Just some housekeeping and updates:
1. Oldbeav and Nicebeav, do you guys have the ability to ban users? If not, I might have to give you guys this ability for when I’m not around. It seems when Santa was away, the elves came out to play.
2. It looks like AB will survive. I don’t want to hear A@A groping. If he likes to work for free, cool. He can do that. But anyway, you guys came through. It’s not a lot, but at least it’s not near zero. We can call off the April 1 deadline and call things good so long as they stay in place.
3. If anyone has to cancel (finances, hardship, etc) their recurring in the future, please post about it here or write me an email, so we can hopefully find someone to take that place. If anyone was planning to donate still, you can, and thanks in advance.
4. Go Beavs – General thread, anything goes.
Thanks to all for understanding. Generous people here.
New thread up Friday for baseball, but we’ll stay general for now. The baseball thread is already drafted and scheduled to post Friday morning, so mods, no need to do anything.
First baby!
Glad to hear that people came through! Good job Beavs!
Any news on the RB coach or recruiting coordinator?
Recruiting coordinator will be one of our current grad assistants. Just dont know which one at thos point.
I’m suspecting Brasfield will be the RB coach, but only a guess at this point.
The school down the road had to cancel opening weekend series for Covid contact tracing. Looks like they won’t be going to Omaha this year after all.
Hopefully we can avoid the same Covid issues.
So, you just criticized me for antagonizing a Duck fan and you do the same thing? Hmm, interesting.
My bad, it wasn’t you it was someone else.
Haha, yeah, definitely the wrong person. I antagonize those fools every chance I get.
Happy to donate a cup of joes worth each month. I’ll have to budget that out of the $50 Million I sent to finish the stadium.
Anybody else dealing with a power outage from the ice storm?
We’re going into day 4 tomorrow. Makes me wish we had gas heat/stove.
Heat, meaning gas fireplace. Even for the extra light it would be nice.
Go for v day x2 and break the candles out
The place we stayed at this weekend had gas heat. It was pretty nice, but I dont have NG available to me so I rely on a portable generator. If you have NG at the street it might be worth looking into. And also look into NG whole house generators or something to at least run fridges and freezers and maybe a few lights.
The wife and I started looking at whole house versions after we got back home. This last one was 2.5 days, but we’ve had 4 outages since november.
We have a gas furnace currently, but the rest of the appliances are electric. We were planning to do a remodel in the mear future, and piping gas to cover other appliances is going to have to be part of it, just to have some options if the power goes down like this again. We live around older neighborhoods with pretty mature trees and they got ripped apart. The more I drive around the more I’m amazed nobody was reported dead from falling branches.
Just buy a windmill and some solar panels.
We’re on a well, lack of running water is my biggest gripe. Hauling a 5 gal carboy up and down stairs to flush toilets is a pain. Would be great to get the generator set up to plug directly into the house wiring, it’s too small to run everything but it’d be more convenient. Don’t love the din though. Apparently after the Fukushima earthquake people were setting up their hybrid and electric cars to power their homes. That would be quiet. Most of the heat is from the wood burning insert right now, but if we had access to NG we’d have a gas fireplace.
Well here as well.
Wife learned a long time ago to fill bathtubs with water for flushing anytime weather threatens power outages.
Should have been my first thought as I lay in bed listening to branches rip off trees every ten seconds and the lights flickered. Well, there’s always next year.
Thinking I’ll need to invest in one of those portable composting camping toilets to keep out in the garage.
You could get one of those green styrofoam “o’s” they have around here to sit on in cold weather.
Reminder:
The baseball game this Friday starts at 11am PT (FLOSPORTS). Followed by WBB vs USC on PAC12 at 2:30
It’s been colder than a witches teet here in the Twin Cities the last ten days. Below zero every day with a minus 23 temp Sunday..Going to a bar on Thursday night with my two WI Badger buddies and their wives. The place has outdoor Ice Games including Ice Cornhole and Ice Beer Pong. Temps will be in the low single digits, so it should be interesting.
Glad to hear Angrybeavs will live on! I’m not going to Surprise this year which sucks. Hope the baseball team can get it going.again to make up for the highly disappointing basketball squads.
Icehole?
