  1. I like these matchups. Beavs main problem is a lack of post presence and none of the possible opponents have much of one either. Don’t turn it over vs VCU and run OU off the 3-point line and were in the sweet sixteen. Easier said than done but it’s possible. Much better than a second round matchup with Kansas

  2. I never would have even guessed in my wildest dreams at the start of the season that the Beavs would get a 7 seed. I simply dreamed that they would make the tourney. Very impressive.

      • that was actually only 2 years ago. March 19, 2014. In what eventually turned out to be CR’s final game where in the post game press conference he stated “If I get fired, it’s been nice knowing you guys”

        • You’re right, of course. Seems so long ago, or just that the Beavs have made such great strides it shouldn’t be so short.

I do remember some negative comments about the wt hire, with implications that he only made the tourney because of a weak conference. Bobby D lucked into a few really good hires at the end. OSU is lucky to have Tinkle.

          • Whiskey isn’t always right. I seem to recall being just meh with the Tinkle hire and probably even stated so here. I was onboard with Ben Howland as the hire. But hey, I can honestly say I am happy to be wrong.

I swore the season before Robinson was fired I was done paying to watch games at Gill until he was fired. I took a wait and see approach with the first season under Wayne Tinkle. But they brought me back to Gill last year for some of the Pac-12 games and we went to several this year. Tinkle and the team have brought me back. And I am considering season tix for next year. I’ve paid to see some awful basketball at Gill in the past 20+ years. Cloud nine this evening. 26 years is waaaaaaaay too fucking long! Thank you Wayne Tinkle and team!

      • Yeah, not sure you need to run down cr. Not a good coach but no denying he helped stabilize a real shit show and form some sort of foundation for wt to build on. Jay John, um, well…

        • Agree CR had some positives, but unfortunately he couldn’t coach, and was disengaged from the games, always having his hand propping up his sour face.

    • You can only thank CR for the position we’re in today. He got good recruits (Berto, Collier, Cunningham were all 4 stars), they generally made a positive impact in the classroom and in the community, got the practice facility going, and he was the one that got GP1 involved in the program again, even before GP2 committed. After 0-18 with Jay John we were the tomato can of the Pac-10/12, so I wish him the best. He raised the bar even if he couldn’t get to it himself.

  3. When they fired CR I bought a bottle of Scaldis Refermente and put in the basement to drink when they made the dance. Man does it tastes great. THANK You Coach Tinkle!!!!!!

  4. Do we know the start time of the game yet?

Anyone know if Tinkle has been ruled out?

I kind of want to drive out to Oklahoma City (Oklahoma is only one of three states I’ve never been to, so this would be a good excuse)…but worried about the long, depressing drive home if they lose.

  5. Michigan, Tulsa AND Vandy lol? They need to start limiting the alcohol in that room apparently. Michigan w all of FOUR top 100 wins.

    • I’ve seen Michigan in person. They are missing their best player, but can be a really tough team if their shots are going.

      • The fact they’re missing him is just yet another reason they shouldn’t be there. They were lucky to even beat NW before their last second win vs the Hoosiers. Then they got blown out right away against Purdue

    • St Mary’s (RPI 38)
      San Diego St (RPI 41)
      Valparaiso (RPI 49)
      Monmouth (RPI 52)

Mid majors get left out in the cold whilst Meechicken, Vanderbilt, Tulsa and Syracuse get in with worse RPI’s

Syracuse with an RPI of 72! That has got to be the highest RPI for an at large selection in the history of the RPI. The selection committee continues with some head scratchers. They’ll say they value RPI, but that appears to only be the case for power conference teams

Whiskey pats hissefl on the back for calling Oregon as a 1 seed last night.

      • It’s has to be pretty unique for a power conference to win 24 games and not be selected. I guess South Carolina really played a shitty schedule, but it looks like they beat Tulsa. When UK is down a little the whole SEC suffers?

        • 72 is the highest ever I believe. South Carolina wasn’t supposed to be good until next year so they scheduled an easy non conf. Guess it was too easy. The sec didn’t game the rpi like the pac 12 did. Everyone will try next year.

