  1. Michael Avenatti @MichaelAvenatti

Bol Bol and his handlers also received large sums from Nike. The receipts are clear as day. A lot of people at Nike will have to account for their criminal conduct, starting with Carlton DeBose & moving higher up. The diversion charade they orchestrated against me will be exposed

  2. WBB, 6pm Friday on ESPN; Beavs are underdogs by any definition…and for the first time in a long time.

One talking head says, “defensively, the Beavers haven’t been sharp. It raises questions about how effective they’ll be in trying to topple No. 1 seed Louisville, which beat Oregon State in the Elite Eight last season.” Unsaid there is the inconsistent 3pt shooting lately. Oh, and that loss last year saw a 7 pt halftime deficit balloon to a 33pt loss at the end, due in part to giving up 24pts onTO’s!

And while “it’s all about how we play” is a good approach, Louisville may have some distractions. The beat writer for the Chatanooga paper tweeted: “According to a source, Louisville is prepared to lose women’s basketball coach Jeff Walz to Tennessee at the end of the season. They’ve also just lost their long time assistant to the HC job at Eastern Kentucky.

But, really, it is all about how the Beavs play. Turnovers, lack of 3pt shooting, weakness at the post; all need to improve. Will Katie have a breakout game? Will Destiny score AND rack up some assists? Can Pivec keep up her terrific pace? How about Taya and/or Aleah? 25+minutes for Washington?
So many things have to come together.

Hard not to pick against the Beav gals in this one………but I won’t do that.

  3. Getting rid of the bronze trim would be nice.
A lot of the old looks would be great to bring back… just not with the “angry beaver”/sonic the hedge-beaver. Leave that one to die.

    • This was in the article I posted in the previous thread…

Recent trends and the largely positive reception for last year’s throwback uniforms received from fans would suggest Oregon State will simplify its overall look as the football team moves to the cleaner Vapor Untouchable template. And while it appears the font will remain, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Beavers drop metallic bronze from their color scheme.

  4. Beavs need to win the opening game here if they want to win the series vs uw.

It’s really all about the offense right now.

Bullpen seems a bit tired with the innings they need to cover with Abel out.

    • I was in Lexington last year, I bet we lose by 20+

The foot speed of Louisville was impressive and nothing I’ve seen year thinks that will change. Only thing that keep this close is if Louisville doesn’t shoot well or turns the ball over and can’t set up their press defenses. We had no answers for the press last year.

    • I was. I got a prompt from some outfit named Jetpack that wanted me to click on some link that would allow my IP address to work. I didn’t do so for reasons as readily conceived as expressed. This time and didn’t get that prompt and was able to log on.

I’ve also been asked to proved I’m not a robot recently, by way of solving simple math addition problems. What’s up with that?

      • They’re built in WordPress security features that aren’t working properly.
Not sure if I should disable them, though, because we’ll get a lot of bots/spam. The configuration for this thing is lacking. Usually, from reports I’ve gotten, if you just x out and try again it lets you in. My understanding is it has to do with IP addresses being blocked. Are you roaming on a phone when this happens? Might be picking up a bad IP as you move around on the cellular.

        • I don’t use a phone to log in; just my desk top or laptop. Indeed, when I just tried again I got right through to the log in prompt without problem. OOB has discussed this earlier, I understand.

          • Yeah, I mentioned JetPack in a post on the last thread (3-24 2:45pm). No one responded.

When JetPack has prevented me from logging in it has only happened when I was at home with the router/IP service I’ve used for years.

The “x out and try again” procedure has been successful about 50% of the time.

  5. also, of late, when I open a dialogue window, like this one, I get a “Not Secure” notice from my protective software. I don’t get that warning when I”m just scanning and the service otherwise tells me this site is “secure.”

    • I’m not feeling too confident about this weekend. But I’m glad Joe DeMers has gone to the pros. And our pitching has been pretty good. So I haven’t given up hope.

If we have a bunch more strikeouts looking, I think Casey is gonna jump out of the stands and kick everybody’s asses.

  6. WBB- wow, you hold the opponent scoreless for 10 minutes and can only score 4 points yourself and now you’re down 11. Still some time left, but I think that stretch was the back breaker.

  7. Doing okay at the plate but missing some opportunities. Should be up 3 or 4 to zip but instead it’s 1-0 after 3 and a half

    • I thought it was odd that the announcers were fawning over Meggs in the early innings and babbling about the success of the UW program, but then I think I heard one of them played baseball at Washington.

  8. Reluctant to give credit to Lindsay Schnell, but she is credited with telling Rueck that he recruited nice girls who can shoot 3s. Late season 2019, they are nice girls who can’t.

      • Agree, score one for A@a.

