  1. Love that Craig Robinson is not playing any zone. Strictly man-to-man defense and their physicality in their defense is really bothering the Buffaloes.

    • No kidding. I waited all game long to see if the 1-3-1 would ruin my day.

      It did not.

I feel Coach Rob maybe feeling something himself. There’s just too much talk about the Beavs being THE spoiler. I wonder if the team picks up on it and lets it affect them.

  2. Collier and Moreland have prevented the Beavers from having a double digit lead. They’re struggling at the foul line yet again.

  3. pretty good half, reminds me of the first half of the washington game though in that they could be ahead by a wider margin if they’d made more free throws

  4. Beavs are going to have to make shots in the second half. I don’t anticipate the Buffs having double digit turnovers again.

  5. The m2m defense is looking really good. Craig hasn’t called for the 1-3-1 zone defense once I believe. This shows what the m2m can do. If this team can play defense like this the whole time in the Pac-12 Tournament, I think they can definitely win it. They’re capable. This has been incredibly impressive. They’re beginning to play to their potential at the right time.

    • Not sure about them playing to their potential. It’s more like Starks can’t miss. Which imo shows how much CR’s “game” needs guards who can shoot the outside shot.

      • starks could be the reason its a 22 point game, but he’s far from the only reason they’re ahead. he didn’t do a thing in the first half and they were ahead by three and it should’ve been more.

      • What system works when you don’t have guards who can make outside shots? EVERY team needs a guard who can consistently makes outside shots. Also, Starks’ outside shooting has nothing to do with how well they’ve played defensively and how well they’ve moved the ball.

  6. 17-13 season, 2 wins/momentum heading into the tourny, possibly CR learned they need to play man to man defense in tourny. All that considered, I’m actually looking forward to Wednesday. Maybe they even get an NIT bid.

    • Hopefully they are seriously pissed that they lost to Wazzu twice (at home especially) and that is motivation enough, but they have so much trouble matching up with Motum. If they can get to 18 wins, I would think they get NIT consideration. I’m not giving up though, there is no team in the P-12 that overwhelms them. Stranger things have happened.

      • Yeah. For some reason I think these guys will play best when there’s something big on the line. They almost seemed spaced out/bored (see Collier) during regular season games. I’m not saying this will happen, but I could see them becoming a story.

    • Most regular season wins in 22 years I believe. That’s a big deal, no matter the strength of the conference. Team is getting hot at the right time. If they play defense like they did for the majority of the game today they’ll beat the Cougars without a doubt. I think they can beat the Bears as well in the Quarterfinals. I really believe this team can win the Pac-12 Tournament, they just need to take things one game at a time, stay focused and continue to play solid defense. When they play solid defense they’re tough to beat. Looking forward to Wednesday.

      • Yeah, but you can’t discount the fact they lost to a lot of crappy non-conf teams the previous three years….Seattle(twice), Texas Southern, Utah Valley St…anyone? Granted, progress is coming too slow, but I’ll take minor progress over none at all.

      • You and McKalk are both right. Bad schedule, but they lost to those teams in the past. It is what it is. Could have been much better with a few easy and minor adjustments.

    • Didn’t we have a guaranteed winning season after the Utah victory? We technically only had two games left on the schedule as of Friday. Those two loses would have put us at 16-15. Unless you are counting postseason play. In which case, would it really be worth it to go to the CBI vs. staying home?

      • I was counting the possibility of a loss to Colorado, loss to WSU, loss in the first round of the CBI…you know “luck of the Beaver”, so it wasn’t technically guaranteed until they got to 17 wins.

  7. CR just said on the radio that it was “most likely” Kevin McShane’s last home game…..sounds like Craig is already talking to his CBI boys. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.

    • If they win one game in the tourney I think they’ll get an NIT invite. Two, definitely. NIT would be huge for this program. Sad but true.

    • From what Bob DeCarolis has said, we’re only playing in the CBI if it pencils out financially, which means home games.

    • I think he said that cause even if they make the NIT it isn’t too likely that they get a home game. They would just make it in and I think they would pass on the CBI. Either the NIT or the NCAA for these guys. Let’s hope it’s the latter. Would be an amazing story if they made an improbable run to many and got the automatic berth. Northwestern and OSU making the NCAA Tournament this season would be pretty awesome. I hope it happens!

  8. Holy crap, Ducks are ahead of Utah at the half 52-14….I am guessing they won’t give up 52 points to Utah in the second half.

  9. Tra Carson to transfer from Oregon.

The 6th Texas Duck with ties to Willie Lyles to leave the team in the last few months.

Rob Moseley calling it a ‘Texodus’.

Here’s the list if anyone is interested…

    Darron Thomas (gone)
    LaMichael James (gone)
    Lache Seastrunk (gone)
    Tra Carson (gone)
    Blake Cantu (gone)
    Dontae Williams (gone)
    Josh Huff
    Anthony Wallace

  10. My 2 c

Yeah, this season was disappointing, in a way, but at least showed progress. Hell, given flukes in a couple games, we would have a couple OT wins in addition.

We now beat the teams we should beat, OOC. Seems to me we were often not UP for games in conference. The players and the coaches need to find that — how to be more consistent. Maybe its just maturity. I recall Jared being out of control pretty often last year, and more in control now.

On defense, realize this is the first year of playing m2m, and sometimes we did it very well.

If we win a game or two in the tourney, I say this is a good season. I hope the players and the coaches are gradually learning how to win, consistently. And some guys gotta work on the free throws.

    • Pretty much agree. At least these guys were watchable and exciting at times. Last year was brutal. When these guys play D they’re pretty good, they just rarely play it.

      • I kind of think Moreland is the key to this edition of the Beavers future….he could be Tayshan Prince like with proper coaching and a committment to get stronger. You can’t teach length. I mean, at some point he should be able to get off a 12-15 foot jump shot against anybody.

  11. Cops arrested two kids yesterday, one was drinking battery acid, the other was eating fireworks. They charged one, and they let the other one off.
