Like most of you guys, I feel good about this game. The 3-3-5 scheme does concern me a little, though. Think about it–Beavs strength is passing, and AZ will have 5 defenders back there. With only 3 down linemen I think the game plan should be "run the ball". Do the Beavs have the horses to do it? We know they can pass. This is a ground game test. The OL is so improved that I think they'll pull it off…I'm not expecting Mannion to have a huge night. Probably lots of check downs and horizontal passes. Think the running game and D have to win this one. Should be an interesting give and take with AZ's safety play.

I'm thinking something like 24-20, Beavs. Mannion 1TD, Storm Woods 2 TDs, D stand to win it.

  1. #1 in the nation against the run!!!

We’ll see if that can continue against a running QB. If he’s gimpy, we win easy. If he’s fine…closer, but still win.

  2. Not a fan of that play; it has ONE person to throw to, or at least Mannion stared one receiver down.

Arizona’s defense impressed me for most of the game against UO, could be in for a real challenge scoring.

  3. Stupid play by Prince. Gotta be SUBTLE with the pick lol.

Haven’t seen that TE screen since we had The Tank. Don’t think Prince is fast enough for it.

  4. I don’t think anyone could defend Cooks on a hook route, because if you defend it correctly, you give up a huge streak.

Storm with another nice 4-yard run. I’ll take 4 all day.

  5. My girlfriend just said, “They gave us the refs from the Seahawks game.”

FOR SURE. Bow down to the home crowd, don’t want to get boo’d too much!

  6. Btw, RichRod is a giant pile. I think I hate him more than Chip. He just marches around the sideline, constantly complaining and looking angry.

  7. “False start on the offense.”

Whenever they call a penalty “On the offense” it seems like complete BS. Unless the refs don’t know which lineman jumped off, which is not possible.

  8. Man, I guess these refs only call offensive pass interference. Didn’t really like the play calling that red zone trip. I don’t think I need to say anything about romaine.

  9. I wish OSU would plan for two plays in a row on third – “if we don’t get it on third, go hurry up right into this play….” Romaine sucks right now. Maybe the last half of his senior year he’ll be decent.

  10. I wish Riley would have called a timeout when the team broke the huddle with barely 5 seconds when we were on the 6 yard line.

We couln’t afford a penalty in that situation and it warranted a timeout at a big moment in the game for OSU to be looking very good. Could have been called delay of game if the false start was’t called. Too bad the refs called that cause I think OSU would have scored on a run on the next play had they not.

  11. Did I hear Parker right? Ok State penalized some 15 times for 150+ yds when they played in Tucson, after seeing this “officiating” I believe it.

  12. Rileys’ got to start calling more imaginative plays in the red zone. Same old shit. When we play higher caliber teams not getting 7 points will lose us the game. Defense doing great. This the game to see if Riley can stack the points up. It looks very possible against Arizona.

  13. Damn our kicker sucks. That could kill us at some point this year. Punter looks great though. Defense looks spectacular so far with only a couple of let downs. The guy I’m loving the most is Storm Woods. Lets keep it up in the second half!

  14. Beavs don’t look as intense…seems like the noise and environment is getting to them. D looks tired and it’s only the 3rd quarter.
    Romaine missed FG looms larger.

  15. OSU should not be coached to run kickoffs out of the endzone in the first 5 yards. Any kick in the endzone that lets you start at the 25 is good starting field position. Too often you make it only to the 15 or less. This needs to start now!

  16. Wow, they run up the middle for 20 and the lead. Amazing.

Team seems about ready to collapse here. Need another long, game-shifting drive like we had the first two games, otherwise we’re going to lose this.

Also, the defense is playing like absolute crap the last three drives. Giving up screens, then overcompensating on the outside and getting torched inside. That’s just Banker getting out-called, hard.

  17. Okay, Banker, FLATTEN THE DEFENSE!!!

If Scott burns us with big throws, so be it. Because right now, they’re only using WR screens and runs. Bring the safeties up and make him throw-to-win.