Four years in a row making the sweet 16 or better is an accomplishment even with no injury problems. Kat Tudor may not be the very best offensive player, but she’s close, and she brings Pivec like intensity and energy like no one else on the squad.

I’ll trust Rueck’s judgement over Schnell and most writers and know it all fans. Since I don’t know the inner workings and team dynamics, I’ll trust his decision to give Katie so many minutes eventhough I don’t understand it.

        • It does say something that we are disappointed with the season ending in the Sweet 16.
Pivec was the only one willing to take shots. Even Slocum seemed intimidated. Katie M was better as a Frosh/ Soph. She needed to make up for the O that they lost with Tudor going out, but she never did. Ultimately it was the same old bugaboo, pressure D that did them in. Slocum and Goodman getting the ball stolen at half court by a single defender may represent the glass ceiling Angry is referring to.

      • Nothing makes me think next year shouldn’t be better…
Loss of jo and ktmac, no loss
Gain Aquino, Thropay, Kat and McDonald all American Brown

        • Don’t forget Jelena Milosovic, 6’8-9″ post player coming in. She’s much more polished with her skills compared to Grymek. JM has great hands, runs the court well and is an exceptional passer. I didn’t see enough of her video to know how good she is offensively, but she looked much more coordinated and more smooth than Grymek. I think this team will be much improved next year with the subtraction and addition of the new players plus this year has been a challenge for Slocum figuring out her role in the system. All in all, 26-8 and the Sweet 16 was a pretty good outcome for this team.

          • Good thoughts, but would she fit Schnell’s “nice girl” image. LOL

Sticks in my craw that anyone would credit Schnell with that observation. Hasn’t everyone seen that aspect of Rueck’s recruiting all along?

  9. Missed most of the baseball game. I see Bailey is back to having .200 hitters in the top of the lineup. WTF. He is one dense fucking guy. I’m a Billy Bean stats guy myself, and these guys are not being put in the best place to succeed.

  10. Pretty clear in last night’s crappy win that the Beavs have a leadership void.

all but Adley and Mendazona are lost at the plate.

But they do now get to face some lower level pitching the rest of the weekend. UW hasn’t played well vs good teams.

    • That leadership void is a mystery to me. With the way Adley handles pitchers I figured it would be natural for him to be one to keep others focused. There are a few others who have the experience to join him in that effort. Guys like Taylor and Malone. Maybe they’re hesitant because of their own performance so far.

Now Philip doesn’t have the history with the team, and he has his own problems, so even though his position and everyday status would make him a logical ally, I don’t see that happening. At least not right away.

BTW……wasn’t it nice to see TWO DP’s last night? (lookin’ at you, Mendazona)

  11. Notable from today’s lineup:
    Philip still leading off
    McGarry batting 2nd

    Malone cleanup
    Ober #6
    Mendazona #7
Jake Harvey playing 2nd, batting #8

  12. I hope we got some offense left in the tank. We’re gonna need a couple more runs

Yesterday we had 5 hits through 4 innings and none the rest of the way

    • Yes, overall better plate discipline.
Any thoughts on the McGarry move? Gets the start, comes up, K’s, is replaced. Bailey going hard core? Saw something enlightening? Hmmm.

      • I mean that’s rough for McGarry but he’s fallen down hard.

Bailey is telling the team he means business. How the guys respond is anyone’s guess. The team had high expectations of themselves.

They won’t get any breaks after the uw series. 5 games next week. Everyone will need to contribute.

  13. Optimistic outlook of the women’s team: Graduating senior contributions won’t be hard to replace. Gain three 5 star bigs who are athletic and get Tudor back. Will have the firepower to play with the top teams. Bench players are very experienced.

Pessimistic outlook: Not much player development throughout the year. No player stepped up in Tudor’s absence. Seemed like a few players took a step backward. No freshman had much impact. Too many games playing down to the opponent.

Rueck will have his most talented team next year so the expectations will be high.

  14. I’m glad Tinkle hasn’t thought of scheduling Purdue or Virginia in the non-conference. That was an incredible display of fundamentally sound basketball and big shots under pressure for 45 minutes solid. Beaver would wilt by the first TV timeout in such an environment..

  15. WBB:
Steve Gress (who has seniority and was retained when the GT eliminated Lundberg) says:

…don’t worry Beaver Nation, Scott Rueck isn’t going anywhere.
While many wondered if the program would drop off after going to the Final Four in 2016, the fact is that it is better now than ever before and will likely be among the favorites to make a deep run in the 2020 tournament.

Gress outlines Rueck’s record, “in his nine seasons at Oregon State — six straight NCAA tournament appearances, four Sweet 16s, two Elite Eights and a Final Four “

    https://www.gazettetimes.com/sports/beavers-sports/basketball/commentary-don-t-fret-rueck-isn-t-going-anywhere-anytime/article_52305192-a5ff-5d52-9de6-72d77ba1e03e.html

Heh, heh, could Gress be A@a in disguise?

