Weekend baseball vs USC – General Thread

188

Bob Lundeberg of the GT says, “If you hear Dancing Queen at Goss Stadium, odds are Steven Kwan is about to get on base and wreak havoc.”
Beavs and Kwan won’t be at Goss this weekend to play the Spoiled Children, but Kwan may “wreak havoc” just the same! He’s started at leadoff in every single game so far; and carries a .484 OBP into the series in La La Land.

Beavs stand at #5 RPI and still have a shot at a PAC12 championship. Every game is important.  All three games on PAC12, starting 7pm Friday, 1:30 Sat, noon on Sunday.

In case you missed it, the previous thread contains the latest from our friend, and experienced Washington attorney, Martin Meyer. If you’ve followed his other articles you will want to take time to study his response to SI and BT. A lengthy and well thought out piece.

As always, feel free to go general here, and….
As always, you can refer to previous threads to learn how to buy a cup of coffee for Angry.

GO BEAVS!

  1. Kwan is playing better than his stats right now. He got off to a pretty slow start this year so to get his numbers to where they are now, means his is more than on fire.

  2. Beavs Softball was down to 1 out away from the win vs Wisconsin, but now have loaded the bases with Badgers best hitter up to bat.
    Pitching change. Brutal

  3. 4-0 Beavs after 7 full.
Luke at 89 pitches likely to go all the way; SC frosh arm did look good but is gone after a night which included a WP, an errant throw to 2nd, 2BB, 5 K’s. Gave up 10 hits which isn’t such a bad thing these days as the Beavs are making swings on pretty much everyone.

  4. Final: 4-0 Good Guys; Luke 8.1 innings 14 K’s. If any GM in MLB values a mentally strong player, Luke is your guy. Amazing performance with the SI thing hanging over his head.

Mulholland the save; 2 pitches to get to the DP to end it, thanks to Grenier’s fine play.

  5. Beavs last 20 games(since Arizona series and mostly with Madrigal back in the lineup) have featured only 2 losses and 1 tie(all losses/tie were game 3 of a series win). 5 games remain

Florida loses 2nd straight to Miss St tonight to lose first series of the year. 41-14 overall record, but they have lost 10 of their last 20 games(just spacing them out enough that they haven’t been losing series as a result of those losses.
Good chance they lose again tomorrow as their bullpen is thin this week due to injury.
Then it’s Sec tournament time for them next week. Even if they lose out, Kendall Rodgers says there’s is no chance they lose their #1 overall seed. Somehow they are bulletproof. But one team is hot heading towards the postseason, and the other team is not.

    • Kendall Rodgers is a fraud and an SEC shill. He isn’t as educated on anything outside of the South as he portrays.

The Beavs have less losses in 2 years of baseball than Florida has this year….

      • He has to cater to the SEC fans to get the most clicks, the SEC does have the “best” fans as far as showing up to games. It also fits the narrative of sports programming to paint a picture of the bar that is set – “here is an example of the best, can anybody beat them”….it creates a story and gets people to watch — David & Goliath drama — think Yankees, Patriots, etc. Fans of those teams watch to root FOR them as much haters of those teams watch to root AGAINST them. ESPN has made the SEC the latest Yankees hype machine whether earned or not, the conference to beat, at least in football, and it has bled into other sports. Did I read that all of the SEC’s softball teams made the tournament…? Has the PAC-12 ever had all of its teams make the tournament, given their recent domination in that sport? Much of it is hype, but we have also seen how far the team to the south has gotten on hype. As long as biased ESPN presents the SEC as the best, the standard bearer, then much of the country will assume as much too.
Kendall Rogers will follow the hype just as much as any ESPN watcher.
Sorry for the incoherent rant, my 3 year old won’t let me be on the phone without a bunch of drama.

      • Agree on Rodgers being overrated, but it does look like D1 may be coming around WRT Luke. Mentioned this on the previous thread.

This from the portion not behind paywall in today’s story on Luke:
A wildly talented pitcher who has the tools to be a force in the big leagues someday, and also an individual who pleaded guilty to child molestation charges as a juvenile, though he has always maintained his innocence and apparently passed a couple of lie detector tests as well.

      • Strangely, the only time I read more than four of his words is here… when people like you decide to whine about him.

        I wonder how that works.

  6. Who would’ve thought the Beavs would win with Adley/ Larnach going 0-10 and leaving a ton of runners on base. Nobach though with a career night, 4-4 with 2 runs scored and an RBI.