There is a line of cheap booze sold in WI marketed to the ice fishing crowd that’s called…….Ice Hole. You missed your calling!
Same we were -12 several days.
Today looks better.
Funny to think that OSU spring football is only about a month away, curious about dates and looking around for notes I found the following in the G-T from last month:
“… players who opted out of the 2020 season expected to return include Jeremy Reichner, JoJo Forest, Jonathan Riley and Onesimus Clarke…Roberts and Gumbs could practice after returning from injuries…
Early arrivals identified in January included QB Sam Vidlak, defensive lineman Omarion Fa’amoe and cornerback Arnez Madison are all enrolled, and Semisi Saluni, an OLB who signed in 2018 is also enrolled in classes and will take part in winter workouts. Saluni, a three-star recruit out of high school, began a two-year mission for the LDS church in 2018 and completed it in 2020.”
If I had to guess, the Beavs will likely pick up their first commit of the 2022 class at the QB position. I suspect it will be Katin Houser. 3* Pro Style QB from St John Bosco in California.
Just going with my gut on this one.
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2022/katin-houser-252714
This will be an interesting recruiting cycle. Houser, for example last played his sophomore season (and in a different state), yet apparently he’s close to committing. I imagine it’s much harder for staffs to rate these guys with so little film available. That should provide the opportunity for some “steals” as well as for some guys to end up being overrated.
I’m not saying he’s close to committing. I really dont know his timeline. Just my gut feeling, and my gut has been somewhat reliable with these things in the past. But i also had a burrito for dinner last night, so it could be that
Good point Beav in Ohio, I think there are more offers going out to those looked good in 7v7 and camps, but have yet to do much in real H.S football. 7v7 and camps do not measure mental toughness, intensity and competitiveness which I would think are also key indicators for success.
Some good players have come out of that school, so hopefully this kid is the real deal.
Beavergopher right — Bosco traditionally well known for its football program in CA.
First article after googling his name
https://www.si.com/college/washington/recruiting/surfs-up-for-2022-california-qb-hoping-to-catch-a-husky-wave
Must have performed really well in camps or 7v7s because it’s hard to find any game film or stats.
I think I read he was one of the standouts from the most recent Elite 11 camp in California.
Damn that burrito. Winder how long he holds out for a Husky offer before the Beavs move on?
Smith really needs to land a top QB in the 2022 cycle to build the class around. Recruits always notice who the QB is in their class. It’s a bit of a domino effect.
Agree a top tier qb seems to really help give the class momentum. Plus most all of the other pac schools have gotten a 4 star in the last recruiting cycles or transfer. Not that is the end all be all. But for instance I don’t think a guy like vidlak who’s a little under the radar gives you the same momentum as a highly rated recruit. Not saying I don’t think he’s good and that he could be better than some of the other schools more highly rated commits.
Just got notification Rush Limbaugh died.
What? RIP…..never agreed with him but RIP.
So let me see….5 people are glad that someone died? Yikes…..you do know that death is permanent right
unless, of course, you reincarnate as a Duck fan and then you’re going to hell for sure.
He had said this was coming, up around the time of the election. Said to his listwners he had some type of terminal cancer he was fighting.
It was long before the election. My dad would listen to him every day working on our ranch, every barn, every truck turned into the station.
Made millions after promoting lie after lie. No further comment needed.
Homie…pull your head out of your ass and take a breath of fresh air.
I visit this site about once every few months. I used to visit more often but I got sick of assholes like Homefry who want to spout their political rhetoric. Perhaps that is why some of the donors decided to end their donations. If people want to use this site to push their bullshit on everyone else, perhaps this site should be taken down.

I think it’s the 2022 class that’s going to get the squeeze because of the eligibility extension plus half the country didn’t play right? Fewer spots available as guys can be 6th year seniors.
Football recruiting will have to be kind of like baseball and really have to project on a lot of guys before they play higher level competition. Any school that has a lot of scholarships to offer may be able to benefit immensely. I think the Beavs are in an ok spot there. Might see other schools encourage guys to retire or move on to make room for the new class.
A baseball preview since there’s really not much to go on and my work is slow tdoay. Usually summer leagues indicated what players were ready to burst onto the scene. One of the hardest years to predict but I’ll give it a try anyway.