    • I like how Gress puts out a headline that reads like a factual statement (Rueck isn’t going anywhere) but you read the article and he offers no evidence and it’s purely just an unconvincing opinion piece. Thanks for wasting my time Steve.

I ended up getting free tix to the duck wbb game vs Miss St in Portland today. I’m sitting at Moda and would say the crowd looks like it will be 99/1 Oregon/MissSt fans. And Miss St is the 1 seed.
You think the NCAA wanted oregon to move on? I guess I don’t understand the point in being a higher seed.

    • Unsupported claims are just a coincidence. I’ll start to believe your premise when Gress starts to tell us that Pat Casey isn’t human.

    • Really tough to watch a game amongst this entitled fan base. They act like the deck is stacked against them on every play, while in a stadium that’s 99% duck fans.

    • TV guy has two different guys playing first for da Beavs in the same at bat and neither are correct.
      Jon Warren would be proud.

  16. Quick take aways from this game:
1). Beavs win even after getting outplayed at the plate and fielding (errors/hits/strikeouts)
2). Guys other than Rutschman with game changing/winning RBIs — Philip and Mendazona.
3). Gotta work on hitting to contact. 15 strikeouts horrible.
4). Didn’t see them sweepin, even with a healthy Abel. BIG road sweep!

  17. A much needed sweep after the portland fiasco. Shouldn’t lose any ground in the rankings now.

UW players other than Khale didn’t have much fight in them. Really thought UW would go for the safety squeeze with the bases loaded.

A lot of non-competitive at bats today after yesterday’s improvement. Made UW pitchers look like all stars at times.

I’d guess OF depth is an issue since Bailey doesn’t move off Jones, McGarry, Malone in the OF. he doesn’t trust anyone else.

Will need pitchers to step up this week with 5 games. I do expect Abel to throw in one of these games. Maybe Bailey held him out because of the innings they will need in this next week.

  18. After the lack of effort against Portland on Tuesday, certainly didn’t expect a road sweep of the leg humpers.

6 games in the next 8 days. All of them against inferior competition imo.

  19. I just realized I’m at 99.4% in the AB Tourney bracket.
Somehow there are a lot of people with 100% nationally. Must have had their girlfriends throw darts at the bracket.

  20. Exactly, you don’t have to watch, just know the names because the same old names make it, for the most part into at least the sweet 16 – just look at past years. Earlier rounds might have a surprise or two.

    • Actually, no reporting on a non-story should be a good thing in the long run. They shouldn’t get press unless they earn it. Better than the typical responses of “We’re grinding!” or “everyone’s getting stronger and/or faster!” Unless Gebbia is just tearing it up or the defense is wrapping up and tackling, there likely aren’t any real stories.

  21. Big news conference Wednesday morning on the future of the AAF. If they go under there’s a chance, just chance that the Beavs could get Riley back yet again. Third times a charm as the old saying goes!

    • Yet a moron who posts here stated otherwise (youngorst).

The AAF was a failure from the get go and I stated as such.

Something about those who do not learn from the past comes to mind. And it applies to more than just the AAF.

      • None of these “out of season” leagues have ever worked and never will unless they are set up as a true minor league and funded by the NFL, but then they even pulled the plug on NFL Europe eventually. The NFL is the lord and master.

        • It seemed like a decent idea but there are only so many sports viewing hours to go around. Who decided to try to compete with March Madness for airtime?

          • TV ratings were not the problem so not really sure how this is relevant.

CBS had planned to use the AAF as a lead in for the Final Four on Saturday so TV definitely saw at least some value in the league.

The real test of spring football was not the AAF, they were poorly funded, chose bad markets, and because of those markets got no TV money. The XFL is funded heavily (500 million at least), is in big markets, and is rumored to be getting a TV deal that is better than MLS has (I am skeptical of this but that is the rumors) so if the XFL fails I think that will be when people can claim a spring league can never work.

And note, it very well may fail but like MLS succeeding when everyone knew soccer couldn’t make it in the US the XFL has the capital, markets, and people in charge to give it a chance. The AAF had none of that.

          • What people in charge?

Are you saying McMahon will have zero to do with this league? If that’s the case, then it has a chance to survive.

        • Soccer never worked in the US until it did.

Lots of experts on this board though. But I’m just a moron that apparently claimed the AAF would be bigger than the NFL within the year or something similar to that.

        • The USFL was highly successful until some loser decided to challenge the NFL directly through court proceedings and bankrupted a promising business. But this could have been written about any of that loser’s businesses.

      • What did I state about the AAF? I don’t recall ever claiming the AAF would be a massive success.

