  1. I’ll never forget when Joe Avezzano lost to Idaho in 84, pretty much sealed his fate. But it did pave the way for the great Craig Kragthorpe “wide open attack” era. We all called it the “your fly’s open attack.”

  2. Idaho HC says our offense is even better than Indiana’s. Then again, this is the same guy that said “they have a really good kick returner,” so take it for what it’s worth.

  3. BREAKING — Andrew Chatfield, Florida Gators edge-rusher and former bluechip prospect, spotted on Oregon State Beavers visit. He entered transfer portal in August. NB said some stuff about this guy not too long ago.

  4. NB – numb nuts Nemec reporting Chatterfield, the edge from Florida is visiting this weekend. Any insights? Does he have 2 years of eligibility? Would he play next year?

    • I dont know for sure if he’s a grad transfer. If he is, he could potentially enroll for fall term and be playing for us this season, which is part of what makes OSU’s school calendar attractive.
      Something worth following up on.

Btw, he is not the current Andrew Chatfield in the student directory. We happen to have a student with the same name already.

  5. We Beaver fans have the worst luck trying to watch our sports. Half of you guys don’t get it where you are and my bar’s cable went out. Pretty frustrating.

    • Sucks man. Fenwick just busted a nice run. Broke a tackle with a spin move. Followed up with a great out route and throw for Bradford, timing perfect, right in the hands. Followed up with Fenwick just bashing through for 8 yards. Oline is nasty

  6. Deshawn Fenwick needs to change his twitter handle to @Deez_Nutz.

I’d love to see the OSU twitter account have to type out:
    “That’s another touchdown for @Deez_Nutz”

Too bad beavs didn’t start Chance Nolan against Purdue. I’m pretty sure the beavs would be undefeated at this point had he started that game.

  8. USC QB2 currently limping around against WSU (Trojans looking pretty limp themselves).

Of course, they have like five blue chip QB’s on the depth chart, but still.

  9. That was a nice, efficient first half.

There’s no need to run up the score on Idaho. I do want to see the defense make adjustments and shut out Idaho.

  10. Classy to get Noyer in garbage time in front of family. Don’t mind this. Should get Vidlak some reps, too, so he doesn’t transfer. Might be a while before he plays given Nolan’s breakout.

forgot they played early today. On vacation in Hawaii and tuned in to follow the game just as noyer gets picked. Vidlak should be getting that shot, Noyer already had his chance. Especially against these scrubs.

We look like a real D1 team for the first time since 2006. I know the last two opponents helped, but even still, taking that out we have more dynamic, fast, physical players and better fundamentals. We beat Purdue if Nolan starts, too, so there’s that. Special year brewing.

  13. Regarding Chatfield visiting. Makes me wonder if the timing of Ta’ron Madison transferring out isn’t related? Thought we were maxed out on scholarships up until Madison left.

Great performance. Defense was stout, offense moved the ball and was efficient in the red zone, and the game was in control.

Only negatives were that Noyer didn’t look like a D1 QB (at all) and defense didn’t really contain the Vandals’ QB.

Well it doesn’t help when you’re getting blindsided and the backups block poorly. There were reports in camp when the starting Oline wasn’t in they really struggled in protection and with penalties. Those reports look to be true. Moran and Miller definitely aren’t D1 size yet.

  15. Good dominant performance today. Nice to see the Beavs live up to expectations for a change. Offense looked really good. Defense was helped by some mistakes, no Field Goal tries, and a lot of 4th down attempts by Idaho, but they stopped them when they really needed to.

  16. How ’bout this:
Kyrei Fisher led Oregon State with seven tackles,
and this: B.J. Baylor rushed for 68 yards and two touchdowns, making him the first Beaver with three-consecutive multi-touchdown games since Storm Woods in 2012.

  17. SMU just beat LaTech on the road on a last second Hail Mary play that bounced off the defender and landed in their guys hands. Entertaining game

  18. Went to the game. First one in over a decade. Not a lot of fans, but to be expected with the weather, although it was better than expected.

Idaho clearly was over matched, but it was very nice to see a shutout.
Nolan only had one bad pass that I recall.
Defense had issues with the RPO stuff they were seeing, but talent won out.

Would have like to have seen a few BIG TD plays, but over all can’t complain!

Nice to see Stony Brook drive 80 yards for a TD against The Quacks. They are in Quack territory again but down 17-7. I think Oregon and Ohio St are both overrated, but tell that to the orgasmic Portland media.

  20. Good win. Checked all the boxes. Used mismatches to great advantage. Shutout was big. If Idaho scored, I’d say it was a net loss.

Now USC awaits. They weren’t as wounded as believed.

Trivia question – when was the last time the beavs beat USC in Los Angeles?

  21. 1
    1

Just flipped to the Stanford game. Why do they let Stanford get away with obvious offensive PI? The guy literally holds the defender away from him with an extended arm in the guys chest. They’ve made a living out of it because for some reason they choose not to call them for it.

