  1. The D won’t be able to stop Utah, especially when it matters. This game will come down to the play calling. If Chance isn’t playing well, the game plan will need to be adjusted accordingly. Lindgren can’t call another stinker.

Apropos of nothing, but fat defensive linemen should not wear numbers in the 30s. Schad’s out there looking like a middle aged dad dressed up as a linebacker for Halloween.

Tibs is bad against 1st drive and 3rd down. Hard to win when you start behind and can’t get off the field. That was too easy

Game over before it even started.

We’re so soft. Looks like these guys might have bailed on Smith because of that punt call last week. We were more physical earlier in the year.

  5. Yep, Great start by the decision not to take the ball on the 25. Fumbled snap on the punt. Yep, looks like the bye week really helped.

    I repeat:

Game over before it even started. We’re so soft. Looks like these guys might have bailed on Smith because of that punt call last week. We were more physical earlier in the year.

  7. Starting to look like Idaho, Hawaii and UW just aren’t good teams. USC not great either but a level above our other 3 wins. Beavs pretending this year.

Not really. We were pretty good then. It’s clear to me the players bailed. Saw the change immediately after that fake punt call. They became soft and it’s carried into this week. They bailed on him. Also, I have 12mg in me, so maybe I’m just being a dick…lol.

    • Yep, every time he touches the ball, he makes a positive play. Impressive speed to the edge. Hopefully, the defense will show up now.

    • If Gould is comfortable with the offense he should be in every play. Him and Harrison are the only wideouts in sold on. Bradford and Lindsay need to get open and catch more.

  8. Another third down coming up and it’s not short yardage either. If beavs can’t get off the field in these third downs, it’s going to gas them in the 4th qtr.

    • in a way, this was the turning point of the game. even when the Beavs were down 14-0 the crowd was still into it. I think it helped stiffen the D resolve.

  9. I was going to type “this is a stupid 4th down call by KW…” but it happened too fast.

Also, QB false started on that play. Refs didn’t call it.

I like this “comment of the night” idea…might roll with this.

    “There’s no chill at angrybeavs.com” – bendbeaver
“I trust Alec Baldwin with a prop gun after snorting an 8 ball more than our 3rd down defense.” – Whiskey Soaked Napkins
“LOL we get a third down stop, but it’s in fourth down territory.” Beav in OH

Let’s hold a vote after the game.

It’s enough of a sample size to say that Nolan is now a liability, but the only other option is to give the keys back to Noyer.

  12. So is it good that we’ve given up like 9/11 scoring drives on defense? 1 was the victory formation vs.WSU. lol. How anyone outside his family is still backing Tibs at this point beyond me.

  13. Said before that this is the most important game of the season, still feel that way; now we get the most important half of the season coming up.
It’s beginning to look like a win in the Civil War will be required for the Beavs to win the PAC North on a tie breaker over nike. One can dream.

  14. If it’s not the refs calling penalties against us, its us hurting our own chances. So wish we had a backup QB we could throw out there and be consistent and protect the ball.

  15. Didn’t we run the ball 20 something straight against the ducks a few years ago. Totally demoralized them, and we won. Maybe just do that in the second half, I dare ya coach!

  16. Well just caught up after putting the kids down. Rush game is sick. Every time we get a 3rd down stop we block a punt which is neat.

    Fucking fuck dumb fuck mistake.

  17. HOW DO TWO PLAYERS HAVE THE SAME NUMBER? LIKE EVER?

Pick a different number, oh my god. If we lose a game because of that I am going to lose my mind.

    • On the broadcast they had to lower the volume
On the crowd noise so you could hear the announcer. If there’s one thing our crowds know it’s how to boo with volume.

      • Well also the red was making announcements while the music was playing. Couldn’t hear the equipment explanation. Pac-12 needs to invest in some better mics. Kept cutting out.

  18. Oregon state with the lead and the ball in the fourth with no Lloyd for Utah. Take care of business and run the clock to put this away.

  19. 13
    2

What I’d like to know is how the refs see two guys with the same number, yet they don’t see all the blatantly obvious shit calls that continually ruin our seasons.

  20. Bring it home Beavs!

More disappointed in some of the dumb penalties (uniform numbers? seriously?), than for being overly aggresive.

Is Addison Gumbs absence about more than just the injury?

Man – Pac12’s tv production is not good.

People won’t say it in these parts, but Oregon has played its way out of the Playoff, whether they win out or not – the way they’ve played the last three games. Meanwhile, Ohio State has been rolling teams.

