Pretty incredible feet for them to get here, so I think it warrants a dedicated thread.
I won’t be able to watch the entire game, but I’ll be checking in as much as possible. Already prepped for heartbreak and don’t expect much tonight…lol.
Go Beavs!
Their feet must be incredible to achieve this feat.
Oops.
Undefeeted in the Pac12 tournament so far. Let’s hope it stays that way tonight.
Angry, to answer your previous question: it’s about as realistic to expect a win as it was against UCLA and Nike. Odds are probably better than against Oregon.
Statistically, Colorado is the better team. They’re a good shooting team and good defenders. We played them tough in a close loss at home, but got blown out in Boulder (IIRC there were some fatigue circumstances with that away game.)
Thanks.
Looking again at automatic qualifiers, there’s a good chance we avoid the play-in round altogether if we win tonight.
I was wondering that…thought the pac-12 tourney champ was always an auto-qualifier?
Yes, but the 4 lowest ranked auto-qualifiers play play-in games.
If the Beavs win tonight they won’t be in one of the play in games.
Most likely seeded in the 10-11 range.
MBB/WBB: How about the Beav Gals? Not to detract from the Guys, but here is some good stuff from Rueck. He mentions Massey rating as was brought up here not long ago.
His answer to the question of where the Beavs belong in the Dance could apply to Tinkle’s guys as well:“… you can judge us for the way we’ve performed and the team that we are. And what do your eyes see?
“How many teams are going to go into Pauley and probably win?” … “How many teams are going to go to Oregon and win? How many teams are going to go beat Oregon again in a neutral site game …” “…we deserve to be where the teams that are capable of doing that are,”
So, where do the guys belong to be seeded? And the Gals?
https://www.gazettetimes.com/sports/beavers-sports/basketball/osu-women-what-seed-should-beavers-get-in-ncaa-tourney/article_a9f6b385-14eb-5a1a-92fb-49f87fbdd19f.html
I get his argument and they are playing great lately but winning in those places without fans present is not the same.
Some would also say that no fans in Gill has been a disadvantage, especially for the gals.
If you’re the pac12, you want OSU to make it in. Increases the payout from the NCAA. It doesn’t look like any other team will be knocked out if the Beavs win.
Same argument duck fans always use and I never agree. Economically you are correct though.
Go Beavs! Finish this and get that auto berth!
Blast the Buffs!
Here’s the link for live stats:

Is this a bad time to say let’s bring in Rick Pitino next year?!
He’s suddenly very interested in the LSU job.
ET getting a few tough looks to go early. That’s a good sign! Defense keeping the pressure on, too.
This is the ET I’ve been waiting to see for two years. Good for him.
Beavs playing fantastic defense right now.
They need to box out on the glass though. Could be up double-digits if they stop giving Colorado second-chance points.
Offense is starting to get out of whack, too. Not enough ball movement, a little too much forcing things by guys who shouldn’t be (like Calloo).
Good half. Colorado clearly knocked off their game by a great OSU defensive effort.
McKinley Wright looks like he’s suffering from the head shot last night.
Beavs up 33-28, good half. Feels like they could have been up even more.
Daschel tweets:
“You know what that means? Beavers are 6-0 against conference opponents this season when they lead at halftime.”
He read my comments here on a prior thread and got that stat…
Credit where it’s due: Calloo keeps forcing things, but he’s 4-6 with 10 pts at the half, so it’s kind of working.
Outside of the Beavs making a lot of threes, this game is fairly even. Beavs need to get to the line in the second half. That kind of 3 pt shooting won’t last all game.
No Colorado player is in foul trouble. That needs to change.
Same thing with Colorado’s lack of 3-pt shooting. Beavs need to play better in the paint, period.
It looks like Colorado’s game plan is not to let Lucas beat them, so he has to keep cool and not force things. Other players are going to need to continue to step up. I think Thompson will need to hit on some of those twisting drives also.
Tinkle has been making the necessary halftime adjustments the past month. Let’s hope he keeps it up. Lucas and ET need to get going. Can’t complain about being ahead with Hunt and Calloo being the leading scorers.
