With Zack Moss upgraded to probable I’m going Utah 35, Oregon State 24. Prove me wrong with a great game plan, Tibesar. We’ve seen the Beavs finish versus a bad Pac-12 team, but until we see them finish versus a good one it’s hard to go Beavs. Should be some energy in the building with homecoming, a lot of recruits, etc, so maybe some October magic happens.
The Luton Scale might not be in play afterall. I won’t able to document down, distance, and time for each play since I’m sick and will be lying down/commenting from the phone. If someone is commenting from a laptop and has good typing skills please step up and document the plays. Thanks!
Go Beavs.
Furst!
Am I alone in thinking these helmets don’t look very good? It’s like my 4 year old tried to slap a sticker on the helmet and didn’t take the time to smooth out the air pockets.
https://twitter.com/BeaverFootball/status/1183155654451531776?s=19
For the half-assed helmets, I’m going with a half-assed score of Utah 42, Beavs 21.
Those helmets look like clip art.
What’s the vibe like in the stadium, for those of you there?
I’m not there, but this video posted 10 minutes ago makes it look even more empty than the past few games. But i have no idea if the video was shot more than 10 minutes ago?
https://twitter.com/Davefox2/status/1183167389581447168?s=19
Maybe 2/3 full. Normal (not intimidating) vibe.
there seemed to be more students than were present for the Stanford game
Avery Roberts is out
Jefferson and Tago are also both not dressed
They should put some clothes on.
That’s worth, like, 10 pts.
Bummer
Who’s the backup? Speights?
You guys read paragraph two? I can’t do Luton scale in terms of typing down, distance, time, result. Too sick. If someone can we’ll go for it.
Sorry man between kids, business and my sick prego wife there’s no way I can.
i can’t watch closely enough to follow Luton’s passes throughout the game. too many distractions at my house
Same
42-35 OSU! Luton goes full hero 22-32 307 yards and 3 TD. AP/Baylor combine for 207 and and 2 td. Rodriguez gets a 57 yd strip and return for td on a punt.
Gebbia does an awesome job signalling and taking notes.
What can I say I’m optimistic.
Your optimism has gone nuclear…
Well played haha
Lots of Retro Benny on TV
Proper Retro Benny at midfield…
I hope luton channels ucla luton this game.
Utah’s dine has a clear size advantage over the beavs.
Bullshit play calls right off the bat
those were the scripted plays. Imagine how this will look later in the game.
At least we didn’t give up on the run before the game started.
Luton pass 1: 0
This is going to get ugly fast.
yep. Finally get to see the Beavs play a decent team and the talent gap is really apparent.
Roberts is a huge loss
Dosnt look like it mattered much.
no secondary coverage, hot knife through butter defensive line, terrible tackling, start is about as bad as it gets
5 for Huntly on that TD…
Anyone else notice Jalen Moore (33) seems on the edge of losing his cool out there?
Flemmings is going to break a return one of these games.
Luton pass 2: 5
Luton pass 3: 4
Kipper showing his inexperience.
Luton pass 4: 1
2,5 avg so far
In Luton defense the corner blitzed and was not blocked. Happened right in front of me.
Luton pass 5: 1
Rodriguez’ leg is going to be tired after tonight
Really need a stop here
Well he stopped when he got to the end zone.
Anytime there is pressure on Luton he collapses lol. I mean, I would too but if I was Utah I’d blitz every time.
Need to continue the screen game. kippers penalties cost us that drive.
That dude gets like 3-4 flags a game
We look like shit. Utah will score 70
Retro Benny, retro point differential?
Got to get Gebbia in now, need mobility for quarterback or its over before it gets started. How bad is our tackling, o my
Cue the Bad News Bears theme song.
Who the fuck is 21 and why did he overrun that play so badly
Clearly he had no idea where the ball was, even though it was right in front of him
Wow
There looked like a hold on the DB on that 95+ yard TD.
Outmatched completely
First time listening to Mike Parker in years. Decades of bad football have clearly taken their toll. Dude needs some anti-depressants.
Then Wilson just jogs it out, what a pussy
Luton pass 6: 1
Luton pass 7: 4
Luton pass 8: 1
Is kippers trying to get every penalty known to football today?
Kipper’s going for the holding record today
Luton pass 9: 4
Out to dinner. Checked score. 14-0 already and Moss has 115 yards. Holy crap.
bout to be 28-0 by the time you have dessert
It’s worse than it looks.
If this is “homecoming,” I guess Utah is the main character in “Mad Men,” OSU the wife?!?