Is Nolan the kind of QB who really isn’t much of a passer, but really helps make the running game go?

  21. KW with a horrible 4th down call. Kick the FG, then go for the TD +2 later. These coaches are all degenerates who listen to a sheet of numbers over common sense.

  22. Well after the first quarter this was the last ending I expected. Good for them. Lots of takeaways from this game. ST with 2 block punts (even though one was called back). Two huge 4th and goal stands. Nolan kind of showed up in the end. The Running game is almost unstoppable.

Well, I don’t want to jinx us, but we’re undefeated at home so far this season. Two.more home games left. Stanford and ASU in November. Colder weather, I really like our chances. At CAL next Saturday who looks like a bottom feeder in the Pac-12 North. Then @COL and we should definitely win that game. I see us winning out and the CW is for the pac-12 championship. Oregon is beatable.

Posts of the night by Bleedorange21? I wasn’t sharing his optimism at the end of the first quarter. Living through the end of Riley and the Anderson years leaves little hope. Give Bleedorange21? the “Not a Bandwagon Fan” trophy. Well done, and great digging deep win.

So many chicken littles that think the sky is falling after every little thing.
Well can the picnickers. Settle down just a little? Its a long game.

  25. Exciting win.

Biggest positives were that the coaches made adjustments on offense and defense that were enough to get some key plays to change the game. Also, the offense was able to impose their physicality as the game went on.

Biggest red flag is the tackling and penalties.

  26. 22

Just got home from the game…

Great atmosphere, crowd was loud even if not a full stadium, pac 12 refs suck balls, my dudes balled out even when down 14, bros fed off the crowd,, band kicked ass, I’m hoarse, go fucking beavs!

  27. I think we need a new stat for Baylor. Yards after contact isn’t quite right. Yards carrying defender on back? Was just rewatching the highlight on his long run and he carries the dude at a full sprint from the 17 to the 1. Badass

  28. Huge win, go Beavs. A few thoughts:

    1) It looks like we changed a lot of what I was wanting to see, and it seemed to work. The WR rotation seemed a lot more narrow and mostly focused on Bradford and Harrison. Colletto played a lot more at LB, esp in pass situations.
    2) Nolan has to protect the ball better (how is he getting run down from behind by a D-lineman?? I think this is the 3rd time in 3 games that this is happened, and all have resulted in fumbles…?!) BUT take away that play and he played well tonight. We passed a lot on 3rd down and he executed over and over including some really nice throws. Efficient and solid. Probably should be running him more though- seems like that aspect of his game is underutilized.
    3) Fenwick was horrible today. Shows up in the stats (7 for 14) as well as the eyeball test. I’ve never been very impressed with him – he’s slow and despite his size can’t seem to run through arm tackles and seems to go down on first contact most of the time. Today he ran into his lineman at least twice, doing the Lowe thing. I feel like his good numbers this year have been kind of misleading and mostly him getting what was blocked. Lowe himself had a really great game and probably should have earned himself more PT (and maybe the #2 spot).
    4) Burying the lede a little but Baylor was awesome. He consistently broke tackles, bounced off guys, and one way or another ground out big time yards after contact. Super impressive- never would have imagined pre-season that he’d be able to step his game like this. Any other RB is a significant step down, though I like that we’re not overworking him.
    5) Hope we see more Elijah Jones. DB has been our biggest weakness on D (and maybe on the whole team) and adding an upgrade there would really help.
    6) Really hope Julian’s injury is less serious than it looked. By PFF he’s our best defensive player and I would agree with that. Might be the best player on the team. Best open field tackler, great in coverage- very solid. Beautiful, textbook tackle to save the TD on 4th and 2 today.
    7) Our punter has quietly been amazing this season. Great distances, great hang time – but also super clutch and many times already this season he’s improvised to salvage a disastrous situation (obviously including today). Ice water in his veins. Underrated but a major contributor.

    • “Nolan has to protect the ball better (how is he getting run down from behind by a D-lineman?? I think this is the 3rd time in 3 games that this is happened”

The fumble wasn’t caused by a D lineman. It was #28 Brandon McKinney who is a safety.

      • My bad, somehow I thought it was a huge dude live. Am I right that it was a D linemen causing the fumble from behind in WA and WaSt? That’s what I remember but I can’t find a way to fact check myself. And apparently my memory sucks lol

High praise from a good coach.

First of all, I think they have the best offense in the conference, and statistically that will bear out,” Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said. “They run the ball better than anybody, they score more points than anybody, convert third downs better than anybody. … Their offensive line is extremely efficient. … They’re well coached, and they have an identity, and they know exactly who they are and what they want to be.”