The biggest questions for the year,
1. Is there enough talent on this team to contend for a conference title?
2. What impact will the coaching staff have in year 1.5?
3. Who are the breakout players? Always one or two guys who after a year or two have a great year.
4. Impact freshman?
5. What’s the ceiling of this year’s team?
1. I don’t think there is enough talent on the team to contend for the PAC12 title. There was a dip in recruiting following the bonanza in 14-16 classes. There’s always guys who develop and have great years but the best teams are carried by guys who come in and become cornerstones immediately.
The ’14 class was a pretty solid class. Harrison, Gillette were top 150 guys. Rasmussen, Cary, Gretler, Cary and Martinek were top 500 guys. Had three more top guys who went pro instead, Loehr, George and Hinz. Heimlich, Donahue and Tweedt rounded out that class. Heimlich was unranked as he graduated early. Would have been ranked if he came in his original ’15 class.
The ’15 class was pretty special. Grenier, Madrigral were the top 150 recruits. Also had Fehmel, Larnach, Taylor, Kwan. Only Kwan was outside the top 500 rankings. Had one top guy go pro, Oxnevad.
The 16′ class was good but did not have a top 150 recruit. Gambrell, Verberg, Rutschman, Jones, and Willy were all ranked. Malone, Eisert, Mulholland, Armstrong, Mendazona rounded out this class. A class that benefitted from the cornerstone guys in the two previous classes.
The ’17 class is where the drop begins. Only Abel was a top 150 recruit. Claunch, Burns and Foster were the only others ranked.
The ’18 class had no top 150 recruits. Only two ranked guys made it to campus, Pfennings and Dukart. Easley turned pro instead.
The ’19 class had a little bit more depth. Still no top 150 guy but 5 guys ranked. Only McLaughlin is gone and it appears grades were an issue as he is at a CC in AZ now.
The ’20 class of course had Mick Abel but he’s gone. Only other two guys ranked were Giblin and Donahue.
Though there is a dip, help is on the way. In each future class now, there is at least 1 top 150 recruit with more than a few top 500 guys.
So long answer, outside of Abel, they don’t have enough cornerstone guys right now. Unranked guys from prior classes benefitted from the cornerstone guys by having room to make mistakes and learn from the better guys.
2. Well since talent is an issue this year, coaches will need to coach the players up. Interesting add of Barney who goes from AAA manager to assistant coach. Adds another pro element to the staff as most of their coaching background is at the pro level. More modern day coaches vs Casey’s old school hard knocks type. Would hope to see defense as a strength this year. All coaches played at OSU and went to the CWS except for Dorman.
3. I think we’ve gotten used to a guy coming out of nowhere and having a great year and then getting drafted. Been waiting for Jones for four years. Claunch too. Don’t really have an idea for this year. Would be nice to see guys from the ’19 class breakout. Valero, Boyd, McDowell.
4. I guess Giblin and Donahue since they were the only ranked guys in their class that made it to campus. None of the freshman last year did much.
5. Ceiling for this team is supers and everything will have to go right for that. They will have to scrap and dig deep every game to be a good team. Winning conference record is a reasonable goal. Can’t rely on CG SHO from Abel every Friday. Super Seniors will need to lead the team (Jones, Armstrong, Mulholland). Pitching should be ok but the offense will need to carry them occasionally. I hope they can make the tourney but they’ll be on the bubble the entire year.
I don’t know. I’m friends with John Sipple, former Beaver pitching great, and he’s close to the program. He tells me that this team has quality pitching depth and some very solid position players. They also have depth in the bullpen. Big question mark is….can they run produce at the plate. We shall see but I expect this team to pitch well and play solid defense. Those two things will keep you in most ballgames. I guess we’ll see very soon what this team looks like, but I’m certainly more optimistic going into this season than I was last year.
Agree… my sources close to team are raving about the talent level. Pitching, defense, power and speed. Still needs to gel. Casey was the glue in past and typically got the most out of his teams. Wildcard this year is Mitch and staff. But they have the talent to content for Pac-12 title or national title if they gel and stay healthy
Thanks Bill, good stuff.
Coaches poll has Beavs at #4 behind UCLA and the AZ schools.