    • I agree with your comment, here are a couple who might have “thought the Beavs would win with Adley/Larnach going 0-10…”
Kwan, Grenier, Gretler, heck, the whole outfit thinks they can win each time they take the field!

Lately, I’ve noticed, more than usual, the comparison of the degree of hustle by the Beavs as opposed to the recent opponents. 100% hustle vs some lackadaisical moments by the opposition.

  7. Taylor Kalmer traveling to sdsu. Not unexpected with Slocum coming in. Kalmer would be a starter at most d1 schools. Just the odd person out here.

  8. Let’s go beavers, clap, clap, clap clap clap…and madigal with the triple to clear the bases…good guys 7-1 top of 6th

  9. One of you predicted this awhile back. Kalmer has transferred off the wbb team. Time for Slocum to step in and move Pivec over.

  10. Is Grenier’s hit streak still alive? I haven’t paid attention this week, but thought it was still going as of the San Diego games

  11. Softball wins double header today(Middle Tenn State and Wisconsin) eliminating both teams.
OSU needs to take 2 straight from Alabama to survive and advance.

    • Kevn Abel is my best bet. He left last Sunday leading Stanford 5-1 and the bullpen collapsed. He struggled with his fastball but his breaking stuff was nasty.

        • I keep watching that clip trying to figure out what happened on that throw to 3rd. Her teammate(i think the pitcher covering 3rd) sees the ball go way over her head and just instantly drops her head in shame, as if to say “not again….”

  12. I see Dumbshit Donald has gone off his rocker… yet again.

Does he not realize that he’s the CIC?

“Someone should do SOMETHING about this!!!! You! You’re someone. Do Something!!! I’m going to go PLAY GOLF THEN schmooze with people at a party. Make sure YOU DO something about this.”

Only 2.5 more years of this joke.

I can’t wait to see what America offers up as a replacement to this pretend man. The bar is so low.

      • Fuck that.

Should we ask what Dumbshit thinks of Luke?

Imagine how that would play out.

        Serious question:
Putting aside the well known fact that Dumbshit is an admitted racist, an admitted sexual predator, a draft dodger, a failed businessman (x7), a failed husband (x3), a failed man, lazy, bombastic, dumb as shit on stick on a rainy day, and it was pretty well known a decade ago that he was laundering money for the Russian mafia and their human trafficking profits… what does anyone see in this pretend man?

I mean… I would never vote for HRC. But I would never vote for him for the same reasons times ten. His resting bitch face is worse than hers… as are his hips and hair.

        • Think of it this way:

Six years ago, six year-olds were gunned down in their school, and nobody did shit about it… except for the Dumbshit types who claimed it was all fake news.

The kids who are getting gunned down now aren’t really surprised anymore. They saw their elders do nothing then. They expect them to do nothing now. There will be a bunch of posturing, then there will be a bunch more the next time. Those kids six years ago are six years older now. They will be six years older in six years.

I normally wouldn’t point out the obvious, but it’s Dumbshit’s world.

As I listen to grumpy old farts complain about “millennials this” or “millennials that,” I have to wonder what the fuck those grumpy whiners have done to abate that which they whine about. They have made the largest generation in America (likely to be so for the next couple generational cycles as well) grow up under really stupid and lazy leadership.

And they have these handheld devices that tell them everything they need to know about everything. They’re not stupid like the guy powered by orange. They know how to put a beaver on it.

          • America is getting its due for all of Dumbshit’s whining. He’s nothing but a walking example of cognitive dissonance. He tells you to your face that you’re stupid–that the words, phrases and ideas he coins are garbage to even him–and you eat it up like you are what he says you are.

The weak-minded will vote for Old Bone Spur because he leads them down the garden path pretending to be the anti-everything he says he’s against. They will vote for him simply because someone says truthful things about him in an impolite manner, the respect he’s truly earned.

Try looking up his past. It’s in print and on video and audio all over the place. Dude is a spoiled rich brat who grew up to be a putz. Granted, that last is an opinion. But what do you call someone who works five hours a day then goes golfing all weekend?

            … besides Dr.?

          • What do you think is slander?

You need to be specific. All this is pretty well-known stuff.

The rumor I refuse to believe is that Dumbshit started his extra-racist birther actions because he was smart enough to think that POTUS couldn’t prosecute him for money-laundering without making it look like vengeance if he just acted like a dickhead racist.

