  1. Tale of the tape! Well with Florida down to a 3rd string QB and missing I don’t how many others so stats don’t matter at all now.

Beavs offense is the most balanced offense in the country in yards. 2,405 yards passing. 2,390 yards rushing.

Question of the game is, will either QB be allowed to throw the ball? I’m thinking both QBs will be under 15 passes each and maybe one each over 10 yards in the air.

Get ready for lots of rushing and 5 min tv timeouts because the game will be moving quickly.

    • Plot twist. I wouldn’t be surprised if Gebbia was given more snaps to end his playing career and he gets the passing game going. Unless things are disastrous, I could also see them try to get BG more throwing opportunities just for confidence, work on some areas, etc. Obviously want to do what puts us in the best position to win but part of me could see this being a situation where the staff tries some things out that they may not have in the conference games with everything on the line.

      • I was thinking something similar. I would love to see Gebbia start the game and lead OSU on their first possession or maybe their first two. Reward him for sticking it out at OSU after everything

        • This could be very telling of his true progress towards recovery. If he doesn’t get much time at all in this bowl game I think that is an indicator he never truly recovered from it otherwise it seems like it would take a weird set of circumstances to not have Gebbia get some decent run time.

  2. Florida qb was number 2 going into season until injury, and has been practicing for a few weeks, and might be entering portal after game

I’d almost rather see him go. Would hate to see anything bad happen and him not get a shot in NFL. What else does he have to prove. His Beav legacy is solid. Musgrave… not so much

          3

Musgrave is projected to be drafted in Round 2-3.

          https://walterfootball.com/draft2023TE.php

You can hate all you want on Musgrave, but he also has to protect himself from any further injuries. Second and third rounders on average make between $4M to $6M over the course of their 4 year rookie contract. I would have liked to see him play as well, but you can’t really risk all that money if you get further injured and have your draft stock plummet.

As for Speights, he won’t get drafted. He is basically a UDFA in waiting. I think the world of Omar at the college level, but his lack of speed and coverage skills would be totally exposed at the next level. That is why he won’t probably even make a practice squad. Same problem that Avery Roberts is facing.

          • I have a hard time believing Musgrave is higher than 4th round pick. Projections are often super inaccurate especially for unproductive college TEs. Also have no issue with him protecting his own interests. Just confused with how he handled everything and ultimately I think that’s going to be a concern for some NFL teams. He could have come back and contributed starting with UW. Hard to say if he would have helped Beavs win that game but let’s say he did… Beavs could be in Rose Bowl and Musgrave could have had a productive season… stock could be 1st round, his legacy would be sky high, and he wouldn’t have the “quitting on his team” label. Kid thought too highly of himself and has let it go to his head. If your healthy enough to play with more than half the season remaining, then play

I had a bet with someone in a much earlier thread, I think from last year, that he’d be a top NFL pick. Dude said he wasn’t even going to the NFL. Where is that guy, my apology, and what do I win?

        • Maybe he thinks there’s a shot at a better bowl, and there very well could be. He could get some more college credits, have a great time, enjoy “completed” Reser experience and maybe a better bowl game.

While I think he’s very good for the team and a good contributor, I agree with below he probably doesn’t have the speed for the NFL.

          • Perhaps there’s a Beaver booster who would make staying an attractive option financially too?
Is Oladapo gone for sure? Has that been offciaily announced?
Man, the defense could be really good again next year if a few more guys stick around.

    • Mentioned this in last friend but from a buddy on the team as of now it’s sounding like Speights and Austin will both be back, much more confident about Austin. Could change once they get draft feedback

        • 1
          1

I’d rather see Austin back than Speights. Getting both would be great but I like the linebacker room and I think Austin, Thomas, Cooper Jr, Julian make a formidable secondary. Also, from an NFL stock position, I think Austin could use another year. He’s a good tackler and has made progress each year, however, he was definitely the “weak” link in the secondary imo. Lots of penalties and he seemed to be the one to get “burned” more often than the other guys. Not sure if he’s lacking speed at the corner spot or what, but seemed like a lot of the catches made against him he’s like 4 or 5 yards away. Might also be some of the reason for the PI and holding calls he accrued. Seems like a great person and teammate and should play at the next level but definitely could use another year to bump his stock imo.