But whatever you think I said must have really meant something to you to pull it out what must be months later so I am guessing you can quote me.

Now, I have stated that spring football can work. And I stand by that opinion. The AAF was underfunded from the get go, went to minor league cites therefore got no TV money (literally none), and was always relying on the NFL for its survival so I doubt I eve said anything about the AAF surviving long term.

        • Just to add on, for any spring league (or really any new league of any kind) to survive it will need to be ready to lose hundreds of millions of dollars for upwards of a decade. I never saw the AAF being willing to do that. XFL 2020 might be though which might be the league I was talking about. Vince McMahan seems willing to spend at least half a billion dollars. The AAF never had anything close to that kind of commitment.

Even MLS lost hundreds of millions of dollars in its first decades, nearly folding at times. But it had investors willing to lose money. That is the key.

          • Oh and since you feel free to call me a moron. I think I will go ahead and call you out as the asshole you clearly are.

            Thanks.

  22. Reaching out to some angrybeavs business folks here……………

    Mortgage company complaint question

Long story short…………..I get a letter in the mail from my mortgage company stating this is a collection attempt. We have not received your mortgage payment due on March 5. Letter dated March 21. So, I go to my mobile banking thru my credit union and find out in fact that my mortgage payment that was due March 5 had in fact been paid. The check had also cleared and been cashed the same day. This is the 2nd time this has happened in the last year and a half. The last time after I provided an electronic copy of the check supplied from my credit union that had been cashed it was misapplied to someone else’s account.

Excuse me? Once is a mistake or anomaly. Twice? Me thinks something is a little more fucked up going on here.

For the record, this house will be on the market Thursday. That’s been in the works since last year. I will be done with this financial institution soon and would not recommend ANYONE do business with them.

    Their name rhymes with Ditech,

Where do I direct my complaint? BBB? Attorney generals office? Elsewhere????

    • It sounds like you’re having your bank send a paper check through the mail. That process takes up to a week, is subject to US Mail error/delays and human error once it reaches the mortgage lender.

You might see if your checking account bank offers an electronic transfer option. It would need to have a relationship with the lender and most big institutions do. Enter in your mortgage account number into the app and you should be good to go. The transfer takes two business days, instead of a week and is secure from human error.

Not sure you any sort of consumer complaint other than aggravation. You can go after them for any damage to your credit rating due to their incompetence. Good luck.

      • I’m guessing the paper check goes out on the same calendar day each month, but Feb you have 2-3 less days(and a Sunday mixed in) for the mail to reach it’s destination and clear. And the 5th must be the end of the grace period for them to have such a quick trigger on their late payment notice.

Like PB said, unless it damages your credit, not much else you can do besides give them a bad review on angrybeavs and be glad you won’t have this issue to deal with soon.

    • I have Ditech too after USAA sold them my loan. Did you get the, “we’re going bankrupt but it’s all good, keep sending you mortgage checks” letter? I’m escaping them as well at the end of the year when the house is paid off. I’ve never had problems but I use the process Pettibone described.

    • I agree… they could easily win it. IMO they have the best player in the country on their team and she’s ultra competitive.

  23. In an effort to change the subject from UO’s WBB team…

Does anyone know what the deal is with Max Lenzy?

He’s rated as a 4* and had offers from UO and OSU’s former coaching staffs. Now being pursued by Idaho, Utah State and Purdue, which are teams that OSU competes with for recruits. Has interest from Harvard so it shouldn’t be grades.

Is there more to this story, because he seems like JS’s kind of local kid.

    • Good example of trusting the offers more than the ratings. Also Rivals has him rated 3*. 247 is the only 4* rating I see for Max.

My theory is both OSU and UofO really wanted to sign his older brother Braden last year, so they made an offer for little brother in an effort to encourage Braden to stay in state. But Braden went to Notre Dame, so the little brother offer ceased to exist. (Also coaching staff changes could have played into why he wasn’t re-offered by the Beavs/ducks)

      • He’s the kind of kid who will get a p5 offer the night before the Feb signing day if the school has struck out on everyone else.

        • Or a school like UCLA offers him during his senior year once he shows some improvement from his Jr year and then suddenly everybody else jumps on the bandwagon.

          • Ah, that makes sense about his older brother. Pretty fucked up at the same time. Sounds like he is a gamer but probably won’t have the speed to play corner in the P12. He should gain 15# and play safety.

    • What’s the tally for Mike Riley hirings/exits at OSU? I think it’s currently at 4

Hired as HC in the mid 90’s, took an NFL job after the 1997 season.
Hired again as HC in the early 2000’s, left in 2014 for Nebraska.
Hired again, as Assistant to the HC in 2017, left a few months later for AAF
Hired again as Advisor to the HC in early 2018, left to concentrate on AAF job.
Will he be back again in early 2019? What are the odds?

