They deserve a thread for the way they’ve been playing. They didn’t even play *well* tonight and still came away with the win because of their defense and control of the game. Utah controlled the tempo and forced more turnovers but OSU controlled pretty much everything else. With a tournament win I wonder if they can slip into a 6 seed in the NCAA.
Utah couldn’t buy a basket if they were given a Harry and David gift certificate. It didn’t help that they paused on just about every dribble entry and allowed our interior D to get position. I think they challenged our bigs four, maybe five times all game. Most of the time they tried to get weak shots off under the hoop with Ruth standing there waiting for tiny people to throw up a prayer.
The next thing for Ruth to do is to develop a baby or jump hook. There’s no reason she should be dribbling across the lane then shooting a 3/4 angle scoop around extended arms. She needs to put the defense on her shoulder and shoot over them.
several of the projections I have seen have them as a 10 or 11 seed. Which is bullshit. I’m sorry but a team that tied for 2nd in the Pac-12 is deserving of a higher seed than that. I’d like to see them beat Wazzu tonight and get a rematch with Stanford. Would love to see how the lady beavs matchup with the conference big dog.
I was at the game. Pretty impressed with the talent Rueck has brought in. Those gals can play some ball. Also impressed with Mandy Close as assistant coach. Very easy on the eyes:-)
I read about women’s hoops and am of course very impressed by Rueck….I don’t get that pundits are still talking about “if” they get in to The Dance. Shit, you finish 3rd in the P-12 and it’s not automatic? Is it because the league is down this year or just no respect for the Lady Beavs?
East Coast bias is due to people out east not watching West Coast games. Now compound that by making it a sport nobody watches in the first place.
We should be fine due to RPI alone. Winning 10 (+?) to finish the year also helps with the selection committee.
I guess it’s appropriate to give BDC credit for this hire since he comes in for so much criticism here (and deservedly so). The ultra cynical will perhaps look at this as the blind squirrel finding a nut, be even so. . . .
So Bobby D digs a huge hole, hires Rueck who is just now getting them out of it and we should pat Bobby D on the back? Isn’t this cycle of expectations what this site is against?

Beav women taking care of business so far up 33 to 20 at half. Stanford women lost so if Beavs hold on they will play USC for Pac 12 tourney championship. Not bad for a team picked to finish in the bottom 3rd of Pac 12.
They were up by 20 last time I checked. It looks like they have a great chance to get their 11th straight DOUBLE DIGIT win. That’s domination. Rueck better get P-12 coach of the year.

Looks like Rueck took halftime adjustment advice from CR
Coach made two big mistakes in the second half.
1. Didnt switch to man d soon enough. It was clear SC had figured out how to exploit the zone but he stayed with it.
2. Didnt have the beavers attack the press once they got the ball past half court. You always have numbers on you beat the press so you should attack. Instead the Beavs pulled the ball out and let SC re-set their defense.
