‘News: Court documents show UW, Ore expected to be removed from #Pac12 decisions on future, lending context to legal fight waged by WSU and OSU’

        • I’m assuming these schools fully expected to be shut out while also banking on Pac2 to run to Mtn West right away making it a mute point. Once that didn’t happen, it was move on to plan B and see if they can get GK to end-around the Pac2 and force the issue. I still find it hard to believe these schools, conferences and networks will want to have anything go to discovery. Next few weeks should be interesting.

I’m so glad Beavs/Wazzu decided to take it slow and not run to the MWC, many were advocating for “stall statics” once everyone understood the P-2 has a 2 year grace period to reconstitute the conference and it’s working well so far. I think the end game is some kind of settlement to get them into one of the power leagues. I can’t see a scenario where the traitorous ten want their dirty laundry aired, but who knows there’s been a lot of stupidity from them so far.

    • Talk about a smoking gun. This excerpt is related to just this Summer when Colorado decided to leave:

Colorado became the third school to depart, on July 27, 2023, as chancellor Phil DiStefano sent Kliavkoff the following text message, according to court documents:

“Our Board will vote this afternoon at 3:00 to join the Big 12 Conference. It was not an easy decision and I realize its impact on the other members. If there is a time you are available today, I am happy to call you. Phil.”

DiStefano was subsequently removed from the Pac-12 board, per a letter from Pac-12 general counsel Scott Petersmeyer to Colorado’s senior counsel, Katie Gleeson:

“Under Section CB 2-3 of the Pac-12’s Constitution and Bylaws, Chancellor DiStefano and CU’s representation on the Pac-12’s board of directors automatically ceases effective immediately, and CU no longer has the right to vote on any matter before the Board.”

That’s as clearly stated as anything has been, where the specific conference bylaw “CB 2-3” is cited and the penalty for breaking that bylaw is also stated, by legal representatives of the conference.
Colorado no longer has the right to vote on “ANY” matter.

On a family trip to end out the summer break so wasn’t able to make this game, but the stands are looking pretty empty. We gotta be better for our team.

    • I just realized you’re looking at the remote broadcast tape.

      lol… you’re a moron.

The stands were pretty full, for no students being in town, yet. Stop going off pre-taped promo footage.

    • Try a different cookie cutter, if you don’t like how your play-doh turns out.

Oh… wait… you’re just whining about your feelings again.

    OMG. Studentbeav is NuclearBeav…

Both IPs trace to Bend, both use TDS as their ISP, and both have the same latitude and longitude coordinates (though, I don’t know if these are for Bend, in general, or a specific house, but it appears to mean the latter, which means they’re the same person). Lololol.

I guess Benny’s Safe House got boring.

  3. Sappington with 2 solid 40+ field goals. He should be the kicker just because of that. Hayes would’ve missed one at least.

Kick wasn’t out the end zone tho. I wonder if that was the call or just a weak kick. Mistake tho. Sappington with the tackle too.

    • There is a wind blowing against OSU this quarter. If you noticed his KO also barely made the endzone. His first 2 KO were well deep into Endzone.

  4. At least with what looks like a good kicker now, OSU can at least get points on every drive and not have to take chances on 4th down and miss out on points. Not a TD but at least it scores.

  5. Lindgren shows how much he loves DJ’s arm, disappointing but not unexpected………..sad

Spoils opportunity in the last 2/3 minutes, gives SDSU possible life before half.

  6. Why are we so throw happy today? Thank God our defense came to play. I think what is weird is as a Beaver fan I expected to be up by 24 by now.

  7. Game management so important at the end of the half. Missing out on the opportunity to score and giving the opponent their opportunity can result in a big swing in the score……..and will in conference play.
You don’t have to run every down, but you MUST NOT pass on every down. My 2 cents.

Earlier saw USC’s QB making money on Wendy’s ad and then Coach Prime and son on KFC ad. It’s not about the money, it’s just about the money.

  9. I think DJU could use another year in this offense before declaring for the draft. Unless he makes some drastic improvements this year. He’s missing throws under duress that NFL qb’s typically make.

  10. This is the kind of game that shakes teams back to reality. More work needs to be done, that obvious. Hopefully they get their shit together, players and coaches.