  6. Glad the Beavs made it in. I didn’t think adding a bunch of good freshman to a bad group of upperclassmen would get it done, but they got it done. Can’t be right every time. Go Beavs

  7. Half our players had their phones out pointing it at themselves. I must sound like an old man, but Jesus Christ, It’s already on TV.

    • That’s when you realize you are your parents or the grouchy old man down the street. Now you’re behind the times. Kinda sucks doesn’t it. Their generation doesn’t know anything before smartphones. And like the last generation who didn’t know what it was like before the Internet.

        • Ah yes.

I remember the days when nobody owned their own phones or the lines running to them… yes… phones were tethered and leased.

Or I’m just living that reality now with so many externalities in so many other markets that it looks like the same old same old.

Oligopoly and monopoly suck the invent right out of inventive… like it’s just another self-feeding, soul-sucking bureaucracy… which it is… so there’s no need for a simile.

  8. Congratulations to the Beavers finally making another NCAA tournament. My only regret? That I could very well miss the game entirely because I’ll be on a plane to Peru…

      • I know, it’s terrible. Forgive me, Great Beaver in the Sky!

Now I’ve seen the tip-off time though, I’m feeling happier. If I remember correctly, the tip-off coincides right with my group’s three hour layover in LAX, so I may be able to watch after all.

        • Flight to Peru? I go to Peru every couple of years to visit family. I hope you’re flying LAN, by far the best flight in and out of Peru.

          • Me and several other people are going for mission work there. Last time, I flew with American Airlines, which was pretty good. I’ll actually be using LAN this time, so I guess I’ll see how nice it is!

  9. Glad we get VCU the year after Shaka Smart got hired away. They were often one of those Cinderella teams that everybody loved. Now, theyre just another team getting by on their reputation.
Unfortunately, seeing Tinkle2 hopping around doesnt give me much hope that we will see him again this season, but I think we match up well with VCU size wise, at least. With only 1 guy at 6’10” and nobody taller, Eubanks has a good chance to be a factor offensively and defensively. If only Olaf had a post game…..

  10. I like our spot. I think VCU is an extremely winnable game, and the crowd really won’t be into it until GPII or Drew dunks on someone, then the crowd will be on our side. VCU doesn’t have many impressive wins. Most of the teams they beat were nail biters against teams I think we’d beat more easily. And they lost to teams not as good as us. On a neutral court, we beat ASU and were close against Cal, so I actually think we can win this first one.

Oklahoma was really good but not red-hot down the stretch which benefits us to some degree. In exchange for playing a team that is beatable because of their lack of post-presence, we pretty much have to play them in a road game. They got an incredible draw. I highly doubt we win that game, but GP2 guarding Buddy Hield ought to be fun to watch.

Personally in my brackets, I’m gonna use a combination of factors to decide what I think happens: Kenpom, style of play (a team that lives by the 3 will die by it too, slowing it down limits possessions and increases variance), and location for the most part. It’s so much chaos that I have to just shoot for the sky.

    • Vcu played 6 or 7 major conference teams and lost them all. Thatguy is right….they had 0 blowouts all close games…even I losses. They remind me of OSU, by playing to their opponents level. This is a very winnable game with a close finish.

      • best wins were St Joseph’s and St Bonaventure. Close losses to Duke, Wisconsin, Florida St, Georgia Tech and Cincinnati

        • Interesting stat I just saw….Vcu has no wins against current tournament teams this year. Don’t know if that’s true or not I don’t have time to check right now. OSU has several.

          • Not correct. They beat St Josephs, Buffalo and Middle Tennessee State. What’s mind boggling is they only played 7 of their 34 games vs NCAA tournament teams this season. They went 3-4 in those games but only two of them were played after early January and they lost both (Dayton and St Josephs in the last 8 days)

Meanwhile the Beavs played 15 of their 31 games against teams that made the NCAA tournament. They went 7-8 in those 15 games.

