  1. OT Roundup:
–FB scrimmage will be inside, not open to public. Due to rain forecast.
–WBB vs Cal at 11:30 am today, PAC12 Net. Somehow, I would have preferred them to face SC.
–Katie McW not expected to play vs Cal (undisclosed ailment) per Gina
–Sydney named PAC12 “Scholar Athlete of the Year”
–Rainout likely for baseball today, forecast is 100% rain at 5pm trending down to (only) 60% at 7.
–If baseball is a go, the broadcast is student produced Live Stream here: http://pac-12.com/live/oregon-state-university-2
    That’s all I got………..Go Beavs!

  2. For WBB, maybe we should use the “chat” feature so as not to bog down the baseball thread. Though, I doubt many people will even watch that game given the start time. Guess we’ll see. I’ll start off in the chat and go from there.

    • regarding the SI report: I don’t believe it’s accurate to say that Riley effectively mined JC talent when he was at OSU; Dennis did, however. On the other hand, the assertion that his recruiting MO was to find two-star talent with potential is spot on. That system did seem to work early on but as the conference stable of coaches improved Riley’s few “diamonds in the rough” weren’t enough to carry the program to an average of two games above .500 which was his “brand”

        • Only the LA schools beat the Lady Beavs in conference play. I’m more worried of a rematch with Grimace and Co on UW’s home floor.

          • Doesn’t seem to be quite fair to have the tournament at a home location for one of the schools, when it didn’t even come about by winning the conference.

          • It is what it is Scotty my man. Beavs/Grimace and friends tournament final is my prediction. And I don’t like that matchup on the road.

In reality the only 3 teams I can see winning the conference tournament besides the 2 mentioned above? Stanford.

I know. Going out on a limb with that bold prediction.

  3. Weather in Eugene allowed the ucks and Mississippi State to get their game in. Ucks win 1-0, on 5 hits despite 2 errors.
    Peterson goes 8 full, 17 K’s.

    • Thanks for the update. I was considering going to see how the QB’s are progressing but not happening now. Have to wait for the spring game.

        • I see that now at the top of the thread. You’re so forgettable oneoldbeav. But I will always respect you in the morning.

And you better damn well be able to take a joke!

        • Wow 70+ yds arm strength no wonder the coaches are enamored with this guy. I would feel good about mcm being the starter but if this guy can legitimately beat him out and take care of the ball it could really open the field up for playmakers. Im thinking someone like qauntino.

          • That’s the second time I’ve heard him interviewed and felt that he has his head on straight. I’m with you…feel good about McM but certainly open to Luton if that’s the decision.
On paper that height advantage looks good and his recognition of his own weakness being over-reliance on his arm is also a positive for me.
We know McM is very intelligent but Luton seems more socially mature, certainly more outgoing.

  4. Stream is working better than last year. Good audio with Jim Wilson in a very gentlemanly way educating Jon Warren.
Going to the 8th, Beavs up 4-0.

  5. Beavs win 4-0. Mulholland faces 3, K’s 2 to close it out.
Noteworthy was Adley, in the 8th, picking off the runner at first to close out the inning. Great throw particularly late in the game; will be interesting to see who catches in game 2.

  6. Beavs PAC-12 tournament matchup is set. With Utah winning and Cal losing today, da Utes jump the bears and get a first round bye. Beavs will face Cal at a yet to be determined time on Wednesday. At least the pain will be over in a few more days.

  7. This Civil War game is some pretty ugly basketball by both sides. Somehow tied with 4 minutes in the half remaining.
    The jinx is on…

    • Did ya hear that Fehmel has been jumped by Jake Thompson and will work out of the bullpen while Jake gets the start tomorrow? Will be interesting to see how Jake does as competition heats up.

  8. WBB down 3 at the half, about 10 TO’s. Marie with, what 2 pts? Gabby with 2 PF sat lots of the 2nd period and it showed in the success of the Bruin offense that quarter.
Nobody seems to be using chat.

