Go Beavs.
I’ll be gone the entire game, unfortunately, so no in-game commentary or analysis, but will try to catch it on YouTube tomorrow morning and give thoughts then.
P.S. Go Luton!
Go Beavs.
I’ll be gone the entire game, unfortunately, so no in-game commentary or analysis, but will try to catch it on YouTube tomorrow morning and give thoughts then.
P.S. Go Luton!
We owe them Cowboys some payback!
Go Beavs!!!!
We do?
Baseball.
As long as we done get embarrassed I’ll call it a moral victory.
[dramatic sports narration voice] “This is for the right to wear orange and black…to decide who wears “OSU’…..”
I can hear Keith Jackson saying that now
How much you want to bet the Oklahoma State QB is going to be touted as some dynamic QB superstar by the time this game is over (and then will fall back down to earth hard later in the year)
I can see it on the broadcast already (puke)
Gary and Utah State up 20-17 at Wake Forest
Time to celebrate and impregnate some cheerleaders.
Has this happened before?
Any QBs leaping defenders? Checking scores looks like wf 24, big boy pants 21…3 qtr
I’m at Reser watching the Beavs warm up. I can tell that Luton is twice the QB Gebbia is because Luton is #6 and #Gebbia #3.
Dont you start with the lower number? Gebbia is three numbers better than Luton.
No. On a scale of 1 to 10, a 6 is better than a 3.
What is the crowd size looking like?
15 min to game time. Maybe 20% full, or less.
Plenty of good seats still available.
Alright guys, I’m up on the hill so keep the updates coming. Don’t be shy.
The hill?
Talking heads talking up ok state…wheee
I like Petros but holy crap he looks ghastly today
Nice first drive so far, good passes, rushes
Eldridge not starting. FS1 has that wrong.
Ummmmmm wow
Touchdown on first drive wooooooo! That looked a little too easy
Blocking looks better then the last 3-4 years.
Nice start,
Woooooooooooooo!!!!!!!
Right? We know we can score but can we stop anyone?
NNNNNOPE!
Offensive line won that first drive right there. Keep it up!!
Who called it earlier that Sanders would run all over us Banker style?
Cowboys O line looks huge.
We better keep scoring
Need a very long scoring drive to give the defense time to adjust.
Luton run for a first down?! *mind blown*
Choker made a field goal *mind blown again*
Luton got a little gunslinger on that first down.
That was a nice throw.
He looked like he side armed it. But it was a good throw.
He does look like he’s moving well.
Who?
Luton
Choker with the 30-yarder… Baby steps
Should have been 7, that was on Baylor going the wrong way on first down
Exactly
Dumb substitution to put in the third string back in the red zone. The F up on first down cost us.
Yes, that was questionable. Jamar is obviously first option.
This drive. Error after error.
2 steps forward 3 steps back.
I still dont understand why our db’s dont look for the ball. That pi would have been a pick if Morris just looks for the ball.
It’s because they’re used to getting beat, so they don’t expect to be there before the ball.
Can’t get off the field on 3rd down, same issue as last year
Gumbs has been everywhere tonight. He definitely has a nose for the ball.
Gumbs looks like a player.
And our secondary looks like crap again.
But hey, we eventually got the stop and only gave up 3!
You can tell the D is MUCH more athletic than last year and has actually made some nice plays this evening so far. Just can’t get off the field on 3rd down due to some mistakes and blown assignments. I think we finally have the talent to possibly have a respectable D. Time will tell.
I agree. They have improved.
Well maybe not.
I take it back.
Great job by the d not giving up a second td on that drive
Results on D still look like last year: a few nice run stuffs wasted giving up big gains.
These FS1 commentators are TERRIBLE.
Do we have another badass punter? I feel conflicted that our best player is often our punter lol
3rd down, QB stares down his target, but our DB is like 15 yards back for some reason so they complete it. What else is new.
Defense just collapsed on that drive. Gave up massive yards on several plays, no stops at all.