Wow, did the refs get some message that the Buffs need to win? Highly questionable calls. Colorado ahead 37-36. Thompson on the bench with three fouls.
Refs looking to take over the game here with three straight bad calls against the Beavs.
This is the first I’ve watched Beav’s basketball all year. They make the basics look basic. Very unusual for a Beav basketball team.
Beavs need to stop fouling so they don’t give the best FT shooting team ever more trips to the line early in the half.
Wow, Beavs on a mini-run with Ethan on the bench, up 49-41 with about 11 minutes left. Tinkle needs to keep Andela in the game. Not sure why the sporadic playing time tonight?
Lead back to 8 with just under 11 minutes left.
The “feed Calloo” strategy needs to stop.
It’s time for Calloo to go to the bench and I think Silver has potential for the future, but why is he playing now?
Every time someone says something negative about Calloo, he hits a shot.
I know it’s crazy, but I just watched him get lost on defense again. I think the three that Colorado hit was his responsibility. He’s also a marginal defensive rebounder.
Watching this team tonight, it feels like a complete 180 from past seasons. Every guy that comes into the game, no matter how little they’ve played, wants the ball and wants to score. It’s not just a few headliners and the supporting cast.
Well, I guess I have egg on my face Calloo just hit another three. Would like to see Andela in soon for his rebounding and defense.
Egg’s better than other things you can have on your face.
Calloo sucks. Silver sucks. Hunt sucks. They all suck.
Hope that helps
Didn’t work. Calloo missed a wide-open “dagger three”. Beavs up seven with less than four. Need to score on this possession to put the pressure on.
https://i0.wp.com/www.seattlesportshell.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/major-league-theyre-still-shitty-1.jpg?fit=651%2C350&ssl=1
Curse the person that cured Walton’s stuttering!
STFU already
Run some fucking offense! And get Andela into the game.
Hopefully they actually draw something up here. Kill the clock then hit a shot.
Agreed. Need one bucket and one stop. Then make free throws. They are this close to finishing this
Get it to Lucas on this inbounds play. Make two free throws and put this baby to bed!
What he said^
It’s never easy being a Beaver fan.
Well timed makeup call on Lucas there. Clutch defensive play by Hunt.
That was pretty sweet. Good game to start watching. Go Beavs!
Sweet “feet?” : )
Nice job by the program!
Woohoo!!!! They fuckin did it. Unbelievable!!!
Great team effort. So many guys contributed and so many guys played their best games of the year in this tournament.
Who needs early season baseball? Give Tinkle 5 more years!!!!!!!! (That’s a joke). Good job beavs.
The sad thing is they probably will.
I know. I think I just jinxed us.
Wow. What a tournament…
MBB are P-12 Champions!!!!!!!!
I’m sayin it…..
The Beavers are goin to the NCAA tournament!
Great job guys. I’ll take back everything I said about you all sucking.
And Wayne Tinkle deserved to be PAC-12 COY.
Bizarro world when I think about it. Possibly the best fucking foul shooting team in the HISTORY of college basketball just went 12-20, 60% from the line. Luck O’ the Beavs in a positive sense for once!
Space Jam aliens is the only explanation.
Oregon State ?…………..Damned Straight!!
Compared to what this team looked like at the beginning of the year and how they looked these last 3 games I think credit has to go to Tinkle
they just beat UCLA, oregon and Colorado. Nobody could have thought that early on. This team has come along way.
Dude. My first game watching was that blowout loss at Gill to Arizona.
And I wrote a scathing post here about this team and coaching staff. I’ve been extremely critical of Tinkle. He’s earned a pass with me for now.
This is a nice gift I wasn’t expecting. But for me personally I need to see more consistency from this coaching staff and program.
Now, go get a W in the big dance!
Beavs let it ride in Vegas. Likely in the first 4 games of the tourney.
Tinkle will get an extension this off-season. Likely adding 3 years to his current deal. But he does need to improve the consistency of the team. The team is always having to come from behind in the standings or blows enough games to miss consideration. Would be nice to be comfortably into the tourney.
