  1. Watching Wazzu/UCSB in the Great Alaska Shootout. 34-12 UCSB at half. Wazzu is HORRIBLE. Beavs could easily beat them right now. Coincidentally the beavs play UCSB on Dec 30 @ Gill.

      • USC is bad too. ASU has two good players and a terrible coach. CU, SU, Utah and UCLA are all good but Jekyll and Hyde. UW is a step below them all but experienced together. And Cal is a step below that but also Jekyll and Hyde. Zony is just plain good. And Nikegon is much better than expected… probably at UW’s level but with more size and athleticism.

  2. Hopefully this is Riley’s last game at OSU. If he still wants to coach he can enter the mix for the Portland State job and save us a lot of money. Then within 2 months from now I would love it if we announce the hiring of Utah St.’s Matt Wells. Wells utilizing McMarion at QB next year could get 8 wins and have us in the Holiday Bowl. Riley would max out at 5 again in another losing season.

    • 5 wins next season is pretty generous for a team breaking in a new quarterback with very little experience. I could see another 3-9 season like we had a few years ago when Mannion was a freshman

        • My thinking around Riley is “what factors could lead to his retiring sooner than later” and then a lot of patience. A 5-7 season with 3 games close in the 4th quarter is not going to move BDC’s barometer one iota.

        • … that adds very little to the conversation as it was begun 1000 posts ago… with the same idea… months/years ago.

Only the prospective names change with the “hot list” of coaches out there… not even enough thought and care to go out and research beyond those lists to see if there is someone else out there who might be decent.

          • I’d prefer to see someone with actual HC experience, rather than a coordinator.

Jack, who would you suggest, if not from ‘those lists’ out there. Not a jab, honest question…I don’t watch a lot outside the Pac or what is televised that doesn’t conflict with a Pac game.

          • I’ve said years ago I would take Leipold. I think he would need a break-in period on the BCS level as an OC/QB coach. But his teams are really really good.

      • “Nice Dream”? Great Cheech and Chong movie! And yes……anyone who really thinks Mike Riley will be head coach at PSU scored some very potent Acapulco Gold!

    • Jump the gun much? What do we know about Mcmaryion other than a few o live tweets? Count on Del Rio as the QB unless something dramatic happens in the Spring.

  3. Gonna be closer than above. Helfrich wants Riley in place forever. The duck cheerleaders and coaches sons will play. Ok, they cant, but you get the idea. They will impose some self discipline — Freeman only runs backwards and Mariota runs plays with his eyes closed.

    • You beat me to it rsteve.

The ‘ucks could be flat for a while (but not as long as ASU was) but my guess is Helfrich calls off the dogs by mid 3rd quarter.

This post is being made from my Firefox browser. I’ve done some testing and it seems to fit my needs so I’ve moved over all 5,324 of my bookmarks. Naturally nothing is perfect but it will do very nicely.

Thanks to all who offered suggestions. I’m currently running AdBlock, BetterPrivacy, Ghostery and Lightbeam. Tried to install Jitsi but got a message telling me that Jitsi is 32 bit, I’m running 64 bit and recommending that I install the 64bit version of the program. I figured it would be O.K. if I did so but decided to error on the side of safety.

        • @ Angry

Thanks for the link to the 64bit build but I have a few questions about what I should download.

How can I tell which of the files I should be downloading? The first 2 have 64 in the file name and the others don’t so I’m assuming that the second two are 32bit.

The first two have the same date-time stamp but one is identified as “latest” while the other isn’t. So is “latest” the one I should be downloading?

          [EXE] jitsi-2.4.4997-x64.exe 2014-01-07 13:08 43M
          [EXE] jitsi-2.4-latest-x64.exe 2014-01-07 13:08 43M
          [EXE] jitsi-2.4.4997-x86.exe 2014-01-07 13:07 41M
          [EXE] jitsi-2.4-latest-x86.exe 2014-01-07 13:07 41M

          TIA

          • Yes, either of the first two. My guess is the one “latest” is the latest stable build (I’d DL that one) and the one above it is probably a beta. x86 is always 32-bit for future reference (confusing, but it references the old 8086 CPU).