    • Luton was a different player under JS than he was with GA. Credit to him for being coachable and working back from that nasty injury. Proved me and almost everyone else wrong with his last season. Glad he’s still trying to hang in the league as a practice guy, although it may be the end of the road for him this season.

Give DJ some time. Brand new offense. And I’m guessing their not really opening up their playbook either. I look for them to pull away in the second half. Might be guilty of looking ahead to start of conference play.

  12. You’re averaging almost 6.5 yards per carry.

Yeah. Let’s throw it all over the field.

Run the ball, utilize play action

  13. We have weapons. Good to see them going to them when DJ isn’t sharp throwing. I will say he is making good decisions, which is a huge factor.

  14. I will say I’m really happy to see a pass rush. Especially against a dual threat type of guy like this. We’re swallowing these guys up.

  15. Martinez has a shoulder issue, may be out for the game.
SDSU is bringing variety of pressures and DJ isn’t really swing it well enough to adjust. Running game isn’t consistent enough to offset the pass rush.

    Beavs defense is legit though.

  16. Only upside for the offense today is this is probably the best game for Lindgren/Smith to be reminded they shouldn’t fall in love with the pass when they have a good run game.
Can’t get away with this type of game plan when conference play starts.

  17. OSU’s receivers may be shorter but they are quick. More quick hits like that for the offense it what they need. then DJ doest have to throw high to the receiver’s.

  18. Hard to say what our final record will be based on the three inferior opponents we’ve played, but today’s offensive performance does not bode well.

    • Fan is short for fanatic. People going to over react in the moment. To me only stat that matters is the W. Was it pretty? no. Stuff to work on, for sure. OSU for sure didn’t play their best game but is still won by 17. OSU put up almost 500 yards on offense.
Every game is different. Everyone is going to look at the WSU score and this score and assume that OSU is no good.

    • I thought DJ was fine. They just have small receivers who are finesse without the absolute elite speed. Still very fast but they create zero separation on deep balls and he has make perfect throws. One of the deep balls to Bolden was good but he has a small catch radius and couldn’t make the play. It makes DJ look like he’s inaccurate when it’s more so the guys on the outside aren’t game breakers. This is why they need Velling to step up and give the Beavs a big body target over the middle to move the ball consistently through the air. I’d like to see Noga get more balls thrown his way. Not really a coincidence that the only receiver to do damage against coverage downfield was him cause he’s bigger and not quite as finesse. Still like Bolden and Gould but they’re more so second and third options and not guys who will do well against the opposition’s best corners.

    • Thank you for saying that. Bugs me when people simply say JUST RUN THE DAMN BALL. lol Never mind they are stacking the box. Lets run it 3 straight times into an 8-9 man box and gain 4 yards. Then what? lol

  19. 16

Not the cleanest game, but a pretty easy win. Glad to get the turnovers out of the way. Definitely were going to happen, so might as well get them out in this type of game.

    • You are not a “we”. Early in your shtick I thought maybe you were legitimately just a negative fan. But you aren’t even any good at masking your idiocy. I am happy for you that your mom took you on a trip to Bend. It is a fun town and I’m sure it was nice for you to get out of her basement.

    • Exactly. OSU for sure didn’t play their best game yet they still won by 3 scores and put up almost 500 yards of offense. I’ll take that all season if it means they win.

  20. Sounds like Cooper was carted off the field towards end of the game. Anybody seen updates?

Also, Portland State has 91 pts in the 3rd of their game today.
    Scoreboard may get flipped

  21. DJU isn’t polished enough fundamentally to take this team to next level. I think the coaching staff knows that Chiles is that special. That said, this is an extremely delegate situation and a qb change could have a dramatic impact on DJUs confidence and team morale. If DJU doesn’t play well in the first half next week in Pullman, I think they have to consider playing Chiles. High risk high reward. I’d much rather see DJU have a good game and get the W but I believe we’ll see the Chiles era begin before the end of this season. DJU is safe play but he limits this team potential. On another note, today I became a believer in this team’s D line. Legit

      • Mahomes definitely improvises but is extremely fundamentally sound and accurate. DJUs footwork today was not good and he was incredibly inaccurate. I don’t mind interceptions when you’re testing the defense but both his interceptions today were really bad plays. He also struggles to reset his feet and make accurate throws after the pocket shifts. I’d say what I’ve seen from Chiles is more similar to Mahomes. If Chiles gets a chance, he’s going to make mistakes and throw interceptions but he’s also got be dynamic and difficult to defend. My concern with Chiles would be with injury so DJU would need to keep his head up.

