  1. Defensive mistake by the Beavers. Runner attempts to steal second with runners on first and third and Rodriguez should never have thrown to second and Smith has to have the awareness to know the runner from third will try to score. Really poorly done all around. Beavers down 2-0

  2. Seemed apparent after second walk that the Sooners were following BB’s advice to force the pitcher to throw strikes, which Dylan could not do.

  3. Unreal. Beavers leave the bases loaded AGAIN. What happened against UConn has carried over to today. This team is really bad with the bases loaded for whatever reason. Almost seems like they press and try to do too much.

  4. I don’t know. Last night Jim Wilson was on the OSU 1st base coach because he wasn’t warning the runner that the other team was trying to catch the OSU guy who had just gotten a hit that the other team was trying to catch him off the base as he rounded the corner. According to Wilson this happened twice during last night’s game.

Coaches not being aware of the fundamentals and ………..

  5. Another poor play by the Beavers on defense. No excuse for Dettman to not make the play there. This game has gone as badly as it could.

  6. Reese is not very good, he forgets to tell you the pitch, whether or not it was a hit or an error, where the runners are, all sorts of important stuff. Hope nobody is trying to keep score with just a radio.

  7. It should be 5-0 at the most. If Dettman doesn’t misplay the fly ball the last 2 runs do not score. The Beavers are just not doing the little things well. Schultz made two mistakes in the field this inning and Dettman in CF made a mistake. What went wrong against UConn is what’s going wrong today. Poor defense and not getting timely hitting.

  8. I’m in favor of this team’s execution at the moment. Now taking over/ unders by inning on number of LOBs left on. :-P

  9. The Beavers still have a chance in this one but the offense need to start coming through and they need their pitchers to step up. Still very early in this game but they need to start putting runs on the board immediately and start cutting into the deficit.

  10. So they beat the bad teams this weekend and lose to the good ones. Trouble is there’s only one bad team in the P-11. This is going to hurt.

    • They have time to figure it out. I wouldn’t panic just yet. Defense needs to be figured out though. Have to be better defensively.

  11. I think it shows how valuable starting pitching will be this season. This weekend won’t be a total loss as I think we have started to figure out our rotation. Fry pitched well and as long as we ease him back and he stays healthy and if Wetzel can continue to throw strikes, we just need that third starter. Childs is not that good and Bayliss hasn’t proved he can do it. The other question mark is Adam Duke, can he come back and become a solid pitcher? He’s got the stuff, but he has to do it consistently. If we can get those three going then it really helps the whole staff.

It’s been disappointing how inconsistent the defense has been in Casey’s last four seasons. I don’t know what we need to do there? I think we sacrifice defense to get offense which we despirately nede.

  12. Keyes has all sorts of problems with his swing. I’m not sure how much longer Casey can give him to figure out his problems. His struggles are really hurting the team. Also, he may be taking his struggles to the field. I know he was a key guy and you want to give him time but you can only do that for so long.

    • Don’t forget Danny Hayes, he was at .196 last I checked and Keyes at .204. Two returnees that you’d expect to be big this year.

  13. Smith doubles and runners could be on second and third with 1 out if Gordon doesn’t get picked off. Conforto needs to come up with a clutch hit now.

  14. That’s just bad luck for the Beavers. Decently hit pitch that just doesn’t fall. Been how it’s been going last night and today.

  15. John Tommasini has been swinging the bat well but has been basically benched this weekend. I don’t understand that. Considering Keyes is in a big time slump, just move Dunn to 3B, Smith to SS and put Tommasini at 2B.

  16. Wow. OU bailed out Wilkerson and the Beavers. He couldn’t throw a strike and they basically gave him a free out to end the inning. I will take it.

  17. I can’t remember the last time the Beavers had a 3-4 combo like Conforto and Davis. They’ve had guys with pop and some guys with good averages but never both guys with both pop and average and Davis launches one as I type this.

  18. Great comeback by the Beavers. They kept fighting and finally broke through in the 7th. Big win heading into conference play next weekend. Conforto and Davis were awesome as usual. Nice job by Rodriguez and Wilkerson to keep the Sooners off the scoreboard and give the offense a chance to comeback and they did.

    • So very good for the psyche of this young team. Lessons to be learned for sure, but reinforces the mantra, “never say die” .

    Beavs lose.

    Still #Beavlieving!!!!!

    • Well, even you have to admit when the team was down 7-0, couldn’t hit with RISP, couldn’t field it and couldn’t get anyone out that you thought the Sooners were gonna win big.

    • Haha. Where are you when I’m right, Beaverkman? Play both ways or no ways.

Had I known Oklahoma would give the Beavs 5 extra outs (~2 innings worth) and at key points in the game, I wouldn’t have written that so soon. Oklahoma has a solid club, though, so I figured they’d lock it up. Lesson learned. Weird thing is, I’m usually patient with baseball and rarely write a game off…it’s a strange sport in that no time limit means any comeback is possible.

  20. I was thinking they were going to lose, however I kept watching to see if they could pull it off and am pleasantly surprised. With these college teams and you get to last game of the weekend you get games like today. I was just giving you a little heck at your expense, I know you were still rooting them on.

  21. Other scores: Rice avoids getting swept by Stanford winning today, 1-0. Cal State Fullerton takes two from aTm, ucla sweeps Georgia winning 7-3 today, ASU over the dirtbags 6-1 to take the series, Cal wins at Nebraska and the fowl to the south blank UConn 4-0.
