General Discussion (Non-commodities version)

76

I can't shake the feeling that the lack of recruiting success thus far is due to all the off-season changes around the Pac-12. From the TV contract, the new (or young) coaches that bring energy, facility upgrades around the league, etc. Everyone else in the league is moving, and OSU is standing still (see Einstein's Theory of Relativity, which states a still object ages more rapidly in relation to light/moving objects).

Is this why we feel old, stagnant, irrelevant? Well, you see what I'm getting at (for those who have no idea what I am talking about, here's a simple video explanation: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sa81lP9MR0I). Perspective shapes an observer's reality via time dilation, and OSU is the guy standing outside Einstein's light-speed train while everyone else is all aboard.

Now don't you wish we stuck to discussing economics and commodities?

AngryBeavs is Three Years Old

To celebrate, let's dig into the archive for this gem, from 2010:

Will the current batch of offensive linemen have their starting roles challenged, or will they be handed the starting jobs based on experience? It is a must that, based on on-the-field performance, they have their starting jobs yanked. Riley is extremely frustrating in this regard, starting experienced garbage over unproven talent time and time again. By the halfway mark sometimes he figures it out, but this year he did not. And then fans wonder why we have slow starts. Depth is one reason, but not having the right players on the field until game five is another. My fear is that next year the walk-ons (who are all juniors) will go into camp as the favorites to win their positions, and that is simply inexcusable. I do not want to waste another season sifting through garbage players from lazy recruiting classes. We did this with Pankey, and we're doing it with the basketball team. That is not fair; we are all getting older and wasting seasons begging for seniors to graduate does nobody any good.

Fast forward a couple years, insert Robinson for Pankey. Rinse, repeat.

Sometimes I feel like the guy in 1971 who said people should hold their silver coins. He was just stating the obvious. Everyone laughed at him at the time, but after many years he's been proven right. I guess my point is that I've been writing this shit since 2005 (on other forums), and now those people are finally coming around to reality. Time is interesting for many reasons, but in this context, because as it passes it removes anomalies and puts things in their clear and rightful place.

Players Leaving the Program

Here's the list we've been waiting for, from the official site:

Oregon State senior wide receiver Jordan Bishop has elected to retire from football and track due to injuries, head football coach Mike Riley announced Thursday.

Bishop, a West Salem High School graduate, lettered three years in football and concludes his career with 66 receptions for 893 yards and four touchdowns. He played in 34 games, starting 12, and will graduate in human development and family studies following summer term.

Bishop, who has battled ankle and foot injuries recently, was a high jumper in track for the Beavers and earned All-America honors in 2010.

Coach Riley also announced that the following student-athletes have left the team to pursue other opportunities or for personal reasons; senior wide receiver Geno Munoz, senior cornerback Keynan Parker, junior linebacker Cade Cowdin, junior quarterback Jack Lomax, junior linebacker Zeke Sanders, freshman-redshirt linebacker Will Storey and freshman-redshirt wide receiver Tyler Trosin, Munoz, who has also fought injuries during his career, has graduated with a degree in human development and family studies. Parker, a native of British Columbia, was drafted in May by the Canadian Football League’s Montreal Alouettes.

Initial reaction: Trosin is the one guy I'll miss. It's funny Cade Cowdin is already gone (now Beaver fans will act like he wasn't that good and we didn't really need him haha). Bishop…a nice WR, but he had unreliable hands. I think some other guys can step in there and be better.
