  1. PS. How has site speed been? For me it’s been a bit slow lately so I ran some tweaking and fine tuning this morning. Hopefully it speeds up.

  2. First….sort of. Angry doesn’t count. Go Beavs!
Going to the Minneapolis regional games. Go Gophers!
And screw the NCAA for pairing these regions.

    • angry–I find that if I filter my websites to delete “All right wingers”, the sites run faster than Brenda Tracy through the OSU locker room.

      It’s a joke, people!

  3. Let’s go beavs! As I peruse my Costa Rican website, I’m shocked to see that OSU is the wagering favorite to win it all. We are at +350, Stanford is +375 and Florida at +600. BG have fun at the games, and Minnesota is on the outside rail at +2500.

If only we had a third starter…

    • Ironically, the pefect third starter for da Beavs is a freshman from Gig Harbor, WA pitching for Minnesota. Throws strikes and doesn’t issue many walks. He is a 6’6” version of Andrew Moore as a frosh.
Last year we had the perfect pitching staff to win it all. Luck O da Beavs.

  4. Fina betting information for tonight’s game:

    OSU favored by 4.5 runs
To win $100, you need to wager $630
The over/under for total runs is 10

    Please play responsibly

    • Northwestern State will not be starting their ace Jerry Maddox:

Northwestern State will send left-hander Ridge Heisler (7-2, 3.01) to the mound against a yet-to-be-named Oregon State starter.

Heisler has spent all of his first season in a Northwestern State uniform in the weekend rotation, helping the Demons rank 18th nationally in ERA (3.33). He will face an Oregon State lineup that ranks third nationally in batting average (.318).

  5. Watching Oaklahoma vs Mississippi State… they don’t use the mercy rule in the tourney do they? This game might go on forever…

  6. Mississippi St hits 4 home runs, scores 10 runs and still loses by as many as they scored.

    SEC! SEC! SEC!

    • Ballsy move. Depends on which Fehmel shows up. Might’ve been waiting to see the final result of LSU/SDSU before calling it. I’d also save Heimlich for a potential matchup against LSU tomorrow.

Go Beavs with balls and sticks

  7. Is anyone actually at the game? Do those pitches look as far outside in person as they do on TV? Are we getting the Greg Street treatment again?

  8. Fehmel is pitching well, but Northwestern State has been able to get his pitch count up pretty quickly. Sitting at 40 through 3 innings.

    • Yup, the same jerks who won’t allow the display of K’s, the same jerks who won’t allow sale of beer in Regionals (but will sell suds at the CWS).
The same jerks who won’t allow bottled water into Gill for post season WBB.
And yet, none of those insulting actions compares to their treatment of Luke.

        • NCAA forbids the display of placards showing K’s to indicate strikeouts by the pitcher. That’s why some creative fans brought T-shirts with a large “K” on them so they could display without (so far) NCAA interference.

          • I don’t even know what the fuck that commercial means. I guess it’s trying to tell me that I’m such a backwater redneck that I could not consider the possibility that a college-age women wearing a hajib could be an athlete?

More bullshit from the NCAA when they have real issues to work on.

      • No walk up music either. Dancing Kwan was clearly not himself without ABBA.

PAC 12 goes 4-0. If the SEC was worthy of 11 teams, the PAC deserved 6 and Cal and Arizona should have been in.

      • They can all go fuck themselves. IMO, Luke has redeemed himself by being the best student athlete, teammate and citizen he can possibly be. All of these holier than though hypocrites like John, the DolphinII Boy, I’m sure have plenty of skeletons in their closet. I’d have a much different opinion of Luke had this happened when he was 18, 19, or 20, but 15….I think he must have had a pretty effed up childhood that led to his actions although I’m not 100% certain it ever happened. I certainly hope that a MLB team is willing to give him a shot and not just because of his talent but because he’s most certainly the least likely of players to ever have legal troubles again. Go Beavs and the rest of the Luke haters can kiss my ass!

        • One thing MLB teams should appreciate is Luke’s ability to focus on the job at hand, no matter the distractions. That’s a valuable skill and has been amply demonstrated by Luke over an extended period of time. Mental Toughness………in spades!

As for the Texas Ranges announcement that they’ll not consider drafting him, I’ll just say, “Matt Bush”.

  9. A 9-3 win to set up the Beavs/LSU matchup tomorrow at 7; Nick with a 3 for 5 night.
Larnach goes 1 for 4, but neither Kwan, Rutschman, nor Grenier are able to manage a single hit amongst them.

So, what is the takeaway? Madrigal is back?…Kwan et al are now really due?

      • I’ll be disappointed if there aren’t any college kid shenanigans tonight directed towards the LSU Baseball team. You get precious few moments like this in life. You need to take advantage of these opportunities when they present themselves if you hope to become part of OSU lore.

  10. That throw by Greiner on the DP was ridiculous. Probably never have a pair like him and Nick again.
Gretler’s last put out was also incredible. He will be a big loss. Beat them Tigers. Go Beavs!

    • That was an amazing DP. I was a little annoyed at Snow babbling about Madrigal’s hands over and over because you’re right, I thought Greiner’s quick, sidearm throw with mustard on it, made that play. And don’t get me wrong, the turn was great too.

      • Agree, Grenier was the key, and “sidearm throw with mustard on it” was what made the play.

Lundeberg retweeted a video of the play from someone named Josh Nelson, I don’t know how to link it here but it is worth watching……….a few times!

BTW: speaking of mustard, anyone taking turmeric supplements? Results?

