  1. First!

Black bandits, the guy you mentioned from the other thread about “his side winning” was Craigbeav. I know because his weak sauce called me a sister slammer. Even though his mom disagrees. And I don’t have a sister. Another of the “tolerant liberals” who absolutely can’t walk the walk.

It’s either a retard or another of Jack’s multiple personalities since he’s a closet liberal. Either way he’s probably already soiled his panties after sipping his Starbucks soy latte. I know, deplorable.

  2. Just catching up now on the past 3 threads. Saw some questions about recruiting.
    This weekend theyre hosting:
    Tyler,
Isaiah Dunn (DB who played with Cotton, Hodgins amd Willard on 7on7 team),
Tanis Joseph (a newly recruited JC off. Tackle)
Jaelen Bush (kid who is a friend of the family. No offer yet, and likely a PWO candidate with upside at DE, TE or possibly LT)

We’ve offered 3 new JC O-lineman in recent weeks which worries me that George is looking around more than theyre comfortable with. I still think we pull in 2-3 more JC OL in this class, but now we’re just looking at big bodies with mid-level offer lists.
Green I feel good about (Daniel)
Falaniko I can’t get a read on, but it’s down to us and USC I think
Tyler I feel pretty confident about unless a texas school offers him late.
Dunn is a backup option on defense. Probably would land him if other pieces dont come our way.
Pututao is a mission guy and i dont think we land him anyway, with his brothers already at byu.
Moku Watson is likely a Beav after today.

Any other guys I’m forgetting that you had questions about?
I’ll check in on this thread a little more frequently today. Work was busy this week.

      • Yeah, that was me suggesting he could possibly be a duck. I posted these comments in a prior thread but should have carried them forward here:

Pili is pretty mystereous. He doesn’t reveal much.
It is interesting that yet another 247 analyst put him down as an OSU lean yesterday. I typically dont look at the crystal ball predictions. If anything, i look at recently timestamped predictions, which are mostly going OSU’s way.
Other than that, I have always felt like Pili was leaning toward USC or Oregon. If UW had offered, he would be going there.
I don’t know how badly USC needs a 3* DT either. Seems like they would have plenty of options. Should find out today where he’s going, at least temporarily.

Cotton, I think will be a Beav. I just think he likes his future teammates at OSU, and I also think Oregon snubbed him after the old regime wanted him. Could be some revenge factor playing into it

        • Thanks for all your work on recruiting and for updating the list of those visiting this weekend.
Looking forward to good news next weekend when D.Green is scheduled to visit.

    • In looking at the possible committment list, I’m still very concerned about the OL. I didn’t think they were playing particulary well until Harlow came back and now he and Andrews are gone. Will these JC recruits have to step in and start? Is Justin Sattlemaier good enough to be a difference maker?

      • Moore would be a starter. The other guys they’ve been offering are not going to be ready to start on day 1, in my opinion.
Agasiva would have been the other instand starter, but utah got him.

There are a bunch of potential JC guys theyre looking at, but only 1 looks like he could be a day 1 type of guy. (I have to go dig up his name, cant remember it now)
Our OL group will have very little experience as a squad next year. I predict major growing pains early in the year, unfortunately.

        • That’s what I’m mostly concerned about. I think the offense made some nice strides as the year progressed, especially considering the injuries at QB, but some of that could be contributed to the growth and stability of the OL. I like the skill players, but you can’t get the ball downfield without time in the pocket and Nall can’t do it all on his own. I hope a struggling OL does not derail what looks like a bowl eligible season.

        • James Alston was the guy i was trying to remember. Was origiannly though to be coming out of juco next year, but turns out he’s available this year. Alot of teams are starting to show interest now, including OSU.
6’8″. Looks like he could contribute early.
Biggest issue is he’s from the east coast, so not sure how likely it would be for a west coast team to pull him in, let alone one with no airport.. .

          http://www.hudl.com/video/3/7450789/5829fe3b3bd8148f0cdcca26

          • At least he is in Cali now, so maybe it won’t be a huge adjustment, but the Beavs don’t get many east coast recruits. I would offer up my son, he was the starting center on his team (and a pretty decent shotgun snapper), but alas he’s only 10 and a little undersized at 5 ft and 120lbs, but he’s getting there.

  3. Hopefully this thread stays politics free. I come here to read up on Oregon State athletics, not to observe the same 5 people jerking each other off with their political viewpoints.

