    • Glad there will be a good crowd too!

If the Beavs can a nice chunk of change as a result of PAC 2 membership, and can bridge to realignment, they could hold on to talent, though the uncertainty will surely result in some defections.

Another 10 win season would be nice obviously…

C’mon Beavs, time for an epic, in-control beat down …

      • With a win today they should jump into the top 10 or number ten. Lots of big matchups today. Last I saw Utah was winning and Barnes is playing well.

    • 2-0 if you count the win over Linfield.

Took 2 OT’s to beat Troy at home by 1.

12 of the 16 players on the roster are underclassmen so the excuse is already built in.

They suck and won’t finish better than 11th in the pac-12 only because Cal is equally terrible.

  1. UA AD in trouble:

“Another suggested option was selling the athletic department to an outside vendor. Robbins said he favors the option of leasing some of the university’s land.”

    That is crazy….

  2. The Utah / Washington game has me conflicted. Do I want the Huskies to Coug it and help our stock / possible Game Day?

Or for them to lose and help us climb a bit and have the gameplan to stop their offense?

    This is quite the pickle!

  3. That hood hanging our of Gould’s jersey seems like a bad idea.
Good way to get ripped down by your neck and gives the defender something easy to grab

Pin back after interception and you bring in Chiles anyway. I sound like a broken record but unimaginative coaching with no finger on pulse of the game.

    • A couple of questionable calls there. I called it above right before it started happening. This where they let them back in it and fail to seal the game.

  5. Well, my over/under on 1st down throws was 8 and we had 3 in the 1st quarter. Also seemed to he the drives that didn’t go anywhere. Coincidence I’m sure.

Beavs very likely to move into the top 10 with a win, has GameDay confirmed they are coming to Corvallis yet? Tennessee’s loss leaves nothing else even close.

  7. Martinez having the game he deserved earlier…

    Over 1K yards today, every 4th carry a TD…not bad…

Feels like OSU is sending a message to UW and UO…

    • Anderson maybe….

DJ allegedly threw it 85 yards in a contest with another QB….i’ve heard Derek Anderson threw it 90…don’t know if its true.

    • Need to send an OSU contingent to James Madison with signs in hand and crash the ESPN coward presentation. So obvious they really don’t want to address the PAC12 dissolution and OSUs circumstance.

      • For some reason, they’re still sucking on the Gameday teat… the one attached to our conference’s destruction.

With our luck, the FOX version will show up. I didn’t even know the show existed until one of the Colorado games early in the season. So even if they do, would anyone know about it?

  8. I never wanted to say anything about it but I always thought Fenwick needed to hurdle because he always lowers his head and they upend him. The hurdle is a bad word on this site.

  9. 10

It would be a serious gamble for ESPN to come to Corvallis or Pullman this year. There are a lot if angry fans, and their “brand” show wants cheering crowds, not potential protests.

@sweatybeaver. Truth be told I wonder if most Oregon State fans would prefer that Gameday not come. It allows them to play the victim card, which at times it seems a certain segment of Beaver Nation is quick to do. That said, I understand it. Beavs and Cougars certainly deserved a better fate. Here’s to all this realignment stuff somehow making sense some day!

      • What an infantile broad brush.

Also, we are victims of a trust–one full of ostensibly intelligent schools trying to game centuries of established at-will contract law.

        So it’s ignorant, as well.

        Try again.

  10. Good reps for the 2nd and 3rd string guys. Chisolm had a few nice tackles, Nikko Taylor was pressuring the qb nicely. Lots of good things to say coming out of this game. JS didn’t need to gamble for anything. And the Riley spectre wasn’t a problem. So many good things happened tonight it is hard to complain about much other than refs throwing the game next week, and ESPN running away form the obvious site for gameday.

      • Even funnier that the Texas/TCU halftime show covers all teams except OSU and then they fit in a blurb about James
        Madison right at the end.
ESPN is trash self promoters and not really a sports reporting network. They have long ago crossed the line of controlling and promoting their own programming decisions by their own bottom line and ad revenue.
        So fraudulent. And pernicious.