  4. If it wasn’t clear I’m much more of a basketball guy. Anyway, in a fantasy world, how would you renovate/remodel Gill? I personally think it’s really ugly and as a recruit I’d be kind of turned off by the stadium (but turned back by the coach, the practice facility, the academic support, and the campus).

Looking at some other stadiums like Gill, it doesn’t have to be all newfangled. But the gyms at FAMU (Lawson Center), Duke (Cameron Indoor), and Butler (Hinkle Fieldhouse) have me interested in what you can update with the current model. Replacing the upper bench seats with chairs, put chairs behind each basket, keep the student section bleacher style, putting a scoreboard hanging over the middle of the court, and making all the signs and bathroom signs stuff on the outside concourse look like they belong in this century would be a good mix.

Structurally, that probably isn’t even possible, but a man can dream can’t he?

    • I like Gill’s old school feel. I’d move the students to the opposite sideline so theyre in the camera shot for tv games. Perhaps add some more chairback seats, but otherwise that atmosphere takes care of itself omce the team starts winning and the crowd starts filling the seats. Its a pretty loud arena when full.

      • Pretty loud? That place can be half capacity and roar. When it’s full and rocking you can hear it from a mile away… literally.

Anyone remember the old sound meter they hung up there back in the early 90’s?

        • Last time I remember Gill rocking that loud was the year when jay John led them to the NIT. We beat Andre igoudala and Arizona at gill and it was LOUD in there that night

          • We didn’t beat Zony that year… in three tries. I think we came within 10 points at home, but we got pasted by them at Tucson and even worse in the Pac Tourney. Besides, Iguodala went to the NBA the previous year. We did beat them at home in 2004.

          • That must’ve been the year then. We had David Lucas on that team. IIRC the final was 90-81 or 90-84. Too many years have passed and way too many napkins. But Gill was loud that night

    • Concourse improvements would be nice…. like opening the concessions everywhere maybe?

A central scoreboard would also be good. You mentioned Cameron Indoor. It’s not better than Gill. But it does hang a four-way scoreboard over center court as of a couple years ago. And they added air-conditioning about 10 years ago. But that’s about it.

      Oh… they win a lot.

I personally hate chair backs. I can find more leg room in coach on a really cheap airline. I would like to be able to pay enough for season tickets where I want to sit and have them remove the stupid chair backs so I can actually sit in the damn seats. Cameron has chair backs above the pull-outs. While it’s visually appealing when empty, they suck for anyone over 6’0″. And it’s not like anyone is sitting in them once the games begin. Cameron also has the same issue Pauly had before Pauly was redone. They run the upper levels well past the end lines and way out into the corners. So there are a bunch of seats in those areas with terrible sight lines.

I would paint the remaining bench seats orange instead of that drab grey they are now. And I would paint the girders and other structural elements black for contrast. There’s no reason for us to have khaki walls and ceilings.

I would replace the lighting and sound. And in doing the latter I would replace the hanging stacks over center court with a four way scoreboard. Then I would make the end scoreboard areas full video screens (with, of course, half of their space being taken up by permanent ads).

I would look into the possibility of hanging the baskets instead of the stanchions we have now, but that’s not a huge concern.

And I would move the media section up into the north upper reaches with a dedicated camera platform in front of it… and all the bells and whistles for new tech to be accessed in that area. I realize we would need wheelchair access to the media area, but something can be done to remedy that quite easily (not cheaply, but easily).

No end seating… and no more damn chair backs.

  5. CW the national game in prime time on ABC. Humiliation for the whole country to see. Hip,hip….
Mary Ota wraps up Heisman to boot? Not a neat deal.

    • Acutally, I think its all good. Contrasting the different directions taken by two adjacent programs, one headed for the first ever playoff, the other headed … nowhere….circling the toilet bowl and not even going to a toilet bowl…

When the world sees it, maybe its brought home to the BDCer and we get pressure for a change… One can hope…

  6. Sad thing is last year could have been a victory against the Quacks, but the defense couldn’t get that one last stop (notice the one time they did it this year, it was a win against ASU). Given that a senior led defense was expected to be the strength this year and ended up a disappointment, I really think BDC needs to pressure Riley to get rid of Banker.

