    • Miller is annoying as hell, but he seems to have been able to bring Arizona back to a elite level again. I was kind of hoping it was the end of Arizona after Lute retired and the O’Neill debacle. They must have amazing facilities, they didn’t really have a basketball tradition until Lute. I’ve always hated Arizona hoops because their ascent took place as the Beavs were descending into oblivion.

  1. A few days ago a few of you were talking about a thread on blitz being removed by the admin. Someone said “The ranter/admin in question thinks he’s hot shit and no wonder, folks cower to him including some of the other admins. Too much ass kissing and “thanks for all you do” for stuff that’s pretty basic. I’ve really lost a lot of respect for that site and have much more respect for what Angry provides us. Thanks again Angry (no brown nosing implied, genuine gratitude).”

Was this about an admin on blitz or PO?

I have never been able to access PO. I have been into Beaver message boards since about 2007, and have tried several times to join their group but they won’t approve me for whatever reason. It feels like a big time clique.

I have been on blitz on and off a few times. I went through a big period of time where I wasn’t subscribed and just recently re-subscribed with all the news about Riley/Andersen. I think the post counts on the site are very low compared to around 2008-2010 and their bottom line has to be suffering. I am also afraid to post on there because it seems there’s a few jackasses that have to say something rude. The content is also lacking that is written by the admins. I can find good info faster on Twitter. I am probably going to cancel my subscription in early Feb.

      • What strikes me is how poorty designed Blitz and Pure Orange are and they look about the same as they did 5 or 6 years ago. Who the hell has the patience to follow their threads even if they had anything to say.

      • And most on PO don’t know shit about football. I read it for laughs though. Such as earlier this year when someone suggested Caleb Smith return punts cause of his great hands. Or, during the coaching search, someone brings up Ian Shields as a candidate.

    • It was about an admin on Blitz. I look at all the sites but have frequented AB the most lately just because it’s REAL. Sure, there’s the occasional a-hole on any board but at least you can tell the truth here. Like minded realists/pragmatists?

    • pure-orange is badly coded and poorly run, I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re not ignoring you but just not getting your sign-up info.

    • Well, they may not have actually kicked ass but they did win!

Being there for that was terrific. Unfortunately They would not show the signs I brought, at least I didn’t see them on screen. A couple time they panned to me and I could see the white of the sign and then they cut away.

  2. Beavs go from 2 to 0 in the NBA pretty quickly. Moreland out with season ending shoulder surgery, poor Cunningham traded by the Clippers to the 76ers and then waived. Maybe Brent Barry can come back for one more time with the Spurs?

  3. Mike Remmers graded out very poorly in his game last night.

    Mike Remmers, RT: -6.9

Breakdown: The former undrafted free agent put in some strong early showings for the Panthers in their run to the division title but was found out in the last four games, in particular last night by the Seahawks’ trio of edge rushers. Remmers seemingly couldn’t get to grips with the speed of Cliff Avril in particular, surrendering pressure inside and out to the Seahawks’ defensive ends in almost equal measure.

Signature Stat: The seven pressures Remmers surrendered last night (2 Ht, 5 Hu) were as many as he had surrendered in his first five starts for the Panthers.

  4. Speed rush has always been a problem for Remmers. Hence the false starts. The issue with OSU was that he should never have been moved from right tackle to left tackle. No line depth is fault of coaches/recruiters.

  5. OT- is it just me or does it seem odd to put Tressel and Bosworth in the hall of fame?

Bosworth had enough success and notoriety to earn it, at least looking at only his college career. And he was an admitted steroid user (cheater) but is hardly the only one.

The Tressel thing I guess bothers me because he still has a show cause penalty in effect (essentially a ban from coaching) due to his role in the tattoo cover up thing. Not saying he has accomplished a lot, but it just seems like that situation is still pretty raw to be ignored.

  6. Anyone else actually a fan of the Pac-12 scheduling for hoops? Since there is geographic congruency throughout the conference (two each of LA, Bay, Oregon, Wash, Rockies, AZ), pretty much you play two road games that week or two home games barring your rivalry game. I somewhat enjoy that players are traveling to kill two birds with one stone and not missing a ton of time away from home sporadically like in the Big 12 or ACC, but the chunks seem easier to deal with.

