Beavs finish an easy 6 game stretch today versus Portland. Game time is 3pm.

After Portland, it's back to reality, as the next four series are: UCLA, USC, Oregon, and Stanford.

View today as the final tuneup before a difficult back stretch.

  1. Actually, games against Oregon aren’t a series. Play them twice in the next 3 weeks with each being a midweek game. Don’t have series against them until the final weekend of the regular season. Good news for the Beavers is all of their really tough series are at Goss. Got USC, WSU and Utah on the road, UCLA, Stanford and Oregon at home. Very fortunate there. Beavers just need to win series the rest of the way. They can do that. Just need the bullpen to step up and do their job.

  2. Offense still not adding on runs. Something that they’ve had an issue with all season. Can’t relax, no matter the opponent.

  3. Another solid outing so far for Child. Throwing a shutout through 6. Now, it’s time for the offense to tack on some runs and build on this lead.

  4. Pat Casey won’t be too happy postgame. Offense has pretty disappeared since the 2nd inning. 4 hits and 4 runs through 2 innings, 4 hits in the last 5 innings combined and no runs. Not burying the Pilots.

      • Seen too much of this kind of game, won’t work against UCLA.

Some clutch pitching by Child (two K’s in the 7th) and one swing by Jake is pretty much the story so far. Soon we’ll see if our BP can perform.

Any number of Beavs still not swinging with authority.

        • It is same Beavers who aren’t hitting well. Davis, Keyes, Tommasini. Tommasini has struggled the last couple weeks, striking out too much but I think he’ll get it figured out. Davis has struggled all conference play and aside from yesterday hasn’t really swung it well all conference play. Definitely concerning. And we all know about Kavin Keyes’ struggles. Barnes swung it well over the weekend, I was surprised he wasn’t in the lineup tonight.

      • Sure isn’t. Seems to me like the focus just isn’t quite there today. That can’t happen. Team needs to stay focused throughout games, doesn’t matter if it’s the Pilots. Need to have a much better performance to take down the Bruins this weekend.

  5. 7 1/3 innings for Child, no runs and 9 strikeouts. Great performance. He’ll be on the mound Sunday against the Bruins, hopefully he can deliver a similar performance then.

    • If Child wasn’t pitching on Sunday Casey would have left him there through the 8th, but he didn’t want to overwork him today. Definitely understandable.

  6. Can’t leave runners at 2 and 3 with no outs and expect to beat teams like UCLA, etc.
Sheesh, two K’s and a popup and the runners are stranded.

  7. Unreal. Beavers’ offense today just hasn’t had focus at all. Should have gotten 2 runs at the worst in the top of the 9th

    • I’ve been trying to find out what’s up with that and haven’t seen anything. Also, still is listed on OSU’s roster. So, it is a total mystery right now.

        • His surgery in the offseason was to correct a problem. I wouldn’t say he’s a candidate to retire just yet. I think he’s going to redshirt and we will see what happens next year. Bet you he’ll be in the ‘Pen though. Wetzler, Child and Fry will be back, can’t see a scenario(If they’re healthy) where they aren’t the starter. If Duke is healthy he’ll be the #4 starter though/long relief guy. I hope he stays healthy, he has a ton of talent, would like to see him truly healthy at OSU.

  8. Sorry for being this guy… but I have to say I called this before the season started about Gorton. Dude just needed a chance! Now let’s hope he can keep it up because we’re going to need it if the Beavs are going to make any kind of a run at the end of the season.

  9. Went to the UP game today. I’m not sure if these little “tuneup” wins really mean anything once they get back into arguably the toughest league in the country.

I hosted a Duck friend today. I will be going with him on Wednesday to see the Ducks in Salem. JB

    • The Beavs and Ducks played at Keizer two or three years back, a great show and an intimate venue. Very pleasant crowd. I expect you’ll enjoy the game…..go Pilots!

Seems to me that the OS(U) marketing gang is missing a bet not playing the Ducks or someone at Keizer once or twice a season. Even on a weeknight fans from both Portland and Salem can make it to the game.

        • I won’t get ya started, but doubt JeldWen would have the nice “feel” of Volcanoes Stadium in Keizer, its small, built for baseball, and everyone feels close to the action with a good view.

Any Portland venue would have the advantage for fans from Vancouver and PDX but wouldn’t be as handy for fans from Salem/Albany, etc. I think that part of it would be close to a toss up.

    • The Arkansas-Pine Bluff series did nothing but hurt OSU RPI despite the sweep. The Pilots are a top 50 team and aren’t bad for RPI

      • Every team has one of those series. I didn’t mind the APB series. Having one more than one series against a team like that would not be good but I’m fine with one, always need a cupcake series. Next 4 games the Beavers have a chance to really give their RPI a boost. Home against UCLA for 3, Tuesday at PK park against the Ducks. Going 3-1 there would be big. They’re capable of doing it, just need to be focused and get the job done.

        • Yeah, I think its a by product of the stupid Pac12 setup. With only eleven teams, every program in the conference has to scramble to find a late season weekend series.

  10. Who was at the baseball game on Saturday? There was a hoops recruit with the coaching staff sitting in the 3B bleachers, and the one person I know who can tell me… can’t tell me.

And it’s not like the beat writers or “recruiting services” are paying attention.