Maybe Riley will get pissed at that and just quit, rather than fire his friend. Otherwise, BDC is not going to fire Riley, that’s just fantasy. Riley will retire, but it’s a matter of when.

  7. Rumor has it Harbaugh will be fired by San Francisco after the NFL season is over. Should we take a flyer, or would you want no part of him?

    • A flyer? That would be the biggest grand slam hire in the history of Oregon State. Paying him close to 3 million a year would be worth it. He can be the North Division King again. Duck killer!

    • Well Riley and him are very good friends. Wouldn’t be a bad idea. He’ll be rough with the media and probably the boosters but he’ll get it done on the field.

Unlikely though since he’s paid 5 mil a year and other NFL teams will pay him that much or more.

        • This doesn’t even rise to a “meh,” let alone speculation. If he’s not grabbed by another NFL team… if he’s not grabbed by another traditional NCAA power football school… if he doesn’t just want to decompress for a year… hell, if he even gets fired… AND… if Mike Riley gets fired or retires or dies in a plane accident or does something un-Riley and cans one of his coordinators then demands BDC pays his new coordinator three times his own salary…

… then should we take a flier on him?

          Sure. Why not?

      • Actually, they probably are. Stupid, but they are.

That said, he’ll probably have a dozen NFL and powerhouse NCAA head coaching offers in no time flat. OSU has almost no chance, even if they ponied up a competitive offer (which they wouldn’t.)

And demotion to coordinator would be laughable for Harbaugh. Zero chance.

    • The guy who turned down the Packers job so they had to go hire their second choice, Lombardi, had a son who set up shop in Corvallis and a granddaughter who played hoops at OSU.

      That’s about all I got.

Would Tommy Prothro be up to returning maybe?

  8. If we are playing fantasy land here…..we might as well go from the nicest guy in college football to the biggest asshole and get Bo Belini after he’s fired…..remember he has never won less than 9 games!!!!

    • Remember also that he’s never had to coach nine conference games in a season… well… not without the obligatory loss being that ninth game… and loss is a nice word for what happened to his team once they moved from the Big 12 to the B1G.

  9. Beavers will play their best game of the year tomorrow. Beavers lead by 3 with 2 minutes left, have a 4th and 1 at the Oregon 10 with a chance to end it with a first down, Riley elects for the conservative FG. Oregon gets the ball down 6, goes down and scores TD and kicks XP for win with 3 seconds left. Everyone on AngryBeavs then jumps off the nearest bridge and Riley is praised for his brilliance in the loss.

  10. I just hope Mike Riley can walk the sidelines with a little less hunch in his back and maybe chew his gum a little slower….appearance is everything on national TV. Also, I’m sure the national audience will think it is 12 degrees in Corvallis based on the multi-layers MR will be wearing.

    • The Beavs play a hell of an inspired game. Mike Riley is more animated than ever — even Angry and Jack are heard to mumble … “what the fuck?”. But late in the game our Riley collapses and exits in an ambulance. Beavs lose and later, our Riley retires, citing a mystery illness he has been fighting for years. Sympathy and kudos from the Pollyannas is ass deep to a man in a jeep. Only at AngryBeavs is the question asked… WHAT ILLNESS?

    • ya know what’s sad? Riley gets taken to the woodshed by guys who’ve been coaching more than 20 years fewer than he has. He’ll be curled up in the fetal position by mid 3rd quarter

  11. Riley isn’t getting the job done. He doesn’t deserve to remain as head coach. Well past time for a new direction. Season ticket sales will be well down next year. Do the buyout or figure out a retirement plan now.

    • Please… tell us about how you feel about BDC and tartan end zones… and uni combos… and how marketing is the way of the world and how OSU fails at it…

… because that’s never spoken of here… in repeated spam posts…. ad nauseum… and over and over… repetitively.

Utah State’s Matt Wells should be on the shortlist for national coach of the year. Nine wins with four different quarterbacks. Impressive.

What Matt Wells has done at USU is nothing short of incredible. If I’m a P5 school in West needing a coach, he’s my guy.