  24. Here’s a tweet that is very hard to disagree with:

    aleah goodman
    ? @aleahgoodman
How does Mikayla Pivec not make an All-American team??? This season she played out of her mind and we don’t win half the games without her!!! People need to stop looking at the hype around players and actually watch them play, cause she’s the definition of an All-American!!

I notice this came out after Destiny was selected as honorable mention All American, apparently the only Beav gal to get a national award.

Speaking of Beav gal, what happened to our own ab Beavgal (Beavgirl?)?

  25. D1 baseball just put out their mid season tourney projection.

Pac 12 solidly represented. 6 teams in. 4 top 8 seeds. Beavs at #3.

Beavs non conf opponents, west Virginia, coastal, Indiana, Oklahoma St make it in.

  26. This team is so irritating to watch at the plate sometimes.. first four batters:

    Strikeout looking
    Strikeout looking
Adley battles and gets a single
    Strikeout looking

  27. Tweedt really struggling. SDSU is a solid team (making the tournament the last 3 or 4 years) gonna kick Beav ass with the way this team is batting and pitching.

  28. Gonna need a touchdown to go with that field goal. Both pitchers can’t find the plate. Batters need to be patient — Aztec pitcher starting to unravel.

  29. Hammy? Jones baits Aztecs and moves from 2b to 3b on routine fly to CF.
Nonchalant initial move to tagup lulled Aztecs, we’ll see that again this season……….and Casey smiles.
Still, 4-3 Aztecs going to the 9th.

    • These midweek games are tough when the other team is playing to win and the Beavers are playing to save pitching for the weekend. Last year they were so good teams didn’t always burn up their good pitchers and the hitting was good enough it often didn’t matter who the Beavers had on the mound.

  30. Through 6 the Beavs have 9 LOB
Still, lead 5-1 on 5 hits and 8 bb.
Chamberlain, Walling, Pfennigs 2 innings each…….that’s the way a mid week game should be used.

  31. Rumor – a wbb player might be transferring. Only heard it from one source (but credible in the past) and Rueck doesn’t have a big history of players transferring so I’d say a small chance of being true.

    • A strong lineup next season, playing time gonna be at a premium.

I wonder if Aleah’s tweet posted here yesterday afternoon indicates anything, Notice her mention of “people need to stop looking at the hype around players and actually watch them play…”

Perhaps tension over the press surrounding Destiny?

      • I’m thinking a post player transferring would be more likely.
We lose Grymek, but add Aquino, plus Kennedy Brown is one of the top freshman in the country, and we also are adding 6’9″ Serbian, Jelena Mitrovic.

Or someone like Jasmine Simmons I could see wanting to transfer considering she was seldom used, is far from home, and we have Taylor Jones coming in next year who would likely take minutes before Simmons. Team should have really good depth next year if everyone gets/stays healthy.

  32. “Clearly something changed in the past week.”, says Lundeberg on Bailey’s announcement this evening that Abel will not pitch this weekend and the team will “find out more information on Monday”

This after previous word that Abel was throwing bullpens and making steady progress.

    https://twitter.com/The_Real_Bob

  33. TO: Scot Barnes From: Mike Riley Former Head Coach San Antonio Commanders

Hi Scott…. Hold off on that new uniform order from Nike. I might be able to get you a heck of deal on an entire teams worth of “lightly used” AAF gear. It might require you to change the universities colors, but that’s no big deal. MR

PS: Looking forward to helping out with football this year. Will be back in Corvallis on Saturday. Let’s grab a cup and kick around some ideas. I don’t think Jon needs to be involved at this point, let’s keep it on the DL.

  34. I see where Canzano has chimed in on Muffet McGraw’s comment that only women should coach women’s basketball at the college level. (Lest anyone worry, I have an ad blocker.) He describes this, seemingly without irony given his history, as a “polarizing debate.”

The key section is when he asks, rhetorically, readers to imagine if an employee said “I’m not going to hire anybody who is–pregnant—disabled—Christian.” Such an act would, he states “not only go over like a lead balloon, it could be illegal under federal law.”

Of course, again ironically, were someone to add to his litany “an ex-convict” this too would be compelling, except, of course, Luke Heimlich isn’t an ex-con. And MLB’s not hiring him is also probably illegal under federal employment law.

  35. The Beav stream last night was much better than the PAC 12 Network. How is that possible?
Parker had a nice story about the legendary Dave from Tumwater getting Casey’s kid’s HR ball in Seattle and giving it to Pat. He must be a righteous dude.

  36. Smith said he has not spoken to Riley since the AAF ended and nothing has been decided on what his role might be with OSU football.
“I think he still owns a home (in Corvallis) and he’s always welcome to be hanging out, just like Dennis (Erickson),” Smith said. “I’m trying to get him back here for an alumni golf tournament in a couple weeks.
“I think he’s going to be around.”

