  1. OT… in the wrestlebacks:
Bresser loses to and is eliminated by the 2 seed from Cornell, 13-3. Crawford the same to the 12 seed from Wyoming, 12-1. Elder was losing in the third but turned the guy over for a quick pin.

So Elder, Meeks and Latham are left. Win one, and they’re AA with a chance to place as high as 3rd. Lose now and they’re eliminated.

    • All wrestlers eliminated in the blood round. No AAs. Elder went down to Ian Miller, who was jobbed in a big way in the quarters when the refs didn’t score a point for him with seconds left in the match. That will be the scandal of this tourney for years.

  2. Parker said that if they could get the first pitch in by 10:00pm they’d at least start tonight.

First pitch now scheduled for 7:05pm. They’re underway in Eugene

  3. Moore getting the strike call at the knees and is ahead of every hitter, another 1-2-3 inning.

In b1 the Beavs had 3 fly balls and a BB by KJ

  4. b5 no outs sacks juiced and Church a soft FC RBI, nice baserunning by Harrison to not get caught off of third. 1 out 3-0 good guys.

  5. Lefties coming up for their 4th look at Mo. Maybe time for the pen, even with Mo still throwing strikes but giving up better AB’s.

  6. Difference in the game is that Moore’s only walked 1 and cougar pitchers have walked 6. Coug pitchers have hit two beaver batters. Both teams with 5 hits. Moore with 8 Ks and coug staff with 5.

  7. Nobach knocks in the PR Cary but is out at 3b trying to stretch the double. Very good relay throw right on the money. 5-2 heading to the 8th

  8. Clutch K to get the second out with the runner on third. Righty coming up should be the last batter Moore faces.
And with the FO, Moore should be done, 8 complete is enough. And 114 pitches is his high for this season.
On to the b8, Beavs up 5-2

        • He’s going too deep into each start…he will be worn down by the halfway point. Plus if he wants any career after OSU all things innings are not good on a young arm.

          • Not the first time Casey pushed a bit too hard. Just because the horse will give you its all doesn’t make it smart to push the limit every time.

          • Moore will be fine. And he’ll be a baller beyond college. This decision might have had to do with the weather. When I got up there it turned into a downpour. I don’t think they stopped for that half hour… or so.

I can’t beleive that game continued, let alone finished.

          • it was fucking pouring in Corvallis and Philomath several times during play. Can’t believe they didn’t halt play a few times

          • It’s that field surface, right? My son played a tournament in 50 degree, pouring rain with that shit. I guess the drainage is amazing.

  9. Important to take the next two in this series to offset last week. All season long the Beavs have to sweep lower tier teams cause some of the leaders are gonna be rough.

  10. Probably, but based on the pre-season prognosticators, I would put the Beavs in that category also. Especially if they can keep it going in league play. Also, nice to see the Ducks hittting the skids, the longer their slump goes on the better!!

    • There was a ot of talk about this and that talent returning for this and that team. Nikegon was way overrated for pitching. ASU was way underrated. I’m disappointed in our outcome there. But RPI will not show it as poor in the end. And then I don’t care about our sister school to the south who gave up wrestling (unnecessarily) and, according to booster Bob, quilting bee, just to make a stadium out of Shakedown Street.

I’m always afraid that losses to Nikegon will affect our RPI.

So just don’t lose to them.

  11. I have Arizona winning it all, though, and I think that is a terrible pick. They are overrated. I just picked them because they were the highest seed in the Pac. I also had UCLA winning two, which helped a lot. I felt they were underrated. I had Utah losing in the first round, thinking they are way overrated. I think Georgetown destroys them.

  12. I pick against the Ducks, Duke and Kentucky no matter what, so I don’t get very far. I hate elite programs, not always because of the coaches or players, but because of their fans. I have Wisconsin going through.

  13. I’ll be watching Gretler today, he’s shown some solid baserunning and baseball IQ in his limited playing time this season. Batting #8 at .167, needs exposure to raise that.

  14. Morrison’s poor throw on the first out t2 is the second poor throw since Jim Wilson commented a few games back that Trevor had such an accurate arm that there was never any concern in that area. Curse of JW?
Nice play by Harrison to handle the throw and get the out.

  15. Heavy lefty lineup for the Cougs and Rasmussen is just dominating the hitters. 3 Ks through 2 and Beavs lead 1-0 on Harrison’s RBI

    • Clark first ball swinging today, not sure I like that. But, with this pitcher an errant throw (and certainly a BB) isn’t as likely as with some so maybe no big deal.

