Bdyan Harsin confirmed has been hired by Auburn. If Oregon State got Harsin program probably would be in a similar spot, likely a bit ahead, with a few more wins overall. Reason IMo would be more traditional game strategy. Can be aggressive here and there in key moments but probability is probability and Beavs scoring more than 1 in 3 two point conversions just isn’t likely. Situation matters in these calls and their key is crisp execution and beating the odds in are moments, as beyond that unless you are the far superior team, they simply aren’t going to hit often enough. Then you make it that much harder and put your team behind the 8 ball. This is what we see 75-80% of the time with OSU.

Harsin has enough quality to his coaching I imagine he may have made a bowl at OSU last year and have either a 3-4 or 4-3 record this year had he been the coach. Smith is right there too. Diffetence in a few extra games won overall over a few years is strictly due to a better and more mathematically applied understanding of probability with the talent and players you have. Beenibg strategically aggressive at some key moments but not going past it into reckless territory.

    • I have zero insight on this, but I am going to guess there is a high probability he ends up on the Beavers roster… You would think all the time invested last season would pay off now, and he got D1 experience without losing a year of eligibility, so could be a bonus?

Totally a guess though, we will see

    • Ha, cause it wasn’t a preminition. I was told he would be entering the portal. Still doesn’t mean the Beavs will land him, but I know they are interested in getting him again.

  2. Nahshon Wright to me is like a left handed pitcher that can throw 95. Teams will take a chance on the upside, actual skill is somewhat irrelevant. His arms look long too, what is his wingspan like 6’6”?

  3. Brennan won’t be headed to AZ.
Arizona hires Jedd Fisch, longtime friend of the schools president, wonder if F.King has any similar connections?
Really doesn’t matter though, Jonathan Smith is secure for at least two more season due to his background with the Beavs.

Maybe that background isn’t the primary reason he is secure. Maybe Alexander and others see a trend that justifies stickin’ with niner.
Compare the trend in terms of W’s and point margin in L’s. Brennan at SJSU and Smith at OSU:
    2017 SJSU 2W (29pts down in losses)
    2018 SJSU 1W (18pts down in losses), OSU 2W (27pts)
    2019 SJSU 5W (9 pts down in losses) , OSU 5W (13pts)
    2020 SJSU 7W (no losses), OSU 2W (8pts)

Limited sample, I know, but interestingly similar three year trends: from losing by high 20’s, to teens, to single digits.

I think his recruiting is really good. There’s not a ton of reason for players to choose oregon state if we take off the tinted glasses. He has brought in more consistent talent than anyone except maybe Erickson and his transfers.

The guys he brings in play meaningful minutes and I feel like he has really started to reload the roster with the exception of DT.

    • It seems to hold true in most cases that a decreasing point differential is an indicator of improvement, but it can change quickly in college football based on recruiting, injuries, graduations, etc. I thought Anderpants has turned the corner in 2016 with closer games and 4 wins, but we all know how 2017 turned out. Programs like Oregon St have little margin for error unless the recruiting trajectory is changed upward consistently year over year.

        • Ok, since it’s improving. I think next season will be telling. I also like to look at non-competitive games. For argument’s sake, I would say ASU was non-competitive this year and there were maybe three non-competitive games last year (OSU, Utah, and WA). Next step is more wins of course.

  4. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, etc…. everyone!

What are you all doing this year? Hopefully keeping it small?! Just My wife, son and I. Have a prime rib going in the oven around noon Christmas Day, after it gets to room temp (for 6 hours). Anyone ever check out the “Food Wishes” youtube channel? That guy has a full proof method for Prime Rib! Awesome! I also love Chef Ramsay’s Christmas Turkey video (I use it every year for Thanksgiving).

Anywho, be safe! Enjoy your families.

    Go Beavs!

    • Im Hoping 2021 doesn’t try to out shitshow 2020.
Side note I picked up a 14 pound rib roast. Im going to smoke then sous vide then sear. Love me some prime rib.