    • Good chance? Probably not. I do think we need one more bigger bodied back though. We have Green and potentially Tyler coming in this class, while losing Cook and Lucas.
Green and Tyler are both on the smaller side, when compared to Nall and Pierce.
Both are talented and have speed, but not the ground and pound types of bodies that can continuously take a beating.
Judson could be that heftier back, but I think he will be a duck

  4. There was previous mention of the “SUV with police escort” method of recruiting employed by Taggart. Here is a link which fills out that line.

This approach, along with the swoosh, is gonna attract a lot of SA’s. I doubt many are discouraged from listening to Willie because of the hospitalization story…….it’s being spun pretty effectively as a “teams gonna be tough” thing.

  5. I was looking through some old posts today and came across this guy. Remember this guy? Can’t believe that was 7 years ago.
    https://www.linkedin.com/in/peter-lalich-83638761

It looks like his arrogance never ceased, with the “I’m good enough to play on your nfl team” line that he throws in. Then the link to his website doesn’t work. I think that sums this guy up.

Another hilarious name I came across: Wilder McAndrews. Boy did he stink. He always had a broken hand, and when he didn’t he was even worse then Remmers. Krebs brothers. Man, it is funny looking through the archives. At times we read like Nebraska fans. “Riley is on Jim Rome and psyched about the upcoming season!”…lol.

    • Remember, nobody had jamire calvin as announcing osu until the morning of that game when several 247 analysts flipped their decision. It caught both of our local recruiting sites by complete surprise.
Of course it didnt last long, but point is, anything could happen. We did send chad to alaska to meet Pili’s family back in December. Doubt we would have had him make that trip if we didnt think he was a priority at the time.

    • And, really Pili isn’t a local kid. Transferred from Alaska for his senior year in Oregon. As soon as football season was over, I heard he went back to AK.

  6. I had a dream last night that the men’s basketball team completely blew out UCLA. Whatever I ate and drank before bed, I need more of it

    • I didn’t have a dream, but I watched a documentary on the 80/81 basketball season and then sobbed uncontrollably when it was over for the sense of loss and the feeling in the pit of my stomach that these things will never happen again in my lifetime.

    • I had a nightmare once that Riley won a national championship at nebraska. I was grumpy all day……..for absolutely no reason.

  7. Think we are getting Ben Moos. Anyone seen his film to compare to Pili? Still want Pili myself. When does the Polynesian Bowl start?

  8. Hope the staff is close to closing on a few more talented recruits. Perhaps this is the lull before the final strong push. Beavs need Andersen to land multiple key pieces in this class so that a continual climb over next 3-4 years becomes much easier.
Bring it home down the stretch GA.

  9. Go Beavers? OT I’m executed to see baseball again that is for sure; top 10 ranking in the polls scary me for a disappointment. But that is old football feelings lurking in with a touch of what happened with basketballs. This I hope is a rebuilding season.

So on to baseball the sport I will just randomly go to a game on weekends it is easy to make a game every two weeks or so

  10. TJ Green sure makes it sound like he’s getting cold feet with his OSU commitment. Hope the coaches are on top of this because I feel like he should be one of our highest priority guys in this class

  11. Watching the game on P-11 network. 12 – Beavers makes 11. There must be some type of “senior night” special on the courtside seats. There isn’t one person less than 100 including an old lady in a wheelchair with a plaid blanket on her lap! Hope they make through whole game without dozing off.
    (Or worse)

  12. Dunn and Watson both commit tonight. I really hope GA and his staff can keep this class together these last 2 weeks. I have this sinking feeling we’re all going to be mostly disappointed on signing day. Luck o da beavs

  13. Uh… Oh…. Tinkle starting to sound like the late Mark Helfrich in post-game comments. “It’s on me.” “I’ve got to do a better job of coaching.”

No coach on the planet could get much out of this collection of mis-matched toys. JB

  14. So with Dunn and Moku Watson, are class is at 20 commits (which is really 19 with Bowcut being mission bound)
6 spots left. And we know they’re putting alot of focus on Green, Falaniko, Tyler, Joseph, Judson and Moore.
In the unlikely event that they would land all of those guys, they would be done. Who else would we like to see on the short list in case any of those guys don’t pan out?

      • Right, knew I was forgetting somebody. I would count him as onr of the more certain guys we have left.(Lots of young defensive backfield pieces with Manning, Gardner, Cotton, Dunn, Moku Watson, plus possibly Hayes and Allen depending on which side they end up playing.