I don’t think Dumbshit or anyone in his camp is that smart.

          • I mean… you’ll have to point out which of Dumbshit’s public statements over the 50 years we’ve witnessed his public existence you think is slander.

None of this is new. It was all well known before anyone voted for him.

          • I call him Dumbshit for a reason.

He is everything he ostensibly campaigns against. It would be funny if he weren’t POTUS and a factor in my daily life.

I just choose to allow him to be the joke he is. It mitigates the disgust I have for him as a person and the office he soils.

          • If you’re so lazy and ignorant that you need me to provide links to his public statements and actions over five decades, I can do that here… on some off blog. It’s a pretty simple endeavor for anyone who wants to be even semi-informed. But I’ll do it if you need to be like him.

          • I can already hear the claims of fake news… about his public statements and actions… that have been recorded on video and in writing and on his own twitter and whatever.

          • So I guess you can’t find any of the above which aren’t actual facts when you run them through the google machine?

That’s what your silence tells me.

I guess the only unproven one is the money-laundering. But everyone knew he was doing it. It was thought that Deutsche Bank’s fines would throw them into bankruptcy, exposing his network. They may have, but we’re not hearing about it much… because, you know, fake news.

If you don’t know about Dumbshit and his relationship to Josef Ackermann, then you don’t know squat. Hell, I bet you didn’t even know Wilbur Ross was the Vice Chair at the Bank of Cyprus.

Hmmm… who likes to bank in Cyprus?

Go ahead and live in your dreamland for now. It won’t last, and those you step on now will do so to you tenfold when the house burns down. But I think you won’t mind, given your precious the Donald thinks you’re an idiot.

But at least he wuvs you.

          • beav271–really? Is that your criteria to vote for the President of the US?

CJ–there is no bigger piece of shit in the world than DJT. The whole very essence of his being revolves around deceit, entitlement, blame shifting, immaturity, and ignorance.

I love Beaver sports, but you can’t ignore this POS.

          • Idk… it could be worse.

It could be Ted Cruz… or he could get bounced for his criminality, and his veep would take over.

Both of those options are lesser than he is. At least he’s too vain and stupid to be effective. There’s a certain comfort knowing he has mental safety mittens on at all times.

    • I do have to apologize to Betsy DeVos.

She and her family are more effectually corrupt than I thought they would be given their lack of displayed intelligence.

Old Bone Spur must be gathering all his courage to fight this corruption… like someone with integrity, honor, courage or even a smidge of decency might do.

      • Consider this.

The education debt bubble consists of inflated tuition costs. But most of that inflation comes from for-profit institutions competing in a deregulated market. Those institutions are what made the DeVos family wealthy.

        You do the math.

  13. Winston Churchill thinks Jack’s political commentary is like a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma.

I’m not sure how to or whether I want to de-code it all.

OT: Bring the brooms and get a sweep today!

    • Winston Churchill was a war criminal who was so paranoid that he had numerous doubles make public appearances for him when he was older. He is probably the reason Iraq and Afghanistan are as unstable as they are now.

      So… there’s that.

      • Churchill does give me hope.

If England and their parliamentary democracy can survive a war criminal like him, one that could shoulder up with Stalin and play put put if he wanted, then our country can survive a chiseler like Dumbshit.

  14. Jack,

We literally do not care about your political opinions. Read the top of the website: “A Critical View of Oregon State Athletics”.

  15. Sounds like D1 Baseball is going to keep Florida at #1 in their poll because they say it was a meaningless series loss for them…

But on the flip side of that meaningless series loss for Florida, they are also claiming that Mississippi State is now a lock to be in the tournament.

So the way it works in the SEC is that if you win you win and if you lose you also win.

    • Similar to football, when the SEC conference plays another in conference team, they’re almost always playing vs a “ranked” team. So a series win looks extra special, and a series loss just means you lost to another really good team. Quality loss….

They seem to ignore Florida is playing .500 ball for the last month. Friday and Saturday Florida’s been pretty good, but for Sunday and midweek games they’ve been terrible.

      • So basically they’re saying the SEC leads the nation in quality losses

And since Arkansas lost a home series to Southern California this year, the Razorbacks can still be ahead of OSU in RPI because they get a bump from their 17 quality losses.

    • Yea I thought that was total crap.