        • I actually bought a bottle of Tumeric after reading a pretty convincing article, but then I discovered it has interactions with a medication I take, so I never used it.

          • If you’re on warfarin, then don’t take the capsules. But you can eat curry. I also like to curry squash soups. I can’t eat sweet fruit soups without that counterbalance. I also like hing.

          • If you’re looking at gut flora enhancement, greek oregano works well. It’ll grow like a weed in your yard. I’d give it a full square meter when established, and half that in height. It works well with the more acidic fruits.

I once had a dog that had a yeast allergy. The vet prescribed steroids, and that knocked it down for a while. But it wasn’t until I started soaking turmeric and oregano in chicken stock (for food… so minus all veg) and olive oil (for topical) that I killed it off.

  11. Why tf do the regional rules have Oregon State as the away team and LSU the home team tonight, despite OSU being the higher seed and host of the regional?
Will be weird to have them in the wrong dugout in Goss tonight

    • Home/Away team determined by coin flip, Beavs will bat in the TOP of the innings but will remain in their accustomed third baseline dugout.

What hasn’t been mentioned, to my knowledge, is whether or not the Home/Away roles will continue to be decided by coin flip or will be alternated.

Still, NCAA sticks its nose into EVERYTHING!

BTW: Rumor is there is some dispute over who supplied the coin, some say Mark Buchanan, others Greg Street.

          • I explained nothing.

            I asked two questions.

The home/away scheduling for regionals is the same as it always has been. But apparently we have to get all conspiracy dumb about the NCAA over it. There are enough real problems with the NCAA that we don’t have to add us being stupid about them to the list.

          • To be fair, he asked w(hy)tf are the rules that way. Which implies knowledge of what the rules are and doesn’t invoke a conspiracy boogeyman theory. Rather the view is these rules are designed poorly.

      • Seems to me the host of the regional should always be home team as long as they keep winning, otherwise not much host field advantage.

The NCAA isn’t interested in eliminating home field advantage or they could force all teams to travel and go to truly neutral sites by shuffling the regional seeds/host locations. OSU could’ve hosted the Corvallis regional but Beavs and Stanford swap sites, resulting in a truly neutral site regional. This is the facade of NCAA rules about signs, beer, K’s, etc. They aren’t interested in a truly neutral site, just flexing their control and gumming up a fairly simple and acceptable process: Straight double elimination tourney.

It’s tantamount to reseeding the bracket after round one. Host school remains at the bottom of the bracket and keeps home field advantage as home team as long as they win, too simple.

  12. Sigh. This happens every year in every regional folks. Florida State is the road team in their park in an elimination game today (SEC/ACC matchup, snicker). Stanford is the road team tonight against Fullerton at Sunken Diamond. Last year OSU was the road team against Yale in the 2nd game of the Corvallis regional.

Jack is correct in his statement. You’re making me agree with him here people! C’mon!

    • LSU sophomore right-handed pitcher Zach Hess (7-5, 4.43 ERA) will start for the Tigers vs. Oregon State senior Luke Heimlich (14-1, 2.49 era)

  13. Hess’ numbers don’t frighten but anyone who remembers Omaha last year, having him on the mound makes you nervous

      • Some help?

He had 8 inches inside and 15 inches outside, while we had 3 inches taken off the outside and maybe got 2 or so inches inside every now and then.

The question is… does Rutsch bat as a righty? Some of those strikes would have pegged him in the box had he done it in Omaha.

      • Funny quote from Hess that the beavers were very disciplined, same as last year only with an umpire that had a legitimate strike zone.

  14. Non baseball related. I wouldn’t be surprised if OSU picked up 3 verbal pledges for football by the end of next weekend(or shortly after)
Looking at Ryan Franke(OLB), Michael Erhart(OLB) and Paul Piferi(QB) as guys who we have a good shot at landing soon. Just a prediction.

    • I don’t know much about those first two, but Piferi would be a nice get. Possibly a franchise QB. He has so many offers and interest from academic powerhouses…going to be hard to keep him even if he does commit.

  15. Can you bring flags into the regionals? Thinking of trolling the UCLA fans with a Beaver flag. John Savage sat a few rows in back of us for the MN game last night. Without a baseball cap on he looks a lot like John Calipari.

  16. Per SDSU radio announcers – fire alarm last night in their hotel/ where LSU players were also staying. 10:30 pm – only 1 fire truck showed up – everyone was outside for 20 or so minutes.

  17. Florida State does it again. Martin must be senile to bring back a pitcher after a 2.5 hour delay and 100+ pitches.

  18. LSU forum is a cesspool (tiger droppings). 90% of the threads are about Luke and 90% are ignorant on any of the legality and proceedings of the case. Funny how they only care when they play him, talk about virtue signalling.

Hopefully we lay a beat down on them once and for all tonight.

    • Completely awful, I recommend reading some of their drivel in their forums(not the news feed, the forums) if you are headed to the game tonight, best to remember what we have visiting.

    • What do you expect? They eat fish that have high mercury content, which affects their ability to learn and distinguish their cousins from strangers. They’d have a very hard time contemplating that the justice system doesn’t care about innocence.

    • Hopefully just a product of the sun/shade going on right now between the mound and home plate.
Neither pitcher has looked sharp early

  19. Lot’s of LSU fans kicking and screaming about Luke and the child molestation story.
Not sure what they’re so angry about. Most LSU fans would never have been born if it weren’t for child molestation.

  20. Just one more gripe about the NCAA; their livestats are so much worse than we see during the regular season. Anyone have a link to something better?

  21. Would it be reasonable to replace Heimlich at the end of this inning so that he might be able to pitch a few innings later in the tournament?

