Craig Robinson to Princeton?

92

He doesn’t seem happy at OSU, and OSU fans aren’t happy with him, so thisĀ seems likely. It will be interesting to see how fans, and more importantly, Bob D, react to this given CR is on a mini run. Watch him sign CR to a lifetime contract off this winning streak.

In a side note, the carrot (Kolton Miller) BeaverBlitz was dangling for memberships committed to UCLA.

  1. Did I read somewhere Robinsons daughter is going to play ball at Princeton? maybe its in the article you linked but i dont have time to check. I remember seeing that somewhere and thinking/hoping Princeton would offer CR a job. Sounds like a great opportunity!

    • Speaking of coaches kids, seems like many coaches take advantage of having their kids attend college where they are employed. Cav, Perry, Seumalo all, I believe, fit this scenario. In many institutions this means free or greatly reduced cost of education.
Anyone know how this works at OSU? Anyone think it may be a factor in how long Perry, in particular, stays around….I think he has two kids in school.

Is CR so well off that his daughter going to Princeton wouldn’t be a factor? Is she on scholarship?

  2. OT — Angry….or someone…. can ya give an overview of the football recruits? What is missing….and who might be a game changer. Seems like Del Rio might be good to go after Mannion is gone….Or maybe this McMaryion?

  3. Currently, Robinson’s win percentage is better than any Oregon State coach since Ralph Miller, he’s been good for fundraising, he’s been able to connect with Gary Payton and AC Green in ways that the previous coaches weren’t and he’s gotten us national attention. Is he a great X’s and O’s coach? Fuck no, he’s clueless. But he’s gotten us back to a level of respectability that we haven’t had in 20 years.

He was a good hire. Considering how many coaches turned us down before we got him, he’s been a great 4th or 5th choice.

If he leaves, he’s made the program better than it was and made it a more attractive program for an incoming coach. That makes it easier to pick a really good coach.

    Your criticism is stupid.

  4. Angry, re CR: “He doesnā€™t seem happy at OSU,” I’ve heard him comment several times how much he and his wife like being in Corvallis. I think he’s worked incredibly hard so it’s too bad, if he does go, it will be without the thanks he probably deserves.

    • I think he worked well at getting good recruits, but was lax at evaluating his own capabilities and hiring assistants who were good X and O guys and giving them some control in games. Working incredibly hard, if he did, doesnt cut it if you cant get the job done. If you hired a guy to dig a ditch and he worked incredibly hard but didnt know how to dig and never got it done, wouldnt you fire him and try to get someone who knew how?

      • This.

        So confounding.

Does he think his x-o/coaching is producing great results? Or is it just easier to pass the blame to the school, location, players, phases of the moon?

    • I know what he’s said, but his expressions and fading enthusiasm say otherwise.

He’s probably better suited to be an AD and surrounded by the liberalism at Princeton. His administrative skills are good, but his coaching is atrocious.

  5. You guys too girly sensitive to tolerate a difference in opinion? Do you not have the intellectual capacity to respond with rational logic rather than ranting grunts?

  6. I think the idea isn’t Coach Rob’s at all. I think people read about us talking about it here and take it to their various message boards where the idea becomes one of interest that a reporter finally asks about it.

That he is open about his thought process is interesting. He’s not a hard line “no comment” guy or someone who gives the stink eye while saying, “I have one job, and that’s as coach of _____.” He just runs through the general scenarios left out by an insufficient question borne of idle interest.

But now that he’s said the words, he’s turning heads of people like his agent and BDC and regents/alumni at Princeton… and schmoes like us.

He’s hedged his bets… er… investments before. He knows how this game works.

  7. Way OT…

A friend died this morning. He was in a car accident with his father and sister and three others last Saturday. He was the Oregon and Regional Silver Gloves champion. He had a ton of talent due to a great work ethic and great support. This time last week his family and gym were raising money so he could go to nationals next week. On Saturday that turned into fundraising for medical bills. Today that turns into fundraising for funeral costs. And his father is still in ICU at OHSU.

I’ve lost a lot of friends to age, illness or a combination of the two. But this one is just heartbreaking. This one made me cry for a while, and I don’t know if I’m done.

    RIP Carlos Perez.

  8. Has anyone heard anything about Larry Allen III from De La Salle? There was some buzz about him early in the football season, but his recruitment is just one big stone wall.

    • Woo hoo!

I see an ISP/telecommunications bubble on the horizon. Corporatocracy/fascism will render a burst bubble and lemon socialism. That’s right. Supply-side econ is just you squeezing someone’s lemon. What do you think of your trickle down now?

    • More importantly, Berto is somewhere around 54% in conference play. That has to do with Cooke and LMW (69?% in conference play) getting starting minutes. Those two defer to Berto and the bigs so well. And they’re rewarded with shots so open that noon ball warriors could make them easily. It’s a strange transformation that has slowly taken place since Coach Rob has decided to put shooters on the floor.

      Go figure.

    • That answer about Schnell breaking the Wagner story is bunk. That article came out on the eve of Wagner’s firing and more than a month after other news outlets reported on the story. It was after a two month investigation by Bobby D.

  9. Boise signs jc qb, a winner in the mold of earlier Bronco qbs. Pipeline is tight between Harsin and Butte coach. Beavers do not need another qb. But Butte is always in top ten nationally and produces future pro players at various positions on a regular basis. How about getting to know Jeff Jordan?