  18. As you say that, he coughs up the ball. Amazing.

This is like Agnew’s SacSt. game. Huge yardage, great game…then huge fumble that murders us.

We were getting all the momentum back too. Dammit.

    • Exactly. That is bullshit. You can’t make a call, call one team off, and then give the ball to the team that rips it away. I’m so pissed.

  19. This zone defense that we’re running is horrible.

And I’m sick of these homer commentators now. Not quite as bad as watching a Blazer game, but still bad.

  20. At these times I switch to listening to the game on the radio and watching the TV. That way I hear how the play came out before I see it. I find it lowers my blood pressure.

  21. UA has gotten to score twice on shorter-than-50 yard drives because of field position. That fumble was a killer, but so was that short punt earlier that the returner almost botched.

  22. How many times did we hear about how we were going to see multiple backs? Woods is obviously the best, but lets see some Agnew so Woods does not get so tired out! If Agnew never gets any carries he will never be serviceable much like a pinch hitter in baseball. Man this is pissing me off.

  23. Yet ANOTHER big screen. Oh my god, the slot CB was NOWHERE to be found. Or was that Zimmerman “Covering” again?

He’s the weak link tonight, and he’s murdering us.

  24. Playing like fucking idiots. Awesome. Not turning to look for the ball, piss poor tackling, playing coward ball like ’10 and ’11. And I’m pretty sure Langsdorf is callin the plays again.

  25. I disagree. We were killing them in the first half with our passing game. Storm looked great in the 3rd, for sure, but the passing game is really killing them.

Of course, balance is ideal, but if it’s one or the other…pass.

  26. I always hate our 3rd CBs, and as much as I want to blame Martin for that, you can’t make a corner defend for THAT LONG.

    No pressure at all tonight.

  27. Ducks just scored again…. 40 something to 19 now. Guess I can focus on us now! also, Nebraska came back and won a close one against Wisconsin! Either way, makes OSU look good because it was a close game and we beat UW and UCLA(who beat Nebraska).

    • Banker’s scheme is fine. Banker’s play calling is MISERABLE.

And they keep lining up 3 WRs, and we have 2 players on them correctly, and a safety deep. Getting annihilated on the screen that way, when it’s basically 3v2.

  28. You can’t get a clearer view of that being a touchdown….why would you not call that confirmed? Did they say, “I can’t say either way, just get this over with and say stands. We’re just trying to make the OSU fans happy we reviewed the play at this time. keep calling penalties on the defenses so we can get a high scoring game and the clock can run. Thanks.”

  29. Beavs D won the first two games, time for the O to pull this one out. Need a time eating drive now. Woods and Agnew both (and a little Anderson).

  30. At this point, I think I would rather have Stricherz’s crew instead of this crew…..I thought stricherz was bad, but these guys are WORSE?!

  31. I know I’m nit picking, but I’d like to see our big guy help Woods up after he gets hit by 3 defenders. That’s been bugging me all night.

    • I don’t know about “Bad” but neither team was perfect.

Really, we each played 3 pretty good quarters. They were terrible in the 1st, we were terrible in the 3rd. And neither defense was amazing, but we finally got those TOs we needed.

      • True. I think the refs jobbed the Beavs and handed AZ some points, but that wasn’t good football by either team. Beavs D was pretty bad IMO.
Beavs offense was great. AZ wasn’t great in any facet of the game. For that OSU deserved to win. They just looked better. Would have been a shame of AZ won.

    • these kids made a statement, looked nothing like the last two years. keeping it together, playing hard, and believing they could win, on the road, down by a score and 5 minutes left. was it perfect, hell was it even good? no. but they still won. btw, despite the horrific refs.

      proud of this team.

  32. This is a character building win, these guys will be unlikely to cave with this experience behind them. So good to see the O come alive tonight.

  33. b2b 300 plus yard games for Wheaton/ Cooks. Wheaton with 3 TD catches on the season and he only had 1 last year. Great game and I didn’t give up on the Beavs and they didn’t give up on themselves. Just feels like a special team.

  34. Holy shit! I am so speechless! Nail-biter for sure, I was going to have a heart attack.
The defense played mediocre and comes up clutch in the perfect moment!
The offense didn’t give in to losing either!