    • He is at 85 pitches, doubt it makes a difference whether 85 or 105; might have made sense at 45. There is the mental aspect too. Eventhough he is strong mentally, Nate may want him to feel the coaches believe in him. There is the aspect also of saving the pen for later.

    • It was kind of weird though because the conversation I heard on the telecast, they did not mention that Bike had returned as part of the current staff (which is usually the big hook to the story). Also, a couple of times, they were babbling about Rutschman playing football and made it sound like GA was still the coach. Instead of ex-coach. OSU football is so far under the radar that sportscasters can’t get the basics right.

  22. Nice sportsmanship by the Beavs to give LSU that solo pity home run :)

Joking aside, I’m nervous. The bullpen or rotating starter #3 is going to have to win a game.

  23. Any chance Jake Mulholland gets the start tomorrow?

Satisfied with the ass kicking tonight. I’m not so sure LSU beats Northwestern St tomorrow

      • Thanks. Saw that from the GT write up. It will be all hands on deck tomorrow. If Abel struggles he may get an early hook. Let’s hope LSU/NWSU goes extra innings and the winner burns up their bullpen.

I am confident the Beavs can get this done with one fewer game played and a less taxed bullpen.

  24. Not sure if anybody mentioned it, but duck softball was elimimated tonight. Guess they’re not a softball school

  25. I’ve seen a ton of LSU fans posting pretty awful stuff onlune directly mentioning Luke’s niece or the descriptive details of the court documents as a way to get under the skin of OSU fans because Luke’s on the team.
Whoever thought putting the Luke story on blast in the papers over the past year would be a good way to protect the neice from having to reluve the past…….that plan has failed, miserably.

    • No journalist cares about protecting the niece when you have this type of a polarizing story that is only going to create clicks and reads. They can easily hide under the guise of her name not being made public. And that’s not even considering all of the underpinnings regarding who is telling the truth and how much detail a six year old really remembers,

I would imagine, now she’s being forced to remember/relive depending how much access she has to the media. It’s messy and I’m starting to think it will cost Heimlich a chance at MLB and a lot of people are going to be happy to see that. Inbred LSU fans only wanted Heimlich gone again, so they had a chance to win. They don’t care about the actual nuances of the case.

        • It was in Moran’s original piece. It was how he introduced the mother in one of the early paragraphs.

It struck me as odd. Do the health professionals out there know if child victims who tell their story years after the incident normally forget it, the investigation and the coaching for testimony? I understood that some victims shut the incident out as a way to cope, but aren’t they also victims who never disclose the incident because of that coping mechanism?

          • From personal experience, I never told anyone and I moved on to do normal shit a sports crazed nine year old would do. It came back to me decades later and I told my Mom. She apologized profusely for leaving me with that babysitter, but I told her it wasn’t her fault, how could she know? Maybe because it was just one time and I fought back, it did not effect me.

        • Seems like that was also repeated in the NYT and SI. If she ever happens upon a newsstand and sees Luke on the cover seems like that would be the picking at the wound more than him as a relatively unknown (in the bigger sphere of sports) toiling away in Corvallis on the field of college baseball.

    • How would they know what is in court documents? This is a concerted effort to keep the situation up front; had it quieted down, I think he’s drafted – now I dunno.

  26. Wow. Just watched the game on DVR. Looked like it could be a disaster the first two innings.Luke was way off, but made two great D plays to save himself.
Game here ended ay 12:35 in the morning. Very fun, but total high stress the whole game.
For you guys that went to the UCLA series at Goss. Do the Bruin pitchers always take what seems like hours between pitches? Their CF, LF, and 2B are really good. Their OF’s made some great throws. They are going to be really good next year.
    Rodent vs Rodent in Corvallis?

  27. I wish some of you with spare time on your hands could correct the Luke idiocy on tiger rant/ tiger droppings. Jack? I don’t have the time.

    • They’re so close minded that it wouldn’t make any difference. They only focused him as he was right in front of them. They’ll soon forget once NW St defeats them today.

    • For some reason they think the accusations and story give Heimlich an unfair advantage, or so it would seem. Not much talk about him until they started getting their asses whooped

  28. Regarding a third starter, what happened to Sam Tweedt? Didn’t he do well in his mid-week starts last year? I thought for sure he would be in the mix this year. I know he’s been awful in limited appearances. Did I miss an injury or something?

  29. Watching LSU/NW St. These LSU fans’ random sputterings of the drunkest-sounding baseball chants I’ve ever heard are hilarious and kinda pathetic

    • With Heimlich? I don’t know, it’s been discussed here before. I would think if it is even feasible, it’s coming after the draft and maybe after the season to avoid distraction.

    • Glad they did so we can put them out of the tourney. The way LSU fans gloat about knocking us out, you’d think they won it all last year.

    • He threw almost 50 pitches Friday against SDSU. Can’t imagine he’s going to be able to pitch very long

  30. And now we’ve arrived at our third-day pitching. Well, it’s been a nice season, everyone! Good luck next year :-)

  31. Kwan goes yard at the first OSU at-bat of the game. I can feel the racist comments from the LSU message boards all the way from here!

  32. Love how the SECSPN announcers don’t say jack about the ridiculous officiating blunders last year when LSU beat us in the CWS, but they’re happy to make all sorts of excuses for the Tigers tonight. They’re injured! They had to play in a tournament and are tired! Can’t wait to see what they pull out next. Long plane ride? Not used to cool weather?

    • You’re not wrong, but they’ve said plenty of good about OSU. So that makes the announcers one for three, which gets you in the hall of fame in this sport.

