A 2-1 pitcher's dual is nice and all, but let's be honest, yesterday's lack of offense cannot make us feel good about today's chances. Nice to see Tony Bryant pitch some quality ball. The guy is a master at changing speeds and hitting location. I think his troubles this year are overstated, and the stats the result of a few bad outings. I'd be giving him the ball in the 9th.

Hopefully Danny Hayes is back in the lineup today. They'll need his bat. LSU pitcher Kevin Gausman is a projected top 5 pick.

Regarding the rotation, Child will go today versus a heavy RH LSU lineup. Wetzler will go Sunday, but that's not a great matchup for OSU (I would have preferred Wetzler in Game 1 and either Fry or Child in game 2).

If you're jonesing for some pregame drama, check out this LSU forum where the ever-classy-toothless-cousin-fuckers "tiger bait" OSU players and then fans. I recommend playing Dueling Banjos while reading to help set the mood. Someone (Michael Conforto, is that really you?) mentions angrybeavs on there!

  1. I think the site is really called “TigerBate” because its just one gigantic LSU circle jerk going on over there. They do have some funny and creative gifs from time to time though. They’re worth checking out. Osu fans will especially like the Chip Kelly ones from last year.

  2. wow retardation. watch them come over here and say things like “we gon’ skeein you fuuhckin beavers”

sheesh. makes me glad to have a setup here that is a. not retarded and b. mostly friendly debates

also is that really michael conforto getting in a flamewar with inbreds???? bahah

  3. What “beaver forum” do they keep talking about that is dead? This is about the only place outside of Olive where I see a decent amount of posts (not counting paid sites, I dont do that).

  4. We got 2 hit y UCLA and backed it up with 11 hits in the next game. The offense can bounce back.

I don’t understand why they think our guys should be scared by a 4 run ‘outburst’ by the LSU offense? Is that a lot for them? Have we not scored that many runs all season or something?

  5. Miami OUT.
Whipped by Missouri State Bears 12-2!, after losing 10-2 yesterday.
From what I understand, an excellent chance now for a Super Regional in Corvallis if the Beavs can get past the Tigers.

    • Lets hope for a big win today though. Playing with a loss after today could make that goal really tough. I am a lot more nervous than most around here. LSU regularly fields great baseball teams, not to mention their ace today. Throughout the season we have left several guys on base and that is something we absolutely can’t do today. I think we probably need about six runs to get it done today. Can we get that many against their ace?

        • Why are you nervous about Wetzler? I am only nervous if we win. By all accounts, Belmont should be ULM today. If we lose and play Belmont, I think Wetzler can do it. If we win, then we get a short reprieve before playing LSU. I am nervous about Wetzler v LSU but that is probably better than Starr v LSU (which is what would likely happen if we lose and have to use Wetzler v Belmont).

          • I should have clarified. I am nervous about Wetzler vs LSU. I think he’d be fine versus Belmont.
I’d almost rather see Schultz vs LSU than Wetzler or Starr. Honestly, I thought Wetzler would pitch yesterday’s game and Fry would pitch today. That would have been a better matchup.

          • Wow, I am shocked by that. I thought Belmont was significantly better than ULM.

And Angry, you like Fry better than Child v LSU? I generally am a person that would side with talent over matchups but the media seems to really be hyping Child as a matchup v LSU because he is a righty and their lineup is a righty. What do you think? I don’t think I know enough about baseball to make a call.

          • I just like Fry’s poise and confidence. He’s a real pitcher, and mature for his age. I think he is a guy who can beat LSU. I am not confident Wetzler can do that. He gets flustered more easily. Child is solid, and I’m fine with him pitching today. It wouldn’t matter to me if Child/Fry or Fry/Child pitched vs LSU. The order doesn’t matter. I think I read somewhere that Wetzler was ill yesterday? Is that true? If that’s true then it explains this rotation…

          • Casey said he was just fine, just had some forearm pain. Could have been potential dehydration. He should be good.

          • Oops, was already posted lol. But yeah, strangely I’m really confident in Child tonight. He’s had some big pitching performances against UCLA and Arizona this year. Even though that was at Goss, I still think he’ll pitch big today. He’s an ideal guy to go against LSU’s offense. He keeps the ball down and gets a lot of ground balls. He doesn’t struggle with walks like Wetzler and Fry do. The decision to start Child makes a lot of sense. Rodriguez and Hayes are back in the lineup tonight. Offense should be fine and if Child pitches well, the Beavers will win. I like OSU’s chances tonight despite going against Gausman.

If the Beavers win, look out for ULM tomorrow against LSU. ULM is playing well and LSU was fortunate they didn’t lose to them last night. LSU could easily feel a ton of pressure in that spot. They were a “lock” to go to Omaha, being in the loser’s bracket against a team who has no pressure and is expected to lose, that is not a spot LSU wants to be in. So, a Beavers win tonight would be enormous. If they win tonight, I think they win the regional.

    • He did that in 2009 and 2010 but Casey had him give up switch hitting in 2010 cause he wasn’t effective from the left side. Then against Oregon, Tommasini went back to switch hitting and in his first at-bat he walked.

  6. Scoreless going to the bottom of the 2nd. Beavers didn’t score there but Matthews and Tommasini made him throw some pitches. Rodriguez and Keyes did not do that. This is going to be a low scoring game, need Child to pitch big.

  7. Rodriguez blocks a bounced pitch, need to see him keep it up, his arm hasn’t been a problem but stops have been a different story.

