  1. ASU has been tough at home this year. 11-1, with the loss to UW of all teams. Part of that looks like they’ve played most of the lower caliber Pac teams at home so far this season, and caught Colorado after injuries destroyed that team. Their guards have been playing well as of late. If Berto and Cooke can play a little D, I like our chances against their front line.

    • Its nice to see them drawing fouls on the ASU bigs while not fouling much in return. Should open thins up a little for the 2nd half

    • I must be bad luck, because every time I turn to it they flail a shot, or run into each other loose ball out of bounds, foul on defense, or fail to get a good look before the clock runs out?

      • Its not you. Its often like that. They go through stretches of nice looking basketball, then suddenly turn into the Washington generals.

    • Back to the norm to finish the half. Gotta love Coach Rob calling timeout to get Moreland a contested fallaway 3 from the corner. Classic

  2. Is Roberto hurt or in the dog house??

These rotations are questionable bad a legit chance build a nicer ad now Asu is chipping away

  3. CR is back to youth basketball….play everybody….not understanding the play time for Roberto…if this game goes south…CR, Barton, Reid, Duvivier (who will be good)…everytime I begin to get excited I watch this

  4. Beavs are so frustrating, they show these flashes of brillance and then it’s back to choppy, confused shit. My pet peeve tonight is that it looks like the Beavers bigs have no idea that Bachynski can block shots. Let’s drive into the key, make no fake and throw the ball up against a mobile 7 footer. Do they study film or is that just football?

    • To be fair, the reffing has done a complete 180 since the first half. They were letting them play but now every drive to the hoop results in free throws. It has completely killed the beavs defensive intensity.

      • That’s true .. Refs were letting them play. Pretty much as soon as the student section started cheering the refs have started to call any thing that looks like a foul. ….. For ASU

  5. The fouls have made this game unwatchable.

Beavs forcing shots and losing control…typical from what I have always seen. For a while there they looked like a real team. That was (briefly) exciting. Bummer they can’t maintain anything.

  6. Beavs are in this. Their 7 footer has 4 fouls and has to dial back his defense since his backup already fouled out. Time to score inside.

  7. This is a good game. Beavs melted down early in the 2nd, but otherwise have played well. They’re playing with heart and effort. Execution is decent.

These refs seem to want ASU to win, though…

  8. Is this Marshall guy usually good, or is this another nobody teeing off vs the Beavs?

Also, every time I see Brandt touch the ball with anything on the line he coughs it up/chokes.

  9. Too many turnovers. Too many ASU free throws (emphasis on free). Too much Craig Robinson. Tough loss for the beavs, but on the bright side, the mirage that was a possible tourney berth is pretty much toast. Frustrating to think of how good this unit could be with a serviceable coach. They got the talent and the desire but the infrastructure just isn’t there. It’s just a bunch of talented guys that really like each other wingin’ it out there

  10. Difference in overtime was ASU hit 3 threes after missing them repeatedly in regulation. Beavs looked competitive tonight bit hard to overcome the 50/50 plays that tend to go to the home team

  11. Beavers losing this game has nothing to do with officiating. Collier and Moreland didn’t finish in the paint all night long. Collier missed too many free throws and Moreland was brutal defensively in overtime

    • Moreland is a good post defender but he’s a god awful on-ball defender. This is another Coach Rob problem. He kept/keeps playing Moreland at the 3 position which almost completely takes away his shot blocking and rebounding skills. Also he dribbles way too much and insists on being a wing although he has no skills that a wing should possess, but that’s probably more of a Moreland problem than a Coach Rob problem

        • Moreland doesn’t have much consistency on offense period and he’s out of control on a lot of his drives, so I think CR doesn’t want him clogging up the inside with Brandt or Collier already there, but I wish Moreland could find a way to improve his offense because he has open looks from mid-range any time he wants it.

It sounds like Moreland is going to leave early, but his offense is crude, maybe he develops into a Dennis Rodman type, but he’s not that type of defender yet.

    • Officiating had a lot to do with it. The first three minutes of the second half was some bullshit god-fucking refereeing. It was so bad I turned the game off and stopped watching. I knew who would win at that point. I’m glad the Beavs fought back, but they were fighting too many elements. The outcome was set as soon as their 5’10” PG picked up the ball outside the arc and scored on a low left-handed lay-up for the second time.

But then I often get upset when I watch a Sendek or Ken Bone team play. They do little things in their game plans that should be called fouls all the time. Bone would have his guys pick and hip check cutters. The NCAA has mandated that refs actually start calling that particular crap correctly this season. So Bone has lost a majority of his coaching skills this year. Sendek’s teams get away with crap that would get you thrown out of city league. They target certain players and grab and push and punch them off ball. It’s subtle, but not so subtle that someone in city league wouldn’t just clock you if you tried it. Watching them earlier this year, the defender on their opponent’s primary scorer would give up fouls by slapping and poking the guy in the face as well. So at least they weren’t doing that last night. Tat kind of cheap shit would have cost me a TV… and whatever I threw at it.

  12. They could this team has a lot of talent. They just need to be put in better position to win.

    Cooke
    Nelson
    Collier
    Moreland
    Brandt

At Least Two of those guys should be on the court at all times.

  13. Too many mistakes at the end of the first half and the beginning of the second half. Just could not overcome that. Good to see team didn’t give up but this is a big loss.

Big stat of the game – ASU free throw attempts – 40, OSU – 18.

    • Agreed. I was too irritated to post last night. BOTH Oregon schools got fucking jobbed last night. ducks shot 20 FT’s to Arizona’s 35. Beavs 18 to ASU’s 40. Seemed like every fucking time Jahii Carson took the ball to the basket he wound up at the FT line. It was ridiculous. Tough to win when it’s 5 on 8. If the game would have been called in the 2nd half the way it was in the 1st the Beavs win.

  14. anyone not wanting to watch 40 missed free throws and 50 missed layups and 60 missed 2 ft. baby hooks can watch the Blazers OT vs. Pacers right now. Great game, over the top skill. Suck it March Madness.

    • Yeah what great game, good atmosphere. Tough loss, Blazers just couldnt get one rebound or they win in regulation. Could be a preview of Finals, and if it is what a treat that would be.

      • Blazers will not be in the finals. Bank on that. Lack of playoff experience. Pacers? God I hope so. Anyone but Lebronda, Wade and the floppers, I mean heat.

  15. Day three of being snowbound roaming aimlessly around the house with nothing to do all day…or what Jack would call “a typical day.”

Basketball not interesting….another day another loss, another excuse..ho hum.

Football recruits..our usual assortment of mismatched odds and ends that we rustled away from UNLV and New Mexico. Good thing we don’t have EWU on the schedule again.

Wonder what I can find on demand??? JB

    • Why don’t you go out and play in the snow like I did with my kids… after I shoveled the driveway and walk. And the igloo we made yesterday was iced over this morning. It was pretty cool.

And to warm up we sat near the fire, drank cocoa and read books then watched movies later.

One man’s roaming aimlessly is a real man’s opportunity.
