What’s up everybody, kill some time til kickoff with a new episode of The Payton Years! We discuss Wayne Tinkle and Ethan Thompson’s comments from media day and give an update on Warith Alatishe’s transfer waiver. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-payton-years/id1536831436 Also 34-21 Beavs. Suck it puppies!
Remember, we are all beaver fans here. Hopefully we can enjoy a good game. I didn’t bet my life on this game and, I don’t HAVE to watch the game if I don’t want to…..
Punt snap over kickers head. Punter picks it up, tries to punt it, basically tackled as he kicked the ball, players everywhere trying to recover the ball. Grant grabs it at the 7 ish and dives in for the td. You need to see a replay.
It reminds me of a few years back when there wasn’t continuity on defense. Players couldn’t rely on the schemes Because not everyone knew their jobs so they just did whatever and couldn’t guess right enough times in a row. I don’t know what they were practicing prior to the season started. It looks really bad.
So UW has 5 down linemen and 2 TE and we stack 2 DL in there…sometimes 3. I wasn’t a math major but not too surprised we’re getting gashed on the ground.
Gotta have more than 2 guys. I know Big Whit is out but they didn’t hardly play Bennet at all or Rawls in that 1st game and haven’t seen them yet this game that I remember.
I wouldn’t mind trying Nolan. Catch u dub off guard with a new qb they didn’t scout for. No tape on him. When the pocket clears he can get you 7 yards. The opportunity are there for gebbia.
And the D line gets zero pressure. And the Online can’t block. Watch the lines dude. 3 guys get zero pressure on the QB and on offense 6 guys can’t block 4.
It’s pretty simple. Overmatched and it’s not even close. This team will be lucky to win a game. Nice recruiting Smith.
2 star coaches recruiting and coaching 2 star talent. Not hard to figure out why the Beavs suck.
Maybe try building and recruiting some lines first instead of position players.
Why would any decently talented player want to come to Corvallis. Losers lose.
Doesn’t help when you have a coaching staff that doesn’t realize this.
Gebbia is holding on to the ball a hair too long. He also is not getting pass pro but his accuracy and indecisiveness are hurting the offense! If JJ is down, Beavs are effed!
Battle of the trenches really the story here. Their O Line manhandling the 2 guys we put out there. Their D Line is in the backfield before Gebbs even gets to his 3rd step. Might not be super exciting but UW would be smart to run the ball and they could run away with this. Pun intended.
Yeah! I’m perplexed about the effort! I understand when someone is better and makes plays but the lack of effort and enthusiasm is on the coaches. Motivation is part of the gig! This team seems flat and/or overwhelmed when adversity hits!
I think part of that is UW is teeing off with a bit of a pass-rush based on tendency! There does need to be an offset plan for when UW starts staying home and stuffing the run though.
Is it just me, or is our offensive play calling super vanilla compared to the last couple years? Gebbia supposedly knows the play book better thsn anyone but it doesn’t seem like we’re using much of it.
This is almost Riley-esque! Everything is straight drop back. Why not roll the pocket a bit (to both sides). Get some RPO going but also keep the pressure of the OLine. Very vanilla.
There’s plays available in the passing game consistently but Gebbia is so bad. If he is the best option available, that’s a massive blunder for the coaching staff
So if a person turns on the game now and sees 24-21 At half knowing we get the ball first, I think they’d say that’s pretty good. Both sides of the ball are looking better.
The adjustments will tell a lot about this staff! This UW team is not as good as WSU. Force their QB to throw to beat you (Load the box). They’re (UW) not going to destroy the Beavs throwing the football, especially with effective pressure.
Yes, adjustments. JS said before last week that he prefers getting the ball after the half cause he uses the half to make adjustments. Seems you’d make adjustments on both sides of the ball at the half but he especially mentioned offensive adjustments to start the second half.
Although, seems he’s made adjustments already when he began to emphasize JJ after the first series (or two?).
Anyone’s game indeed! Need balanced time of possession or heavy to O.
Halftime and only 24-21, not as bad as I was expecting. I dumped the cable, and it’s nice to be listening to Mike Parker on the radiocast again. A much-appreciated slice of good old Corvallis normalcy and familarity.
Yeah it looks like he’s trying too hard and pressing too much. Looked like he got happy feet on that dump off to Jefferson. He backed peddled way too much when he could have stepped up in the pocket and maybe looked down field.
This is like Hawaii last year. Luton was clearly a deer in headlights. They needed to make a change. Same situation here. Give him one more series at most, but as of now he’s holding us back from a win.
He runs a little taller then ken. I think he could avoid being knocked over more offen if he was a little lower. And he follows his blocks longer then ken did. Other then that very similar.
The backup Chance needs some time! The Beavs will have to push the ball downfield to win this game. Otherwise, UW will load the box and force Gebbia to win it with his arm (assuming the Beavs score here?!)! Plus, it’s good to know what you have as a backup.
How can they not see that his body (let alone the ball) was clearly over?! We’ll see, does JS have a spine here to at least challenge? He should be outraged!
The refs changed this game regardless of what happens here on out.. they have to get help from booth there and Niner needs to do more to fight for his team right there. You can’t let that happen on back to back plays. Nick Saban would have literally killed someone if the refs tried to pull some shit like that on Bama
On that punt coverage, is the UW player allowed to cross into the end zone and then come back to down the ball? Wouldnt they be considered out of bounds? Too layte to really care, but i didnt think he established himself in bounds before touching the ball.
Correct, we’re going against a better line and the refs. Just take the points and try to win it later. Anxious, greedy, degenerate mindset to go there.
