Angrybeavs Succession Plan

61

We need to come up with an AB succession plan. Do you guys want the site to die with me, or do you foresee someone who can run it up to [or above] the current standard? If so, name names, and later on I’d put up a poll for vote.

I have a shortlist of people I think are capable. Whether they’d want to do it is another story. But either way, we should have a plan. The idea of a final thread going on for thousands of posts and people asking for a new thread is disturbing.

  1. Beavblazer would seem like a logical replacement, maybe jack. Hopefully you can and will continue running the site tho. Maybe everything is so good in Beaver land no need? Hope all is well.

    • No not really. Every time I read SB Nation (which is never, but sometimes I come across links and accidentally click) it feels like generic hogwash. Kind of like the BeaverByte site. Didn’t he become affiliated with them or SI? All those aggregate sites are bad, imo.

Also, I really want to keep AB independent and ad free because once you’re affiliated with anyone you lose some objectivity. So for those reasons I don’t want to merge with any established sites.

  2. The Ryan Nall to linebacker thing needs to happen already IMO. He didn’t show up anywhere on the two deep. There seems to be a big hole he could fill there.at either the Stud or WILL

    • They’ve really botched Ryan Nall. It’s my first major disappointment with GA.

      Gina posted this:

Says he’s in at RB despite the depth chart. Even so, I don’t think he touches the ball enough there. Put him somewhere he can be on the field more. I’d make him a LB and then use him on offense when needed. He’s a rare two way player so do it already.

Maybe the plan is RB due to injuries and Woods graduating. That’s fine, but I’d like to see a two way player here.

      • I agree I could see him fitting a similar role the kid from Ucla was doing (Myles Jack?) he was playing LB and RB both. Let’s get this figured out, it seems like they have over thought the whole thing.

        • Unless he is just not good enough? But both Staffs have been gushing about him. With the injuries and defection at LB and then Songy f’ing up. The move to LB seemed logical. Maybe they were sensitive to have him move again in light of what happen with Sanders?

Just seems like LB is his best fit to play right now instead of wasting time as a versatile practice player.

          • Maybe his position preference is coming into play here, too.

He’s mostly bounced around different positions handling the ball, so it could be that he told the staff he wants to stick it out somewhere on offense, even if he gets buried on the depth chart. Staff says ‘okay, we envision you as a power back, stay at your h-back weight,’ and that’s what he does.

    • Since this a job, according to some, does he get fired? And if so, how long do we have to pay for his unemployment benefits? Is he eligible for a government training program, so he can be employable as a college basketball player? Or better yet, a college hockey player, which would also satisfy some diversity requirements in the workplace and kill two birds with the proverbial one stone.

  3. Angry, ive read your blog since the very beginning. I thank you for some incredible insight and an entertaining and educational place to be a fan. Personally, I would be totally satisified, if that come the final day that you can no longer lead this blog, that you sell out and take all from whomever can offer the most money for your creation. I do not forsee anyone carrying on at the same standard and level. So cash out when the time comes. It will never be the same.
Should you leave it for another, some of thr top consistently readable posters have been:
    in noparticular order,
    Whiskey,
    beaveblazer,
    Silver,
    Gopher,
    Pettibonehead,
    Jack,
    bendbeav,
    Some guy named angry.

    • Whiskey is not a viable candidate. Not enough time to devote and as mentally unstable as each of Jack’s 10 personalities

    • I would nominate myself, but I don’t really have anything to add to this site in regards to topics of discussion. Also, the fact that I would never be considered due to the fact that I’m rarely ever posting on this site anymore.

On that note, has anyone seen the uniform combination they’ll be wearing Friday?

White Helmets with Red White and Blue Beaver head(Armed Forces Tribute game)
      Black Tops
      White Pants
      Black/Orange cleats

  4. Appreciate having people mention me, but i honestly would be terrible at this. Angry has well developed opinions and topics. I regurgitate crap I’ve already seen elsewhere. Plus now that my family leave time is over, I don’t have much free time. Twitter is easy because i can do it one handed and multitask.
Angrybeavs wouldnt be angrybeavs without angry. Would have to change the site name to beavs.com. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.

    • Good morning..Beavblazer. Since you asked on the last thread I’ll answer here. I was thinking a response might get buried in the previous discussion.

We did something new this year. Left for London in mid-July without any real agenda other than let’s see what develops. So we essentially meandered, after three days in London to: Paris, been there often, train to Strasbourg, train to Keil, ferry to Bergen, Norway. After a few days in cool Scandinavia we were ready for some heat, so flew to Rome, for a week, trained down Amalfi coast, trained back up to Rome, Florence, Venice then Barcelona via Milan, back to London for one night then home. We typically will go with a firm itinerary, this time just seat of the pants with only the necessity of being at Heathrow on the 29th for return flight.

Hope all is well with the family. Congrats on 2nd little violator. JB

  5. Very pleasantly surprised to see Grimble on the depth chart, I was sure he’d been redshirted and said so here. My apologies for the misleading remark. I must have been thinking of Gavin Andrews, that’s what I get for not posting (and reading) a link. Sorry.

I agree with a statement above, AB wouldn’t be the same under the guidance of someone other than angry. Beyond the knowledge shared here, the tone set by angry has attracted the kind of community I enjoy; much more civil and knowledgeable than the big O or, from what I’ve heard, PO.