I guess I’m in the minority regarding College Game Day. I’ve maybe watched a couple of hours of it in total over the past ten years. I’ve always found it hokey and self-serving with opinions from the hosts that are typically cliched and rarely insightful. I could give two fucks where they go and where they go doesn’t have any lasting impact on anything anyway.

          • Game day used to be a big deal about 12-13 years ago but who actually cares about it at this point? When I saw they were going to JMU, I just shrugged. I wouldn’t have watched if they came to Corvallis. So, I don’t really get why so many Beavers fans got worked up by them ignoring OSU. It’s to be expected. All I care about is the Beavers win next Saturday.

          • You are correct, but it unfortunately gets a lot of eyeballs. It is a shame they aren’t coming to Corvallis, but not unexpected. Fuck them. I just wish Smith and the Administration would put up more of a fight about the constant disrespect. Being nice isn’t doing us any favors.

          • According to espn.com the Beavs haven’t had a sellout this year because they haven’t updated the stadium capacity in two years. Why would they bother with game day in Corvallis?

  11. Ranking prediction: OSU drops to 13, ole miss and penn state stay ahead of them based on quality of losses and Missouri jumps them base on beating Tennessee.

Only way we jump into the top 10 is if CFP is using their rankings to create viewership and top 10 matchup. Seen this in the past. Normally, it’s a fringe team getting into the top 25 Then losing to a highly ranked team

    • If we win in court, what is the path OSU takes. Is our #1 choice to remain a 2 team conference for a year then have a rebuilt Pac-x confernce in 2025? Or join a power 4 conference in 2025?

      • If they win, Fox or ESPN will probably put up money to try and get them into the B1G/B12. They want to reduce it to Power 4 at any cost, and the Pac-2 taking up a power conf spot and preventing the CFP from voting them out is a major L.

If it’s a clear win to the tune of 600 million in assets or whatever has been speculated, they can weather the storm for two years and then absorb the MWC while the fuskies and yucks get used to 7 win seasons and lots of frequent flyer miles.

The funny thing is (and it’s so blatantly obvious espn didn’t want to be here)…..

James Madison is 10-0. They’ll be hosting a 6-4 Appalachian St team next Saturday.

JMU is in their 2nd FBS season. Therefore, they are not eligible for their conference championship nor are the eligible to participate in a bowl game.

They’ll be attending the “no one gives a fuck except fans of those 2 even smaller than Oregon St l, Sun belt schools” barn burner of a game.

They weren’t going to risk bad press and fans calling them out for being part of destroying a conference they never gave a fuck about.

I like Smith, but damn why can’t he stand up for the Beavs a bit more in his interviews. I feel like the entire program is taking this disrespect laying down. A bit of an FU attitude would be nice. WSU’s team is collapsing this year but at least their coach speaks out against all this BS. Fuck ESPN.

  13. 2

USC looked like they stopped the Quacks on 4th and 1, but the refs called a phantom offsides call. Also, kind of cool…a USC defender flew over the pile and knocked the butt pusher back so he couldn’t push Nix, which is one of the reasons the play failed until the “neutral zone” infraction.

  14. 5
    1

    Fox halftime of USC/Oregon.
They show highlights in order for Georgia, Ohio st, Mich, Florida St, Texas, UW/Utah, Arizona/Colorado and no mention of Beavs anywhere.

Ole Miss and Penn St were both totally outclassed in their games and should drop behind OSU. The Beavs should be moving into the top 10. No one is close enough to jump them.
Back from the commercial and they go LSU, Oklahoma and Central Arkansas Hail Mary.
Fox and ESPN are both limiting OSU coverage and it is a shame OSU lost to Arizona because they can justify not talking about a 2 loss team with no shot at the playoffs. So transparently biased.

  15. 6
    1

Huh. Halftime of UO/USC PAC game, no #12 OSU highlights from a conference game w/Stanford…huh.

Have undefeated #5 UW at home next week, but no OSU highlights…

  16. How many times are teams going to get burned by the Ducks throwing to Irving as a safety valve out of the backfield?

I swear they run that damn play a dozen times a game

    • It’s odd to me we dont see Bo run much. That was a huge oart of his game last year. I guess he doesnt need to, but it a weapon. One thing I noticed is he almost never gets touched by the defense. He’s good at getting rid of the ball quickly, which really negates the pass rush. Would be nice to see the Beavs get to him a few times and have him feel their presence. We’ve dinged up more than a couple QBs already this year.

