  1. Texas ours Strong on their shoulders after 2 wins, upset of #10 Ok. Saved his job for maybe the seaon, but lame. Screw USC, what if Texas got Chi He likes recruiting Texas…

Go beavers! A win today very possible, but concerned about OSU secondary play.

  2. Go Beavs! It’s going to be a telling game for how the rest of the season is going to go, IMHO.

Just hope our defense is up to the task today!

    • Hahaha, my wife and I were just talking about that. It’s entertaining to see the EXACT problems we had here instantly appear in Nebraska.

  3. Collins underthrows Villamin and it’s broken up, then throws a slant behind the WR so he can’t run for the 1st. Noted for posterity.

  4. Angry, before I get spambot blocked again, is there a way to get past that plugin? The captcha just ends up being broken on any browser I try(Chrome and Edge).

  5. Why exactly where the Beavs talking trash? They saw some things they could do versus this D, huh? Might want to take care of your own D before talking about the other team’s.

  6. Fail block on the edge. Why don’t you just hold, they don’t call it.

And why is Nall getting 3 straight carries? I like him, but he’s not very fast, and absolutely not as good as Storm.

  7. Back to back blitzes, and guess what? We stopped them!

Solomon dodged the blitz but doing that stupid spin move made him lose vision of all of his receivers. So it worked out.

  8. Which one of you steam boats claimed Az would have problems scoring against your 2* and unranked players on D?

Let’s see how it plays out! What?

    • So fast. And they dropped way too many people back.

Biggest part of that drive, we gave the defense like a 6 minute break and put some strain on theirs. Imagine a tired defense trying to stop Nall, Storm, and Collins running.

  9. That Nall play on third down was pretty terrible. Was just bad D that let him get away with it. He’s got to hit the hole harder, use his bigger build to his advantage.

  10. I don’t see improvement in the defense. It’s getting worse. How in the fuck does a guy get open by almost 30 yards?

  11. Collins fucked Villamin over bad there. Throwing into 3 defenders and getting your receiver hurt.

Combined with his awful “Reading” on the zone read runs….still not a fan.

  12. Collins intercepted (again). This one he doesn’t get away with. What was I saying about those sloppy throws catching up with him?

Can’t keep throwing bad balls and get away with it. Dude had nine lives.

  13. Well, might get to see some backup QB playing time this game. Or we can just everything out of the wildcat the rest of the year, since there isn’t a Pac-12 caliber QB on the roster anyway.

  14. This is after a bye week, it doesn’t even look like we have a game plan? Did we think we could just show up and win? Seriously? Let’s see how Andersen blames the players this time.

    • That’s my issue.. No game plan on Offense or D.. Pathetic coaching job by all involved.. They get an absolute f for this performance.

  15. Botched extra point by cats negated by lining up on neutral zone. This is SO Riley I’m thinking some Freaky Friday voodoo happened between him and Andersen

  16. “How fast things can change in a heartbeat.” Football commentary at its finest.

Also, fuck Collins. He’s hurt more than helped so far this game. He is the exact type of QB many of us have complained about for years. Fast, can’t throw or read anything. Makes stupid plays because he isn’t a real QB, he just an athlete.

Put the dude at WR, or Wildcat or something. But get someone who can throw in the game.

  17. I’m turning it off. Arizona came to play, and we didn’t.

This loss isn’t on Collins, its on our lack of D.
    Noted for posterity
(p.s. that noted for posterity shit is fucking annoying Angry. It really does nothing to further you point and only succeeds in making you sound like an asshole)

  18. it’s going to take a few years to flush the Riley players and Riley habits out of our team. Arm tackling/hitting instead of tackling, bad blocking, penalties galore.

  19. Collin’s spiral is hilarious. It looks like an oblong turd flushing down the toilet.

Looks like we are going to see what MM can finally do.

    • Well, I never said MM was great. I note them for posterity so I can go back and gather all the notes when people tell me Collins is a legit QB.

I don’t know if MM is legit yet b/c he never plays.

      • He was always going to get a chance. The way Collins plays, there was no way he would go all year without getting hurt. Rverything I’ve of McMaryion doesn’t give me much hope, but I would be glad to be wrong and see him successfully run the offense.

        • I don’t know what to expect since the guy has throw 8 passes ever, half under adverse conditions. He looks like a deer in headlights, but has made a few good throws. We’re about to find out.