Proud of this program pic.twitter.com/OlYLZQtrzs— Matt Wells (@CoachWellsUSUFB) November 26, 2014

      • Utah St. plays Boise St. at 7:15 on ESPN2. So after watching Riley get taken to the woodshed for the 7th straight Civil War turn it over there and check out a great candidate for a new and far superior direction for our program. If the Civil War isn’t tight probably 2/3 or more of the fanbase would support such needed change. Riley has already been given too much time for too poor of results that are getting progressively worse.

        • 2/3 support, maybe. But I’m guessing pretty close to 100% once the decision is made. The old codgers(remaining donors) that love Riley would love and support the new coach all the same.

        • For 1.5 to close to 2 million compared to 600K? You bet. I actually think Oregon State would be his top pick of various possible openings if we talked with him. OSU has some similarities with USU. He would thrive here if given the chance for the next 7 or so years. Staying with Riley any longer will only further divide and diminish our fanbase. Wells like Numbers stated above would unite and excite the base. It would be a healthy new beginning with a rising premier coach who has proven he can recruit and win in bunches.

          • Hate to crush your Matt Wells dreams, but hiring him would come with a hefty buyout of his previous contract, in the $3.5M range. That’s in addition to whatever offer the Beavs would be able to muster up to lure him. Couple that with a Riley buyout and…….well……sorry…..Al Reser isn’t coming through the doors of the Valley Football Center with a big check to make that happen.

Even if Riley retired today after the game, the Beavs would still be too stubborn to pay a competitive salary and buyout Well’s old deal. Maybe in a few years, after the buyout shrinks, I could see it happening, except Wells will be coaching for some other Power 5 school by that time.

          • Two options: Wells buyout expires on 7/1/15.

            1) Have Bray as interim and hire Wells on 7/1 ready to go next year with no buyout. First year no one is expecting 9 wins anyway.

            2) Riley most likely gets next year anyway but very good chance it is another losing season. That would be 5 of the last 6 years that were not winning seasons during the regular season which is uber horrible. Then you could hire Wells immediately after next year’s 8th straight Civil War defeat with no buyout.

90% of the fanbase should want Riley gone at that point. May be best to announce Riley won’t be back a few weeks before the season ends like Florida did so we can be quick to move on Wells before another P5 program snags him. Best opportunity for a great coach the Beavs are likely to see in the next decade.

  13. OK guys, here it is, big game tonight.

I sort of hope that UO crapped their pants when AZ won, and the Ducks might overlook tonight’s game.

That said, I really think our players have a great opportunity here, and if they stay disciplined on defense and aggressive on offense, we’ll hang around until late in the game, then who knows what might happen?

The x factor could be weather, as it seems there is a realistic shot of some snow/rain mix, which could be the great equalizer?

I’ve seen some crazy games in my day, and I’ve learned to not ever count out the Beavs, especially at Reser as a decided underdog.

ASU was supposed to plow us too, but we took their names!

    Go Beavs

    • Come on man. Its not happening
Even if Mariota and Freeman both sprain their ankles stepping off the team buss and are forced to sit this one out, there’s no way the Pac 12 will let little OSU ruin their only shot at having a team in the playoffs. The league has too much to gain by having Oregon win out. Not that Oregon would need any help, but I think they have a little insurance too.

    • LOL …

  15. Beat the Yucks and become bowl eligible – Riley gets another year

Play in the Jif Peanut Butter Bowl against some lower tier 6-6 team and end the season with another fantastic 7-6 record! – Riley success stories make us cry.

    Oh, wait – we’re already crying…

  16. “Greg, winning the national championship is great and all. But keeping Auburn from winning the national championship is even better and will be necessary to solidify your legacy with the Tide faithful.”
–Greg McElroy… apparently telling a story about how Bama boosters are just jealous of Auburn and have a little brother complex.

  17. Report from Corvallis: The smoked prime rib and colcannon went down nicely with a 14% Belgian Golden Strong last night outside in the driving rain. Drunken debauchery was kept to a minimum on account of needing to keep our wits about us today for the 8 hours leading up to kickoff.
Actual talk and discussion about the game around the fairgrounds is almost non existent because well, you know why. This is just an excuse to gather with great friends under a canopy in a gravel parking lot and drink home brew and eat various smoked meats. Sad really… that apathy is setting in
amongst the fan base. Can be hard to get that excitement back so it just snowballs.
Regardless, ribs will be eaten, beer will be drunk, lies will be told, and the Beavs will lose their 7th straight Silver War. Fun!