Speights is awesome vs the run and having a 4 year starter back would be huge, but as was mentioned above, not sure what else he can prove or learn being in his 5th season. Coverage is definitely the weak spot and that might just be lack of speed to stay with the TE and RBs beyond 5 or 10 yards. Perhaps he could pick up on some technique still to help that but speed kills.

  3. USA Today on P5 programs in need if a QB:

    “4. Oregon State

Oregon State has made enormous progress under coach Jonathan Smith despite hit-or-miss quarterback play; this year’s team won nine games during the regular season despite finishing second to last in the Pac-12 with 15 passing touchdowns. With improvement under center a necessity heading into 2023, Smith could stick with rising sophomore Ben Gulbranson or look to add an experienced starter via the portal. Names to watch include Virginia’s Brennan Armstrong, Notre Dame’s Drew Pyne, Pittsburgh’s Kedon Slovis and Boise State’s Hank Bachmeier. ”

    https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/2022/12/14/notre-dame-ohio-state-alabama-quarterback-transfer-portal/10879648002/

    • Pyne would be great as a game manager. Doesn’t have amazing arm strength, but makes few mistakes, good on short and immediate routes and is mobile enough to be a threat to run. Had an Alabama offer out of HS, too.

    • Pass on Bachmeiert, pass on Slovis I think. Armstrong will stay east, Pune may be worth a flier and he was something like 17/17 against USC during that game so maybe he just had ND pressure all season and wants a change.
I’d still rather get Sanders or maybe the coastal Carolina guy.

    • I’d pass on Pyne. He struggled against Stanford and UNLV despite not getting pressured much.

To me, it looks like the more pressing issues are pass protection and receivers not catching/getting separation, which won’t be fixed even w/ a standout QB. Having both makes pedestrian QBs like Bo Nix look like Heisman contenders. Seems like the wiser decision would be for the coaching staff to spend resources on a high-impact transfer at receiver and/or guard.

    • With zero insider knowledge and limited film viewing, my preference would be:

      1) Devin Leary
      2) Grayson McCall
      3) Hudson Card
      4) Chandler Rogers

    • I think these are lazy speculative choices with no rationale. I just thought it was interesting to see OSU listed in the top 10, with specific reference to their 9 win season and the implied “imagine if they had a good QB” angle.

If OSU wins this Saturday, they should be in the 2023 preseason top 20-25 (the standard programs will continue to be over promoted as the false narratives are perpetuated).

W/top 25 ranking, a recently great home field advantage, a loud “competed” Reser, and a decent schedule, the Beavers will get better time slots and exposure, and, with a very good OLine and stable of RBs, should be attractive to a good QB.

Maybe not the Slovises and Daniels of the world, but I suspect those types wouldn’t fit well with the Beavers, and they can chase NIL money elsewhere. Not every QB is driven just by greed. I suspect several want to go where they can compete for a starting job, win, be part of a team, have a good college experience, and maybe get a little NIL cream on top of that.

        • He played last year when the starter got hurt. Typical deer in the headlights in the few snaps I saw. This year was all pressure to win due to the Top recruiting class NIL controversy with Saban and Jimbo. It looks like he is a grad transfer as a sophomore so he may have 2-3 years left but would be the type of guy looking for a fresh start. His numbers aren’t great but it may reflect on his teammates/system more than him. Huge Texas high school resume but not much productivity at College level. BG’s numbers look better frankly in about the same amount of starts this year.

    • UW now reportedly pursuing Oregon HS QB Leavitt who is currently committed to WSU.

Nike QB commit also reportedly weighing flipping to UCLA.

    • I’m sure UW will ramp up any interest they have in Chiles however, he has seemed very firm in his commitment. On twitter its been mentioned by his family how many offers and how much interest he’s received even after his commitment but they don’t promote those because he’s firm with The Beavs. Now, there’s always a chance until the ink is dry but doesn’t seem like there’s any issues with his commitment.

