  1. Radio Note: Play by play will be done by Ron Callan, he has a 100% record for wins in FB games he has broadcast (1), and is 100% so far with WBB. FWIW

  2. Finally!! Episode 11 of the never-ending season. Will be a replay of the first 10 episodes. Beavs hang in the first half. Disintegrate in the second when; Hall sugar high wears off and they fail to adjust. Nall scores a late meaningless touchdown, again, to make it 35-21.

PS: If you’re at the game its Senior day. Watch out for extra walkers in the aisles and long bathroom lines. Cheerleaders have been working on special “down in front” cheer in their honor.

  3. Hoping for a win for the Seniors and for Hall to get some DC consideration with a win since he was more involved in the defense this week. If Beavs pull off the W, I hope Hall talk doesn’t get carried away leading into Civil War. Simply don’t believe Beavs will have enough offensive identity under him and not be able to get hardly any road wins. Today we get a better idea if he has potential as a DC.

31 ASU, 27 OSU is my gut but Beavs should have shot to win it.

    • You mention the CW. I’ve been thinking this game today is actually a “two-fer”; if the Beavs win today their chances in the CW go way up*. Team needs to “learn to win”, I think there is a good chance they do today.

*W/O a win today I see the CW as a pick ’em; with a win maybe Beavs by 7

    • potential as DC? after that, I think not. He’s coached (or rather, un-coached, himself out of that job. Interesting, a month ago I saw him as a prospect for the head job, now I don’t think ANY of those guys should be back, including Hall.

  4. This 76 “Let’s just let Destiny take the wheel” commercial is the douchiest most faux-clever trying too hard commercial ever. Yeah, the guy’s named Destiny. Right.

  5. Isn’t a rule u have to have your moutguard in? I think the qb had it in his facemask on that td. I guess if u know ur not going to get hit. Lol

      • His message would have lasted had Nall not choked and they beat Stanford, once that happened I knew his message was dead.

I still think he can be a fit on a staff though.

        • Yeah I like him, but you can only do the rah rah thing so much before substance must prevail.

Also think he’s too much a “player’s coach” based on what I’ve seen and heard.

          • with the passage of time, we also see he is fond of propagating that narrative that the assistant coaches are good at making half time adjustments. The same crew that during the first half of the season could never get their units prepared for the second half are now geniuses at locker room adjustments. not buying it. what’s really going on is that our opponents race ahead to a ridiculous lead, cannot believe how bad their opponent (OSU) is, and lose focus.

        • “His message would have lasted had Nall not choked and they beat Stanford”
So very true. Gotta “learn” how to win.
Changing my mind about the CW, if these guys can’t get up for Senior day I wonder about CW

          • Chip Kelly always took his foot off the gas because he knew it was in his self interest not to embarrass his in-state rival for fear the OSU administration might do something radical and can Riley after getting beat 72-0. Taggert, unlike Chip, has had a frustrating year, Herbert too, plus revenge from last year, all points to an epic beat down next week

      • I knew it was over for Hall when, after the Cal game, he started talking about how his job was about “life” and “building men” etc. That’s important work, truly, and organizations like Boys & Girls Clubs, Big Brothers, etc. are vital in that regard, but it’s NOT what coaching football is primarily about.

      • I get that impression, too. I think some of these guys are already thinking about next year and don’t want to get hurt prior to transferring somewhere else – certainly not playing with the emotion that I have seen over the last several games. Sheesh – just 3 offensive plays so far – I am so looking forward to a clean slate next year.

  6. Man this is gonna be UGLY.

This has got to be the worst OSU team in a very long time. Does anyone know how far we have to go back to challenge this team?

We have one win against a WINLESS FCS opponent. We were also PSU’s closest loss.

I feel like people aren’t recognizing how terrible things are for our program right now.

    • if you think it wasn’t watchable on TV, imagine what it was like in the stadium. There was a decent crowd there too, at the beginning, because it was Dads/Family weekend. I saw a personal record, people leaving before the first quarter was over. Previous record was the UW game in 2015 when people started leaving in the middle of the second quarter

  7. Shittiest combined defense and offense I think I have ever seen.

Yurcich has had 3 Top 10 offenses while at Oklahoma State and regularly scores 40 and sometimes even close to 50 points. Much more what OSU needs to win.

    • Don’t forget WBB at 11 tomorrow and WVB later. Two teams that come to play and show it on the court as well as sideline.
Bonus, Rueck has a pretty good replacement for Mandy on staff.

  8. Is hudson hurt? Play the paynes. Run with garretson more. Maybe take some deep shots (he has to be due right)? Have to switch something up. Maybe woods should call plays.

    • of course, Graham DID call off the dogs, but the post game narrative was all about those great half time adjustments by the coaching staff and how OSU kept grinding.