2018 Beavers defense showed up.
I don’t care what Petros says – “Here we go again, it’s just like last year.”
That chainsaw is a fucking curse. The Beavs have been conditioned to give up big plays when they hear the chainsaw.
get Luton the f…… out of there. Please, he has nothing to offer as a leader, put Gebbia in NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
!
That’s enough of Luton. Bring on Gebbia and start the future.
2 drives in a row no runs for Jefferson…Is Riley calling the plays now from Texas?
either the play calling is shit or Luton is what was expected. Give him one more drive and if we don’t score then pull him. Bad experiment.
I’m just checking the play by play but either Jefferson is hurt or the OC is retarded.
https://youtu.be/v4jGSvxCRp4
Omar Hicks-Onu has been a disaster in the first half.
The secondary is hot garbage.
I’d call him Tim Tibanker but that would be insulting to Banker.
5 opponent drives, 4 TDs and a FG
It would be nice to have a Banker defense on the field.
Read your post again….incredible that anyone would say such a thing after all that has been suffered at the hands of Banker defenses
Go look at Bankers resume as the DC for us. We were sometime excellent at defense meet him, but typically we did okay. We’ve been shitty ever since.
So the defense looked better because the offense sucks.
The only suspense left is which of Ok State’s players wins Big 12 POTW.
It’s like we have 11 Europeans who have never seen an American football game before playing on defense. We just gave them jerseys and said have at it.
I’m being somewhat sarcastic, but how long can Smith continue with Tibesar? The angles are shit, the tackling is crap and the secondary has been clueless.
If it continues ( who are we kidding, it will ) he better be gone by the end of the season.
The Beavs are looking like a 3 win team. So no surprises.
We are a good team for one series! Lol… I love how our offensive play calling is working… score a touchdown? Don’t use anything from that drive for the rest of the game… we may be worse than we were last season
So does Luton have time and just can’t connect, is he putting the ball where it needs to be and the receivers can’t finish, what’s the story here?
If he can’t put together a respectable 2 minute drill he needs to sit the second half.
You wanted a 2 minute drill, you got it.
There has been like 6-7 drops.
Bad protection and he keeps having passes tipped at the line.
Hes had receivers drop a few also.
At the game. Ok st Wallace is a legit wr. Explosive when he touches the ball.
I feel like Gebbia should get a series or two just to see what he’s got. Luton isn’t playing bad, the defense hasn’t stopped anything. It’s pretty clear it’s a talent issue. Ok st isn’t out scheming, it’s out executing.
I think Togai has dropped two so far, so his “big” senior year is off to a slow start.
How long till the first forced punt of the season by the OSU defense?
Week 2
On pace to give up 62.,..not enough game balls to go around on Okie state offense..,wonder how that new Beaver D attitude is holding up?
We definitely failed in defense recruiting the last few years. We’re likely going exceed our average yds allowed from last year.
Does Tibesar consider speed an asset for a defensive player?
He probably does, he just can’t recruit it.
The only consolation I have has nothing to do with this game, it’s the fact that Gary Underpants coug’ed it against Wake Forest tonight. I do not want that dude to have any kind of success going forward.
No cheerleaders for Anderpants this weekend.
Nick Daschel May have oversestimated the value of Jordan wittley
Does Tibesar hold the world record for widest distance between eyeballs?
Actually he’s probably tied with ET
He might be phoning home.
I know I get wide-eyed watching his defense…
Tibesar appears to be in over his head. Defense is not improved from last year. At all.
My prediction of a win looking as bad as the defense.
Buh bye tibby. Get Keith Hayward like we should have in the first place.
My prediction is money so far:
“How much you want to bet the Oklahoma State QB is going to be touted as some dynamic QB superstar by the time this game is over (and then will fall back down to earth hard later in the year)”
…Yay.
Nice I made it home for a half.
Looks like things are playing out as expected.
Except the Cowboys have double and the Beavs have half of your predicted score.
What’s there to say anymore
That looked difficult………..