  20. I suppose we’ll get to see mcmariyon in the second half hopefully with some adjustments to take him into account. Not that they’re going to come back, but it’ll be interesting to see.

  21. OSU desperately needs more talent, and 2-3 years of real coaching before we stop being a doormat. The next 20 months are going to be rough in the meantime.

  22. Bad blocking.

Does it look like MM is locking onto receivers? I mean, I’m not surprised that a spread read offense can’t find the 3rd WR, but still bad blocking.

  23. Dockery is so bad. Are he and Bolden the two dumbest starters we have? Not only does he not call fair catch, he lets the ball roll 20 yards. And runs beside it, giving a change for a TO.

    • Yes, anyone but Doc on punts and kickoffs. The announcers were saying “well, that just cost the Beavers 15 yards…” after that pitiful decision. Try someone else please but not Guyton. How about Lucas???

Bolden is absolutely terrible. The Cookie Monster – aka LS – said she still believes in VB… I’ve never believed. If Baldwin and staff think he’s great then we’re really in trouble.

      • Everybody knows that “Speed Kills” Have you seen the Utube video on Lucas. Football & Track speed. Video and stats don’t lie.

  24. Give it to Storm, easy first.

That whole “We play Nall because he picks up 3” is incredibly stupid logic. Give me the guy that can go for 40.

  25. Great job my MM on the last 2 plays, working through his progressions and finding the open receiver.

Imagine if MM had played the last 3 games. How far along would he be?

  26. Angry, I’m still getting caught by the spam bot. Not sure if that’s intended. the Captcha works now, so that’s good, but still a bit annoying to have to go through it every 3-4 posts.

    • Are you roaming on a phone or something? I think it’s because your IP keeps changing. That gets flagged as spam. Next time do it again, and I’ll see if I can approve it by email addy instead of ip. Also, register an account if you haven’t. That will help.

  27. Let’s be honest, Riley would’ve just taken two knees and walked into the locker room. I’ll take Andersen over him for that reason alone.

  28. What a pathetic effort post bye week.

If Nall is as fast as they say he is at that weight then let him run off tackle. Running him straight up the gut on 2nd and third down just ain’t gonna happen.

Lastly, that screen in our end zone was McMariyon 2.0. That’s on the OC and QB coach.

  29. I think Wazzou has a shot at this one against Oregon. They always play the Ducks tough, and with as vulnerable as Oregon’s secondary has been, the Air Raid should score enough.

  30. I’d grade MM a C+ so far. Accurate throws, good spiral, etc. But he shot puts the ball a bit and it wound up in a few overthrows (one over the guys head, the other too much velocity). Looks like a deer in headlights, but he seemed to settle a bit. Stands around in the pocket too long/slow to go through progression, and will probably get sacked a lot if that doesn’t change. But considering he’s thrown a dozen balls he’s looked pretty decent.

  31. We need a RB who attacks. These guys all run passively. It’s so annoying. Nall did it last week, but this week he’s back to passive.

      • I don’t defend him. I just said he was a good leader so should get the start on a young team. Doesn’t mean he should get the bulk of carries. None of these RB are impressive.

          • Woods somehow ran for a 6.5 yard per carry last year. So I factored that in when I “supported him” (I’ve always said Brown should get many carries), too, along with the senior leadership. He is more tentative this year, and also the offense never gets into rhythm. There’s a lot of “let’s try Nall, let’s try Woods, let’s try Brown” and then with the QB and OL play there’s just no rhythm. I’m frustrated, too, but had this one penciled as a loss and had the Beavs at 2-3, so this isn’t very surprising. Just hoped we’d see progress in loses and there’s none. But that’s a tangent: the RBs are all tentative. Brown seems the most aggressive through the hole this year, but he’s out.

    • Our MLBs play way far back, and then don’t attack the box, they sit back and wait. That’s why they get juked out of their pants, and every run is an easy 5+ yards.

    • my guess is the latter. I don’t see any real playmakers on defense. and the ones that could be are being negated due to everyone else being awful.

  32. Oh surprise surprise, Storm runs for 20.

It’s like Baldwin is actively ignoring our best player until it’s too late. WTF is wrong with him?

    • I don’t think game planning is baldwins strong suit. He seems like a fine man just doesn’t strike me as a Tactician of oc. We don’t seem to have a game plan that focuses on exploiting the other teams weakness from week to week. We kinda just try to do what we do and hope it works

    • I think he broke a screen pass for a big gain. Not sure about a rush.