        • What is the point of DJU starting if we don’t use his arm for the receiving personnel that we actually have?

Chiles brings a new dimension of this offense in his running ability that makes this offense downright dangerous.

          • 4
            1

DJU runs just fine and he’s big enough that you’re not worried he’ll get injured when he’s 1on1 with a defender. He fills that Colletto wildcat role pretty well, without requiring a substitution either.
Let the RBs grind it out on the ground with DJ helping in short yardage sitiations. Then pick your spots downfield.

          • Yeah but you can’t just run the ball and win. The QB has to complete passes past the sticks and DJU did not do that well today.

Why we are not using the TE’s more is beyond me.

        • Yeah… no. I re-watched the game this morning, and it’s not this.

The timing is still off, but he was pretty good on target, except for one chucker at the beginning to Velling.

He had a lot of people in his face and on his arm. The first INT floated a bit, but Gould was also being shoved in the back at the exact moment he was going to catch the ball. Timing off… still a little high. No defender shoving him, and he’s still running. The second INT was a lazy pass that was supposed to push the D. He lobbed it in there, and the db timed it right.

Not great, by any means. But not worse than game management with some exceptional plays mixed in.

I’d like to see the O-line make better calls on the extra rush.

  22. Didn’t watch the game. But glad to hear them airing out the ball today. Run the ball heavy vs the better competition. Practice passing against the real active cream puffs. Speaking of cream puffs, Sac St beats Stanfurd today

  23. I don’t understand why Lindgren is so pass happy all of a sudden. That is not the strength of this team. We do not have receivers who can reliably beat a press against bigger corners.

      • Those screens are good. Would like to see some crossing routes like sdsu did to us. If they catch the ball in the open field running they could easily break it for a touchdown anytime.

    • He’s forcing the passing game in the last chance game to do so.

We need these plays to be run in real time, so the QB room has tape on it.

We already know we would win the game 56-10, if we just run the ball. But we need to get some work in on forcing plays, instead of just taking an easy W… which it was, anyway.

  24. You know its easy to say we need to run the ball more. It depends on what the defense is doing. Also with DJ struggling a little with accuracy, wouldn’t you now stack the box to stop our running game and have DJ beat you throwing the ball?

Washington State should be +3 at home, I think. Beavs win that one 27-24, I think. That’s my early feel on it. I’ll think about it more. The more WSU blows their load today the less I like them next weekend. Beavs had the opposite. Should have mean reversion upward.

Not exactly a confidence-inspiring game going into conference play. I’m still not sold the D-Line/EDGE rushers have the quickness or explosiveness they’ll need against PAC competition. The defense as a whole lacks speed. Unfortunately, I could see Wazzu carving up the secondary all game like SDSU was in the 4th quarter. It’ll be even more important to establish and maintain a consistent running game to keep the Coug offense on the sideline, which is something the Beavs didn’t really do today. Martinez seemed like he was banged up the whole game. He had a few runs where he had space and instead of accelerating, he slowed down a bit.

Unfortunately, DJ probably isn’t going to be as reliable as many of us hoped. The overthrows and high passes once again highlight how much OSU whiffed not getting a big WR or two from the portal. I’m shocked at how little the TEs as a group are being targeted, especially Terry.

All in all, based on their play so far and OSU’s lack of success in Pullman, I’m not feeling too good about next week. Hoping to be wrong!

I feel like this Wilner article didn’t get enough eyeballs on it because it came out right before the game.
(Also why are Wilner articles free on Seattle Times but paywalled at Mercury News?)
Any, alot of good content related to cpurt documents already submitted by OSU/WSU that really paint GK and the Pac12 conference into a corner with no defense for their past actions vs their recent attmpts to include 12 teams in conference votes.

    https://twitter.com/SeaTimesSports/status/1703092243232415924?t=xJy3uixDiIYov77Q2aEwZQ&s=19

    • I still love this part:

“For the sake of clarity, the University is not delivering a notice of withdrawal from the Conference at this time in contravention of Chapter 2, Section 3 of the Conference bylaws.”