        • My long time friend, who’s more like a brother (and was my co-best man in my wedding) swears by them! Sorry, gave the background to show how much I respect his opinion but my wife and I had just bought an Instant Pot so we still haven’t tried one. They sound good though! The other thing I want to try (when I win the lottery) is an “Egg”. The egg shaped grill, that you can apparently cook an entire chicken in like an hour? Ha! Sounds amazing.

With the Sous Vide, does everything finish without a crispy exterior? Do you then finish them on a grill (if you want cripsy)? I guess that’s my reservation that I still have not figured out.

          Go Beavs!

          • Typically, from a restaurant standpoint, every protein that comes out of the bag is then flashed on a direct heat source (grill, pan, ECT) to achieve a crispy exterior. You just slightly undercook to the desired internal temp (medium rare, well done) and high heat the outside before it can denature the protein internally.

        • Immersion circulators, AKA sous vide, are amazing pieces of equipment. As a chef, I wonder when the rest of our fancy kitchen tools will become more prevalent to the home cook.

        • Yes. Works really well. While not strictly necessary, a vacuum sealer is a nice addition to this. I will occasionally use a ziploc bag but I don’t trust the seal nearly as much and I use a chip-clip to keep the seal above the water level.

Agreed! Hopefully 2020 is one of those (can’t get any worse) years and things only project up from here?!

Damn, 14 pounder!! You’ll have prime rib for days. Not a bad thing ;).

        Go Beavs!

        • I dont go small when it comes to to beef. Usually. Yes searing is a must. Just a heads up, as a person who eats steak regularly Sous vida will finish with an even color though out the meat instead of the normal gradual color change from done to medium rare in the center. Its kind of wierd. But the most tender you’ll have. Grocery store steaks come out similar to 60 day dry aged steaks done on a grill (tenderness wise). It crazy.
I also turn my gas grill up as hot as it will go (basically smoking hot) and sear with that to get the nice crust. It takes literally seconds to get it.

    • I had a prime rib at thanksgiving, didn’t let it get to room temp, took longer to cook, cooked unevenly…lesson learned.

Christmas eve, I’m doing marguarita happy hour, mole enchiladas (likely with pork), potato tacos, toasted tortilla chips…for dinner, making homemade spicy chocolate ice cream with cinnamon and cayenne pepper to give it a spicy kick. Already made the mole sauce, ice cream tonight…

Keeping it small, no big gathering this year.

    • Scored a 12# bone in prime rib, running my standard “open the oven and I’ll kill you” method, 5 minutes per pound on 500° then turn the oven off and leave the door closed til it hits 140°, usually about 2 hours.

Also just got back from Charleston with a bucket of fresh Dungeness crab, gonna work them in also.

      • This is basically the method that I use as well from Chef John, “Food Wishes” (youtube channel). Turns out great each time. I don’t even take temp of the meat.

        Go Beavs!

  5. Yo NB have the staff started following any of the new DTs on the transfer portal?
Netori Johns, Coynis Miller, Judge Culpepper, Matthew Pola-Mao, Nelson Jenkins, Mohamed Diallo or Zaccheus Mckinney. All 3 or 4 stars and over 300 lbs!

    • I’d have to look later. Work and holidays have me swamped right now.
I did notice a couple of our current players started following Bankston today. R.Wright and BJ Baylor

    • Not NiceBeaver, but looking at some of the recent DT transfers on Twitter:
      Netori Johnson: Coach Blue
Coynis Miller: Coach Blue, Darrick Yray
      Culpepper: None
      M Pola-Mao: None
      N Jenkins: None
      Mohamed Diallo: None
      Zaccheus Mckinney: None
      Antonio Shelton: None
      Devon Robinson: None
      Quay Mays: None
Then, the clear target, Latrell Bankston: Coach Tibesar, Coach Legi, Coach Blue, Coach Cookus, Michael Doctor, Darrick Yray

      • Thanks for looking all of that up misterblack.
Did anybody else notice Bankston has deleted all of his offer tweets from yesterday?
        Wonder what’s up with that

        • Of course it is Twitter, so not sure how much it means. I should note, Judge Culpepper hasn’t posted anything since the summer of 2019, so he may not be actively using the account.