  9. Tinkle is a horrible X & O coach. Worst then Robinson and Jay John. What an embarassment. BDC sure can pick garbage. Ben Howland would have been 100 times the coach Tinkle is. Best thing for the program is a CBI level year next year and getting the next best upcomer. Tinks has become a joke. Would prefer younger but if Gottfried is still available next year he is a significant step up. Tinks won the lottery with the only P5 program in America stupid enough to keep a 1-17 coach in conference. Look for another 25+ point blowout loss in Pac-12 tourney.

  10. Don’t get me wrong, it’s really great to see the Lady Beavs become such a powerhouse and we all have sung the praises of Scott Rueck over and over, but am I the only one who sees women’s college basketball as kind of pointless as long as UConn remains UConn? I mean give me a f-ing break, 105 wins in a row. The other teams aren’t really playing for THE championship because it ain’t going to happen.

  11. Watched the women’s game. A grind it out kind of game. Beavs won the kind of game that moves teams deeper in the ncaas. Lots of turnovers but pulled it out. Need to clean that up if they want to get back to the final four.

If Oregon were to win vs Stanford, it might be the better matchup since it’ll be their fourth game in four nights.

    • I like Pivec, but the difference between the time when Gabby was out vs when she was in shows that, for now, she is pretty much impossible to replace on D………and tonight she made contributions on the other end of the floor as well.

    • Furd is coming around, leads by 2 at the half.
Half time commenters just pointed out spells of selfishness on the part of Ionescu. If she actually becomes a team player they are gonna be trouble for the next few years.

      • I think Rueck must be the most gracious person in the world. A half-time reporter took notice of a man in a duck t-shirt talking to Rueck in the lobby – seems it was Ionescu’s father – noted that Ionescu almost went to OSU – made it sound as if it was OSU’s loss and that Rueck would have been heart-broken.

  12. Lady Beavs gut out another one. Even my wife commented on how much grabbing/ fouling UCLA gets away with and let out a yell when Syd finally plowed over Canada. Amazing how they make plays when it counts. Pivec playing like she did earlier.

  13. Stanford pulls away in the 4th and wins 71-56. Lady Beavs/Furd tomorrow evening at 6 for the conference tourney championship.

  14. Those varmints are going to get what’s coming to them! They’ll see! That was less of a rough and tumble, more of a pushy shovey

  15. The new scoreboard at Goss stadium is pretty cool. At least I THINK it’s a new scoreboard; the display certainly looks more crisp and clean. Indeed, it has a better look/utility than the one in Reser. The only thing missing is hitters BA, but that’s probably intended to shield embarrassment for certain players, visiting and home

  16. Did anyone else think the players look more like a d1 football team than we’ve seen in a few years? To me they look to have a lot more size. My main concern right now is center and tackle opposite of brandel, and safety depth. I know there is a lot of guys coming in the fall but how well will they know the playbook? Will they have the size and speed to play in the pac 12 as freshman?

    • >Did anyone else think the players look more like a d1 football team than we’ve seen in a few years?

Definitely. Reminds me of the guys Erickson brought in, bigger, stronger, faster than the guys Riley recruited. (Though back then, I think Riley was a pretty good recruiter, probably because of coach Gilstrap, the real talent evaluator on Riley’s staff.)

Agreed on the line too, RT and C are concerns, but they did work it out last year, so hopefully guys step up, sounds like they just keep moving guys around to find the best fit. I like that flexibility, not pigeon-holing a guy at just one spot.

I feel like safety is a position where a young guy can get some time, David Morris will be at safety this year, I could definitely see him getting some early playing time.

    • Earelier in this thread helmsley mentioned the graciousness of Rueck, I think Jim Wilson is in the same category. He has been so patient and understanding in working with (and educating) Jon Warren.

  17. So far today the pattern of better than average performance by the bottom of the batting order and Jake Mulholland’s good work continues.