  33. I guess this is pay back for last year, but didn’t Beavs get sent to LSU’s Alex Boxx stadium about 7 years ago…? Fucking NCAA committee!!!

  34. Just left Goss after end of 7th and abel is going to be the next drew Rasmussen v2.0. This performance will really help his confidence going into the supers….beavs are really playing some great defense and the bats have come alive. Spoke with lsu fan on the way out and talked a little bit about Luke and told them to read article by Kerry eggars of portland tribune…of course I’m assuming they can read.

  35. Nobach killin’ it. LSU pitching not very good, but this lineup is just scary when they play patient. Nice to see the hitters extending the pitch counts. Minnesota has much better disciplined pitching, will interesting to see how the Beav batters approach the plate.

    • Nobach is starting to remind me a lot of Mike Lissman and how he came on strong for the 2007 team. I think he will be a key contributor if we are going to make a deep run.

    • He’s been pitching against quality PAC 12 teams all year. LSU’s overrated garbage probably felt like pitching against a high school team.

Hopefully he continues to develop and can start next year.

    • Abel has had two pretty good starts prior to tonight (Stanford and I can’t recall the other) but he got virtually no run support and the bullpen got bombed in the Stanford game. He’s been pretty good but tonight was a preview of just how good this kid will be once he develops consistent command of his fastball. He’s going to be a very special pitcher for the Beavs….

  36. The way I am understanding this bracket is that the winner of Minnesota/Beavs SR would face the winner of Stetson/UNC in Omaha in bracket 2. The CSUF/Leg Humpers winner would be in bracket 1. Is that correct?

    https://www.ncaa.com/interactive-bracket/baseball/d1/2018

BTW, you know for a fact that SECSPN is gushing over the possibility of 8 SEC teams in the SR’s. Could very well happen too as only Mississippi St will play in a winner take all game on Monday. The others all have no losses in their weather delayed regionals.

          • LSU fans had one upper section behind first base (and the LSU dugout), the entire section was not LSU, as the top 3-4 rows were Beavs.
They were allowed to hang an LSU banner (maybe 3’x5′) over a railing. They thinned out a bit around the 7th inning but a fair amount stayed the distance. Not too vocal after 2-3 innings.

          • which side is better depends on what your’re looking for. Shade on a warm day?–first base side.
Sun on cool or windy day?–third base side. closest to the best selection of food and beer?–third base side. being able to enjoin the umps or visiting team in “conversation?–first base side. quick exit? first base side.

    • Not much TV – but listened to opposing team radio announcers and some Mike Parker with Jim Wilson dilution. NWS and LSU very factual, some team-related tidbits but called the games pretty straight up. LSU announcers lamented not finding a good steak house – but lots of salmon. LSU with SEC conference sound bites – very professional. MP with fewer references to daughter Lydia, movies, 1908 baseball players.

    • I was on the old WordPress blog…so tough to read with the cascading replies. Much better format here.

      9 years? Wow…

      • That’s right. I do remember you from there. And Jack. Maybe a few others…we’ll see.

It’s actually 10 years for the WordPress one! F time goes fast.
We have Mamma Machado to thank for AB. She banned me for having the opinions expressed here, and I decided to go my own way.

    • I started reading and checking in daily back when the background was black, and I think you, Jack, and Beavgirl were the only people commenting. GWH was an early commenter as well.

I didn’t start actually chiming in until maybe 2010.

      • Angry-Thank you hard to believe that much time has gone by. Been a reader back to the WP blog-agree tough format then….like this much better. Just not one that has a lot to comment on.

Sure enjoy the analysis, the entertainment, though provoking topics and perspectives and occasionally some good music suggestions as well. Keep it up AB’s

        GO BEAVS!

    • I lurked for awhile. Made an account and posted the first time while deployed in Afghanistan (the name) during the football game vs TCU…

    • I think I started hanging out here in 2010. When did you run the “9-win cap” article. That is my furthest back thread memory.

  37. MLB first round draft tonight. Madrigal widely expected to go top 5 and would not slide out of top 10. Larnach also a consensus late first round pick.

  38. Where do you all rank the Beavers defense all time? Is this the best defense OSU has ever had? Not talking pitching at all, though the pitching is good, just talking about the fielding.

  39. I’m not qualified to say. However, when another team bobbles plays – like LSU did all weekend – I then appreciate the professional ease with which the Beavs field and I think that how they play is phenomenal. A rocket off the bat to Gretler – he does a ballet move to spear it – in what? less than a second?

  40. How about this from D1:
The Beavers apparently like when the selection committee sends an SEC team to their house. This is the fourth time an SEC team has been sent to Corvallis for the Regional or Super Regional finals and they’ve won all four matchups. In the two games vs. LSU this weekend OSU outscored LSU 26-1.

As to the longevity of the site, this old beav has been around a while, not the entire time. But, I do remember (before I had a smart phone) wondering what kind of pussies were so excited when Angry added the “Jump To Bottom” feature!

    • The SEC teams – and I think Casey commented upon this – refuse to schedule west coast teams ooc or in pre-season tournaments.

      • Beavs are in a similar position. Don’t need to travel to the east coast to prove themselves. Not a risk worth taking.

I would like to see them schedule big 12 opponents in the future.

The pac12 needs to start gaming the rpi like other conferences to get more teams in. It wasn’t that long ago where 7-8 PAC 12 teams were in the postseason. Part of the issue is that some schools that should naturally be good aren’t. Usc, AZ, Cal and ASU should be making the tourney every year with all the local talent around.

