Beavers down 3-2 in the 7th after a two run single by King. Grenier laid down a sacrifice bunt down 3 runs for….some reason. With 2 hits coming after the bunt, the Beavers could have had the lead right now if Grenier was allowed to swing away. Bizarre decision
He was tiring and just walked a guy, so I guess Yeskie and Casey were worried K-State would jump all over him but going to the bullpen will do that anyways
That really doesn’t have a huge impact cause they still throw midweek and usually get a lot of action on Saturday and Sundays in the conference when the ace isn’t throwing. They just haven’t been able to develop guys in middle relief and it has really cost them in the postseason when they don’t have more than 2 reliable arms. Been an issue for far too long
OT sorta: Softball takes down 12/11 Oklahoma 6-4 with a 3 run walk-off. They’re now 11-1 on the season and should be able to take down the rest of the field in their tourney. If they do, wouldn’t be surprised to see them ranked next week as they received some votes last week.
If Utah wins out (Arizona at home Saturday and Colorado at home the following weekend) and the Ducks pull another disappearing act in LA like they did in the bay area, guess who will be Pac-12 champions? It’s not out of the realm of possibility either
hate to say it, but we do better if the losers win out… except for the Pac Tourney… they really don’t match up well with bigger teams… which would be most of the Pac this year
They peaked early and could get some traction in the second season. But I would buy a second round loss on them.
Utah and Cal are the two teams that are peaking at the right time.
I can’t see the Beavs finishing any higher than 7th. Even that’s gonna be tough because after the leg humpers get waxed in Eugene on Sunday they finish with Wazzu at home. They’ll finish 9-9 in conference
As a given, yes. That’s what I was saying a couple weeks ago about us getting a 7 seed or better at season’s end. Beating UW helps because I expect that 9-9… maybe 8-10 if Wazzu feels spunky, is where they will end. If we get to 9-9, we’re in because of that tie-break.
Actually, we should be in if we win three more games before selections take place.
USC has shown a chink in their armor the last 3 games. Needing a double digit comeback (and some home cookin) to beat the Buffs at home, then losing their first home game to Utah. Stanford rolled them last night and Cal will do the same this weekend.
OT: BWB’s get help from GWB’s. GWB’s knock off #5 tOSU at the Barn. If the BWB’s can take care of business this weekend, a #1 seed in the NCAA’s is there for them.
Looks like Jarmal was a trend setter. As if you don’t need another reason to hate Duke.