  35. I’m kind of thinking the defense is going to be average with some play making ability, but the offense is jelling quickly into something special.

      • Every team has at least 1 game where they have a difficult game defending the opponent…tonight was our turn. This just proves that Banker yelling at the team this week for being complacent….was warranted and needed. This game will show that the defense needs to focus up and pay more attention to the opponent their playing!

    • They were average to bad tonight. Even in that mediocrity, I saw *something* that wasn’t there last year. Not sure how to define it or explain it.

Saw too much #13 and #6, though. That has to change.

    • Can’t agree. This D has already shown it can be very good, not average at all. I chalk this up to an off night against a surprisingly good QB. The D against Wisc and UCLA will return.

OK, the challenge of playing from behind has been met, now comes the challenge of playing as the favorite. I think these guys are up to it, their heads are screwed on straight! GO BEAVS !

      • I agree, plus, teams are now getting film on us. Two unexpected wins will really get you attention.

You guys might hate Rich Rod but he’s going to study the shit out of his next opponent and come up with a plan. He had more video ammo than Wisconsin or UCLA. We need to expect this from now on, no one is under the radar. No more surprises. It’s smash mouth time from here on out.

  36. Washington State hung with the ducks first half again. Might be a tough game next week. Hopefully nit a trap game for us. This team has heart though.

    • WSU made it interesting but I also feel that they probably blew their wad. They were at ‘home’ in front of an energetic crowd and they kept it close just long enough for them all to start believing… then they got ducked.
Now they go on the road to the most hostile environment of the year so far.
Not that we should look past them of course, but I don’t see them keeping it closer that 14.

  37. Great character win! Mannion with a a 4th Quarter comeback. Great resolve and heart. That was a hard fought battle. So proud of these guys. 3-0 in September for the first time! Great game, both teams back and forth.

Still have some things to work on. Too many penalties, defense needed a better rush and got out schemed on. Need to hang onto the ball. But the good outway the bad. Go Beavs! Let’s go get the Cougs.

    • Once again, plenty of teachable moments. I like it, little chance that these guys will get overconfident; the coaches have plenty of film to get their attention during the week.

  38. YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!! That was the kind of game that the Beavers would have lost the last 5 years. When Arizona started rolling on offense and the Storm fumble you could have said it was over but not this year. Not this team. They have heart,

  39. Wow, what a game! My range of emotions went to both extremes and back. Besides a terrible 3rd quarter the Beavers were the better team by far. As usual our D has trouble against up tempo spread offenses which does not bode well against the Ducks but I don’t feel like being pessimistic about that yet. Based on these first three games I’d take Mannion against any QB in the conference and maybe the nation except the guy from West Virginia. He could be looking at 1st team Pac-12 honors if he keeps this up.

  40. I was impressed with AZ’s halftime adjustments. They figured out exactly where the weak spots were and damn near pulled it off.

Storm looked great. He doesn’t go down easy and has great vision.

The last two games I’ve had the feeling that Poyer has been reading his own headlines. He needs to focus.

  41. Nice work Angry! your predictions are pretty spot on, except for Mannion not having a big game. Woods big game, defensive stand to end it, even the point spread is close. Well done.

What a great game, this team is tough. GO BEAVS

  42. Guessing 17th or 16th at best. Nobody loses, it’s really hard for a LATE game team to move up.

And don’t let Zimmerman off the hook, Angry; he got crushed on almost a DOZEN plays tonight. Tons of blown coverage, blown tackles, juked out of his cleats…it was a bloodbath. It was impressive how bad Martin was in the short time he was on-the-field, but Zimmerman was bad for 50% of the game as a starter.

    • Perry is gonna get on his ass all week at practice. Secondary is capable of being great, just need to be more sound and wrap up. Plays were there to be made, just didn’t do it. Think it will be corrected.

    • Haha, that was the tool bag who said “there is no way the Cats lose with their new helmets” right? Then said vehemently that the Beavs were going down?

      Eat crow.
