12:30 kickoff in our final tuneup for the USC upset. ;)
The interesting topics this week, to me at least, is whether Nolan remains the starter once Gebbia is healthy, and if Gould has replaced Lindsey on the depth chart. Gould has to at least replace Champ. So much better a player it makes you once again question what Smith is thinking.
56-7, Beavs.
Hope to see OSU’s more physical, less experienced receivers get plenty of reps here, they’re going to be needed in league play.
Like to see Nolan hit some receivers in stride…at least two completions were underthrown – otherwise TD’s
Plus the overthrow to Harrison that would have been an awesome TD
Did champ even register a reception? Like the kid, but he’s got to be off kick returns, too many mental errors for a undersized guy
No Champ had no catches against Hawaii. He wasn’t in on offense as much as typical.
They tried a throw to him on a critical play. If he is a normal size, it’s a completion. He is a nice story but should only be a gadget player.
Should only be a practice player. Used to think he could return punts and kicks but eh, we have better options. Gould on kick returns could be very interesting…
Yeah I hate him on kick returns. Not only does he go down on the slightest contact, but he doesn’t seem shifty or agile at all – not sure I’ve ever seen him make someone miss. You’d hope a player that size would be dangerous in space but he’s just not.
And he doesn’t even seem to have special speed. Basically he just runs forward until a defender gets close and then he goes down.
I guess what he has going for him is good hands? Which is obviously important on KR, but at that point just fair catch every time and don’t let me run, ever.
Don’t let *him run, haha. If I was returning kicks, I wouldn’t let me run either.
The down voters must be vertically challenged……
Tribes protecting their own.
Heres how I am framing the results of this game. Idaho played Indiana and got crushed. Indiana played Iowa and got crushed. For the beavs to be at a level where they can compete for P12 championships they would need to be competitive against Iowa. So we should be able to beat Indiana by 10-13 points on average for all my hopes and dreams to come true. Parity in football is usually non-existent but there are some things I would like to see in this game where we are better than Indiana.
1) Sacks – Indiana got 2. I would like to see us get 4+.
2) Rushing yards allowed. Indiana allowed 3.0 ypc. I would like to see us around 2.5 ypc.
3) Rushing yards. Indiana had 3.6 ypc. I would like us to be around 5 ypc.
4) Passing – Indiana was absolutely terrible through the air so no comparison point. We should be well over 300 yards though and I would like to see YAC above 7 YAC. This would show that the receivers are getting open, physically better and that the QB is hitting them in stride.
5) Pass Defense – Idaho getting less than 150 through the air would be awesome. 2+ interceptions would also be really great. I assume there will be plenty of garbage time in this game though so their numbers might get padded. A better stat might be YPC being under 7 yards. This would show that they can’t throw deep and are mostly just throwing to the flat and short routes with very little running room. Indiana allowed 8.5 YPC.
49 – 10 Beavs
There’s no transitive property in football. Each week/game is a unique event. So I wouldn’t put any weight on who beat who at any given time.
Indiana’s star QB played horrible on his first game back from injury. They are better than they looked against Iowa and Iowa looks to have a really good D.
He wasn’t much better against Idaho. They had 150ish through the air with 2 qbs playing. Yikes
Yeah. I said that up top. There are things that indicate a team is doing things better than others like results of individual plays (ypc/yac/hurries/tfl). Absolute results like yardage totals, scores, ToP, turnovers are really bad game to game comparators and work better as season averages.
38-10 Beavs
Let’s not give up a touchdown this game.
48-3 OSU
I like that^^^
We aren’t the only team who made a mistake in a starting QB. Sarkisian just announced he is benching Huston Card next game.
Niner has made plenty of mistakes. At least in the case of the QB, he corrected the problem (relatively) quickly. Sarkisian is a good offensive coach, and it too him two full games to make a switch.
Also, I will feel better about the road loss to Purdue if they upset Notre Lame this weekend.
Sark is a really bad HC, though. Not sure he or his decision making should be our benchmark.
Not excusing it, only noting it isn’t like Niner is the only coach in CFB history to make the mistake. Some players look like Peyton Manning in practice, others are more clutch in games. At least Niner corrected his mistake in the first game.
Someone with more time can probably find at least a dozen of other recent examples from reputable coaches.
Hell even Saban with Jalen Hurts & Tua. Pulled the inconsistent guy out even though they were winning.
Purdue RB Horvath out for season?
4-8 weeks with broken leg.