        • I don’t buy it. The committee is clearly catering to the larger SEC and ACC fanbases – where more $$$ are. I could get into that if the PAC 12 and BIG 12 were second rate conferences but they are not. Arizona could beat half of the field this year, but somehow are looked at like dogshit. Doesn’t help that there are bullshit tournaments with winners with losing records that somehow steal the Autobid – that is absolute garbage. The whole thing is unbalanced and unfair. Not sure why our conference leadership isn’t all over it.

          • Seems like conference play should already be viewed as part of the elimination process before going into NCAA tournament play. If you’re the 10th place team in any conference, do you really deserve a shot at the post season tournament? Texas A&M was 13-17 in conference. Sorry A&M, your shitty conference record proves you don’t belong.

Why not cap each conference at sending 1/2 of their teams to the tournament, max?
If you have a conference tournament champ who isn’t in the top half of your conference standings, then another team gets bumped out of the field.

          • I like that. You bump a conference foe out of the NCAA tourney if you win your conference tournament with the 6 ahead of you before the tourney. I guarantee the PAC 12 would have at least two more championships in the last ten years if minimum 8 PAC teams were invited every year — the conference increases their chances of having a 2007 like Beaver squad win the championship.

          • The conference tourneys are ridiculous. But if they exist, that scenario is fair.

What was Arizona’s conference rank when they won it?

          • Looked it up… they were 2nd.

All the talk of 2012 at LSU reminded me we were the last Pac team in, and ASU got screwed… iirc.

          • NiceBeaver – You don’t want to say that conference records have that much weight. the 2007 team would not have been picked for the postseason that year….

          • I’m not saying conference record dictates seeding. Let the panel choose the top 64 teams. Once your conference gets half of their teams in, cut them off.
Also, there would be a wildcard exemption for defending national champs ;)

  41. Football recruiting:
Interesting to see an in state QB with no D1 offers verbal commits to ASU today. Ethan Long out of West Linn.
He did visit campus this spring but was never offered by OSU. Had an offer from Utah and ASU, I think. I really dont know much about him, but would suck to see another under the radar local guy go elsewhere and excel after being ignored by the in state schools.

On the flip side, ASU was thought to lead for Joey Yellen, who I really would like to see the Beavs go after, especially if Piferi ends up at Purdue.

  42. I just looked at the bracket, If Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and Ole Miss move on to the Super Regional’s and then manage to have Ole Miss beat Texas and Georgia beat Texas Tech…you will have an all SEC bracket 1; which guarantees an SEC team in the final. On the other side of the bracket, if Mississippi State wins, it will be Vandy or Miss. St. representing the SEC in Omaha in Bracket 2. Man I’m hoping for some upsets to Ole Miss. and SC. I don’t see Georgia losing twice today, nor Florida.

  43. I’d guess wed or Thurs, since they don’t know what days they are playing. I think the beavs have always got the fri-sun schedule. Can’t recall them getting the odd sat to Mon schedule.

  44. Georgia just turned a 1, 6, 3 double play to end the bottom of the 7th; like Abel did to LSU to end the game last night.

    • I don’t get how the fuck the NCAA let him back out there for another tournament. The umping in the Corvallis Regional was surprisingly good. Just have those guys ump the entire series.

      • LSU fans were bitching left and right about the home plate ump in both games, especially yesterday.
I didn’t get to watch the game, but I tend to think the refs couldn’t have been “that” bad

      • I know. On the last Beav/LSU telecast the announcer was making a big deal about how the umpires were closely graded on their performances. What the fuck kind of grade could Street have earned last year?

  45. Watching Duke and Georgia in homerun contest. I’ve seen at least four homeruns….the pitching is very inconsistent — like watching Abel when he struggles. We are lucky to have absolutely great pitching for the last couple of years.

      • Something to use in recruiting…

Abel would have gone pretty high if he didn’t indicate he was going to college.

Grenier gets a slight downgrade. He’ll be picked by the 3rd round vs possible 1st from high school.

I don’t think anyone thought either were going to come to school and somehow both did.

  46. Duke’s looking poised to knock of Georgia in the Athena regional, leading 8-4 with 2 on. 3 outs away. Georgia’s broken nosed pitcher looks like Hannibal Lecter out there with that mask on

Florida Int is still up on Florida. Is this an elimination game for both teams? Not sure where that regional stands after the weather delays

  47. Sorry for all the posts. One more SEC update, Tennessee Tech up on #4 OleMiss , with one on and 2 out for TT Bot 7th.
Another SEC host facing elimination on ESPN currently

    • Tennessee Tech hangs on and wins 3-2. Won both elimination games today. Sayonara Ole Miss. Another SEC and national seed bites the dust. If FAU can do the same to Florida this evening, 5 of the 8 national seeds will be gone.

    • Update! Tennessee Tech has defeated Ole Miss in their regional. They won 2/3 games in this series against Ole Miss! So much for the elite SEC. if and when Florida loses to Florida Atlantic, 50% of the SEC teams will have been eliminated in the regionals. Only 2 teams are guaranteed for the SEC to be represented in Omaha if Florida loses; 3 if Florida wins. Here’s hoping Florida loses!

      • All rumors point to the 2nd round. I wouldn’t be surprised though if he goes undrafted again. Teams may decide it’s not worth the potential backlash.

        • Twitter is lit up right now with people being judge, jury and executioner in regards to Luke. None of them know what they are talking about. Bunch of keyboard social justice warriors and wanna be attorneys. I hope some team takes him, he’s done everything he was supposed to do.