  18. I just wanna make sure I have the facts straight. Today at home we are the biggest underdogs in the 120 year history of the civil war, The fan base is completely ho-hum about todays civil war. And riley still has apologists and isn’t fired?

This is an unacceptable Athletic Department failure and everyone needs to go. We’ve lost our base. We’ve lost our tradition. We are losing everything

    • It’s not just the Beaver fanbase that is completely ho-hum. The Duck fans I know no longer look forward to the Civil War like they did in years past. In a sense, Bob DeCareless’s incompetence has robbed them of a great tradition, too. One of the oldest college football rivalries has been reduced to little more than a scrimmage, and it’s a crying shame.

      • The media needs to stop referring to it as a RIVALRY game. Rivalry implies we might win it. It is now officially a SACRIFICE. The traditional OSU-UO sacrifice game.

  19. My interest in the CW has not been this low in 15+ years. How bad will Murphy/Zimmerman look against UO? Who will Freeman embarrass the most? Are OSU’s TEs still AWOL? After the 3rd quarter, will Helfrich rest his starters for the Pac-12 championship game?

Good fortune to Haskins and Anderson; may ye both find plentiful daylight and fumble not the football.

  20. Think about this. If Riley were to pull a rabbit out of the hat, and win,….. the season is still a failure, OSU a mediocre 6-6, going to some toillet bowl, but WAY worse, UO NOT going to the playoff. I suspect most fans of anything in the state would hate OSU.

So everyone should hope OSU loses….

    • Anyone who appreciates well played football probably doesn’t want a Beaver win today; it almost certainly would result in the usual accolades for Riley, a meaningless bowl game, and another year added to his contract, thereby extending the mediocrity.

I’d was thinking it’d be nice if Banker got the Portland State job, but I don’t think PSU will be returning to the OSU coaching shrub anytime soon.

  21. Not even excited :(

I was practically up all night in 2010 for the Civil War. This year I have it in a little browser window while I do other more interesting things in another bigger window.

  22. Riley era should have ended 3 or 4 years ago. So sick of this shit. DeCarolis you are a piece o’ shit. Fire Mike Riley!!!!!!

MOVE THE F’ ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!! END THIS CRAP!!!!!

  23. Too bad our play caller appears to not have watched the full back off the right guard success from this season. Dang. That would’ve worked twice

  24. The biggest defensive miscue is Nelson mistiming his jump on the INT. They have to make those plays if they hope to keep up, let alone win.

  25. BDC please resign! Riley please retire!

Fans don’t deserve any more of this horseshit product! Sad. So sad how assinine decisions and contracts have tanked this program.

  26. Nice that a SENIOR linebacker is still confused on wheel route coverage after 5 years in the system…..nice running the exact same play twice on 4th and 1…..Nice that Riley keeps chomping his gum and coaching this team into the depths of college football hell!!!!

  27. It’s official. Riley is worse than Embree at Colorado bad. The administration at OSU has to go!!!

This is totally unacceptable for us to be forcefed this shit week after week and year after year.

Program is headed to the cellar and is going downhill fast. CLEAN HOUSE!!!!!!!!

QUIT ACCEPTING THIS SHIT!!!! START OVER!!!!!!!!!!

  28. Fuck you Murphy, scree the pooch on coverage, OK, you suck, but to get up and just watch, not even try to do something after your fuck up? Welcome to the bench asshole.

    • Other than the gum comment that’s exactly what that idiot will say. What a cluster… Ray better get a clue and clean up this shit sandwich.

  29. yep, Im done, I cant watch any more.

My brother and I were discussing the team over TG dinner. He goes to the practices and his comment was “the one thing that stands out to me, is that you just get the feeling that the players no longer even care about winning”

They gave up, why cant I?

  30. For anyone who wants another year of Riley…..screw off.

He Sucks Giant Kangaroo Balls. Are there really any apologists left after this besides Eggers and BDC? Hard to believe. This needs to end now…no exceptions!