I need a word with Starcraft squall
What the fuck was that piece of shit D
At least the defense’s anthem is catchy. https://youtu.be/_asNhzXq72w
Good to see they made some half-time adjustments…
If you can’t recruit, coach or manage to put a defense on the field that provides one iota of resistance to your opponent then perhaps you should find a different line of work.
I’m officially on the fire Tibesar bandwagon. This is fucking pathetic. Gonna be a loooooong season again and I’m not subjecting myself to the aggravation. My optimism lasted all of one quarter.
Fuck this. Whiskey out until hoops season. I have better things to do with my time.
The Beavers best defensive play is to trap the other team’s coaches in the elevator.
They got the elevator and we got the shaft.
No, the Beavers’ best defensive play would be to trap Tibesar in the elevator
Hopefully Tibby takes that elevator back to kansas
Has anyone invented that space elevator yet?
Hodgins! Too good, three catches in 4 plays for…basically the entire field and a TD.
Why do our uniforms say BEAVS like we’re a goddamn commercial for the WNBA
It’s the fucking BEAVERS
God I miss Dennis Erickson.
Luton looks pretty good from the stats and drive I saw.
Atrocious D as we all figured.
Zero passion on D.
First 13 minutes of the second quarter he had a couple batted passes, didn’t have any touch (gunning everything), and didn’t target hodgins
On the plus side zero picks, zero sacks and better movement within pocket and rushed for two first diwns
Gotcha. I’m going by the stats and one drive I saw.
They have to be bullet passes on those short routes. They’re being batted down bc pressure.
Hmm…the offense works best when throwing to your best player. The three TD drives hodgins has played a mayor role. I’m call for the madden offense 22 catches 250 yards
So last 5 to 10 runs have been little to no gain. They have been daring Luton to beat them beyond the short routes. Now that the last two drives they have been airing it out some, finally seeing some success.
Angry claims the best version of Luton is the one that appears when the pressure is off and the game is out of hand.
Get ready for the gunslinger, count on 2 ints for the 2nd half, meanwhile they still lose by 21, Gebbia gets no reps and Jefferson doesn’t get much work.
Luton? We talking about Luton? Have you not seen our defense. Tom Brady could be our QB and it wouldn’t make a difference if we give up 700 yards.
Please don’t play the chainsaw under any circumstances when our defense is this much of a joke. It is way too embarrassing.
The Oklahoma state qb looks exactly as he did on his film. I guess we have a hs defense.
Yikes
Not a single defender was set when they snapped on that massive TD run.
So our improved defense lasted a quarter?
Sure if halftime counts as a quarter. That was only time they haven’t scored.
Which quarter?
“That was the parting of the Red Sea”
Buh bye Timmy Tibs
Yep, sounds like it’s time to throw some $$ at a real DC.
The money for a dc just went to fixing a 50 year old elevator on the shitty side of Reser.
Looks like another bottom 10 defense.
Remarkable they can’t improve at all despite all the transfers.
Not sure the solution on D since there is zero effort or passion. Seems like nobody wants to make a play and instead they are looking for the guy next to them to make it.
Hard to have passion for your job when your leaders are clueless
coaches don’t make errors smith hired the right guy. ;)
Chuba Hubbard, career high 213 yards!!!! LOL. Tibesar, the opposing RB’s best friend!!!
Still no touch on the deep ball and bad sack,
Luton terrible on that drive.
So how many plays until okla st scores another TD?
I say 5 plays
Anderpants and Tibesar both came from Wisconsin. Let’s stop “poaching” people from Wisconsin. I think it’s a trap.
3rd and 6 = automatic first down. Book it
Beautiful block by AP
Haha colletto. Love it. Jack is smiling in heaven.
Onside kick.
Jonathan Smith is a goddamn wizard on offense. Need to send Tibesar back to his home planet.
Is that 4 or 5 batted balls?
Checked stats: 4 passes defended by d linemen. Out of 7.
Does Luton ever pump fake? He get’s so many batted passes. It’s like he doesn’t even see defenders if they’re within 3 yds of him.