Autzen is loud and they’ll keep it turned up against the Beavs. Not looking like a good matchup at all, but at least we saw that they start fast but couldnt maintain that level of play all game.

If Beavs can take down UW next week(and I really think they have a good shot) and somehow defeats oregon, do they still need to have Arizona lose 1 to avoid the 3 way tie?
I’m unclear how a 3-way tie between Arizona/Oregon/OregonState would turn out?

Makes sense we’d have the tie breaker straight up with oregon, but we wouldnt win a 2 way vs Arizona.
But I think a 3 way tie is handled differently.

We skip step 1 because those 3 teams don’t all have head to head games.
Step 2 of the multi-team tiebreaker reads
“Win percentage against all common conference opponents (must be common among all teams involved in the tie)”
So UA/OSU/UO will have all played UW/Utah/WSU/Colorado/Stanford as common opponents.
Leaving UA at 4-1, Oregon at 4-1, and OSU at 4-1. On to step 3

Step 3: Record againt next highest placed common opponent.
That’s UW, so Beavs would win that tiebreaker, assuming UW beats WSU.

But…what if UW loses to BOTH WSU and OSU, we have a 4 team tiebreaker?
I think step 2 would change the common opponent list to
    Utah/WSU/Stanford.
Arizona would and Oregon would win the top 2 spots in that scenario because they would both be 3-0 while UW/OSU would be 2-1. At least I think that’s how it would turn out.

Super complicated possibilities. Basically, we really want Utah to take down Arizona or UW to beat WSU, plus we need to win out to have our only shot at Vegas. Thats a tall order but all still within the realm of possibility.

Dear Jonathan Smith (and Oregon State football program),
As you are well aware this is the final season of the Pacific-12 conference as we know it. I want to congratulate you on the season so far. Today was a resounding 62-17 beatdown of Stanford. Another one of the 10 traitors who have decided the pa$ture$ are greener on the east coast de$pite the fact they’d be generating more revenue for their athletic department had they remained a$ a member of their current conference. As you are also aware, next weekend is the final home game at Reser Stadium as a member of the Pacific 12 conference as we know it. It also is potentially the only top 10 matchup on the schedule for the week…….

ESPN made the decision today for college gameday to attend the James Madison University/Appalachian State game in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Two members of the Sun Belt conference. No disrespect to either program, but?????? JMU is only in their 2nd season in FBS. They are not eligible for their conference championship nor eligible for even a bowl game. Appalachian State is 6-4. Seriously?

This is how little ESPN and Fox networks think of Oregon State and Corvallis……NO ONE showed any highlights of today’s win on their halftime and post game shows. Last weekend, they only showed CU highlights of the win in Boulder. You’d have thought the Buffaloes won that game. The powers that be at the TV networks wish for nothing more than Oregon State (and Washington State for that matter) to just slink away and die in obscurity. Tradition be damned. Travel be damned. They care about none of that. They did not want to be here. They don’t want any bad publicity or anyone shining a light on how they had a hand in destroying this conference. Over nothing but money. That is more important to them than this town, university, student athletes and programs.

This Saturday, November 18, 2023 the Washington Huskies will be making what is likely their final visit to Corvallis. They are undefeated and ranked 5th in the nation. 4:30pm on ABC. ESPN college gameday said F you, we don’t care.

It will be senior day. On national television. One last stand for this town and University to show the nation.

I and all of Beaver Nation ask one thing of you on this likely final home game of this conference as we now know it……
Send those entitled, money grubbing purple and gold pricks back to Seattle crying in the shower after giving them a buttfucking they’ll never forget.

    Signed,

    Beaver nation

It’s pretty clear this sport is rigged and we’re going to have to give a performance that would typically beat UW and Nike by 21 to win by 1.

I’ll continue to hope against hope the Beavs pull out a miracle like I always have, but I’m preparing for some atrocious ref performances the next few weeks.