I didn’t pay attention to kickoffs – was Colletto on returns again?
He was there to fair catch
Similar visitor situation this week. So far, no official visits scheduled. That could change, but it’s mostly going to be unofficial visitors again.
What do you think are the chances CB Demarcus Houston out of Albany ends up being a Beav? Only has 1 offer but as a 2023 guy there is still time for other programs to make an offer.
I like pur chances because he’a one of those rare talented local guys who also seems to be a Beaver fan. He’ll get other offers though, so it won’t be a layup.
My expectations of this game,
Win big. A bigger crowd should be expected.
Beavs had Hawaii beat out at every position in terms of size and athleticism. Hawaii needed to be really smart and create mismatches or misdirection to stay in the game. Offense did their job well. Bullied Hawaii around. It really seems on defense, tibs outsmarted himself vs Hawaii being good. The hawaii qb with 366 yards plus 68 on the ground? That’s ridiculous. Defense should have only gave up 14 points. 9 of 16 on third down was bad. A good defense would have been 4 of 16.
vs Idaho, the defense really needs to bully around the other team. Not let them get anything. Dominate the line of scrimmage. Any letdowns bleed into next weeks game mentality. Can’t stop Idaho, won’t stop usc.
Offense, more of the same. Run run run, some pass. Beat them into submission. And then let the young guys have some reps. Get the backup QB in the game for some handoffs and short throws.
Yep, it would be nice to see a Vidlak 4th quarter.
I wonder if Noyer will play in garbage time. If another scenario happens like last year with the starter getting hurt and you need a guy to come in and handle a play or two in a crucial moment, are you going to go with Noyer or Vidlak? I would prefer to see Vidlak get some pt but I could see Smith letting Noyer play some to see if he could get some confidence in case he needs to start a game later in the year. Maybe it doesn’t matter though if Gebbia comes back and it’s him and Nolan taking all the snaps the rest of the year.
I’d like to see some younger RBs get some reps- see what we have with them. Would like to see some of the high-potential transfer WRs get some play too. And yes definitely want to get Vidlak some experience. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Noyer get the mop-up work though.
On D, it might be nice to try out some new faces in the secondary. Alex Austin seems to be a major weak link at this point. Jones should be back by the USC game, and maybe that makes all the difference.
I’ll add: I think we’re really close on D. I think our front-7 is legit, and if we could tighten up our coverage a little we could have a special unit. No idea if Robinson will play again this year, but if he and Jones are both back, maybe that’s enough.
Any word on Gumbs?
Our defense isn’t good enough to limit them to single digits. Offense shouldn’t be a problem, though. I’m hoping for garbage time reps for backups by the 4th quarter. Let’s have a Vidlak sighting. Get Collins and Newell some reps.
Definitely love to see those 3 in garbage time. If any of them are ‘gamers’ we could see some special stuff.
I want to see our DBs catch the ball. There have been multiple times where an uncaught would-be interception would have prevented a scoring drive. That drives me nuts.
Had some flashbacks to the MR days when it seemed the game was heading to a comfortable blowout and then they would have a let-up.
Next thing you know it’s a game again. JS needs to develop a killer instinct in these guys.
OT: Went to the Immersive Van Gogh exhibit last night. Highly recommend. It it quite awesome.
What does that mean? Genuinely curious.
Its like being inside the art kinda.

You cut your own ear off at the end.
I did it virtually with my hand. My date made a video of it!
Cool. I have the original Starry Night in my living room. At least that’s what the guy who sold it to me said. Weird that I just happened to see him selling it in the Wal-Mart parking lot. Just lucky, I guess.
It’s pretty impressive that VVG painted his original on a blanket instead of canvas. So much more practical
Clay Helton got canned. No idea who the interim will be, but USC has WSU this week followed by the Beavs making the trip down to LA next week.
I can’t tell if that’s good or bad. I liked the way they were trending.
Looks like Dontae Williams is up for the associate HC job now. But USC will do a full national coaching search.
Williams was one of oregon’s top recruiters when he was at UofO, but making the leap from Corners coach to full time head coach seems like a reach.
But i guess it’s more about who you surround yourself with these days(See Mario Cristobal)
Add another program who is continually chasing it’s past.
They’ll go after some big fish. Wonder if they’ll go the rah rah way with a recruiter who needs good coaches to win or a good coach who benefits from being an area with a ton of recruits. Urban Meyer about to quit the NFL, so there’s that option.