I am kinda suprised about Matthew Pola-Mao, as they offered him out of high school in 2019, and Zack Mckinney, since he is from Texas and has two years remaining. But maybe they feel pretty good about Bankston.

  6. Saw a story that the one of the refs from last nights OSU/PSU game tested positive for Covid today, so they cancelled the oregon/UCLA game because it was supposed to have the same crew.

So….does this mean the entire OSU MBB team needs to go on quarantine?

    • Do they wear masks? I think they do. Also the metric is 15 mintues of close contact of 6 or less feet. That would initiate a 10 day quarantine. There’s an argument there that they aren’t that close.

    • If he has I think he’ll find it, but when?
One of his main strengths has always been “we are family”, maybe COVID has interfered? With more than a third of the squad new to the program it’s got to be a challenge to get ’em all on the same page.
From what little I’ve seen, seems like Taylor Jones hasn’t been up to her first year standard.
I’d not bet against Rueck having this team ranked by the end of the season but probably not a Final Four year for sure.
      GO BEAVS!

Rueck’s deficiency IMO is his inability to bring in athletic BIPOCs into the program. He’ll bring in an occasional player like Sasha Goforth, although she is not BIPOC, who is fairly athletic and he’s got one coming in next year in Talia Van Oelhoffen (similar type of player to Pao Pao at Oregon), but those seem to be the exception and not the rule. Meanwhile, UCLA and other top-15-20 programs recruit very athletic and skilled players. In addition, most of the bigs that Rueck brings in are more project-type of players that take time to develop. Again, a few exceptions but again not the rule. The biggest problem this year is the loss of two very key players: 1) Destiny who is average 16+ ppg at Arky and, 2) Kennedy Brown who is injured. That’s a lot of offensive and defensive production missing this year. I have no doubt that Rueck will get this team playing better later this season, but I think they’re at best a 12-10 type team. The other issue as I see it is…..lack of a quality PG who can take care of the ball and distribute (Destiny had her moments both good and bad but she had another gear to her game that nobody on this current roster has). At best, Aleah is a backup PG coming off the bench and she seems to have lost some consistent with her perimeter shot….another area of concern is this team doesn’t shoot very well from the perimeter. All said, Rueck will coach them up, but I think too many issues to overcome this season. I hope I’m wrong but this team really fairly young and doesn’t have quite enough talent compared to Stanford, UCLA, AZ, ASU, Oregon and apparently Utah and WSU. We shall see….

        1

Rueck’s teams are predominantly players that are not very athletic. There are a few exceptions, Aquino, Slocum, are Goforth exceptions that come to mind, but for the most part, he doesn’t get extremely athletic players (white or non-white players). His teams also lack the speed and quickness traits that you’ll see in many other programs like UCLA, South Carolina, Baylor, ASU, Stanford, etc., although Slocum was a rare exception to that rule for OSU and we all know how that worked out. Reality is that he recruits a certain type of player as do all coaches and, in Rueck’s case, that player type does not very often include athletically gifted players (white or non-white players). The women’s game has changed over the past 5-6 years to be more up-tempo and extremely gifted athletes. If Rueck doesn’t adapt some of his recruiting strategies, the separation between the gifted and athletic teams will continue to separate themselves from those teams that are not. BTW, it’s a well known fact that it’s somewhat of a challenge recruiting non-white players to a predominantly conservative community like Corvallis. That could be part of the reason why there aren’t a lot players on his roster that are non-white players. IMO, that’s his biggest liability…inability to sign athletic type players (white or non-white) that adapt to today’s style of play.