Like all gunslingers he thinks he can throw it through guys.
I suppose it could because he always rifles it instead of throwing touch passes.
How can you be 6’7 and have so many batted balls
This is how:
Okie state starting ends:
Tonight’s matchup will be interesting. Okie states starting defensive line is as follows:
DE: 6-4 242# RSo
6-5 245# RSr
6-3 227# Fr
DE: 6-4 265# RFr
6-4 280# RJr
6-0 300# Fr
Nice hit by #43 Luke Leonig
He’s got some Terrell Roberts in him. Get him on the field!
Should have onside kicked.
I moved to Nashville 5 years ago and my ten year old son hangs out with a rough crowd and he has fallen victim to peer pressure and is an Alabama fan?? Being a good Dad I’m talking him his first Bama game tomorrow in Atlanta. Looking forward seeing some real defense
The kids in Nashville are Bama fans? That seems weird.
How’s Nashville?
Never been but always associate it as Vegas for rednecks.
This reminds me of the 2008 Civil War. It’s obvious you can’t stop them, why NOT onside kick every time?
It’s scary when you know without a doubt that 3rd and 8 is going to be a touchdown.
Brian Grant is a bad mofo but his boy gave up that whole drive. Please make it stop.
We should never punt. Just roll the dice.
Or we should punt on 1st down and hope Oklahoma State runs out the clock.
What’s funny is that everyone was saying the Beavs defense has to be better this year because it couldn’t be worse than last year…
Yeah and unfortunately UConn played Wagner and gave up less than 200 yards, so the Beavs are headed towards the worst fucking defense this season!
Champ Flemings has some big nads for a little dude
Don’t want to know how you know that….
Luton = Goose
Great balls of fire maverick
Looking at Smith’s staff, was Tibesar the only real reach as a hire? I can’t think of any other coaches on the staff that weren’t already experienced/proven at their position. It’s time to call that hire a failure and make a real move.
They need a mercy rule for situations like this (for the viewers)
I agree with going for it on 4th regardless of outcome
WTF was that call?
The jack yard.
Jack called it from the heavens.
Any chance Gebbia comes in after the Cowboys score another TD?
Yes
And he looked good.
He’s surprisingly fast. Throws a TD.
Future beast.
Why would you not onside kick?
Exactly!!!!!
It was a 2 score game. Makes no sense and shows no fight.
Chances were good (like 90% good) that they would score also.
Gebbia throws a nice ball. Seemed a little jittery on that drive. I wish we could see some more of him.
Such a disappointing home opener. Unbelievable that we never stopped but one third down and long situation in at least ten tries, ok, make it twice. Horrible coaching from Smith and Tibs. Smith needs to involve himself in both offense and defense play calling. What a difference in their mobile qb running all over the field, and Luton sliding to the ground several yards in front of any potential tackler. Unfair to put Gebbia in with 3 minutes to play, but we can at least see the much greater potential he offers us. Never should have started Luton, we were beaten before the game even started . Tibs appears to be a very poor defensive coach as evidenced by our boys inability to make any turnovers or any big play in the entire game. Please do away with that embarrassingly pathetic chain saw crap..
“Luton sliding to the ground several yards in front of any potential tackler”
Last time he got closer to slide, someone broke his fucking neck.
Details….details
Omar Hicks onu is the Keith Pankey of safety’s.
The fucking absolute worst. All highlights include him and not in a good way
And, Luton tries to rifle in every single ball. His mechanics look poor as he seems to try to use his upper body to rip every throw.
Gebbia seems to throw a nicer ball with more touch. Luton doesn’t have a deep ball as the media claims him to have.
Defense – no comment. Tibesar should omit his time here from his resume for his next job.
Gebbia looks good. He looks so much smoother than Luton. We wouldn’t have won this game with Gebbia but it would be closer. Who knows, if the offense didn’t have the 3 and outs, maybe the defense doesn’t get as tired.
You’re joking right? Anyone focused on QB play is blind to the game itself. We have 2 QB’s we can win with and 1 defense we can’t.