It’s apparently a HUGE win for Mississippi State but completely meaningless for Florida because they weren’t even trying.

You can’t have it both ways! This is like dividing by zero.

  16. Not only do we not have a 3rd pitcher (which we knew) but we also forgot to bring our bats today.

    “That’s baseball” I guess?

  17. Jack destroys another decent thread. Welcome to the summer-time blues of off topic rants by a self appointed expert with a keyboard and more inside political understanding than all of us combined.

Yawn Jack. We get it, you are the genius in the room, not us. We are too ignorant and lazy to learn all that you know in order to be so infallible as you. It would be a sad day if we had your initiative, because you would have no one to rant at, since we would no longer be your inferiors, intellectually or politically speaking.

Please take some time and back away from the anti-Trump/political drama, it is tiring even if partly true. I doubt that any of your rants are as fully true as you insist anyway. Fake news also applies to both sides of the political aisle, not just POTUS as you continually infer. Give it a rest Jack, please.

    • Infallible?

You’re ignorant and apathetic about learning anythng you just don’t want to know for whatever reason. There’s nothing “inside” that I’ve brought into this. My rants can be sourced, if you like.

But I know you wouldn’t like… because you’re willfully ignorant. So why should I bother until you ask a direct question on any one of them?

We’ve discussed cognitive dissonance here before.

I guess you were asleep for that one as well.

      • You insist that your rants can be sourced. We’d all like for your rants to be ceased.

And you make assumptions regarding cognitive dissonance as it relates to me or anyone else. Whether I agree, disagree, made uncomfortable or not by your statements is simply irrelevant because the point is that you constantly introduce politics in an off-topic manner all over a sports blog.

I like you Jack, and think you make great points periodically regarding football, basketball and baseball. But when you rant regarding the latest political topic you just read about, without any context, and get the predictable push-back from other readers, you don’t understand why? You once had at least 60% of the comments on a several hundred comment thread. Sometimes I think you are a sad and lonely fellow who is just looking for interaction with other people. You can’t be friendly so your route of choice is to provoke others into a back and forth argument where-by you have a form of conversation but in the process you can show how smart you are.

        • I understand why. What makes you think I don’t understand push-back?

I work on stream of consciousness. If you don’t like it, don’t read it. Or you can post that you dislike it. That’s your choice.

I’m going to speak about things which are in my face daily… periodically. I want to just watch the comedy that ensues as Napoleon whines about not being able to set the dogs on Snowball. But then he blubbers about the constant dangers of Eurasia and our wars there, and I remember this is the guy ten times more corrupt than anything he tried to attach to Snowball.

If you want any sourcing, I’ll be happy to provide a tutorial on how to use the google thingy. If you don’t want to know the truth, continue chanting “Nobel” as Little Rocket Man makes Dumbshit his bitch.

I think he’s gonna win the Pee Prize.

And this is not simply a sports blog.

          • Yes.

I was shocked to one day understand that many other people didn’t think deeply enough about most things in their life to truly care about them. It did explain a lot of my youth. I could get a competent conversation out of my family. But those who were overwhelmed with the philomath in front of them usually tried to pick fights or slink away taking weak pot shots… usually with terminology they didn’t understand… which bothered them more when I started to correct them.

It’s not now true. But thanks for opening the door to Dumbshit and his position on the self side of D-K. He the very best at it… the greatest ever… believe him.

          • Oh… and you can rail against anyone who says Trump has Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Yes, he exhibits all the traits of narcissism to a tee. But he’s not debilitated by it.

It’s unprofessional for any doctor to diagnose anyone with anything without the rigors of a proper, personal evaluation. And then it would be unprofessional for them to speak about it when they did a proper evaluation.

It’s also an insult to the people who have to deal with mental illness in any capacity by making it some political tool or joke.

  18. Good grief RPI is freaking stupid. We win 2 out of 3, on the road against USC (a team that beat Arkansas at Arkansas), and take a RPI beating down to #8.

Meanwhile all of these SEC schools rack up the quality losses against each other and watch their RPI shoot up. They wildly overvalue the theoretical strength of schedule.

They just need to admit that crowd size is playing a huge part in college baseball rankings.

    • RPI doesn’t matter as long as we get into the tourney. We go beat them all and win the championship then who cares. Until we do that they won’t give the conference or us respect. Same goes for football.