    • The Beavs are mostly used to playing on the cusp of the witching hour. One can only hope the early time doesn’t put them off.

  11. Also, I think we’re gonna be the only Pac-12 school with both the men’s and women’s teams making it to the NCAAs. I’ll be watching tomorrow to see where our women go in terms of region. Hoping for Dallas and staying the hell away from UConn (who will be in the Bridgeport regional).

        • Probably not since he was ruled ineligible for the wooden award. Lsu couldn’t certify that he was academically eligible for the award.

          • the article I read stated the minimum GPA to be considered for the Wooden award is a 2.0 GPA. When informed he wasn’t eligible for the award by his uncle, Simmons allegedly told him “all I care about it is winning”

So in other words he had no intention of ever hitting the books and being a student. Not sure if I’d throw a boatload of cash at this guy if I were an NBA team owner. He doesn’t sound dedicated. At all

    • On one hand it would be funny, but the PAC, including the Beavs, benefited from the perception of the strength of the conference. Having the yucks get bounced early would give the east coast, who’s never watched a West coast game, ever, fodder for why 7 teams should not be included but vandy, Monmouth, etc all should. Be perfectly fine with them getting dumped by Baylor though.

      • Maybe but I doubt it. They already played and beat Baylor in November at TATT. If that matchup were to happen it would be in Analheim

  12. May 21, 2014 at the introductory press conference at Gill………………………

“We’re gonna make Oregon State basketball relevant again”

    Wayne Tinkle

  13. Washington the only Pac-12 team in the NIT. Will ASU or Stanford opt for the CBI???

Another worthless fun fact. Oregon St won the CBI in 2009. Who won it the next year in 2010? That’s right, Virginia Commonwealth

  14. We’re in the same region as the quacks. Boy are they gonna be pissed when we bounce them and they’re 1-2 against the Beavs this season ;-)

  15. I wonder how pissed off eastern types would be if cal gets to the final by playing Hawaii, South Dakota St, Colorado, Arizona, Oregon.

    • Man, the CBI field is pathetic this year, no major conference teams at all. I’m wondering if majors are waiting for the “Vegas 16”?

      • Wouldnt surprise me if it had a few major conference teams.. Its not a pay to play and it takes place over straight days in Vegas.. why wouldnt you want to play there?

        • actually, invited schools need to fork out 50K to cover hotel and air fare. But yes, totally better than a CBI pay for play arrangement

  16. So I’m reading some prognostication on the tournament and I roll across Jay Bilas’s bracket. Hes got VCU as a final four team. Because their style of play will dominate the west bracket……Um ok, they couldn’t beat a major conference team all year and laid an egg in the a10 championship but they’ll make the final four.

  17. My biggest worry about the first round match up is the start time 10:30 am pst, plus you add to the fact daylight savings this week and there internal body clock says 9:30.

    • Yea but the game is Friday.. Daylight savings today and I’m sure they fly in probably Wednesday or so.. I think their body clocks will be fine

        • Not sure why people hate on CR so much. He did a lot of good things for the program. I mean people were worried he was going to use OSU as a stepping stone after the first year. He was a stand up guy, ran a clean program. Recruiting was good. He got the most out of 0-18 guys in year one. Unfortunate he hit his ceiling in coaching potential but all the stuff he did building a foundation was great. Tinkle didn’t have to start with nothing like CR did.

          • “Tinkle didn’t have to start with nothing like CR did.” Ummm, you sure about that? Gomis, Reid, Olaf next to 0 production overall. Malcom and Langston very minimal production. And, was it 8 walkons? How about we say a shit load of walkons. Gp2 was the only bright spot, really the only guy on the team that would have started for any pac12 team. The rest would have sat on the bench, or never been on the travel team. Thats pretty equal in my mind.

          • Nope.

It’s not at all if you go apples and apples. You decided to go with oranges for some reason. And even that doesn’t fly. Our GSR was in the tank when CR got here, and his mandate was to get it out of the red first. There were no grade issues or questions of academic dedication when Tinks took over.