      Comedy gold, right there.

These schools are supposedly running both English and Law schools.

      • For the sake of clarity, I am not littering.

I am simply placing this garbage gently on the ground, instead of placing it in the trach can over there.

With the Beavers lacking high end weapons in the passing game, Aidan Chiles might actually fit the offense better than DJ. I like DJ’s game and don’t think he’s remotely been a problem but AC athletic ability adds a different dimension when they don’t possess great weapons at receiver/TE. With how good the defense is, I definitely think JS should consider it to maximize the team. Not a knock on DJ at all but the classic drop back passing without a QB who can seriously threaten teams with his feet seems like will be an issue when Gould and Bolden are being bullied by bigger DBs down the field.

  29. 8 ranked PAC teams looking like they all ought to be top15. Of course it must be this way…

I think this was a bit of a trap game for Beavs and a lot of guys needed the wake-up call and the close game vibe, even though they were up 2 scores for most of the game.

Hoping DJ has a great week of practice or JS is ready to go with Chiles is Pullman isn’t better for DJ. Wazzu will bring max pressures similar to SDSU so that is a good warmup for the next game anyway.

A win is still a win, and how crazy that we have concerns during such a convincing win. JS is doing miracles with the program.

2 and maybe 3 teams ranked in front of Beavs will lose today so they should be moving up to 13-14 range in polls. Steady climb is good. Let Deion take all of the pressure and attention.

Seeing Colorado pack their stadium and sellout weeks in advance for a stadium much bigger than ours, while ours looked about 75% full, and they had one win last year, is so frustrating.

    • 7
      6

It’s called fair weather fans who chase the shiny things. Deion is a circus act that people and networks can’t resist.
You on the other hand are a troll who panicked over multiple perceived shortcomings with OSU team, coaches, fans, stadium during a methodical dismantling of SDSU for a solid win and 3-0 start.

Go to Eugene or Boulder and try to be satisfied with their glitz. Your act has worn thin and your drama is wearisome.

2 home games, 2 sellouts, school hasn’t started yet… students just beginning to arrive on campus. TV ratings are strong. NIL funds are beginning to flow. We’re ranked coming off 10 win season and 2 out of 3 vs Ducks, undefeated with 7 consecutive wins, solid recruiting class. Top notch game day experience. Beav support is flowing. Pretty good for grass roots (no sugar daddy like Phil). Absolutely nothing to be concerned with or disappointed in… other than our future conference affiliation (which will work itself out better than most expect).

      • I take that back.

You would have been “so frustrated” with the amount of fans in the other stadium in our state named after a Beav.

        Such a whiny weenie.

  31. Shedeur finally threw a pick and CSU was driving, but the numbnut QB threw a pick six and it was returned 80 yards for the TD. 7-0 Buffs. Beavs were sluggish today, but I’ll take a 17-point win rather than Oklahoma States’ shitfest against South Alabama or Cincinnati’s choke for its first loss to Miami Ohio in 16 years. Go Big 12!

  32. I got to say Prime has unlocked the code to the cash cow with this coaching job. I’m seeing little blurbs on face book about him being responsible for 1.3 million dollars in his signature sun glass sales after tweeting about the Norvell “disrespect”. For sure he has a clause in that contract for a sales cut. It’s nauseating but also genius at the same time.

  33. Watch CU is going to somehow pull this out because CSU can’t get out of their own way. They probably have a 200-tall-yard advantage by now but a red zone fumble and blocked FG so far this quarter.

  34. 2
    1

Ram’s play an idiotic prevent with no pressure on Shaedure and let the Buffs go 98 yards in about a minute. All tied at 28 with about 30 seconds to go.

    • Main thing for me was Colorado State punted on 4th and 2 with the chance to possibly end it before that drive I was thinking there is absolute zero chance in hell Jonathan Smith would have punted there. Angry Beavs would have been losing it when he did that, too lol.