  48. Wow, if Florida goes down there is not a team left deeper than Oregon State. With the late emergence of Abel we may get our redemption after all. Ball never lies.

  49. Florida Atlantic getting the Street treatment that last inning. Strike zone starting to get wider as the game goes on.

  50. Is this the latest attempt to undo Oregon State Baseball’s championship aspirations?
Complaint has been filed claims Oregon State is not compliant with Title IX requirements and purposefully overstating female athlete counts with men’s practice roster athletes in multiple sports.

Hopefully this isn’t a legitimate Scott Barnes fuck up.

    http://www.orangemedianetwork.com/daily_barometer/complaint-filed-with-doj-claims-osu-violating-title-ix-inflating/article_fc30b76e-676f-11e8-9539-67348bd60954.html

    • It’s the perfect set up. Casey wins his third ring, Barnes gets fired because of major Title IX violations, Casey takes over as AD.

    • But what if there are guys listed that identify as women? Does that change things? Seems like a legitimate question. My takeaway from that complaint that was filed is that dude is kindof an ass

      • Peculiar choice of words I would say: “Oregon State University needs to stop breaking federal law and screwing the majority of its student body that are women.”

        • Is it peculiar because the previous paragraph kinda gave us the numbers that most of us already knew?

OSU has always been in the 53-4% range for male enrollments. Im guessing they would be the actual majority.

          *attention to detail

    • I thought Title IX concerned itself with the amount of ships distributed and having relatively equal training facilities, not the total amount of participants on rosters.

  51. FAU pitching looks depleted. Just gave up back to back solo HRs. 5-2 Florida.
FAU has had plenty of chances but leaving lots of guys on base, and now Florida’s offense is starting to roll.

  52. Rasmussen will be a name to pay attention to tomorrow. Is there a scenario where he could come back and pitch for us next year? Eggers has said no but if the money isn’t there, maybe.

    • I talked with someone at the Stanford game that apparently knows drew and drew indicated he was coming back next year. I suppose that could change if he’s drafted in a pretty good spot where there is good money. We shall see…..

      • Doubt a team will take him in the first 10 rounds. They’ll wait until they are out of the bonus pool if at all. Hard to see him passing a physical right now. Who knows where he is in his rehab.

    • If he travels with Minnie Baseball next weekend, he can sit in the Malamud Room. I wonder if he’s oblivious to that connection.

He did manage to not use the word felony. He got the plea wrong, but the tone is notably different than the negligence/defamation of most of his predecessors.

  53. Time stamp on everyone’s post is an hour off…blog set to Mountain Time now that you’re in Colorado, Angry?

    • Should be “fixed’ now. I have to say, I hate Mountain Time zone. I’ve lived in every one now and by far it is the worst.

      • As a sports fan I’ve always thought Central and Pacific were the best time zones. When my relatives from the Eastern Time zone visit us here in the Pacific they just love the timing of broadcasts. the 10 a.m. kickoff for NFL games and 9 a.m for college football makes the best impression because, as they put it, they hate to wait around on game day for the action to start.

        • Pacific is definitely best. You can watch a game and then have your entire day to do something. Mountain is only an hour off that, but what sucks about it is that all times are either Eastern or Pacific. Those extremes make it easy to calculate the time of an event. I only lived in Central time for 9 months and wasn’t watching any sports that summer, so I didn’t care. But in Mountain Time it’s been annoying, and I’m going to be here a while. Eastern time sucks. Especially for baseball. I remember watching West Coast Met games as a kid, and we’d be lucky to get a half hour in before bed time.

  54. First game vs Minny will be 2:00pm on Friday
    Saturday will be at 6:30pm
    Sunday if necessary 6:00pm
    All games on ESPN2

  55. First game vs Minny will be 2:00pm on Friday
    Saturday will be at 6:30pm
    Sunday if necessary 6:00pm
    All games on ESPN2

    • It seems like last Sunday’s game was on every BSPN variant, and was changing during coverage. Even Beaver Baseball’s twitter was confused about where the game could be viewed.

Between the SEC slobbering and the rotating coverage, ESPN is virtually unwatchable.

      • Anybody else notice they drooped their coverage of the OleMiss game last night shortly before OleMiss lost the game?
Didn’t want to show another SEC series loss?

        • I did but found it on another network (maybe sec) when the Florida game started. Enjoyed seeing SEC teams lose such as Ole Miss and Georgia. Was really pulling for Florida to choke. I guess last year Florida went full games regional and super regional weekends obviously winning and eventually winning the championship.

    • angry’s 5th grade Catholic boy’s attempt at a pejorative aside, what in the world makes you think your post has any logic embedded within it?

Any coach who doesn’t have all his draft-eligible players drafted in succession to begin the draft is not a perfect coach. Anyone who is not perfect has warts.

Some people have skills and abilities that mitigate, even overwhelm the warts at times. But the warts don’t go away, and they pop up every now and then to bite any one of us in the ass.

Your primary wart is that you make little sense often.

Not being perfect is hardly a reason for you to go on a two-year rant whose only conclusion can be that Pat Casey is a perfect human being. I don’t understand why you think that’s a tenable conclusion for anyone.

  56. So Shipley thinks Heimlich will play against the Gophers. Wouldn’t it be a shame if Casey didn’t start Heimlich and the Beavs swept them? Give it up Shipley, Heimlich paid his dues and it’s time to move on. And what makes you so prescient to know the current and future mental state of the alledged victim?

    • This guy is hack that appeared about 18 months ago in the Twin Cities “media.”
Not worth even paying attention to.

