  1. Strike ’em out, Throw ’em out!! Beautiful play all around to end the t4, 0-0
Moore still has faced the minimum, giving up one hit.

  2. Howard walks with one out b7, Jefferies, at 95 pitches, is about at his usual limit, let’s see how much farther he can go.
EDIT: Dang! Jefferies not too tired to make a very nice play on that come backer, 2 outs, Howard on 2nd.
    And now Jefferies is pulled.

    • You said it, Big Mo with 11 K’s, 61 strikes out of 88TP, and has faced the minimum due to two DP’s.
Little Mo having the hand evaluated next week, may be available for post season as originally hoped.

  3. Moore with a complete game 2 hit shutout, Beavs win 4-0. Moore was absolutely dominant. One of his best games as a Beav

  4. Still hoping with a dominating sweep of Cal, Oregon State can host a regional. Any idea what other factors would work in our favor. If we sweep Cal, at minimum we deserve the easiest #2 setup in the nation. Pac-12 is most dominating conference for baseball titles over the last decade yet we have to lose hosting rights so SEC and ACC can have baked in advantage. Was rooting for the Pac-16 just so we could regularly stomp those guys in head to head matchups. As is they play us as little as possible.

    • last 10 years. CWS titles, SEC – 4, Pac-12 – 4, ACC – 0. The other two were Texas and Fresno St

    • and you are correct. It certainly is a much easier path to Omaha when you get to host a regional and or SR. Thus the built in advantage of the ACC and SEC

    • Possible factors in the Beavs favor for being a host if they can win tomorrow: 1-Finish second in the PAC, 2-RPI under 30, 3-Corvallis/Goss!, 4-Casey!
Some say the powers that be would like to have a host in the NW.

        • I think that’s where the Goss/Casey thing makes OSU different from UW, also, with OSU hosting last year UW would have been the second NW team to host…not likely.

      • If SC wins the Beavs likely finish 2nd in the PAC. But, 9-3 ASU now; probably have to wait for tomorrow for a SC win.
        Key for Beavs remains….KEEP WINNING!

        • I can’t see ASSU sweeping SC on the road. One more win tomorrow should be good enough to lock down 2nd place. Will it be good enough to host a regional? I don’t know but the beavs will certainly be in the discussion. We’ll find out Monday morning.

          • No waiting for Monday:
Per Connor, ” The 16 regional sites will be announced Sunday at 6 p.m. Pacific Time via ESPN’s Bottom Line”

  5. Beavs win, ucks lose, only other thing needed is an SC victory, lacking that, gotta settle for this tweet by Schnell

“Best NYC moment so far: sweet talking @magnoliabakery to stay open late for me & @Gina_Lehe. Major score.”

  6. a few tweets earlier from Jason Quick…………………..

“Spent this week around Oregon St. baseball and have three stories in works. Favorite insight came from Caleb Hamilton, who just homered.”

“Hamilton says Pat Casey sends the Beavers’ hitters to the plate with one word in their mind: NOPE. Stands for Nuts on PlatE.”

“In other words, Beavers hitters put manhood on plate and challenge pitcher to beat them. Love it. Sums up the spirit and intensity of Casey”

        • I’m basing this off 10 years of Quick’s voodoo. The Memphis loss was a given after Matthews went down ( which was probably the night Quick decided to cover basketball again)

          • The Memphis series loss was inevitable even with Matthews. Grizz were a bad match up. Blazers are way too soft and need to get more physical players to compete in the ever tough western conference. But at least your team has made the playoffs. Mine has sunk so far into oblivion everyone else is laughing at them. One more year of suckness than Kobe is off the books. Yes, I’m a lakers fan. Have been since I was little in the 1980’s. It’s a long story but the jist of it is my father was a referee in the Eugene area and reffed some games where there was this kid who was head and shoulders better than everyone else. He went on to BYU and eventually a long NBA career. Dude’s name was Danny Ainge. My father was a celtics fan because of him. To spite him I started rooting for Magic and the lakers when those two teams seemed to meet every year in the finals. Back to reality after that stroll down amnesia lane. Houston/GS series is the finals. Neither Cantlanta or Cleveland would beat either team in a 7 game series. The Cavs maybe if they were healthy. No Love and Irving hurt, not happening. I’m pulling for GS. They’re a fun team to watch

          • NBA is a war of attrition. Healthiest team at the end wins. Agree Portland needs more toughness.
Who do you want the Lakers to grab at #2? Okafor? Would be tough to pass up.

          • they really don’t need Okafor or the dude from Kentucky IMO. They picked up PF Julius Randle last draft who played in one game before breaking his leg. They need a shooting guard more than anything IMO. Nick Young is way too streaky and personally I don’t care for his attitude. Jordan Clarkson proved he can play the point this season and he should continue to improve. I am unaware right now of any decent shooting guards high in the draft. I’m not sold on D’Angelo Russell from tOSU. Whoever they decide to draft, they need to let next year go as well and build a team around that pick, Randle and Clarkson. Kobe is done. Let him ride out the last year of his contract, then go after some mid level free agents to surround the aforementioned 3.

After the fact, I might attempt to trade down and get another first round pick and take RJ Hunter from Georgia St. But if they don’t, yes hope Minny takes the guy from KY and get Okafor. Lakers don’t need another PF.

