  1. biggest concern with Fehmel pitching today is that he must hit his spots in the corners and keep the ball down in the zone. If the past few games for umpiring is any indication, the ump will not give us the low zone or corners. If that happens, it forces Fehmel to pitch higher in the zone and that’s going to be the issue since he’s not a power pitcher.

The umps behind the plate and in the field have not done the beavers any favors. It’s tough when you have to battle the other team and the umpires. I think the beavers win a slugfest to the tune of 12-9 although the umps will do their best to make sure MSU comes out on top

  2. it appears we are putting Jack Anderson back into Center Field today. I do not like this move at all, why don’t we put the speedy Jones in??

    • At least he got the next batter to strikeout. But first impression it looks like a super tight strike zone as expected. Going to be a tough game for us.

  3. 1-0 bad guys as Jack Andersen in CF costs us a run. Good job by the guy who mentioned it above. Casey wart starting this bozo. Fairly easy play he botches.

  4. Facepalm. THAT right there is why I wrote in a previous thread that Preston Jones should be in CF not Anderson.

      • I don’t recall ever saying that Casey doesn’t have any flaws. All coaches do.

For the record I also think that you gotta find a way to have Tyler Malone’s bat in the lineup every game.

I realize he’s playing now but where was he down the stretch? Regional? Super regional?

    • He didn’t learn from last game, but let’s see if he learns from that play and puts Jones in to start the 2nd. He should. But he won’t, is my guess.

  5. Already down by 1 — guy should have never got on base. Hopefully that inning lights a fire in Fehmel — he needs to be a whole lot better than that.

  6. Larnach with the blunder there. Lucky Adley didn’t get thrown out too.

Generally the rule is if a runner if front of you is in a rundown, you advance to the base he occupied but Grenier was tagged out quickly and larnach is too slow to advance there.

Beavs should tee off on this pitcher assuming the ump doesn’t expand the zone. I can see why ESPN doesn’t use their k zone here. Umpires are much more inconsistent that MLB umps.

    • Adley was within 3-4 ft of second on the second tag out…I don’t know why he didn’t just go to second on that one? MSU thought they got the 3rd out and he would have been safe at second. moot since we hit a grounder to 1st for the 3rd out.

  7. It appears Fehmel is trying to paint the corners and the 3 fly balls this inning are low over the plate pitches all hit to Jack Anderson. Let’s just try and continue that trend. Onto the bottom of the 2nd!

    • MSU has two very good arms left in Gordon and Small. Gotta get to that 6 run mark to win it, even if Abel does well, he will give up 3-4 runs. Hopefully he can do that and get to the 7-8th inning.

    • MSU has two very good arms left in Gordon and Small. Abel will need to keep it under 5 runs through 6-7 innings to give the Beaver O a chance.
      6-5 flip a coin.

  8. I agree that I’d go Jones in CF over Anderson but I imagine the reasoning behind playing Anderson was to get another left handed bat in the order. I got to think if there is a tomorrow Jones gets the start, but who knows.

  9. Bryce is up to 52 pitches now. Man on 2nd no outs Top of the 4th. Eisert is warming up in the Bullpen per Mike Parker.

  10. Fehmel comes out after fielding a bunt hit up the middle to him to get the 2nd out. Now it’s up to Eisert to go deep to allow Mullholland to get in 2-3 Innings as the closer. I did say, we needed Fehmel to go deep into the 4th Inning without getting his pitch count up, and he has done just that. Here we go!

    • He’ll get a shot somewhere but his defense holds him back. Plus he has some injury history that is concerning. Bat isn’t good enough to make up for the defense.

It’s basically why wainhouse from uw wasn’t drafted. He’s a dh. Teams don’t draft DHs.

      • Schwarber is a DH playing LF. It happens. There are a few dozen guys who have no business being in the field.

And there are some atrocious MLB players. Have you seen Lewis Brinson and Byron Buxton stats? Both 1st rounders, I think. So, it’s a crap shoot.

        • Schwarber was a catcher in college. These guys are primarily dh in college. Atrocious MLB defenders are plus defenders in college.

  11. So yesterday, Grenier gets spiked in the knee and no call from the Ump. We slide straight through the bag, spikes down, and get called out at first for it.

    Seems about right.