No, they won’t be a first four team. They’re an automatic qualifier and only the 4 lowest seeded AQ’s are in play-ins.
Didn’t know that. Then 12 is the lowest seed they could get I think.
With their confidence built up, they could be good for at at least one win in the tourney?
Yeah, the Beavs have beaten all the other pac12 tourney teams at least once. So they have the ability to make a run but the tourney is all about matchups.
We like Wayne Tinkle.
Cinderella Saturday, Georgetown with an even better run to win their conference tourney.
Beavs undefeated in the tourney two years in a row. Dynasty??
What the flying fuck!! Go beavvvvssssssssssss
Welcome back, Nuc!
Just a break. Soooooo drunk!!!!! Beavvvvsssss!!!!!
Missed ya buddy!! Glad to see you back
Hell ya!! Go Beavs!!!
If the glass slipper fits…
This certainly makes up for baseball getting blown out by the ducks.
Who’s putting money on the Beavs to win the whole thing? Should be a nice payout :)
I saw a picture of a guy with a betting slip after the 34 point loss to ARZ where he bet on OSU to win PAC 12 Tournament.. they were at 200-1.. Looks like he just won 20 grand
He bet $100 on OSU
Alitishe named most outstanding player. Ethan and Jarod Lucas make the all tournament team.
That ball fake and the easy layup was so slick. Hopefully we get to have Alitishe for two more years. His game doesn’t translate to the NBA so it would be nice for him to stay.
Liked his response after. Not over reacting, getting back down the floor and focused.
I suspect GP would appreciate that move.
ESPN projecting Beavs as a 12 seed vs Creighton
Lunardi’s latest projection has the Beavs as a 12 seed and facing Creighton in the first round
https://www.espn.com/espn/feature/story/_/page/bracketology/the-varying-states-ncaa-tournament-bracketology
This should help basketball recruiting. Go Beavs!
Should also help another team poach Wayne Tinkle. Just when we all started liking the guy. Luck o the beavs
Wouldn’t it be something if Lunardi’s bracket I linked came to fruition? And the 12 and 13 seeds pulled off upsets?
We’d get a 2nd round matchup with former beaver coach Ritchie McKay and his Liberty Flames
For those who suddenly have new interest in the NCAA tournament this year, join the Beavrecruiting bracket challenge. You can fill out 2 separate brackets, so I expect to see several with OSU winning it all.

Great win and it’s been fun watching them develop over the season. Wasn’t there four turds games they lost in the pre-conference where they blew a big lead? And why is Gary Payton wearing a UCLA blue track suit?
I thought it was interesting that they built the lead back up in the second half with Thompson on the bench. It was basically players that will be back next year (I’m assuming Thompson leaves). They have not fallen apart when he goes off the court. They also finished off UCLA after he fouled out. Maybe they have a core that can keep improving for next year?
Agree McK — and if this performance helps recruiting so much the better.
I just realized something. No one wears mouthguards anymore. What happened?
Jaquori McLoughlin is in the dance also. 22 points in UCSB’s victory tonight.
Wish tinkle would have stop favoring the coaches kids before McLaughlin left. McLaughlin could have been the point guard we need
McLaughlin didn’t leave because of Tinkle. He left because he was traumatized by a terrorist attack he witnessed in Europe when the Beavs were on a preseason trip there. Had PSTD and the NCAA granted him a waiver when he transferred
That’s not true. He hated the coaches son dynamics. Period. End of story. Of course he’s not going to say so publicly but this is what he said and continues to say privately.
It is true
Sorry but it’s not. I have personal relationship with him. If you don’t know, don’t pretend to
Jerry Palm of cbs sports also has the Beavs as a 12 seed and facing Villanova
https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/bracketology/
It would only be appropriate, given what #12 has meant to this team. Saw Nike printed 12 on the inside collar of their post season jersies to remind them of the media picking them to finish last in the Pac
The only things left to witness on my sports related bucket list (after the Dodgers finally won a World Series last fall) are a tournament win (a deep run would be sweet) and the Beavs playing in the Rose Bowl game. I can be satisfied with the sports world and die in peace if I could witness those last two events.