You will or won’t believe this. There is another beaver site that I was banned from years ago. I had this discussion when the Blazers had the No. 2 pick several years ago. Durant or Oden? Whoever the Sonics don’t take. I said then, the Blazers don’t need either. What they needed was a point guard. I would trade down and take Mike Conley Jr. They all laughed at me. What happens a few years later? Blazers get that PG they desperately needed in Damian Lillard. And Conley Jr has worked out pretty well for the Grizz. But what do I know?

          • I’m not sold on Towns for a top ten pick. I don’t think he’ll be as good as Joel Przybilla. That’s a pretty high bar for a big. Towns won’t meet it.

Kobe was fried five years ago… and has always been a boring ball-hog. Okafor is smooth. Guards are a dime a dozen. Once again, the Lakers end up with a top pick… same old same old… except that Jerry is running another team now… one that will win a championship this year.

          • “Once again, the Lakers end up with a top pick… same old same old”

Other than the last two years please tell the group the other years the lakers ended up in the draft lottery with a top pick. We’ll wait while you look it up

          • It was before the lottery. The Lakers don’t do it often, but they end up with a top pick which gets them a top player or two.

But you’re right. These last few years have been different. They actually just suck. Prior top picks were lucky and got them transcendent players. Boston got some of them as well back in the 80’s. It’s scary to think of how good they might have been if Bias didn’t die. And San Antonio wins zero championships if David Robinson doesn’t miss a season due to injury.

That’s the same old same old of which I speak. Traditional teams just seem to have a little more luck than the rest.

          • yes they do. How are the Knicks doing lately? I haven’t been paying attention. You are 100% correct about the Spurs. They tanked one season when the Admiral got hurt and parlayed that into Tim Duncan. I’m not against tanking to land a top 5 lottery pick

  7. I’m going to pretend I didn’t see that. Tough situation to put you in, mate.

And I CAN APRECIATE the small details, so don’t get me wrong ! Daughter married a chinese guy so I ask you: What’s left?

      • I think he’s just a lost Duck… spewing Duck logic.

I’ve seen it before. Ducks wander out in the road… looking for scraps… paying attention to nothing. Nobody runs them over. They’re just an annoyance everyone sees and avoids until their owner wanders out and herds them back to their pen.

It’s not easy being dumb as a Duck.

      • Here’s an idea. Let’s take Ducky’s post above and post it on eSchmuck. Then when those stupids drop the banhammer on their own, we can all have a giggle.

  8. I just watched the Wisconsin spring game. People are saying Hornibrook outplayed Kafentzis? Not in the spring game at least. I’d be pretty bummed if that guy was our QB.

Seth Collins is far more impressive than either Hornibrook or Kafentzis though.

  9. Rumor is there is a chance Corvallis could host a regional but Oregon State would be a #2 seed. Seems like a fair and appropriate solution for where this team deserves to land. Check out the Baseball America story below.

    http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/projected-field-64-may-19/

Otherwise it looks like the Champagne Regional but with a sweep of California and dominating them last night OSU deserves what Baseball America is predicting. Hope the Pac-12 shows some flex for Oregon State and pushes for this like a premier baseball power conference deserves.

    • UCSB would be #1 and get to stay on the west coast but because their facility can’t host a regional properly, Corvallis gets to host. I like it. OSU and the Pac-12 deserve it.

    • Did you notice the Duck fan “Darryn” in the comments section arguing for a bid? Funny, no mention of the Quacks anywhere in this national article, yet The Oregonian still hasn’t given up either. Even after the loss last night, the “win the series” theory is still being pumped out there. I hope UCLA wins tonight and shuts this up.

      • The reason the Oregonian staff’s stories about Oregon are so poorly written is because they’re writing one handed, while the other hand is busy furiously masturbating.

    • That prediction was before we lost to the Ducks. I thought because of that there’s little to no chance that will happen.

      • I disagree because we are a #2 seed which is the worse we will do. For the article to be assuming 4 straight wins to add to the 10 win or 10 of 11 streak we were already on and then only dish out a #2 seed seems unlikely as most pundits rightly figured it would give us a #1 seed and host. Most likely this scenario was based on winning 3 of 4 because then it fits like a glove.

Probably they thought we would beat Oregon and win 2 of 3 over Cal for the series win. How we get those 3 wins shouldn’t be much of a factor and especially since Cal has the better team. Hosting in Corvallis as a #2 with UCSB a #1 fits the teams accomplishments this year if we sweep Cal.

  10. A little advice for Wazzu baseball players:

Those white things on the base paths… those are good things to be touching when the other team has the ball in the field of play.

  11. Chris Paul. Fat ass with a porn stache slams his helmet to the ground after grounding into DP. Didn’t some duck douche do that 2 years ago?

  12. Gretler with a bases loaded double off the wall plates two, Donahue singles up the middle to plate two more. 7-0 Beavs now in the 8th.

  13. I think Corvallis is going to be selected as a host. 11-0 skunking of Cal so far in the first 2 games of the series and still time to add more. The Northwest region of the country ought to and I believe will earn the host selection. Pack Goss tomorrow because somwhere around the 6th inning there could be a large roar when the regional hosts are officially announced.