Couple things: Gebbia is out of his own head right now; throwing into tight coverage and inaccurate in general and 2) Not sure Taylor is the guy you want o design a play around (IMO).
I’ve only seen a little bit of Z Beason and he is a stud! Bradford and Champ are the other two that should be the clutch guys (as WRs) IMO.
So J Irish seems to be a bust! Can’t see the field (fastest guy on the team) as a Junior? Missing some of these studs we’ve been hearing about?! RB is really thin too. Yikes!!
I want coaches who you can tell, just by watching them, are burning with a desire to win and protect their team, which is often the same thing. Erickson, Casey, for example.
especially after that second spot. 15 yard unsportsmanlike on the coach at the spot on the field puts it at the UW 18. show some fight for cryin out loud.
Big fan of Madden and that philosophy. I like going for it on 4th late in the game. The great thing about that is you narrow down all the variables. Early in the game there are way more “choose your own adventures” and you have no clue what path the game will take, but late in the game you know, and you can play those narrow variables to your favor more.
Who knows what to think! The conference is horrible as a whole! There are definitely no playoff contenders. This is as bad as it’s ever been (in the conference) that I can remember.
It sounds like there was a review that happened during the extensive commercial break, but Petro and Faust provided no color about it when they were finally back on air.
Here’s how good this coaching staff is. In the past 8 days given Nick Rolovich and Jimmy Lake their first PAC-12 win in their first try. Sleep well losers, I mean Beavers.
Hate to say it but UW played this well! Kick the FG, just over a minute left and you know the opp (Beavs) have no chance to drive and score. There needs to be some changes on offense and defense to compete!
Excuse me, but I’ve been a Beaver fan since the late 80’s first off. I’m objective, so what! UW did play that situation well! They did what they had done most of the game, run the football early (kill time) and hit the 3rd down with the underneath throw. Waiting to kick the FG was a good call rather than going for it (to try and secure a TD+ lead) because the Beavs couldn’t manage more than 100 yards passing the whole game. I wasn’t referring to the first half, it was specifically at the end of the game (one of the last UW drives).
“Refs don’t completely miss spot back to back first downs and beavers are winning with 5 to go.” Listen, one thing as a former coach and player of this great game I have learned is that one or two plays and/or players don’t win or lose the game for you! Were the calls bullshit? Yes! I said so earlier (where’s your quote of that?)! But don’t blame that one spot call for the loss here. There were far more opportunities to win than just that point and time in the game!
Isn’t this actually called “AngryBeavs”, in the land of the free?! First, you’re not gonna sway me to leave because you don’t like my posts. Don’t like them? Ok! Don’t read ’em lol. I’ll survive! But don’t question my love or allegiance to this team! Been through Pettibone and some amazing years up through the Riley Era and all the way current!
I apologize for misreading, and trust you are a beaver fan then. I had my doubts when I read “thin at rb” above, and it’s clearly one of the strongest positions on the team. But otherwise we can disagree on our opinions. I think indeed a call like that can change the outcome of the game, not only on the blown call and resultant TD but momentum change as well . And I think the beavers had plenty of chance to make it on the final drive. And being “competitive” is not even worth arguing.
Under 50% completion and under 100 yards passing. That has to be the worst QB performance in the past 30 years. Even Seth the great had better stats than that. Hell he could at least hurdle someone.
Let’s not forget that Gebbia is “Riley approved” lol. That is unsettling in itself. I will say that not all of the issues are on Gebbia. The O-Line has not been great either but Gebbia is indecisive and inaccurate. He’s missing that “it” factor IMO. Some have it (like de Laura) and some are just average! Chance Nolan needs to get a shot though.
Gebbia was good vs Oregon, and he was good vs WSU after early issues. But this was so bad he needs to sit for a while and figure it out. Somehow he got the bad habit of being fidgety in the pocket.
86 yards passing folks. No attempt to ever run for a first down when the pocket opened up. If Nolan can’t throw better than gebbia, try gulbranson. No wonder the offense is boring. Gebbia can’t throw the darn ball. Fun night.
Does the Pac-12/OSU require mandatory eye tests? Not just han eye chart but peripheral vision, color blindness, depth perception? I seriously wonder about Gebbia.
Chance should at least get a series next game (assuming there is a game)! Gebbia is not getting it done. But there are a other issues that still need to be fixed. We all need to come to grips that UW is not very good! Very disappointing.
I think the Beavs o-line was fine with run blocking, even impressive. The defense got gashed too much on run defense, but they were on the field a lot also.
Score reflects a 6 pt loss but this was way worse than that. Run defense is terrible and o line didn’t appear to be able to pass block and Gebbia was awful when he did have some time to throw. It’s unfortunate that we’ve regressed but yet supposedly have more talent than we’ve had in years. Being perennial bottom dwellers is tiring.
Yea to be so passive while getting screwed was hard to watch. Someone needed to cuss the refs out on 3rd down! Not absolutely losing your shit about the 3rd down spot is how 4th down happened. It looked like on both plays UW yanked the ball and Munchie back after he cross the line to gain and refs were like ok.
Rashad better start getting his shit together or he’s going to have to play next year just to try to prove he has NFL level talent. Now two games of missed tackles and being out of position. Zero impact on the game.