  4. Vegas bowl…….. my worthless two pesos says both teams will struggle to effectively pass. Turning the game into an ugly, defensive slug fest. Whoever runs the ball more effectively probably wins. Special teams could also factor in.

    I know, riveting take.

    I’ll go with 17-10 Beavs.

    • FLA D has allegedly been very poor. I don’t see them improving in this context (players transferring or leaving for draft).

I think OSU runs a bunch, throws about 20 or fewer passes, FLA will throw, find some success (Wright not playing, Austin hit/miss), but find OSU overall secondary more challenging than expected, and OSU wins by about 14.

    • Yeah… I was under the impression that the Gators were losing a bunch of starters for this game. That doesn’t appear to be the case.

Still think the Beavs get to 30+ but they’re going to have to defend a good run game.

  5. I think the goal for the staff regarding the portal would be:
1A- top level qb with 2 seasons left
1B-proven big frame WR with 1 year
2- experienced interior Dlineman with 2 seasons left
    3- experienced top level safety/cornerback
    4- plug and play oline
    5- punter
    6- fg kicker

Add these 6 players to the recruiting class and Beavs will be in great shape going into next year as top 20 team.

  6. From Machado

Just a quick update on Kelze Howard. He let me know that he is enrolling early at Oregon State and will be in Corvallis in January. The Beavs two top commits will be on campus in January.

…updated to add that I just confirmed with Montrel Hatten and he too will be in Corvallis in January.

Chiles, Howard, Hatten & Reddicks all here early so far.

  7. Made top 3 for another wr from texas, Hunter Summers. Decent height at 6’2″ a lot of offers from lower level schools and the final 3 are the Beavs, Wyoming and Tulane. No power 5 offers outside the Beavs that I’m aware of.

    • I read that Cal will get a big10 revenue share of 2 to 10 million per year. How can that be acceptable to the remaining members of the pac12? Cal should be given a choice to share or take a hike.

    • So if the Big 10 has 16 teams all splitting bowl money, while the Pac12 has 10 or 12, wouldnt it make more sense to be in the smaller conference?
Especially with a 12 team playoff where each conference will likely get multiple playoff teams in. Seems like this gamble for USC/UCLA has a good chance of backfiring now that playoff expansion is here.

      • Bowl payout money is small potatoes compared to tv revenue. That’s the driving force here. And it’s not going to get better.

        You were all warned.

      • Depends on how they structure their conference season and divisions. A bigger team conference is nearly guaranteed to get the at large bids because the chances of two teams meeting in the conf champ undefeated is higher and one loss teams not making the conf games is very possible. SEC and ACC need to go to 9 conference games to even things out.

I don’t think the small conference benefits. Look at the BIG12. It’s is a 10 team conference with 9 conference games, pretty much will only get one team in because only one team can go into the conf title game with no losses. If they went with 8, the chance of two undefeated is higher.

  8. A little transfer portal rumor mongering.

Kedon Slovis is apparantly going to be meeting with Smith at some point to check out what OSU has to offer.

    http://redirect.viglink.com/?key=71fe2139a887ad501313cd8cce3053c5&subId=6366834&u=https%3A//pittsburghsportsnow.com/2022/12/12/former-pitt-qb-kedon-slovis-details-transfer-portal-process-schools-with-mutual-interest/

Also, was told tonight that there’s a rumor Smith flew back to Corvallis to host Hudson Card on campus. I dont know how accurate that is since it’s 2nd hand info. I’m sure more will come out if it is true.

    • If it’s true he flew back to host Card at least he is trying.

I heard Dorian Thomas burned a bridge somehow with the Beavs and isn’t really a player the team wants anymore. Anyone else have details? I think we all figured he was gone but now it seems there’s no decision on December 21st, just all for show.

      1

“I’m more so going just to get a feel for offensive schemes and personnel; the campus and school are obviously not as big of a deal as a transfer.”

