs suspended for shooting pellets at homeless people, and WSU has a distraction brewing with their coach. Will other PAC programs benefit? Hopefully, Smith and staff have a clean record and can maintain team focus.

And Colorado’s starting QB has a serious injury that should keep him out.
It’s all lining up for a Rose Bowl run baby!
Too bad we dont have UCLA/Arizona on the schedule instead of USC/Utah

      • USC is overrated again because of a few really good skill players. They still have questions on OL and defense. They’ll be good, but top 10 seems a little excessive.

Utah scares me with Brewer at QB. That’s what Wittingham’s teams have usually missed and now they have a proven QB.

    • I wouldnt go so far as to say we’re leading for Vakalahi.
We did send him an official offer, but he isnt scheduled to visit OSU as of this time. I would consider him a “nice to have if we can get him” type of recruit, but not a high priority since we already have Wright at DT.
If something happens with Wright though, then things will definitly need to pick up

  30. It sounds like Vidlak is making a serious push for the #2 job. He’ll probably wind up losing that battle, but it’s a good sign he’s in the mix. Sounds like Lindsey is finally reaching his potential, too. Hearing lots of good things about him.

Does anyone think this team can have a season this year similar to the fiesta bowl season? I think this team is going to fly under the radar but does have the potential to surprise lots opponents. If the beavers can avoid serious injuries to key positions and the stars perfectly align, I think they have so potential to do just that or is it just wishful thinking? Also, which game is the most critical on the schedule?

    • 2
      1

Yes. In theory, at least, but it’s just that the schedule isn’t lined up great for that. We had easier schedules the past few years and blew those opportunities. Now we have a better team, but a more difficult schedule. OSU really needs to stop playing tough OOC games. Get 3 wins there every year by playing cupcakes.

    • 1
      2

If the stars align perfectly, sure.

No one in the conference looks totally unbeatable. There are good teams, but they all have major question marks. I think this really is a season where both divisions are totally up for grabs. We’re loaded with question marks ourselves, though.

Looking at our schedule 5-6 wins seems about right. 2-1 in OOC play, beat Cal and WSU, then 1 or 2 others in the PAC. Low-end reasonable scenario would be 3 wins.

    • They’ll definitely surprise people, the pundits for sure, and hopefully some PAC coaching staffs.

Most critical game on the schedule could be @ Purdue. Coming out of the blocks quickly and playing clean (penalties) and effective in the first game would be progress for the program, and if they go 3-0, it would be a tremendous confidence-builder which would be a difference maker for league play. The second half of the UI game should provide good practice reps for newer WRs to get them ready for league play and to surprise opponents.

Is there the same on-the-field leadership as the Fiesta Bowl team? That will be interesting to see.

      • No question the most critical game is Purdue; I’m surprised though, that no one here has chimed in with another opinion.

On field leadership? Hard to say, but both Gebbia and Nolan have shown indications of smarts (lean toward Gebbia) and moxie (lean Nolan). One of those two could fill the bill. I’d like to see someone the D side step up but can’t point to who.

        • The thing I miss is “swagger.” Chad Johnson and TJ, that D, all had that swagger. They knew they were the best on the field, and were ready to show it. I don’t see that attitude with this group. They may be confident, but not put your hands behind your head and get patted down when you score a touchdown….swagger.

    Are yall hearing yourselves????

FFS. Same thing at the end of every summer…..

    This is Oregon fucking state.

Once in a blue moon and yall think it’ll happen every August. Until it doesn’t.

    So dumb And predictable.

    • 9
      1

I mean, every football fan has a degree in optimism in August, but I would definitely not say that fans have this degree of optimism every year. Especially not this site’s fans lol.

Personally, I haven’t been this hopeful about the Beavs in August since…maybe 09? Prime Rodgers bros? I can’t remember a year when this site generally has been so positive either.

Smith himself has a demeanor which is totally different than in his last 3 years. For the first time he’s not actively managing expectations and seems happy & excited with his team. Team depth at most positions looks better than I can ever remember. The secondary, which I was pretty worried about, seems to be a strength by all accounts. I think it’s going to come down to QB play and the D-line, but both should be much improved from last year.

  33. The only sure losses I see are USC and Colorado (Beavs suck at elevation). Utah and Washington likely losses, but we should be in those games.

When you smooth it all out, I think 7-5 is the likely outcome. I’d give them a +/- 2 variation where you could have a special season or miss a bowl entirely.

  34. While you were away, Colorado’s starting QB, JT Shrout, had what appears to be a season ending leg injury in a team scrimmage.
So they’re down to 3 freshmen(1 is a walkon) who need to cover their QB spot this year.
Of course OSU hasnt been very good against unproven freshman QBs in the past, so maybe it’s moot

    • 4
      1

I did read that above, but I just don’t like us at elevation vs anyone. We’ll see. If our conditioning looks good, then that could be a win. If CU has bad QB play, this could be one of those 50/50 games that make for a special season.