Beavs give up more 3rd and 18s than anyone else. Didn’t agree with the targeting call but why are you in that situation of needing a big hit to prevent a 1st down and allowing the QB to scamper that far. Then Genbia should have run for the 1st down on 2nd down. He would have made it unless refs jobbed is on another spot. That back in the flat looked like was open multiple times but somehow need to do a quick look off and hit him. Gebbi always ignored him and was busy looking at everyone else who was covered well. What sucks is we usually play pretty flat at home for the last 5+ years. So much for F King Alexander bringing a winning football culture as OSU President. I want to win but progress has been so slow. Saps the life out of fans. Incredibly frustrating. Refs changed the game with the poor spots though. Would have been a great back and forth game to finish with whoever execute better winning. That is what both teams deserved in what was a hard fought contest to that point. Then the refs cheapened it.
Sucks living in TN and staying up to 1:30 to watch us get screwed over by the refs. I agree angry on the other 4th down calls but this was the right call tonight.
Gebbia should have ran on 2nd down, had a lane and with the clock stopping on a first downs always take it.
One of the biggest lessons of this game (football) is how to respond to adversity. Games are not decided on just one or two plays. In fact, most coaches (worth a damn) would argue that 5 or so plays could be altered to change (adversity) the outcome of any game! The call tonight absolutely sucked! It should be reviewed again and penalties on those refs should be enforced but… that’s not why the Beavs lost! How many 3rd downs did UW convert? How about the Beavs? Change a couple of those (on either side) and who knows what happens?!
Let’s say the Beavs get the call and score a TD with 3 plus minutes left (now ahead by 4) do you think UW would have had a lot of troubles driving the field to score a TD in 3 minutes? We’ll never know, but objectively, I’d say “no”. Washington mostly did what they wanted on offense and their QB was below average at best! Their trench players were better and they made plays when they needed them, pretty simple!
This game really falls on Gebbia. Smith needs to take some heat for not challenging the spot on that 4th down play; going for it was the right decision, though.
The offense was able to run the ball. That has not happened against Washington since at least 2012. With that said, there was absolutely no reason why Gebbia should have had less than 150 yards passing. He missed on some critical throws throughout the game. He did not use his tight ends enough, who had a clear size advantage. Most importantly, he did not take advantage of the 5-10 yards that he could have easily scrambled for throughout the game.
Defense did a phenomenal job considering the fact that they were on the field for the first ten minutes of the game. They were stout against the run in the 2nd half. They couldn’t generate much pressure, but they were able to limit the passing game in the red zone. Like last year against UW, they showed up.
That’s a pretty good take on the game and agree with your points. However, I think that 3rd down challenge is arguable. If things went as it should have, we shouldn’t even be talking about it. He went for it on 4th and technically got the first down until the refs blew it.
Wilner’s tweet: “#GoBeavs AD Scott Barnes and HC Jonathan Smith should ask for an explanation from the conference on the failed fourth-down conversion. Unless there was an angle we didn’t see, that call looked egregious”
But, as Beaver26 said above, it never comes down to only one or two plays.
This is the first time I have posted so I hope my opinion can be welcomed here!
I think that are defense showed some improvement especially compared to the last few years. I think for the time being Nolan would be the better QB as he seems to be a more polished passer than Gebbia.
In college football I believe challenges are worthless as the booth reviews anything anyways so I don’t think you can blame the blatantly missed call on Smith.
That said we had a similar situation to what USC has had the last 2 weeks and we didn’t convert. While we have a good run offense, our passing game needs some development. This could be improved with better QB play and better WR play. Having Harrison would definitely help as he would provide a reliable target downfield and it would help to have a QB that could reliably throw a pass 20 yards downfield.
Even with the horrible job of the refs there is room for improvement and I have to be impressed that we stayed in a game with U DUB especially after the last few years
On board with trying Nolan. However, I don’t know if he is a polished passer because I haven’t seen him in a college game. Yes he played jc and has highlights but nothing guaranteed once he faces the big boys. I am not holding my breath Smith makes a change, just like I didn’t hold my breath the refs would review that spot of the call last night.
Just watched on DVR…
WE GOT TOTALLY FUCKED ON THOSE TWO SHIT SPOTS ON THE GOAL LINE!!!!!!
Gebbia sucks. I see why he got beat out at Neb. Scatter arm with NO pocket presence. Every throw was off. WTF?
D made a huge leap as did the O line.
This should have been a win. Luck O da f’ing Beavs!
There was a throw in the 4th quarter where Gebbia was out of the pocket and he threw down the sideline. In real-time, I thought he was just trying to throw the ball away, but on replay, the receiver was wide open and Gebbia threw it ten feet over his head. I was thinking many college QB’s can make that low throw on a line so the receiver can catch it on the sideline. I guess he was decent against Oregon last year because he had no time to think about it?
Go first!
I mean Beavs!
Beavs suck.
Dawgs go up 38-0 before they put the scrubs in and win 48-10.
Only watching for the comedic factor. Play yakkity sax over the broadcast when the Beavers are on defense.
Trump lost get over it!
Cool story.
Beavs still suck.
Like your leach for a brain….(sucking noises…..sllleeeelllppp)
Crrrrryyyyy some more babby boy. Here comes the ass pounding
Why? Picked to finish dead last in the conference. They only thing more depressing than the football program is men’s basketball.
….and your comments!
Truth hurt?
Insults all you got because I’m right? Weak ass sauce.
Losers gonna lose!
You clearly speak from experience.
So says the beaver fan.
Lmao!
You’re not Beaver fan anymore?
We’re all very sick people
Your life obviously.
Remember, we are all beaver fans here. Hopefully we can enjoy a good game. I didn’t bet my life on this game and, I don’t HAVE to watch the game if I don’t want to…..
Are we?
So who is out from OSU because of COVID19?
Morris tested positive.
Tv line up showed morris starting haha
I thought I heard his name, but a newspaper we can’t mention said he was positive.