  9. I hope the next coach moves beyond selling early playing time and instead develops talent that can play productively as juniors and seniors.

  10. The part that pisses me off is that Anderson completely ran this program into the ground and just walks away leaving the players and other coaches to deal with this shit. I’m glad that he is gone but he at least could have had the balls to stay until the season was over.

    • I hope he is – I know I am; that was almost his second fumble. What do you think that he is pissed about – the play calling? He is probably a nice enough kid but should most likely have stayed at Utah State.

    • good call, WFO. at some point during the last few weeks Hall intimated to the team that he wasn’t going to get the permanent job. His candidacy was the last line of defense in keeping the team somewhat accountable. Now, there’s nobody watching from a coaching perspective to keep the team honest, so this is the result. the second half “comebacks” are the result of our opponents knowing the game is in the bag and they don’t have to try very hard anymore

    • the point is, the running backs are not used to the QB keeping the ball on the option because it was never in the playbook when Luton was starting and we know, per Eggers, it was kept out of the playbook after Luton got hurt because the coaching staff wanted to preserve Conor Blount’s red shirt. Talk about misplaced priorities.

  11. Mike Yurcich better get an interview. Beavs have no offense or defense. To be losing 30-0 at home with 5 minutes left in 1st half has to be among worst home performance in OSU history.

    • you have only to look at the retrogression of Villamin from a freshman to this year to see how profoundly lacking our coaching staff is in terms in player development. There’s really not a player out there who is any better than when he arrived as freshman directly out of high school or jc.

    • Nope! I watch the first half and then I’m done. That gives me enough footage of this team to realize Hall is not ready to be anywhere close to a HC job. The two close games were creativity and players hyped up. After watching the game last week and this week, that hype has warn off completely. These coaches are so bad, they can’t even get guys in the right position. Why did they move the center position around with only 2 games left in the season? Ironic how Angry stated we’d have multiple bad snaps a game, but they never came; how many did we have this game with a new center? We need a new coach who knows how to hire good assistants and knows how to work with
them. J Smith does not fit that mold at this time in my book.

Bronco’s players played a really good tough close first half with Miami today. It was fun to watch, disciplined football. The senior QB was at one point 11 for 11 in the first half before throwing a ball away. Competent senior QB play vs DG giving up a safety on a throw away because he couldn’t throw near a receiver and past the LOS. If it is bronco, it wouldn’t be a bad hire IMO. I actually like it better than Tedford.

  12. Oregon media is as big a joke as OSU football

EDIT: His later tweets make it sound like he’ll talk about it on his podcast, so I take my comments back if that’s what he’s planning.

For what it’s worth – I had someone tell me a big reason why Andersen left OSU and the money today. Makes a TON of sense and I wonder if anyone’s going to dig into it and report.— Brandon Sprague (@BrandonSprague) November 18, 2017

Isn't reporting it kind of your job?— Ian Gillespie (@IanG808) November 18, 2017

Nooope. I’m radio host and thats a topic that doesn’t serve my radio audience.— Brandon Sprague (@BrandonSprague) November 18, 2017

      • Absolutely! I never followed him on social, but forced myself to listen a couple times. The combo of not being very savvy and so often talking about his drinking is a real turn off for me.

        • I’ve noticed that about Sprague too. Every single show he throws in some reference about his drinking escapades, like the audience is impressed by that sort of thing. He comes off as an adult who never really partied when he was younger, so he has to make up for lost time. We get it, you got hammered over the weekend. Nice work, buddy.

  13. Disappointing showing today. Beavs fallen out of last two games early.

Now Villamin may be hurt after a decent catch on play before.

Tough matchup for Cal tonight vs Stanford. We’ll see if Bears can keep it close om the road against a Stanford team that still has a real chance at Pac-12 North title. If Tree wins tonight abd UW beats WSU in Apple Cup then Stanford takes the title. Cougs control their destiny.

  14. I’d like to remind everyone Crapperpants is still getting paid through the end of the season. That’s a lot of money. Let’s remember that before giving him too much credit for walking away without the later money, leaving the assistant staff holding the bag.

  15. So we paid a search firm 200k for them to narrow it down to Beau Baldwin or Jonathan Smith? What a waste of money.

Also, neither of them will excite me at all.

    • Two quick points:
      1. I have no idea how much we are paying the search firm, or if it is even worthwhile, but the $200,000 aspect is overblown. That was the maximum allowed in the deal. According the Kerry Eggers it is not close to that amount.
      2. In response to if this team is further along, I have zero clue. Largely due to the fact that this team was so poorly coached, especially up front, that I have no idea what to make of them. Physically, it seems we have better/bigger athletes, but it certainly isn’t translating.