Ya that first off target throw into double coverage was great.
Offense could’ve been better but to bitch at anything aside from defense is just dumb.
Nice drive by Gebbia
How the fuck do we score 36 and get our ass kicked?
Shitcan Yoda ET Tibesar immediately
Bring in Richard Siegler and DeLawrence Grant to show how some real hardcore motherfuckers get it done
TT go home
We didn’t give up 77 like we did last year to osu
Sucky d. Dumb two point tries. Stadium was fun first quarter or so.
Smith walks out to shake Gundgy’s hand and asks if he wanted to trade defensive coordinators. Gundgy says hell no son I don’t want to be the losing OSU.
That 2 pt conversion would have been the difference for the bettors, damn
Seems as though the Beavers have never been able to successfully defend against a scrambling quarterback, ever.
Can the Hawaii QB run?
It doesn’t matter, this defense makes them all great runners.
Also, I know this is piling on, but I thought Jefferson had improved his blocking. I counted three blitzes where he was clueless on his assignment.
AP much better picking up blitzers..
Do you think Crazy Legs Colletto would put up 150 yards rushing against the Beavs?
That’s a tough one. Probably.
Oklahoma State 352 rushing yards.
As soon as I heard their QB can run I upped the spread to +20.
Funny, he didnt hurt us as bad as he could have. In reality he had no reason to run. Just handed off and watch the show.
Didn’t he have over 100 yards rushing?
College head coaches have fired D-coordinators during the season. If this shitfest continues, I wonder if JS has the balls?
Coaches don’t make errors.
Reporters like Tisbar, too, and they don’t make errors since they’re there watching.
It’s interesting, but I’ve come to the conclusion that the local media don’t know much more than we do. They feed us this line about the improved defense for several months. So if the players are more talented, what’s the issue?
The difference is, last year’s defense would have given up 750 yards to that Oklahoma State team.
Who takes his place?
Who cares?
Who has a heartbeat?
Now we are going to need help to make the CFB playoff.
Luckily our loss was early and a good loss. We should be fine.
Maybe they can expand the field to 128
Maybe they can expand the field to 128 yards when the Beavs are on D, too.
That would just mean bigger yardage records for opposing teams!
#FireTibs, #flailbacker, #omarhicksonuis#1
Let’s trend it on twitter
I was thinking about going to the Hawaii-OSU game.
In addition to getting shallacked on the football field, I would probably get my ass beat too.
Luck o da beavs
I see an offense that has some very talented players and a defense that is clueless and gives up. Smith is going to have to step up and do something to fix it soon as this can’t be a healthy dynamic long term.
They were giving up by the 3rd qtr, even my wife noticed it.
‘@IsaiahHodgins on the need to keep a positive attitude in @BeaverFootball locker room:
“We have to make sure we don’t have the same issues we had last year — snowballing downhill, and guys hanging their heads after one loss. We can’t dwell on one game.”
https://twitter.com/kerryeggers/status/1167753385602248704?s=19
Oops was supposed to also say ‘the team noticed, even my wife noticed’
Enough about Luton. Might want to talk about 3rd and conversion. I can’t, as I’m more geeked out than Lewis Black discussing politics.
Oregon St’s football problem is twofold. When you hire a young unproven head coach on the cheap said head coach needs to have the funds to surround himself with proven assistants to help with the learning curve. Head coach won’t be successful with assistants that have minimal to no experience at their positions.
Tibesar was never a DC before Smith hired him. This was/is a failed experiment that should’ve been foreseen.
But it’s the Oregon St way.
With the exception of baseball we have a culture problem that accepts trying and mediocrity. As long as you tried and did your best that’s acceptable. Which is a poor way to prepare anyone in college for the real world. Personally, I blame Ed Ray and his hands off approach. I also fear for the baseball program keeping the momentum. I was ok with the Canham hire but we’ve already seen firsthand how “keeping it in the family” has worked out.
Good rant, but Tibesar was a DC at Purdue, Kansas State, North Dakota, and in the CFL.