He’s not making excuses for CR’s inability to develop and adjust in-game or comparing it to Tinkle’s ability to do so. He’s talking about the program as a whole. CR failed in the win column. But he was a successful builder of a solid program, bringing us into the 21st Century, if you will. And Tinks (and we) get to benefit from that now.

  18. Question for the group. Should OSU entertain giving Tinkle a contract extension and his assistants a raise? Too early? May not be long before another school comes sniffing around

    • Since it’s a six year deal and he’s been here 2, I could wait one more year. Perhaps increase his NCAA tournament bonus for next year and then offer an extension. If they make it in, he can demand more money but OSU will then be able to pay more for a lower risk proposition.

    • He’s getting bonuses, so are the assistants I believe. Let him get us to the tournament next year then give him more money.

    • it’s too early right now. Tinkle’s name hasn’t come up in any rumors. I think OSU waits. Any move Tinkle would make would likely to a high profile program. It doesn’t seem like any big time program is coming open anytime soon. Maybe Louisville but they would go with a high profile coach or someone from a good mid major like the Wichita St coach.

      • Agreed, too early. Also must consider GP2 being ridiculously good, and a lot of the recruiting so far coming from staff/family connections. Sustainability is a question mark so far.

    • My impression is that Tinkle is here for the long term.

Of course, that has nothing to do with offering him extensions, more money, etc.

      • Montana probably thought that too? But agree too early.

Let’s not get too excited, BDC tripped over his own dick with the CR contract, as an example.

    • He’s not going anywhere as long as Tres is here, so we have at least 3 more years of Tinkle.
I think he loves where he’s at, so I’m not even sure he’d leave then, but probably for big money and a challenge.

  19. Some interesting info here. VCU was the last team in not in the first four. Had Memphis beaten UConn for their conference tournament championship, VCU would’ve been bumped to the first four and Memphis as the conference tournament champion would have bumped Tulsa to the out and into NIT. First four out were St Bonavanture, San Diego St, Monmouth and South Carolina. Still no explanation for Vanderbilt and Syracuse

    http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/14966925/ncaa-tournament-tulsa-golden-hurricane-last-team-field-thanks-uconn-huskies-win

    • OSU really benefited being in a power conference. I thought the seeds would have been flipped vs VCU or matched up as an 8/9 game.

    • Lunardi nails it by bringing up how hard it is for a team w/ Syracuse’s schedule to STILL have an RPI as poor as 72 lol. I mean St Mary’s was half that w/ a terrible schedule….which ironically is hard to do playing such low ranked teams.

    • according to that Joe Lunardi ranked 72 out of 144 bracketologists in the internet in getting the teams and seeding correctly.
      No wonder he is upset

      • Told y’all he doesn’t know shit about west coast hoops and was just pulling numbers out of his ass. For the last two years Jerry Palm from cbs sports has done better with his predictions

  20. Heard today, not confirmed, that Little Tinkle has a broken bone in his foot.

Heard from a friend who was at the P12 Tourney and stayed in the same hotel as the Beavs. It was overheard in a player conversation.

    Still, it’s not confirmed.

    • I”ve reported a couple of times on here now that one of the writers over at Building the Dam has been reporting that Tres “broke something in his foot” for two weeks. Apparently it was not just speculation.

      • Once I saw him on the leg scooter, I knew he was done. But maybe that was from seeing Seumalo on one of those for about 2 years.

  21. Had the wife buy the tickets for Fridays game for the son and I this morning. Told the boss the Beaver train is rolling into the Midwest and wouldn’t be to work on Friday. He said to make sure and crush it. We will sir, we will. GO BEAVS!!

    • Quite a few teams said fuck it, we’re done. LSU, Nebraska and Northwestern off the top of my head.

That said, what a shitty tournament field. Hope they enjoy playing in front of all 20 fans that show up. You could offer me free tix and I’d turn them down. Hell they could offer me free tix and all the beer I could drink and I’d still turn it down

    • It’s not an easy place to get to so we’ll see and especially on short notice.