  12. Zak Taylor, the “other” Sherwood kid! 2 RBI’s on his first career triple.
9-2 good guys………..pull Eisert to save him for later??

  13. Who would have thought we’d be one game from the championship series after LH and BF both having two outings that haven’t reached the 4th inning.

  14. Eisert finishes with 72 pitches, 5.1 1 hit innings.

Does the mental lift of finishing offset the 15+ pitches which could have been thrown by others?

Does the lack of playing time today for Chamberlain, Tweedt, Gambrell and/or Britton effect their potential for the rest of the season?

Couple “maybe’s” there to think about.

One thing sure, Beavs have several arms which the bulldogs have not faced at all.

  15. Abel should get the nod tomorrow.

Everyone but eisert should be available with no limits.

    Should go
    Start – Abel
    Bullpen – Chamberlain, Mulholland, Pearce.

Game plan is the same tomorrow. Get out ahead early and don’t let them hang around. Thats their mo, if it’s close at the end, they will rally.

  16. Didn’t get to watch the game but listened to the ESPNU radio post game. Boy they are beside themselves about the beavs winning. Some gal with an SEC type drawl was going on and on about “never in a million years would I have thought MSU would have lost this game. I thought it was a done deal”.

  17. Powers that be are trying, right now, to come up with a plan to stop the beavs. An Arkansas/Miss State final is their dream.

    • Cracks me up. They stack the tournament withACC and SEC teams to the detriment of the other power 5 conferences, and then act surpised when they get an absurd amount of SEC teams in the CWS. 50% of the 4 PAC teams got into the CWS, to 27% of the 11 SEC, to 16.6% of the 6 ACC. The SEC has backed up the imbalance with championships, although some would argue that the home cooking in the south eastern regionals enables a large number of SEC teams to make the Supers. When Florida gets Columbia, Jacksonville, and Florida Atlantic after getting swept by MSU and then essentially quitting the SEC tournament to rest their players — something wrong here??? When Beavs were #1 in 2014, they got saddled with UC Irvine, a program that has had 8 tournament appearances, and now 2 CWS appearances — clearly the west coast teams are disabling each other from making the tournament when the committee limits the amount the West can have by a wide margin compared to the South. Guess how many CWS appearances Columbia, Jacksonville, and FAU have??? I’m already getting worked up for next years snub, so enjoy this team as much as you can!!!!

    • MSU has two very good arms left in Gordon and Small. Gotta get to that 6 run mark to win it, even if Abel does well, he will give up 3-4 runs. Hopefully he can do that and get to the 7-8th inning

  18. Saturday’s game set to start at 5 local, 3 Pacific.
Weather predicted to be high 70’s with scattered T-showers around an hour into the game. 20-40% chance of rain, humidity in the 60’s.
    No complaints.

Now the umps?………likely complaints, unless Beav batters take most decisions out of their hands by not looking at anything close for third strikes.

    • I’d take the same umps we had last game. They seemed the most consistent we have had since arriving at Omaha. I do believe they will do everything to the beavs early and get MSU some gifts. Wasn’t enough to help unc knock them out though.

      • You look at the number of beaver walks and you can tell what their pitches are used to. SEC umps must always have a huge zone. I don’t think anyone in this field out slugs this beaver team if they have to pitch strikes.

        • Remember the comment from LSU about “west coast baseball and how they play out there.”?

I think the umps are getting used to the idea that these Beaver hitters actually know the strike zone. Some of these umps call games for pretty undisciplined hitting teams that don’t necessarily wait out a pitcher during an at bat. LSU went up hacking away when it only compounded their problems.

Maybe the tide has turned in the Beavs favor after 4 games of consistent hitting no matter what the umps tried to call strikes. Also, if ESPN announcers are acknowledging a wide zone from last year, Angrybeavs has again fulfilled the role of pushback pressure. Now a “wide zone” isn’t quite agreeing that it was ripped from them, but it is close. Keep up the good work…

I wonder if Gambrell goes on Monday if they win today? Least pressurized start of the final 3, gamble for his stuff to finally pay-off against a team unfamiliar with him, at least for 3 innings.