I agree that being a 12 seed would only be fitting.
I didn’t think these guys had it in them to pull it off. But they did. Gotta give credit where it’s due and happy to be wrong.
Who had “Beavs make the tournament but Duke and Kentucky don’t” on their 2021 bingo card?
An incredible achievement for the entire program. Really happy for everyone gutting it out. Should put some butts in the seats next year. I still think an extension would be a bad idea at this point. Even if Tinkle left for another job – I don’t think you’d have to break the bank to get a good replacement (might be harsh right now – but maybe some coaches who might not have thought they could win in Corvallis would give it another look).
Great job by the Beavs. It is interesting that he makes the tourney with GP2 but unable to get back until the sons are nearly gone.
No extension yet, but he may be a better coach after all of the sons are gone: team chemistry, coaching consistency, trust among the players etc are all real factors that make playing alongside a coach’s son difficult. Hopefully this is a foreshadow of the program turning the corner and becoming considerably more competitive going forward.
He’s getting an extension. He has two years left on his deal. Expires in the 22/23 season. I would expect at least two years added on through the 24/25 season. Gives him 4 seasons to make the tourney again.
The plus side is, they may be able to justify not giving a huge dollar increase due to the pandemic.
Any chance the Beavs get snubbed?
They won an automatic bid. Someone else will get snubbed because of the Beavs. Beavs are the snubbers for once.
Did that snow hit yet?
That’s what I thought…Pac is an auto bid, right? Someone above said we might get a play in game.
I was wrong there. Auto bids don’t play in the play in games. But the lowest seed they could get is a 12 seed.
We’ll see if any teams affected by covid affects the seeding.
https://player.timecam.tv/express/index.html?C=704BAJEKD613
This is Breckenridge, monitoring because we are going for spring break next week.
I’m having a hard time coming up with who would hire Tinkle away from us.
The big question is can he coach a team that’s able to sustain a championship mindset for the whole season? We’ve had good back halves and good front halves of a season, but they need to put it all together.
Expectations will be higher next year.
Haha. Now we’re worried about Tinkle getting stolen. Pretty amazing change from a few weeks ago.
Yeah, I just don’t see who has lots of money and would want a mid-tier P12 coach. Maybe someone like DePaul, but why would Tinkle want to go there?
Winning makes everything better.
For those who are into slogans:
Make Winning a Habitat
…yeah, and a habit as well….
Said the hyper competitive nun…
I’ve noticed Big Tinks has not been opposed to making excuses for their failures in the past seasons, I would expect no excuses next year if the roster he has stays together. They’ve shown they can play without ET in key stretches, can they do it for a season? Who will step up and develop? Let’s not forget this guy had THREE top one hundred players in his starting line-up and couldn’t even get to the NIT. As someone else said, it’s time for consistency.
This success is too weird, can we rip on Canham or something for Beavs baseball not being competitive against Quacks?
Some people are in denial of this success. Wanted tinkle gone all year but can’t get themselves to accept he’s getting an extension.
He didn’t do just good enough to get an extension like the last time. He accomplished the goal of making the tourney and earned an extension.
No one is in denial. We’re all excited. But it’s difficult to balance a good 8-10 game stretch against 5 years of mediocrity.
If Tinkle can extrapolate this team’s tourney identity as tough defenders into a program identity, I think the Tinkle bandwagon will grow significantly.
Hopefully, you noticed I was being sarcastic. As a many decades follower of Beaver hoops, I am thrilled at the championship, but I don’t want another 4-5 years of mediocrity after this. I think that’s a reasonable expectation.
Re: next year, losing ET’s production is not a small thing. Hunt is the current heir apparent to his starting spot, but he doesn’t have the same kind of game inside the key as ET.