I doubt VCU will have a heavy contingent.

With Oklahoma, Texas and Texas A&M there, other schools won’t have a lot of representation.

    • So our men play in Oklahoma City at 10:30, then our women play at 2 PM in Corvallis. Sounds like a good day of basketball. I wonder how much single game tickets are gonna cost; all 3 games is $28 for adults. I wonder if they’ll give students free tickets for the first game like they did last year, that could be helpful even if the opponent is lesser than most Pac-12 competition.

  22. Has anybody found a bracket that has OSU getting out of the first round? Besides Lindsay “tons of fun” Schnell. Like someone of note.

        • It’s because he can’t say, ” gary fucking awesome, you see him jump over those dumbasses, he’s a fucking magician sometimes.”

        • I attended an Alumni function at the TAP bar in the MGM. This sponsored event brought other Beaver fans in. I sat across from an older couple who both attended O.S.U. back in the fifties. They went on and on about how great a person Riley is. How nice he was to everybody. I was having a tough time biting my tongue trying not to say something negative in a university sponsored event. So after a story about the two of them traveling back in Nebraska to see coach Riley (who was not availabl) I asked them why do you think he left us for a second time? They went on about how the administration didn’t want to give raises to ast coaches and wanted him to make changes to the staff. Me and buddy afterwards kept shaking our heads. Literally was unbelievable to hear them say those things. Just as out of touch as the staff was. Blind leading the blind.

          • Don’t worry in 10 years those type of people will be dead. It has always amazed me how many old alumni are just along for the ride, they don’t give a shit if the teams win or lose.

    • Yes, a long boring week; but the anticipation of going to Corvallis to see both the WBB and Baseball team will have to suffice. Legendary Gill and good weather forecast for Goss, good stuff!

I’m always surprised (not really) that the “ideation” type folks don’t come up with a well publicized tie in when this opportunity presents itself.
I’m not an ideation specialist, but how hard would it be to say, “once you are in Goss, just show your ticket from the WBB game and receive a free ……cup of coffee or soda”…….or??

  23. Looks like the general population is picking VCU over OSU. Probably a lot of it is based on reputation of VCU. Most people think Smart is still the coach.

Looking at VCU’s numbers and having watched a couple of their games, it’s a true 50/50 game. VCU starts with 4 guards and 1 forward. Beavs will have a size advantage. Will that matter? No.

What does OSU need to do to win?
    1. Rebound on defense. VCU crashes the offensive boards hard. With Eubanks inexperience and Olaf’s lack of physicality, this could be where VCU wins the game. They may have size on VCU but VCU’s guy sniff out the ball. Eubanks needs to assert himself.
    2. Take advantage of the size difference. Eubanks, Big G and Olaf will have size advantages at the offensive end. But limit the dribbling, VCU will be looking to swipe at the ball when the ball is in the post.
    3. Come out to play early. Momentum is huge in tournament games.
    4. Stay out of foul trouble.

I don’t expect Bruce to keep up his production. But I do expect him to be efficient when he’s on the floor. Getting the ball to guys with open looks will be big. He’ll be getting a lot more respect in this game.

This is a close one, the Beavs certainly can’t let the game get away from them early on. If they keep it close with under 3 min to go, I think they can surge to a win. Having a lead early, they’ve have a rep of letting the game get away from them.

    • I think it was in the Portland Tribune I read today that STjr is going to start at PG alongside Payton and Bruce will be the reserve PG at some point early, causing STjr and GP2 to slide down one position. Didn’t make it sound like Duvivier will be part of the main rotation vs VCU

      • Would give us 3 ball handlers who are all offensive threats, to help force VCU to pick their poison if they decide to hound GP2

      • Man, if only we had Tres at full strength. A starting lineup with STjr, GP2, Tres, Olaf, and Drew would be extremely good, with Big G, Bruce, Malcolm, and spot time for Jarmal off the bench in that order. Have two good ball handlers in, then bring in a PG that can penetrate the lane and distribute and score.