  57. Elephant in the room, to me. If Luke isn’t drafted at all, and now some blurbs are saying he isn’t that good anyway, how will he get his head together to pitch this weekend?

    • Lol, who says he isn’t that good?

I’m not surprised he didnt go day1, just because day1 is heavily televised. Someone will take him today

      • If he does get picked, it’ll be after round 10 when the bonus slots end. I don’t see him getting picked at all though. A team will have to defend themselves from the media and their own fans. Don’t think they are ready to do that.

He’ll most likely get picked up as a free agent. Work with the team on a pr strategy before signing. That’s the smart move for a team and the move with the least risk.

I wonder if Luke has an agent lined up or have they stayed away too?

        • The media has fueled the fire, especially recently. It’s cut and paste; no research, highlighting indignant comments. IMHO, if he is drafted, the approach would be like Luke’s pitching academy guy: ‘We have drafted Luke Heimlich, an exceptional pitcher and fine young man. If there are further questions, please contact (team) headquarters. Fans might stay away at first – like people do when they boycott a close-by store – after a few inconvenient, out-of-the way stops, they give it up.

      • That was a good link. I notice his fastball gains velo in every piece written. This one has him at 97 now. He seemed to sit around 90-91 vs LSU.

    • He’s been dealing with that pressure for 12 full months. I don’t think it will faze him.

      At least I hope not.

  58. We’re late enough that any team wanting to take a chance and draft him would have. There’s too many marginal arms being drafted. Looks like he’ll go the undrafted FA route.

Hope he keeps his head straight.

      • This whole thing should have gone away now that his records are sealed and the fact that the citation he was originally cited for not registering was thrown out…it means he’s clear of everything. It’s like saying someone who got out of jail for serving time, should go back into jail even though they’ve done everything asked of them. It’s ridiculous how this taints his reputation from one article written. The public has become judge and jury of what people can and can’t do anymore. If this were printed and happening in the 80’s 90’s this info wouldn’t have gotten out so quickly. The internet is a double edged sword for sure.

          • You mean those poachers who kept breaking the law but kept getting told, “We’ll arrest you next time,” by authorities?

          • It’s a shame that those poaching arsonists will forever be associated (albeit unwillingly) with criminals and white supremacists like the Bundys. Those all hat, emaciated cattle types are a bane to real skirters of the law.

    • I think he’ll come. He’s a bit undersized right now. Listed at 145 pounds. Better for him to come to school. He got drafted much higher than expected. He may have indicated he’d turn pro for a certain $ amount.

  59. Kwan goes in the 5th.

Casey’s going to need to get all the recruits on campus to fill all the holes. The price of success!

  60. A lot of noise on twitter about Heimlich – people claiming they will stop watching baseball etc… whomever drafts him/signs him will face some initial backlash similar to how most people on here reacted when the news first broke, but they will then look into it and begin to support him the same as Oregon State fans.

I would think an added problem for Luke is that players get traded so frequently and Luke could be a difficult guy to trade given the baggage.

What makes my head spin is the hypocrisy of all this. When it comes to this situation, so many people seem to think it would be impossible for an innocent person to plead guilty. Pleading guilty when innocent is a significant issue in this country – this is why the Innocence Project exists. More than 90% of those found guilty is the result of a plea deal.

Finally, if the mother is so adamant that LH not be allowed to play baseball and she wasn’t sufficiently satisfied with the plea deal, then she shouldn’t have agreed to it.

    • i will do you four better…1) if the case was so iron clad against Luke, why did they even off a plea bargain to begin with? After all, molestating a child is an horrendous act right? 2) if the act is so horrendous, why was the presiding judge so complimentary of Luke during court proceedings? 3) by the mother’s own admission, her daughter has no memories of the encounters with Luke…as someone who was molested by my 15 year old female cousin as a five yr old and it’s not something you easily forget. 4) how often is the mother not awarded custody of the children in a custody situation….not very often unless there is something else at play.

I posted these, questions to an Oregonian online article and it was deleted….what a shock.

      • I would like this to be repeatedly posted to every news outlet and twitter troll. Great points and thanks for being willing to share your past.

  61. Drew goes in the 6th, very surprising. I guess he should take the money and blow his elbow out as a pro vs risking another year in college. Especially if he’s near graduating.

      • It’s a weird feeling seeing the guy you were just eating lunch with last week getting drafted to an MLB club.
Just hoping for the best for him that he gets a good opportunity to make a pro roster in the near future. He’s been focused on this moment for years.

I havr no idea where their minor league teams play. Time to do some research.

          • Thanks for the link, Beavs4life.

Can somebody help explain to me the difference between Rookie, league, Single A and Single A-short season?

His dad mentioned that all guys start out in the same league initially and then get moved around depending on what the MLB club wants to do.
Looks like Rookie league in Missoula would be the most logical starting point, but then the DBacks have their Class A short season team up near me, the Hillsboro Hops and then their regular Class A team over near Chicago.

I doubt he has any idea where he’ll end up at this point. Does anybody here know much about the minor league systems and how they place guys?

          • I follow MILB a little bit because I play in some competitive $ fantasy baseball leagues, and everyone follows prospects in order to get them cheap. From that, I’ve gathered most players start in rookie ball. If they’re good they don’t last there long and go to A ball. The highly touted prospects can skip right to A. What is interesting is most clubs consider AA the highest level of competition since AAA is a lot of washed up retreads who are older and just filling out rosters. So AA stats project better than AAA in many cases. The other thing is the league matters. E.g. The PCL (Pacific Coast League) is a hitters league so pitchers who do well there project better. Hitters who do well in the PCL have to be taken with a grain of salt. There must be a lot of info online you can sort through to get a better answer.