Game plan for today was to showcase Rodríguez’s Ray Guy campaign.
and Huntley’s Heisman campaign
was there any doubt that the outcome of forcing Utah into a 4th and 7 from the 30 would be a touchdown?
Fuck our dbs literally just run next to people. He didnt even try to do anything.
It’s like bad video game programming.
NO pressure on 4th and 7, TD pass….wow.
I don’t get it, just let him have all day to throw
Any momentum this team gained last week is gone. My not win another game this season.
How in the fuck can Utah of all schools recruit such vastly superior players? It’s fucking embarrassing.
state of Utah has pretty good local talent and for whatever reason, those kids don’t like to leave the state. Maybe because they’re already married with children by the time they graduate high school?
Yeah, how does Utah recruit so well considering it’s fucking Utah LOL?!
My connection is being a bit iffy. If I miss any just copy/paste this format “Luton Pass #:” and fill it in for me.
Game is over already … yaaawwwwnnnnn.
Luton pass 10: 4
Im prepping for colonoscopy on monday, nice to watch whole beaver team also shit themselves
Luton pass 11: 2
that was pretty blatant interference by the Ute defender (if this was the Hodgins pass?)
Grabbed Hodgins collar as he jumped for the ball and well before the ball arrived.
Luton pass 12: 5
I feel like Lindsey had been open a few times
Johnson probably read Hodgjn’s eyes..plus, predictable pass…
Luton pass 13: 4 or 5 not sure
horrible play calling, and way to predictable to always pass to Hodgins
The offense is pass to Hodgins or let Pierce run like a coward.
Luton pass 14: 2
Parker done giving excuses to Choker
#signoftheendtimes
Way to go Choker, good coaching Smith. This all sucks
Was there any doubt on the field goal? I mean really.
Luton pass 15: 4 based on our scale but seems to high for that bad screen.
Tackler was unblocked. Luton doesnt have a choice and he got the ball in the right spot. It’s a 4
giving up yards when within our kicker’s limited field goal range to force a longer try is very Beaver football
Ok enough of this choker shit. This is crazy
Welp, hoping this is going to be a tale of two halfs and we can keep them within striking distance
Man, choukair’s head just isn’t right, looked dazed walking off the field. Feel bad for the kid, he knows he’s kicking poorly and keeps getting trotted out on the field
Smith thinks he’s done right by the guy by continuing to send him out there, not realizing that in fact he’s actually tormenting him by expecting him to do something that he is clearly not able to do.
Yeah I’m kind of worried about him…
Kipper and Choker need to find new jobs. Kipper is fucking awful.
Utah is on another level, especially on the lines. Apart from hodgins, I don’t think we have anyone that would start for them.
Beavs have a ways to go.
“Yeah, how does Utah recruit so well considering it’s fucking Utah LOL?!”
Since joining the Pac, Utah has been ranked in 6 of 9 years, with a high of #3, and a low of #20. These are not end-of-season rankings however. 4-1 in bowl games, losing Holiday Bowl, only decent bowl they went to. Wittingham is the longest tenured coach in the Pac 12.
Kipper is having an awful game. Missing blocks, holding, false starts.
his opponent was just flying by him, often without making any contact. it was brutal to watch
How does Utah of all states field decent teams year after year?
Golden jock straps.
LMFAO!
2 minute response, you can’t be too sick, buddy!
I’m trying.
Comedy never sleeps.
Is that the new Neil Young album?
OK, we’re not surprised a decent team with a good CB tries to take Hodgins away…is the coaching staff?
Who is going to step forward and make plays? Need more than one to do so…
Luton pass 16: 5
I do like how Luton slides with his foot out
Never kick it again
Luton pass 17: 5
Hodgins didn’t seal the outside on that wide right run.
Get Luton the fuck out of there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is dumb. That was a timing pass. No way there should have been 4 Utah guys in the backfield immediately after the snap. It’s like they new the play. Luton is playing well.
Beavs are way overmatched.
Well there it is.
Luton pass 18: 0
Edit: Possibly-1 or -6 lol
We didnt qualify a pick 6. Maybe going forward its -1?
where does pick 6 fall on the scale?
We have it at 0 but agree it’s too kind.
-6, clearly
Luton pass 18: – 6
Nicebeaver I’m guessing it’s safe to say this was not a great weekend to have bunch of recruits visiting. Luck O the Beavs
Should have had them all in for Cal Poly
Pick six is worth 6!
A 6′ 6″ QB who consistently gets his passes batted down is eventually going to pay the price.
What sucks is Gebbia might be thrown in a terrible situation second half, instead of a tractable problem like @ Hawaii….