Of course “he’s going to be around”……….no surprise there!
Alumni golf and being welcome to watch practice, maybe OK; but more than that??

Trying to take the “glass half full” here, it may be telling that JS lumped Riley in with Dennis Erickson.

    https://www.gazettetimes.com/sports/beavers-sports/football/osu-football-beavers-back-on-the-field-after-break/article_ec3f4e49-19e3-5414-b06e-521f6b990c53.html

EDIT/ADD: Hard to stay with that “glass half full” thing after listening to Jonathan in this 2 minute piece put up by Ron Callan. Also mentioned is David Morris and the continuing hamstring situation……he may very well miss all of Spring.

    https://twitter.com/roncallan

    • Jesus, what is it with Beaver athletes snd chronic injuries??? Does anyone else feel like our athletes have a tougher time coming back from injuries than normal? Do we have sub-standard PT methods/personnel?

    • Until OSU can secure a genuinely visionary, motivated AD, this is unlikely to meaningfully change. Many programs trade on their past as “tradition,” its just that OSU Beavers Football tradition – as measured by Riley – is lower than most some programs. Really, Riley gets a pass because of the 28-year losing streak.

We have to HOPE Casey returns to baseball, Rueck’s team next year has someone one(s) with killer mindset and ice in their veins and accept that all other sports (gymnastics excepted?) will be mediocre.

    • I don’t like these excuses how we’re dropping passes because of rain.
It does sound like we still suck, and it’s concerning these coaches think Luton is the answer.

      • A drive killing missed field goal from Choukair on the first drive.
Drive killing missed receptions on the 2nd drive.
Drive killing INT by Luton on the 3rd drive.
Defensive miscue allowing a wide open receiver on the 4th drive.

Yep, OSU football is back, baby!!

  37. Weather not cooperating for baseball. Doesn’t hurt the beavs if the series is cut short.

Looking ahead to the rest of the year, 29 games left. Losses to Utah or wsu would be bad losses. All other opponents have good rpis. Surprised how high Portland is this year.

Win half the games, should be hosting. Win 60 percent, will be a top 8 seed.

  38. Baylor’s going to win this game. Biggest difference, their star made shots in the last few minutes, Ionescu did not.

    • And it all started with 2 outs. Nice to see Preston patient at the plate to draw the walk, things snowballed from there leading to AD’s homerun.

  39. OT but any of you guys know a nice video or site to learn how to score a baseball game?
Son’s baseball team needs a score keeper and well I guess I’m it.

    • I often see people with apps on their ipads at Goss tracking the games. I could see something like that making your life easier.
I dont know of any tutorials though

    • Doesn’t matter if you watch a video, learning in person is the fastest way to learn.

If you’ve never scored a game, there’s a few things you need to do right all the time.

      1. Know who is supposed to be up to bat at the start of each inning. Use the player’s numbers to identify. It’s the easiest way.
      2. Score the runs each inning. the rest of the details are less important.
      3. Keep the ball strike count on each batter. Umpires sometime forget the count. If the ump has the wrong count, let him know.

Sit behind the plate if you can. Helps identify players quickly.

If the teams start subbing, don’t be afraid to speak up and ask who subbed for who.

And always ask for help if you really don’t know.

      • Great input from Bill (no surprise), especially for a parent scoring youth games.

Only time you’ll be more on the spot than scoring is if you get called on to substitute ump (don’t ask how I know, lol).

A good scorebook should have some instructions as to how to note each at bat, type of out made or type of hit – grounder/liner/fly and to which field.

    • Seems like the league should have a class for that, I know in corvallis they did. Scorekeeper should be a breeze, just be thankful you didn’t get roped into a position as umpire, I had that pleasure 3 years, that freaking sucked.

    • And by another Realtor to boot!
They finally had to travel and that combined with a short bench didn’t help.
As much as I dislike the ucks and all they stand for, they did stay in it all the way. Now uck fans are going all “glass half full” convinced that the princess will return next season.

      • Clownzano did a blathering piece about Ionescu needing to stay another year because she will get more exposure with Nikegon. Eggers did a detailed piece explaining the European options for her among other things, he thinks she’s going to leave. The contrast was interesting.

        • We will know if shes staying by Sunday evening. She only has 48 hours after her last game to declare for the wnba draft. And shes only allowed to declare because she has a december birthday. Those gals have some weird rules.

          • She has no financial incentive to turn pro, it’s all about her.

I think she’ll stay. Unless Nike is offering some kind of endorsement deal.

          • What’s to stop nike from offering some type of extra incentive in her upcoming shoe deal, if she stays in college an extra year. Seems like it would be easy enough to inflate the contract value as a thank you.

