  1. Tree’s 3b pretty casual (as said by TV announcers) on that play to finish the t2. 0-2 count and KJ produces that soft grounder……….luck ‘o the Beavs?

    • All the mo seemed to be with tree, but then again, they have left a dozen on base; still, feels like Beavs are stuck in “coast” mode.

  2. Nice to see Andrew get the W, he has had so many no-decisions and lack of offensive support this season.
Need to see the O get going and stay going; Rasmusen due for a good outing….I believe/hope.

BTW: 4 way tie for second in the Conf.

  3. Does anyone have, or know where to find, a “coverage map” of the different Pac-12 channel broadcasts?

For instance, what area(s) does Pac-12 Oregon get broadcast? I have a feeling that the eastern 2/3 of Oregon is tied either to Pac-12 Washington or Pac-12 Mountain. It certainly doesn’t seem to be tied to Pac-12 Oregon’s broadcasts.

    I know, whining again….

    • Well it’s a valid point. Some tv execs somewhere are totally missing the concept that P12 Oregon is missing have of its audience. This is the type of thing that I would place on the athletic director to adequately inform the tv execs of this continually missed opportunity for greater product coverage. But BDC was so good at eloquently pointing out what he didn’t think was his job. Hopefully the new AD won’t miss on improving P12 revenues. Won’t miss on allowing poor tv scheduling, Those ARE athletic director job functions.

    • Can’t fully answer your question, but I know Bendbroadband always carries both the main PAC12 and the PAC12-Oregon. So, I am guessing it is entirely dependent upon the cable provider.

PAC streams all subsets as well as the occasional bonus…like recently when softball displaced the beginning of a Beavs baseball game.

      • I’m on Dish Network. You would think that with 5 channels the Pac-12 would send a feed to one of them, although the game IS on tonight. I’ve contacted Dish and they say that it is totally up to the Pac-12 what is broadcast.

  4. OT, but what do you guys think about the incoming crop of RBs?

Tim Cook has a pretty impressive offer sheet- thoughts from his highlight reel?

In addition to Cook, we have another *4* running backs in the class of 2015: Katoa, Lucas, Sands, and Thomas. Anderson must have no confidence in our talent at the position- he appears to be completely rebuilding.

I have heard rumors that Lucas may be used as a WR though- anyone want to comment on that?

  5. Lucas is expected to return kickoffs as well.

American Pharoah won the Preakness. Best chance I have seen at Triple Crown in quite some time. Todd Stansbury right now is closest thing in Oregon State AD race. Call Byrne Divining Rod and Casey Dortmund. Massari bringing in the rear.

Is there a darkhorse out there? Don’t like the idea of an interim AD if it confuses the selection process at all. Cal situation turned into a mess. Prefer agrressively targeting leaders now and either hiring right after the 4th of July or by mid August right before the start of the Football season.

  6. Ice starting again tonight, Harrison-Nobach-Cary in the middle of the order; no Gabe Clark in sight.
    SC already whipped Cal, darn.
    GO BEAVS!

  7. How long are they gonna let Rasmussen go? Three straight lead off walks and over 100 pitches. Looked sharp early and has given up only 3 hits, but………….

  8. KJ two more RBI’s, 7-2 Beavs, on to the b8. The Kiwi is done for the night, Sam coming in to see if he can get 6 outs.
Who will start vs the ucks now that Tweedt is in tonight?

  9. Not sure I wanted to see ASU win tonight, but, watching Carrot Top/Hamilton eat it was enjoyable. For some reason I really dislike that douche.

  10. OT- Don’t know anything about the author, but he ranks OSU as one of the top 5 programs in decline among the football power conferences. I think it’s interesting because we all seem very energized by the changes in Corvallis, but I’m wondering where the intersection of expectation and reality meet at this point (at least for the short term)? That being said, the author does spout a lot of the typical Riley/Corvallis cliches.

    http://fansided.com/2015/05/15/5-college-football-programs-decline/5/

    • Tough to recruit to Corvallis, blah, blah, blah. Same shit regurgitated over and over in the national sports press echo chamber.

    • Sure, Riley, “made the jump to another program”. More and more it is obvious that Riley was pushed out, thank goodness (or Ray, or BDC, or “influential boosters”).
Note that this writer is paid by the same folks who are providing our gal Lindsay with a platform.

mckalk has a valid point, the intersection of expectations and reality is coming up fast and will be worth watching.

    • This dude doesn’t seem to have his facts straight either. I would like to know how we can be in decline when we have nowhere to go but up… literally. Playing against the Pac South is hard and daunting and all that? If we didn’t do that last season, we would have had zero conference wins.