They should put Gebbia in for Kipper. Can’t be any worse.
Maybe Choukair could do well in Kippers spot?
Hes 6’7″, and your kidding yourself if you think this coaching staff will make a change until the last 5 minutes. Fuck they keep putting in a kid that cant kick in every chance they get.
Good point, haha. Ride or die
Staff wont want to leave Jake in when Utes can just pin their ears back, have to avoid getting him injured
ESPN just showed that pick 6 on the Florida LSU game….we are famous!!!
Or infamous.
So is this bad for recruiting or good? We have like 15-20 dudes in town. Lots of starting positions up for grabs!
Bad for recruiting if any of the visitors have utah offers
Guys are like I can start.
It’s only 6:30 PST, go enjoy your evenings!
Never seen Luton run so fast
Luton pass 19: 4 or 5 need help
5
Luton pass 20: 1
Luton pass 21: 1
Luton pass 22: again 4 or 5 wasn’t lead ideally to run after catch
Anyone else drinking? Gone thru a Growler of Legend Cider already ha ha
Got 8 Oz of straight whiskey next to my hand lol
Might be time for some caddy shack cannonballs
That was brutal
Great play call stupid
What a shitty play on 4th down.
not that it matter much at this point, but why go for it on 4th down in your own territory? especially when within 2 minutes?
To let the other team easily score again.
They may have time to turn it into 2 scores if we think it’s a good time to pass it, haha
To find their identity *mike riley voice*
What’s the over/under on fights going into the locker room?
At the game. Making Utah look like national champions. Utes have a lot of beef on both sides of the ball. Utah is very physical, and already have a player ejected for targeting. It is obvious Beavs are not used to this physical of a team. Refs are not helping either, Ute CBS are grabbing and handling receivers well after the line of scrimmage, and saw several non-call holding. Should be 21-0….
That bodes well for playing Cal next week.
I’ve downed three Breakers
Luton pass 23: 0
Wonder if they finally put Gebbia in the 3rd… maybe once they’re down by 50. Nah…
Luton pass 24: 5
Luton pass 25: 1
Luton pass 26: 5
1st down pass Luton completely locked on to Hodgins.
And throws it away.
Togai was wide open on that throw away
hes mega locked on hodgins
I’m all for a cool story and all… But I’ve seen enough of Champ Flemings. Lotta heart but too small for anything resembling physical play or YAC.
Annpuncer: is Luton getting locked on on Hodgins?
Luton pass 27: 5
“Is luton getting too locked in on hodgins”? Lol no not at all. Even though he accounts for 50% of our passing offense
Getting into FG range. Fantastic!!!
Bad sign
Choukair has a range?
Luton pass 28: 5
Edit: maybe 4
Was that to taylor
Yeah kind of had to jump
It looked like he was just trying to catch it in his body as opposed to grabbing with his hands. And it was right dead center. I’ll be nice and say a 5 only because he caught it on the run and didnt have to slow down.
Get Luton out of there
Hahaha field goal? Just throw a hail Mary. Fuck
Not gonna lie, I kindof wanted to see this end up with a 42 yard kick
oh, i get my wish!
oh boy, now we see why Choukair has been getting the kicks. that was almost out of bounds
Gutter ball!
4 lanes to the left of the intended lane.
Luton pass 29: 0
Oh look, kipper on the ground and his assignment tips the ball.
Sweet geebus, tipped again
Hey guys look! Our backup is also very bad!
Booooooooo Choker misses, Smith looking like a fool to let him keep wasting our time, What a stubborn guy
that was Hayes. Almost like Smith wanted to send us a message.
“See guys, it’s this bad!”
That was Hayes, I think we just saw why hes stubborn lol
FYI: FG attempt at end of half was NOT Choker.
At least we know why choukair keeps getting attempts
Is that guy the backup kicker?
Future looks bright.
We have that Jake Scarton guy coming through the transfer portal
Scarton is on the depth chart. He’s currently K3. I don’t think he’s our future.
OH…oh no =(
Hey they changed kickers. Or Choker traded Jerseys so they wouldn’t throw beer at him from the terrace
Eta: maybe wine instead of beer. No one want a pinot stain on their Jersey.
Pass batted down because Kipper is flat on his face with the D lineman’s balls on the back of his head.
Yup saw that. Kipper spends more time on the ground that floor tile.
Is Kipper the transfer that was supposed to be an upgrade?
I really hoped the Oline had developed confidence in the weak parts of the schedule to play better tonight.
Kipper was a transfer from Hawaii, not really an upgrade but he does decent run blocking. Eldridge was the big transfer at center but he got hurt again early and hasn’t really ever gotten into game shape.