      • Exactly, you go conservative and punt, then double down and ply prevent for 98 yards as well. They never rushed more than 4 on that drive and Sanders just moved around and picked them apart.
CSU had a great look at it in regulation. I doubt they can win in OT.

    • I remember back in the day Richard seigler winning the toss and he said we’re gonna kick it and the refs did not give him a mulligan. Beavs kicked off both halves

    • “Overtime begins with a coin toss to determine which team starts with the ball in overtime, with the visiting team calling the toss. The winner of the coin toss can either play offense or defense to start, or can opt to choose which side of the field it wants to start. There is no deferral. The team that loses the toss has to make the remaining decision, and then has the first pick to start the second overtime. The team that won the first coin toss will pick for any even-numbered overtime periods, and the team that lost the coin toss will make the decision in every odd-numbered period.”

      • CU won the toss and elected to choose which endzone (instead of if they were going to play offense or defense first). CSU then chose to play defense first.

CSU had the first choice in the 2nd overtime, and again chose to play defense first.

  35. 2

Observation: There are 4 teams in top 25 with 1 loss, 3 of them are SEC teams-Alabama, LSU and now Tennessee. Bama lost on their home field, LSU got boatraced and Tennessee lost to a Florida team that struggled mightily against an undermanned Utah.

SEC shouldn’t get into the playoffs this year since they are so bad. Georgia and Alabama both look beatable without decent qbs.

  36. To all who attended the meeting of the minds on the new side during the game today… great time!
To the rest who missed it don’t worry, we solved all the most pressing Beaver questions like how early is too early to start tailgating, how to order food/beer at the new dispensing system at Reser, did that little girl lose her foot when her shoelace got stuck in the new escalator, and what are we going to write on The Coug’s bathroom walls next week?

Not sure how it looked on TV, but the attendance looked pretty good for a pre-student game in sunny weather against a MW team, all when many people are still getting in fair-weather projects and “family trips” in.
Also, there’s a LOT more to look at and do on the new side that attracts fans away from their seats, plus the lines at the ridiculous food vendors contributes.
I think once we fans get used to all the new shit we will see more actual butts in seats on tv.

  37. After chastising CSU’s head coach, USAToday has this blurb:

“Oregon State Beavers Big Man Touchdown

Big man touchdowns are always going to earn high marks here, and Oregon State left tackle Joshua Gray need not attend another day of class after the play he made against San Diego State.

Already up 6-0 in the second quarter, the Beavers had a first-and-goal from the 3-yard line. Quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei dropped back, rolled to his right, and heaved a backward pass to Gray, who was sitting wide open with a convoy of blockers ahead of him.

But he didn’t need those blockers as he strolled to the end zone for the unconventional rushing touchdown.

    Big Man touchdown: Ph.D.”

  38. Re-watched the Beavs vs SD. SD’s defense is decent. I counted a number of DJU throws where he was being taken down therefore throw was not on point. DJU also had a couple bad throws but that’s not unusual for a QB in a game. But the other thing I noticed is we still lack that tall fast catch anything thrown near him receiver. CSU almost beat CU because they have Horton who is that type of #1 receiver. SD did stack the box after giving up some big runs to Martinez. Not the offenses best game, probably looking past SD. But feel better about the game on the second watch with emotion being gone.
Our defense looked pretty damn good overall. That QB was a legitimate threat and they managed their offense well.

    • DJ has been throwing high in all three of his games. I don’t know if it’s the receiver’s size or his accuracy. It’s thrown off the timing in the short passing game at times. Impressed by his arm strength, but not impressed by his accuracy or decision-making at times. No doubt, the Beavs need a good 6’3″ WR sooner than later.

      • I still wonder if the difference between the practice field and crowned stadium fields makes a difference, given his arm strength.

A normal human with a normal arm will see those passes drop, as they head for the boundaries.

        • Not an excuse, because others with cannons can figure it out.

But he likely has to alter his release by moving more weight to the front.

His timing to the WRs on screens is deadly, given it basically turns the play into a PR/KR situation, with Gould and Bolden. I wonder how good his move to first is… and if he might want to play closer for a year.