          • LOL kid….believe what you want to believe, think what you want to think. Your opinion of me is meaningless. Rueck recruits and signs the types of players that I’ve commented about and it’s a fact. If he wants to keep up with the top 20 college women’s basketball programs, he’s going to have to expand the type of player he recruits and signs. The 6’7-6’8″ project types that are not very athletic or PGs that aren’t quick and athletic won’t cut it in a conference that is filled with many athletic including BIPOC players. You think that’s a racist comment…no, it’s just plain and simple fact. In other words, I want the best players available on my team regardless of ethnicity, but I’m certainly going to focus on recruits that are very athletic and quick if I want my teams to stay competitive. Your insistence on making this a race issue is frankly disturbing. I’m advocating for more skill set diversity on Rueck’s roster but not because of the color of someone’s color, but because of their quickness and athletic skill set. As it turns out, many of those players that possess those attributes happen to be BIPOC players that Rueck doesn’t often get in his program….

          • Nice try racist. Go ask Scott if he could recruit more Bipoc’s and see what he says. At 5’4”, I have no doubt he would drop you like a sack of bricks. Lmao. You’re stupid backpedaling can’t help you now. You already exposed yourself.

          • “I am not advocating for players based on their color but on their skill set”. Yet you mention their race immediately in your post. I just now read it?? you have got to be the dumbest fucking racist pos I have ever seen. Bahahaha. You just can’t write this stuff. I have no doubt you were involved in the Minyon Moore USC racial slur incident too. Smh. What a proud osu fan and University. If it’s not porn in the library, assaulting veterans or Confederate flags hanging in dorm room windows…. it’s Swammi and his racist rants.

          • You are disturbed but given that you’re a Trump fan and you allege that I’m a “racist” is just laughable and hypocritical. Since you’re a Trump fan, I’m sure you support the Proud Boys, the Boogaloo Boys, or some other form of white nationalist group. Yup, those are some very tolerant groups aren’t they Sally? Keep grasping at straws Sally….regardless of whether or not you find a straw….it doesn’t matter because you still Suck just like your demagogue soon-to-be ex-President. You’re a Trump guy and I’m not. You might want to re-check your definition of a racist Sparky. When you do, I hope you’re looking in the mirror. I’m married to a minority kid. How does that work if someone is a racist? Yeah, you’ve clearly got me pegged….wrong that is. Racist…..OMG LOL.

          • Oh, I forgot to say thank you for sticking your proverbial foot in your mouth on the racist comment. You stepped right into it as you usually do and w/out much effort. Can’t wait until you offer another foot-in-mouth commentary. Like I commented to Angry recently when someone asked if it was time to shut you down again, “he’s the blog idiot” let’s keep him around bc he’s an easy target. Bullseye Sally, Bullseye.

          • Dude, you’re most of the problem.

If you weren’t here he never would have followed you over from your O Live love triangle.

If you’d stop posting the fucking Gettysburg address every time he posts one sentence this site would be 1000% better.

And for the record, black folks are black. Just fucking say it. Black. Your stupid white guilt acronyms are nauseating.

          • Your backpedaling is really pathetic. I don’t support any right wing groups and Trump doesn’t either. Denounced them multiple times. Stop watching CNN you sheep. Jesus Christ, now you married a “minority”. First it was Bipoc and now a “minority”. Are you going to call Asians “orientals” next? Lmfao you are fucking stupid and a racist.

  7. Not newsworthy but thought I’d mention, chatted briefly with someone pretty close to the Bankston recruitment amd asked if we had a shot at landing him.
“I like our chances” was the reply.
Again, doesn’t mean anything, but it does at least sound like we not out of it.

I had the Memphis/FAU game on in the background today, I forgot that “Slick Willie” was the FAU coach and Leavitt was the DC. Memphis QB, Brady White (who used to play for ASU) is working on his freakin’ doctorate degree! It was announced that he decided not to come back for his seventh year in college football. Sign of the times with transfer rules.

    • I think you’re confusing Brady White with someone else.