BIG JIM was (is?) very high on Kipper’s potential. Guys like him are why it takes time to build a program, lots of patience required.
Big thing in second half is to see no one mentally check out.
Eldridge is supposed to return next week, but we’ve heard that before.
So they have 140 more yards of offense and 35 more points? That’s brutal
Luton
16/27 129 yds 4.8 avg 1 int
Sweet
60% completion rate and hair is still on point.
Let’s be honest, this isn’t just on Luton. This is an all-around meltdown.
Very much.
OSU twitter page hasn’t posted an update in 2 hours for some reason….last post was “Squaddddd” at pre game?
Maybe it should say “Uncleeeeeee”.
Or “$hit, that guy is strong, fast and mean”. “ What is that squish thing on the back of my head?”
Like the football team on the field, social media team also in a coma
I can’t believe the OC didn’t game plan to punish the super aggressive defense. They just keep trying to run up the gut.
I’m just listening on the radio, but I remember hearing a few screens and Luton completing quick slants over the middle. That has to be half his completions.
It’s tough to gameplan your OL getting completely owned.
I’m definitely noticing the difference without Avery Roberts in the game. Hes an active dude and tackles very well.
Said he was worth 10 pts, may have been low. But even 20 wouldn’t likely make up for other mismatches.
Anyone hear from Beavergopher? There is no way he could be watching Minn kick nebbi’s ass
Everyone likes to watch a winning team.
Not me bruh, feels wrong and i get confused and self conscious.
Luck o’ da beavs. Block punt….still goes 50 yards.
Jinx
Whittley a TFL and…….head to the sideline.
BTW, he was named co-Student Athlete of the Month. Really.
https://osubeavers.com/news/2019/10/9/womens-volleyball-browne-whittley-named-student-athletes-of-the-month.aspx
Good grades!
Neat deal
Blocked punt goes 50 yards.
Luck o’ da …
Guys my 42-35 prediction is still alive.
Good news for Nebraska is that minn missed the extra point on their 5th touchdown
Luton pass 30: 1
Luton pass 31: 1
Full on collapse.
Luton must be sucking John Smith in order to keep this guy in there so long. John showing what a poor coach he is
Or maybe not. Luton beat Gebbia so maybe he isn’t that great. We just saw how bad Choukairs backup is.
Kipper with balls on his face and now this…
Luton pass 32: 2
Here comes rodriguez strip and td
We saw Choker’s backup. Will we see Luton’s?
Also, what are the odds we ever see Choker again?
Idk, seeing Hayes gave me alot better confidence in Smiths player evaluations lol.
I’m not a Gebbia is the savior guy, but get him some game reps.
LOL they just showed a married Utah player, Angry had a point on that …
I knew we’d get our asses kicked, but this is on the verge of, ‘everyone loses their starting job tonight and we’re putting backups in for those that don’t want to play tonight. ‘ try and get your spot back on Monday.’
I didn’t really expect the defense to do any better than this. I did think the offense would be decent.
Well any recruits at the game with a Utah offer are gone.
Unless they want to play right away!
Hey kid you want us to throw you into a meat grinder? Come on down to OSU.
Wood chipper makes more sense but point taken
Guys, it’s a bumpy road to the top. Inspirational quote of the day. Or, have another drink.
Thta stadium is so empty. Can we get an estimate from someone who is still there?
6-7k tops
Ouch
I just left and turned out the lights on the way out.
Luton pass 33: 1
Luton pass 34: 2
Luton has quit.
body language was awful. As with the kicker, Smith thinks he’s being a stand up guy when he sticks with Luton down 35, not realizing that he’s actually punishing the guy
When was our last pac 12 home win?
Oregon I think
Ah…Andersons signature win! how could I forget.
This could be considered JS signature loss
Luton pass 35: 1
SMITH, What the hell is Luton still in there at 42 to 0. If you won”t let Gebbia PLAY LET COLETTO OR WHOEVER IS 3RD OR 4TH STRING GET IN THERE YOU JERK.
Curious. How much has Luton been sacked or knocked around?
Knocked around and hurried a good amount. I don’t remember any sacks.
Oh Jalen, yikes.
Just did a quick peep. Moore, Hicks Onu and Wilson will all be gone next year.
Luton pass 36: 1
it’s nice to see Luton has found another target to lock on to besides Hodgins. Too bad it’s the Utah sideline
Rodriguez averaging 42 yards!
He kicked a 43 yd FG as a HS Jr. He’s the closest thing Beavs have to “ice water in veins”.
Yo put him in!