Didn’t Wiscy pass up on promoting him to DC twice?
YOU give up!!!! LOL!!! Buh- byeeeee
I think I saw that game six or seven times last year. 2018 Act II.
Just wait til the finale
I occasionally saw the d line get a push but obviously they were either out of position or getting man handled for large parts of the game. Does anyone know where you can see personal D stats? Like to see who might have been somewhat active up front.
After giving it some thought I think there are some hopeful signs:
1. OkSt o-line had 4 multi-year starters and they played like it. So that may give a bit more balance to explain why the d-line got pushed so much.
2. Even though this was another in a long line of all-world debuts for a freshman starter, he may be the most elusive QB Beavs will face until Arizona.
3. Luton looked fine until he disappeared during 3 key drives that put the game out of reach.
4. No turnovers
5. 1 sack given up by the offense is an improvement
6. Not many self-inflicted losses due to poor snaps, not as many penalties like false starts, holding as prior years
7. Defense may need more than one game against an elite offense to get some trust and confidence
8. Hodgins is a beast
9. Gebbia has legit skills is established
10. Peirce is going to be a big contributor this season
11. A lot of GAs guys are being passed on the depth chart, he wasn’t a great recruiter, Togai should probably be pushed by Musgrave right now as the pass catching TE
12. OK St has elite skill players and maybe it was a challenge to settle all of the new faces into the defense against that offense.
Pessimistically though, it could be a repeat of the same script we’ve seen for about 6 years. No talent D and some coach speak to keep us interested. The offense looks to be improved, but won’t be able to tackle for the D…
Several good points there, ohio.
1, 7, 12) all are reasons Tibs job is secure……for now. I’m a fan of BIG JIM and believe him when he says the Beavs will face very few, if any, offenses like this for the balance of the season.
6) decent and can be improved upon, false starts were often triggered by the Center’s snap; one reason I’ve felt continuity between C and QB is important and a reason to name each early in camp. Seems both C’s played off and on last night, thats got to change. (but the snaps DID seem reliable last night, just not perfectly timed).
3)Luton……….why can’t an experienced 6’7″ guy avoid batted down passes? I think angry has it right in saying gunslingers usually think they can throw through anyone.
Anybody else glad to see CHAMP on the field? Kid is gonna be fun to follow.
I agree that we might have to wait til the Stanford game to completely condemn tibesar. That was a top ten offense they faced on the first game of the year. Hawaii is also a powerful offense and then cal poly so I think we’ll know for sure by how they play Stanford. His seat should definitely be hot.
The batted balls is partly on the o line letting the d get there hands up and getting free runs on the qb. Gebbia had one also on his short drive. It’s almost like they knew he was going to 3 step drop and didn’t rush and waited to bat the ball down.
Needed Jalen Moore last night, missing Bradford hurt as well. How many times is our 6’7″ qb going to get swatted at the line this year? 3-4 D is still a bad scheme as we give up 50+pts and 500 yards again.
Yeah I’ve never been a fan of the 3-4. So many huge gaps and LBs making tackles 15 yards downfield. Even the great NFL D’s like the Ravens who ran a 3-4 had LBs making tackles way too far downfield. It’s just a crappy D. What makes it worse for us is we don’t have the personnel for it.
I thought a couple of the batted balls were on the O-line for not keeping the opponents hands down, but I’m not sure Luton is adept enough to understand slot angles either.
One was a whiffed cut block by Brandel
I was reading some on a Okie st football blog.
“…we give up a big pass play, and hardly ever get to the QB..”
“Defense is a letdown. No improvement in my eyes…”
“Defense just can’t get off the field”
“We have to keep scoring…this D won’t hold”
“The defense is just…not good”
“Offense is bailing us out. This D is a dumpster fire.”
“Our safeties…can’t cover air”
OSU sounds strangely like…OSU!!!
This^^^^^^^^^
The Beav offense isn’t bad, about one solid drive from being equal to Oklahoma State’s — the defense is just THAT bad.