  40. Lundeberg tweets weather looks shakey for a DH today.
Lineup similar to the first game; Willy batting 8, McMahan 9, Philip still leadoff, Gretler DH.
    On the bench: McGarry.

  41. Fehmel cruisin’, 68 pitches through 6.
Beavs up 8-0 still in the b6

Nice to hear Parker mention Jonathan Smith watching a game vs SDSU with Pat Casey. Is competitiveness contagious??

  42. Michael Avenatti may be one of the slimiest people in a slimy profession, but I certainly do appreciate his efforts to disrupt the rampant corruption that’s been going on in college recruiting. People keep saying Nike can’t be dirty because Avenatti is a dirtbag, but the two scenarios are not mutually exclusive. Maybe it’s the worst kept secret that players are making money on the side, and I also dont care if the players cash in on their fame. But we at least need a transparent process in college recruiting if we are ever to believe there’s a level playing field in these competitions. Is that too much to ask for?

    • Utah starter was good, now gone. Lets see what their reliever can do. B7, 2-1 Utes with one down and Preston at 2b, Harvey at bat, oops Fuchs to PH for Harvey. Harvey has been doing well, not sure if this is smart move.

  43. 3-2 Beavs walkoff 11th inning on Jones RBI double.
JAKE !……..not as sharp as usual but got the job done. Gets the W facing 17 and giving up 3 hits, 5 K’s, 1bb, but NO RUNS.

        • Tenn, Maryland, OSU. Doesn’t really matter for transferring though, Slocum was committed to Washington before ending up at Maryland, no interest in OSU. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Evina end up at Oregon.

          • Westbrook is class of 2017, and most likely isn’t eligible yes to grad transfer, so she would likely need to sit 1 year, wherever she goes. Although we’ve seen hardships granted left and right by the NCAA lately, so I could see her somehow suiting up for a final 4 run for Oregon next year because of some legal loophole.
There haven’t really been any serious rumors yet about where she’ll end up though.

  44. For those of you watching the Final Four, they had to put black out curtains on all the glass in US Bank Stadium to satisfy the NCAA requirements. 5 million dollars worth! Half of the roof and the ends are glass.

  45. Some interesting tidbits:
Bryce Fehmel’s win was his fifth of the year but also the 31st of his career. He surpassed Ken Noble (1975-78) for sole possession of third. Fehmel now trails only Ben Wetzler (2011-14) and Luke Heimlich (2015-18) for most in a career; each had 36.

    Shutouts
Bryce The shutout was the third of Fehmel’s career, which puts him into a tie for ninth at Oregon State.

    Winning Percentage
By improving to 31-5 all-time, Fehmel also increased his winning percentage to .861. He narrowly trails teammate Sam Tweedt (.867) for fourth at OSU. Tweedt is 13-2 since joining the program in 2015.

    • Most of Tweedt’s wins have come against non-conference opponents while Fehmel’s wins against conference opponents. Not to take anything away from Tweedt necessarily but Fehmel has pitched against tougher competition in my opinion.

  46. UCLA and ASSU both won today. Beavs now in a 3-way tie for 2nd with those two teams. Stanford leads by 1/2 game. I don’t considering anyone else to even be a contender for the Pac-12 title. Huge series next weekend in Tempe for the Beavs. Gonna be tough for the Beavs with all three series against those teams on the road (already dropped the FUCLA series).

Weren’t we supposed to hear some Kevin Abel news this week or is that update supposed to be tomorrow?

    Tree 7-2
    OSU 9-3
    FUCLA 9-3
    ASSU 9-3

  47. Boyd’s World iterative strength rankings have the Pac 12 in the 1st through 4th spots:
    1) UCLA
    2) OSU
    3) Stanford
    4) Arizona State
    5) UC Santa Barbara
    6) Vanderbilt

Also saw that Adley leads the nation in on base percentage and walks. He’s 8th in batting avg and 13th in homers.

Brandon Eisert is 3rd in the nation in ERA with 0.75

  48. Worth noting, Musselman leaves Nevada for Arkansas (maybe this is old news). It was mentioned here OSU should have gone after him when looking for a coach when the Tinkle hire happened. If Arkansas was able to get him then I’d think Beavs had a pretty good chance. Now we can compare apples to apples with him coaching in a power 5 conference.

  49. Asu will be an interesting series. Asu offense vs OSU pitching.

Also, asu doesn’t carry a full roster. Only 27 guys. Light on pitching.

So if Beavs can get to the bullpen early, asu has to really stretch out guys. Hopefully warm weather heats up the bats.

  50. Holy crap we recruit some of the worst players of any university west of the Mississippi. We are going to be dog shit for sooooo long!