      • We’re a good QB away from being competitive each game. A healthy D with more seniors would help, too. If we get a QB and the D seasons for a year under a real HC, we will be alright.

The QB is so intertwined with how the D looks…moving the chains and keeping the D off the field is what makes D’s look good. Even NFL D’s mostly suck. D is very difficult. Need the O to make you look good.

          • Yep, and Luton isn’t a Pac 12 QB from what I see. He actually might be better than Garretson, but neither is good enough to be the guy who makes clutch plays that move the chains and keep the D off the field. That and smart decisions is what QB is all about. 3rd and x is a QBs living. Have to convert those, and it’s why I harp on completion %.

        • JIm Wilson was making the point Angry does here. a competent QB gets his team’s offense in sync, moving the chains, eating clock, etc and every minute an opponent’s D is on the field is a minute their offense is NOT finding their groove.

      • Eggers also says OSU coach could make 3+ million. So could care less if the searcb firm bill is a little shy of max and comes in at 180K. Paying Miles 3+ million is understandable but that is nearly twice what you need to pay a Baldwin or Smith.

So be happy about saving 20K or so to the search firm but if we way overpay for guys getting their first Power Five opportunity, then OSU will be spending millions it doesn’t really have to. If Baldwin is the guy it should be a sub 2 million deal. Any coach will need to have enough funds available for talented coordinators which is critical and where OSU has lagged for years.

          • Maybe, stand by it. Its very unlikely he gets drafted. Guess he could show something as an undrafted guy. I doubt it though.

If you are right and he leaves I guess we will find out. My bet is that when he asks for an evaluation the NFL doesn’t give him good news.

          • He’s enormous, fast, and has an insane YPC for his career. Many NFL teams interested in him as a FB, some as a RB and even LB.

He’ll for sure get drafted, I’d say 4th round.

          • Who are these “many NFL teams” you are hearing from about this?

No chance he goes in Round 4.

But as I said, I guess we will find out. He might make it as a FB but he won’t be drafted as a FB, NFL teams rarely draft FBs

          • Just to be clear, I agree with you that Nall can play in the NFL, I just don’t agree that he will get that chance as a drafted player.

The NFL will view him as a short yardage back who doesn’t have breakaway speed and that guy doesn’t get drafted.

          • The bad teams will view him that way. I can see Pete Carroll or some other team in PAC country taking him, or New England. Teams that see him or know what they’re doing will grab him. Dude is a freak.

          • Yeah, they will grab him as an undrafted free agent (maybe a flyer in the 7th round). Smart teams don’t spend 4th round picks on guys that will fall.

I see a 0% chance he goes in round 4. No way.

          • Friendly wager, he goes 5th round latest.

NFL teams are dumb. They draft Jamarcus Russell and dozens of similar bozos every year. A smart team will grab Nall 5th latest.

      • Don’t know if he goes to the NFL, but the team, as a whole, should play with some passion. If your number 1 Guy has none, there is something seriously wrong. Never seen in 50 yrs of OSU football such non-“emotion” like today. And, I’ve seen some bad football.

        • Yeah the effort was an F. They gave up. This is what it looks like when a team is playing for themselves/to avoid injury and give up on the staff.

  16. Is there a “Rueck Model” for picking a new HC for FB? A “Casey Model”?

Both had success as HC in a program at a lower level, both are lifetime NW guys. Both are clear in stating their expectations and core values.

    What else?

  17. Arizona taking it to the Ducks at Autzen.

I’m not sure about this CW…thought we’d win it before seeing Herbert come back + our awful effort today.

        • I went to the game today and was one of the few that stayed the whole game. I guess I enjoy to suffer but reading body language the team had hit the tipping point towards quoting prior to the game…. very few of them seemed hyped pregame and that obviously never changed. I saw finger pointing and frustration after plays in fact after one series it looked like our safety and one of the corners were going to fight on the sideline…. I’m afraid the team is lost. I had hope for next week until I compare our effort and body language vs what I am seeing from the ucks on tv…..sad day….. I sure hope our hire is a game changer…. don’t want to live through another 28 years of what we had in the past….

          • There is a lot of mayhem in the AD.
Barnes is questionable (Pitt fans say he’s horrible; I haven’t been impressed).
So, it’s a modern day low point. Things can change fast, though. We’ll see.

          • I didn’t see the players give up. It’s more that they don’t have the depth or coaching to compete consistently. Tough to be a player who’s producing on a bad team. If they say nothing to each other, that’s giving up. Getting on a teammate is not giving up.