  19. Just thought I’d share this, lol… on Monday, when the Beavs were playing Washington, people at work were checking the score, and acting like OSU had already lost. “They had a good season this year, anyway.” I was working, so I wasn’t checking my phone, and I believed them, lol… Then of course, we know what happened.

  20. Did ESPN ever use some type of “k-zone” thing for college baseball in looking at balls/strikesl? I think the overhead shot seems to have gone the way of the dinosaur. I thought that was one of the best angles to see the strike zone. It certainly showed that Maddux and Glavine made a living four inches off of the outside corner. Of course, with SEC umps it’s more like six inches when the opponent is up to bat.

  21. I’m going to be gone most of the day, but hopefully home by game time. If the mods want feel free to start a new thread for today’s game. Catch you later and Go Beavs.

  22. OT: Angry, you will like this. Last night I run into a guy I know who is a Fresno State grad. First thing he says to me. “Why the fuck did Oregon State run off Marcus McMaryion. He was awesome last year.” Had to fill him in about psycho Gary.

      • I liked him after I saw his HS recruiting videos and even more when he led the Beavs to the 34-24 win over the schmucks. With him at QB last year, Beavs probably win 4 maybe 5 games or even more.

    • We are. Just posted about it on Twitter @ESPN.
No way the umps let us win. Guess we’ll have to swing at balls to win, unlike we were willing to do vs LSU.

  23. I read a Register Guard article that said Christian Chamberlain was getting the start today. Is that already known?

“Christian Chamberlain (3-0) will get the start Saturday and look to buck the trend of short starts for the Beavers. They’ll again face Mississippi State (39-28) but this time the winner will advance to the championship series.”

  24. Seems Mr. Small has big confidence, this from the Clarion Ledger:
“”I think they can swing it as good as any team here,” Small said. “I don’t think they are anything incredibly special. We put them on (base) 11 times free today, so if you look at that, they probably should have scored as many runs as they did.
“Fill the zone up, throw off-speed for strikes and just get them out.”

From the same article, a little humor, on the hopes of MSU after the Beavs pulled away yesterday, “…hope was that perhaps the Bulldogs could put together enough offense to eat up some of Oregon State’s bullpen.
Instead, the only Beaver with a sore arm tomorrow is going to be third base coach Andy Jenkins, who spent the whole game waving runners around third like a windmill.”

    https://www.clarionledger.com/story/sports/college/mississippi-state/2018/06/22/oregon-state-pounds-msu-12-2-set-up-winner-take-all-game-saturday/726277002/

        • Here’s a stretch to explain what I agree was a dangerous and unnecessary move, exposing Kwan to possible re-injury:
In the pregame radio Casey was bothered by Kwan’s apparent social media mention of the strength of the Beavs offense. It’s possible that (remember, Kwan is one of the top emotional leaders of this team) Casey felt he had been hard on the kid and gave him playing time to heal any possible hurt feelings.

So many aspects of decisions of which fans and announcers are unaware.

For the record, I didn’t mind the AB for Kwan, feeling it keeps him sharp to face “live” pitches; but the move to put him in CF was something I felt was wart worthy at best.

    • Yeah no shit!!! I turned it off after Mulholland beaned that guy w/ 200 avg and 0-2 count. WTF!!! Mulholland showing a lot of nerves there….but really didn’t want Heimlich to come in — still too much pressure on him.

      • You lasted longer then me. I turned it off after the second walk. Msu had 7 of the last 11 as walk-off wins. It was shaping to be a heartbreaker. Why was Able pulled, was he getting loose?

    • How would you feel as a MSU player when the Ump called a beav by his first name (think it was Kyle Nobach) in telling him to get back in the batters box?

Looked to be an evenly called game to me.

      • I wasnt being sarcastic. Yesterday’s ump called a better game. Today’s ump was a bit off here and there, but overall went both ways. Agreed.

    • No self respecting sports fan is going to wear a banana suit or tie a rotten banana to his hat and believe that it is a rally symbol. The sports gods weren’t going to allow such idiocy to continue. Now the questions is whether ESPNSEC allows the Beavs a legit shot at the title or is it automatically to be given to the razorbacks. In general, Arkansas is the backwater university for the SEC so we might have a shot. I’d guess most SEC universities probably are ashamed of Arkansas being there still.