Our offensive line next year is worse than Westerns! Linfields roster has more talent top to bottom again! How does this happen? We are supposed to be a god damn power 5 program and the lowest division teams are roundhouse kicking us in the face nearly every year!

    • Really? I thought oregon was supposed to have some good talent returning next year, but I’ll take your word for it.

      • With Phil past 80, his next steps are likely a huge endowment to UO and then to be cryogenically frozen in hopes of being revived if they ever win an NCAA championship under the endowment terms. His “Cryo-Pod” will no doubt have elements of Nike shoe tech, digitally controlled color schemes to match the uniform of the day, and be mobile so it can be moved from the men’s football locker room to the men’s basketball locker room for the remainder of Earth’s natural life.

  51. So Baylor women win the women’s basketball title. Quote at the end about Brown:

“Mulkey calls Brown the “kindest, sweetest kid.” But when she arrived at Baylor, the coach said, she needed to embrace her size and learn to lean in, instead of blend in.

“It’s O.K. to raise your voice and holler, ‘Give me the ball,’ ” Mulkey said.”

OSU women’s basketball – from the sounds of their reticence to shoot in the tournament – needs similar growth in aggressiveness from someone(s)?

    • We lived in Knoxville during her playing days and were big Lady Vols fans — Pat Summit considered Kelly one of the smartest players she’d ever had.

  52. Forecast for game tomorrow vs nikegon is less than 15% rain with wind blowing out. I wouldn’t have minded a rainout, not likely now.
Oh well, more $ for Barnes.

  53. Evina Westbrook has been working out at our gym every afternoon around 2:00. It must mean that she has not enrolled in spring classes at UT. Will be interesting to see where she lands.

  54. Malone batting #5 today,
Mendazona, Harvey, McMahan make up the bottom three, seems like any of those three is hitting better than Malone at the moment………….subject to change

        • Luke pitched 5 innings and had a no-decision.

“Union Laguna hit a pair of solo home runs in the second inning, but over the rest of his five innings Heimlich allowed just three hits and two walks with five strikeouts.”

          • Nuevo Laredo, Tamps. (www.tecolotes2laredos.com / Juan Alanís) April 9th.- The Canadian Michael Crouse put on his hero’s outfit when he shot a single with a full house in the bottom of the tenth episode, thus giving the triumph 5 races to 4 to Algodoneros over the Dos Laredos, at the start of the series in laguna territory.

The relief of the Dominican Frankie De La Cruz (1-0) was favored with the triumph in work of three innings of a race, three hits, three strikeouts and a passport.

For Tecolotes, the lost game was for Román Méndez (0-1), who worked in the ninth inning and four men in the tenth, with three hits, two strikeouts, the same number of passports and the difference race.

The Two Cities team (3-1) started on the scoreboard from the first inning on the pitching of starter Saul Castellanos with productions by Roberto Valenzuela and Balbino Fuenmayor. The American Johnny Davis, who ran on the trails due to a pineapple by the initialist, and Valenzuela himself, opened the board when they reached the home plate.

The difference moved 3-0 for the visitors in the second inning, when Luis Flores scored after receiving four bad throws, and later Rudy Flores pushed him with a single to left field.

In his professional baseball debut, left-handed American Luke Heimlich was greeted with pair of homers by Michael Crouse and Enrique Pere007A, squeezing the board at the bottom of the second roll.

The 23-year-old worked five complete episodes of five fans, equal number of hits, two runs and pair of passports.

It was until the eighth act that the feathered ones would extend the advantage over the pitching of Frankie De La Cruz, with simple producer of Juan Martinez, who pushed Josh Rodríguez for the 4-2 partial.

The draw came in that same inning with back-to-back home runs by Niuman Romero and Viosergy Rosa, on the pitches of the young Yucatecan Gerardo Gutiérrez.

Finally, with the bases filled at the close of the tenth, Algodoneros (1-3) turned the scoreboard over with unstoppable Crouse right field over Román Méndez, so that Francisco Ferreiro scored and unleashed the madness in the Stadium of the Revolution.

In Tecolotes, they saw action in the relay Jeff Ibarra (0.2IP, 1H, 2K), Ivan Zavala (0.1IP, 1K), Pedro Rodriguez (1.0IP, 2K) and Jose Meraz (0.2IP, 1BB).

For those of Torreón, Vanny Valenzuela (1.1IP, 1K) and Román Peña (1.0IP, 1K) relieved.

This Wednesday, starting at 7:30 p.m., the second duel of the series presents as probable starters to right-handers Kenneth Sigman, of Tecolotes, and Alejandro Martínez, of Algodoneros.

  55. That was some bad baseball. Tweedty Bird has earned a permanent place on the bench.
Chamberlain has the classic college pitcher meltdown. Several defensive screwups extend innings.
The cherry on the top is our SS getting injured and the Abel news. Crap.