But now we have to expect to watch a guy like Jarmal in a tournament game for lengths of time smh.

        • Perhaps, perhaps, if only, dare I hope, perchance, maybe, Olaf will slide, if necessary, when inbounding the ball, will hit open 3s, will rebound, will play with energy, and throw crisp passes. After the O article about him making it to the tournament when his brother didn’t – it’s the least he can do.

  24. Matt Moore signs 2-year deal with Dolphins…$3.5 million…good for him. He’s a true Beaver fan, too. Saw him at a recruiting dinner several years ago and he was nuts (in a good way). Very passionate about Beaver football.

    • Congrats to him. He’s likely to be good for the program in the long term.

I think a competitive team that’s a QB away from play-off competitiveness would have been smart to offer a bit more in annual salary, another year, and take him away from Miami. Is that Texas, where I think Osweiller ends up disappointing? I dunno. Moore could probably make several teams a nudge better with none of the risks (injury history, head case..locker room problem, etc.). Hell, Denver would be better served by him than chasing some risk like Kaepernik…

  25. Portland fires Eric Reveno. That makes four WCC programs in need of new head coaches. Mark Few had some choice words after only Gonzaga got into the NCAA tourney that (assuming he doesn’t mean St Mary’s) the rest of the conference needs to improve instead of dragging them down (Gonzaga and St Mary’s). He’s got a point but they’re not a power conference

    • People already rumoring former Beav candidate Damon Stoudamire. Was said to be a front runner for the Pacific job in the same conference, so Portland may have seen an opportunity they wanted to pounce on.

      • and what power conference logistically and academically would make sense for Gonzaga besides their current situation?

        • Logistically and academically, the Big East would be a perfect fit. Private school without football, on par academically with the likes of Xavier, Providence, Creighton, Georgetown, and Nova.

But that travel would be hellish, so THAT logistical part fizzles out. They’re a little too good for the WCC, but not complete enough for the Pac-12 or even the MWC.

    • That fucker Few should STFU, rumor was the Beavs wanted him when Jay John got axed, but he wasn’t interested. The was his “Power 5” conference and a higher level of competition, but he pussed out. Now he’s whining because Gonzaga has slipped slightly???

      • Umm, not sure if you noticed or not but Few has refuted every attempt by a power conference school to get him to leave Spokane. Even the ducks tried after they shit canned Ernie Kent and he wasn’t interested. It’s well known he’s an avid outdoors-man and loves the Spokane area. He’s not going anywhere

        • You understand that I was being somewhat sarcastic, right? I understand that Few is/was a hot commodity, but I have little patience for his whining. Plus there are outdoors everywhere. He liked being the proverbial big fish in a little pond, until he didn’t like it anymore. Boo fucking hoo!

  26. Good for him–if it were Trump, he would need to hire “many, many wonderful people” who would sue the American people “if he wasn’t treated fairly ” and allowed to win his bracket. Then he would pronounce that, “I would do many, many of the cheerleaders who of course want me when I’m elected Emperor”

      • Please don’t tell me you are a Trump supporter…if so, I’ve got a box of steaks and real estate classes to sell you.

Amazing a potential “leader” can yell fire in a theater, and then say I didn’t do it.

When you and the Donald come up with any policy, let me know. Otherwise, go build a wall.

          • “It would explain every single post he’s ever made.”

Referring to me Jack? Am I an “idiot”? Do I fall the category of all Muslims?, or am I a Mexican rapist?
Or today’s latest Trumpism…there will be “riots” if not nominated…according to the Repubs, you need 1237 to be the nominee. If the Donald is close (1150?), that’s good enough for him?
And my favorite, if he goes to a open convention, he may just take his ball and go home to a third party. Child, please…

        • Being upset about being treated “fairly” is a far more Democratic issue than what Republican. I will not vote for Trump but your analysis was completely off the mark.

      • If Trump is a birther, that makes you a gayer.

edit: actually, you’re now gayer than the gayers who tried this trope four years ago… not that stupid isn’t as stupid repeats.