I know Whiskey is all bent out of shape above because fans do this every year. Well yeah, they’re fans. And also, the team looks legit better this year. We have depth everywhere, a lot of good players, and some highly touted transfers. Very legit reasons to be optimistic this year.

    • I guess it’s possible if NCAA football can find zany, reality TV personalities for coaches and players who are obnoxious about their NIL deals, they might keep fans or even grow. We saw this a bit with those Last Chance U coaches and players. Starts to look too much like WWF at that point for my tastes. I don’t think this is the likely outcome, but I guess it is possible given the state of the average human mind these days.

    • I’ve never seen a Rolovich interview, is he always such an awkward, terrible interview or is it just him obfuscating in this situation given the topic? He looks like a horrible communicator.

  35. 2
    1

August Optimism is a sacred right of all Beaver fans…short-lived though it always seems to be. I’ll see angry’s optimistic 9-3 and raise to 10-2 for good measure. And yes, Beavs shall defeat USC on the road, and win the North…

  36. QB play should be fun to watch. Veteran line and some good pass catchers equals the offense moving down the field a lot.

The QBs – Lots of depth but what is their ceiling? Can they be better than they were last year? If they are, that leads to a good season.
Gebbia – Seemed to have turned a corner vs Oregon but then was injured. He needs to come out hot and stay hot. Beavs were down at halftime in all games he played. Can’t afford off games with the guys behind him who have starting experience. He has the highest ceiling even with just an ok arm. Could’ve at least won one more last year if he started the entire season.
Noyer – A good get to push the QB room forward. He can be the starter but is he at his ceiling? Only started on year. Had three good games and two bad ones last year. Wouldn’t be too much of a drop off from Gebbia.
Nolan – Showed glimpses vs Stanford of what he could be but his game didn’t translate fully from what he did in JC ball.
Vidlak – Got to show off in spring ball. True potential is unknown.
Gulbranson – Hopefully the injury doesn’t affect his arm strength going forward.

Starter – Gebbia. Has the most command of the offense and only lost the job due to injury. Most accurate QB.
Backup – Noyer. For a big guy, he can move when he needs to. If he shows off improved accuracy, he may pass Gebbia. Won’t be too much of a drop off if Gebbia isn’t ready to play the opener or gets hurt again. Maybe they use him instead of Colletto in short yardage. Only 10 pounds less and a better arm.

Nolan and Vidlak would benefit immensely from a year on the bench. More time for Nolan to adapt his game. Now that he’s played, he knows what level he needs to be at if he wants to see the field again. Vidlak, decent spring but it’s best to sit for a while. Go in too early and he’ll get beat up bad.

With the offensive line being one of the best in the conference, there’s no excuse for QBs not moving the offense. They’ll have time to throw to a good WR corp and benefit from the RBs running behind a good line creating shorter 3rd down situations. Bottom line – Talent is there but it’s all between the ears now.

    • I mostly agree but after watching Noyer I definitely think he has the most potential between him and Gebbia. Noyer has all of the physical tools to be a great. He possesses a strong arm and can be very accurate, he’s also pretty mobile. I would say he’s a little faster than colleto but not quite as tough of runner. Probably stick with colleto in short yardage situations IMO.

As far as the Oline goes I agree it should really help the offense namely the RBs by opening up holes. They weren’t nearly as good in pass protection as in the run game tho. Kipper in particular needs to get better. They allowed 4 sacks against WSU but got better as the year went on. If they have continued their improvement and the receivers live up to their potential this offense could be very dangerous.

Ultimately this team will go as far as the QBs can take them. The only reason to think the offense won’t be a lot better is the loss of Jefferson but everywhere else is better and deeper this year.

People are acting like these optimistic predictions are so crazy and laughing. Why? They were within a score in most all of their games breaking in new QBs. They should be improved everywhere aside from RB. They beat the defending north champs and favorites this year. I don’t see any team they can’t compete with.

I think this team could win every game they play. Will they? Of course they probably won’t will probably have a surprise both ways. I think when it’s all said and done that leaves this team around 7-6 or 8-4. I feel like they should start 3-0. Purdue has a lot of question Mark’s including breaking in a new defensive scheme. If they go in undefeated into the Coliseum an upset is possible but not likely. Let’s be honest tho USC is hyped up every season. With a lot of questions in the conference I could see the Beavs winning the north.

Let’s not forget about finally having a solid kicker which could allow smith to kick it for 3 instead of going for it on 4th which could be the difference in a couple of games.