This Must Be Riley’s last game at Oregon State. Hire a fucking new staff already! What the hell are we waiting for??? Disgusted!!!

  31. I’m sick of hearing how accurate Mannion is with the deep ball. If that is in fact true, he’s a total jerk for hanging his recievers out to be demolished.

  32. You guys things would be a lot worse if Riley wasn’t the coach. We are so lucky to him. It could be so worse than it is now. Remember the 80’s?
    Sarc

  33. It looks to me like Mannion is already out of the game mentally; he’s already lost.

Look at Mariotta hit WRs in stride. Interesting.

    • Mariota has hit maybe four guys “in stride.” The problem is that three of them have been so wide open that they could adjust well before the ball got there. He’s not hitting many in the catch radius properly. And he can’t make that sideline toss.

But the announcer loves his “rocket/NFL” arm and that it’s “highly accurate.” Chuckles!

  34. So the TV is showing Terry Baker days? WTF

I’m going to call it a night. Well actually I’m going to do something productive. Like read an econ text book. :-) Just kidding.

    Nite all

    • Beavers get no respect…they couldn’t even get Baker’s highlights correct. The TD pass could not have been in the Liberty Bowl because the only score in that game was the 99 yard TD run which they cut short!!!!

  35. Fun to watch our defense standing on their heels trying to read and interpret their complex assignmeets , as their recievers are running and catching In stride in front of them.

  36. Why do people here dislike the UO offense? What’s wrong with spreading people out and taking advantage of space and using speed? What’s wrong with the pace?

It confuses teams like OSU, then demoralizes them, taking them out of the game.

This OSU team is mentally on its way to the showers already, hoping for some sympathy sex later.

At least Mariotta ought to be sitting midway through the third.

      • Maybe the way UO implements it is cheap. Jack has pointed out they break rules in implementing it. But if implemented legally, I think its fine.

          • Watch the outside receivers… usually to the short side. They rarely come inside the numbers between each play, as they are mandated by a rule.

There are a couple other plays that are common rule-breaking, like holding or blocking in the back when running off the edges. It just makes for an ugly game… and not football.

One might say, “You can’t blow a whistle every time those plays happen. That would slow the game to a grind.”

One would be correct, and I believe that’s a part of Chip Kelly’s genius. If the refs actually manage to keep up with the play (which they do not), then they would feel guilty about calling every infraction Kelly’s offenses commit because they would be on every other play. So they call one every once in a while… usually on an already unproductive play.

  37. How and why is Riley still employed at OSU? 125 out of 127 FBS coaches would do better. Pathetic and unacceptable. Get rid of this bum. Go a new god dang direction. Enough of this Riley/BDC/Goe bullshit. IT NEEDS TO END NOW!!!!!!

  38. Wow … Riley, Banker and Garrett have really figured UO out….man, we are crushing em…..

Wait….sorry … that delay of game snapped me out of it…. LOL, now THAT’S our beavs in action!

Shit, I thought we had the 30 … what a delusion!!

No, its 30-zip and no hope, folks….

    • Have you seen the Utah State Aggies do that this year??? I do think Wells would be a great hire. Bad clock management is just bad football and is demoralizing to your team

    • All coaching, They never hustle back, just sort of lolly gag… There’s no discipline AT ALL. Allowing the seniors to pick unis and making it look like the ucks are the home team is another “it’s neat we let the seniors decide the combo…” BS. I’m actually surprised that there haven’t been more off the field issues with this piss poor staff. More Popsicles and slip and slides instead of coaching how to defend a fucking wheel route. Sad.

  39. So about 10k at home games next year? Heck even 9 out of 10 over on pure-orange are calling for Riley to be fired.

Time for a new staff or few fans left won’t care at all.

        • All season he has pointed out time management issues and the need to run, particularly between the Guards. Maybe I’m just used to his objective comments and am too pissed off at this spectacle to listen closely to tonights specific comments.
I don’t envy his position either, he is smart and has such good insight in both FB and baseball.

          • He’s as objective as any we have IMO. But he’s got a mortgage too so let’s give him a break. Eggers, Goe and Preece can go eff themselves. Gina and Connor are an improvement.