I’ll need a definition for decline. If we’re already at the bottom, where do we decline from there?

      • It’s interesting because this guy is pumping up Riley for the achievments, but giving him a pass for the decline. You can’t have it both ways. I’ve never heard of the author and I didn’t realize it was SI related when I posted it…maybe it’s Lindsay under an alias?

  11. As expected, Lund gets the start today. Not so predictable: Clark is in at DH, Hamilton lead off, and Gillette in the 5 hole.
GO BEAVS! The importance of a win today cannot be overstated.

  12. Wow. Ducks sweep Utah. Only took until the next to last weekend of the regular season for them to sweep someone. theyll be brought back to reality on Tuesday

    • Our friends at The Oregonian are pumping hard to keep the Ducks in the playoff picture. Every story seems to have a line or two about this win or that win keeping their tourney hopes alive. I see a clear dividing line in the conference and the Quacksters are below it, but you never know what Phil Knight’s money can do.

  13. Holy shitballs! Pitch to contact and look what happens???? Pop out to short ends the misery. 5-3 after 6

  14. Cary strikes out, ball gets away from catcher. Cary safe at first and Lund scores from 3rd. 6-3 Beavs

  15. Nice base running by Beavs after Stanford tried to catch a player in a run down. Card looked like the Keystone Cops out there. :)

    • I was laughing at the Beav runner shadowing the guy at 3rd base basically standing right behind him. Dude would’ve tagged him out had he just turned around

  16. Now, Beavs need Cal to get off their asses and win one or both against USC today and tomorrow.

    2-0 Prophylactics right now

  17. Cal wins 7-5. Cal, USC and Arizona St now all with 10 losses. Beavs end the weekend all alone in 2nd place. Beat the ducks Tuesday first, get a series win against Cal next weekend should be enough to secure 2nd

  18. depending on which site you look at, Beavs anywhere from 29-33 in RPI. Going to have to be around 20 or better to have a shot at hosting one would think

    • Yes they are. We are in line 2nd place and are playing our best ball the past few weeks. 3 of 4 should be enough but it wouldn’t be 100% certain. Win all 4 and it is a slam dunk we host. Pac-12 will be pushing for us to host with even 3 so I like our chances. Finish these last games strong and this team definitely deserves it. Goss Stadium is a great host site and the committee knows how well we support our team and love baseball in the Beaver State.

      • It is not a slam dunk even if the Beavs go 4-0 this week. Washington finished 2nd last year and got shipped to Nashville. RPI needs to improve to have a realistic chance

      • And we’re becoming a basketball school. Back when cool coach Robinson the savior started steering this ship, we couldnt even win a game! He single handedly took us as we were and turned our rough and tumble outcasts into Hall of fame players like J Cunningham, BJ Burton and Roberto N — some if the best to EVER do it!

Now all the kids that grew up idolizing those stars will sign with OSU because of what Robinson did by rolling up his sleeves and punching the clock, just like you and me!

          • Jacqui, don’t pee your panties cause somebody writing shit about Obama’s Bro-in-law. For most of us the Craig’s comment was tongue in cheek, your comment was just dick in mouth.

          • Had nothing to do with my response. What was written simply made no sense.

If I were to make it political, then I would push beyond scathing for a right-wing corporatist like Obama. So your retort makes little to zero sense as well.

But then that was all the point of your retort anyway. So there’s that.

      • The Beav’s RPI won’t get into the top 20, maybe not even the top 25 with a sweep.

I don’t see how they can pass a team in front of them to host a regional with that RPI rank. What teams could they pass that’s in line to host a regional?

        • Iowa is slated to be a host right now and they’re 29th in RPI, two ahead of the Beavers. A series win or sweep over Cal puts the Beavers in at least mid 20’s and a chance to steal that final hosting spot and Iowa has the Big Ten Tournament. A slip up from them and you never know. Not likely to host but definitely still a shot.

  19. I have a better solution. Instead of adding teams, get rid of conference post season tournaments. The regular season conference champion is awarded the auto bid. Then we don’t have these ridiculous teams that come in with losing or sub par records because they got hot for one weekend. The entire regular season finish should hold the most weight. Not because one team had one great weekend. The RPI is going to continue being a joke as long as teams from the southeast can continue to schedule cream puffs and not travel for away games unless they are penalized for doing so. The Pac-12 has as many CWS titles in the last 10 years as the SEC yet every year the SEC and ACC iare given more at large berths than any other conference. Explain that one

    http://www.d1baseball.com/the-buzz/an-idea-for-expanding-the-tournament/

    • Conference tournaments can be fun but it doesn’t give us the best 64 teams in the field. Campbell lost in their conference title game two years ago and missed out cause the schedule was weak. I thought they were definitely a top 30 or so team. Conference tourney cost them a spot in regionals. Baseball is a sport where the best teams in the conference will be where they should be with 27-30 game schedules. The regular season conference winner should always be given an automatic berth to regionals. Ridiculous that it isn’t the case already. Pac-12 has it the way it should be.