    • You would think recruits would be lining up and excited to play on a team where they have a legit shot at playing. Maybe they’re just not fitting GA’s system/style.

    • Looking at those offers he had, can’t say I’ll miss him. About time we started going after legit people instead of just looking under rocks for unknowns.

  7. LadyBeavs up 13 on the ucks with 7 min to go in first half.
Mandy with the ponytail, that schoolmarm doo is now just a dim (and unfortunate) memory!

UPDATE: 33-16 good gals at the half. On PAC12 Net.

      • They should have a flop reviewer as one of the officials at all basketball games (including nba)

        Flop = foul
Flagrant flop = ejected for a half

We might never witness LeBron play again

    • as you previously noted – are they letting the shot clock run too far down? One of the recent game announcers suggested that, as well.

  8. It’s probably by design, but Gomis is the one getting open looks. Unfortunately, I don’t think he is up to the task of scoring 14-16 points. What’s with the foul discrepancy at home? Beavers are going to get respect soon….so the officials need to adjust their thinking, this is not CR’s matador defense.

  9. Yeah, I totally don’t understand the game of basketball anymore. What is no longer a fould, double dribble, travel, etc. basically i know if it goes in the hoop. I was turned off of basketball for too long and all the rules changed apparently. Nonetheless this team is much more fun to watch now with clearly better cosching.

  10. “The Beavers win! The Beavers win!” – Parker

    SWEET.

Tinkle going to be COY if this keeps up. Not just the winning, but the D, the confidence, the complete change in the team….

  11. Incredible!

I think Tinkle has a better win in his first year (with less talent but great effort, heart, and defense) than CR had in 6 years!

    • Maybe we need to re-think phrases like “less talent” because these guys are good. Maybe not as individuals, but as a TEAM!

The game is being re-broadcast on Fox S1 at 8 am this morning. It wasn’t good enough being there, I need to see it again!

  12. March of 2000 = the last time the Beavs beat a top 10 team; and WBB is there to help celebrate, along with Brent Brennan.
Its a great day to be a BEAVER!

    • NIT? Fuck that!!! Why not the big dance???? With all due respect I would take an NIT berth in a heartbeat. I’m just on cloud nine with this win and thinking bigger

      • Well yeah, if we get an NCAA invite, definitely go there. As great as this win is, don’t think we’ll get that until next year though, when Wayne’s first batch of real recruits come in and we get some actual offensive firepower.

      • Well, we gotta get much better on the road… But I wouldnt put anything out of reach of this team and Tinkle &Co….

But you cant ask for a better example of the possible rewards if you play the system and put it all on the floor. This should lead to better on the road.

        • agreed. And honestly a road sweep is possible this week. UW and WSU are not world beaters. I’d be shocked if we drop both games up there.

  13. “In this league, if you get in a little bit of a rut, there’s nowhere you can look to try and get healthy. You’re playing someone really good every night, and we just happen to be playing a great team on Sunday. But we’ll put a plan in place, we’ll rest up and we’ll bring our hard hats and lunch pails on Sunday and see what we’ve got.” — Tinkle

Ha! Sounds a bit like Riley, but much different results.

  14. 2nd half FTs the difference, cats 10-17 and Beavs 13-17. Though the Beavs shooting 64.7% from the field in the 2nd half didn’t hurt either.

  15. Fucking INCREDIBLE! ….holy SHIIIT….

Kept waiting for AZ to put it away….just a mini run to do it, probably…. But we kept the intensity UP….never let up! Holy….

    • I thought that deep three they hit that cut it from a four point lead down to one was going to be the ‘yep thanks for playing’ moment, and that AZ would run away in the ending. I kept waiting for AZ to take control and not get my soul crushed. But not in our house now! I hope us fans can also quickly adjust to winning expectations.

  16. God, this team, with so walk-ons, has to be feeling so good. Confidence will continue to build, so important to this program….awesome.

  17. That’s two games in a row where the Beavs executed better in crunch time than the opposition. That’s coaching and it’s coaching that gives the players confidence.