And you trusted that newspaper to tell the truth? Omfg! I’m dying here!!!!!
Relax buddy. Just sharing what I found. Guy with KEZI was saying the same thing.
UW 27 OSU 10 is my prediction
I haven’t laughed that much at a touchdown in awhile.
What happened?
High snap on UW punt results in Grant carrying in less than 12yds for a TD, nice block by Bradford
Punt snap over kickers head. Punter picks it up, tries to punt it, basically tackled as he kicked the ball, players everywhere trying to recover the ball. Grant grabs it at the 7 ish and dives in for the td. You need to see a replay.
That was crazy
Cue yakety sax!
Is that the benny hill song? That’s what I was hearing in my head during that play.
Looks like Hamilcar is still lining up at DE. Not the ideal spot for him. C’mon Tibs.
Grant and Omar came to play!
Did our special-teams center switch teams to Washington?
Cold, really cold.
Terrible PI call
Pack 12 officials already doing a good job screwing us.
Refs always screwing the Beavs. Lol
actually, they had 14 men on the field
Thought Julian had a really good camp, etc. Why is Arnold still getting the run time? He’s struggling already this week.
Smith – bad personnel decisions.
Let’s see if we can up that avg per carry for the opposing teams running back. I think last week it was around 10.
Seems like when we get a stop, ref throws a flag and gives them a first down. Than the wheels fall off. I feel like that’s a theme
Yeah I’ve noticed that since 1995 or so
Yeah our DLine is way too small.
What’s the O lines excuse?
Beaver defense remembered they’re the Beavers. Expect more of that ground pound. Here comes the boom!
….in your mouth!
At least we have a punter.
I fear we’ve already seen all we need to know about this game, notwithstanding the score
I’m beginning to think our guys are cross eyed. It’s like they see two people and they aim for the one on the left when trying to tackle.
It reminds me of a few years back when there wasn’t continuity on defense. Players couldn’t rely on the schemes Because not everyone knew their jobs so they just did whatever and couldn’t guess right enough times in a row. I don’t know what they were practicing prior to the season started. It looks really bad.
3rd downs continue to kill us! Offensively and Defensively! Screen on 3rd down is archaic! Let’s go Beavs!
Oh yeah, this is going to be an absolute beatdown.
Losing the edges!
So UW has 5 down linemen and 2 TE and we stack 2 DL in there…sometimes 3. I wasn’t a math major but not too surprised we’re getting gashed on the ground.
There’s no depth at DT. That’s the reality
Over/Under on rushing yards At 300 for the dawgs.
Already close to 150 and plenty of game left. Think the over is the safe bet here.
Gotta have more than 2 guys. I know Big Whit is out but they didn’t hardly play Bennet at all or Rawls in that 1st game and haven’t seen them yet this game that I remember.
UW on pace for 400 yards rushing.
the Huskies o-line has what, a 20 pound per man advantage vs their OSU opposite?
Probably more like 40.
Average of our starting 3 is 278.
Defense is already done
Yup, on the field for three drives already. They’re gonna be gassed by mid second quarter.
And spending too much time on the field.
Adjustments must be made. Holy shit!
Adjustments won’t make up for a severe lack of D-Line personnel
That dude needs to be rerouted going across the middle! Cheap completion! Get your hands on receivers, disrupt timing. This QB is pedestrian!
concur. This is the first first-time freshman QB starter that hasn’t ripped us apart (yet)
You’re going to jinx it. He’s gonna go off now.
Last time they did that we got a 15 yard PI. I’ve received high fives harder than that contact.
this as Anderson level Offensive play. just atrocious
I wouldn’t mind trying Nolan. Catch u dub off guard with a new qb they didn’t scout for. No tape on him. When the pocket clears he can get you 7 yards. The opportunity are there for gebbia.
10 -7 calm down spaz.
17-7
17-7
OMG
Kipper is a major liability! Physical specimen! Not a great RT!
Mark it 0.. and 7
probably. but we’ll still be bowl eligible.
Actually Larry says PAC team needs to be over 50% win rate to be eligible.
So dumb. Turning down free money
Gebbia is holding on to the ball a hair too long. He also is not getting pass pro but his accuracy and indecisiveness are hurting the offense! If JJ is down, Beavs are effed!
Probably turn it on in 2nd half, again. No thanks.
Battle of the trenches really the story here. Their O Line manhandling the 2 guys we put out there. Their D Line is in the backfield before Gebbs even gets to his 3rd step. Might not be super exciting but UW would be smart to run the ball and they could run away with this. Pun intended.
Just because a guy doesn’t have his hand in the dirt doesn’t mean he’s not a dl. But ya they’re getting beat by alignment.
I get that but last week and about 50% of the time this week so far that person is Hamilcar.
(Go Ducks)
Okay we suck. No more Pac title talk. :D
Might be time for fire Smith talk soon.
0-7 will make that happen for sure.
No it won’t. They’ll give the prodigal son several years of failure before shit canning him.
Dunn stands in the endzone and watches a TD happen right in front of himself without any effort to make dawgs work at all.
Yeah! I’m perplexed about the effort! I understand when someone is better and makes plays but the lack of effort and enthusiasm is on the coaches. Motivation is part of the gig! This team seems flat and/or overwhelmed when adversity hits!
Too late to bring Anderson back?
Just put out a free beer sign
People don’t get that rosacea on the cheeks from beer. Its 80 proof or bust.
Rehab cleaned him up but the cheer coach still might have something
Callan says Jermar is OK.
Now the question is will Beavs use him?
Oh yeah, another KO return starting at the one. Sheesh!