      • It does matter for getting a national seed, which greatly increases the odds of getting to Omaha.
Once there, anything can happen. They sure laid a turd yesterday.

  19. Assuming the rest of the top teams take care of business this weekend, beavs will need to take 2 to secure a top 4 seed. Win 1 for a top 8 seed. Get swept, bubble for top 8. Don’t think they have a shot at the overall 1 seed.

    Regional host is guaranteed.

None of the top 8 want to see osu paired with them for supers so they’ll be cheering for the beavs to take care of business.

  20. OT – Apparently Jace Fry got his first major league save yesterday and has 8 1/3 hitless innings since being called up May 4.

      • It was great. A lot of driving to get there and back, but the 3 days in between were a lot of fun. The lady’s family owns a lakefront cabin in WI so we all hung out there and had a good time. I forgot how much I hate humidity. Good reminder for that, too. Reason for the trip was they retired, so it was a celebration for them.

Thanks for holding down the fort.

        • Sounds nice. Never been up in that part of the country,

I’ll be in Denver for about a week in June for work. Will have to hit you up for tips on what to do with my downtime in the evenings. Haven’t been to Denver in about 30 years.

        • Where in WI is the cabin?
Make sure you watch the link for the softball game in this thread against the Badgers. It’s fricken hilarious.

        • Consider that Obama was more like Reagan than even Bubba was, and it all becomes clear. Those who whine about my rants about Dumbshit, the admitted sexual predator, were most vocal when Obama was POTUS… about not much of anything. They slung un-original names around like they thought they were clever. But they never really got into policy.

That’s two-part: They don’t know enough to discern what the policies were compared to any other time in history. They trust the propaganda of limited (sometimes singular) sources.

So now they whine when their loser of a pretend man is treated with the respect he treats them… even though they were whining for eight years about someone who was more similar to the right-wing hero than anyone has ever been.

I can go out and find some really lousy articles from the past decade that do nothing but suggest a couple rumors then run with some of the dumbest analysis I’ve ever read. The far right was so apoplectic, like when Dumbshit decides to insult the disabled, that they would simply apply labels and fill in the blanks with innuendo. And that was from otherwise staid institutions like the National Review and the Heritage Foundation. “Marxist this, and Ayers that,” they would say. Then they would point to a massive governmental gift to the insurance companies and pretend that it was a liberal thing to do… when in fact it was precisely the same as the massive governmental gift our government gives to defense contractors… always, for the last 40 years.

But man! That Obummer is a Commie socialist Muslim born in Nairobi, Kenya, in 1960.

That about sums up the thought they put into this. It’s probably why they don’t want to talk about reality, now or ever, when it comes to Dumbshit. They don’t want to admit they’re just suckers.

  21. P.S. Any of you guys live in Bend and willing to look at/pick up a guitar for me and ship it (I’d pay for both, of course)? This guy won’t sell unless the buyer is local.

  22. Our attorney friend, Martin Meyer, has commented on D1 with a link to his previous articles right here on AB.
If you are a facebook person, you can “like” his comment……..assuming you do like it!

Here is a portion of what he said:
“…I have written extensively on this matter in posts on angrybeavs.com on 2/14 5/9 and 5/17. It’s disgusting that the NYT and SI have resorted to tabloid style writing leaving out relevant subject matter in order to sell their product at the expense of this youth who is trying to build himself a successful career. It’s time for folks to climb off their moral high horses and leave this kid alone.”

    https://d1baseball.com/prospects/d1-analytics-top-senior-pitchers/

    • tried the link but it takes me to the D1 baseball paywall. Is there a separate facebook link I should be following to find his comment? or is a facebook account supposed to get me through the paywall?

      • ^^^^^OJ is correct.
Sorry, I should have been more clear. Right now Martin’s comment has three thumbs up, more than any other comment I saw on the “non-paywall” comments on the linked page.

The comments should appear on the linked page, immediately below the paywall ad, under the heading “Join the Discussion”

        • Turns out my adblocker was blocking their facebook comments. Tried a different browser and can see it now. Gave it a “like”

    • They realize Heimlich is going to sue their asses if he gets passed over in the draft again, so they cut Moron loose.

        • He has to prove losses.

You may be correct, because how hard do you think it will be to prove the differential between the truth and their defamation? The O and Dolphin Boy probably ran those numbers and went ahead and lied because of it.