    • Yeah….and seeing that if you keep whaling away, keep at it, keep struggling, you CAN WIN …. even against superior talent. A great incentive for the rest of the season.

  18. In post game interview, Langston Morris first acknowledges Beaver Nation, then teammates, then coach. Tinkle lauding home court crowd…great attitudes and great way to build genuine rapport with fans and longer term home court advantage.

Tinkle references Andersen’s quote about “following a voice” to come to OSU, and Tinkle’s similar thoughts that this is “meant to be,” says he got emotional thinking about all of it.

So amazing to have quality coaches that want to be at OSU/Corvallis…

  19. Tinkle is doing this with Craig Robinson’s second string plus GP2. I guess CR could recruit, but recruiting talent is kind of pointless if you don’t know what to do with them.

    • CR’s coaching ineptitude aside, just as the “can’t recruit to OSU, who else could you get to coach” mantra has mostly been put aside, perhaps we should also dispel the notion that the players have but little talent. I really like how WT talks about the rest of his staff i.e., mentioning Coach Rupp and how he has worked with Olaf.

    • That’s great! Thanks for that link. What I can’t get over is what you see when you scroll to the bottom of that list…all of the teams that CR scheduled over the past several years. He seriously scheduled the absolute worst Division I teams possible.

  20. Tinkle out coached Miller tonight. That last sequence was awful. And why they didn’t use Tarczewski more throughout the game. Gomis finished with 0 fouls.

Let’s see if they can keep this up for a bit. It seems like OSU has let down right after big wins. UW is in a free fall and the Beavs are coming off the biggest win in the last several years. Sub plot – It’ll be Payton II vs Kemp Jr. Battle of the sonics legend’s kids.

  21. Do OSU’s coaches now seem to be closer, or did they have good relationships in the past? I mainly track football here, so it may be that I haven’t noticed here before.

Recently, at the Andersen introduction/rally, he was offered the chance to wrap things up at the end by Parker and Andersen said (paraphrasing) “Tonight it’s all about the women’s basketball team, let’s go cheer them on to another victory!”

Last night, in his post-game interview, Tinkle referenced “Coach Andersen’s” story about “hearing a voice” and coming to Corvallis, and Tinkle expressing a similar feeling.

I understand the WBB team was there last night, not sure about Rueck(?), I’m guessing he was.

There appears to be a strong unity amongst the coaches; part of it may be with Tinkle and Andersen being so new to the Athletic Department and coming in in the same year.

I think these behaviors are great for the Athletic Department, and indirectly may benefit recruiting. When there’s a professional culture of competent coaches who know they’re winners (Casey, Rueck, Tinkle, Andersen…) and athletes and recruits are interacting at these events, it has to be attractive to recruits in any sport.

    • Absolutely. It proves the family culture and all that too. When you can spot football players at womens basketball and mens hoops at soccer. Syd was distracting the foul shooter vs AZ. The QB recruit Moore hopped on Twitter after the hoops win. Indirectly one sport can help another.

      • Right on. Parker said Coach Brennan was on the floor celebrating with the team. Didn’t know Syd was distracting the AZ foul shooter. You can see her celebrating and some Tinkle in the locker room on this vid:
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_MkIedXSsY

BTW: Tinkle and Rueck to be on radio Tuesday night.

AND: Stolen from whodat18 on O-Live, “Somewhere in the afterlife another more cigarette is lit in celebration as a smile crosses a weathered face. “

    • I spoke to one of the coaches a while ago and I asked him if he ever met with the other sports coaches and if they talked shop about coaching. He said not really because rarely were they ever in town together (different recruiting calendars). And the offices aren’t all in the same place so they just don’t run into each other all that often. Football is in Valley, bball in gill (now bball facility), etc.

But the players are pretty close, they see each other all the time in study halls and weight training.

      • Part of Andersen’s intrasquad competition involves giving points for FB players attending other sports events. I wonder if other coaches also encourage that type of thing.

Seems good to me, but does anyone think it is too “forced”?

I did see Garrett and Cav at a baseball game right after Garrett was hired and in town without family. Ah, the sad old days!