  22. 2
    1

Damn, maybe Colorado should have been kinder to Noyer? They had 68 yards of total offense for the entire game. Of course, Luck O’ The Beavs that the Buffs aren’t on the schedule this season.

  23. I’m going to guess when the odds come out, USC will be favored by 10-14 points due to USC road win and the historic losing streak of the beavs in la. I would bet on the beavs though.

  24. W/3 variable opponents, Beavs averaging 36 points scored to 19 points allowed. Doesn’t tell the whole story, but indicates progress. Was nice to see them do today what they should have.

Good game by Beavs and staff today. I am more confident in Nolan than I thought possible, and he has convinced me that he can be an all conference qb and lead Beavs offense to highly efficient productivity which will translate to a very balanced attack that few other teams have in the conference…

I think all road games are actually more winnable now than in any recent years. CIvil War will be a showdown for the North title unless the Ducks falter and lose a couple of games before Beavs get to them…

    Looking ahead:
@USC -very winnable, SLovis may be out and back-up is relying on Drake for every pass attempt, emotional response to Helton firing is over and they revert to the reality of who they are…no discipline talented team sleepwalking Beavs win close 35-31
UW- beat up on the worst team on their schedule, maybe still reeling from MOntana, Huard probably makes his debut start…Beavs solid win 31-17
@WSU may be ready to implode after having USC on the ropes, Rolo may be gone by this game…Beavs win in a rout on the Palouse 45-21
Utah lost again, and pulled Brewer…QB controversy and WItt is having familiar problems on offense, Beavs offense rolls 35-24
@Cal gets a solid win and may turn their season around but will continue to be limited on both sides of the ball…Beavs win close 28-24
Colorado- Buffs can’t move the ball on offense…Beavs roll in a blowout 38-10
Stanford -may have a qb now, but can’t stop a blanced offense…Beavs win in the cold 28-17
ASU -good talent but may be out of the race by here and lack motivation in the cold…Beavs get win 35-31
@Ducks are vulnerable, and beatable, let them read their press clippings for a while, then burst their bubble …Beavs win in methodical beatdown 45-24

    • I like the optimism and am feeling pretty good as well.

That said, that last 4 game stretch is pretty brutal. Don’t forget @Colorado gives us a big disadvantage with the elevation impact, and they did play TA&M pretty tough. Stanford with a real QB is pretty scary given that they’ve been pretty good with nothing for years now.

    • Fake future news! I like your positivity though. Beavs have a slog ahead of them whether you believe it or not. There will be no easy games moving forward. The last few weeks have shown we have no idea what kind of team we’re going to be playing. You’re list is optimistic that we’ll play the worst level of those teams, but history says we get there good enough to beat us level teams.

    • I’ll stick with my earlier prediction of 7-5.

Pretty much every team in the conference is competitive (except Arizona lol). It’s going to be a grind to get to the postseason but we can get to 6-6.

We really, really need Hodgins back as soon as possible.

  26. In a year where we might have the best teams we’ve had in a long time, the conference looks as bad as I can ever remember. This looks like some legitimate inverse Luck O’ da Beavs.

Nolan’s legit. My only real gripe now is he needs to be smarter with his runs. Run out of bounds when feasible, slide when not. Stop fighting for extra yards- we need you upright for the long haul. Hopefully if/when we need a backup QB, Gebbia is ready at that point. Noyer should not see the field again, and hopefully we can preserve Vidlak’s redshirt.

Yes good points. My early gut says we’re playing USC at perfect time too. We’ll be confident and should be relatively healthy. 34-31 Beavs. Nolan absolutely has to play well. Turn over battle is key.

Can anyone tell me what’s up with McCartan? Anyone, Buehler, Buehler….
The thought of McCartan, Stover and Sharp all lining up on D, all 6’5 or 6’6″, long and athletic, is a D coordinators wet dream

Yeah, their secondary got torched. Still think their depth in the front seven will get them to a Rose Bowl because they’ll expose Oregon.

To think we have to play at Fresno State next season…

    • Has fisher been hurt? He was a solid recruit out of high school. I think originally attended Arkansas. Nice to have backups that are power five talent.

Arizona, three games in, loses to D2 Northern AZ. Now 0-3. Big yikes and why couldn’t we play them this year?? Hard to see them winning a game.

  29. Wow Utah lost to (Brady Hoke’s) SDSU on a 3OT Philly Special after both kickers missed FG’s in 2OT.

Brewer replaced midway through the game as Utah QB. Utah looks less dangerous than expected.

The article is about the media conspiracy. The only study I have seen on dewormer that recommended was withdrawn after peer review.

There’s tons of research on treatment and alternatives that are actually viable.

Oh and yes I’m sick of these dumb fuckers who have literally been wrong for 2 years at every step. WTNY has been wrong over and over with zero recognition of reality or their own failed opinions. They could stand on a pile of bodies making proclamations to feel good about themselves with a smile.