Duke star Grayson Allen tripped Florida State’s Xavier Rathan-Mayes during the Blue Devils’ …
Ideally the Beavers would prefer to get the 7 spot and hope Utah gets the 2 seed cause they’ve played Utah very well and can beat them. Hopefully Stanford gets the 10 seed in that scenario tho.
I checked the standings today, and think this has already changed as it had Colorado in 5th at 9-7 and Usc 6th 8-7. So I think best case scenario would be to finish 6th and face Arizona St. We would have to pass UW (who we beat in our only meeting) and Usc who we have beaten once already. So, if we beat WSU and UsC we might be able to pull that off. I would think avoiding ucla would be good, since we would be playing them within a week. The most stable seed looks like 11 and 12, so thats what I thought would be best. We could finish 8th and still could face ucla or stanford. Or we could finish 7th and face either one of those two.
Finishing 6th looks like a matchup with Arizona St. I know we lost to them big earlier, but they don’t look good and it will be a neutral site. We would have more urgency for sure. It looks like they have given up and we need payback.
6th is definitely possible but making it the semis of the conference tournament would put the Beavers in the NCAAs pretty solidly if they take care Wazzu and split in LA and a quarterfinal matchup with Utah instead of Arizona or Cal would preferable for this team imo. Utah is really good but the Beavers match up well with them and I like their chances there way more than against Cal or Arizona
those standings are correct. Colorado is currently in 5th. CU, Utah, UW and WSU have played one more game than everyone else. They finish next week with just one game against their geographical rival (Cu-Utah and UW-WSU). IF……………UW loses in Eugene Sunday and USC loses at Cal the Beavs would jump UW and be tied with USC for 6th after they beat Wazzu Sunday. These last 3 regular season games are all important
He seemed confused about it and suggested it was due to performance. I think that’s unlikely given Casey stuck with Thompson after his years of awful performance. My guess is a tweak that they discovered in the dugout. But if not that, I’d guess it was coping attitude/immaturity that Casey didn’t like, rather than due to under-performance.
Jake Thompson has thrown 5 shutout innings, but in the 5th K-State hits some balls very hard on him. Yeskie better have some guys ready to go in the start of the top of the 6th in case Jake runs into trouble quick
K-State isn’t gonna be good but I think they’ll be better than last but middle of the pack at best in the big 12 which isn’t a good conference depth wise. Jake will pitch against William & Mary next week, so who knows if he has it figured out yet. Should find out by conference play though
That makes more sense. I assumed there were good due to recent success, but that throws some ice water on the JT party. Since Utah Valley lit him up, this is still good to see. I just don’t trust him at all.
Cadyn Grenier with a bases clearing 2 out double. 11-0 Beavs. I think today we’re seeing the team everyone thought the Beavs would be. Could be the level of competition
Here’s how the ACC gives kid glove treatment to 5 star programs for player on court misconduct. Any one wonder how the Reid incident would’ve been handled had it been a player for Arizona that did the tripping? Just wow
Different treatment for doing something to an official and worried about safety there, but Grayson Allen at least should have suspended for a game for being a repeat offender. Duke, ACC and NCAA are now saying it’s okay to trip players intentionally. Can’t suspend players for doing that now. Funniest part about it was Grayson knew what he was doing and then started pretending like he had no idea what happened. Coach K wouldn’t discipline him for any reason, too focused on seeding for the big dance
If the pretenious putz Coach K had any balls he would suspend Grayson. Romar can just shut the fuck up at this point, refs could call traveling on 30% of the plays this day and age.
I wish Oregon State scheduled annual baseball series against the likes of UNC, LSU, Florida, FSU or Virginia. Obviously not all of them but would make the non conference a lot more intriguing and challenging and really test a lot of players in different environments
Not necessarily. Vanderbilt is playing at Stanford this season and Vandy played at Oregon a couple years. There are some SEC squads who will do home and home agreements, but Florida and LSU are not one of them. Miss State, Ole Miss, Vandy, Texas A&M, South Carolina would all be good opponents to do that with and Oregon State’s national profile makes them more intriguing to teams from the SEC and ACC. Non conference schedule this year is just way too light, I’d like to see more challenging opponents to get the team more prepared for conference play. It’s nice to see them steamroll teams but it’s never a bad thing to face some legit top 15 opponents.
Next season the Gophers are hosting a B1G PAC challenge in March in the new Vikings stadium.
UCLA is going to be here, but I can’t remember the other two schools from the west coast.
I think Georgia came out and played a series in Portland against the Beavs a few years back. It may have been the one season where the Beavs did not make the playoffs, but they won the series against the Bulldogs and they were highly ranked at the time.
Madrigal is very good and Harrison is as well, but Grenier is this team’s best player. Works the count, has some pop, walks a ton and sprays the ball around the field and plays a very solid 3B. Easily could be playing SS too. He’s gonna drive in a lot of runs in the 5 spot.
OT: Watching the Utah AZ game and ESPN listed AZ’s tournament resume. OSU was listed as a quality win and UCLA as a key loss. When’s the last time that happened?
Yikes, this would be a very bad loss for Oregon State. Kansas is not a good team and lost 15-1 to Utah yesterday. Nate Yeskie once again extremely late to make a move. He’s consistently unprepared when a starter runs into trouble.
2-1 Kansas, runners on first and second and no outs. 3 straight hits to start the inning before Yeskie goes to the bullpen. Guys should have been ready out there before the bottom of the 7th began
Also hurt them that Ice, Gillette, Anderson, King didn’t start today. Didn’t have the depth in the lineup they usually have. Soon as those guys came in the game the team started scoring like crazy
So much for that asshat’s theory the quacks would only need two runs to win games. He also guaranteed they’ll be going to Omaha this year. As a player or spectator?
That wasn’t the observation; it was which pitcher throws better in the 1st inning.
Obviously other factors come into play (bullpens, fatigue, etc), but it’s a very good indicator, and a main reason Vegas doesn’t allow bets once a game starts (at least not without adjusting).
I may have misinterpreted the radio on the “drifting high” observation, still, a seven inning shutout and 102 pitches ought to be enough from Luke today.
Beavs up 3-0 through 7.
Ice visits the mound, Max puts a curve past the batter for the K and the bases are left full to end the 8th. That is the kind of thing that builds trust and “team” between Ice and the staff.
BWBs gag away the first half lead and find themselves behind at Cal. Ol’ scotty’s flameout prediction from the Stanford thread not looking so stupid now, eh?
Actually, outscored the good gals in the 3rd period.
Cal comes in with a disappointing season and hasn’t “learned” how to win, the Beavs know how to win, even with a coupe clinkers this season. Marie and Gabby don’t get enough credit, same with Hunter.
Your girlfriend, Gulich, saved the game. She was the only one not afraid to take an open shot. Plus she shockingly made a layup. Reverse no less! Why do they miss layups?
ASU losing to UCLA is pretty important. The ladies will no longer be the last #2 seed and will miss the UCONN bracket, making the trip to SD pretty likely, The ladies still need to execute, but things are looking better.
As for the game vs wsu, game plan should be to attack the rim on offense. And then keep attacking. Don’t be settling for threes. Should be less than 15 three attempts. Beavs are at home so the refs will give them more calls.
Knock wsu out early, don’t let them feel like they have a chance.
Beavers give up a solo shot down 1-0
Beavers down 3-2 in the 7th after a two run single by King. Grenier laid down a sacrifice bunt down 3 runs for….some reason. With 2 hits coming after the bunt, the Beavers could have had the lead right now if Grenier was allowed to swing away. Bizarre decision
Gillette pinch hits for Donahue and his two run single gives the Beavers the lead
And the bullpen implodes once again. 5-4 K-State
Missed it. Why was Rasmussen taken out?
He was tiring and just walked a guy, so I guess Yeskie and Casey were worried K-State would jump all over him but going to the bullpen will do that anyways
94 pitches, still not too sharp yet this season.
The bullpen sucks year after year. Not like the kids aren’t talented. They have maybe 2 reliable guys out of the bullpen every season. Thanks, Yeskie.
Maybe it’s because the starters have been so good in recent years, that the bullpen guys didn’t get enough action to develop a rhythm.