  30. I watched the game and then came here afterward and reviewed the comments.
It is funny to see how negative everyone is and then at about 5:24 p.m. the attitude changes.
    Beavs are 5 and 2.
Too bad we played WSU before the anti-vaxer coach was fired.

I don’t believe they could handle a full pac12 schedule. They escaped a WSU team that wasn’t playing like they did the 2 weeks before. Probably from the RoloVax saga. OSU could beat them, at least the team that showed up 10 minutes late could.

BYU has probably played eight opponents who are stronger than any conference schedule any other team in the country is playing. Virginia, the Pac-12 schools, Boise, and Baylor. I’d say they could handle the Pac-12 schedule and throw in the other three, because they have. Virginia, Boise and Baylor are all better than the bottom half of the Pac-12.

  31. Play of the game has to be Luke Musgrave.

Blocks a punt then has the awareness to pick it up and run it in for the score.

  32. That game was a two step forward kind of game like the USC game. The grit the team showed vs the crowd checking out after the first quarter was fantastic. It was difficult to get up for the team when Utah was starting what felt like a blowout. They got off the mat and punched back hard.

I hope this springs board them into the next three games. These are all 50/50 games where momentum can play a huge role. Play their game by running the ball with authority. Gets to a nice bowl game. Don’t think about pac12 title game or rose bowl. Win the next game and then the next.

    • Colorado is not a 50/50 game. The Buffs are horrible and have score 7 or fewer points in almost half of their games.

The next 2 games SHOULD be W’s.

    • Cal isn’t either. We should be significantly better than them-plus Smith has always had their number since he came on staff. Believe it or not we’ve beat them twice in a row now and we almost beat them in Smith’s first year (one of our few competitive games). Good matchup, good history, better team. TBH I don’t think it’ll be close.

I like that we get Stan and ASU at home. ASU will be tough, maybe tougher than Oregon- but every game looks winnable at this point.

I do agree that the team needs to stay focused one team at a time and not look ahead.

  33. So we’re about 200 rushing yards from having the best rushing season of the Smith Era. With a crazy 5.7 ypc we are on track for a school record for ypc.

Watching awesome rushing and a road grading offensive line is so fun.

BJ is now #27 all time in yards and has the highest ypc of any Oregon state RB over 1000 yards career at 6.1. James Rodgers is #1 with an absolutely silly 8.1. He’s tied with AP at 17 with 15 career TDs. We’re watching a historical performance.

  34. Another big performance. Avery Roberts with 16 tackles last night. He is averaging 10.8 per game and on pace for over 130 on the season. Dam Bruh

  35. Should expect the beavs to get a couple votes in both polls. Don’t think a ranking is warranted now but if they win the next two, they will be around 20-25

  36. it’s always fun to go to a game and then check in on the game thread here the next day. Kudos to BleedOrange for not hitting the panic button, but as someone cogently put it above, it’s a defense mechanism for OSU fans. Been there, done that myself, so I’m not being critical with the advantage of hindsight. Classic lines in this thread, including still being worried while in the victory formation.

It’s hard not to credit the blocked punt as the definitive turning point, but limiting Utah to a FG on their third possession was a quiet turning point. It preserved the potential of getting within hailing distance with an ensuing drive, which in fact happened. Curiously, the crowd in stadium never got despondent and at times the noise began to approach the good ole days, even with the place 1/3 empty. student turnout was impressive. from what I see elsewhere on TV, maybe the best student participation in the conference.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I’m still hoarse from booing.

    • Booing is our greatest tradition. I’d challenge any fan base in football to a boo off. Phili is probably the biggest threat to the title.

    • Bleedorange was the voice of reason last night during the first half. It’s okay to be critical, but I swear some of you on here are ready to throw in the towel on a game faster than Peter McNeeley’s corner.

      This team doesn’t quit.

  37. I didn’t watch every single down of this game, so maybe those who did watch all of game might comment.

I understand there were adjustments defense made in the 2nd half that helped; it seemed like in the 1st half however, that the defense wasn’t put out of place necessarily? A good portion of the 3rd down conversions Utah made looked to be because poor angles or bad/missed tackles, or on pass rush, they were just a bit late.

Only a handful of plays seemed to be because the defensive play call actually was wrong, and we got burned on it.

Second half, especially near end zone, Beavers were much better. Line was actually was disruptive and getting into the backfield when it mattered.