Somehow he has a 6+ ypc. He is a weird player. Just doesn’t seem to get the big conversions or ever get into rhythm.

  33. Lol our coaches suck guys… Storm woods has 7 carries. Chris brown 0 against a team that has been absolutely gashed on the edge two weeks straight. We had two weeks to prepare and didn’t. Maybe we forgot we had a game today?

    • Gotta run around with Collins and toss bad balls.

Seriously, he is a one step forward, two back QB. It’s hard to ever get anything going consistently with that.

      • Just seems like they aren’t concerns enough with winning. They failed to have a game plan today.. Which is inexcusable.. They are buying too much into the respect the process mantra. No sense of urgency.

    • Brown might be hurt. it’s a safe assumption considering he almost always is.

Storm having 8 carries is unacceptable. Best player on the team by a lot, and 8 touches?

Fuck Collins. Pretend you can teach the kid to be a QB, it’s not like he’s been playing football since he was 10.

  34. Andersen has to show more soon. Special teams has been bad,Baldwin hasn’t produced much at all for consistency on offense and the defense has had way for arm tackling here and there than expected. There is no reason to take kickoffs out of the endzone. At minimum it costs us 7-8 yards and when worse we are susceptible to a game changing turnover that can take us largely out of the game. GA had better put his thinking cap and find ways to get this team better in all phases or even beating Colorado at home may not happen. WSU will beat us unless this team and staff wakes up and starts acting like it wants to win.

  35. We deserve our ranking in the Pac. We couldn’t beat Colorado or Wazzu with the effort shown today. We’re weak physically and mentally. Some hangover from MR but the coaches grade today is an F…

  36. The Pac12 better get their lumps in now, and believe me we are counting each one! With 52 freshmen out of 85 scholly’s this team will only get better.

  37. Won’t lie, I’m a little mad that all the pundits have ended up being right. The Beavers look like they will indeed be at the bottom of the conference if they keep playing like this.

  38. Our WR’s seem to give up on plays. They aren’t helping Collins a lot. Same thing happened against Stanford.

The effort shown against the Tree would have made today much more palatable…

    • Collins overthrows or throws behind everyone, and keeps the ball on almost every zone read. Weird how the rest of the team isn’t going to bust their asses to bail him out.

      • So, what’s that mean? They don’t believe in him and his leadership/decisions? Maybe Angry was right… Woods, GA and the rest of the team have publicly said he’s a good leader but I’m kinda in the Angry camp – or at least the old one. Or the WR’s just haven’t been coached up.

  39. Has anyone told Collins that running in circles or backwards doesn’t even work in Madden football anymore?

    This Nebraska game is good

    • Harbaugh is so good at the college level where he can boss people around. That doesn’t work in the NFL. That Peppers guy is so good, too.

  40. They should get MM some playing time here. Why not give the guy some real time? I don’t get this Collins stuff in a 44-7 blowout. He isn’t going to learn anything in these final minutes.

  41. Nebby player “if not for the final 30 seconds of our 3 losses we’d be 5-0”

A football game is 60 minutes, not 59 minutes and 30 seconds. And if my aunt had balls, she’d be my uncle

      • Exactly, just to protect Collins from injury (if GA really wants him to start) it would be wise, but also give MM experience in the event of injury. That was as bad coaching as Riley.

  42. Getting back to our pathetic effort – do you guys think our players are that bad or was it a combo of coaching and ability/experience? I think a good portion of our players need to go find another team…

      • Valid but our teams have been historically weak mentally. The sideline had no energy – granted they were being rolled – but I’m not seeing the QB hustling and clapping to get guys going, etc. Lack of seasoning perhaps but that’s our MO, exception being the badass Fiesta Bowl team and the Poyer, Wheaton team in 2012.

        • I’m just going by what I saw, and they didn’t look into it from the start, and then they looked gassed really quickly. These early times are not good. The schedule is pretty brutal this year for a young team…

      • How could you not be into the game when their last one was a loss and you’ve had two weeks to prepare? May not win another game this year with this type of effort.

        BTW, coaching grade F.

    • I think a good portion of our players need to go find another team at the FCS level

FTFY. And I agree. not enough talent across the board

  43. anyone who is calling for “coaches to show us more” might wanna take a look into that riley recruiting cabinet that he so generously left empty. Anyone who expected us to have a good season is honestly just stupid. It is beyond clear that collins is the best QB that we CAN USE AT THIS TIME. I wanted Marcus before the season after hearing about how smart of a player he was, but he is not the right fit. collins is a TRUE FRESHMAN. Give the kid a fucking break. I wonder how long it will take for idiots on here calling for Andersen’s head. SMH.