3 and out Luton. That’s what this game has turned into. When Luton gets the nod to pass, every play is a roll out scramble to the right and he just throws it away. He’s quit. Put in Gebbia for crying out loud!
Fuck luton, shitty body language and doesnt want to be out there. Hes a fucking quitter, nice 3rd down throw away with hardly any pressue.
He is what he is and always has been and always will be.
Only the opponents change.
That’s my Willie Taggart fortune cookie wisdom for the night.
Well, he ain’t going to the NFL now. Maybe Smith will put down the Riley book and you will get your wish.
They pulled Huntley, so you’d think we would finally decide to pull Luton. What’s the point in leaving him in there for the final quarter? Does he need the extra experience?
29th year is the one!
“BuT hEs OuR bEsT cHaNcE tO wIn” -dumb pollyannas-
https://twitter.com/kerryeggers/status/1183210463783346180?s=19
Everyone should mentally prepare for the CW looking exactly like this.
It’ll be worse.
Yep, they won’t take their foot off the gas like Utah has
Has Utah started punting on 3rd down?
It’ll be Herberts nfl showcase game. Then he’ll sit out their bowl game.
we always feared Chip might throw triple digits at us but it could be this year
Well we won’t score less
Exactly? You’re giving ucks too much credit. Not ready to say Beavs will win CW, but, at the same time not ready to say they lose by more than 4 TD’s.
Ducks at home? Their D line should dominate if healthy.
HAHAHAHA … yeah keep telling yourself that.
Will do. Lots of things can happen, either way, between now and Nov 30. See ya then.
With the defense the Ducks have and as the offense just gets better, that CW game won’t even be close. Never mind that it’s in Eugene.
Let’s be clear, duckmouth. I’m calling for no more than a 4 TD loss and you are saying 45 points. Is that correct?
For a coworker who has ties to the program (ducks) the colorado game is the first good game Herbert has played this year. Last monday he was praising luton and wishing the ducks had him instead of Herbert. The laughter was deafening. I’ll ask him if he still wants to trade on monday.
Running clock? Please
Speights has had himself a decent game. He has really looked pretty good this year. I think hes the kind of guy we can build on.
Was kind of hoping the Utes would fake the FG and go for it
So that’s what it looks like to have a real kicker? ? we suck
Its happened Angry!
Short little guy had a pass tippedx2, imagine that. LOL
Gebbia 100% so far
Smith evaluation 10/10
We now see why choukair and luton are #1s on the depth chart
Those tips are concerning.
If you see a ton of tips its usually on the linemen not the QB. They need to knock their guy or try to lock their arms up when they try to shove a paw up. Its pretty typical of overmatched OL to see alot of tipped balls from the pocket.
True.
Luton had tips, too.
6’7″ qbs shouldn’t get many tips haha.
Unless your 8 feet tall. You are correct.
If you can find a replay Gebbia’s ball off the helmet INT was the lineman getting shoved back/up right when he was in his wind up, moved his helmet into the path.
QB needs 4 full games for fair evaluation.
After 4 you know what you got.
So Chocker should be officially the worst field goal kicker in OSU history if I’m not mistaken, correct?
Thats a pretty interesting question. I think at the moment Hayes and everyone else who has never made one would be.
Minimum if 10 kicks. Last week someone posted the stats and he was second worst all time.
Who was worst?
Charlie Brown as I recall. Aaarrrrgh.
Chris Mangold from the late ’70s was the worst before Choukair. Mangold had a big leg, but shakey accuracy. 24/46 52%. He was also on equally shitty teams.
Who was the 1 legged kicker we used to trot out in the 80’s? He was almost this bad, but I think Choukair still edges him out for worst kicker
What? This is a joke right?
Gebbia passes getting tipped too?
Linemen technique.
That stupid chain saw for years has been an embarrassment. Stop doing that damn thing
Dude chainsaw is like cowbell. More!!!! Its tradition adn how I know I am watching a beaver game! Well besides losing and stuff.
False.
wtf is huntly chewing on?
Beaver ass.
Betel nut.
ANyone got the 411 on this Alex Austin dude? I have seen him ALL game but never noticed 18 before. I remember he was a 3 star last year.
Second or third stringer probably.
On the plus side, the players on the field are still fighting (and not literally throwing punches)
I notice alot of the young players and transfers just keep plaiying hard. Atleast on the defense
Games not over yet
wonder if that review delayed turnover warranted a turnover chainsaw photo op?
I remember these types of scores from the Dave kragthorpe days
There’s my boy.
Gebbia, Musgrave, Tyler…………FUTURE.
Gebbia, Musgrave….who would have thought..