Today’s lineup:
https://twitter.com/Beaver_Baseball/status/703299817405964288
Jake Thompson? Well, Beavers will need 10 runs today then
ask and you shall receive
Jake Thompson with a scoreless first inning but did allow a hit. Struck out 3
left the bases loaded, more LOB problems. Thought the offense was supposed to be good this season?
1-0 beavs on sac bunt.
Pinch-hitting for Gillette in the 2nd inning is……..odd. He’s been fine in limited appearances so far this season. Don’t understand that decision
Maybe he was hurt.
Would be the only explanation but Reese didn’t mention an injury when it happened, so who knows what happened
Now it sounds like Casey is just getting guys in and out of the game for playing time, as he just took someone else out.
2-0 left another two on base
Wahoo – Beavs’ Softball 12-1
Women are 0-28 at Stanford? Jeez.
How long before Thompson implodes? I say 4th inning.
I thought it was the 3rd inning when I wrote that. Didn’t realize we were in the 4th. Oops.
I’m very surprised he put up 4 scoreless.
Jake Thompson has thrown 5 shutout innings, but in the 5th K-State hits some balls very hard on him. Yeskie better have some guys ready to go in the start of the top of the 6th in case Jake runs into trouble quick
Morrison 2rbi double, 5-0!
6-zip Beav’s.
Jake cruised through the 6th.
Jake Thompson went 6 2/3 innings, no runs allowed, 7 strikeouts, 5 hits, 2 walks, 91 pitches.
Amazing.
Is K-state any good?
K-State isn’t gonna be good but I think they’ll be better than last but middle of the pack at best in the big 12 which isn’t a good conference depth wise. Jake will pitch against William & Mary next week, so who knows if he has it figured out yet. Should find out by conference play though
Not today.

FWIW, KSU was picked to finish last in the Big 12

That makes more sense. I assumed there were good due to recent success, but that throws some ice water on the JT party. Since Utah Valley lit him up, this is still good to see. I just don’t trust him at all.

Kansas State is our baseball beeyotch. North Carolina, too
I wish Oregon State scheduled annual baseball series against the likes of UNC, LSU, Florida, FSU or Virginia. Obviously not all of them but would make the non conference a lot more intriguing and challenging and really test a lot of players in different environments
No SEC schools. They’d make us play at their place every freaking time.

Makes sense as the Cardinals wanted to draft him at the end of the first round.
Beavers win 14-0. They’re now scoring 9.16 runs per game on the season
Same story as usual for Eckert early on. He doesn’t miss bats. Now has allowed 14 hits in 7 1/3 innings on the season
OT: Watching the Utah AZ game and ESPN listed AZ’s tournament resume. OSU was listed as a quality win and UCLA as a key loss. When’s the last time that happened?
6 innings, 4 hits and 1 run allowed so far for Eckert. 1-1 tie in the 7th
4-2 Beavers after a three run homer from Billy King
Billy King with a pinch hit 3 run homer
It feels like this team can hit their way back into any non-conf game, but I think it’s living a little dangerously once league play starts.
Also hurt them that Ice, Gillette, Anderson, King didn’t start today. Didn’t have the depth in the lineup they usually have. Soon as those guys came in the game the team started scoring like crazy
6-2 Beavs after 8 innings. 2 scoreless innings from the bullpen.
Billy King is going to be the new Gabe Clark, a guy who hammers OOC pitching and sucks egg in conference.
Once Cary is back, Billy King probably will just fill the pinch-hitting role and they’ll DH Hamilton and Donahue most of the time.
I doubt he’ll see much playing time in conference.
Seems like Casey is throwing everyone in to get playing time now because the starting 9 won’t be taken out of games once conference play starts.
Beavers win 9-3
So much for that asshat’s theory the quacks would only need two runs to win games. He also guaranteed they’ll be going to Omaha this year. As a player or spectator?