Starters will be interesting since Luke and Bryce are both short on days rest and haven’t looked real good yet in Omaha. Gambrel for game 1, just to see if he has any magic for an inning or 2?

  25. “Nothing special ” MSU pitcher takes the loss.

Sadly, I have to report on CNN.com. There is a link saying…MLB team may sign child molester.

    Here we go….

  26. Arkansas and Oregon State shared several common opponents this year. LSU, Miss St, Arizona, Southern Cal, Cal Poly, and Univ San Diego. Oregon State went 10-3 vs these teams while Arkansas went 4-9.

  27. Great win, glad to get back to the finals.

BUT, Arkansas looks like the real deal. If OSU thinks they’re going to get another Mississippi State this weekend, they’re in for a big surprise. Beaver pitchers better get they’re crap figured out and start throwing like aces or we’re screwed.

I predict that whoever wins Game 1 wins it all.

    Go Beavs!

  28. After poking around the interwebs, I can say with 99% certainty that MSU fans are orders of magnitude better than LSU assdouches.

  29. I lost track of our rotations rest days and pitch counts from last appearances. Did anyone keep track?

What are we looking like for games on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday? Thanks.

    • Actually set up okay but with a tired staff. Heimlich, Fehmel and then a TBD. Abel may be able to throw again on Wednesday but doubt he would be available for more than an inning or two.

      • Don’t forget Chamberlain and Brandon or Tweedt or even Gambrell. At this point, your pitching doesn’t have to be great, it just needs to be good enough. I think the Beavs confidence is sky-high given they came back through the loser’s bracket, knocked of the media’s tourney darling, didn’t have great starting pitching except from Abel and minus Kwan, and still got it done against arguably the hottest team in the tourney. I think the Beavers are on a mission and won’t be satisfied until that mission is completed. No dog pile or visible signs of demonstrative celebrating after they game. This team knows and understands what their final goal is and that’s what they are waiting to celebrate.

Pat Casey has been in this position and knows how to manage his pitching staff. Yeskie will have his staff prepared mentally and physically to go. Remember, under MSU’s current head coach, they’ve not been in this position before. At this point, experience is a significant factor in keeping your team focused and not overwhelmed by the moment. I trust Pat Casey’s experience will be a big advantage and the team’s motivation for overcoming so much consternation will be what drives them to the championship.

    • Given that Luke or Bryce haven’t made it beyond 70 pitches in each of their two outings, I think their arms are pretty fresh. Chamberlain hasn’t thrown much, Pierce hasn’t thrown much and Eisert hasn’t thrown a bunch, Tweedt not at all or same with Gambrell. If we can get thru the 6th inning with our starters, I think we have enough in the bullpen to get it done. Adding Kwan back to the lineup and CF is going to be a huge plus for the Beavers as he’s the catalyst for the offense although the offense performed exceptionally well in his absence. And, defensively, the Beavers will be so much more effective in the outfield. If this team does what it does best and that is to defend, get ’em on, get ’em over, and get ’em in, and then get good enough pitching, they can win this tourney and the national championship. We shall see, we shall see. Go Beavs!

  30. For what it’s worth, MSU swept Arkansas in a closely fought series earlier in the year. Beavs will be in a real d/hog fight — Arkansas has advantage with rested starting pitching. Gonna need one of their starters to shit the bed.

        • Third time is a dilly of a fucking charm. Luke has already admitted he was into his own head the first two outings. That’s half fhe freaking battle is acknowledging you’re over-thinking it. It’s like fucking golf. get up to the ball, address it and then hit it down the fucking pipe. Same thing with pitching…throw the ball where they can’t fucking hit it and don’t overthink it. Do what you’ve been
coached to do from little league on up and that is to get the batters out plain and simple. Do what you do and do it best and it won’t matter about the batters.

      • Most comments seemed sympathetic to Luke. BT is outside her zone of influence here. When somebody’s life story reads like a Steinbeckian power-struggle, you’ve got to be at least a little skeptical; that the truth lies a little deeper. People empathize asking the hypothetical: if that was my daughter; but what if that was your son? What if those two were your family?
Loved the “ban the box” comment regarding one of the authors previous write-ups.