Slovis threw for 2,397 yards with 10 touchdowns and nine interceptions as Pitt’s starting quarterback in 2022, but he wasn’t able to find that seamless fit in the offense.

He’s thrown for 9,973 yards and 68 touchdowns, at a 65.9% clip, over four seasons at USC and Pitt.”

Well, he’s direct: “..the campus and school are not as important as a transfer.”

Wasn’t he another Heismann hyped USC QB early in his career? I dunno, maybe its unrealistic in today’s world of college football, but I’d pass on Slovis and try to find a better fit for the team. I think they need someone with a Matt Moore type of mindset; a transfer yes, but one who fits in with team and becomes a part of it.

      • 4
        1

What they need is a guy like Matt Moore with an NFL arm, SLovis has a noodle arm and is kind of slow to process what he sees. He benefitted from the USC wide reciever room. He is correct that a transfer isn’t as interested in the campus etc, but more focused on how he might fit into the offensive scheme. I saw him in action and don’t think he is a good fit since he would predictably throw the bad int, no different than Chance.

I like the news about JS hosting Card. He may surprise and come to OSU. It sure seems like there ought to be plenty of Texas high school legends qbs looking for a good landing spot to play. OSU has a shot to get a couple of them I’d hope.

Looking at the signing class, the staff has been focusing on CA, FLA, TEXAS with a sprinkle of Washington, Hawaii, Utah. I like the mix rather than all in one basket.

Agree about the JC route being another option which has kind of been over-taken by portal talk. Bring in a big time juco wr please, at least 6’3″ with speed and great hands like Hodgins.

      • Why is he not a fit? He’s only going to be here for a year, so it’s realistic to say “campus and school aren’t as important.” This isn’t about the college experience anymore, it’s pre-professional training. Looking at schemes and personnel should actually help us compared to much of the competition for transfer QB’s.

      • 2
        1

Card is used to big time Texas HS football and UT. My guess is he follows the NIL money somewhere and it won’t be to Corvallis.

        • Does he have a decent amount of starting experience? Blitz was initially saying beavs wanted someone with real starting and playing experience not necessarily a high star out of HS that hasn’t seen the field. 1or 2 years is what they want until Chiles is ready.

    • WSU also lost their O Coordinator and D Coordinator. Their commits are definitely wavering. With a bowl game this week, they are not in a great position to defend their recruits.

      • Poor WSU. Seeing some talk that alot of people around the program dont like Dickert and think he’s difficult to work with.
Fits with their OC/DC both leaving after 1 year on the job. WSU is quickly trending back to their pre-Mike Leach days

    • NCAA needs alternate terms to “commit” and “commitment.”

Since the transfer portal is becoming analogous to a singles bar, maybe they need some analogous terms as to whether a recruit is going home with anyone or not?

I’ll leave it to young people to identify and use current terminology… i could suggest cheesy terms, because who doesn’t like some cheese?

  9. The Card rumor seems pretty implausible. Don’t think Smith would leave during bowl prep. Doesn’t seem like the kind of coach that would put one prospective player above the team.

Slovis put it best, transfer guys are looking for personnel, scheme fit and opportunity. Campus visits don’t mean a whole lot.

However, if true that he flew back, Smith can’t strike out on this one. That’s spending a lot of time and money on one guy.

    • You could argue that the team would interpret Niner going back to campus as a positive.

“Coach working his ass off this week trying up upgrade the QB room.”

The players aren’t stupid, they know our biggest weakness right now is QB.

      • “The players aren’t stupid, they know our biggest weakness right now is QB.”

I wonder how much the USC loss impacted Nolan. He was reportedly challenging to console after. They lost 17-14 to a highly ranked team, the D played a beautiful, tremendous game, and he threw 4 picks…3 point loss!!!

Then later in the season, his injury status is unclear, he is reportedly distant, uninvolved, then gone…

    • 3
      1

He’s been on the road visiting class of 2023 recruits pretty frequently the past 2 weeks. Dont know how much time he has been around campus even, other than when he signed his new contract. The main downside of the early bowl game is this conflict with signing day.