If Ok State wouldnt have traveled well, there would have only been about 30% of the seats filled last night. Instead is was around 40%(maybe?)
When you have a potential program changing home game to start the season. as an AD, you need to fill those seats. I dont care how you do it. Give tickets away. Just get buts in the seats. Crowd was so weak. And so many of our fans are accustomed to losing, they dont even get engaged with the game. OK State fans were probably confused if they were in the right town in the hours before game day. Corvallis was DEAD yesterday.
Yes, it was a late weekday start before Labor Day weekend. But it’s easy to predict nobody will show up given the circumstances when you’re charging regular price. Make the tickets cheaper. Get a crowd in there. It’s just sad how empty that place was.
And it was a PERFECT night for watching a football game. T-shirt weather, no clouds to be seen.
Oh, and learn to stop a team on 3rd down once in awhile.
Get the homeless people to fill the stands
That’s the sort of creative thinking that’s been lacking at OSU for years. Maybe special game day uniforms made of blue visqueen and a “ turn over” shopping cart.
Sad.
As is making jokes about homeless people/the crushing of the American middle class.
I was embarassed for the university when the cameras were scanning the seats. I think they were trying to give away free tickets. They did something with youth football programs in the Portland Metro area where it looked like all kids got in free, but the parents/coaches had to pay. But again, it’s Labor Day weekend, it’s a hard sell.
That’s a pretty doomed idea from the get go, when the game kicks off at 7:40.
Make it attractive for people who live closer. I was fortunate enough to get free babysitting yesterday, so I was able stay out later than i normally would. We didnt get back to Portland till just around 2 AM. Kids tickets arent going to help much.
Nobody wants to keep their kids out that late, especially the last week of Summer when you’re needing your kids to ratchet back their bed time for early mornings school mornings.
Check this view out, from 9:00 left in the 4th.

Sparse is the first word that comes to mind!
I’m not sure why so many Beaver fans are waving the white flag on the season on social media.
Ok State beat No. 6 Texas and lost by 1 point to Oklahoma last year with essentially the same offense (they put up 47 points). I thought that the Pokes would put up 60 and have 700 yards of offense with our safeties out last night, and I wouldn’t have lost any sleep.
I still think that the Beavs can get to three wins (Poly, Zona, UCLA). Four if they beat Hawaii. They can move the ball and they don’t turn it over; they do need to utilize their tight ends more to avoid three and outs. The front seven can get the defense to third down, and with Jalen Moore back they’ll have more leadership in the secondary.
I think it is a couple of things. We are in the 5th year of a rebuild. Getting crushed in the first game of the year for the third? year in a row.
We will know more after two more games.
Andersen left our defense in shambles which I find odd given he is a defensive coach.
“…fans are waving the white flag on the season on social media.”
I think social media fans are more social than fans. Too soon to wave white flags for the Beavs.
Now, if you are a fan of the pretty boys in eugene, an injury or poor performance by their QB today WOULD be cause for white flag waving!
Beavs have a mental problem where they think hanging around in a game for a few quarters is good enough. They’ve had this forever. It’s something institutional and systemic. I could see the defenders lacking desire and instead looking around for someone else to make a play. It’s very disturbing because it’s ingrained and therefore harder to fix than talent problems.
Thanks again, Dennis Ericksen, you bastard! The fire died out when he left.
In the last thread it was lamented that there were no good Beaver articles So here’s one – although it’s from Goe at the O. LOTS of football in the links:
https://www.oregonlive.com/sports/2019/08/oregon-states-defensive-futility-and-the-oregon-ducks-national-opportunity-issues-answers.html
Was Whittley playing after the first quarter? Dude recorded 0.5 tackle.
Got a link to those stats? That’s pretty much piss poor for Whitley considering the hype.
He had to sit due to jaw cramps from running his yap the past couple weeks.

D line doesnt make many tackles in the 3-4. Still a 1/2 tackle isn’t good.
He looked gassed at the end of okies first drive. When I looked for him in the 4th he wasn’t in.