It’s funny, even with this large of a class, the recruiting sites still put us in the 40 range for our ranking compared to the rest of the country. I really feel like they tweak their ratings on individual players to keep the rankings somewhat how they expect them to be. At this point in the year, I don’t understand why they are even adjusting player ratings, since the season is long over. Only reason has to be to tweak their final standings.

        • I don’t really care about the rankings, I do remain curious of what Andersen will do if say another 7-8 guys with offers want to sign. With some of the late OL offers, you never know.

Do they have room to count backwards? Are any of these guys possible grey shirt candidates?

        • I like dunns video he looks really solid.

So imo i think tyler and cotton r silent commits. Which means this class needs OL best player available and to be retained obviously. No major issues other than the ol.

    • Barring any unforeseen, flips en masse, I feel more comfortable with our DB/S positions this go around as well as Wide Receiver, with the understanding that the incoming class will need to be developed.

Jamire Calvin would be nice, but I soured on him when he announced on national television to later renege on it — understand that he is a young man and talented athlete; he should go where he feels he will develop to his best potential.

I noticed that all our recruits we are pursuing or have gotten commits from on the offensive line, are listed as tackles? Will some of these be moved to other positions? With the understanding we needed to recruit JUCO players this year, we seem to pursuing bigger bodied linemen than in the past, or if not heavier, ones that have the frame to put on more weight? This was one of the points Coach Andersen said he wanted to do.

Center remains a concern for me.

I’d like 2 RB for this recruiting cycle; one would be okay.

Of these names, prefer Green, Falaniko, Tyler & Moore; it seems like Green & Tyler are the more likely of the two?

  15. Just checked on the Beaver site for 2017 and we currently have a total of 12 OL:
Delp, Houston, Hopkins, Lavaka, Lauina, Moore, Fifita, Brandel, Yanni D, Curtius, and couple of Walk ons.

On the verbal commit list is:
    Justin Sattelmeir
    Brock Wellsfry
    Travis Mackay

Making it a potential of 15 with some hope to get one more (JUCO OL Tanis Joseph that just visited)

    2016 Roster Depth at OL.
    UW – 17
    Utah – 17
    WSU – 18
    Colorado – 18
    Oregon State – 18

I’m curious as to what the OL coach says about having razor thin depth on the line. I hope Gina does that interview with the him soon since they’re about to have less depth than last year.

It’s obvious they’re concentrating on the skill positions, but it’s really concerning when comparing the depth on other PAC teams, even those that are full “Air Raid” (WSU). Since our running game is supposed to be our bread and butter, it really makes wonder why they’re not concentrating more. I do remember GA mentioning when he came on that OSU had too many OL on scholarship. So maybe he’s planning to fill depth with preferred Walk-ons?

The way it looks now… if there are any injuries next year on the line, there’s no way we’re going to build on last year.

    • Experience is the problem, a few of those guys played some last year and should now know what it takes. I would expect with this added year in the system along with another year of maturity, strength and conditioning we will see some breakout stars. At least that’s my optimistic view.

    • Pretty sure Curtius is a walkon. GA said he wants between 16-18 OL. Right now we are 3 short and I think this is a focus right now in recruiting and with the new OL scholarship offers you can see it. They lost some battles in OL recruiting and won some. Right now they have some depth they need to fill out.

I personally am more concerned about depth than quality. We have returning starting experience at every line position. Obviously quality is still a concern though, as we graduated 3 good linemen.

  16. I wonder if the plan is to play Houston at center? Seems like a smart and rugged kid with lot’s of playing experience. Plus he will have a unique understanding of defensive fronts, which would help with line calls.

  17. Does anyone have updates on either Wallace or Gracia? I think Gracia was caught up in a academic scandal at his former high school. Not his fault I believe but the school rather was under investigation. Anyone have information on that. Thanks in advance.

    • I haven’t heard a word about an academic scandal, but the football prgram was investigated for recruiting players. Isaac has been pretty vocal about it being untrue. He was one of the guys who got a lot of attention through it because he moved in from out of the area and was a senior that year. I don’t have all the facts, but those are the basics I remember reading about.

    • Thanks for the link. Looks like there were many red flags, including academic concerns. Interesting that academics seem to be the reason Garcia didn’t get to be prt of the program last year. Looks like that is in the past and he is now full speed ahead.

