LB Michael Doctor will arrive in Corvallis on January 2nd. He earned the ACT score needed and passed clearinghouse.

Forward Devon Collier signed for Craig Robinson today.

Shaydon Akuna is reportedly taking other trips, but from what I have heard he’s a Beaver. Maybe he wants to see the country.

Ever feel like you can tell if a guy is a player just by looking at a photo? Despite being a zero star recruit, Will Storey does look impressive. Maybe Riley turned another stone afterall.

  1. Owa is going to be in Lincold this weekend to watch Nebraska and K-State. Being a Husker fan and a Beaver fan, I’d love to see him commit to either of these schools. The Beavs REALLY need a guy like this. I’m not very confident though…

    On the hoops note:
As I was watching Singler (Kyle) light up UNCC on ESPN last night I was just thinking how great it would be to have him at OSU. Then he’d be on Campus with his cousin, and helping to lift Taft…I mean OSU out of lethargy! The likes of He and Love don’t come along often, the Beavs need another super all-american in-state guy.

      • Owa seems more open to the Beavers. He was a major Cal lean for months. I don’t see him going to Nebraska…that just makes no sense. I think it’s OSU or Cal right now, with Florida and USC using their prestige to get into the mix late.

  2. Where did you get the word of Shaydon Akuna? Scout has shown him as a promising recruit, but I didn’t hear anything extra.

I agree about Storey. I think he will be an effective redshirt type of guy, give him a year to develop and he could be a beast- or at least a very multi talented guy.

Hey, I was wondering if you noticed something else. I believe that one of the leaders in tackles during the last game was one of the Unga brothers. Interesting indeed.

    • I heard about Akuna from a Santa Barbara connection up at OSU…this was right after his visit.

The only thing I can think is that he’s seeing the country, a theory strengthened by a visit across the country.

  3. I think Akuna and Elisara have always been leaning toward us, and if we’ve already offered Lolohea, his heavy favorite is the Beavs. Owa has always favored Cal, but it sounds like he is giving consideration to Florida and UO also. I certainly wouldn’t begrudge anyone going to Cal for an education, provided they are one of the minority of Cal football players who actually go to school. It sounds like UO is a draw because of their Footlocker managerial training program which goes hand in hand with their practice schedule. And then we’ve got Taula and Vainuku looking at us and UW, and it sounds like Matt Miller is quite impressed with us as well. We’ll probably get three or four of them, but I’m not too worried either way.

I don’t know what to think of recruiting rumors. I’m thinking that some of our greyshirts won’t make it, or the numbers would say we’re done already. I’ve heard that Romaine will greyshirt, and Molesi will come in after a two year mission. Honestly, I would rather have a bunch of LDS missioners than to wait and wish on JC talent to physically manifest. Even though we’ve only had one academic failure in recent years (Perry), the struggle for JC prospects to gain an associate’s gives little hope that they’ll ever make it. I guess there are nine other cincos available for any name-changers out there.

I’m more interested to see how the one need we have is filled–DE. I see promise from Henry, and I hear Rosa can’t be stopped. I think Banker is going old-Nebraska on us by recruiting Gwachum (WR) and converting him to DE. If that’s the case, then recruiting TE’s, LB’s and WR’s makes sense. Ballers at those positions can be made into anything not QB, RB or DT. I’m not saying we should ignore those special players at any position, let alone ignoring recruiting for any position. But it provides depth, and recruiting quality, skilled players with great ball skills leads to a good success rate with skilled coaches.

Good on Doctor for making it. I look forward to seeing him play. Knowing OSU, it won’t take long before we hear corny stupidities like ‘Whoa! Doctor just gave him a physical!’

  4. I know we haven’t moved on to the Wazzu game as such, but did anyone see the rediculous article from Ken Goe in the Sports section of Oregonlive.com? Not only is it a ‘duh, no shit sherlock’, but it’s such a reach to say the Beavers tanking in Pullman would ruin the Big Rose Bowl Civil War showdown. Yes, it would be a downer, but the odds of that happening would have to be less llikely than Oregon Losing to Arizona. Sure the Ducks would not be out of it, but that puts the Duckies hoping for USC to beat ‘Zona and Cal to Beat Standford. Does it not? I’d be looking at that as the most likley Bummer. Also, if the Ducks get beat, it also hangs the Beavers out to dry, hoping for the same USC beating of ‘Zona again. The only difference being that the Ducks still need Cal to Beat Stanford.

    Or…Beavs lose to Cougars.

Which seems more likely? What a pud. Even the comments from the Duck faithful were mostly thinking what I was.

  5. I like the looks of our guys…Lomax is more mobile than I envisioned, Hatfield spears the balls that are in his area, and Storey is a Manimal. Not sure where he will play exactly, but I’m not sure how good his speed is. If he has a motor, it doesn’t matter. He seems like a competitor and would be a good Safety. Sort of in the mold of Sabi?