    • That’s what the articles I’ve read imply. But every time something goes sideways in a program, and someone is fired, it seems like that individual is a “great recruiter”.

  27. Pretty much all of the sites I have found doing an analysis of the game predicts VCU to win. Probably a 10 -1 ratio. One of the guy who picked the Beavs did because everyone else was picking VCU.

One thing they don’t ever mention is the height advantage the Beavs have. St. Joes crushed VCU in the A10 title game with inside play. VCU doesn’t really play much against taller opponents in conference. So Eubanks could be in for a big game offensively and defensively. If he can shutdown their post game, VCU will have to rely on jump shots to win the game. Then offensively, he’ll have a 3-4 inch height advantage. Jump hooks all day. If he stays out of foul trouble, he could have a big game.

But the only thing going against this is Eubanks lack of experience. Which means it’s probably won’t happen.

      • Simple rule:

look at their record. Three of their losses were against the best and lost because they didn’t have the ball last… or for an extra .2 seconds.

They are consistent and play well together. They will roam the perimeter if they have to do so, but they will always probe. And while Hield is not the best player, he has been the best player in college hoops this season.

It’s a boom or bust situation. Get them confused and chasing your adjustments, and you have a shot.

edit: If it’s any consolation, Kruger has always been a master recruiter but never got the median, let alone the max, out of a team for a whole season.

  28. Just listened to the Tinkle interview…doesn’t sound like a great mental state for the team. Tinkle says in the past he put too much pressure on his teams in the tourney, and he doesn’t seem to know how to get the right level of confidence/intensity without the nerves. Now I’m more worried about VCU.

    • Well his Montana teams didn’t have room for error. It was a one bid league.

It’s hard to see why the Beavs would have any anxiousness. There’s no real pressure for them to make a run in the tourney. The only thing Tinkle needs to worry about is if the team is just happy to be there or is ready to grind out a game. He should use the fact that everyone is picking against them to motivate them into playing hard.

    • Also Montana would have had to play a “perfect” game in order to advance because the team they were playing was a much lower seed. Beavs don’t need a “perfect” game to win.

  29. FiveThirtyEight metrics have the Beavers as the team most likely to be upset (73%) and the worst Power 5 team in the tourney, just behind USC.

    • It would be more interesting if you posted their metrics.

In fact, it would be best if you would source all their funding for coming up with said metrics. They’re not as horrible as CATO. But they wave in the wonderful world of paid wind just like ’em and AEI and all the others.

      • It sounds like the kid was there ALL the time. Sorry, but that gets irritating. Management got it right and he is an idiot jock.

        • Maybe I just don’t understand?

He was asked to not have his kid there all the time… amid praises for said kid.

And he up and quit because of it?

          Really?

I don’t know the kid. But I know he has a whiny quitter for a father.

    • It sounds like that guy scouted them well. Sounds like VCU is going to play the 3 point line tight and box out GP2. Beavs are going to need to drive/score inside and get to the line.

Someone is going to have to rebound. Eubanks is a key this game.

    • I honestly don’t care about the outcome. I always want to see effort. But we’re hobbled and adjusting on a game-by-game basis.

It’s almost as if we’re just like everyone else.

    • Yeah, but given his praise for Olaf, I’m assuming he only watched the second UCLA game? You can “pick and pop” all you want, but it doesn’t mean shit if you can’t make the wide open shot.

  30. Quick, change your brackets! Cal’s leading scorer fractured his hand in practice yesterday. You have 1 hour to make the change.

  31. BASEBALL…fun(?) facts: Couple observations from a D1 article on SOS.

Beavs rank 147 in SOS, UCLA is #2, Furd is 6, SC is 24, schmucks are 26, and Cal comes in at 125.

So, is the level of competition faced by the Beavs so far: (a) cause for concern? or (b) too soon to tell?

    • It hurts. If we win out, it doesn’t matter as much. But it makes a difference between getting a national seed or not; getting to host a regional or not; getting off the bubble or not.