I can’t remember precisely what the law says. I think he had 21 days to send a letter asking them to correct the defamation, and if they didn’t do it as prominently as they delivered the defamation, he has two years from the publication date to file suit. If he simply covered that contingency, he can have an agent determine better numbers or direct him to do otherwise.

I think there’s a lot of good that can come from it. If only the truth gets told, that would be enough for me to pursue litigation. But I can also see just getting tired of dealing with the system.

          • He can pursue litigation for per se defamation. The textbook example of it is when someone calls you a felon, and you’re not. I think that’s pretty blatant at this point. It’s also interesting when you read the law further. Apparently, every time it’s published is a new infraction. It doesn’t matter that you source the language from somewhere else. You are responsible for it yourself because you didn’t do what is considered to be your job and confirm it yourself.

So he has open opportunities to hit every one of the paste-and-cut versions that appeared recently.

Another thing I forgot… how likely is a jury to award him any damages given the subtext… or dominating text up to now?

      • He’s a good dude. A 6’8″ 300 lb beach bum who hates the ducks.

I always wonder what qualifies as a medical retirement. Do they have to get a doctor’s note saying they can no longer play?
Think guys who retire still hold on to their paid tuition bit no longer count towards the 85 limit.
I’m curious if coaches abuse this rule in order to create extra roster spots while not totally screwing a kid out of their scholarship.

Not saying that’s the case here, but he was healthy at the spring game a fee weeks ago

        • I’m sure as studies have now shown: anyone who has played past high school should be able to medically retire due to head trauma/brain damage.

          Even if it’s not official

    • A kid like that has 3 years left to play, that’s long enough term for me.

Doesn’t matter anyway, Simple Jack and Training Wheels don’t stand a chance against juggernauts like Purdue and Northwestern.

    • no chance he comes to the west coast to play, let alone Oregon State…he had offers from Tennessee, Penn State, and Notre Dame. He’s a really smart kid, but no chance.

  23. Too funny. Now Horton is said to be coming back for another year. How much of this decision was due to an Oregon AD with egg on it’s face because Kerry Eggers reported Horton wouldn’t be coming back and they were mad the story got out? Now they can say it’s fake news. Yay?

  24. Bob Lundeberg of the GT has become a “go to guy” for info on Beavs baseball, the piece he put up today may cause Angry to reconsider any favorable feelings he may have had for Lundeberg’s work:

“A culmination of several events led to Oregon State’s historic 2017 baseball season.
The ascendance of Jake Thompson may have been the biggest factor.
Thompson, who is now flourishing in the minor leagues…”

The piece is titled “Beavers aware of Sunday struggles ”

Casey is quoted regarding distractions, “We were swarmed by scouts and agents and people, and it was like we were at the baseball world of Disneyland down there…We’ve got some kids that are high-profile kids and those things are things they’ve got to handle, and they’ve done a very good job of it thus far. I have to give them credit because there’s a ton of distractions out there.”

Is it Thursday yet? Who is ready for some BASEBALL?

  25. Way, way OT (since there seems little interest right now in baseball)

Moran leaves the O to work on “progressive” issues. (could Lindsay, like her idol, return to Corvallis, airport or no)?

Lundeberg stays on top of Beavs baseball and thinks highly of Jake Thompson.

But, what about Austin Meek who, BTW, says he’ll be writing about swoosh baseball tomorrow, tweeting: “I just don’t know what Oregon is doing with baseball”.

Meek has written some thoughtful stuff for the sports section of the RG, including calling out slick willie for “struggling with the truth”.

Didja know Meek is a musician and writes of things beyond sports? I found this piece interesting:
Step Back from the Darkness (The Music of Hiss Golden Messenger).

    • I think he is a really good writer. However, he sided with Canzano when the Luke story came out – not sure, but he might have gone on the radio with him. As I recall, Meek seemed to believe that Luke shouldn’t be allowed to play baseball ever again.

      • Then he should lobby for legislation which says precisely that.

First, he would have to learn the truth about it. The point everyone who is frustrated with them over is that, even if Luke did it and is in denial, they are so far out of bounds given their positions in society so as to be negligent, at best.

        Dolphin Boy… glass houses… nuclear absurdities… blah blah blah….

    • Very nice!

“The girls that she’s gotten to know over the last year and a half are people that she loves to be around and all of them will still be around when she gets there as only two will be graduating next year.”