    • It’s how we’re for me. There no game planning and still terrible execution and then lots of spells of just flat out disinterested and uninspired play. Yes there’s something to be said for getting your guys but the coaches have been huge flops to this point.

We look terrible. Harbaugh took a 5-7 squad and has them playing and competing lights out. gA and crew have out guys looking worse than Biley ever did

      • Opie would have had Del Rio throw 50 times today and the score would’ve been about the same but yes, GA and staff did not do themselves any favors today.

I’d say D- ~ F grades for the entire team across the board. AZ has a lot of injuries to starters yet they could’ve scored 60-70 on us today. BTW, we are so weak – I didn’t see one stick tackle today. We really need to get in the weight room and get some God given talent. Huge variance between the two teams today.

      • I think so.

I thought Collins was an F today. He ran in circles looking for a WR, and that shit hasn’t worked since Madden 2003. That is no way to run an offense. MM looked okay, but again, in such a small sample I have no clue what he can do. I do know Collins is a one step forward, two back QB. I’ve seen enough to make that call. I think he will beat up on bad teams (so probably two good games upcoming), and then struggle vs any team with a pulse.

He is going to get himself and WRs killed at this rate, too. He’s a great runner, but it’s not enough. All three good teams have shut that down.

    • No one has said fire the staff Dick but they just didn’t have the team ready today… Whether that’s mentally, physically, scheme-wise and so on today was a massive turd of an effort. We got rolled by a B- team today that could have scored 60 if they had wanted to. I honestly didn’t expect us to win – I figured we’d lose by 14-21 points but I want to see effort, intensity and some smash mouth tackling after two weeks of prep. Not the same old flailing and whiffs let alone the unimaginative play calling. Baldwin’s light at the end of the tunnel must have been a fantasy… BTW, Larry Scott and most of our DB’s and DL are obviously not FBS caliber. The Commish needs to sit.

  44. Riley figured game was just about over after missed field goal and went uber conservative gaining less than 5 yards on 3 straight ahead runs. It didn’t surprise me but was poor coaching knowing Banker’s prevent D does little besides prevent winning. One first down to win it and Wisky was using their timeouts anyway so atleast one pass would have been justified. Instead Riley had his blinders on from last week’s choke and was scared not to give NU fans runs this time. Playing not to lose by his staff costs them again. Biley/Banker in fine form. Nebraska at 2-4 for first time since Teddy Roosevelt was thinking about building a canal.

      • Yeah, but I didn’t expect them to slide THIS badly. I know transitive property doesn’t apply, but if the Ducks lose this, I might have a bit of fun saying Portland St. is the best team in the state.

        • Yeah don’t go down that path and perpetuate the transitive property fallacy. I can’t stand that. You see it on every forum where idiots just don’t get it. Be smarter than that, Ran Yakumo!

I think I predicted a down year for them with some vague prediction of 4 or so loses, but I can’t find it. It might be worse. They might pull this game out vs WSU, but I still think they’re on the decline. Adams is bad. Lockie is pretty bad. Their D is very bad.

  45. A little OT, but has anyone noticed the Portland State/North Texas score? Viks are ahead 66-0 in the 4th quarter. I am guessing that has to be the largest margin of defeat for FBS against a FCS opponent in history. Go Viks!

  46. Again I think what we lack the most is Senior leadership, somebody to guide the team on how to prepare and how to play and how to be a good teammate.
    Let’s take a closer look:
    13 Seniors on the roster
Sr. Gavin Andrews out for the year
Sr. LaVontee Barnett DL in the rotation, but undersized, okay production
Sr. Kellen Clute TE no catches this year?
Sr. Jalen Grimble DL second year playing and has been banged up both seasons. Did he play?
Sr. Jashawa James LB in the rotation starter, under performing
Sr. Josh Mitchel C been a starter for almost all four years, he’s been productive at times
Sr. Naji Patrick DB walkon has played sparingly
Sr. Kyle Peko DL first year playing D1 (5 games)
Sr. Ali’i Robbins DL has seen limited action/production in all his seasons
Sr. Larry Scott DB two year starter mixed bag, gets burned part of the position, some production
Sr. Caleb Smith TE underperformed out for the season
Sr. Shane Wallen RB walkon who?
Sr. Storm Woods RB 4 yr starter has been inconsistent, some production

so of the 13 Seniors only 4 are playing regularly and all are limited in their production.
52 Freshmen and 4 Seniors. Of course they are going to look weak physically and mentally. They need to mature in both areas and they need experience.