    • I don’t know their names yet, but you have to include coaches for: soccer, volleyball, gymnastics, wrestling, rowing, track.

Right now every coach we have is a winner!

      • Yupper, and lost in all this is wrestling’s take down of Stanford. I hope as long as Andersen is urging football players to attend other OSU sports, some of them will go to so-called minor sports events.

    • What in the hell is wrong with people?

Bring the “civility” back to the civil war? What is this the YMCA league?

For the record, if we ever make it to the playoffs, let alone the NC game, I couldn’t give one shit whether or not the Duck fans root for us. In fact, I’d expect them to root AGAINST us.

      Go Buckeyes!

    • This is just embarrassing, frankly. I’d be equally embarrassed if the university was throwing a pro-Buckeye viewing party because that would wreak of jealousy, but how about the school just ignore the NCG altogether? Ugh.

    • I’m all for sportsmanship, players and fans composing themselves with self-respect and respect for others, but this is ridiculous:

“The Memorial Union would like to invite you to participate in an activity intended to bring civility back into the Civil War! A National Championship Duck Game Watch party is being hosted in the Memorial Union Commons on Monday, Jan 12 starting at 4:30. Large screen projection, free snacks and community! Individuals wearing green and yellow can enter into prize drawings! #beBEAVERBOLD, join in the fun! ”

Using OSU resources to host this? Prize drawings for wearing duck colors when the Ducks are not wearing Duck colors? How about a prize for the best Nike tattoo for chrissakes?!?

What did UO do when OSU won the college world series. Twice. Anything? I mean, besides restart a baseball program.

The Mariotta Heismann congrats was fine, this is ridiculous.

    • And the pussification of this generation continues. This watch party is the worst fucking idea I’ve heard of in a while. This is just embarrassing.

    • Is it worth communicating with the point person on this stupid idea?

      robin.ryan at oregonstate.edu

Damn! I thought Bob D. was making some good decisions lately, he should have put a damper on this early on. ObjCritic, GWH, and ElectricEye have said it very well, this sucks.

If an excuse for a party is needed, how about a rally in recognition of both accomplishments yesterday?!

      • I just sent her an email letting her know (maybe it’s a him) that this is the Mother of Bad Ideas. Wearing the uck colors in the MU should get anyone a prime time beat down. Who the hell thinks of this shit. Call or email your displeasure!

      • I don’t know if BDC had any say in this at all.. For that matter it could easily have been something that flew completely under the radar, ‘student experiance’ is a little below AD.

      • This has nothing to do with Bob, this is a Student Leadership and Involvement event. Again, it has nothing to do with the athletic department.

      • Pathetic!! Why is OSU even promoting this? Emailed Robin Ryan, tweeted to OSU_MUPC and bebeaberbold to support the Gymnastics event tonight not this crap!

  22. The Andersen hire, Women’s basketball success and national ranking, and men’s win over UA is giving OSU the best press its had in months, and they market this crap?

I recognize OSU’s recent athletic developments aren’t going to compete with the NC game in the press (even if UO wasn’t in the game), but why on earth detract attention from OSU Athletics and towards UO at this point?

    Immensely stupid.

  23. The MU is hosting a watch party tonight and giving prizes to people that wear green and yellow…..

I don’t even have the words for this…….

Just flat out in shock that anyone on that campus would think this was a good idea…..

  24. You want a place to watch. Fine and great. Do Not Do Not throw together a green and yellow party. Nothing like shooting our recent moment in the foot.

  25. Someone who is more well spoken than I needs to call JoeBeav on KEJO, the show runs till 2pm although it sounds like Parker is leaving at 1.
    541-497-5356

      • One caller got through to Parker just before 1:00 when he was signing off. Parker totally caught off guard and was incredulous. This was news to him, he seemed to have trouble believing it was for real. Pretty sure we could have blown this thing up if there had been more notice; still, maybe the students will see that it is a flop.

When this fiasco is going on at the MU the 11th ranked Beavs gymnastics team faces #5 Bruins at Gill.

  26. I was asked on a conference call today with my peers from PDX as to whom I was going to support tonight…I replied “I never root for the Ducks”.