    • I don’t wish anything but good luck to him but he’s not an NFl level QB. Canfield was better and he hardly made it off the practice squad. I always hear our program gets players ready for the NFL. The ucks have twice as many players in the league as we do. That’s another Opie myth…

      • I don’t really see any NFL QB talent in the NCAA this year. Maybe Goff? Bo Wallace? Winston would be one if he had half a brain.

Not much out there except for all the hype… just really good and great college system players.

  40. Riley is way into dementia. An 8 yr old kid would manage time better than that. Just inexcusable.

But OSU does come back, getting a field goal… the win is within sight! Laughable…a lot of coaching nonsense…

If they keep Riley, better petition to get into the Big Sky or other lesser conference.

  41. I am so fucking sick of seeing no sense of urgency out of this offense. Why in God’s name wouldn’t you get into a two minute offense? It literally took them 4 minutes to go 30 yards. You are down 30 points and you have no pride either. That is COMPLETELY on the coaching staff.

      • To me, it seemed as if Hallice Cooke’s departure (and his tweet) was the tipping point for BDC to finally fire CR. I’ve also wondered about Ed Ray’s part in the firing. My point being – a few recruits bowing out (although some don’t have any other offers) and perhaps a player transfer or two might, in addition to non-existent ticket sales, force the issue. If Riley is greedy enough to insist on the buy-out, one can only hope for a way to do it.

  42. I must be brave in facing my worst fucking nightmare….Civil War- Another disaster Mariota-Heisman…..Ducks-National Champs….Riley- here next year

  43. Mannion looks bad and has his draft potential plummeting. I largely blame his coaching. Johnny Hekker looked pretty bad with this coaching too. It’s gotta suck to be forced to play into your weakness by your coaches.

  44. I confess. I am responsible for Riley’s problems tonight. He read my criticism of him wearing too many layers of clothing and looking like a frail old man on the sideline. It looks like he is only wearing a hoodie and he’s freezing his ass off, he can’t think straight. I apologize.

  45. Think about a Matt Wells hire or someone nearly as good as that. By bringing them in shortly after Tinkle we would have a great pair of coaches in the major sports to look forward to for the next 7 or more years. Like building a great sports team. If you can have Jordan (Wells) and Pippen (Tinkle) on the same team and at similar stages in their career where you can build something truly special than that is the best possible scenario you should be shooting for. All this nonsense would be over and we could be in a great place for nearly a decade to come with coaches on the rise. How could this shit from Riley possibly be preferable?!? Even an idiot like BDC must know this.

    • I want to agree, but withBDC just cashing checks and focusing on his health, these thoughts don’t cross his mind. He has previously stated he doesn’t believe his job involves evaluating coaching. (I guess his job is not signing home and home agreements with Michigan types and mostly just cashing checks).

      • He actually said that? Was it printed? What sort of freakin idiot says he’s not responsible for evaluating the people that WORK FOR HIM!!!??? It would be funny if it wasn’t so pitiful.

    • Jarmon, Justin Strong, Woods, Seumalo, Mageo……….all deserve better coaching, all form a nucleus of a team which a decent coach could lead to more than 6 wins, IMHO.

    • Worst linebacking coaching at D1 level. Bankers scheme requires an assignment read. Ucks offense takes advantage of that specifically. This scheme will never beat that scheme

      • Then Bray’s gotta take some heat. Everyone seems high on him and Brennan but are they as good as we’d like to think? We like that they’re young and seemed to be engaged by LB’s waiting 3 seconds post snap before reacting!? WTF!

        • There is not a coach on this staff that doesn’t deserve extreme heat. I would never hire someone who could allow such lack of detail to exist around him.

  46. Hey if you want to see a GOOD football game switch over the Alabama-Auburn game. Its a barn burner (especially by SEC standards).

How awesome would it be to have ZERO SEC teams in the playoff?

  47. So your best DT has to go off because his helmet comes off and it’s 4th and goal. Why don’t you call time out to get him back in the game. You don’t use them all any way.

  48. Boise St. is extremely tough at home unlike the Beavs. Brian Harsin also would be a huge upgrade over Riley. Wells and Harsin should get serious looks in the coming weeks as well as others. Anyone next year but Riley. Him coming back will spell doom for this program. Stadium will be over half empty. People are done with this staff.