  37. Secondary coach blue Adams:

“ Secondary coach Blue Adams is blunt in assessing what he sees out there.

While Adams says some days are better than others, “for them, it’s never a good day. We’re always pushing those guys,” he said.”

    ….
“ How does Adams quantify production in the secondary? It’s simple.

“For me, it’s probably not accurate, but by the number of picks,” he said. “Because in order to get interceptions, my body has to be in the right spot. … the more (pass breakups) that we have, the more times our body is in the right spot. Now we just have to take the next step and start stepping in front of these balls and create some big plays.” Adams may sound harsh, but his players love him. ”

    Also, Hayes w/a good day:
“ Everett Hayes received several helmet slaps from teammates after booming field goals of 55 and 60 yards through the middle of the goal posts. Both kicks were good by several yards.”

    • From the GT story on Adams:
“…he has let them know that he plans to have a limited number of cornerbacks take the field for games if those players are performing well. There’s no reason to make a change if that’s the case, he said.

“We kind of put those two in and let them roll, and if they’re hot, they’re hot,” Adams said. “I try not to disturb that and try not to take a guy that’s playing really well out just to get another guy some reps. You’ve got to take your reps, and you take them on the grass every day. If you’re not taking them on the practice field, you’re not going to get them in the game.”

  38. Just had a thought on revamping the bowl system after reading about a vague idea for making it less differentiated.

What if bowls bid on teams (or at least conference slots like PAC-12 #2, etc.?) every year instead of getting locked into fixed contracts? This would theoretically increase the value of the bowl games for teams and conferences, as well as giving the bowls themselves a shot at teams that are more relevant to the casual fans in their area they’re trying to draw in. It would also provide the bowl games themselves some power to make the games less stratified because they could make a matchup that’s more regionally interesting, like a Dallas-based bowl game could create a North Texas-Texas matchup that would never happen any other way, but would be really interesting to local fans. More intentional matchup creation should also lead to more interest in the bowl games overall.

    • Except bowls are paid by TV contract $, where the assumption is a cross-regional matchup will bring a bigger audience. Plus locals like out of area fans bringing in tourist $.

  39. Decent preview of Purdue here:
    https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/ncaafb/notre-dame-s-opponents-purdue-s-2020-slide-a-sign-of-worrisome-trends/ar-AANxaUj?ocid=entnewsntp

Key individual matchups will be Gray vs. Karlaftis (all-conference DE) and Wright/Jones vs. Bell (all-conference WR). Should be a good early season test for those guys. Sounds like Purdue’s defense overall is lackluster (they’ll also be missing their starting MLB), so we should be able to put up some points. They have a pass-heavy offense, so perhaps a little less onus on our DL to start the season, and a chance for our suddenly-apparently-very good secondary to show their stuff.

    • @OH
Thanks for the link, here’s the portion I highlighted:
“When clicking, … Brohm’s offense can be dynamic. When a defense has cornerbacks to match those receivers or disciplined linebackers to eat up the open spaces, the offense can be staltering.”

As for the Purdue D, three “co-D coordinators”, all in their first year with the team is noteworthy. Smith/Lindgren should be able to exploit that, especially in Purdue’s first game.

That oddsmakers still have Beavs +7 and 2:1 overall odds seems a testament to the lack of attention given them. As indicated earlier, I think Smith enjoys being “under the radar”

  40. Some college football schedule notes:

    1) Stanford is only team in country to have nothing but P5 opponents on its 12 game schedule;
    2) Stanford (Kansas State in Arlington, Tx) and Oregon (Ohio State) will have “9 am” start times, I think OSU is fortunate to have a “4 pm” start time at Purdue;
    3) ASU will be at UW (11/13) the week before they are @ Oregon State (11/20) – nice.

    • In the few I’ve watched seems like receivers are frequently waiting for the ball(?).

Glad to see the DB aggressiveness, attitude, and “appetite” for competitiveness. I hope they don’t get an undeserved PI rep that follows them and hinders them.

  41. Interesting notes from Coach M’s
-Best experience and depth that we’ve had in his tenure
-Brewer, Fuaga, Sorensen, and Miller are the next in line. Brewer and Sorensen are both playing multiple positions.
-“More than any other position, this one is about heart and brains…best player I ever coached who was All-NFL for a decade was a 2-star recruit.”
-JS has prioritized sleep and recovery to help avoid injuries. Nice to see a coach focusing on “non-traditional” things to give the team a competitive advantage.

    • Not surprised as this was projected for a while . Smith needs to improve on closing on the recruitment and finishing the job on these prospects. We’ve been in the top 5 on a lot of good players but not usually do we actually land them. Although I think he is doing a good job this year and probably will be even better, in order to take the next step we need to be able to land guys like Lane in the future.