Husky tackler toying with Champ; toting him like a rag doll. Too bad Angry isn’t about to see that
Irish, Lindsay and Stewart must be sitting out. The WR group makes zero sense.
I saw Lindsey out there just now.
Well that’s good. I wonder if he still has the dropsies or something. Seems impossible that Taylor and Flemmings are bigger threats.
Well he’s only a little fella
What’s really sad is that UW doesn’t look very imposing at all! They’re just way better than the Beavs in the trenches. That’s sad!
Finally, JJ two carries in a row=24yds
Make that 3 in a row for 40 yds total
Oline looks decently comfortable run blocking. Need work pass blocking.
I think part of that is UW is teeing off with a bit of a pass-rush based on tendency! There does need to be an offset plan for when UW starts staying home and stuffing the run though.
Go Beavs!
Ha Ha! Peter Sirmon (former Duck) has both sons playing at UW! Ouch!!
And Alex Molden’s kid.
And how they doin so far? Lol
Any Lindsey sightings?
NB spotted him
Actually had a nice block on the TD run.
She was spotted at izzys buffet
Screw the pass, run every doqn
Aaaaaaaaand Jefferson goes down.
Yeah, I thought that was the Colletto zone. Why run jefferson into a wall?
Popadickus ‘someone pulled his arm’
No shit.
Forget Gebbia, put it on the running backs and kick some ass
Need some horizontal run game here! JJ can’t do this by himself! Where are Irish, Beason, Lindsey with some fly?!
There you go.
Okay okay, Pac title talk back on the table!
Haha.
I love that drive. That is all.
Helps to have a great O-line coach! At away Coach M!
Watch Gebbia look more relaxed with some nice throws at the end of the 2nd Q
Is it just me, or is our offensive play calling super vanilla compared to the last couple years? Gebbia supposedly knows the play book better thsn anyone but it doesn’t seem like we’re using much of it.
Could be an OLine issue too.
You have to go back to before Locker for a UW QB this bad, relatively speaking.
That dude could run though.
not through Al Afalava!
I can still hear that hit.
D gets a 3 and out!
Amazing
Not really, that QB helped them…
Both bad throws he was about to get nailed.
Like the pressure. You don’t always need sacks to be effective everytime. That puts something in the back of their QB’s mind.
Need some play action…..action.
We need a QB with big hands.
Petros is much less flustered this week with smaller hands on the field.
Kipper needs to be pulled.
Gebbia no pocket presence
I think Gebbia has no peripheral vision.
Sweet coverage guys
Where the fuck is Hamilcar?
Draft stock is tanking!
They said he was injured at the end of camp and had limited action last week. Might still be a problem.
Dude, where’s my car?
Who? Peaked too soon
This is almost Riley-esque! Everything is straight drop back. Why not roll the pocket a bit (to both sides). Get some RPO going but also keep the pressure of the OLine. Very vanilla.
3rd down! Let’s see?!
Bennett huge on both those stops. Very nice to see.
So defense not great. But dawgs have had th e ball after two fumbles and a long punt return. Offense not helping the defense at all.
Flemmings broke contact!!!
Haha!
Double move from a WR?!?!
this team is Jekyll and Hyde on offense
Doesn’t take Sherlock or Watson to see why.
Gebbia tries to get Musgrave killed
Musgrave nice catch with his hands and then hangs on when hit!
Lindsay with a good catch on a bad throw
Another bad throw by Gebbia, behind Musgrave
Ugh
Yeah if he could throw 5 feet ahead of his current targeting guys would be running wild.
There’s plays available in the passing game consistently but Gebbia is so bad. If he is the best option available, that’s a massive blunder for the coaching staff
Doug Downer chimes in.
Is that like a male Karen being a Daren?
Richard.
I dont understand how our online can do so well with the run blocking but so shitty at pass blocking.
It’s really not that uncommon. We had the opposite problem for years when Mannion was qb.
When Mannion was QB smilin’ Jack focused the O on getting him stats, not on winning games.
True but our oline also had an average push of -1 yards.
Absorbing hits vs. laying the wood
Absolutely love scoring in the last couple minutes of the half!
Nice, and we get the ball after halftime.
Setup for an upset.
This is important! I really wish the offense didn’t need a full half to warm-up! I’ll be honest, I would like to see Chance for a series.
What the????
JJ is very good.
He’d be better if he had a fullback.
Beavs showing some spunk.
Creampie
Circle Jerks
Hope they didn’t blow their load in the first half
Maybe coach smith can have our guys tuck their shirts in at halftime.
If you need something to do at the half, go in the prior thread and watch the beaver video I posted. That thing is aces.
They’re goofy animals.
“He’s been so busy”
No Challenge???
I think forward progress was stopped.
So if a person turns on the game now and sees 24-21 At half knowing we get the ball first, I think they’d say that’s pretty good. Both sides of the ball are looking better.
Although I want to agree, part of it is the different competition. Not that WSU is great, just a different match-up. But WSU is better IMO.
I was meaning after the shitty shitty first quarter. But yes.
Ok that was a strange ending!
The adjustments will tell a lot about this staff! This UW team is not as good as WSU. Force their QB to throw to beat you (Load the box). They’re (UW) not going to destroy the Beavs throwing the football, especially with effective pressure.
Anyone’s game!
Time to move on from beer to Makers Mark
Halftime and only 24-21, not as bad as I was expecting. I dumped the cable, and it’s nice to be listening to Mike Parker on the radiocast again. A much-appreciated slice of good old Corvallis normalcy and familarity.
You can stream on streameast.live if you want to watch the game.