Solid win by the Beavers. They looked a lot sharper than Oregon or Washington – the opponent had something to do with it for sure – but a lot of unforced errors by the Ducks and Huskies (glad I didn’t take the Huskies and the points – OOF). I’ll give USC credit, I figured they would quit in that game in the fourth quarter, but they didn’t.

Geez ESPN, what the hell – I know Disney is cutting back because their Marvel movies are tanking, but you couldn’t pony up for the roadie to Corvallis and opt for Tuscaloosa to JMU? Weak Sauce. Any word on Big Noon? I know Fox typically doesn’t go places they don’t have games, but that would be a pretty big FU to ESPN.

    • Big Noon is at Annapolis for Michigan vs Maryland, smh. Debating Harbaugh’s situation apparently is more ratings driven than the games.

Speaking of games being rigged, I think it may be more to do with gambling than ratings. It seems like every game there are suspicious calls early on that tend to flip momentum or keep things within a 1 score spread as long as possible. So ridiculous how much sports betting is now woven into the sports talk culture but it isn’t creating any element of suspicion regarding outcomes, point shaving, fixing of games, rigging of officials? I guess our common culture has progressed beyond the possibility of grown men being tempted to cheat at their underpaid job to make several thousand dollars for a subjective call or two.

Pete Rose and Tim Donaghy were the old generation, not at all with the virtues of this current generation of sports figures/referees.

  21. ESPN reporting Texas AM firing Jimbo Fisher – $76m buyout DUE at firing be damned – oh yeah and Sagarin has TexAM ranked AHEAD of the Beavers. Mr. Sagarin, after very careful consideration, I’ve deterimined your computer rankings suck. He has Michigan no. 1 despite no wins over top 30 teams and the worst SoS of any top 25 team. Go figure.

  22. CBS has us at #10 in their “tomorrow”’s top 25 today.”

I can’t believe how little slippage people are predicting for Penn State. Their offense is hot trash.

  23. Assumption: ESPN thinks it’s likely they will do gameday for the civil war, they don’t want to do Oregon State back to back weeks. And being at Oregon is probably bigger $$ in their eyes than being at Oregon State.

More pessimistic assumption: they just didn’t want to deal with potentially upset Oregon State fans

  24. That pass to Gould at the beginning of the 2nd is PRECISELY what everyone has wanted to see; more of that where it makes sense too in the remaining games!

    • It’s been open a few times throughout the season, DJ just missed it . He had all the time in the pocket and had his feet set on the pass to Gould.

    • Last time Oregon State was ranked in the top 10 or higher this late in the season – Ol’ No. 9 was playing QB. That has to be pretty cool for Smith. Ed Ray made a great hire. I wasn’t sure Smith was ready at the time.

The nice thing is – he’s got a six-year contract – worth around $5m a year. Even if the Beavs are relegated to the MWC, his price will only go up. I doubt Texas A and M comes calling – and even if they do – coaches know thats where you cash in and flame out.

        • 1
          1

Smith is not a candidate for USC and UCLA. Doesn’t have the charisma or flash. The great thing about having Smith is that he’s a top 10 coach but also not really a fit for most of the top programs. It’s a real sweet spot for OSU. I’m pretty concerned about Michigan though. It’s one of the few truly elite programs that might actually consider Smith. A&M also scares me a little bit. OSU should give Smith his long-term Godfather extension sooner rather than later.

      • Smith was a no brainer hire. He’d shown promise in terms of scheme, had strong ties to the University, and also appeared to be a fairly humble/no frills kind of guy. Literal perfect fit for OSU. There was zero to lose by hiring Smith because the program was at rock bottom at the time. Even if he flamed out they lost nothing and in the off chance he succeeded he would be more likely to stay than some up and coming young coach who would obviously just be looking for the next job. I still believe Smith stays. He’s the Mark Few of college football. Definitely has opportunities to move up to a bigger program but he’s content with what he has.

  25. Beavs up to #4 overall team in PFF game grades (only Georgia, Alabama and Michigan are higher). All while
dropping to second worst tackling team in the country.