The two new guards coming in:
Key-Malone looks like he has a similar offensive skillset to ET, though he’s a below average FT shooter. He scored 12 per game at FDU; if Tinkle can teach him how to shoot FT’s, he could improve that to 14-15. He’s described as “insanely athletic” and he’s a 35% 3-pt shooter. At the very least, he should give us a deeper guard rotation.
Davis seems to be under the impression he’s going to come in and be the man. He’s putting up some insane numbers at the JC level, 5 double-digit assist games, 9 games with 25+ points, and an average of 3 steals per game. So that’s why he was the top-rated JC guard. He’s a good, but not great 3-point shooter like Key-Malone, so those points are mostly coming closer the basket. Sounds like he could be a good drive and dish combo guard to pair with Lucas.
Also, the offer lists look pretty good for both. We beat out Florida, Georgia and a few others for Key-Malone and Seton Hall for Davis.
Will Key-Malone have one year or two?
Just one year as he’s a grad transfer and elected to sit out this season.
So it’s next year with him. Sounds like ET’s replacement. 6’4″ shooting guard who has an inside game and not just three’s.
Wonder if ET gets motivated to come back after this tournament run? He seems to be having fun.
Not sure he’s draftable so it might be his best option.
The media keeps saying Sliva is back for sure. Reichle is up in the air. ET is gone. I guess ET could stay one more year, he’s only been here four. Time to go for his Ph.D.? I’ve been one to criticize the play at times, but these guys are stellar students and outstanding representatives of the university. That counts for a ton!
I believe Silva already said at some point he’s coming back
Seems like Altishe could be unstoppable if they consistently run plays for him. He can always just jump over people to get a look at the basket. If he becomes a focal point of the offense, he needs to improve his foul shooting and an outside shoot. Calloo has a lot of potential, needs to get tougher on the boards and defense, but he can shoot a three at any time because of his height. I love Andela and his toughness, I’m not sure why he played so little last night? Tinkle went with the outside shooting of Calloo and it worked, but if the Beavs had lost, one could point to the offensive boards advantage Colorado had
Alatishe needs to improve his mid-range game. If he does, he’ll be first-team all-PAC. I didn’t realize he hadn’t been playing basketball for very long; that gives some hope for a Jake Lutonesque late career improvement.
The only explanation I could think of for the rotations was fatigue after the previous two games.
Looking at next year’s potential roster, it looks like either Silver or Franklin would replace Reichle. That’s a bit dicey because neither has much game experience.
Not a fan of Calloo–if his first shot goes in, good luck trying to get the ball back from him again. Very appreciative of his efforts though last night. rotation last night was strange, but they know more than I do.
Beavs football finally make a top ___ cut for a recruit. This one is pretty good too. 4* in state WR Darrius Clemons.
https://twitter.com/DarriusClemons/status/1371159861518422017?s=19
For the baseball game please use the prior thread.
Both Lunardi and Katz have us playing Villanova in a first round 5/12 matchup. It seems like the brackets will be more predictable this year because they’re more based on rankings than geography.
Villanova would be a decent matchup for us because they play a slower tempo like we do and they rely heavily on 3’s (which we defend better than anyone in the P12).
They also lost their starting point guard and seem in a downward spiral since then. Always a tough out though and experienced coach.
Actually Lunardi has us playing Texas Tech now. That wouldn’t be quite as good a matchup because they’re really good defensively and they rely more on their inside game, but they also play lower scoring games. We would need to win with 3’s.
Listened to tinkles post game press conference on pac 12 app. I really like him as a person. Talked about how his faith has grown this year and that they have always preached life lessons to their kids and even more so this year with all of the challenges. I wish he’d win more but at least he isn’t an embarrassment. Maybe this is turning the corner. Underclassmen have bought in and will carry forward these ethics. You know barnes is going to extend him. He has handed out extensions for much less.
Unpopular opinion (barring total disasters like Andersen) I think we fans get a little impatient. And sometimes schools see something we don’t.
The resume isn’t stellar but since Ralph Miller this program has been truly a disaster. Tinkle has now gotten the team to 2 NCAA tournaments and has won a conference tournament championship since he got here. Given the prior history that’s pretty good.