    • Yeah, I saw that during the game, the announcers couldn’t stop the knob slobbing long enough to mention that it was illegal. I can’t believe they drew that play up.

      • It is interesting. More subtle would have been if it was just a forward hand-off. That would still make it illegal, but at least I can see how someone might be briefly confused as to why.

      • There are two blatant holds in the collection of plays..one classic duck hold where the play bounces wide to the right, and one on the return…dude tackled a would-be tackler.

    • Stop whining, under amended rule 3.24, receivers for the University of Oregon are allowed to hook, grab and hold linebackers, cornerbacks and safeties because it looks cool and allows their offense to score lots of points which leads to BCS bowl games and much exposure and filthy lucre for the league.

  20. It didn’t dawn on the idiot announcers that it was two forward passes on the same play? Nice….maybe I don’t want the P-12 Network after all!

And I didn’t notice, did the refs let the play stand?

  21. Good news/Bad news from ESPN baseball scouts – baseball commit, Cadyn Grenier.

“Bishop Gorman SS Cadyn Grenier has moved up boards and could go as high as the second round. The Oregon State commit has good bat speed and hand-eye coordination and makes lots of loud, hard contact for someone who’s only 5-foot-10. He loads his hands high, resulting in either a very linear bat path or a downward sloping one, something I’d change in pro ball to create more loft in his swing. He uses his lower half in a way similar to Corey Seager — though he doesn’t have that kind of explosiveness — taking a big stride but remaining flexible in his lower half to maintain his balance.

He can move the bat around the zone a bit, too. I think he’s got a good chance to hit in pro ball with some adjustments and I believe the legs and hands to play shortstop should be there as well. Scouts are only concerned that a lack of arm strength might force a move to second base. If it does, how much power is Grenier going to have at maturity and will it play at second where the offensive standard is higher than it is at shortstop?”

Guys drafted in the first few rounds tend to turn pro so it seems like he won’t suit up for the Beavs next fall.

  22. from the twitterverse links above

Our sources tell us former Utah state quarterback Darell Garretson is headed to Oregon state. #gobeavs #usuaggies
    Retweeted by BeavRecruiting

    Anyone know anything about him?

    • Started several games for them the last couple years. Missed the rest of last season with a wrist injury.
Saw him play against NIU two years ago and he played well for a frosh.

    • i checked out one of his games a month ago when he was first rumored. look for the BYU/Utah St game he started in place of Keeton. He’s mostly pro-style, but showed the ability to use his legs to get downfield on a few occasions. He was on fire in that game though and didn’t need to run. I liked what I saw. Also, as mentioned below, he’d have to sit a year.

        • If you can find the full game video, its pretty impressive. It used to be available free through some BYu TV site i found, but for some reason i’m having trouble finding it again.

          • I bet it is, and I’d watch it if anyone can find it, but I’ve seen enough with those highlights. He threw the deep ball, deep out, short slants etc, all with proper velocity, height, etc for the respective throw. He just looks really good. Considering he had interest from Duke and other good schools, you have to believe he’s smart, too. My only issue is he can’t play this year, and I can see him complicating the picture next year, which is a good problem to have, but could also have some ripple effects.

Our recruiting twitter handle has almost 1,500 people? That is insane growth. Maybe start doing a #angrybeavs.com after each tweet so we get that massive influx of readers.

          • Found it. If i remember correctly, he starts out a little shake but really finds his groove as the game goes on. Also, they didnt go dual threat hardly at all.

            http://www.byutv.org/watch/17a2f6e4-b774-4415-8ebf-b467df87f8cc/football-utah-state-vs-byu-100314

also, regarding the tweet handle, i have a few ideas i’ll email you later to help bring in more readers to the site. It’s been growing really well, but at least half of the followers are recruits who probably wouldnt become regular readers.

          • I’m guessing that he didn’t want to waste another year behind Keeton and we don’t really know if Collins can handle the passing game at the P-12 level yet. He has a relationship with the head coach, saves a year and will be in the mix in 2016. In what I’ve seen of Collins, I don’t know how he stays injury free during his career unless he grows up in a hurry.