  16. Glad to have the stream, but really miss the replays we get on PAC12 Net.
Of course with the stream we get to hear Parker seeking advice on how to pronounce “arabica” coffee beans.

  17. Morrison aboard on the second wsu error but inning over as Hendrix GIDP. Hard hit ball but the SS was cheating toward 2b and made the play.

  18. 6 innings in the book for Rasmussen. 75 pitches; throwing strikes at just under the rate of Andrew last night but a bit more dominating, so far.

  19. It put question marks for my heart eye emojis! How rude. Anyways, if ab has a group someone should let me know what it is…. I’m on the espn brackets

  20. Gabe Clark now hitting .125 in conference play. Pay Casey leaves him cleanup. I’ve been saying since game 1 this guy cannot bat cleanup in Conference play.

  21. told casey to get DR in there. now he needs to get clark out of there, and find a better option than hamilton. do all that, and the team can be great.

  22. I’m watching this game, tuned in about the fourth inning and Parker keeps talking about 1-2-3 innings and I’m wondering if Rasmussen has a no-hitter. I’m wondering if Parker just doesn’t want to jinx him. I figure surely they’ve got at least one hit, but no; the last out and it’s not only a no-hitter, but a no-walker, a perfect game. Sweet. I remember a couple years ago one of our guys threw a no-hitter, but wow, a perfect game. Congratulations to Drew behind some solid defense!!!

  23. An OK performance by Gretler today, very good D and a timely RBI (even though due, in large part to a drawn in infield). Only downside I remember is the possible missed sign early on.

        • Gretzler is a solid, line drive/gap hitter. I’d rather see him at 3B than Hamilton unless he completely fails in the field. Casey gave up on Carey too quickly. He had good swings just poor results. He fell for Clark ganging up on bad pitching again. We went through that last year. Surprised Casey can’t see it.

          • Based on today, I doubt he’ll fail in the field. As said before, he has shown smart baserunning and IQ.

Platooning Carey with Clark seems a good start, and a no brainer.

    • What I was googling, and what someone can maybe help me with, is why Oregon state couldn’t ever make it in to the NCAA tournament when they had players like Corey Benjamin, or Brent Barry, Carson Cunningham, JB Bickerstaff…

I was a little kid back then so wasn’t a follower. One of you older fans must have some insight. Did the beavs ever come close to a tourny birth over the last 25 years?

      • no. Bickerstaff transferred to Minnesota, Benjamin left after his sophomore season for a failed pro career (he wasn’t ready for the NBA) and Cunningham transferred to Purdue. Ron Grady eventually transferred as well. I believe to Colorado State. Eddie Payne was left with nothing of his much heralded recruiting class. Although he did eventually sign a JC guy named Phillip Ricci who was pretty good, that kind of sealed Payne’s fate. That and he was a hot head. Broke numerous clipboards slamming them on the floor and I was told of another incident where he threw a tennis racket onto the roof of the country club while playing tennis.

    • “Robinson just couldn’t deliver on any of his promises when he was hired,” Register-Guard sports reporter Benjamin Schorzman recently said. “Frankly I think his relationship to the Obamas was the only reason he lasted six years because Oregon State was middling to bad every year.”

Yeah that Register Guard is a real right wing conservative mouthpiece.

  24. Nationally ranked ucks lose their series vs ASU. Playing at home, the ucks don’t fare any better than the freshman laden Beavs did on the road. Pending tomorrow’s game they may well fare worse.

Ahh, but those white uni’s with random scraps of green/yellow look sooooooo classy!
    As always…FTD!

  25. Final thoughts on the Perfect Game.

Harrison gets an assist. In the second inning he made a great stretch to get the out on an errant throw by Morrison and then later on (6th I think) he made a good fielding play on a sharply hit ball down the 1b line and retired the batter unassisted.

The cougs only hit the ball hard twice all day. Rasmussen with 10 Ks and the cougs never did figure him out.

The atmosphere at Goss in the 9th was absolutely electric. What a great college baseball game. And it was over in less than 2 hours.

    • An E at any point could ruin a perfect game, so everyone who touched the ball gets just a little bit of an assist. Along with Harrison, Gretler (as noted during the game) deserves a little extra love. Charging and getting the PO on at least two slow grounders caught my attention.
      It’s all good.

  26. Does the catcher, Dane Lund, get any credit for catching the perfect game? Mike Parker noted that at no time during the game, no one, no one ever at all, went to the mound.