White is the guy who GA was recruiting, then mysteriously stopped recruiting, so he ended up at Memphis.

      • 2
        1

I’m pretty sure Brady White started his career at Arizona St and saw some game action (I just checked Sports Reference to verify). He then transferred to Memphis. I did not remember that GA had recruited him. I was actually more intrigued that he could have played in college for seven years and already had his master’s!

      • No, that was David Moore who is now with Central Michigan, got busted for PEDS and just declared for the NFL draft, even though he’s done nothing of note. Bad attitude. That was one good decision GA made.

    • You should see this Bahamas Bowl (if you’re not already watching) lol. The defenses have left the stadium (and it’s the first quarter)

      Go Beavs!

  9. Anyone have any insight on how recruiting needs will change? It looks like the 2023 class will need to be 30+ as we have 33 juniors (mostly RS) on the roster (does not include Nashon or Mason). I assume some will be leaving this off season or next to get playing time or enter the league (Jermar). 18 of the 33 are starters or contributes. This class is mostly transfers and the last of Anderson recruits.

  10. 4

If you think about it, we only lost a little more than double the games we won. Just like every season in the past decade, we are making huge progress. Next year is OURS!!! Go braves!!

  11. Fisch to Arizona
Greg Hansen of the Tucson paper seems disappointed the Cats didn’t hire Brennan. He pull no punches in describing Fisch as an outsider and, “not an “on-the-field coach” or player developer as much as he is a film-room guy, a game-planner.” and an, “assistant coach who can put together a wonderful PowerPoint ”
Sums it up by saying, “He’s a talker. He’s Eddie Haskell trying to impress Mrs. Cleaver.”
I think the rest of the PAC will be glad Fisch prevailed.

  12. Well I just sat down to have a bourbon and eggnog with a “best of surf rock” compilation on. Pretty odd juxtaposition, but somehow it’s working.

      • Shelton is listed at 327 on the PSU. Definitely a 0 or 1 technique guy. But he only has one year left of eligibility left.

Culpepper is listed at 291. So more of a 2 or 3 technique guy. Can’t really line him up directly over the center. But he has three more years left and was a four star out of HS.

  13. Merry Christmas dudes.

Boise was looking into leaving the mountain west apparently. That may be on hold with Harsin bolting to Auburn. The plan is solid, try and create a 6th power conference for a new years bowl pick. Wonder if that could force a larger playoff group?

  14. Merry Xmas Angrybeavs! It is much better to be talking about how our various teams suck rather than COVID and politics.
To those whose advised me about the cesspool of online dating, a hearty thanks. And wow! You were right.
    Go Beav’s

  15. Is it a good thing or a bad sign that there are so many family connections on the football roster? I do feel like this is at least better than Riley’s “son of a friend” scholarships going to guys that never saw the field.

    Hodgins
    Reichner/Speights
    Wright brothers
    Arnold/Mascarenas
    Beason brothers

Part of me says it’s a good thing because these guys are telling family it’s a good place to be. On the other hand, think of how much less talent we would have without that effect…

    • 18

Wow, after he murdered the Beavs.

They’re reporting it was due to “jealousy” that he was getting the spotlight?? That is insane. RIP.

    • It looks like it’s confirmed, and this is saying it was an accidental shooting. Should be interesting to hear what happened.

(ABC4 News) – A University of Utah superstar football player, freshman Ty Jordan, has died, according to his family and sources close to the player.

The 2020 PAC 12 Offensive Freshman Player of the Year allegedly died Saturday morning in an ‘accidental shooting’ while in Texas. The details of that shooting, and if it was an accident, have not yet been released. Police in Texas said they would not be releasing any information until Monday.

Quick question. I have been thinking about life without The Tinkster. I was wondering whom the Beavers should be thinking about and Gonzaga’s assistant coach Brian Michaelson came to mind. He can recruit and you can’t go wrong with being with Mark Few. What are peoples thoughts in this?