  32. Home on an annual hoops holiday!

And I end up watching C-span?

When I awoke, I thought Governor Snyder should resign. Now I think he should go to prison. And the GOP questioners should resign. They wonder why Trump has any power. I’ll say one thing I admire about Trump. At least he doesn’t hire some middle man or woman to do his dirty work. And I mean that he doesn’t hire some proxy to be POTUS for his enrichment. He, of course, has never done a day of work in his life. So the actual work that anyone does in his name is not done by him. But goodness! That personality is driving a spectacular cult.

20 minutes until I get to cheer against Duke.

  33. A Beav game thread will go up at 2am in the morning, btw. I realize this one is getting long, but I think it will suffice until then.

  34. Ivy League schools are a tough out. Ivy’s AQ is their regular season champion, since they don’t have a conference tournament. So they send a team that’s been good all year, not just a team that got hot. IMO, the minor conferences really should just send their regular season champion every year.

    • Princeton knocked off UCLA awhile back. I don’t remember if that was a 2/15 matchup or not. Back doored them to death the entire game

  35. OK, which of you degenerates is gonna be at Gill/Goss tomorrow??

For those who cannot attend, baseball will be streamed: http://pac-12.com/live/oregon-state-university-2, WBB is on ESPN2, ugh.

FUN FACT!! Did you know that beer is available in all parts of Goss (except RF bleachers) this year? Here is the story: http://www.osubeavers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=30800&ATCLID=210787189 No word on the availability of AB soap though.

I may, or may not, have a beer selection and price report up later in the weekend. As for a Mandy report…..eat yer heart out!

    • Customer gave me tix for Sunday, near 1st base patio. I’ll be testing the beer theory. Last year almost got into it with a midget at Banners who had had a few too many and thought he owned the rail despite being gone for 10 minutes. Beer and midgets, bad combo.

      • Hey Hightower, back off. That was my rail and you knew it. Just wanted to pick on the little guy and impress your buddies. Even 1 is a few too many for a guy my size. Will be seeing you Sunday. Look down

    • Imagine my surprise when there wasn’t a seat Nazi telling me I couldn’t take my beer back to my seat. Good to go until the 7th. But they did add a bunch of alcohol monitors. Hopefully the weather this weekend is more conducive to having a few.

  36. fuck. lost Baylor and Purdue already and had them both going to the sweet sixteen. And you degenerates that picked Oregon St to win it all??? You’re going to be fucking disappointed

    • That’s why you pick two brackets. One for osu, the lights what you really think.

Also every time I see baylor, I think I’m watching Oregon. I’m sure a lot of people do too.

  37. You can’t make this stuff up, Lindsay’s covering M Madness in Spokane and tweets, “We already talked about this: Flying Goat Pizza! Also, Madeline’s for all your breakfast needs. Mmm maple bars … “

      • Soft. IIRC correctly the Pac scheduled tough as a whole in OOC games but only went something like 3-14 against Top 25 opponents in OOC games. That’s not going to bode well. Oregon is the best team from the Pac-12 in the tournament but even they have flaws defensively (Cal game in Berkeley is a prime example)

  38. Ad much I don’t like other pac 12 teams, I want them to do well in the tourney because it helps the conference profile. If the beavs did the same next year, they’d probably get a 10 seed or worse because of poor performance by other conference teams. The only thing I don’t want is Oregon to win it all. Don’t care how far they go. No one remembers that stuff.

  39. Not going to be a popular sentiment but I have this feeling the Beavs lose tomorrow. VCU just has more tournament experience as a program. Last two years they’ve lost in the first round but both games went OT. I understand this is a new coaching staff for them. My gut feeling is the Beavs get stage fright and choke on the big stage. Beavs will hang tough but VCU pulls away late and wins by 7-12 pts.

      • sorry. was busy today and didn’t see the news until tonight. Yeah they COULD still win a game or two but they aren’t getting past Kansas. Unless Kansas themselves are removed before the sweet 16 by UConn and I don’t foresee that happening