Apparently Fresno state beat Anderpants today, wonder who MMcM was rooting for
Andersen got canned last week, so he avoided this L
No shit. Poor guy. Guess its back to tinder for him
Grindr
Ha ha, anderpants wasn’t beaten….on the field.
Apparently you didn’t get the memo, Andersen got fired last week.
Holy shit, there was a memo?
Delivered by the captain of the cheerleading squad.
Wow. You’re a Dumbass
When did we go from Beavers to Beavs on jerseys?
Cost cutting measure
Need to keep doing what was working and run it down their throats.
I miss Luton
I’m ready to give Nolan a shot.
Same here. No wonder there were concerns of his accuracy in camp… Nolan hopefully has a better grasp of the playbook by now.
I don’t get it. Gebbia is playing below his ability for some reason. Looks fidgety.
Yeah it looks like he’s trying too hard and pressing too much. Looked like he got happy feet on that dump off to Jefferson. He backed peddled way too much when he could have stepped up in the pocket and maybe looked down field.
I don’t remember seeing that on film or vs the Ducks. Did he develop this shitty habit? Someone in the media should ask.
How was that not roughing the kicker? wtf?
Perrera says it should
Have been. What crap
This telecaster thinks the Beavs will re-kick after Washington ran into the kicker? Where’d they find this guy, at Gary Andersen’s bar & grill?
Someone questioned Gebbia’s peripheral vision. I’m beginning to think he’s color-blind – at least between purple and white.
This is like Hawaii last year. Luton was clearly a deer in headlights. They needed to make a change. Same situation here. Give him one more series at most, but as of now he’s holding us back from a win.
Here goes a third down! These are HUGE!
Too easy!
Our defense just likes playing so much, they don’t want to get stops on 3rd down.
Makers Mark isn’t helping, weird
Third down again lol. Here we go!
Holy Fuc#!
Omar is a player, still wondering what happened to Hamilcar?
UW is milking the clock! They hit the slant almost every 3rd down! Eye roll
So many 3rd down conversions.
It’s that patented bend but DO break D
Looks like a game clinching type drive to me. Milking clock, converting 3rds, breaking Beav hearts.
Was waiting for the flag on 3rd down. Refs must have forgotten their role?
Good stop, now if the offense can get a qb on the field…
Omar Speights is a hole filler according to Petros
Big hands. Hole filler. Someone check his browser history.
Wink wink, nudge nudge
Yeah. This is apparent! UW is doig whatever they want, whenever they want. This is smart by them. Long, drawn out drive, TOP is huge.
No possible way the Beavs win this one! Sorry ppl.
3 pt game?
Stats mught be one sided but just need 1 play to break our way
Defense stepped up big time. Offense needs a 6-7 minute drive of their own.
Beavs D been in for some 55 plays, the O? Just over 30
Every second that the defense can stay off the field, the better.
The year of the missed FG?
Take a Chance!
Hey NiceBeav, that was that bend but don’t break D. ;)
Glad they proved you right instead of me
Offense needs a passing element
it seems the only teams with consistently good kickers, generation to generation, are the Arizona schools
Does petras smoke a lot of cigars?
He smokes something
Gebbia: 6/13 40 yards
Yuck
But Angry says he’s legit.
It was 50.
Oh, sorry, clearly a baller
JJ has twice as many yards as Gebbia.
it’s been so long; does Jefferson remind anyone of Ken Simonton the way he runs? I’m not sure; just asking.
Yvenson Bernard comes to mind. Absolute workhorse.
He runs a little taller then ken. I think he could avoid being knocked over more offen if he was a little lower. And he follows his blocks longer then ken did. Other then that very similar.
Colletto time?
I say feed munchi (Jefferson)
Yup, twice
Ha ha! Notice he hasn’t seen the field much today? He seemed to be on the field ALOT vs WSU. That wasn’t a good thing (especially on D) IMO
Not sure I understand the point of the double motion lol! But JJ brings his own blocker, so….
Watching the defense shift. It gives away who has who.
I swear that quarter only took 25 minutes of real clock time to play
“They’re not used to getting pushed around”
Uh oh, if they can’t convert this 3rd down, does Smith go for the lead/1st on 4th down, or go for the tie?
FG
That was a pretty weak spot. Looked like he had it
agreed.
The backup Chance needs some time! The Beavs will have to push the ball downfield to win this game. Otherwise, UW will load the box and force Gebbia to win it with his arm (assuming the Beavs score here?!)! Plus, it’s good to know what you have as a backup.
go for it
Assume the score here! Really want to see the defense step afterwards!
“up”
What the fuck? No way that was short.
Twice he made first downs.
Yup, and the ball is advanced to the 5yd line for the dawgs start. Zebras had the chain and should know where to place the ball.
Wow. What’s up with no replay of either spot?
Two consecutive bulls hit spots. I’d challenge the spot.
Shitty spot
No replay?
BS! That is BS!!
That’s ridiculous…refs the 12th man yet again.
It’s always the refs
That’s why you kick the FG there, though…
Does Smith ever challenge?
How can they not see that his body (let alone the ball) was clearly over?! We’ll see, does JS have a spine here to at least challenge? He should be outraged!
They mafe it On 3rd AND 4th…
What absolute horseshit.
This is an outrage!
Beavs got absolutely screwed on that spot. Pac 12 refs are the worst in country and they keep proving it.
These announcers are terrible. Did they formally review the play or not?
Even Bynum thought that was going to be picked.
Smith says nothing
Learned under Riley…
Disgusting.. that this is even allowed
I’m thinking you can’t challenge spots, but I’m not sure.
From my understanding, they’re supposed to review it on any play that is controversial (especially on a turnover type situation)?!