We will have to take some lumps this season.

  47. So far I’m 5 for 5 on the games.

    http://angrybeavs.com/football/11359

I have four games marked as wins:

    Weber State
    San Jose State
    Colorado
    Washington State

    Four games marked as loses:

    Oregon
    Stanford
    Arizona
    UCLA

    And four 50/50 games:

    Cal
    Washington
Michigan (although with Harbaugh now there this is likely a loss)
    Utah

I thought if they won this game they’d be ahead of schedule, but I can’t worry yet, because to me they are on schedule. What is most disappointing is there is no growth game to game. I feel Collins is the reason, or the general lack of QB play, if not Collins himself. You can’t have this one step forward, two back offense. And you can’t have the QB running around in circles where every play is a broken plan and hope it works.

    • I think Sitake and his D is more problematic than the inexperienced, young QBs. You expect a true FR QB to struggle, the big busted plays on D, the poor tackling, are disturbing.

Andersen needs to intervene on D, thought that’s not his style.

      • I don’t expect a true freshman QB to struggle when running an offense he ran in HS and a fairly simple offense to run. If he were running Riley’s pro offense I’d expect struggle. This offense isn’t rocket science, so I am a bit tired of that excuse, as I alluded to in another thread.

Garrettson can’t become eligible soon enough.

I also said I wasn’t impressed with Sitake’s D (the stats, or his personality), and people jumped on me.

  48. Well it looks like I made the right call on which game to DVR. Went through the game in record pace that rivaled some of Mike’s turds the last couple years. My thumb started cramping up going between
fast forward and play. Must have been the heat.

Seems like GA put the bye week to good use. Team was sharp. Guess Ass boy got the last laugh.
Speaking of laughs, I have not read through the thread, but Mike pulled another one out. He is on a roll! Bro was there and my phone has been silent. I’m guessing the sentiment on Angrybeavs was Mike once again fucked up by not really trying to get a first down which would have iced the game. He reacted to his fuck up last week and and ran the ball. That is the right answer, correct? No Mike, they changed the problem. I guessing he was not very good in math class. The amazing thing is none of his stooges will correct him.

  49. Been on you in the past about Collins, Angry (still disagree on your preseason assessment of his arrogance being a locker room problem, though you have noted that he’s changed your mind.) but I will agree that Collins is showing little to no growth so far and it’s hindering the offense. They look like Michigan when Denard Robinson was “QB.” Looks like a wide receiver playing quarterback out there. With Garretson and Moran coming in next year it wouldn’t shock me to see Collins moved outside like a poor mans Braxton Miller unless the coaches see serious improvement.

    • I want to be clear: I am down on Collins as a PASSER, and always have been. I didn’t like his personality early on, but he grew on me as he grew up and gave better interviews. I can only go by what I see. I love him as a runner, and I see the leadership. I’m not blind and not biased. If he improves I’ll reassess. I’m not tied to MM or any other player. I hope this is clear. MM was a C+ at best. People seem to confuse me picking MM as the best option to start with me claiming MM would be good once he did start. I never said that.

Now that I have seen 5 games of Collins, I can see what he is. A guy who can pass and run vs D2 schools, but can’t do much vs legit D1 schools. He might do okay vs Pac-12 bottom feeders.

I don’t get fooled by athleticism. I grew up in NYC during the Darryl Strawberry/Doc Gooden era. I saw “potential” and all world athleticism that went nowhere. I know what it takes to be great, and it is not raw athleticism. If Collins ever has a Eureka moment and gains those skills, I will gladly point them out and agree he is great. I’m not tied to any player or paradigm, and I’m always ready to shift as players prove themselves. As of now, I view Collins as a liability vs teams with a pulse. This is how I viewed him all along.

  50. That Nebraska WR Westerkamp is one hell of a WR. I hope the Jets draft him. He could be a Welker type, only better. I can’t imagine being a great player and playing for Riley. That must be brutal.

    • True, just ask Cooks, Wheaton, and the Rodgers bros.
BTW, did everyone hear Ken Simonton on the radio, props to GA for involving alum athletes……blew off MR.
OT: Helfrich really sounds wussy on ducky post game