  14. Appears the final host will come down to Cal State Fullerton and Oregon State with UCSB blowing their chance this weekend with a terrible series loss. If that’s the case then the Beavers should have the advantage. Beavers are 8-5 vs RPI top 50 with a chance to make it 9-5 tomorrow. Fullerton is 8-12. Beavers are 17-12 vs RPI top 100 and Fullerton is 17-16. The Beavers should have upper hand with their body of work but no clue if they’ll actually get rewarded

        • Fullerton also has someone on the west coast region committee

          Dan Guerrero, chair, UCLA Pac-12
Joel Erdmann, vice chair, South Alabama Sun Belt
Mike Batesole Fresno State Mountain West
          Dave Esquer California Pac-12
          Eric Madsen Utah Valley WAC
Jeff Mitchell Santa Clara West Coast
Rick Vanderhook Cal State Fullerton Big West

  15. Holy shit! Golden St just bent Houston over and gave them the buttfuck of all buttfucks. 115-80 final

  16. Beavs have now beaten Stanford 11 straight times and Cal 12 in a row. The Bay Area schools continue to be the beavs bitches!

    • Makes a Corvallis Regional all the more essential. Could be Casey’s final farewell at home. He deserves it and the Oregon State players have certainly earned it. Casey would be a great AD and the timing with Brosius is right. Casey can give 6 or 7 outstanding years as the Beavers AD while he still has plenty of energy and will get to be the man who finishes Reser into a Pac-12 gem of a venue. I trust he will have all the major sports competing amongst the best and Brosius is a worthy successor to carry the flame and tradition of proud Beaver Baseball forward.

    • I could go for a major league world series mvp ( who happened to go to the same jr. highschool as me ) as our next coach if Casey is indeed wanting to try his hand as an AD.

  17. Ducks beat UCLA in extra innings and the dumbfucks on Twitter don’t even get the final score right lol. You really can’t fix stupid

  18. Ducks beating UCLA in extra innings just raised OSU’s RPI and IMHO our odds of hosting a regional are now 66% or better. We absolutely destroyed Cal the last two games and it was a loud statement when it mattered most. OSU finished the last month incredibly strong in the Pac-12 and were the victors of their final 6 series.

    • Looking at Boydsworld.com etc. our rpi rank didn’t budge despite Beavs and ducks win. So Fuck the Duck, I hope they lose lose lose.

  19. Ending up #2 in the deep Pac-12 conference and the 1-2 punch of maximum statements to start the weekend by dominating Cal should be enough. Can’t see the Pac-12 having its #2 team denied hosting in consecutive years. Scott is the nation’s highest paid commissioner and how many teams does the SEC have hosting? Four? If he doesn’t fight hard enough for a 2nd team again then his days will be numbered. I think OSU gets the hosting bid.

  20. I hope the Beavs get a nice seeding, but what an achievement overall. I don’t think many us of thought they would finish second in the league and possibly finish with just 9 losses. Not to be greedy, but you take away the 4 or 5 meltdown games and you’re talking a battle for first place. No matter the post-season, it has been a very impressive season.

  21. PBH home after a month in Costa Rica…any of you thinking of checking it out I have some thoughts would be willing to share. Great travel destination.

So… reviewed old threads etc. generally up to speed, BDC out, baseball in… what else is going on? JB

    • So you’ll take credit for your pre-season prediction (a good one) but what about your mid season ban of watching the team play and questioning Casey?

      • What about it?

I couldn’t watch Gabe Clark hit. It’s really that simple. Casey deserved to be questioned, but I knew nobody wanted to hear it, and I figured they’d wind up with a good record, so it was best to just step away.

  22. You’re going to ban watching what I assume is your favorite team over one guy? I imagine being a sports fan is pretty frustrating for you

    • Where have you been for the last month? There have been less silly picks to nit… nits to pick… knits to knit… while you’ve been gone.

    • Correct. It’s easy to follow the box scores and rankings, without the frustration of watching Gabe Clark try to hit a ball. It works for me. If you can watch that guy, then do it. Once the post-season begins I’ll watch despite Clark.

Not watching also frees up 3 hours to do more productive things, so there’s that, too.

      • As I said, being a sports fan sounds hard for you. Every team in every sport has someone who’s not good, struggling, whatever…

          • So what team do you follow that has nobody that struggles? Maybe you truly are smarter than us all. Every team I follow has somebody… And you stopped watching a 2nd place team due to one guy. Are you that much of a front runner? Please enlighten us

          • Why do you care so much what I watch? It’s weird.
I’m not watching a team with Gabe Clark in the lineup unless that team makes the post-season. I made this decision during the year, and you seem obsessed with it.

The same thing happened with Casper last year. Casey was smart enough not to play him, so I was able to watch.

          • How? You always have these great theories but rarely explain yourself. Example being you never answered what team you’ve ever seen that doesn’t have someone struggling or not good… So you can’t watch Pat Casey’s team. A hall of fame coach. An over-achieving young, 2nd place team. I can’t imagine how you feel on down years.

          • How? Because I have run the most hardcore fan site since 2008. Yet, you just wrote I’m not a Beaver fan.

There’s something wrong with your cognition. I don’t have the time or patience to figure it out.

          • angry@angry, maybe the issue you have originates with you, and you’re definition of a “beaver fan”. I might sometimes take issue with someone who reaches a point where they can’t watch their team anymore, but when I say that person is no longer a fan, that’s my projection. When I’m a fan of a team, I watch every game I can, all the way through, even if my team is getting stomped or winning a blow out. Not every other fan does this, but it doesn’t make them less of a fan.