Come back on the way, bitches
Gebbia throws a pretty ball.
I’m not convinced this guy isn’t way better.
Small sample but he looks like a natural and leader.
He has urgency in his play. His wind up to throw is twice as fast as lutons.
It’s a little thing, but when Utah had a guy making a late substitution, he had the center quick snap the ball to force the illegal substitution penalty for a free 5 yards.
I’ve seen Luton in that same scenario multiple times and always questioned why we don’t quick snap in that situation and thought maybe it was just poor coaching. But it looks more like just poor situational awareness.
Its having a high football IQ. Gebbia possibly has it.
Noticed that, too.
Little things add up to what good quarterbacking looks like.
He can also run away real purty
Choker can’t even KO through the endzone, seen this act before.
Anderson had alot of shitty games. Last time we got blanked was under him against UCLA in 2015. That was a horribly miserable game.
Wait until Washington, CW, Washington State might be a decent game, but the rest we’ll lose by 21+ if we play like this each game. Gebbia has touch and a tighter spiral. Let him start!
Washington state and arizona are the only possible wins. By possible I mean 10% maybe. Only because their total defense numbers are worse then hawaii (70) and Stanford (73). UCLA is at 120 now and cal poly is 103 in fbs.
We should have a pretty good shot. I’m skeptical that we have a chance against WSU. They will score 45+ atleast against our inexperienced/not good corners.
Gebbia should have been in there from the first of the season. Poor, poor , poor, poor coaching decision Smith going with Luton who is gone after this season. Wasted giving Gebbia valuable experience that would be far more beneficial in the long run.
It’s a lost cause at this point. Even though luton showed his true colors on his last drive by being a fucking quitter some here will gladly let him mushroom stamp their foreheads just because hes experienced. Pathetic. Not that it’s the only problem.
After that drive on the turnover by Gebbia, I really don’t understand why he’s not starting. He can actually run the option! Luton might not even be able to play in the CFL, XFL, or even arena league. So let’s stop wasting this season on Luton and put Gebbia in to get this team to gel for the future.
With this loss I think you are going to see alot more of that. Gonna see alot of young guns getting experience. I would like to see some of the safeties get some reps too considering we are losing all of our starting safties.
How drunk are you? I like your positivity, but that ain’t happening. Nothing will change luton will go out and quit some more, chocker will do whatever hes doing. DBs will not know their assignments, LBs will get caught up in the dlineman getting blown off the ball. As usual.
Not too drunk bit def have a fever. O think my expectations are just incredibly low. The beavers have been good to shit most of my life. I was 10 when we went to the fiesta bowl and spent college watching terrible effort week after week as Riely wandered into retirement. I get excited about what’s growing and the effort shown. The team keeps fighting and they are better than last year and a lightyear ahead of Anderson’s last two years. Young players are playing hard and guys who got blessed in fire last year like shemar are becoming serviceable.
Anyone who thought smith could get us to the middle of the pac in less than 4 years is a true dreamer. He took over a dumpster fire in a landfill fire. I see improvment, half time adjustments, game planning, and effort.
This place does seem to be an echo chamber of misery, I prefer to have humor and optimism to grinding depression and righteous anger.
Misery?
This is one of the funniest websites on the internet.
Curious, what’s the average age difference between OSU/UT? Missions guys responsible for a significant difference there?
I’m not sure but a few of those poly Dlinemen look around 30 years old.
I wonder if that is part of the reason Utah has so few guys in the NFL despite having quality teams for like 15 years
Anyone want to calculate Luton’s score?
Feels like. 2.5 performance.
I’ll try. Gonna take some time.
EDIT: Avg for 35 of the 36 passes was 2.7. Pass #18 not included in calculation; it was rated either 0, -1, or -6.
Noteworthy was the stretch at the end of the game (#29 thru #36 avg was 1.1)
Thanks, OOB.
If rated a 0, which is where it would sit on our scale as-is, that puts him close to 2.5.
my sense, OOB, is that Luton was subconsciously signaling to Smith, at the start of the second half, that he didn’t want to be out there; the corollary being that Gebbia deserved a chance to show what he could do.
Dont calculate his score. Some of the Never-Gebbia types might get butthurt.
I missed most of this fiasco. Did Jefferson even dress for the game? Redshirt possibility?
JJ didn’t dress. Wouldn’t have made a difference given the line play, play calling, and his style of taking time to pick a lane.
The line was disrupted by Ute linebackers all night long, no run no pass. Thought the play calling was vanilla and predictable. There was a double reverse that Luton decided to keep and run for a 5 years loss — completely unacceptable — not sure what happened there.