  49. Utah State’s QB just ran it in for a TD from 15 yards out on a designed run. Thing of beauty and the type of play we would have to look forward to with Wells as our coach.

  50. Storm(y) showing more heart by hisself than Riley/Mannion/Read, et al.
Now an opportunity for the very special teams coach to dial up an onsides kick.

  51. Garbage Time~!

    Come on grab your friends

We’ll go to very distant lands

Mike the Coach and Sean the QB

    The L’s will never end

    Garbage Time!

      • He said something like he knows things I don’t know, then got all furious. I assumed he meant about football and/or Riley as a coach, but it could be that. I told him he’s free to educate me, but he’s been silent.

        • I have some inside info but can’t divulge it is code for I can’t win this argument. Not only is Riley a piss poor coach but he looks physically off kilter to me.

DeCareless should have done what Pat Summit did when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. He’s not only incompetent but he’s also a selfish ego maniac hanging on when the baton should have been passed. I’m on record here as only wishing him well against his fight with Parkinson’s but lately it’s almost like he’s leveraging his fight in order to defend his mistakes and get an extension. I can’t believe the guy’s serious about trying to milk the University for another few years.

          Shame on Opie ans BDC.

          • DA loves a Riley who is no longer present. The current Riley is slow, unimaginative, incompetant, a poor recruiter, and in general a terrible coach. Also, he is clearly demented, as the legacy he once built is slipping away with every season he hangs on. If he doesnt retire soon, he will be run out of town. Its a shame, but inevitable. So he continuing is a clear sign of dementia. Someone close to him needs to talk some sense into him….

        • He was saying that fans on twitter don’t know enough about football to intelligently criticize Riley (or any coach). Honestly, If you think you know more than DA about football I’m not sure that I believe you.

Most general fans of football can’t make many more observations other than “things aren’t working,” and they are pretty much just guessing the reasons why.

          • That’s pretty much bullshit. It’s not a complicated game, and anyone who says it is may be straining their brain a little too hard.

It is pretty much an old boys’ club in terms of who gets to coach on the levels where people get paid big money. So that may elicit an illusion that it’s “hard” to understand.

Since the general public never gets a chance to try, the general public obviously can’t do it. Sound logic, that.

Judging by just about every home game, most of the crowd knows time management better than all of our coaches combined… apparently. Think back over time and tell who the most knowledgeable TV announcers were. Were they former football players? Were they trained journalists. Was it a mixed bag?

The last couldn’t possibly be true. I’d much rather listen to Troy Aikman talk about football than someone like a Howard Cosell.

Holy crap that last sentence is so very far from true it’s not funny.

  52. 30 yards of penalties in 2 downs for OSU when having a first and goal. Classic shitty Riley. Fuck you DeCareLess!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  53. One takeaway, FWIW, the D didn’t look as gassed as I expected in the second half; DB’s out of position and LB’s unable to cover receivers. But, the D overall didn’t seem as gassed as I remember in past encounters with a team which plays at a good pace.
Not that it matters, and I admit I may be mistaken…and, they don’t have nearly the speed of the ucks…oh well.

  54. So a junior defense last year without Michael Doctor held the Ducks to 36 points and intercepted Mariota twice on the road.. A 9 senior defense with a healthy Doctor gave up 30 points in the first half at home. And Banker should still have a job because???

  55. “Recruiting is a big big issue for us obviously” – Mike Riley

“Steadfast loyalty is what this program is all about” (too much for its own good, sadly)

  56. Riley will continue with his ways as long as he can get away with it. OSU is a lost cause until BDC goes. And i really hope no one from within the bdc staff replaces him.

  57. I attended the 1979 (?) Civil War at OSU as a student. It was the day when both OSU and UO had crappy teams and were always 9th and 10th in the PAC 10. When OSU lost, we chanted “We’re on the bottom. We’re on the bottom….”
    Here we are again.

  58. oh man am I glad I boycotted and went and did something with the fam. Some of these comments are hilarious! C’mon. It’s Riley folks. We KNEW this was going to happen. Best thing that can happen is they lose a shitload of season ticket holders for next year. Apathy has already set in. Vote with your wallets.
