This weekend will present an interesting test for the Beavers' pitching staff. Arizona (ranked #5) has legit mashers in Robert Refsnyder, Alex Mejia, and Seth Mejias-Brean. The Beavers have some mashers of their own, though. Tyler Smith has been impressive. I compared him last week to Michael Young of the Rangers. He's somehow become that type of hitter. Conforto and Davis have been excellent, as advertised.

Wetzler, Child, and Fry will get the nods and face Heyer (4-1, 1.23), Wade (3-0, 2.97), and Farris (2-1, 3.94).

This series will come down to which team gets more quality starts, which makes me lean Arizona taking 2 of 3.

Game time is 5:35PT.

  1. Anybody on campus today? Curious what the field conditions are like. They’ve had so much precipitation lately in Corvallis and I tend to think that will have an effect on Arizona’s fielding.

  2. Hager just tweeted that all the snow has been removed. Play ball!

#15 GA Tech pitchers have given up 4 dingers through 7 and trail Boston College 15-7.

  3. I like Beavs chances this weekend. Need some good pitching. Smellycats have played 22 games so far this year and they have given up 6 or more runs in exactly half(11) of those games.

  4. @Beaver_Baseball Today’s lineup: Gordon-CF, Smith-2B, Conforto-LF, Davis-RF, Dunn-SS, Keyes-3B, Barnes-1B, Hayes-DH, Rodriguez-C, Wetzler-LHP

  5. The Beavers’ offense is really on fire right now. Ryan Dunn RB double puts them up 3-1. Time to add some more and give Wetzler a nice lead.

  6. Nice job by Wetzler to throw a shutdown inning. That’s big. Offense gets to go back out there and try and add on to the lead.

    • Yo Angry, are we going to get a football bitching thread soon? That OL situation has losing season
written all over it. All the positivity about baseball is unsettling!

      • Probably since spring ball starts April 3rd.
The OL situation isn’t as bad as it looks. It’ll be bad during the spring, but a freshman or two will probably wind up starting come fall.

  7. Great hit and run there and Hayes gets a single, runners on first and third and 1 out for Jake Rodriguez. Could be a big inning here.

  8. Is Kentucky baseball still undefeated, I stumbled on a story the other day that they started the season 21-0 and swept South Carolina. That sounds semi-legit to me. They don’t have much of a baseball tradition do they?

    • They lost for the first time tonight, in Knoxville against Tennessee, 4-1. They do similar stuff to this every night. Great record until SEC play. By the 2nd and 3rd week they start to fall off and have a mediocre-bad conference record. I don’t expect that to change.

  9. Defense gets Wetzler out of the bases loaded jam and beavs survive the inning giving up only 1 run. Think he might be done for the night.

    • Seems to me he is runnin’ scared, didn’t look balanced on the foul I mentioned. Looks like a real mental/confidence issue; he’ll break out of it……but when.

      • It is all mental. Right now he’s late on the fastball, early on the breaking balls and changeups. Really slumping. He’ll get hot soon, hope it happens tomorrow and Sunday.

  10. Beavers offense hasn’t looked good since the 3rd. Arizona has pitched well but the Beavers haven’t had many good approaches at the plate.

  11. Unlike some, I can’t get down on Parker. Loved his remark when the napkin was picked up from the field, “nothing else should be done with napkins”.

    • I like his game calling. I just get mega bugged by extreme volume changes. And since I pay for the online video, I don’t appreciate the crap between innings that airs on the computer while the radio world is getting commercials. I don’t want commercials, but I also don’t wanna hear Parker harping on his underlings.

  12. This kind of game builds character, will serve these guys well all season. Hard to now picture less than 2 of 3 for the Beavs this series, they’ve got the mo now.

    • Go for the sweep! Games like this really give the guys confidence and with it being at home this could turn into a sweep if Child continues to pitch well and Fry gives them a good start on Sunday. Great to see the team really getting it going.