I’d hate that lifestyle of always hopping on and off planes, but the paycheck would be nice. Private jet helps, I’m sure.

    • 2
      1

It’s not implausible and basically confirmed. Smith didn’t go though:

What if the OC flew back to Corvallis while the team was taking part in Fremont St. experience? No one would even know he’s gone and he could work on game prep on the plane. ;-)

Nicebeaver, I put out some feelers and this is what Machado said.

      • Lindgren would make more sense but it better work. Like a said, that’s a lot of effort for a guy rumored heavily to Oregon.

For the record, IMO Card is the best fit of all the transfer QBs out there. Several years left, great game experience, good stats, is a very mobile QB, good arm and accuracy.

        • Gotta think it’s in the best interest of these QBs to visit as many teams as possible. Can’t bargain with a team when they know you’re already focused on them.

          • Does Card no good to go to UO if Nix returns. It would be wise for him to review all viable options.

Plus if he is visiting UO, why not make the 40 mile drive to check out OSU?

      • 4
        1

You’re about to get shit canned by Blitz, haha. They really dont like when you take their 2nd hand info and talk about it in other places.
Of course if you bring info from another site into their forum, they’ll look the other way

  10. Oregon losing quite a few guys to the portal. Looks like Lanning is going to go the USC route and try to get rich quick by cleaning house and bringing in a bunch of guys from other teams. Not much continuity to build off in that program with their OC switching too.

    • 1
      1

Dawson Jaramillo (Lake Oswego grad) is the latest to leave, and he played pretty well at guard and tackle this season.

Seems like someone for the coaching staff should reach out to.

      • Was thinking the other day about NIL and the next 3-5 years. Boosters can’t keep paying 1 mil every year for recruits, can they? Will the Ohio States of the world go out and buy a QB every year? Going to make roster management a challenge for the top schools who may want to scale back and work to bring in players that may stay more than a year.

      • 3
        2

The Ducks are a microcosm of our narcissistic culture. Lanning has a difficult argument to make if he complains about the talent level not being good enough. All they’ve talked about for a decade is the recruiting prowess of Taggart and Cristobal.

I wonder how long the charade can last for them. If the hook is “come here and Be the
Man…” how many guys can that be true for and how many are just lost in the numbers?

        • 3
          1

To play Devil’s Advocate: it’s just a different method and culture around talent acquistion. Instead of telling guys “we’ll develop you” you tell them “you’re going to compete against the best and if you win you have the privilege of representing Nike. If you lose, you can keep trying or you’re free to go somewhere else.”

It’s almost a form of segmentation where, in a sense, you’re recruiting a different type of athlete than ones who want to develop over multiple years in the same place.

          • Fair point but I’d consider anything me centered within a team concept will self destruct of its own accord. You can’t build a true team out of a bunch of guys being told they are the man.

Segmentation is the antithesis of team.

If they are wanting to compete against the best of their era, they would be going to Georgia. If they want goodies and a lot of hype they go to Nike.
It is obvious they have been recruiting based off of Nike money and Nike hype, not true competitive elements within the team.

The spectrum goes from “we will develop you” vs “you are a superstar”

But Duck version has been on the extreme at one end. OSU has been caricatured to the other end, but JS is slide that window more towards the middle rather than the Riley Coach ‘‘em up trope.

OSU is better off with a team of guys pressing forward and maturing as teammates than the Ducks are at attempting to plug in the next would be superstar without continuity each year.

    • 2
      2

I was going to ask the same thing! That was news to me. I wonder if it plays into the 4th down mentality & decisions. Maybe personnel decisions too.

Also, for the record, I tend to be more OK with some of the 4th down aggression than many here. I tend to be MUCH more critical of some of the playcalls in that situation than of the decision to go or not.

  11. Big Cock Brock Purdy just pump faked left, then right, then pivoted again and threw down the middle for a TD.

SEA D sucks, but Purdy sure looks cool and composed.