  27. Beautiful day in Corvallis today… just beautiful.

In fact, one could say it was perfect.

That was the fastest game I have ever attended by far. Bracket’s blowin’ up, and I don’t care.

  28. CANNOT believe I missed that game, hopefully they replay in on PAC-12. What a gem. Rasmussen is now a force with the confidence coming out of this outing.

    • Guy behind me was making laser sounds when he pitched… pew… pew, pew… for a couple innings. It was kinda annoying, but then I figured it was better to hear that than it was to hear groans. Then we started talking about how Lund was going to need to ice his glove hand tonight.

There were some massive pops in that mitt today.

Made me not feel so guilty for leaving in the fifth last night. Sucks that the women’s game is at 7:00. I want to stick around after bezbol to see it, but it’s just too far into the evening.

It’s my last chance to cheer against a Tinkle on our floor. :)

  29. And the mighty Big East is reduced to one… Xavier. They play Zony next?

    Buh-bye Big East.

SEC has only one team left too. But they might be a good one. B1G will likely be reduced to one tomorrow as well… unless the Pac keeps up with the ACC with a zero in the loss column.

ACC is 10-0 with four games tomorrow. Pac is 7-0 with one more this weekend.

Rooting for SDSU against Duke tomorrow. If they and Zags win tomorrow, a team from the West is guaranteed a Final Four spot… in the South bracket.

    • Feeling pretty good about how we did this year despite running out of gas. The Pac showing well this year will only help the 5-8 teams who will be on the bubble next year. With depth next year, we should be pushing for a top four or better finish next season.

Gotta go over to the Gopherboard to see if they have any news on next year’s scheduling.

  30. Sparty sends the ACC champs packing. Have to love Izzo. This was a pretty average team by their standards, but he has them in the Sweet Sixteen again. Trice has been a fun player to watch, but I’m glad he is graduating.

    • Two WTF losses in the non-conference, but Izzo has them ready to play in the tourney. I don’t follow Sparty hoops that closely, but Izzo seems pretty down to earth for that level.

  31. Joy of joys…..Watch ESPN is finally available through DirecTV. Now if DirecTV and the P-12 can get their shit together before the season starts, I will gladly bid goodbye to our Ukranian friends.

  32. Gabe Clark has been having such bad luck of late. Two hard hit balls caught up against the wall, another line drive at the center fielder this series. Still showing great patience at the plate and getting on base. His hits will come if he keeps hitting the ball hard

    • He has gotten better this year. He wasn’t good last year in conference play. Got on base at an okay rate but wasn’t squaring pitches up that much. This year he’s squaring pitches up but not being rewarded. When some of these hard hit balls fall in he won’t be as criticized.

  33. Eckert gives up a leadoff single, has the batter 0-2 then goes to 3-2 before giving up the RBI double to tie it. Man at 2b with nobody out.

  34. t6 Leow comes back from 0-2 to get an RBI double, runner is the first coug to keep his footing going from 2 to 3 and scores. 1-1 now, Eckert fading.

  35. Donahue with a leadoff double, Hendrix sac bunt and Morrison strikes out on 3 pitches. Closer on for the cougs and KJ to the plate.

  36. Heimlich gives up a leadoff single but fields the sac bunt attempt and gets the lead runner. Next batter hits one back to Luke who starts the DP.

  37. Clark leads off the 7th with another shot to the warning track.
I realize the Beavs are young, but don’t the Cougs look old?,,,as in mature for college guys?

  38. My bad, the closer for WSU just enters the game to start b8. Quickly disposes of the bottom of the order and we’re off to the 9th, 1-1.

  39. Another good inning by Heimlich. 4.1 IP and only allowed 1 hit and has 3 Ks.

Beaver offense only has 6 hits through 9. Now through 10.

    • And there wasn’t any doubts, deep to right center But then maybe not, didn’t see the replay and my eyes aren’t so good any more.

    • I was at the game. Morrison’s walk-off double did not leave the park — it landed just short of the wall in right center.

    • Pac-12 network said 2-1 was the final which is why I’m confused. Morrison was mobbed at 3rd base and never crossed home plate

          • The release from OSU says of Morrison, “Because Donahue had not scored by the time Morrison hit second, the game-winner was ruled a double and capped off a 3-for-4 day for the sophomore.”

Parker’s description on the electric radio seemed clear to me, although he didn’t mention that Morrison got to second before Donahue could get to the plate.