          • Yeah, Bend, I just don’t want to make sports a large % of my life, because it’s vicarious rather than active living. I’d rather play baseball than watch someone else play it, for example.

I’d guess I want the Beavs to win a baseball title just as much as you and angry@angry. I just don’t feel any obligation as a fan. I feel the opposite: like they have the obligation to put out a product that makes me/people want to watch. And Gabe Clark (and Hamilton, let’s not forget him) does not make me want to watch.

          • Correction: He stopped watching a sixth place team. Once the player in question was benched, they worked their way up to a second place team.

But again, that was over a month ago. You’ve been gone for a while… possibly in Costa Rica. And now you choose this subject at this time to lose reason?

          • Thanks for making that distinction.

This dude is just obsessed with what I watch. I mean, is he not a Beaver fan because he doesn’t watch gymnastics? Come on

It’s really unfortunate Casey continued to put out bad lineups. He lost me. Sounds like the lineups got better over time, but I already tuned out. That’s my prerogative and means nothing except face value I already explained to this guy.

          • You just wrote Casey lost you, and you had tuned out. Yet when I write that you don’t watch Beaver baseball… You get all pissed. All I’m trying to say is that if Casey loses you, it’s only downhill from here man. He’s a great coach. Quite possible the best the Beavers will ever have

          • He’s a great coach. Quite possible the best the Beavers will ever have

Well yeah, but that doesn’t mean playing Clark was the right decision.

  23. Worse than a supposed fan of the program claiming its unwatchable when they finish 2nd in possibly the toughest conference? That’s pretty out there

  24. He plays for the Beavers… Meaning you didn’t watch the Beavers. The Beavers finished 2nd. You didn’t watch. What am I missing?

    • What you are missing is I never said the program is unwatchable, yet that’s what you wrote. Again, I said Gabe Clark is unwatchable.

Unless you think Gabe Clark = The Beavers Program, you are butchering logic.

      • Sooo…. You watch, then shut off when Clark gets to the plate? This is getting close to that 1+1 might not equal 2 that you wrote. you said you didn’t watch, cuz of Clark. Which I believed meant that you don’t watch at all.

      • This is a stupid debate. Clark has only been coming up in swing away situations lately anyways, which I am ok with. But jumping on a guy who has dedicated a an 8+ year blog to better the Beavs for not being a fan. Angry@angry is delusional and I highly doubt he has watched all the games this season either.

        • I appreciate the site for fans. I haven’t watched every game. But when work schedule permits, I watch, because I love the Beavers. I’m also aware that we will have much worse players than Clark. And much worse years than this year. To say you won’t watch because of one guy during a pretty successful season is crazy to me. It loses credibility

  25. Larry Scott’s balls are on the line tonight. I think OSU will earn the host bid with Corvallis being named a Regional. Can’t imagine how Scott could look any of the university presidents in the eye earning what he does when the SEC is expected to earn 4 host sites. Only getting 2 should be bad enough for disparity. A single host is laughable for a conference as strong as the Pac-12. Having that happen in consecutive years should start serious discussions about Scott being let go. Can’t have all the pomp without the circumstance.

    • It goes in cycles. We hosted 3 regionals in 2013 and 4 in 2012. Last year, UW only has itself to blame, dropping their last 2 series. Looking at RPI, nobody but UCLA deserves to host. I still think we will host, but it has nothing to do with Larry Scott if we don’t.

      • Oregon State finished on a war path winning their final 6 conference series so we are red hot when it matters most. We also are likely to get Morrison back during the Regional and the committee should consider that in addition to how well Corvallis would shine as a host site. Banners will be overflowing as usual and the conference has most titles in last decade tied with the SEC. All that bodes in the Beavers favor for Corvallis to be selected to host a Regional.

    • Scott’s already failing in my eye regarding regional selection. How can they choose the host sites before PAC 12 play ends today? Supposedly P12 spots are in play and long ago they decide they must announce host sites before the conclusion of our games. East is all that matters eh Scottie?

  26. lots of autobids being taken today by underdogs in conference tournaments. Some teams may get squeezed out. The Boregonian continues to spew the narrative that the ducks are still in play. Not with an RPI of 62 they aren’t

    • Between being selected as either the 15th or 16th host site I don’t care. I will say that if Oregon State played CSF 10 times on a neutral field I feel quite confident we would beat them 7 or 8 times out of the 10. To me the odds are good OSU will be named a Regional host. Pac-12 is too good not to reward the Beavers’ very strong finish of their regular season.

  27. Watching the Oregon/UCLA game, and it’s not even funny how many annoying fans they have that you can hear on TV.

  28. Pac12 Networks are run by bumbling idiots. I have 4 P12 channels here in the bay area. And beacuse of extra innings i dont get the game i want. Instead i get two games i dont want twice. Ucla, stanford, more ucla, more stanford. Dumb and Dumber

  29. 2-0 Cal in the 4th. Expert has looked rather meh today. PC said during an interview this inning the bullpen will be getting some innings today

  30. Ducks win in the 11th. The lone positive is that it helps Oregon State’s RPI and already strong claim to host a Regional as the Pac-12’s 2nd place finisher. Oddly it may have just sealed Corvallis as a host site.