Jimmy might be out of a job…

  12. 11
    2

Everyone being so confident about this bowl game has me a little concerned. Florida’s offense has been pretty good and if they can slow the run game down were kind of fucked. I hope Gulbranson doesn’t press trying to impress the coaches going into next year. It sucks playing a 6-6 team that won’t look like a good win on paper. They have played some very good sec teams close and don’t really have many bad losses.

With all that being said it can’t be understated how important this game is. To get to 10 wins would be huge going into next season and would carry a lot of momentum. Plus the chance to be ranked very highly to end the year and going into next year. I wonder if Chatfield and players originally from the state will have extra motivation for this game? Even Harrison who was on the former rival team.

    • 1
      3

I begin to have those same doubt as the game gets closer. I’m hopeful we don’t experience the same old Charlie Brown and Lucy routine as soon as a big opportunity presents itself.

This is definitely a loss if Riley were coaching but I need to expect differently from JS and Trent Bray. Lindgren may wreck the whole thing with his play calling but in Bray I trust. Beavs may not score much but I expect Florida to score less.

      Revising my score prediction:
      Previously had Beavs 38-10
      Revised to Beavs 20-10

      Go Beavs!

    • 7
      1

No one is going to care the beavs beat a 6&6 team, it will be remembered as beating an sec team.

But is they lose to a 6&6 team, it will be a whole lotta see even a midling sec team is better than the pac

      • Yes and No.
Seems like it’s close. Gain=10 win season, Lose=”same ole Beavs”.
What’s that line about the value of being the man in the arena?….Good to see the team get the opportunity.

  13. This reminds me of the Alamo bowl vs Texas. Coming off a solid season, Going up against a blue blood. A win keeps the momentum and puts some real eyes on the program. This is such a pivotal point for JS and OSU. They need to capitalize!

    • 11

Ah, the old “take your foot off the gas and get run over in the second half” game. Peak Mike Riley. I think that game saved Mack Browns job for another year.

        • Was that Okafor? Just kept beating the right tackle and mr refused to put a te or rb to chip or give any help. Sack, sack, sack, infinitum.

          • I thought at one time that was the biggest comeback in bowl game history. That is, until the ducks got beat in the holiday bowl a few years back. I could be completely wrong also.

  14. This has been one of the most dominant halves I have seen from OSU basketball. It’s pretty clear that Rochelin and Wright were key pieces on this team…

  15. 7
    1

I have a game thread scheduled go to up early, around this time, tomorrow morning. I lowered my prediction to 20-14 after thinking about this game more. Should be ugly ala the 2008 Sun Bowl vs Pitt the more I think about it. Not that bad, but probably pretty bad.

  16. POSTSEASON PHIL
    STEELE REPORT:

1st meeting. HC Napier has the Gators in a bowl in his first year. He was 2-1 SU (1-2 ATS) in bowls at Louisiana. This is the 5th consecutive year that Florida is in a bowl while Oregon State is making back-to-back bowl appearances under HC Smith who was rewarded with a 6 year, $30.6 million extension. Last year Oregon State lost to Utah State 24-13 (-7) in the LA Bowl. Florida has losses to 4 of the top 17 teams in the final CFP Poll but also suffered two losses as home favorites to Kentucky and Vanderbilt. QB Richardson is opting out along with their top OL, top LB and 2 of their top 4 WR’s. Ohio State transfer Jack Miller was highly recruited and Napier has a month to get him prepped. The Gators are +25 ypg and RB’s Montrell Johnson and Trevor Etienne both have over 700 yards. Oregon State is 9-3 and ended the season by beating rival Oregon in the Civil War. The Beavers trailed that game 31-10 before coming back to pull the upset. RB Damien Martinez ended the season with 6 straight 100 yard games. The Beavers have our #2 pass defense (58%, 11-12 ratio). These two do have one common foe, with Florida beating Utah in the opener while Oregon State lost to Utah 42-16 but did finish with a 417-361 yd edge and was -4 in TO’s. Napier is 16-3-1 ATS as a dog in his career. My average game grade says Oregon State wins by 4 and my L4W average game grade actually calls for Florida to win. Despite the opt-outs, I expect Napier to have his team ready and he still has plenty of talent.