      • I don’t understand the dad. He seemed to want to push her away from OSU even though she liked it, saying he thought she’d commit to UCLA after the visit. Then he goes on to say OSU was the favorite all along. Dude seems weird and like he wanted her to go where he liked rather than where she liked.

        • They had a plan, and he was just commenting on where he thought she was leaning after each visit. But the plan was to collect all the info, talk about it during a cool-off period, then make a decision. He was just having a knee-jerk response to the plan being broken and trying to explain what that was like in real time.

  26. I know people on here don’t like OLive stuff, but Nemec’s attention to local recruiting is pretty decent for free, IMO. The FB coaching staff seems stupider than even I imagined. How do they not even talk to Michael Johnson Jr. Who cares if he’s not a good fit at QB or where his dad currently works. Beggars can’t be choosers. From a new article:

Perhaps surprising to some given his family ties to the Ducks, Johnson is also hoping to build a relationship with the Oregon State Beavers, who have a strong connection with the Johnson family.

“I’ve been trying to get in contact with Oregon State,” he said. “That’s a school that I would take a visit to. I’d be interested in that. Mike Riley has known me since I was born. I was born in Corvallis when my dad was (working for him). He coached my dad in the World League in the 90’s. He was my dad’s coach, my dad coached for him, and coach (Brian) Lindgren is a guy I’ve always liked – even when he was at Colorado I was really high on them.”

Johnson, an Under Armour All-American and Elite 11 finalist, is hoping to make a decision by early summer.

    • You really think he’d choose osu over Oregon where his dad is? Seems like a waste of time and official visit for osu.

      • He’s already parted ways with Hole.

I watched some of his video and it was not noteworthy. He’s athletic but not any kind of an amazing quarterback.

      • While I do side with Bill, that pursuing him would ultimately be a waste of time, my reasons for thinking this are different. Oregon is already out of the picture, as they have their QB already in Millen.

I’ve had two different people who have spoken with Johnson say that his interest is indeed genuine. On the surface, to me, it feels like another Bruce Judson like troll attempt. Maybe i’m not being fair though. He will likely visit OSU at least unofficially, and he knows our 3 headed QB coach already.

Here are the reasons it doesn’t make sense for OSU though.
        1. Dual threat QB. Every other guy we have recruited at QB has been pro style. Do we abandon our offensive recruiting philosophy to go after a run first QB? And what happens when he goes elsewhere? Do we switch back to a more pro style offense again? I guess when you’re at rock bottom, it’s as good a time as any to think outaide the box.

        2. He has top schools like Nebraska, Miami, LSU, NC State, Penn State. Does Oregon State even belong in that sentence currently? Maybe, best case scenario, we’re competing with those teams for recruits several years down the road, but not in 2018 at the most important position on the field.

        3. Paul Piferi looks to be priority #1. With him visiting this weekend and making a decision a week later, we don’t need a distraction in QB recruiting which could drive Piferi away from us.
Behind Piferi, our next desired guys would be Joey Yellen(pocket passer) and Weston Eget(pocket passer) By going after Johnson, we potentially scare off all 3 and are left back at square 1 of Johnson goes anywhere else.

My 2 cents, I think Yellen is head and shoulders above them all and should be the priority. I really think he is the type of QB you should build a team around.

Johnson is an excellent athlete and would be fun to watch for sure, but I dont like when a QB relies so much on their legs and their passing game is just so-so. What happens when an injury limits the running? The passing just isn’t there to make up for it.

Piferi would still be a nice pickup for OSU should they land him, but I have him at #3. Smart, talented, nice kid, good size.

Eget hasn’t been offered yet, but that will happen soon enough if Piferi verbals somewhere else. Eget is a dark horse/late bloomer who could end up being very good actually. His recruiting will take off as soon as he gets his first P5 offer and teams see him during his senior year.

  27. True to his word, Austin Meek did write about swoosh baseball today. Here’s how he begins:
As the George Horton era stumbles around the bag of year No. 10, one thing has become abundantly clear …
Oregon sees something in its baseball program that most of us do not.
Where most of us see a program stuck in decline, Oregon apparently sees a program on the cusp of a turnaround. How else can you explain the decision to give Horton a contract extension after last season, then announce plans to retain him after what seems likely to be the Ducks’ first losing season since 2009, the year they reinstated the program?…
I imagined Mark Helfrich seeing that news and thinking, “What did I do wrong?…”