Why is that so fucking hard to understand?

    • Just penned by Whiskey on fb. I’m sure it will rile up the duck fans feathers……..

Some of these responses about duck fans are hilarious. And true

“During the past 15 years, the level of smugness and general lack of respect toward Oregon State from Duck fans is enough that it prevents me from having even the slightest amount of interest in them doing well. As the football team has continued to improve, the amount of smugness (especially from “fans,” not alumni) has increased to go with it. I shutter to think of how unbearable they will be should the Ducks win the national championship.”

“They’re like a horrible blend of the New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys with the aesthetic sensibility of Zoolander. Speaking of aesthetics, my rivals have ruined the look of an entire sport.”

And then there’s what I always say. If the ducks were playing al qaeda this weekend, I’d be rooting for al qaeda. True story, while walking into the bathroom with my son roller skating Saturday night, wearing a dodgers shirt and broncos hat, some 12 year old all decked out in duck gear flashes an O with his hands to me and says go ducks. What, if anything I’m wearing says I’m a duck fan? Or even give a shit about the ducks? That boy was probably retarded, parents are retarded and he’s gonna have a job with his name on his shirt someday. I have zero problem with the ducks team. It’s the johnny come lately, band wagon fans that have made everyone that isn’t a duck fan hate them. Good job. Go buckeyes. But I don’t care for either team to even bother watching.

      • those first two quotes are from an article and site I cannot link or mention. I only wrote the first two sentences and last paragraph

  27. You guys realize we just one of the favorites for the final four, and the very next day they want to wear green and yellow??? Hell NO. NOT IN OUR HOUSE. What part of NOT IN OUR HOUSE is being miss understood?

  28. U don’t know any students down there anymore but I cannot imagine this will go over well, I hope O-H-I-O is the loudest chant there followed only by ‘take it off’ every time someone comes in wearing green.

    • I can’t imagine the students would do it. Earlier today I saw a young guy out here in rural eastern Oregon proudly wearing an OSU Beavers sweatshirt, new logo and font.

      FTD.

      • I’m still hating the new logo and always will! The yucks are a step above that piece of crap in my book.

As “Angry Beavs” we should be shouting for the Angry Beaver logo to be brought back.

    • Frankly I can see the whole thing getting ugly. WTF is the person responsible for this thinking? This is seriously a borderline fireable offense in my opinion.

  29. Related (?) to this idiotic idea of wearing green, yellow, grellow, silver, pink or any other ‘uck dchool colors to watch the game at the MU, I saw some moron storm the court wearing ‘uck gear last night. What a dumbass. Your shitty team is a few miles down the road. If you’re wearing ‘uck shit, keep it the fuck off our court.

  30. I hate it when hole fans say “I root for the Beavers every game but the Civil War.” To me it’s apathetic and only goes to show how 1 sided the rivalry has become in recent years. They no longer respect us as a rival. The only acceptable reason IMO that a Duck fan should root for the beavers is self serving: ie. wanting to beat a ranked Beaver team at the end of the year to help with schedule strength and to crush the rivals souls.

FTD. All dam day, every dam day.

  31. Honestly, I am so excited to see what dumb Nike slogan gets slapped across tee shirts for the winning team. Do we think they made the exact same slogan for both teams? Will there be kids in Ghana wearing the slogan with the losing team’s colors within a week?

I think we should start making some guesses here:
    1. What will the dumb Nike tee shirt slogan be for the winner?
    2. What color(s) will Nikegon’s be (note: as stated above, we’ll have to wait about a week to see them if they lose)?

My guess is going to be “PLAYED OFF.”

Hey! It’s no less dumb and makes no less sense than the other slogans they’ve put out… and I just can’t remember… because the only thing not forgettable about them is that they’re just stupid.

One thing is probably a surety. NIke can’t be so lazy that they go with, “JUST DID IT.” That would make me angry.
    http://designordeath.com/wp-content/themes/DESIGNORDEATH02/scripts/timthumb.php?src=http://designordeath.com/images/just-do-it-nike-sweatshop.jpg&w=220&h=340&zc=1

      • I dunno if I’d go that far. Let’s see how they do this weekend and go from there. If they can get a sweep on the road, then I’d agree with you. Still have an RPI of 79. That isn’t going to get you into the top 25.