Looks like a solid pickup. Big wingspan; can line up in the slot or on the line; has a variety of rush moves; seems to be able to play in coverage. The only knock I can see is that, at least on film, he doesn’t look that fast. That can be hard to gauge from highlights, especially watching film from a lower level.

Also, #1 JC DE. I like guys that are #1.

        • My Dad’s season tickets this year were just below the recruits area in Reser.
I saw that “young man” come up the stairs and was like “Who in the world is THAT?” He was huge and looked like an NBA forward. Then I saw the name on his lanyard and realized he wasn’t a high school kid. I hope his play lives up to his size!

  17. I think it’s a QB and there’s nothing said yet other than the bat signal as they are waiting after the bowl game. How bad would that be for BG day before bowl game annouced a QB transfer is committed to Beavs. You would think that would have some kind of negative impact on performance. Just my speculation.

I was thinking about NFL comps for our 2022 Beav QBs and I think I have some good ones:

Chance Nolan – Carson Wentz. Wildly inconsistent, you never know the dude you’re getting. Can win you a game on his own, can lose you a game on his own. Generally moves the ball well but very turnover prone. Question marks with leadership, work ethic, being a good teammate, etc.

Tristan Gebbia – Taylor Heinicke. The guy we needed this year. Poor physical tools but protects the football. Smart, savvy, and the ultimate game manager. Strong leadership and well respected in the locker room. Anyone know for sure what was the story with Gebbia – was his hamstring really the reason he couldn’t play, two years later, as a non-running QB? Football aside, I really hope the dude is able to make a full recovery at some point.

Ben Gulbranson – Zach Wilson. Looks the part, has all the physical tools, but doesn’t have “it”. Struggles to move the ball but also struggles to protect the football. Has sky-high potential but not nearly there. The guy you’re afraid coaches stick with for too long chasing potential that never materializes.

Its still very early, so not a ton of people at this Virgin hotel pep rally, but they’ll keep trickling in over the next 30 minutes.
If I had to guess, i’d say the ratio is 95/5 Beaver fans.
Fits with what I’ve been seeing around town. Just not many Florida fans making this trip.
And its not like the Beavs have a huge fan contingent in town, but it’s significantly more

    • Lanning says DJ was, “in a moment there that he certainly wishes he would’ve acted different,” Lanning said, via Oregon Live. “But something was said that was pretty extreme to him that some people might act in a similar fashion.”

I’ve not seen anything by DJ which would indicate remorse; just a tweet saying he’ll miss the bowl game while prepping for the NFL. Guess he hopes to join that other good citizen from Eugene; Verone McKinley III.

    • There was an Oregonian article online that was gone in a day about it. He is skipping the bowl game and entering the draft. Lanning said Johnson is regretful and it wasn’t in his character to do something like that. Also said the punchee said something awful to him that caused him to take the swing. They tip-toed around what caused it to make it sound like the guy said something racist without saying he said something racist. Basically he’s getting away with assault scott free and no one gives a shit.

Fans shouldnt be on the field while players are out there. And they most definitely shouldnt be able to get close enough to say something to a players face.
As much as he’s a dick for punching the fan, the fan was in the wrong first. Even if he ran by and said “Good game!”

        • Completely disagree. The players getting to celebrate a huge win with the fans that have supported them has got be one of their highlights in their life and an incredible high. That’s part of college football and what makes it great compared to the pros. I’ve been there when they’ve had huge upsets and rushed the field and it was awesome and I’ll always remebember it. I was there when everyone rushed the field early so we ended up standing on the sideline with the players for the final play. Each time was an amazing experience I even got a players gloves after one of the games when I was in middle school. So what about all of the young kids getting the chamce to meet their favorite players and get an autograph?

Disagree. Like saying the lady shouldn’t have worn a short skirt so the guy wouldn’t have been tempted to assault her. Victim blaming ain’t the look. Not to mention it appared he was one of the last Duck players on the field. No reason to linger around.