    • I still doubt that will be enough for them to sneak in. Texas won the Big-12 tournament today with a record of 29-25. They weren’t getting in otherwise. Meechicken did the same in the B1G tournament. So bids are being eaten up by conference tournament winners that wouldn’t have gotten in otherwise. Still waiting to see updated RPI since their game just ended. My bet is they wind up as one of the first four out. If they played in the ACC or SEC, they’d be in

    • Casey new this is a give away game. All regional consequences are out the window. P12 #2 is secured. Committee has already decided placements before this game. Good call in seeing what the second/third tier players can do.

    • Virtually all teams out of the sun belt have gone to this type of surface. Grass fields are too expensive to maintain and play on early in the season.

  31. Hardly anyone will travel to Lake Elsinore. How does the Big West get two hosts and the Pac-12 only one??? Unbelievable. Larry Scott needs to be fired.

    • you got me. Absolute joke that the SEC gets 4, ACC 3, Big 12 2 and Big West 2 and the Pac only gets one. Pac-12 absolutely continues to get bent over and given tip, shaft and balls.

          • What’s he going to do, pay them off? I’m sure he lobbied for Pac-12 schools. There’s something fishy going on here with UCSB getting that regional in a far away location. I wouldn’t be surprised if we find out months from now there’s corruption with this one.

          • it’s already a farce when the SEC and ACC take 7 of the 16 regional host sites. It’s an easier path to Omaha. Is it any fucking wonder why those two conferences get more teams to Omaha? Just once I’d like to see 10 regionals in the west and those pussies have to come out here. Bet they’d fare about the same as west coast teams when they go out to the SE

          • What’s he going to do, pay them off? I’m sure he lobbied for Pac-12 schools. There’s something fishing going on here with UCSB getting that regional in a far away location. I wouldn’t be surprised if we find out months from now there’s corruption with this one.

        • If Scott wants to underperform the Big West in successfully pitching his teams then he can get paid Big West level pay instead of being the highest paid commissioner. He failed in his Pac-16 bid his first year which was the only time he was interesting. Now with that over he is completely predictable and not doing anything new so why are we paying him like he is the world’s greatest innovator? Getting no consideration as a major power conference and being overlooked for a 2nd Big West team that lost its final home series to a nobody is an embarrassment for this conference.

          • well, OSU did lose a home series to a pretty piss poor Cal-Poly team from the Big West. UCSB also had a higher RPI. So there is that.

    • Beavers got pretty much jobbed. UCSB had one series win over an RPI top 50 team all season and their only RPI top 50 wins were midweek games against USC’s 4th and 5th starters. They just lost a series to the 249th team in the RPI this past weekend. Beavers had better resume and played in far superior league. No way you can justify UCSB hosting over OSU especially at a site that’s nowhere near Santa Barbara.

      • It’s a disaster. Maybe it will result in change, because everyone seems to agree it’s a disaster. I bet USCB doesn’t even want to travel there.

  32. 16 host sites

    Tallahassee – FSU
    Stillwater _ Ok St
    Springfield – Missouri St
    Nashville – Vanderbilt
    Louisville – Louisville
    Los Angeles – UCLA
    Lake Elsinore – UCSB
    Houston – Houston
    Gainesville – Florida
    Fullerton – Fullerton
    Fort Worth – TCU
    Dallas – Dallas Baptist
    Miami – Miami
    College Station – Texas A&M
    Champaign – Illinois
    Baton Rouge – LSU

  33. In So Cal Lake Elsinore is known as Lake Afterbirth. It’s a shitty little town out of the way of everything and nobody is going to drive out there and watch those games. What a terrible decision, especially with a beautiful facility and strong fanbase primed to host in Corvallis. Mind boggling, maybe Larry Scott IS a dildo?

    • UC Irvine was hot at the end of the season. They rode that all the way to Omaha. If you host, your odds of winning are much higher.

      • Beavers were also playing crap ball at the end of the year too. Much better ball this year late in the season. Hosting is big. Much better chance at advancing. I really hope the Beavers get sent to the UCSB regional. Feel pretty good about them taking down UCSB. Knowing the committee they’ll probably get sent to Baton Rouge.

  34. 2 best places to land for the Beavs would be Lake Elsinore (175 miles away from Santa Barbara. I can’t imagine many will travel that far so UCSB won’t have much home field advantage) or Champaign. But that little voice in the back of my head says they’ll land somewhere in SEC country.

    • This should put a chip (more like a log) on their shoulder. I have a feeling they are going to destroy whomever they play.

  35. F it. Send us to Lake Afterbirth to take on the Gauchos. I hope we stomp them. Massari may even root for UCSB so screw him wanting to have a shot at AD. Let Casey go down there and whip em at Elsinore and if he wants to be AD let him and sign Brosius while we can.

  36. best comment I just got from a friend

“Pac-12 didn’t even get a courtesy spit from the NCAA selection committee before going in elbow deep”

    LMAO!

  37. So now the committee gets to place all the Pac teams selected within the same bracket. Make sure they have to elminate themselves in regional/super regional/first cws games.

    • teams from the same conference cannot be placed in the same regional. That is a rule. However, they can be paired in opposite regionals and potentially meet in the SR

  38. I’m glad Casey see the shitty reality of these selection committee disorders. He knew that today’s game didn’t mean jack shit and got some of the second/third tier guys some reps. Can’t wait to see the seedlings. I think this team is CWS bound.