        Losses (RPI and Ranking)

        Oklahoma St (22/23)
        Auburn (134/NR)
        Quinnipiac (171/NR)
        Oregon (71/Others receiving votes)

I see two bad losses in there

      • Washington RPI 69
        Washington St RPI 165

UW with 4 straight losses after starting out 11-0. As long as Romar is there they will always underachieve and play undisciplined. I see a pair winnable road games here.

  32. According to an article from the Statesman-Journal the organizer of the MU watch party is Taylor Sarman, Associated Students of Oregon State University president. Anyone here care to send him an email or tweet?

  33. Jay Irvine has received an offer from Wake Forrest. Sounds pumped

    G.O.E?? ?@Jay_underrated1 55s55 seconds ago

My Offical Offer to wake forrest Univeristy???????? Work my whole life for this???????????? @WakeRivals @CoachCohenWake @Coach_Jackson #BlessedAndHumble

  34. I sent an email to President Ray, the Dean of Student Life, Bob DeCarolis, and Robin Ryan (everyone should also send passionate but respectful emails):

    Hello,

As a Beaver who attended OSU for both undergrad and graduate school recently, I was very excited about the new changes in the Athletic Department. I was especially inspired by the new attitude of not being content to take a backseat to anyone, and by Dr. Ray’s speeches about how “this is our house.” With the new coaching staffs and facilities improvements, plus great things being achieved by our basketball teams, Beaver Nation has been energetic and full of life! I even made my first donation a few weeks ago.

Then I woke up to this:

Timeline Photos – Dean of Student Life – Oregon State University | Facebook

“The OSU Memorial Union would like to invite you to participate in an activity intended to bring civility back into the Civil War!

    Hope to see you there.”

    ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!

“Bring civility back into the Civil War”? To make sure I’m not going crazy, I looked up “civility”. I found “polite, reasonable, and respectful behavior” and NOT “officially rooting for your main competitor.” The Mariota ad was classy. This is ridiculous, and I am appalled that Oregon State is sponsoring such an event. How about sponsoring a celebration for the OREGON STATE basketball teams who are having fantastic years? How about supporting the gymnastics team as they take on #5 UCLA tonight?

This goes beyond “civility” and into kissing duck behind and waving the white flag. The Ducks do not represent the State of Oregon. They represent the University of Oregon. We are not the University of Oregon. Official events like this undermine the recent messages, enthusiasm, and goodwill. I would just about rescind my donation to the athletic department if I could. That is how upset I am by this, and I know I am not alone.

So much for “not in our house.” Apparently, we root for Ducks in our house! Coach Tinkle coined the phrase “Oregon State? Dam Straight!” NOT “Oregon State? Go Ducks!”

Please support Oregon State athletes, not the U of O program.

    • Great note. I sent Robin an email as well. Tried calling but didn’t get her. Is she an employee or a student? Personally, she needs to take a long walk off a short pier. She can hold hands with the Student Body Pres nimrod. FTD.

  35. Fucking unbelievable. I hate the fucking ducks and all of their asshole fans. Funny, people look at me and are usually appalled when I tell them I will not root for the Ducks in the national championship game and that I disagree that it’s “good for the State of Oregon”. Fucking retards. Like hell it is. It’s good for U of O, Phil Night, and Nike. It’s fucking worthless to me, my family, my job, my quality of life, and my relationship to OSU of which I’m a fan and an alumni.

    • Lettuce chimes in via twitter, “Trevor Romaine @_TrevorKeith_ · 2h 2 hours ago
The viewing party that @oregonstateuniv is throwing is disgusting.”

    • How ’bout the kid who helped him regain his balance after the pick and then threw a decent block? Kinda think I’d like to see him in orange n black.

  36. We need to revoke all funding from whatever University program is behind that. I bet the question of soending OS money on this would poll extremely low. I dont know where the money for this is, but the are obviously using university funds inappropriately to give away food and prizes to uck supporters. NOT IN OUR HOUSE!