          • Bill perhaps I miss read the body language but comparing the way players interacted last year prior and during the civil war last year for an example and the way they acted towards each other today….it was a stark contrast…. today was more like the last year of Riley … there in body not in spirit…. I truly can’t blame the kids they have been decimated with injuries their coach quit on them we as fans haven’t shown up (also with good cause) but if they haven’t given up and if there isn’t in fighting I am miss reading what I saw. I sure hope I am. One more game to build toward something new and something better.

  18. The shit keeps piling on, I thought Portland State was going to at least be a decent FCS team, they are going to go 0-11. They outplayed and outgained the Beavs. The Beavs only win is going to come against a winless FCS. Fuck, I can’t nightmare this shit.

  19. If Barnes was hired because he was in GA’s corner and seemed to bring stability for a long term GA run, why is he now making the next hirte? It seems like a mistake to entrust a GA guy (from Utah again) with this decision.

    • Very poor weather conditions, team arrived only 90 minutes before the game because they needed a snowplow escort to the stadium and they win on the road. I know it’s only the MWC, but that is still impressive. I’d take Tedford as HC. Fresno would lay the wood to the Beavers if they were to play next week.

    • Good for him – he gets to go bowling. I am glad the kid distanced himself from this shitfest and made the most of his remaining eligibility.

      • Yup.

He did everything for himself, not the team he committed to and left without a contingency for his loss.

        Good for him.

We must praise that kind of quitter, not the kind we try to discern from that type of quitter.

          • The QB who stayed committed to OSU is a liar… a self-important ass who just wants to redshirt for the glory of all that is a walk-on.

            Stupid selfish QB!

          • Must hate on the QB who was adult enough to make a decision about his life months ago, got a promise from the coaches and stuck with that life decision.

I mean… he could have totally just ditched his team, leaving them with only Darrell Garretson and a walk-on dude who was promised a redshirt season… like promises are even something we need to respect.

        • When you are wrong you go way out there, I suppose thinking that the more outrageous you are the more folks will shy away from engaging you. Normally I don’t because you’re so full of yourself it’s wasted energy.

          You’re simply … a bully!

    • Just checking in, haven’t most of the ucks fouls been emotion vs administrative? While foolish, emotion or effort fouls are more desirable, problem for OSU is that any kind of penalty requires a productive response which often seems out of reach for the Beavs.

I’m really concerned for the CW, hate to feel negative with a week to go.

    • Why would the Ducks D be surprising concerning Tate?

That’s tho ONLY thing they can do. Our D today looked like their D last year in the CW.

But some people want to make it all about MM… the quitter.

Make it up. Slurp it down.

  20. Never tried not anchoring, using Thumb and two fingers. Been considering focus on steady bass (muted thump w/o alternating). Up till now most of my experience is pattern picking with alt bass.

    • So Travis picking? That’s a good starting point.
Some blues players (e.g. mance lipscomb) would only play one bass note. Alternating isn’t mandatory. I personally like to learn the hardest method, so alternating all 3 bass strings with 3 fingers playing melody, and then back off from there. So sometimes I’ll just play one bass note and two fingers, but if I need the others it’s all there. I think it’s the way to go. No anchor is harder but better because you can get the 3rd finger involved easier and also do things like fans and other embellishments/articulations easier.

While watching the Beavs just alternate the bass until it’s second nature. Then add melody strings later. That’s the best method.

      • Maybe I’m being too conservative, but I feel that starting with the hardest method would lead to discouragement. For me.

EDIT: Just saw your added suggestion for practicing while watching Beavs, I will try that. Thanks!

        • Better to learn it outright than have to re-learn it later after you master the easier method. Read the book “zen guitar” if you feel discouraged. This is a journey. Go slowly.

          • I’ve been on an acoustic Corey Taylor kick lately. Don’t know if you’ve listened to any Stone Sour or Slipknot but dude is an awesome song writer. Mostly heavy shit but he writes acoustic stuff for both bands.

I’ve been working on Zyzzyx Road, Imperfect and Snuff lately. Nothing particularly technical but I learn the guitar and vocals so there’s more to it. Check em out if you’ve never listened.

        • Listen to Paul Butterfield.

He knew what was what. If you can’t translate the notes because you’re an axe guy, not a music guy… cool. Just listen and enjoy.

You can head off to anywhere from there.

          • Were you at the game Jack? Just curious if the first half energy was as low in person as it appeared on TV. They looked #HallOut of energy.

          • No. I was running truckloads of canned food here and there.

I wanted to go to the hoops game. But my season tickets suck because the football morons who never show up for hoops have all the good seats.

That’s not really true. I enjoy ditching the seatbacks, which are made for midgets, and sitting on the end lines. Sometimes I sit nosebleed, center court. If you’ve been paying attention, you know what I look like.

I had obligations today which kept me from doing much. Such is life.