Early prediction for next Saturday is the Beavs win big. UW really hasn’t played great since September. Several mediocre teams pushed them to the limit and quite frankly, they should have at least 2 losses by now and maybe more. They are 72nd in FBS in yards/play. For reference the Beavers are 32nd. When they face a QB who isn’t a disaster, they give up yards and points and a lot of them. This game is at Reser where the Beavers have been crushing teams. This is a classic case of a paper tiger that has squeaked out a bunch of wins thanks to official blunders, teams dropping wide open passes and dreadful QB play. This is the first all season UW is playing a team on the road with an experienced, quality QB and an upper level team overall. This screams Washington getting punched in the mouth early and often and the Beavers winning big.

    Prediction: 45-24 Beavs

    • Should have said they are 72nd in yards per play allowed. Beavers being 32nd is surprising but proof that if this team could actually tackle, they’d probably be a top 15 defense

    • 1
      1

Agree with your points on UW being vulnerable. The Vegas line is off IMO, Beavs should be favored by 3. Can’t get behind the blow-out prediction though. DeBoer is an excellent coach and the program is fighting for the CFP. This game will have their full attention.

      • 6
        1

I don’t have total confidence in the secondary, even against Stanford there were a couple of WTF coverages. The interceptions were nice to see, but totally on Stanford QB making poor, poor high school-esque decisions. I think the Beavs can win if they patiently stick with the run game, but Penix is going to have more success than last year.

        • Agree. It’s the main reason I wouldn’t pick the Beavs to win big in this game. Some plays will be made and points scored by UW no matter what. And the Beav offense just isn’t dangerous enough to run away and hide. The atmosphere should give them a slight edge though.

      • Washington is pretty similar to USC last year. Great offense, pedestrian defense but find a way to keep winning even when they’re outplayed for significant stretches. Eventually, the luck runs out like it did for USC against Utah. Washington doesn’t force a lot of turnovers, Beavers don’t commit many. Washington is 81st defensively in yards/rush. They also don’t generate a ton of pressure on the QB. This is a very bad matchup for UW defensively. Beavs are one of the best pass rushing teams and if they pressure Penix he can be rattled. Beavs like most defenses are vulnerable against QBs who are very mobile. Penix is much more of a pocket passer who isn’t gonna take off and run down the field. ASU blitzed him like crazy and he was wildly inaccurate for most of the game.

This game is a perfect storm for the Beavs. Oregon to me is far more scary than Washington. Reser will be crazy and I fully expect the Beavers will play their best game of the year. UW offense will make some plays and won’t be “shutdown” but I think the Beavs will win fairly comfortably

        • We’ve played four common opponents—Utah, Stanford, Arizona, Cal

          vs common opponents
          Huskies average score 42-29
          Beavs average score 41-22

  27. As much as we’ve complained about Lindgren failing to utilize the rush to full advantage, there may be a payoff now. Martinez may be better rested for the next games, Fenwick too.

Martinez now leads the Pac-12 in rushing yards with 1024 on 155 attempts. Jaydn Ott is second with 1,016; he has 17 more carries than Martinez.
Now, 17 carries is only a couple per game, but I’m thinking keeping Martinez at an avg of 15.5 carries so far may pay off vs the next two/three/four opponents. Maybe we’ll finally see the run game we’ve wanted and less of the opponents offense.

      • He has had a couple pretty good catches lately(TD vs Colorado and TD vs Stanford were both pretty nice)
I don’t really like how we look when throwing to the RB in general though. Those passes have often been to high or behind the receiver and are just waiting tonget picked off

  28. “Oregon State is 18-5 over the past two seasons. Four of the five losses have been by a margin of a field goal: Washington and USC in 2022, and WSU and Arizona this season.”

  29. 4

    Good game by the ladies.

Unfortunately it looks like opposing coaches will have their players use Beers as a punching bag (and allowed to get away with it) and their players will flop anytime Beers gets near them.

Refs sucked in general today, Hansford got her head bounced off the hardwood no call, ticky tacky BS on Beers, shooting fouls called when no beav within a foot of shooter, just gross overall.

SR is giving lots of minutes to the youngsters, Hunter started, and has Shuler’s handles.