Sometimes patience is the way and rather Tinkle is the guy or not it’s hard to dispute a period better in 3 decades.
It’s hard to build a program in college basketball today. It takes time.
I of course reserve the right to call for his head next week!
Congrats to the Beavs, and especially coach Tinkle. The confidence gained from winning against quality opponents when everything is on the line is what the program needed to start to turn the corner.
The next step is a win in the tournament. Haven’t had one since ’82.
Big if, but if they keep playing like the team they were in the tourney, they have a shot.
Make it an ugly game and make just enough shots. Many guys stepped up and made shots. Get a little from Andela, Silva, Calloo, etc. Can’t count on Thompson but maybe he will play loose and have himself a game.
Some USA today reporters have The Beavs as the 13th seed against Florida St.
https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaab/2021/03/14/march-madness-bracketology-final-ncaa-tournament-field/4686838001/
This storm is pissing me off. I think we might lose our front yard tree – 3 major branches cracked off.
Join the club, we’ve lost three whole trees with the Willamette Valley ice storm.
As mentioned above, for the baseball game please use the prior thread.
Rueck picks up another 5* recruit.
Forward, Timea Gardner.
https://twitter.com/timea_gardiner/status/1371225065753251842?s=19
MASSIVE pick up for the program. Looks to be the highest rated recruit in program history. She’s a game changer.
2022?
Yes 2022
Very nice, especially with that FR already showing she’s going to be a big impact. Rueck might be back to the Elite 8 sooner than expected.
Tennessee is a tough matchup.
tenn starting forward might not be able to play because of injury
https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/31057167/tennessee-volunteers-john-fulkerson-sec-tournament-facial-injuries
Sounds like he went to Tennessee for some type of medical procedure and then will bus with the team to Indianapolis, but no indication on whether he’ll play in the tournament.
Another view of the elbow(s) he took from the Florida player. How to you elbow a guy twice, with both elbows??
https://twitter.com/cjogara/status/1370475111321571331?s=09
I live in Tennessee and I hate this matchup. I was hoping for Villanova because of the injury to there PG
How do you like Tennessee as a place to live?
Sick of the snow?
No, afraid of Californians ruining CO eventually…
Where do you live in Tennessee, Ackrite? We spent a few years in Chattanooga and Knoxville — were big Vol fans at the time.
Old AD Mitch B is the selection committee chair. Must be happy to see the Beav’s in.
Tennessee is probably the toughest of the 5 seed matchups we could have drawn.
BUT, if we win we get a classic OSU grudge match against either Ritchie McKay or those orange and black imposters from Oklahoma.
How do I contact Nicebeaver privately? Recruiting related…
You might as well tell us, we’re going to find out sooner or later.
Lol! Sorry, top secret insider info!
So what’s the good word, w-v Beav?
If you have twitter, you can direct message me at @beavrecruiting
Or beavrecruiting@gmail.com is the email.
Would be nice to have some positive recruiting news. Been so quiet lately
Seeing the user name W-view has me intrigued…
Interesting timing.
Do we know a start time for the tourney game yet?
I read theyre waiting for all of the teams to arrive and pass Covid tests before they set times
Man, this Tennessee draw is really rough. They have two first-round draft picks at the guard positions and they’re one of the best teams in the country at forcing turnovers. Kind of hard to believe they have the same seed as Colorado.
The committee doesn’t believe in them. Should fire them up.
Us or them?
Us.
Not going to link it but per Daschel at the Oregonian, Tinkle has a NCAA tournament clause that extends his contract by a year if he makes it. Contract will now be for 3 more years. They will negotiate terms and if they can’t reach an agreement, terms mirror the last year of the contract. Seems like a win/win as OSU won’t overreact and extend him and Tinkle will likely stay. If he can’t dance in 3 more years, no problem letting him go.
Beavs play at 4:30 Friday on TNT.