  39. 2

Post-game Sundry Notes (saw game in person). For pov below, I was four rows behind student section on Beavers side, just off center of 50 yard line. First half of game just enjoyed; second half attempted to look more closely during series at different groups.

    Defense:

Concur with others re: Defense. DL unit had a very good game over all, would like to see this through the rest of season — in no order, Rawls, Hodgins, Kelze Howard (congratulations on immediately being in unit packages) deserve special mention. Rest of defense: McCartan, Chatfield Jr., Mascarenas-Arnold, Akili Arnold, Oladolpo came to mind as standouts.

    Offense:

I felt given how SDSU presented, running backs did fine. There was one passing play where opponent (#55) either came in as an untouched, additional pass rusher, or someone missed their blocking assignment entirely; OL/DJU will need to be prepared for when that situation comes up in future games.

There was pass or two to WR that weren’t perfect, could’ve been caught. There was one 3rd down play where WR was on out route and caught pass but reception was woefully short of 1st down.

Rapport needs to be developed w/ a WR or two. Even though TE not targeted a lot, DJU seems more comfortable throwing to them.

    Special Teams:

Did ok. Coverage in general was good. I don’t understand the decision making between allowing the ball to bounce versus opting to catch.

    Coaching:

One area that may need improvement on defense is substitution packaging; I noticed we frequently substituted defensive line between 1st & 2nd down, and seemed unhurried– we got caught during several SDSU series when they decided to go up tempo.

As a fan, how was my experience?

Overall, very good! My last visit was prior to rebuild. The process of getting to/from stadium bearing in mind ongoing construction, was smooth. Might help if there was a sign or two more to orient ppl which routes are unobstructed? We followed a small stream of people, but ended up having to negotiate part of the fenced construction zone.

Stadium was close to near capacity.

Entry staff were courteous & helpful. Law enforcement was visibly present but unobtrusive.

In stadium, sound carries better. Standing area w/ balcony rails on Visitors side had fans present for most of the game. Sound system was good, some boom in the chest w/o being overwhelming. Illuminated banner that ribboned around stadium showing scores elsewhere as well as current on field game stats was nice. Large screen made it easy to follow game when view was not ideal on field, esp. for older attendees.

Programming between plays overall was entertaining. Standouts were Air Guitar Cam & Sing Along.

Concessions experience was pleasant; lines & waiting for order were not long. Couldn’t locate condiments however to put on afterward.

Ppl in our section were engaged, stood up, did all the team chants etc. In fairness to us attending on Home side, it was hot that afternoon and in the sun, so energy was lower later in the game.

Definitely will consider going again, with a change or two in itinerary to take more advantage of pregame events.

One last point to highlight for community here:

Someone brought a large, “PAC-2” sign that was featured on the large screen; it received cheers & applause.

Sit on the new side next time and report back how your food buying experience was.
Some of the booths have those new automated screens where you order and pay for everything yourself, but then get sent to limbo where you wander aimlessly waiting for them to scream your number. It’s terrible. Deaf group behind me was not impressed also. They asked how difficult it would be to just put up a “now serving” display anywhere, I agreed.
However, the water/Coors light booths are a great idea that help flow, especially once the octogenarian fans that sit in that area learn how to use a credit card terminal all by their little wrinkly selves.
Reports say the Schmizz booth was relatively quick though so that’s good.
Does anyone have any inside info on the stadium’s process of having volunteer charity groups run the booths in exchange for keeping some of the profits? Is this how it really works? I ask because on the surface it seems very generous, but if it’s true then it explains why the service is always insanely slow and seriously disorganized. Just curious.

        • The concessions are a common thing.

I’ve had to work the Mo for a couple different groups, with different experiences on how “leadership” managed the booth.

I worked one with a bunch of moms who had never worked retail, let alone counter service, and the leader simply would not listen to best practices. So yes, it can be rough.

        • One of our favorite beer booths last year was right inside gate A, run by moms for a high school softball team, by the end of the season we were like old friends but damn if I can remember what school it was

        • “…Deaf group behind me was not impressed also. They asked how difficult it would be to just put up a “now serving” display anywhere, I agreed.”