    • True, the game didn’t mean much, but I’m not certain Parker’s blood pressure dropped at all. While he didn’t seem close to a heart attack each time the Beavs came up short, he still drove me crazy with his continual harping on the “unimportance” of the game and his hopes for the hosting slot.

I hope you’re right about the CWS and that Angry is right about the chip (log) which should be on the shoulders of the Beavs. It’s gonna be interesting to see how these guys respond, pretty sure Casey will do his part re: motivation and strategy; but it’s a balancing act with a young team.

As for the return of Morrison for the post season, is it realistic to think he’ll resume his hitting pace? That is the only thing I see separating him from Hamilton…they both have made good and bad plays on D.

      • I am nervous about that hitting pace as well. Hopefully Beavs start off so dominant early that Casey has some fiddle room to find the hot bats etc. I started watching the game once it finally came on P12 network. But once realizing the utter unimportance of this game, and seeing the lineup changes reflecting that point, I took my kid to the park instead. I didn’t hear Parker at all, he’s fun when Beavs are winning, but annoying when we are losing.

  39. Aaron Fitt and D1 baseball final projection has the Beavs as 2 seed in Fort Worth regional (TCU). Also has the ducks as the first team on the outside looking in. That bubble’s gotta be huge tonight to hold up the weight of Horton

      • Seems Horton lightened the load on that bubble by spewing some BS:
Part of his argument for inclusion in the field of 64, “”Simply, you take the last 15 games and what we’ve done there…You take 37 wins on the West Coast. You take a Pac-12 team that is 16-14, that’s not easy to do. ”

And, I’ll bet he said it with a straight face!
        Two whole games over .500??

If, as a 6th place team in the PAC, the ucks get in then Phil’s wallet is a bit lighter!

  40. It appears the committee placed a high value on RPI as the top 14 RPI teams are all hosting. The two that aren’t? UCSB (20th) and Fullerton (25th).

Also an interesting tweet from Steve Gress at the Gazette Times. I had completely forgotten but OSU originally had Missouri State on the schedule coming to Corvallis for 3 games. But a scheduling conflict either forced it to be moved to another year or cancelled completely. I am unsure which. But had that series actually happened (Missouri St 7th in RPI) more than likely the Beavs are hosting. Grambling was a last minute fill in to replace them. Removing a low RPI team and replacing them with a high RPI = Bad JuJu. Them’s the breaks when you play on the left coast sadly

      • no shit. Michigan St, which swept the ducks in Eugene and had a better RPI is left out. Explain that one NCAA committee

  41. Anyone know what time they are releasing their pre drawn seeding conclusions? I don’t wanna waste all day checking in.

  42. Speaking of logs (n chips), hopefully the entire team genuinely feels like Hamilton sounds in this quote from the G-T article:
“We’re excited,” said sophomore shortstop Caleb Hamilton. “It’s just another opportunity for this team to prove people wrong. Wherever we go we’re going to work our butts off and take it one game at a time.”

    OPPORTUNITY–PROVE–WORK–ONE AT A TIME……….words to live by!

  43. No matter what draw the beavs get I honestly don’t expect them to win a regional on the road. This is a young team. They certainly could win a regional though. The talent is there but the experience isn’t. Especially the pitching staff save for Andrew Moore. Next year however, I would expect bigger and better things and this team to contend. Here’s a list of draft eligible juniors and departing seniors……………….

Gabe Clark – Jr (draft eligible)
Dane Lund Sr (out of eligibility)
    Andrew Moore Jr (draft eligible)
Michael Howard Sr (out of eligibility)
    Travis Eckert Jr (draft eligible)
Clay Bauer Sr (out of eligibility)
    Austin Woodward Jr (draft eligible)
Zack Reser Sr (out of eligibility)
    Jeff Hendrix Jr (draft eligible)
    Joe Jansen Jr (draft eligible)

I see 3 names there that would be great to have return. Moore, Hendrix and Eckert (for his starting experience). The rest? You be the judge. Add in the incoming class and next year this team should be very good again.

  44. Does anyone remember what OSU’s RPI was in 2008, when they got snubbed by the committee the last time? I’m thinking there’s only one way the d-cks could get in, and yes, it’s because of money. It’ll be interesting to compare the two, and see what happens.

    • Does investigative journalism exist anymore? Someone should be on all the NCAA “inconsistency” *cough*

Instead we get people like Gina and Connor, who are fine, but they just regurgitate what they’re told. If I had the access that they do, we’d be getting to the bottom of things.

    • They were 59th in the RPI then. Wouldn’t exactly say they were snubbed. Oregon getting in is something I don’t completely hate. Their competition on the bubble wasn’t great and Oregon had some big series wins against UCSB on the road and against USC and Oregon State. If the Beavers don’t give the lead late in game 1 of their series and don’t blow the 6 run lead in game 3 of the series, Oregon doesn’t get in. I know a lot didn’t want them to make it but their resume stacked up well against bubble teams.

      • >If the Beavers don’t give the lead late in game 1 of their series and don’t blow the 6 run lead in game 3 of the series, Oregon doesn’t get in.

Yep, and maybe we’re hosting too.

All the bitching and moaning on here about the NCAA this and poor Beavers that is silly. Win more games and you get the results you want. I guarantee the team isn’t thinking about how hard they got fucked, at least not for long.

    • I don’t know what our RPI was, but we were 28-24, and 11-13 in conference, which is hardly a snub. We needed to be a lot better that year.