    • I fail to understand why any institution would hire Charlies Weiss to coach anything; not even at the YMCA. The thought of him directing kids/athletes to be tough, be strong, work hard, blah, blah, would be amusing if it weren’t so ludicrous.

  23. 7-2 Cal. Looking like the Bears will be tied for 3rd with ASU, 1/2 game back of the Beavs after tonight. USC would be 1-1/2 games back in 5th

  24. Cal wins 7-2. Need a series win over them to secure 2nd place. I don’t see ASU or USC sweeping the other next weekend. Too much parity between these 4 teams. But first, buttfuck the ducks!

    • I love this. At best, starting Qb. At worst, he provides depth and knowledge of the system. Collins will have to remain on his toes and earn the job.

    • I like how they say he’s going to walk on with the hope of earning a scholarship. I really doubt the kid transferred out of a scholarship situation without a guaranteed scholarship spot to land.

  25. Rumor is Andersen news at 9 am is that Oregon State will be one of 2 teams featured on The Drive this year. Andersen sure mows how to raise the bar! Can’t wait. Very excited about this news.

      • Extra weekly behind the scenes coverage of OSU every week practicing, before, during and after games if we are selected. Believe an hour long show and we would get half of it every week. Great way to get to know this staff much better in Year 1 and get national focus on the program all season.

        • The extra HD coverage will be cool for fans, but does it really pull “national” focus? Who outside of Oregon and Utah is going to go out of their way to watch the Pac12 network?

          • that gets a downvote? it’s just a question.

it does look like a good opportunity for Andersen to sell his program to potential recruits, but is the pac 12 network even available outside of the major west coast markets? Like will florida or texas recruits have access to it?

          • Do people watch the SEC Network? Lots of people in Cali, Washington, Arizona and Colorado will see this. It’s some of the Pac-12’s very best programming during the season. Other markets like Chicago and DC get the Pac-12 Network just like I have SECNetwork on Dish. Those that like the Pac-12 brand of football and its coaches will tune in and see a gutsy program clawing its way forward. It is good exposure and will help recruiting as players will see what it is like to play for Andersen and Oregon State.

          • that’s what i was wondering. i didn’t think the pac-12 network was even available outside of LA/Phoenix/SLC/Bay area/Oregon/Utah/Colorado/Washington. Nice that people outside those areas will have access to it.

I did see one episode of the Drive with ASU a year or two ago. It’s pretty well done. Just too bad they had to go with 2 teams this year, but I’m assuming it’s all because those are 2 of their smaller markets so they needed to stretch their audience.

          • I expect viewership will be good this year. There are a lot of storylines between Oregon State and Utah and the good part from OSU’s perspective is that some coaches left that state to come here. When these two teams collide it will be fun to watch. Great exposure for this team and especially guys like Seth Collins, Bolden, Lucas and Hawkins. Sitake’s defense will also get prime focus.

          • The running backs too. Chris Brown will join Storm Woods as a household name in the Northwest. Expect some great things from him this year.

      • The Drive is sort of like the NFL Hard Knocks combined with NFL Films but without all the cursing. The show is about a week behind. Shows practice stuff and in game sound features.

  26. ITS OFFICIAL! Two teams on “The Drive” this football season are Oregon State and Utah. This rivalry just got real!

  27. I just got around to listening to the Jim Rome show with the Andersen interview. Anybody know if Rome actually stayed in Corvallis so they could have dinner together?

  28. The committee wants at least two regionals in the West. So how No. 15 USC (RPI: 23) and Cal State Fullerton (RPI: 29) fare this weekend should help determine OSU’s fate. The Trojans host No. 16 Arizona State (RPI: 32), while the Titans host Long Beach State (RPI: 73).

Therein lies the problem. Why should the west coast only get 2 while the southeast gets the other 14? The 2nd place ACC and SEC teams will be hosting regionals. So why does the Pac-12 and the rest of the west coast get the screw job?

    http://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/index.ssf/2015/05/taking_stock_of_oregon_state_b_1.html#incart_river

  29. Tweedt gives up a single and double but gets out of the first with no damage done. Anyone else see the graphic Tweedt is 5-0 with a 1.45 ERA as a starter? But an ERA over 7 coming out of the pen

  30. What’s up with the Michelle Pfeiffer racing stripe on the Beaver mound? Do you like it or does it look better bare?

  31. quack called back for leaning into pitch

The ball was probably sucked in by Horton’s gravitational field but Karaviotis was in the way

  32. whiskey’s wiki edit is still up… shows how much people pay attention to Stanford sports

Let’s wait for Schnell or Goe to write a hard-hitting expose trying to investigate why OSU bought Stanford’s stadium

  33. Mike Parker just said Oregon is a good team. Clearly he’s had a long day because scoring runs against our bullpen does not make you a good team

  34. 3 OSU errors this inning and Beavers are trying to give this one away. Would have skunked them if the throw to first that started it was 2 more inches on line.

