  1. Helicopter hovering over the field to dry it out. Diamond dry being applied to outfield. It’s looking more and more like this will be delayed, probably several times throughout the day. But they are trying their best to get it going.

Oh the irony, meanwhile in Corvallis its perfect!

    • I also don’t like the fact the Beavs have to play first today. That field sounds like a mess and an unknown right now. An error here or there or an injury? Yikes

    • all of this because Dallas Baptist sunk a bunch of money into a new ballpark last year, and the committee wanted to reward them for it by letting them host. Great decision

  3. So is the game only available on the longhorn network? I’ve walked into about 5 different bars so far and none subscribe to it.

  4. Beautiful start for Moore.

This Parker French is a punchable face if I’ve ever seen one. Dollars to donuts this pudgy bastard is a twirp.

  5. Can someone tell me where the strike zone might be located? With that last at-bat, I’m guessing it looks like a Congressional district.

  6. The Jason Quick curse has struck the program. Moore has no control and Devon Clarke decommits from the football program.

  7. 10 pitch inning by Moore, nice.

And OT, but is it me, or do the UT uniforms look like they came to the park with dirt on them?

Beavers seem to have figured out Parker French – they have 8 hits in the last 3 innings, now lead 3-1 after 5. All singles to all fields.

  9. Omfg! He wasn’t even close to being safe. What was the Texas player bitching about?

Parker French done, longhorns going to the pen

    • Longhorn network replayed it about 6 times. Wasn’t even close. More caught it before he touched the base and indeed touched the base with his foot. My god, Helen Keller would’ve called it an out

  10. Moore 102 pitches, missing high, slow to cover first; time to sit? Only thing is, he has pulled through in the past in similar situations. Doesn’t sound like humidity or temp is a big factor for him today.

    disclaimer: no TV here

  11. that catch by the texas outfielder was a difference maker. hope it doesn’t come back to bite us later. robbed of a homerun

      • Fitt’s latest, “Well that was an unexpected turn of events. Brooks Marlow just deposited a fat 3-1 Moore fastball into the trees in RF. 2-run shot, tied up.” and, “That was Andrew Moore’s 117th and final pitch — enter the great Scotland Church. Thought Texas was in real trouble down 4-1. Nice comeback.”

  12. Moore had really been battling for a few innings but over 110 pitches and you could tell he was running on fumes. Hard to believe nobody in the dugout could tell. Just setting Andrew Moore up for failure there

  13. More Fitt, “Beavers retake the lead 5-4 on Kyle Nobach’s RBI double to right-center. Been a huge spark plug today, as he has all year — 3-for-4, 2 RBIs.”

Spark plug all year? Well, OK, especially if you consider his play in the outfield.

  14. I’d like to see Church be given the opportunity to close this one out over Hickey. Church has been far more reliable the last couple weeks. Hickey is either really good or a mess out there.

  15. Donahue has to have a more competitive at-bat than that. Not feeling great about this with Hickey trying to hold onto a one run lead

  16. “At least let Church start the 9th.”

Why not do this? Any logic to this? Just “by the book” managing to bring in the closer..?

  17. Is it too much to ask that the bullpen not fucking walk anyone when the batter doesn’t even take the bat off his shoulder?? Guess so

    • Me too. I thought Texas was the biggest threat and had no idea how today’s game would play out. Beavs should win comfortably if they get a good start. I’m think 7-2 or so.

  18. What a huge confidence bump for the entire team to be able to come back after letting Texas tie. With any luck the evening game will get rain delayed, go into extra innings, etc… While the Beavers sit back and wait for the winner.

    • Yes. Built a little confidence there. Down 1-0 early. Tied 4-4 late. This team should know to not get too emotional and to keep pressing. Yes, let’s root for delays, or even a rain out into tomorrow causing a double header. Also, I want to see Dallas Baptist not get to use their home dugout and to have to bat first like what happens to the Beavs when we host. I’m never sure how those ncaa rules work, but love to see the in our favor for a change.

  19. As said before, it is likely to take more than 4 runs to win in the post season. When I said that I figured it would be due to pitching mistakes made by the Beavs due to weather, turns out today the weather didn’t seem to be the culprit. JMHO.

  20. FYI, 60% chance of showers and t-storms again for the Dallas area tonight and tomorrow. Delays or postponement is a possibility.