If I’m thinking of the right play it was a double reverse fake. Utah lineman were in the backfield and Luton has to scramble or be sacked. So many times the offense tried misdirection or screens seemed to backfire
Utah misread 2 screens. One Kipper held and the other one our receiver ran straight into his blockers. All the rest they were read perfectly.
Wow, the talent discrepancy across the PAC12 is huge! We just got demolished by Utah, and we dominated. UCLA. Just think about that for a minute.
So prolly don’t need to watch the DVR. WTF happened?
Let’s just say Utah rowed the boat.
In their war daddy big boi pants.
Defense showed who they are and really suffered from injury losses.
OL got dominated.
Luton began regressing to the mean in a big way.
Choker was Choker (as was his backup).
I had a good time out on my yacht
Not tempted to scuttle the ship captain?
Hi guys! How’d the game go?
It was a great measuring post to show us where we are at against the best. Not competitive yet to say the least haha!
I’ve been to a lot of beat-downs this decade but performance was perhaps the most disgraceful; worse a couple of those Civil Wars or epic washouts vs. UW and WSU.
The most disconcerting aspect was Smith not putting Gebbia in at the start of the second half. Smith was being stubborn; trying to prove a point to his incipient critics, when it was obvious even before the first half was over that Luton had given up. Did Smith think that Luton was going to lead a 35+ point second half comeback, one of the greatest in the history of college football? Really? The game was over, Smith. Time to put in back-ups. Oddly, it was cruel to both Luton AND Gebbia not to put the latter into the game at the start of the second half.
Could have been cruel to let Gebbia get bum beat for 2 quarters by that defense. You want quality reps for qb development not getting trashed. The game was basically over so why let Utahs first string send Gebbia to therapy. He came in once Utah sent in 2nd and 3rd string and got some quality reps.
This game wasn’t fun but we have been beat down like this since 2014. UCLA blanked us in 2015 and Anderson lost by 20+ pt margins on the regular. We were overmatched and we should expect that into next year when Smith recruits and transfers become the majority of the team.
Personally I’m not unhappy with Smith at all. He makes some bad decisions with game management but I’m not sure what you would expect from a dude with less than 2 years as HC. Riley and Erickson made dumbass decisions all the time. We lost games cause we couldn’t get the ball off or whatever.
I think what people often miss with who plays is what’s best for the player. They all want to go out there and play but what’s the point of breaking the spirit of a young guy to give him shitty experience. Not all that many people can learn much good from a complete shlacking. There has been plenty of young guys getting experience on defense and I think you are going to see more of Gebbia against teams that are not brutal defenses. Smith knows our team is lacking talent so why leverage the future on bad odds so they know what it’s like to get pasted by Bernard Francis.
He pulled choker atleast, we all got our wish there O_o.
I bugged out after the first half to go to a party. How did Gebbia look in his reps?
I waited until his first series against Utah backups and turned it off after back to back bat-downs by Utah lineman resulting in a punt. Not sure how the rest went against the backups
First drive was bad, 3 tipped balls. After that we forced a fumble and he put a good drive together for a td. He has good compact mechanics that gets the ball out with urgency. We’ll see of.this holds but he wasn’t staring down receivers too bad. Missed on a deep ball but otherwise accurate. He is a real danger scrambling able to seperate from line men and about even with line backers. He’s got some presence and looks like a leader. The players respond to his demeanor.
We got our ass kicked bit I saw some things that made me feel good about the future.
Young Bright Spots:
1) Speights played well and hard all game in place of Roberts. For a freshman he has sound technique and rarely over pursues, really looking like a future star to build on.
2) Freshman DB Alex Austin was all over the field. Idk how many tackles he had but I saw #18 on the action constantly. He’s not great in coverage yet but for a bench warming frosh I am more interested in effort and the dude had it.
3) Musgrave will catch a shitload of passes in his career. Big, fast and quick off the line. His blocking is serviceable but he also has plenty of filling out to do. You can also tell he just loves hauling in a pass, doesn’t wait for the ball, reaches out and grabs it!
Edit: 4) Halftime heart on defense. The defense played really well after getting yelled at in the locker room. They responded for atleast 2 drives without giving up points and attacking. After that they ran out of steam with the offense only bothering to play for 35 seconds or so.