  18. Appears we’re sending GA and Chad to Samoa to recruit Falaniko. That’s pretty serious dedication, sending the head coach clear out there when time is limited before signing day

  19. Wonder how Oregon will spin their TE coach getting a DUII as a positive?
With the workout thing, they were just building up a tolerance for pain, so they’d be tougher next year.
Maybe this guy was just building up his tolerance for alcohol? What’s the harm in that?

It’s a pretty bad look when you have to fire 2 staffers within their first month on the job, and for separate reasons. Who’s next?
#DoSomething (unless it will get you fired)

    • And some Ducks fans on O-live act like none of injured players or bad coaches really did anything wrong. It’s really sad what some folks will tolerate as long as they win.

    • New job, new town and one of his first calls to order is to get real drunk and drive around Eugene. Makes sense to me. Good luck with everything Quacks, Taggart seems like the perfect higher.

    • Their fans are spinning it like look how up front & honest we are. We set a great example by firing him. I went into enemy territory today (Oregon ducks on 24/7) and that’s what they were saying. What’s unbelievable to me is that after last year and this year’s screw ups they still think they are so much better than OSU. Totally Clueless!

    • Yay, a 2 star guy who is mission bound. /sarc

Class is starting to freak me out. They’re going for really low end guys to fill it out. Not a good sign.

      • I look at the number of guys who have been considered 4* on one or more sites so far. Hodgins, Evans, Morris, TJ Green. ( I put Kolby Taylor in their too, because of his lineage and skill level as a junior in hs)
Then look at guys we are 50/50 on landing who are also potential 4*(D.Green, Falaniko, Moore)
That’s a pretty good crop of guys when compared to any other Riley class.
Then we have a bunch of 3* guys filling most of the other spots, and 1 or 2 2* guys. Seems pretty solid for a team that finished with 4 wins.
Up the win total again this year, and then we can expect more, but I feel like this class is exceeding my expectations.

I think about Colorado when they first entered the Pac. The first few years their classes weren’t very good, but lately theyve been recruiting with the top half of the Pac teams. I feel like that is where we will be in a year or 2.

      • I’m seeing 3*, he’s serviceable. Not a lot of pass block film on him, run blocking isn’t bad. He keeps his pad level low on his first step, that’s good. His hands seem to be ok.

          • It would have to be spring term, but after spring ball. They have spring ball early because they can get a full strength and conditioning cycle in spring term, which from what I understand the coaching staff felt was more important for spring enrollees than spring practice. The idea was that building size, strength and speed was needed as soon as possible and at the same time and in fall you can teach plays and technique.

      • The 2015 mission guys are still on mission, so maybe next year you’ll hear more.
Fangupo never qualified academically i believe, which was a risk from day 1.
I have been curious about Taylor Thomas, but last I checked he was still in JC and it didnt sound like we were in much, if any, contact with him.

  20. Does anyone know how many of our commits/signees/key targets were committed to Wash St at one point? I know Hodgins, Watson, and Moore for sure. I’m curious because I work with a diehard Coug fan…

  21. Although I’m concerned about losing about 10 OL targets by now, I do think there is hope on 2 points:
Gus Lavaka was a last minute add late during the signing period last year and he is going to be a returning starter for 4 years(?).
TJ Woods has had good results historically with building the oline. This is year 3 for some of the guys in the GA system/program who should be ready to step up.

Perhaps Fifita is ready to step in this year, he was highly regarded. I do hope they can get G Moore, but maybe they swing for the fences on OL next year. Last year was heavy on de/lb, this year is wr/cb, next yr ol/dl?

Look at USC’s commits and they have 6 big OL/DL guys coming in, might be a good year to emphasize those positions next year.

Can the Beavs get any OL guys from Chandler, AR? They must have some good oline players for all of these skill guys we are getting.

  22. Kahuku’s Ah-Hoy torn between UH, Oregon State
by CHRISTIAN SHIMABUKU on JANUARY 21, 2017

The parents really should have named the kid Chip. #fail

  23. So, Beavs are up to 22 commits (21 when you deduct the mission guy) plus it seems Cotton is a virtual lock so call it 22 total with a bunch of offers to some guys they clearly badly want.

Does this mean they plan to over sign by a few? Do they take some offers back? Do they anticipate losing several of their current commits?

I like the class, a top 40 class with only 6 wins in 2 years is pretty good.

  24. “Commitments” in football are ridiculous. The sports equivalent of a promise ring made of paper. They need another word besides “commit”.