  21. Virginia’s uniforms are almost as bad as the Yucks softball style costumes. I fully expect to see Nike craft some uniform where it says something across their ass, or in the tramp stamp spot, like the players nicknames or something.

    ‘Sassy!’

    • Feels like we are getting the same guys we did under Regime RILEY.

The initial offers are much much better but the dudes who are actually committing don’t feel all that different. Looking at Pierce’s film he could breakout his senior year and jump to 3.5 – 4 stars but how many times have we also said that in the past?

      • I just watched his film and had the same thought: this looks like a Riley recruit. I think the sites and colleges have nailed this one, because he has a 2-star rating and Beavs were his first power 5 offer (has a ton of lower level offers). That sounds right.

      • the 2*/3* guys probably feel pressured a little bit to commit early, before the offer goes away, since it’s their best offer at the moment. In the last 10 years, in our best year we only had 2 commits by the end of may. 1 or 0 commits by the end of May was the norm. This year we have/had 5/6 commits (Clarke de-committed today too)

    • Jack was on that this morning in the previous thread. 3* RB, not a very good offer list, but that could change. Also gained a long snapper today for the 2015 class. Same guy we had been hearing about for about 2 weeks now.

      • I missed that… until I saw it on the twitter feed!

3-star? I think that’s generous. High 2-star, imo. Maybe he brings intangibles we don’t know about, but on film he’s not exactly shifty nor does he have breakaway speed, nor does he appear to be a bulldozer type. He’s a mix of everything…jack of all trades, master of none. That’s how I see this one.

        What do you think?

        • I only called him a 3* guy because I tend to go with the 247 ranking over the Rivals rankings. I think 247 is basically an average from the other sites, balanced with their own evaluation. I don’t have an eye for evaluating talent, but given his size and weight, and that he’s going into his senior year still, I think 2* will be low for him after the next football season.

          • I’m not familiar enough with 247 to know how they compare with rivals, scout, or espn. I think rivals is the best. Scout seems to inflate stars, ESPN undervalues. I usually agree most with rivals. I also think the Rivals west coast evaluators are better than their East coast counterparts, in general.

From what I’ve seen of 247, they tend to over inflate a little.

I can see this player as a high 2 star or low 3, so it makes sense why the sites vary on this one. Even the offer sheet suggests he’s in that range. It’ll be interesting to see if he improves this year. If he can gain just a bit more speed somehow he’d jump up.

          • Check out the most recent tweet in the feed. The Pierce commitment is trending on Twitter? Wonder if all of the baseball tweets are confusing twitter into thinking every OSU mention is related to Pierce?

  22. jesus did anyone get an easier regional than Miami? Florida International, East Carolina and Columbia. If the Beavs survive Dallas I would fully expect them to have to go to Coral Gables

  23. UCSB on the verge of losing their opener vs San Diego State after SDSU stole home in the 8th. Wouldn’t surprise me if they went 0-2 and got bounced. Team didn’t really deserve to host and are likely to have their season end quickly.

  24. UCLA leading Cal-Bakersfield 6-2 in the 8th. Looking like the Pac-12 will go 4-2 today. Ducks actually caught a break with Missouri St game being postponed until tomorrow. Whoever loses that early game will have to turn around and play again against the ducks.

  25. what concerns me tomorrow? Rasmussen has never pitched in a game of this magnitude. VCU has won 12 straight. Either way, just win. Go Beavs!

  26. In a hostile environment, after their ace had just surrendered the lead late in the game, the young Beavers showed admirable poise and resilience. Their counterpunch came immediately, and it proved decisive.

“When you’re running some people out there that maybe it’s their third trip to a regional or won a World Series, obviously you’ve got leadership that’s been in that situation, but very few guys have ever played in this,” Casey said. “These guys probably don’t know what to think of me because I’ve been as loose as you can be for the last three days, so they think I’ve lost my mind. But really, it’s their time of year. We’re not going to get any better as a team, we’re not going to do anything other than just play the game, and it’s their opportunity. They’ve put in the work, it’s about them. They get to showcase what they’ve done.

“Ultimately it comes down to players playing the game. That part’s fun for me, because I get to sit back and watch it a little bit, watch some energy, and watch guys grow. I’ve seen these kids grow up right before my eyes. Sometimes you’ve got to pat them on the tail, sometimes you’ve got to kick them on the tail. They’ve just got to go get it.”

    And they did.