That’s 4:30 PM eastern time
Est, 1:30pm pst, you caught my hopes up have Friday afternoon appointment I can’t rescheduled, and needed a later tip
Alright, here are the reasons for optimism I dredged up while doing my bracket research:
-The biggest is probably the likely absence of Forward John Fulkerson. Of their postseason chances, before the SEC tourney Rocky Top Talk said “One thing is clear — this team needs John Fulkerson operating at a high level.” After that double elbow he sustained, Rick Barnes said he would be surprised if Fulkerson plays. Could just be coach talk, but it’s very possible UT will be missing a key piece. They also had two other guys in the regular rotation who have been battling injuries for the last month.
-Despite having future NBA draft picks at the guard positions, UT actually has a pretty mediocre 3pt% (lower than the Beavs). One article I read said the team has an unhealthy love affair with the 3. This could play into the Beavs strength defending 3-pt shooting teams.
-UT is a relatively small team and not a great rebounding bunch. They can nullify this somewhat by shooting a lot of 3’s, but Alatishe needs to be his usual self on the offensive boards. The only team we didn’t beat in the conference was Arizona, who’s easily the best rebounding team in the conference. We’ve beaten teams with similar strengths to UT’s, we just haven’t played guards as talented as theirs.
So a Beaver win is going to involve winning the battle on the boards and defending inside the arc well so UT settles for 3’s. Simplistically, they’re an even better version of the type of team we beat twice in the tournament. I’m still picking UT to win, but the narrative around them is that they’re talented, but inconsistent, so they could be ripe for an upset.
Appreciate the analysis. Here’s where we see if WT can really coach. Easy to game plan against teams you see twice a year with the same staffs for multiple years. Unknown team in a foreign environment, totally different animal. At least he has some CU tape on them to reference.
Any idea of what, if any, contacts Tinkle has with coaches who have faced Tenn this year? Not uncommon for good contacts to yield actionable nuggets.
I skimmed through youtube full game highlights of the OSU/CU and TENN/BAMA games from this weekend.
It’s pretty glaring how much more athletic those SEC athletes are. And they can get up and down the floor pretty quickly.
Was hard to get a feel for Tennessee’s shooting and offensive flow because this was pretty much all offensive highlights, but they look like they’ll be a handful. Hopefully we aren’t hesitant on offense and we can take care of the ball on the big stage because Tennessee looks like a team poised to take advantage of turnovers. Silva could be a weapon down low if he can get good entry passes. He’ll be the biggest guy out there by a good 3-4 inches in most cases.
Entry passes are key I feel like they give up on getting the ball inside far too often.
Yeah, ball security is a concern. Our turnover numbers this year were good, but partially because P12 teams in general don’t force a lot of turnovers. The ones that do (ASU and Oregon) were successful in getting us to turn it over at a high rate. We still won 3 of our 5 games against those teams, though, so it’s not like we can’t win those kinds of games.
The Beatles early albums like Help and Hard Day’s Night make great early morning coffee music.
Meh…Replacements, The The, or to go for a really easy slide in to the day, Reggae in the am.
New thread up.
It’s all about the matchups in the tourney. Tenn runs a four guard lineup and now they are likely to be without their starting forward. So they may go with a 5 guard lineup. Very limited experience with the remaining frontcourt players.
Advantages for the beavs will be size inside. Silva, Alitshe and Andela could have career days. But Andela and silva could be liabilities on defense if they have to chase guards around. Alabama’s big man had a great day in the sec title game.
So the game will come down to who can force the other team to play their game. Beavs need to pound the paint and crash the boards on offense. On defense, might have to go to a matchup zone and make Tenn shoot over the zone. They aren’t a great deep ball team but Tenn could run them out of the gym if they push the tempo in transition.
Likely the Beavs won’t be able to keep up their 3 point shooting so getting looks around the bucket will be key.
The odd stat would be that Tenn is on the plus side of rebounding for the year even though they play 4 guards.
Beavs win if they can use the size advantage to get Tenn into foul trouble early. Not much depth behind the first 6 guys, assuming their forward doesn’t play.
I don’t see a close game, it’s either Tennessee runs away from the Beavs or the Beavs overpower Tennessee.