-100- absolutely & would be easy for them to add. It was difficult to hear order numbers, not that concessions staff were not loud… it simply is loud in general =\

  40. While waiting for an analysis from Bill, I noticed the time of possession showed the Beavs D was on the field for over 33 minutes. Seems Bray and his boys handled it well in the warm conditions.

  41. Good morning Beavo’s! A question. As we get ready to enter the meat grinder of the pac-12 schedule, what are the tie breaker rules? I would not be surprised if the top 2 or 3 teams each have two conference losses. It’s kind of a bummer as the pac is arguably the best and deepest conference in cfb, we might not get a conference champ into the playoffs.

    • Head-to-head, first. If a three-way or more tie occurs, the h-t-h will hopefully drop some teams.

I believe the second tie-break is simply who is ranked higher in the CFP rankings.

      • Thanks Jack! The rankings deal is a bummer since sometimes a team can be ranked lower than a team they beat, with all other things being equal.

What an oddity of a game. Most offensive yards this year, the defense on fire and SDSU didn’t get within one score in the second half but yet felt very unfulfilling. Expectations are high as they should be. Watching other teams just dominate others is frustrating.

Through the first half, I thought, DJU is struggling but he’s not making bad misses where SDSU had a chance to pick off the throws. But then the interceptions happened and they should not have. Both throws were not good. First ball was high, the guy was open so it was the right read. Second ball he had the coverage he wanted but the throw was way off. The wind was in his face and he floated the ball and it hung up there. Had he put some heat on the ball and led the WR, he would have gotten a long completion or at least an incompletion. WR on the other side was more open if he looked.

On defense, the Arnold step brothers were the stars. Easton was flying all over the place making plays and Akili picked a pass, had a sack, returned a kick. Great to see a consistent pass rush. Bray called a fairly aggressive game that did bite him a couple times. Underneath crossing routes and RB screens are plays that the defense seems to give the most yards to. But when the defense is in the redzone, that stuff doesn’t work against them. It’s a pretty good bend but don’t break defense.

    Other random thoughts and observations
    – McCoy got a lot of playing time and was in all of the second half. Not sure if Ivy was hurt but it didn’t look like it. He must be playing really well for the coaches to trust a true freshman in critical moments
    – DJU makes a lot of checks at the line. Not all worked so I wonder how much is on him and how much credit the defense deserved.
    – Seems like the coaches want to spread out the touches. Lots of guys rotating in the game especially at WR.
    – Fat guy touchdown was great.
    – No studentbeaver sign at the game. Always disappointed
    – Stadium still isn’t as loud as it could be. I think it’s partly due to the lead up to the game saying that SDSU had no shot.
    – Beavs might consider selling cheap tickets for the student overflow section for the games when school is not in session. It was empty.
    – Beaver Street is still very popular
    – Tongue’s injury is going to hurt. He made an immediate impact on defense and would have been a great matchup vs WSU as a very speedy LB.

Lots to clean up but it’s good to see when one part of the team is struggling, the other half picks up the slack. Good teams have that ability. A very stiff test in WSU upcoming. They’ll have a lot of motivation after last year’s basically no show in Corvallis.

  43. ESPN and CFN are helping to keep Beavers humble. CFN moved them from #20 to #23 and ESPN has them at #20.

My impression of DJU is that at some point in his career, took a really big hit. His film at Clemson and his 3 games so far, if he is rushed, loses concentration, looks rattled and throws a not so great pass. With 6 seconds none are better.

Just based on how they’ve actually played so far this season, WSU should be up there around 8-10 with UW and UO. Could be a tough one in Pullman next weekend.

        • Yeah agree. I kind of got that feeling like 2000 when we lost to the Huskies on the missed FG. Maybe because I just read an article about that game. Wazzu will be a tough game. I don’t think anyone will go undefeated in conference play. Will be lots of fun to watch the next couple months.

Watched all three of the WSU games and in comparison to the Beavs they’ve arguably faced a tougher non-conference schedule.

Northern Colorado is bad, UC Davis will be a lot better. But Wisc and CSU don’t look like really bad teams, they are both in different rebuild phases and they didn’t play like hot garbage against WSU they just got outplayed by the Cougs (who have played really well in all 3 games).