Beavs win another Pac-12 wrestling title. That is 5 straight.
Excellent
Good all around effort from the team! Managed to win the title with only one individual champion.
Bryce Fehmel is proving to be a reliable late innings arm out of the pen. Any word on when Mitch Hickey will return?
Luke, through 3 innings, 7 ground outs and two K’s.
Hitting the first batter he faced was no predictor of “future performance”! He’s throwin’ strikes.
That wasn’t the observation; it was which pitcher throws better in the 1st inning.
Obviously other factors come into play (bullpens, fatigue, etc), but it’s a very good indicator, and a main reason Vegas doesn’t allow bets once a game starts (at least not without adjusting).
No disagreement at all, just pointing out that there is no need to panic based on a single AB.
1-0 top of the 5th
On to the B5, Beavs up 1-0.
Luke at 70 pitches and sounds like drifting high; will “too late Nate” make a move before 95 pitches??
Nobach with a 2 RBI single. 3-0 in bottom of the 6th.
I may have misinterpreted the radio on the “drifting high” observation, still, a seven inning shutout and 102 pitches ought to be enough from Luke today.
Beavs up 3-0 through 7.
Lady Beavs about to start.
Luke out after 7. Allowed 4 hits and struck out three. Good day for him. Scotland Church is in.
Warning to all who use Ghostery — don’t update to v6. It’s awful.
Church allows a one RBI single. 3-1 in the top of the eighth.
Engelbrekt in for Church.
He is going to get a sore arm.
Maybe “too late” is catching on, Church replaced by Max E. after giving up 2 hits a BB, and one run facing only 4 batters.
Ice visits the mound, Max puts a curve past the batter for the K and the bases are left full to end the 8th. That is the kind of thing that builds trust and “team” between Ice and the staff.
BWB’s again looking sloppy.
Two years in a row now they’re playing their worst basketball at season’s end. I guess they found their identity.
Yup. It is amazing how many point blank shots they miss. SW picking a bad time to have a shooting slump.
It’s the Reverse-Riley. Start out hot, flame out. Oh, and actually win a championship.
Cal: Black players in white unis
OSU: White players in black unis
So much contrast!
Team is playing scared.
BWBs gag away the first half lead and find themselves behind at Cal. Ol’ scotty’s flameout prediction from the Stanford thread not looking so stupid now, eh?
Another missed layup!
And another
SW is killing the team. Crap passes.
This one looks over. Has Cal even scored in the 2nd half?
Actually, outscored the good gals in the 3rd period.
Cal comes in with a disappointing season and hasn’t “learned” how to win, the Beavs know how to win, even with a coupe clinkers this season. Marie and Gabby don’t get enough credit, same with Hunter.
UCLA up 10 on Arizona State.
Your girlfriend, Gulich, saved the game. She was the only one not afraid to take an open shot. Plus she shockingly made a layup. Reverse no less! Why do they miss layups?
Your girlfriend, the crazy realtor, does not look happy!
Hopefully she gets downright pissed.
Heard she’s not mad about the game, but that someone rejected her 10 year ARM at 3.4% before the game.
LOL. Plus the price of hairspray went up.
One word: Prozak.
She was surprisingly calm in Corvallis this year, and seemed under control most of the game today as well.
Gulich improved a lot this year. She was pretty hesitant and lacking confidence until about halfway through the year. She’s pretty good now.
After watching the BWB’s, why do I have this strange desire to shave my legs?
That sounds like a personal problem :)
Sharing the title and getting a #1 seed looking good. UCLA up 7 with 2 minutes to play
what happens if ASU loses? Tie for the title or out right champs?
Tie/share, but #1 seed in tourney.
they’ll play USC/WSU winner in conf tournament quarterfinals. Stanford will be on the same side of the bracket as No. 4 seed.
1. OSU
2. ASU
3. UCLA
4. Stanford
“Shared” championship when you’ve beaten someone head-to-head is a joke.
Agree.
UCLA is going to win.
ASU losing to UCLA is pretty important. The ladies will no longer be the last #2 seed and will miss the UCONN bracket, making the trip to SD pretty likely, The ladies still need to execute, but things are looking better.
Pretty damn good last couple days, Beavs win Pac 12 championships in wrestling and womens hoops. And O-Live hasn’t mentioned either one.
It’s too bad it’s not track. Otherwise the Oregonian would have reporters on the ground. What a rag.
As for the game vs wsu, game plan should be to attack the rim on offense. And then keep attacking. Don’t be settling for threes. Should be less than 15 three attempts. Beavs are at home so the refs will give them more calls.
Knock wsu out early, don’t let them feel like they have a chance.
