    • Schnell’s article was the worst well-poisoning I’ve seen yet.

Perception is reality, and I’m afraid that the “you can’t win in Corvallis” line is becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Ironically, the Riley defenders are picking this time to double down on bashing Corvallis- now, when defending Riley is completely irrelevant to OSU. They’re no longer even propping Riley up- they’re just actively tearing the new regime (whoever it is) down.

        • BUT HE DID IT WITH RILEY’S RECRUITS!! …I can hear it now.

I’ve always thought that is an incredibly disingenuous jab at Erickson’s Fiesta Bowl win. Riley has never been a good recruiter, and the most talented players on that team were Erickson’s own JUCO additions.

C’mon guys, the party line is more with less! Not less with more! At least get your story straight.

  1. Mike Riley loves OS and Corvallis. There’s no way he wanted to leave. And Dee, are you kidding, you’re husband comes home one day and says, “pack up, we’re leaving our grandson and all our friends behind and moving to Nebraska”… Right. Riley did a very decent thing, let OS out of a bad situation and did it with class and dignity. He’s a good guy, his time had come, he realized it, and did what needed to be done. Enough of the Opie and other insults.

Having said that, I support the change, feel like we need someone young and enthusiastic, and hope BDC can pull off another great hire like did in both basketball programs. But your right, the time to move is Now.

    Go Cats

        • LOL … he did OSU a favor. What planet do you live on?

He didnt need to bail to do us a favor. Restructure the contract, WORK HARDER, and assign an assistant to handling the time critical game situations.

What IS clear…. he didnt love OSU and Corvallis….he didnt value continuity, family, loyalty….

What he did, for the SECOND time, is bail on the program, for a greener pasture…. Its just the usual coaching ego stuff….money, prestige, national prominence…. Dont sugar coat something that is dirty.

    • Bob, Opie left us twice now and candidly I’m ecstatic that he’s gone however it happened. He’ll last 3 seasons in Lincoln and that’s if he’s pushed to hire decent coordinators. If he takes the current staff it will be San Diego part II. Waaay overrated and a three time lottery winner. Post Osborne the Huskers have been fools for firing coaches that average 9 wins. He’s in for a rude awakening.

  2. Oregon law requires the job to be posted for either 5 or 7 days before they can make a hire, nothing OSU can do about that. Hopefully, its been posted but that has to happen first so even if they have someone hired it can’t legally be announced.

  3. How soon would you like the hire made angry? Next 7-10 days seems about right. Any more and it does become distracting. Would like to see them announce a couple interviews within next 5 days.

    • I’d just like some update on what’s going on, but if it would be illegal that explains it. Hopefully they’re not farting around…because that’s how it seems when you hear nothing for this long.

  4. Mamma Machado insinuating a decommit, on cue.

    Commit reaction: Adrienne Talan Reply
Not a good sign for Beavs as Talan is completely up in the air now and most likely would follow Bray.

What will be interesting is to see if Riley tries to take recruits with him to Nebraska. He was so angry with Keith Heyward when he left to go to Washington and a couple recruits followed him. Wonder what he’s going to do now…

  5. It happened yesterday…as Jeff says it legally has a time element to hiring an employee. Flip it around…if they announced today they were hiring Banker, Del Rio, or any other coach you don’t want, you would be up in arms.

Which in a sense, many Huskers fans are saying about Riley…too soon~not enough due diligence, better coaches not contacted, etc.

    Go Beavs!

  6. Is it bad I want Wilcox to be the guy, but not purely due to his coaching prowess. I would mostly want him as the coach to Fuck up Sark, shake up his staff and steal recruits. Petty?

    • I don’t care if it takes a couple weeks if we get the right guy. Not really in love with our recruiting class so if they jump ship whatever.

  7. Oregon law requires us to interview a minority candidate. Any good minority coaches available? Could help dispel the idea that Corvallis is a racist town… wasn’t there an SI article or something like that?

  8. Ducks fans all over spouting off about character vs winning, which is a complete joke coming from a fanbase whose team is doing nothing but winning. And the sad thing is they don’t even understand why they should shut their mouths when I bring it up.

      • CK is NOT a high character guy. He valued winning over everything. See the Lyerla story. CK put up with Lyerla’s bullshit. Helfrich would not and that’s why he was asked to leave

  9. Researching Baldwin since I think that’s who BDCheapskate will hire.

    Some Baldwin clips:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELHqiamNw5s

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gw3XYaffu00

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKr-5p3sb64

His philosophy here is pretty smart. But I’m skeptical still…defenses have some ugly numbers, and I’m not sure how this attitude will work vs the wolves in the Pac-12.

Jack what is your take on this guy? I feel like he’d be perceived as a dud hire. But I like what he’s saying about the mental part of the game. That’s refreshing. Bad defenses, though and sounds like a player’s coach.

He’s definitely more mentally in-tune than Riley. Seems to stress psychology. I do like that part. Media was saying he’s a lot like Riley, but I don’t see that, either. I’m warming up to him.

    • It’s gotta be a rough transition, especially without doing time as a coordinator to acclimate to the higher level of competition. In fairness though:

      1) Baldwin has been significantly more successful than Wulff

      2) Wulff had basically nothing when he took the job. OSU’s talent level right now – lackluster as it
is- is orders of magnitude better than what Wulff inherited.

      3) Others may disagree on this but I think Wulff was poised for a good year right before they let him go. IMO they cut him off a year too soon. Leach walked into a much better situation, and frankly hasn’t done much better.

  10. If we hire Baldwin, you think he’s able to bring Vernon Adams with him? That could be a serious game changer that could salvage the next couple of years.

  11. I’ve been pretty impressed with Baldwin’s pre game comments prior to playing OSU the last couple times. Paraphrasing:

“We’re not just happy to be here. We don’t want this to be just an opportunity to grow as a team. We intend to win.”

Seems like a stark contrast to Riley in recent CWs. I like that he approaches “unwinnable” games with confidence and a can-do attitude. Don’t think we’ll have to worry about finding an identity anymore.