Calibeav’s editor approach seems worth a try, and Numbers has put forth a good list of candidates.

  6. Seems like the model would have to switch over to more of a newspaper format with multiple people to fill the void:
    Angry the Editor
Recruiting: Beavblazer & Beaverkman (Calibeav doing live periscope spots at high school games in socal)
Scouting & Gameday Analysis: Silversteam, Bill, Oneoldbeav & MB
Humor/Comic Strip: Beavergopher, Scotty & Bendbeaver
    Dark Humor: Whiskey & rsteve
    Travel: Pettibonehead
    Human Interest: Hemsley
A special Section just for arguing: KrogerComplete, CJ & BeavItOrNot
    Outdoor Life: GreatWhiteHunter
    Columnist: Jack
    Music and Entertainment: Jack
    Food and Beverage: Jack
    Politics: Jack
    Gadgets and Technology: Jack

  7. From what I gathered, people don’t think the site would be the same, they nominated some people, but those people don’t want the job. So when I die, AB goes with me — one long, creepy thread until the domain expires. That’s fine.

Here is another idea: I can schedule posts for a future date. So maybe I can make a whole string of threads for years out. The problem there would be they’d have to be generic like general topic, game day threads, etc since, you know, i’ll be dead and unable to chime in on any breaking news. I’ll have to start each thread with “I’m dead and don’t even know if GA is still coach or any of the players, but …” could be morbidly funny.

Another idea is to actually use the forum section. This might be best…

Give me some feedback on both ideas.

      • There’s no way to do infinite. I’d have to go in and manually schedule them, which could take a while. I could do a lot that way, but not infinite!

I think the forum is probably the best idea. Then all the guys can make threads as needed. I could assign a few moderators and one administrator.

I could also make the forum the main page, so when you go to angrybeavs.com the forum pops up. I can redesign the forum if needed, but I like the minimal look and feel it fits with the spirit here.

The problem with making infinite threads is it would take forever and be so boring “Here’s another general thread” with no guidance. Those threads are fine here and there when nothing is going on, but it would probably get old. I think the forum makes more sense, but we’ll see what others think.

I’d have to put someone in charge of renewing the domain, too. I think I can do as much as 7 years at a time, so I’d do that, but after those 7 years it would expire unless someone has access to renew it. So if someone wants to volunteer for that….it’s easy. It’s just a $12 renewal fee and then paying the host. And that person can do a donation thread to pool money for it. Every time I do one of those people come through with enough to cover hosting.

    • Hope all is well and this is just philosophical like “I don’t care about college sports, my other interests have taken over so the site is dead” or “I’ve accomplished my goals here and am happy with the direction the program is going so the Angry Beav is now dead.”

If something is imminent I’d say just a general weekly thread so the wolves can just have at it.

Honestly the site wouldn’t be the same without you. Just ask for donations to pay for server space for a few more years, lock out new comments so idiots can’t spam it, and have a little bit of legacy with it as I’m sure it’s been a lot of work. Which we appreciate.

The group can start up a different blog “angrysdisciples.com” or something if we choose too, but this is your baby.

      • but this is your baby.

That seems to be the general consensus that it wouldn’t be the same.

I’ll let more people chime in on the forum idea. I realize that wouldn’t be the same, but there are enough people around who get the spirit of AB who could probably keep the forum going in that spirit. Maybe not, and maybe it’s best to just leave it as an archive. That’s why we’re brainstorming here.

I personally like leaving this part of the site as an archive, and then starting the new era on the forums with the “disciples” running the show.

    • I like the long, creepy thread until the domain expires idea. The only problem with that is if you take a couple days off we’ll all start to ask if you’ve checked into the giant beaver in the sky.
Leave a legacy! Unless you can sell out and put the funds to some use that would benefit you, just let this sucker fade into the sunset.
It’s been a GREAT run that has made more of an impact on me than you know. If someone else wants to be in charge, let them start one themselves, like you did and let it take on their personality, like you did. If it’s worth a damn we’ll all gravitate towards them.
The last thing I want to see is a bastardized, ad-riddled version of AB that forces me to say “I remember back when Angry ran this thing…”

    • Wait, so Rathbone is writing for SI now? I’ve seen stuff from the Barometer, Blitz and now SI with his name on it this year. Playa gets around

      • How much effort is it to run it? Hours/week? How much is the annual amount of money run the site?

I don’t want to see this site go away and don’t have the patience to make one similar. I will run it if need be. Still Angry?

  8. Well that certainly is NOT good news and I’m sorry to hear it.

I’m with the others who think it wouldn’t be the same without you and it should exit stage left when you do.

    Bummer

  9. I’m still not sure what the succession plan is. There are some good ideas but no consensus. I guess we’ll have to revisit this at some point. For now I’m assuming the main site will die and readers can use the forums instead.

Someone will have to pay the hosting fees. This can be done via donations. It’s like $300 for 5 years, I think.

  10. Don’t leave us, oh angry one! Unless you must… :(

I imagine should the sad happen, a regular here posts a new site and we migrate.

Admit it, you’ve struck a big soap deal and can’t be bothered to deal with us anymore…It’s okay, I understand *sniffle*