Appreciate your input, think it’s pretty spot on and a good analysis. This game like against oklahoma state shows how we have several positions that we are shy on. You can play defense well and then give up a 4th down heave for a touchdown and changes the game. You can make several drives into opposing team territory, but a holding call can destroy you. We had no run game against that d-line and pressure into the backfield all night. It takes time to build up a team like Utah has had with wittingham. Just as he said before the game, football is all about mismatches. He knew where to exploit our mismatches on defense and our o-line. We have plenty of guys who can play at this level. Play calling was fine. Defense played okay. But another year or two of recruiting and growth to fill up those spots before we are competitive game in and game out.
Thanks for the laugh this morning.
And thanks for not giving any of your input!
Well fuck me for looking for positives. I can see why people here tend to be caustic assholes, y’all chase away anyone who has anything positive to say. I think I’ll just quit OSU forums for another 5 years. I could have more fun watching the Utah game on slo-mo
There is nothing positive about a 52-7 home ass whipping. On homecoming. Where your 6th year QB who’s described as a “leader” basically quit on his teammates in the 4th quarter.
Not one fucking thing.
4) Utah let up because they were ahead by 7 TD’s? Nah. Couldn’t be that. What you call “heart” I call Whittingham calling off the dogs. Dude. They were up 49-0. 49. To ZERO.
Smith and his merry band of misfits got out coached. By a lot.
Make sure to vote. I tagged Gebbia and Smith.

I expect that we will play much better vs cal, now that our euphoric high from the UCLA win is gone. Hopefully Avery Roberts and some others will be back from injuries
Roberts out of the game was very noticable.
No matter where you stand on the whole Luton or Gebbia thing I thought it was a mistake not to start Gebbia for the 2nd half. It was 42-0, the game was over, give Gebbia at least 1 drive with the other starters, that kind of experience is so valuable.
Im 50/50 on that. I don’t know Gebbia or how he responds to negative experience. It wouldn’t just be the OSU starters on the field.
Bottom line, and I called it, this was a poor offensive game plan. Smith needed to get the ball out of Luton’s hands quickly with two step drop and slants, bubble screens, and throw back screens. He also needed to use misdirection to use Utah’s aggressive play against them with trap plays, sprint draws, and have used fly sweeps to try and freeze Utah LBs. Instead, he tried to play them straight up man for man and you could see the disaster unfold during the first possession. I expected that defensive performance but would have hoped JS and Lindgren would have easily recognized the neef for deception and misdirection in game preparation. I’m not suggesting beavs would have won but they might have been able to keep Utah a little more off balance. BTW, I think Utah is a more complete offensive and defensive team than the schmux. I’m still not quite sure how USC beat Utah.
Utah’s offense is definitely more put together than hole’s but defensively it’ll play out the same. Expect Cal’s defense to stuff their sweaty balls on Kipper’s neck all day also. Although Cal’s offense is a shit show with that backup QB.
Love Benny Beaver throw back logo. Team did a tremendous job of honoring the long tradition we have of getting embarrassed while wearing that logo.
I’d rather be dead than watch this shit.
Well said, as usual….
Beaverpride’s post is a good example why, as stated above, this is one of the funniest sites on the internet
or the new “Jack” — another case in point
No clue who this guy is, but uh oh. Smith better start playing him.

I could understand if Smith continued to start Luton, and stayed with him a few possessions when he wasn’t doing well; but when it’s clear Luton has “checked out” or the game is beyond reach I simply don’t understand why Gebbia doesn’t get a chance to change the pace, etc. It’s almost as if Smith is afraid to learn that Gebbia’s success would make him look bad for not starting him in the first place.
I keep thinking of Pat Casey’s maxim: the players make out the lineup. WWPD in this situation?
Troll.
I just saw he’s a Nebby fan probably still butthurt.
#TPB Those Poor Butts
Lame
Worst home loss since 1991. It’s nice to have that one off my back. Your’e welcome.
I was wondering about that. Thanks for the info. Even GA’s teams never stunk up the joint like that.
Please, GA’s teams crapped their big boy pants on a regular basis. Non-competitive football was the norm at the end there. This was just one horrible loss, not Anderpants-level consistent ineptitude.
I agree. Didn’t see the whole team giving up. They were badly outmatched but Anderson’s teams have up on games they could have won on the regular
This is Luton’s last season. There is no way Smith is going to bench him, it’s not his style. Smith is more concerned about establishing the trust of his players right now than he is about actually winning games. If he benched Luton now he would likely damage the team morale especially if they didn’t immediately start winning games. With the defense and offensive line we have right now, he doesn’t want to gamble on Gebbia.
Comparing QB performance against UCLA and Utah, is there a better argument for it not being the QB so much, but the competition?
What happened? To the site.
Hey buddy. Check the top post.
Two Nebraska fans in front of me halfway through the 4th quarter, “maybe we can get Riley back.”