To me the lower levels like rookie ball are better suited for hitters than pitchers because they need to adapt to wooden bats. A college pitcher can likely skip it and go to A ball, IMO. College is not much different from A ball.

          • From what I’ve gathered so far (and you confirm) is he would start out playing rookie league ball, which is in Missoula(Missoula Osprey) for the DBacks.
Time to plan a family road trip to Montana and Yellowstone

      • thanks. the rest of my work day has turned into a waste, as all I’m doing is researching minor league teams now.

Small bit of trivia. He’s the last duck pitcher to get a W vs Oregon State. Hope it stays that way for a long time….

        • Learned that cousin Matt will be playing for the Hillsboro Hops this season. Great news that he gets to start his career close to home.

  62. Not calling it a failure just yet, but Greg Biggins at 247 has listed Paul Piferi to Purdue as his crystal ball pick.
If the Beavs miss out on Piferi, they’re likely to offer Wes Eget out of Santa Clarita, CA. Joey Yellen is still a possibility, but sounds like ASU picking up a QB yesterday hasn’t scared him away from that team, and they seem like the favorite to land him currently.

After that, I don’t know what OSU’s 6th string option is. Michael Johnson is supposed to take an unofficial visit, but with all of the official visits he has planned, I just see that as more of a courtesy/convenience visit, with nothing materializing.

i know for a fact that Eget would be receptive to an OSU offer, but it would be viewed as a means to getting better offers. If a UCLA or other southwest team starts to chase him, he would flip almost immediately. Eget should not be viewed as a fallback plan in my opinion. It won’t last.

    • I am happy for Kwan going in the 5th but is there any doubt that Gretler has the higher ceiling as he fills out that frame of his? Just shocked Gretler didn’t go higher.

      • Gretler is a senior, he has no leverage to return to school so they tend to drop and the upside is somewhat less since he’s older.

        • You are partially correct. Seniors get low balled since they have no leverage but that doesn’t cause a team to let them pass by in the draft. Teams are allotted a set bonus pool and they save money by low balling seniors with no leverage and getting juniors to agree to take less than slot value so they can offer more of the pot to a guy taken in a later round who may have otherwise been unsignable.

  63. i will do you four better…1) if the case was so iron clad against Luke, why did they even off a plea bargain to begin with? After all, molestating a child is an horrendous act right? 2) if the act is so horrendous, why was the presiding judge so complimentary of Luke during court proceedings? 3) by the mother’s own admission, her daughter has no memories of the encounters with Luke…as someone who was molested by my 15 year old female cousin as a five yr old and it’s not something you easily forget. 4) how often is the mother not awarded custody of the children in a custody situation….not very often unless there is something else at play.

I posted these, questions to an Oregonian online article and it was deleted….what a shock.

  64. If someone can find the link to today’s Joe Beaver Show, Dave from Tumwater just crushed it with an incredibly passionate, heartfelt defense of Heimlich and a resounding tirade towards all who have actually failed him throughout this whole slanderous process.

  65. Somebody on this site knows how to do that. I’ve never been able to figure it out. Yes, please, post it. Some twitter with OSU having 6 picks in the draft and a response that it should have been 7. I do wonder, with all the ranting, how many fans would actually boycott a team or give up on MLB altogether, as some have promised.

    • Most people are all talk, remember 2016 celebs from Hollywood were going to move to Canada if Trump won? I’m still waiting.

      • As I recall, that’s a 4 year occurrence. I think most GOP say they’re going to London or Australia instead… even though those countries could look past their racist tendencies to note that Obama is waaaaaaaayyyyyy to the right of them. I believe Limbaugh was one.

Frank Lutz was the disappointing one this cycle. Although, I do approve of the choice of New Zealand.

        https://www.cnn.com/2012/11/07/politics/us-election-bluster/index.html

I wonder what Old Bone Spur thinks of people who fly the Confederate Battle Flag. Certainly, those people who fly the symbol of a bunch of seditious losers must be the bane of Old Bone Spur, who took a knee for the duration of the Viet Nam Conflict.

        Sad.

        • We already know there are good people who fly the Hakenkreuz.

So… no biggie. I don’t think it’s any surprise that someone who had zero respect for any of his marriages has any respect for his country’s flag… unless he can rally the suckers.

I think most of the people who would leave if either side wins should go to South Africa or India.

  66. I smell a $50M + lawsuit against the Corvallis PD and possibly the Oregonian. I think Luke has a pretty good shot to win the case too…maybe based on invasion of privacy due to a wrongful citation issued by the CPD and libel by the Oregonian.

If he’s not drafted and I was Casey, I’d offer him a job on the OSU staff as an assistant pitching coach….

  67. i cant find today’s show, podcast is last weeks show with today’s date, probably because they talked about Luke. And I agree it was a really good one. Dave from Tumwater nailed it, along with some other callers

  68. Did a little snooping around on Twitter. Found Luke’s brother’s Twitter account. @calebheimlich. Apparently he’s the chairman of the Washington GOP. Good for him. I also found a picture of Luke holding one of his kids. Would you let your brother hold your kid if he plead guilty (and actually was) to molesting your other kid. Also gave him praise for throwing a 1 hitter. The pic is from last year. I really wish he’d do an interview and try to set this straight…

  69. Go take a look for yourself, I see a family resemblance. Might not be the “right” brother to do the interview.Forgot he had such a big family. The “right” brother attended at least one of his games this year so there’s that. I dunno …