      • Thank you for clearing things up and helping refresh my memory. I feel better now, knowing it’s an apples to oranges comparison. The Beavers are still a surprise, especially with how they started out this season! Go Beavs!

      • Casey was pretty heated at the time. I thought back then the magic mark was at least 30 wins. If I remember correctly his argument was they had series wins over some good teams like Georgia and over #2 ASU in conference play, but he conveniently forgot about loss to Utah Valley and losing a series to last place Wazzu. UCLA made it in during one of those years with something like a 30-26 record. Must have had a decent RPI.

  45. Thanks for nothing NCAA committee. Sends OSU to Dallas Baptist (No. 1 RPI). Now DBU is overrated, but even if OSU can win this regional, they would potentially have to travel to Miami if I”m reading the bracket right. And yet the AZ and So Cal schools have short trips to LA, Fullerton, and UCSB. O-Live had an interesting article on a schedule change that might have hurt OSU’s RPI. Last fall they moved the cal poly series to a different weekend and had to cancel against Missouri St. Grambling St. was the replacement team.

Pac 12 is again getting some love – 6 teams get in, but only 1 host. These schools just need to go out and win to earn respect. FSU, LSU, Miami just show up and get all kinds love.

    • This story is getting so stale. Someone with clout needs to have the guts to stand up and call out the “bias”.

OSU got a harder bracket than Oregon, too.

      • How in the hell did Oregon even get in? They’re a #3 seed no less? This just adds salt to the wound, oregon beat OSU and every single men’s major sport this year. We’ve got nothing on them, and that sucks!

        • We easily have academics, a nicer campus (by far), and a much more intelligent, safe and diverse surrounding town… where apparently nobody’s real estate is devalued because it’s considered to be in a flight path.

Nothing sucks about losing at sporting events. They’re sporting events. You want to know what sucks? Living in or around Eugene sucks.

          • Unless you like pot, are a hippie, homeless or want to get away with rape. Then Eugene is a great place!

  46. This committee bs is total bogus. The have UCLA and USC meeting in Super. Oregon in a cream puff regional and travels to Ok St for super? And the Beavs hosed on hosting, travel to Texas to play Texan teams and then have to go to Miami for a Super. Cal and ASU can’t be too ecstatic either. But the ducks, yeah, they are on cloud nine. This crap is ruining this sport.

  47. Apparently those Mid Week games do matter Angry. Like the civil war game last Tuesday that didn’t get its own thread and had limited following. I blame angry for this travesty ;)

  48. I feel pretty good about the Beavers winning this regional. Texas won the big 12 tourney but they aren’t very good. Dallas Baptist haven’t taken a series vs a real team of substance all year and Beavers have better pitching. I think the Beavers win the first 2 games and in the game to advance Eckert will start but will be a very quick hook if he isn’t sharp and they’ll go to Tweedt. Not an idea location but the pure draw of teams is pretty good. I like the Beavers to go 3-0 in the regional and advance to play Miami in the Supers

  49. Trever Morrison being back on Friday would be huge. He has a checkup on Wednesday. Beavs would be able to slide Hamilton back to third and Morrison back at shortstop and the offense will be much better with not having Gretler in the lineup. I’d also like to see Gillette get some more time. Him and Cary should platoon in RF. Both are significantly better than Michael Howard offensively.

    • Hope you are right, when he is “on” Morrison is a plus for the O. Fielding Avg in conf is within .003 of Hamilton.
I’m really concerned with him shaking off the rust quickly, playoffs are a rough time to get back into the swing of things. Interesting to see how Casey handles this.

  50. Too much travel for a young team to tough “weather wise” parts of the country. Not to mention the competition. Staying home, or at least in the west, would have been huge for a team in this stage of development.

The good news is that the gas cans in the bullpen won’t ignite in the humidity. JB

  51. Today I fucked up by reading the comment section of an article on o-live related to Oregon getting into the playoffs. It’s mostly oregon fans complaining about how many beaver fans are just jealous – ironically I didn’t see a single comment from a beaver fan saying they don’t deserve it. Perhaps they were just drowned out.

One comment really made me shake my head – some kid saying Corvallis is too small to get big time athletes, while big cities like Eugene have everything an athlete wants. Sad that some people consider Eugene a big city.

    • It’s really unfortunate they got lucky and got handed the season series. We take care of em in either game 1 at hole or game 5 in Corvo and they’re on the outside looking in and we’re hosting.

Honestly, I’m not really too worried about baseball. They don’t really have a strong formula for success, just a lot of money. They made their team out of spite, pumped a ton of money in, and that made them decent from the jump. I don’t ever see them ever being elite or really being a threat to win it though. Baseball gods won’t let that happen.

    • What, precisely, does an athlete want? There are exactly two good restaurants in this town… three if you go out to Walterville… where I don’t usually see any athletes. Is it because we have two Wal-Marts and a Target?

Or is it because we have a ton more strip clubs, marijuana dispensaries and tattoo parlors? Since Corvallis doesn’t have a strip club, athletes don’t want to go there.

        • Come on!

There’s Belly and Izakaya Meiji. Nothing else rises above national food chain restaurant level. I don’t know what it is with gastro-pubs in Oregon, but they seem to all have the same fare. It’s mostly decent stuff. But every time a new one opens it gets the same rave reviews… and tastes the same as the last one… usually devoid of salt. If I try the next “best burger in town” from the next newest brew pub, I can guarantee it tastes like every other pub burger.