  35. It’s one thing losing to the toilet seats when it’s a transition year for us in football or basketball because those are more money driven sports anyway.

But baseball? We should be consistently kicking their ass in this. They made their team out of spite and threw money at it. No baseball culture. No fan support. No respect in the Northwest. No passion invested in the rivalry (we have way more Oregon/Wash kids). Fat ass coach. It should be natural order that they don’t beat OSU in baseball. WTF is up with this inning?

  36. my god, when it rains it pours with this team. 3 fucking errors in one inning follows no errors last weekend and none thru 7 tonight. This inning should be over already

    • The Toledo Hauler strikes. Beavs get out of it. 2-2 going to the last of the 8th. Heart of the order coming up. Need a run here guys!

  37. Willing to move Casey up in the AD race if he gets this win. Otherwise might have to move him down a small notch. This game was in the bag. Would not be good to lose it.

  38. Beavs going to blow this one. I’m a moderate lean atleast for an external AD. Have to capitalize. Stansbury or perhaps someone from the professional sports GM offices are potential options.

    • Hard to say if Stansbury would really do enough to raise the bar. Part of me thinks by being exposed to the school while it underperformed in some sports he might become too comfortable with small gains. May take an external shaker upper who will hold coaches accountable if they aren’t reaching enough success. Would like to see an aggressive campaign for Reser as well that tries to maximize our position for the next 20 years in this league. Ray better be pursuing a talented and savvy AD. What do you think Ray’s voice is in comparison to the committee he has set up. Is he only the final approval? I ask as I didn’t see his name on the committee. Ray should be involved to some extent on determining who will most raise the bar for excellence at Oregon State. This is a big hire.

    • he’s a close 2nd. Even I can admit he’s pretty damn good. Wish the Beavs had a lock down closer like that

    • New Era in most of the Beaver Major Sports. How much longer should Parker calling games? Seems like it might be best of we went a new direction in a couple years. He feels part of the old guard that is gone or out very soon like BDC. I get he likes his Beavers but I think we could elevate the football experience especially with a more confident and swaggier announcer.

      • why is he sounding like we need to take away his shoe laces because he sounds like he is on suicide watch. At least that is what most of the game he call sounds like when the beavers are losing

  39. You’re just not going to win very often striking out 14 times. Put the damn ball in play. Ducks really needed this win and got it. It wasn’t life or death for the Beavs and they kind of played like it. Shit, I really don’t want to see the Ducks make the playoffs.

    • I’m assuming this is from the Olive article… picked up off the ESPN recap of the same piece:

Well, the first week that Gary Andersen was on the job he called me just to introduce himself. In (the decade-plus I’ve been at my high school) I never got a call from Mike Riley, so I thought that was kind of cool.

          • Just read it. I don’t see how 1+1 equals bitter. Nikegon’s coaches could have shown up and talked to the coach before now. Their actions say they were (and still are) big-timing his kids for years now. That’s not good or bad.

            Is it?

It’s just their recruiting philosophy. It’s hard to argue they haven’t been successful finding players who will fit their system using this same philosophy. Maybe Coach D runs a pro set offense, and his kids don’t translate as well to the spread option on the next level. Maybe speed is the only factor they evaluate, and the Oregon kids are dismissed in evaluations because their a couple hundredths slower.

But for whatever reason they choose to big-time a coach and a school, it’s still big-timing.

  40. Some free advertising for @beavrecruiting. Beavs top O-line target Michael Eletise tagged the account in some artwork featuring him as some Hulk/Beaver football hybrid.
Hope the Beavs can get this guy. As talented as Isaac Seumalo. Has a ton of offers. Cousins with 2015 commit Elu Aydon.

Now this is some amazing art!! Mahalo!! @BeavRecruiting #WeDamBeavs #BuildTheDam http://t.co/zAT4eyZntC

  41. “Well, the first week that Gary Andersen was on the job he called me just to introduce himself. In (the decade-plus I’ve been at my high school) I never got a call from Mike Riley, so I thought that was kind of cool. They had a coach come by (recently), just kind of making the rounds, which I think is a good move. You need to get in the schools and at least act like you’re interested.”