      • Yeah, the one comment was astute in asking what Brenda Tracy has to do with this case, but there was another substitute in the comments with the guy who was abused at church ranting about how damaging Heimlich’s denials were to the victim (who does not remember anything). No mention, that Heimlich has denied it from the beginning and passed polygraph tests. It’s time for some journalist to take a deep dive on the Mom and the timeline and end this sensational fodder for media hacks.

  31. I’m sure BT and the bald headed fuck are gritting their teeth that the team is in the finals. What makes it even better is that LH has been largely ineffective and not really a story line worth following in the CWS (i wish he was doing better). So now they just sound like screaming children with the “wins are the only thing that matters” bullshit. It makes you wonder if any of this would be diffrent if LH was a Sunday starter at 8-7 and a 5+ era.

  32. Dilly fucking Dilly….DolphinII Boy and Brenda Tracy both have their panties in a bunch over this. You know the only thing better so far would be if LH came out and pitched a no-hitter on Monday. If that happened, he’d probably ask Brenda to go down on him and she’d probably have a hard time saying “yes” with her mouth half full. Suck it Brenda and Johnny Dophin BoyII grow a pair.

  33. Good interview. Arkansas pitcher looks like a serial killer. Arkansas headcoach seems like a genuine nice guy (unlike Riley). I love Casey. Funny A@A thinks I dislike him. Noting a guy has some major warts doesn’t = dislike.

    • I don’t think anyone on here understands what your issues with Casey is. Is he 100% perfect, no, who is… he’s the best coach in the country. You blame him for any mistake, and give him credit for almost nothing. It’s weird. But maybe not that weird, cuz it’s you and you are weird.

    • Thanks for posting the video F nemec. It seems like Arkansas has all of the obvious advantages with their rotation set and being rested and undefeated in Omaha. But Casey has a fire and experience of being through this already. Arkansas players have been sitting in hotel rooms for 3 days, skipped a day of practice, and have lots of family in town that they are distracted by during all of their off time.

I think the Beavs will chase their starter by the 4th inning and Beavs win it all on Tuesday night. Arkansas coach sounds happy to just be there, while the Beavs are focused to be there and win.

Have any of these SEC friday night guys been nearly as good as Stanford’s, UCLA,s, UW’s, Cal’s, even UofO? Beavs beat them all, correct?

  34. Oh no, the local fox station is in Omaha and showed the beavs having a water balloon fight after battling practice today. Do we start calling him Pat Riley or Mike Casey?

  35. Been out all weekend. Anybody have any links to replays of the Miss St games?

Also, looks like Nemec’s twitter account has been hacked. If you’re blocked, you can view it by logging out and following this link.

Check out Andrew Nemec (@NemecSmellsShit): https://twitter.com/NemecSmellsShit?s=09

(And no, it’s definitely not me)

  36. That was quite the game. Did not care for the pucker factor last out.

OT: Beav ‘19 baseball recruit named Wisconsin POY by PBR…..that’s not the beer BTW.
    Wisconsin

    Jack Washburn, RHP, Webster (2019)
    Commitment: Oregon State

  37. So what’s the skinny on football recruiting?

    This is what I know:
Bill Musgrave’s nephew committed as a TE.
We got a DT from Mater Dei.
We got a couple LBs from somewhere.
We don’t have a QB yet.
We’re not stacking up on WR’s.
People here are generally upbeat about the momentum.

  38. I didn’t click on it, but I noticed that it took The Oregonian two days to post their “Royals interested in Heimlich” article. That long of a delay seems a little odd to me given how Heimlich and The Beavs are the Oregon sports news cycle right now. Would they have an agenda in not being excited to run a balanced and hopeful story on Heimlich?

  39. This week the team faces its toughest challenge yet: winning a championship after a Rileyesque water balloon fight! Are they up to the task?

  40. Let’s see if Luke can finally step up to the big time tonight. There’s no real pressure here. No op eds against him playing, no protests outside the stadium, no extra media in town, no heckling from the stands, just between the ears. Outside of Luke and Bryce, everyone else has stepped up. Wonder if Malone will be in the lineup tonight with Kwan set to return.

It’s possible that this could be Luke’s last time playing a meaningful baseball game for a while.

  41. Weather delay. Looks like officials expect weather to come near game time since it’s not raining now.

Would be real nice if they delayed the game an hour. Let all the west coast people get home to watch.