You can in the nfl
Per JS, he was told “it is being looked at” so didn’t feel the need to challenge
Beavers got jobbed back to back horrible spots.
Bahahaha. It’s always the refs isn’t it
Sometimes coaches should blow up to put boundaries on refs
That’s why Dennis Erickson was such a great coach. You have to object to being jobbed.
Agree. Smith was too nice.
They said spot confirm when they first got back break
Game over, I understand going for it, need more than 3 pts to win this game, but can’t beat Washington and the refs
you can see what a polished machine Chris Peterson ran.
FINALLY! A 3rd down stop!!
Pac 12 refs such.
Now a long drive with a FG at the end would win it. Sad we don’t know to take points when you can get ’em.
I disagree as you’re on the road and controlling the LOS and had two FD and bad spots negated both.
Crybaby swammi. Beavs 0-2. Some things never change
The refs changed this game regardless of what happens here on out.. they have to get help from booth there and Niner needs to do more to fight for his team right there. You can’t let that happen on back to back plays. Nick Saban would have literally killed someone if the refs tried to pull some shit like that on Bama
I could see the refs calling that a safety
Petros with a nice shot at the refs
hey better hurry here!
big 3rd downplay here.
On that punt coverage, is the UW player allowed to cross into the end zone and then come back to down the ball? Wouldnt they be considered out of bounds? Too layte to really care, but i didnt think he established himself in bounds before touching the ball.
Looked like he caught the ball in the air after jumping out of the end zone
Right? In that scenario he’s still considered out of bounds and it should be a touchback, no?
That’s what i saw. Don’t know the rule.
That sailed high!
Missed facemask on Molden too. Sheesh…refs just want to go home
Wow, should have been two PI flags.
Imagine if it was tied right now…
Woulda been nice, but we have a degenerate gambler at HC.
The odds are never in our favor. Should be obvious by now
Correct, we’re going against a better line and the refs. Just take the points and try to win it later. Anxious, greedy, degenerate mindset to go there.
9 out of 10 coaches go for it there. In fact, we know, he did get the first down. it just wasn’t marked that way.
Doesn’t do me much good as a fan. Beavs are always playing the refs, too, and it should be factored in.
Oh good grief. Quit blaming the refs. What a joke. Takes some accountability for a shitty coach and even worse QB
we’d lose in OT
man. you can just see another heart breaker in Seattle shaping up. Just like ’98, 2000, 2010, 2012.
Refs hate us.
need a turnover.
We’re at that stage of the game. Haha. Next is “just need two stops, three turnovers, and five two point conversions and we go this!”
Maybe Hodges saw gebbia and decided peace out I’m heading to the league.
Pac 12 needs Washington to win this game.
Need to keep passing, don’t use the effective part of the offense
Time is the enemy now!
Beavs git fucked. Empirically.
Damn! Gotta admit, even if there’s a stop. I don’t have faith in our offense to drive down the field to score!
go for it here or punt?
So J Irish seems to be a bust! Can’t see the field (fastest guy on the team) as a Junior? Missing some of these studs we’ve been hearing about?! RB is really thin too. Yikes!!
I want coaches who you can tell, just by watching them, are burning with a desire to win and protect their team, which is often the same thing. Erickson, Casey, for example.
Smith not looking that part.
concur.
Agree 100%, but looks like a couple serial downvoters are in attendance. Maybe just fat fingers?
It’s Ova!
It’s amazing it was this close Given the difference in resources…
Really? Still playing the resources excuse?
I’d like to see Smith just go off at least once when we are getting shafted by the refs. PAC-12 refs should just be quarantined for life.
especially after that second spot. 15 yard unsportsmanlike on the coach at the spot on the field puts it at the UW 18. show some fight for cryin out loud.
Dang, if only we somehow had 3 more points, we’d be in this still.
Just imagine 1st and goal
Should have gotten it on 3rd down if you wanted that. If they stop you there, you kick it. I’d like to play J. Smith in chess.
They got it on 3rd and 4th down tho. Refs conveniently forgot what forward progress was
You must be a follower of John Madden, he always said take the points that are in front of you if it’s a close game and time is not a factor yet.
Madden also said if the ball touches any part of your hand you should catch it, but of course “stick um” was legal back then! Madden is the best!
Smiths chart should have a fudge factor for Larry Scott’s refs.
I feel like i jinxed it as soon as i asked what to do. But i’ve seen too many beavs games to know this is the way
That was a beast tackle
Who knows what to think! The conference is horrible as a whole! There are definitely no playoff contenders. This is as bad as it’s ever been (in the conference) that I can remember.
Gebbia not looking the part either no?
That’s why you play Rawls more.. whoever was asking last time
Hopefully, next week; there is a game and the game is before 7:30 pm?!
yes.. 12 30 start
We should quit watching because of this bullshit.
if this targeting goes against us I’m going to blow a fuse.
Targeting my ass!
It’s totally targeting
Clean your glasses
What a terrible broadcast. Refs go to review for targeting and instead of showing a replay FS1 goes to break.
These guys can’t even play friggin football anyone… targeting.
Fuck
i’m going to bed.
We’re fucked on this call…
Refs gift this game away. Pathetic!!!!
BIG JIM doesn’t hesitate to call out zebra incompetence
The Fox announcers were chuckling like it’s somehow funny that the Beavers got screwed and then the buffoons provided no insight into what happened.
Petros texts Parker that he’s never seen worse, must have bitten his tongue when on air.
It sounds like there was a review that happened during the extensive commercial break, but Petro and Faust provided no color about it when they were finally back on air.