    Good Beavo weekend all around

  30. Can’t tell who is actually upset Gameday isn’t coming…

I’ve been saying it for a while, they were never coming. ESPN can’t have a giant FU chant in the background for 3 hours straight. There are a substantial number of Beavs fans that would do that too, just read this blog.

    • From now on, I’m just going to watch 75 every play. How frustrating for d-lineman. They try to spin away, he just nudges them 5 yards away from where they are trying to go.

    • On Martinez’ 4th TD he just escorted his defender into other defenders, and then kept pushing him through the crowd.

He was pretty focused on one thing.

  31. Game observations,

It’s clear a lot of people like standing and watching the game vs going to their seats. The Beaver Walk may have become too popular! No one wants to go there because it’s too crowded!

DJU led 6 drives and all resulted in TDs.
    – But for all those wondering! There were 19 first down plays. 10 were passes. 6 were incomplete. Neither stat is good.
    – On third down, he was 3-3 with 2 first downs and on 4th down he was 1-1 with a first down. That is very good.
    – His pass to Terry was similar to the one to Velling but the Stanford guys weren’t really that close to Terry. Great for Terry, he needed that after transferring in with a reputation as a pass catcher. First career TD catch in college.

Damien showing why he’s the best back in the conference. Amazing he put up all that production and under 20 carries.

Defense has some lapses but nothing that put Stanford into the game. They got bit with misdirection a little. But the Stanford QB just kept throwing them up into coverage. I give him more credit than the d making a play. After the 75 yard TD pass, the defense looked like it had a come to Jesus meeting on the sideline. All players were circled up. Bray probably letting them know they can’t let up even when the game is out of hand.

Liked JS kept running the offense with Chiles in the second half. That’s how it should be done. Let the players play and execute vs just plain runs.

A few true freshman got into the game and recorded stats! Haven’t checked the participation yet but I’m sure others saw the field too.
David Wells Jr, Isaiah Chisom, Andre Jordan

Omotosho got a sack. Wonder if he can build off of that. Will need an amazing pass rush vs UW and Oregon.

    • The program that just decided it was worth it to pay Jimbo Fisher’s $77M buyout to not coach, so obviously money is no object to their boosters.
If the price is right, I don’t know how any head coach would turn down the kind of money aTm wants to throw down. If it doesn’t work out, you’re already set for life.

      • They’ll need to hire someone fairly quickly with the early signing period coming up. And recruiting rankings matter there.

Lanning has a $20 million dollar buyout. Oregon was not going to make it cheap for anyone after that last two. A&M would have to pay roughly $100 million for him. 20 plus 8 mil for 10 years.

          • This article arrived at the same figure you did and said they are prepared to spend $100M for their next head coach.
Either way, Dan Lanning is going to be an even richer man soon, and he is doing well already.

          • Perfect time for a major distraction for Ducks before Civil War. Lanning would be smart to go get the money at Texas A&M now since his qb is graduating and he will be fully exposed next year without a guy whp has started 700 college games covering for his coaching blunders.

UW and Oregon both fending off suitors trying to poach their coaches before the season’s key games are played. It sets up beautifully for the Beavs. Hoping Beavs can take advantage and the rumors pick up going into this weekend.

          • At this point I’m a little confused about “Uncle Phil’s” strategy for Oregon. It’s obvious he’s tried to buy a championship since the mid 90’s. The total donations have been insane but for some reason Oregon is never willing to come over the top and exceed any offer that the head coach gets. This basically guarantees they won’t be able to retain their coach after a successful year because there’s almost always an opening at a big program somewhere. As a billionaire who has already thrown away 100s of millions at the Duck football program, why not just go all in on a couple hundred million more to get all the best coaches and players? It would have hardly any impact on his net worth. Just seems odd to spend as much as he has but then not go the extra mile.

          • Because at some point money isn’t the determining factor so even if Phil kept matching or going above the competitions annual salary, his coach would leave anyways. Mario left for more than just money (family). I don’t think Lanning will leave yet.

    • not a sexy enough hire. recruiting a bunch of 3* guys with the occasional 4* mixed in isn’t and the rare 10 win season isn’t going to excite anybody in that fan base.