  8. LSU getting runners home from second, Beavs not. Reminds me of how OSU would always settle for FGs and Oregon would always get TDs.

  9. Back-to-back singles by Conforto and Hayes. Big at-bat by Dunn. Could use a clutch hit here to get a run or two back

  10. Rhymes with a base hit. Runners on first and second and no outs. A free pass started the inning and now a wild pitch. Child’s command is off

  11. Back-to-back singles with 1 out on some breaks for the Beavers. Popup in front of home plate falls, shortstop’s flip to 2nd isn’t handled.

  12. Another missed opportunity… We should be leading this thing. If we lose tonight our shot at winning the regional is slim.

  13. Anybody here ever see that sketch on SNL where they spoof an ESPN broadcast, and its sponsored by Tampax tampons? The comcast announcer’s voice reminds me of that sketch. “This OSU vs LSU broadcast is brought to you by….Stayfree Maxi Pads!”

  14. OSU needs to get their bats working, keep it close. Can’t wait till the 9th to try to catch up. We have to do it now. Ducks 5-0 now.

    • This thing already feels over. Not going to lie, the inability to capitalize to this point screams choke to me. Maybe next year. If we get lucky Conforto may go into a massive sophomore slump like Keyes this year.

      • They’re down 3. It is far from over. And Conforto is on a level that Keyes has never been at. Highly doubt he’ll have some big sophomore slump.

      • don’t you think choke is a bit harsh? LSU spent most of the season in the top three or four. i don’t think it’s likely either, but if they can get a couple runners on for conforto or hayes there’s definitely still hope.

        • You are right about the choke thing. LSU is the higher seed but I just feel like they are choking in terms of actually scoring runners who that were in scoring position. But does anyone honestly believe that we can win. Objectively evaluating, I don’t think this team will win. I certainly wouldn’t bet anything I cared about on them tonight. And I am sure that supports the idea of the winner of this game winning the regional.

  15. 4-1 LSU after 5 innings of play. Time for the Beavers to make something happening this inning. Can’t wait much longer to start chipping away

  16. Gausman reportedly at about 100 pitches, really hasn’t been totally overpowering; maybe a new arm will change the Beavs luck??
    Better happen soon.

  17. Fullerton fighting back against Ucks. 6-5 bottom of 5th. We have got to get something happening on offense. If we win and Ucks lose, I am at first church service tomorrow morning.

  18. I am feeling pretty confident about my guess of needing six runs to win it. I am really wishing I was wrong and that we could’ve scored more.

  19. I had to step away for a minute. Anyone know why we switched to this guy with two outs to go in the bottom of the eighth?

  20. Offense going to need to come alive tomorrow afternoon. ULM will be tough. Winning 3 times in two days is extremely difficult but I think the Beavers can do it. Just need the offense to start coming through.

  21. Missed yesterday due to a fishing emergency.

Sorry I couldn’t weigh in on Tiger Bait… er… Corn Dog Bait.

I don’t know why SEC fans think the ancient Okie joke about NU fans is funny. And I don’t know why it gets to LSU fans. But corn dogs it is.

  22. Did you all know that toothpaste was invented in Louisiana?

If it had been invented elsewhere, it would have been called teethpaste.

    • Why do LSU Grads keep their diplomas on their dashboards?
So they can park in the handicap spot.

How many LSU freshmen does it take to change a light bulb?
      None, it’s a sophomore course.

Did you hear about the fire in LSU’s football dorm that destroyed 20 books?
The real tragedy was that 15 hadn’t been colored yet.

      • Heh heh…

How many LSU freshman does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

Zero. That’s a 300 level course in Baton Rouge.

  23. Conforto continues to put pressure on his shins by getting on base. I’ll take the RBI single but have concerns about how long he can hold up. 4-0 Beavs with two outs in the second, runners at the corners.

  24. Went through the entire lineup last inning, nice work. The forced pitching change is good too. If we have another big inning, do you think they pull Wetzler and rest him in case we play tomorrow?

  25. Offense is looking good today. They’re getting clutch hits and starting to hit a lot of balls hard. Good sign, need that offense against LSU.

    • LSU probably has a significantly more talented pitching staff though. Will our production fall off against them? Or do you think it will be a momentum type thing like basketball (just need to see the shot go in once)?

  26. Wetzler coming around, now a question of how many pitches he has left. Big advantage if he can minimize need for relief now that he seems past his early game troubles.

  27. Throwing error by Smith but good awareness by Keyes to try to make the tag. Fielding % has taken a real hit in the past two days.

  28. I think Casey put the team through some good batting practice since last game. Their hitting is much better………maybe because not under so much pressure as yesterday.

  29. Wetzler stepped up today. 8 innings, 7 hits and just 1 run. Really helped save the bullpen for the LSU game tonight.

  30. Not be an alarmist, but did you guys hear about the Mich State/ Nebraska game in the BiG 10 tourney? 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th with a 10-2 lead and they need a bad call to win the game.
A remarkable meltdown. Similar to what their football team used to do when John L Smith was coaching.

  31. I’m hoping we see Gorton at catcher in tonight’s game. It’s going to be tough to pull out a win and I think you’ve got to go with the more defensively sound guy behind the plate.

  32. Come on, don’t give me that BS about having to win this game. ULM is a .500 Sun Belt team on it’s 3rd pitcher. It’s pretty evident they would have nothing for the Beavers, wasting Wetzler on this game was monumentally stupid.