Still blaming the refs. How pathetic is that. Lmao
Unreal lol…
Fuck the Pac-12. Beavs should go independent.
They should go FCS. Might be competitive
Liberty’s independent, and they’re 8-0
And they’re also not Oregon St. and have a better coach.
Here’s how good this coaching staff is. In the past 8 days given Nick Rolovich and Jimmy Lake their first PAC-12 win in their first try. Sleep well losers, I mean Beavers.
Why are you here?
We are the door mat
Truth sucks huh? 5 down votes? Why do you guys continue to punish yourselves???
Gebbia has negative fan duel points
Smith’s plan for the next <2 minutes is to put his balls in his purse.
He’ll probably kick a FG on 1st down and then try an onside kick.
Wizardry
Hate to say it but UW played this well! Kick the FG, just over a minute left and you know the opp (Beavs) have no chance to drive and score. There needs to be some changes on offense and defense to compete!
No need for your blatantly wrong comments here, go back to your site
What is “my site”? What about my comments is “blatantly wrong”? The fact that you don’t like them?!
1.) Clearly not a beaver fan based on your posts.
2.) “UW played this well” Arguable at best unless you are a homer
3.) “No chance to drive and score” I guess you missed the end of the first half when they scored a touchdown in less time. Huge chance.
4.) “things need to change to compete” compete?! Refs don’t completely miss spot back to back first downs and beavers are winning with 5 to go.
So whatever team you actually root for we don’t need your misinformed comments here.
Go Beavs!
Gebbia blows
Under 50% completion and under 100 yards passing. That has to be the worst QB performance in the past 30 years. Even Seth the great had better stats than that. Hell he could at least hurdle someone.
Probably not 30 years that would take you into the Pettibone era with many a game under 50 yards passing!
Yup. See that last pass? Nailed his offensive lineman right in the helmet.
Angry nailed this one about Gebbia. He’s a gamer.
Gebbia is super disappointing.
So is Smith.
Tough.
I thought he was elite level QB?.. you kept saying all last season he should have been starter
Well he sucks.
It’s sort of weird that after all these years the Beavs are still playing a Riley recruit at the QB position.
Gebbia not the answer at qb. Maybe luton can play an 8th year
LOL
Why. He couldn’t win either
Not only does Gebbia throw to a target two yards in front of the sticks, he hits his own lineman in the head.
On the 3rd down play that was tipped, it looked like Gebbia could have easily run for the first down to at least keep the game alive.
Time for Nolan.
I miss Luton.
Absolutely correct call to go for it on 4th down. You play to win.
Gebbia’s passes still to low..on yo nolan.
Chance should at least get a series next game (assuming there is a game)! Gebbia is not getting it done. But there are a other issues that still need to be fixed. We all need to come to grips that UW is not very good! Very disappointing.
The refs screwed us yet again but honestly UW just plain beat us. They ran all over us and man handled us on both sides of the line.
I think the Beavs o-line was fine with run blocking, even impressive. The defense got gashed too much on run defense, but they were on the field a lot also.
Nolan time, but it doesn’t solve the HC issue.
Benching gebbia would be a plus one for smith
Score reflects a 6 pt loss but this was way worse than that. Run defense is terrible and o line didn’t appear to be able to pass block and Gebbia was awful when he did have some time to throw. It’s unfortunate that we’ve regressed but yet supposedly have more talent than we’ve had in years. Being perennial bottom dwellers is tiring.
Well, if Gebbia is our best QB, we’re not winning many games the next few years.
Smith and crew are teachers and moral leaders, they’re simply NOT FIGHTERS.
I knew a guy who called that type of guys, “pansies who never had to put on an unwashed pair of shorts”, seems to fit.
Pat Casey was a teacher, a moral leader, and a fighter. You CAN have it all in a coach.
Casey’s not the only example; see Rueck. That little gentleman knows when to take a “T” for the team, even when to get fined for speaking the truth.
Rashad better start getting his shit together or he’s going to have to play next year just to try to prove he has NFL level talent. Now two games of missed tackles and being out of position. Zero impact on the game.
Dennis Dodd of CBS agrees with the bad call
https://twitter.com/dennisdoddcbs/status/1327865940713869313
Is Erickson younger then Biden? Then he can still coach. “Come on man!”
Agree need to give Nolan a chance.
If Refs stole the game, then Smith(and staff) are guilty as an accomplice. How much are those timeouts worth after the game is over?
Saving them up for a new bike, like mike
Um. pretty sure they used all their timeouts.. are you saying they shouldnt have used any late or that they burned them to early
Or are you talking about not using one on the bad spot call?
How is Smith an accomplice?? THEY REVIEWED IT and still blew it. Really glad he didn’t blow an unnecessary time out then for no reason.
Seattle Screw Job?
I actually meant the 3rd down play before the 4th down. Baylor clearly made the line to gain.
That’s a pretty good take on the game and agree with your points. However, I think that 3rd down challenge is arguable. If things went as it should have, we shouldn’t even be talking about it. He went for it on 4th and technically got the first down until the refs blew it.
John Milner thought the 4th down call was absolutely terrible as well.
The Beavs also seem to be lacking a deep threat in the passing game. I thought Irish or Gould would be just that.
It’s pass pro they are lacking
Nolan: ‘nothing guaranteed once he faces the big boys.’ The guarantees with Gebbia are?
https://youtu.be/j_pwdypqYb8
These late games always have suspect calls, too much money riding on them. I actually went to bed after the spot was upheld, the fix was in.
Woke up. Still pissed.
You’re a beav fan. Isn’t that your lot in life ?