Forget Chinese in this town. Kung Fu Bistro is okay, but only because it’s the only non-chain which has consistently decent food. There are a couple Italian places slightly better than an Olive Garden trip. BBQ? Ha! Steak? Right. And can anyone tell me why Dari Mart has the second best B&G in town?

          • Twin Dragon is great if you read/speak Chinese. They have a separate menu with totally different shit on it that’s not in English.

          • It’s nowhere near consistent. You could get TV dinner quality one night and pretty decent another. I don’t usually bother with menus at Chinese places. Any good one will have an off-menu menu. Teriyaki Boy and Ocean Sky are also decent.

There is no great Indian in town. At least Evergreen is authentic, if also not consistent (Corvallis suffers the same fate there). Springfield has the best Thai over on 5th and Main. Kamitori is the only place I’ll eat sushi in this town. Mame is decent for budget sushi… I guess. For some reason, all the Vietnamese, Japanese and Thai places taste like Korean food. And having Korean dishes on all their menus doesn’t help dissuade me from feeling that way.

And ugh! Hawai’ian food! Is it too much to ask for some real Huli Huli around here? Soaking chunks of chicken in sweet teriyaki is not Huli Huli. It’s dry chicken that needs a ton more teriyaki to be palatable. Rack it, broast it, baste it, huli (turn) it. It’s also sad that the lunch lady in elementary school knew how to make sticky rice, but Hawai’ian restaurants around here have no clue.

There’s also a mom & pop Phillipino place out by the Goodwill over in Springfield that’s pretty good. Their menu changes a bunch, which makes for fresh stuff. I’m always looking for good lumpia and fried pork belly.

I blame the palates of the people in this town. They wouldn’t know great Asian food if it smacked them in the forehead and dribbled spicy, tangy goodness into their mouths. If people around here don’t get it coated in cornstarch and sugar and served with a 2:1 ratio of meat to veg, then forget it. The Safeway up on 122nd has better Chinese than you can find in this town. But that was a decade ago when I knew the chef who was working there. Then again, it’s not fair comparing Eugene to Portland in any way. So I’ll stop doing that now.

I find it rather sad that the best Lao within an hour of me is the Woodsman. That should tell you what I think of the food around here.

          • I do. The markets here are better than the ethnic restaurants would suggest. But I only cook standard fare, BBQ/grill and what I would consider fast food.

  52. I can’t get too worked up about the Quacks getting in given that the Beavs played some of their worst baseball of the season against them and could have rendered the committe selection discussion irrelevant. Beavs just need to take care of their own shit at this point and do some good things in the tourney.

    • I think that’s a healthy approach, as much as I hate the ucks your point is a good one.
The more significant gripe, for me, is that the PAC is strong enough to put 6 in the post season but not to have #2 host.

      • I hear you, that debate is going on at all of the college baseball sites. I also don’t get why these mid-majors do conference tournaments, it seems like every year their best teams lose in these tournaments and get left out by the selectors.

  53. As I always say, Just keep punching until the wall falls down! You can hope for change, but man shouldn’t change for hope!!!!!!1!

      • Careful you two, A@A is gonna come on and let you know you aren’t real fans!

Seriously, it really will take great pitching all around to go far, even more so if the Beavs have to come back from the losers side. A long shot, but not “doing squat” seems too fatalistic to me.

I would feel better if the team was coming off the Saturday performance rather that Sunday’s “it don’t matter” game.

          • Why would you come for them? Just based on your history, but maybe I read it wrong…Kum Ba Yah.

Yes, the BP has struggled and nobody is expecting a trip to Omaha. But a lot of fans realize that unexpected things can happen over a few weekends. Are you gonna tune out as soon as Yeskie pulls out the hook? If so, I doubt many will be joining you.

        • Regional hosts all know a couple hours before they’re announced. We had zero to play for on Sunday when we took the field.

          • All very true. I still favor coming off of a “must win” 9-0 victory than a no pressure, no matter, don’t count, “zero to play for” outing.

    • Depends on whether Moore and Rasmussen can throw well enough to win both of the first two with relatively little bullpen work. If they throw the games they did against Cal, we’ve got a great chance against anybody in the country, regional or super regional.

  54. Have any of you guys watched Texas? They seem like a dark horse. Playing their best ball right now and will probably have the most fans there of any team.

If you’ve watched them, let’s hear a scouting report.

  55. This maybe a blessing in disguise. No pressure on this team to do anything. They are young enough to not know that they should have pressure. If Rassmusen can give us quality start that would be a valuable assest. The bullpen is a weakness, however if the bats come alive they could be really a difference maker.

    • I feel pretty good about Tweedt as either a long reliever or #4 starter.

Forecast for Dallas looks like low to mid 80’s with higher humidity and chance of scattered T-storms. Is that favorable for OSU?

  56. when is the CWS Regional thread with Preview coming?

Probably tomorrow. I was hoping to get more info from you guys or the media. I haven’t watched any of the opponents. Has anyone? Give me a scouting report.

  57. someone finally removed Whiskey’s edits to Sunken Diamond’s wikipedia page. That only took two weeks

  58. PAC and Beav’s get hosed. Who did Casey piss off? I will have to pinch my nose and hope the Iowa Hogeyes prevail.