Ivermectin has been used in several countries with good results (see India) but yet it is being hammered in the USA as not even viable. To question why that is seems to be what a good citizen should do. You can call me what ever you would like, I care not. But the good doctor with 35 years in medicine makes a strong case and if you had cared to read the whole piece you would have seen a link to a aggregate of 63 studies that covers 26000 patients and the results are strong in the favor of using ivermectin. Is it the end all? No, nothing at this point is- including the vaccines. Israel is into they’re third round of shots and the cases and deaths numbers continue to climb. They are one of the most vaccinated countries at 78%. To question why is not being a conspiracy theorist but seems to be something all people should be wondering as well as why not Ivermectin in this country. The (de-wormer) cost a few bucks per pill whereas the go to choice in hospital’s for much of this pandemic has been remdesiver which runs around 3000 a single dose. I believe the term ” normalcy bias” has been used on this site from time to time and sure can be used in this context. These are, unfortunately, surely not normal times.

Just shut up dude. No one here is interested. It’s football season and the only thing your horse shit had done is help blow up delta and make it harder to view a game.

        • The head of the japanese department of health is also recommedning Ivermectin. People go insane if you pursue any means of treament besides what’s been shoved in their faces. But, America is also grossly over-medicated so it’s all a bit ridiculous.

  30. Fun PFF rating stuff after three weeks:
-Nolan is the #4 rated passer in the country. #2 QB overall in the P12 (behind Garbers, who has a super high ‘running’ rating)
-Bradford slipped down the WR rankings a bit, but is still ranked #2 in the P12 behind Drake London
-Julian is still our top rated defensive player by a wide margin. Surprisingly, our defensive ratings didn’t move very much.

They weight game situation in the ratings, so I find the guys with high ratings from garbage time interesting. They include:
    -Taliese Fuaga
    -Marco Brewer
    -Tommy Spencer
    -Makiya Tongue
    -Kyrei Fisher

All we need for this offense to function is an efficient QB. Chance only threw for 175 yards yesterday.

We don’t need a QB who throws 350+ a game. Chance certainly has that capability but our strength is the run game. If we rush for 250+ every game, I don’t see how we lose with Nolan.

    • 3
      1

This is why I pay for PFF during football season!
      T
      Taliese Fuaga-15 snaps, 86 rating
Tyler Morano- 15 snaps, 51 rating
      G
Marco Brewer- 15 snaps, 75 rating
Korbin Sorensen- 15 snaps, 56 rating
      C
      Tanner Miller-15 snaps, 27.3 rating

      • Thanks!
Looks like there were 64 offensive snaps, so 15 was pretty good exposure.
I think, and hope, they weren’t the same 15 snaps for that group. Opportunity to build chemistry with the 1’s.

      • It really seems like OL recruiting is a crapshoot or is that just OSU? Miller was a walk on and Morano was a lowly rated recruit that was very light. Pretty surprising that some of those guys are seeing the field over a handful of others.

  31. From USA Today:
Jonathan Smith of Oregon State is replacing former Southern California coach Clay Helton on the panel of coaches for the AFCA Coaches Poll
And, Fresno State joins the poll at #25

  32. Imagine being Andrew Chatfield, coming from Florida where youre routinely playing in front of stadiums with 80k+ fans, to Corvallis where we maybe had 5k fans yesterday.

    • Above average run D rating (not as good as the top two guys, but still good), below average coverage rating like Roberts and Speights.

Roberts and Speights have consistently had poor coverage grades their whole careers. Not sure if it’s because of our system and the rest of the D being bad, or neither is worth much in coverage.

  33. Daschel tweets “very early line has USC as a 13-point favorite over Oregon State.”

-16 would have been a no brainer, under two TD’s? maybe not, thoughts?

And what money line would it take for y’all to put down the rent money?

    • I just don’t like how we match up with them. They have a very strong passing game and that definitely seems to be this defenses weakness. I just feel like if Purdue and Hawaii could throw all over us why shouldn’t a talented USC team be able too. I would feel better if we could run the ball down their throats but not sure if that will be the case. So far they don’t seem to be running as effectively as they did last year. I hope I’m wrong and they can pull out a win but I’m not overly optimistic. The team does seem to be getting better each week and Nolan is playing well so there’s that. The talent and speed of USC will be the most Nolan’s faced so hopefully he can adjust. The line needs to help him out and give him time and open up holes for the running game.

WSU is kind of shit show this year so there’s that. My buddy who’s a WSU fan thinks Rolo is in over his head and doesn’t know what he’s doing.

    • 20.5….

USC’s back-up QB can throw and run…seems like a bad matchup for both O and D lines.

Can OSU keep their head’s up when the game gets tough? Or will they mentally fold: “Here we go again…”

      • 1
        1

Yes, the game will get tough, and yes the Beavs will keep their heads up. That’s been a trait shown by the last few JS squads.
        Will grit be enough?

When is the last time Beavs threw in the towel?

      • I’m glad their backup went crazy against Wazzu. Now we have tape on him and won’t be caught by surprise. Similar to when Nolan came in against Purdue. I doubt he has that much success had he been the starter. Time to see what Tibs is made of.