Ward is 78/108 72% 986 Yd 9TD/0INT, those are Heisman candidate numbers right up there with Penix and Sanders, much more efficient than DJU.

I’m confident in JS and the Beavs and know they want to get a win in Pullman that they haven’t been able to yet, but I’m not overlooking them by any stretch, and I think it will be a competitive game unless WSU can’t stop the run or OSU can’t stop the pass/scramble.

Keep playing efficient defense and establish the run game, if they stack the box like SDSU they’ll need to be a lot better than they were on Saturday to get the win. Don’t want to get into a pass heavy shootout at all.

Thought Atticus had a nice quiet day at the office, 48 yarder and 44 yarder….good to see. Hopefully he keeps it up and JS will have another option to get FGs. Seems like the last couple of road games against WSU were lost early in the game deep into WSU territory going for it on 4th down.

I have heard that sometimes talent will rise a little to superior talent and vice versa. Is it possible the Beavs let down after playing Cal Davis? Most of the starters only played one half. There seemed to be something missing. The Oline is supposed to be similar to last year. Maybe San Diego St has a tougher DLine than Oregon.
The past few years we took shots down field with an inaccurate passer, 2nd and 10. Unless we can get a 6′ 5″ TE on a downfield route, we might not want to waste that down on diminutive wrs.

Beavs early 2 pt favorite. Ucks are favored by 19.5.

On another subject that dude for CSU that cheap shotted Travis Hunter should sit out as long as Hunter is out. He should have been ejected along with HC. That’ll nip that crap in the bud. That was a pretty inexpensive trade for CSU. Took one of their best player out of the game for a 15 yarder.

Seriously? He was out of bounds with the play being over when the guy steps into him. Yeah it wasn’t a vicious take your head off hit but they are saying he will be for a couple weeks. The point I’m trying make is that teams need to be punished for flagrant “cheap shots”, which that was, that take out opposing players. You might feel different if the player was say, Damien Martinez who we would lose for a couple games.

It wasn’t a trying to damage you kind of play. It was a football play close to the line.

Still haven’t heard what penalty intentionally trying to poke an eye out deserves

was NOT a bang bang play. He hit him while he was near the sideline and play was over. He basically threw himself into the guy. It was a cheap shot.

  47. Jets made a great comeback today.

I may have to be a convert, if they keep doing this.

And what’s up with Washington? They’re also cold, then hot.

  48. Beav OL dominating the PFF rankings. 6 of the top 21 OL in the conference are Beavers. Tanner Miller currently ranked #2 in the conference.

Looks like there’s still a bunch of tickets left for the Utah game. It will be pretty disrespectful to the team if the place isn’t packed to the brim.

    Buy some tickets, you degenerates!!!

My realistic updated take on how we end up this year after this week, especially if we can’t get DJU to help us out:

Likely Losses to: Wazzu, Utah, UW, Oregon

Possible Losses: Colorado? (away game at elevation can be weird, see 2021 season), UCLA

Likely Wins: Cal, Arizona, Stanford, Cal

  51. Was just reading something funny about the AP top 25.
Haven’t checked if it’s accurate, but apparently top 25 is made up of 21 undefeated teams, and 4 1-loss SEC teams.

Too funny that SEC teams don’t take a hit for early season losses but every other conference does.

    • Even funnier that it isn’t obvious in many lists what teams records are, which trends toward name recognition rather than merit.
Lot of 3-0 teams still, but conference play will begin to whittle away at those.

    • sec always gets the benefit of the doubt. i’m curious to see if the pac gets the same respect now that conference play is starting; teams will start beating each other, will they get that same benefit. my guess is the narrative will shift to ‘the pac conference isn’t as strong as experts thought,’ or these are bad losses because they came at the end of the season instead of the beginning of the season, or sec is strong so it’s understandable they lose in league, blah blah blah

  52. Too bad we didnt get ASU on the schedule this season instead of Utah. Devils are already terrible, but now they’re down to their 4th string QB for the mext several weeks.

    • USC and UCLA got the breaks in the schedule this year. Both get to play all the non ranked teams, Cal, Arizona, ASU and Stanford. So they will be near the top of the conf because of that.

Obviously, everyone’s schedule got much tougher when WSU and Colorado scored upsets