That ranking is likely influenced by OSU history and not a detailed analysis. Yours is more realistic (ie: 4th or 5th ?).
Mulholland is one of the keys, how will his failed attempt at being a starter impact this year? Can he be the needed and stabilizing Super Senior.
I think Claunch is the other key. Still need someone else to step up in order to make the supers.
Anyone heard who will be doing radio from Surprise??
Check out the latest episode of The Payton Years, the only podcast in existence dedicated solely to Oregon State men’s basketball. This week Sam and Andy discuss the losses to Colorado and the Arizona schools, discuss their personal grievances with Arizona State University, and get caught up with another Bygone Beav. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-payton-years/id1536831436?i=1000509047603
so are you sam or andy?
Sam
Anyone have info on Joshua Allen posting he is thinking about walking on at Oregon St.? I don’t know how his production was at Colorado. Looks like special teams at Colorado. Maybe went to Riverside Community College out of high school prior to Colorado.
https://247sports.com/Player/Jashua-Allen-46054486/
Definitely has bounced around via https://cubuffs.com/sports/football/roster/jash-allen/13136

Dont know, but he locked his twitter account down, so maybe that tweet didnt get the attention he was hoping for?
Looks like baseball picked up a new JC commit. RHP/DH Braden Boisvert. Has a younger brother Brody who also plays baseball, so maybe another guy to keep an eye on for a future class.

UM QB Milton, described as a “Cam Newton” type QB, big, mobile, athletic, with accuracy problems, entered transfer portal today. He was Harbaugh’s recruit, Harbaugh announced he would directly coach QBs…and he transferred.
https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/bigten/2021/02/18/michigan-football-joe-milton-transfer/4491925001/
Clearing the way for their 5-star recruit coming in. I wonder if Harbaugh promised him he would coach him personally to make sure he committed.
Sounds like they’ve struggled to develop and retain QBs they’ve recruited.
Promising starting jobs to highly rated recruits is a poor strategy. We’ve seen speculation here that is happening at UO with Slough(?) transferring.
The best thing to promise in my opinion is fair competitive opportunity, and best player plays. Otherwise, you are likely to attract head cases who may not thrive in a truly competitive environment (either intra-team or inter-team) and have the problems that UM is having.
Players that LOVE to compete tend to pay off.
What a cluster at Mechicken.
I think I’ve seen at least 4-5 defensive transfers out since Don Brown was dismissed.
Machado must read AB, new crystal ball in for Katin Houser
She probably has been since we were talking about boning her.
What?
Mama Ma-HOT-o!
Haha
LOL NiceBeav did she sell you a burrito?
I think it was a fish taco.
Mmmmm….fish tacos…
Did it require a spritz of fresh lime juice?
That’s too funny. I suspect some of her readers frequent this site as well as any other Beaver sites and they message her stuff they read here to see if she can verify.
Maybe I should start my own version of the crystal ball over here.
The Viaceral Gut? (Too redundant?)
I need some ideas
Should read Visceral Gut
Burrito gut
Sweaty Beaver Balls?
“Toothsayer” instead of “Soothsayer?”
MBBeavs overcome horrible shooting, win rebound and turnover battle to beat Utah.
They turned it over too much just not as bad as Utah. I think Utah’s big man left to go play in his home country so that’s probably why they were able to outrebound them. Alatishe had a nice all around game with 19 pts, 7 boards, 4 blocks, 4 assists, and 3 steals.
He was clearly the best player on the floor tonight. Kid has some hops….
Shooting tonight was relatively good, however, there were at least a half dozen wide open dunk/layup opportunities that were botched. Defense was on point, 12 steals and 7 blocked shots, and at least another 10 deflections. Movement and rotation on defense, cut way down on open shots for the Utes. If they play like this the rest of the way, they will be in every game. If they can do that and make their wide open layup opportunities, they can win every game left on the schedule.
Beavs should have won by 25 or more.
4-18 from 3-pt range is pretty bad.
52% from the field in the second half is pretty good.
This has to be a joke right? Why would the Beavs ever want this guy, unless he was being completely misused but the O coordinator (I believe he was) and would be a great pocket passer. Still wouldn’t want him.