Little different than junior college football.
Some are asking about how Luton’s passes kept getting knocked down.
Okie state starting ends:
Tonight’s matchup will be interesting. Okie states starting defensive line is as follows:
DE: 6-4 242# RSo
6-5 245# RSr
6-3 227# Fr
DE: 6-4 265# RFr
6-4 280# RJr
6-0 300# Fr
Luton also has a low point of release that contributes…
The lack of fire on D is another reason to start Gebbia if you think about it. Luton = zero moxie and zero fire. Gebbia is fiery. He might demand more from the D and get on them. If the next few games play out the same gotta make the switch and hope an intense leader at QB lights a fire under the D. Goal should be to break Gebbia in with some time each of the next two games then take over for Pac play and light a fire under the guys.
Something I noticed with Gebbia, though, is he was only taking 3 step drops. He’s going to get sacked/fumble a lot doing that given our line is so-so. Wonder what’s up with that. I bet the media doesn’t ask.
Gebbia’s drop and release reminded me of a slightly taller Jonathan Smith. Smith had a quick release, but did get a number of batted balls.
This year’s team looks to be like that 2016(?) quack team with Brady Hoke but with a slightly worse offense. Let’s hope Okie State really is THAT GOOD and things aren’t as bad as they seem (not holding my breath)
Gebbia looked solid but let’s remember it was against okie’s 2’s and 3’s.
So the elevator on the west side of Reser for the press box quit last night? And Ok State booth coaches were actually caught in it and missed the beginning of the 2nd half? Yet they still went on to easily score on their first drive? And now we’re asking people to donate $100 each to cover elevator repair costs? And Scott Barnes earns more than 10 other Pac12 athletic directors?

Both schools coaches were caught in it from what the commentators said on fox last night.
Just their coaches but they stopped play to wait for them.
Two things about the O:
-didn’t it seem like too many rushes went to the right side than to the more experienced left? Anybody got stats on that?
-was the play calling a little too pass heavy?
Those three and outs in the 2nd qtr obviously marred a relatively decent performance by the O.
A couple of the longer runs did go right side with the RB making cuts back to the middle. They also stuffed a few off that side too. I dont remember a run to the left getting stuffed. We gained yards pretty much every time on that side. Seemed to be 60/40 pass but it was probably more.
49 passes and 37 runs according to the box score. So 55/45 pass
Thanks, I too, thought it seemed more than 60/40. A few called pass plays ended up as runs, but not many, usually became throw aways instead.
OFF TOPIC: Eggers recaps Luke’s season in Mexico, says he, “is expected to play this winter for the Caneros de Los Mochis in the Mexican Pacific League. “

I watched Luton closely last night and he is below average at best. That Oklahoma St. defense was not good. There were so many plays that could have been made with a good QB. Luton has passes knocked down because he telegraphs and locks on to 1 receiver. He had open receivers but would not look at his 2nd or 3rd option.
Defensively I think it is scheme as much as personel. I also do not understand why we keep running our 300 lb. lineman on and off the field every other play to give them rest. The running 30 yds.wears them out more than if they stayed on the field and caught their breath. Over and over last night our defense wasn’t even set when Okie st. started the play.
Watching BSU vs FSU. Amazing how similar the first half of this game was to the Beav game. FSU all over BSU led 31-13, lots of big plays given up by the BSU defense. Yet in the second half BSU kept grinding making stops and now lead FSU 36-31 late in the 4th quarter. BSU defense given up 450 yards already, but most of that in the first quarter of the game.
And they win. Slick Willie’s ass getting hot.
Comment from a nole blog:

I meant 3-4 D, but since we played like boobs on d I’ll go with it.”
Two a-holes have bit it this weekend….Capt. Big Boy Pants and Slick Willie. I don’t know if I would call Cristobal an a-hole, but it would be nice to see him fail too.
Cristobal is an a-hole.
About 1500 fans at the Stanford/ Northwestern game.
New thread up with some thoughts on the D.