My money is on Tom Herman.
Matt Campbell is on the list, at least on Pete Thamel’s list. I’d say unlikely.
“Add another program who is continually chasing it’s past. ”
They could form a conference with such teams…USC, Nebraska, Tennessee, Texas, and others…seems like Miami is pretty much there, maybe FSU if they don’t turn around soon? It would actually be funny to see the in-conference records. A bunch of ties with some underwhelming victories thrown in.
The “Glory Days 10?”
Or for their entitled, rabid fan bases, “The Vicarious 10?”
I think Nebraska, and Tennessee are on another level. They haven’t been relevant in a long time. USC has had some pretty decent records as of late and won some national championships in this millennium. The problem is they all think they should compete for the national championship year in and year out. There are only a few teams that are able to do that.
I don’t disagree that they are chasing their history, but there aren’t many that have the longevity of being good. USC always has a good chance of coming back because it is easy to recruit to that program and there is plenty of money. Coaches matter and they are just a good coach away from being a power.
I didn’t even realize he did these things:
“Helton went 46-24 at USC, highlighted by a Rose Bowl victory to cap the 2016 season. The Trojans’ best year under Helton came the following season, when they went 11-3, won the Pac-12 and ultimately lost in the Cotton Bowl. “
Would be great if Purdue can knock off Notre Dame, but with their RB out who knows
It’s not too much of a drop off with the other two RBs.
I think this sets up good for the Beavs. The usual Luck of the Beavs would have a head coach fired the week before playing the Beavs followed by the Beavs getting torched by an emotional and focused team of 4 and 5 star athletes.
This will be different since the let-down will happen after the initial emotion for USC. They likely will win the WSU game in a blowout, but Beavs will be a classic trap game for the Trojans at home under an interim coach. I think Beavs will win in the Coliseum as USC talent will expect they have righted the ship and have not put in the work…
I don’t think USC has another Ed Orgeron on staff that the players would rally around and go on a win streak for, nor do they have a classic running game to steamroll the conference as in the past. USC has trended softer and softer during the last 10 years and it has finally caught up with them.
I’m surprised Herman, and Graham Harrell weren’t both canned as well. Neither had any answers against Stanford.
Prediction: USC backs up a brinks truck to Chris Petersen’s front door, or maybe Kyle Wittingham, possibly Gus Malzohn, maybe they wait until Urban Meyer gets canned or quits…
Interesting thought: Would we prefer any other coach in the Pac12 besides JS if given the chance to go pay the cash to get him?
Ha… I agree this sets up nicely for the Beavs but doubt they’ll win at SC. Regarding JS, hell yes, there’s a dozen coaches I’d want over JS if we had our pick and money wasn’t a factor… maybe 2 dozen. If we’re talking just current P12 coaches, probably just wittingham or kelly.
They should bring back Kiffin. I loved him at USC
I guess USC fans were organizing and planning to sit out the USC game to send a message to the AD that they needed to get rid of Helton
Now that he’s been fired, that’a off the table and they’ll probably have a celibratory sell out when the Beavs play their next home game and the team will come out and whip the Beavs.
I’m going with Luck O the Beavs is undefeated.
“Interesting thought: Would we prefer any other coach in the Pac12 besides JS if given the chance to go pay the cash to get him?”
Chip Kelly
The next three games are setting up for the Beavs.
Idaho – cupcake.
USC – New coach, struggling team. Agree could be a trap game if they get a solid win at WSU or they might start mailing it if they lose.
UW – offense really struggling. Likely back on the upswing when they come to town but they still will have not solved everything by then.
If UW loses to Arkansas State, I could see that team imploding.
No Gould shouldn’t start in front of Lindsay after 1 good game at Hawaii but should get more opportunities. If he can string together a few good games that becomes more of a question but Lindsay is playing at a high level too. Ride the hot hand of Nolan until it cools down if it does. Then reevaluate.
I think the whole USC thing is good for the Beavs but I just don’t think we match up well with their receivers. Unless pass defense really tightens up it could be a long day regardless but hope I’m wrong.
Need to dominate Idaho and really get some young inexperienced guys some reps. This could be the last chance to blowout an opponent and do so. Should’ve been able to in the last game but let Hawaii back into it.
Lots of players should be ahead of champ tho.
Maybe Champ’s benefit is that in practice, his small catch radius requires accuracy on part of the QBs….seriously, I’ve given the guy kudos for his drive and bravery out there at his weight, but in games, he’s a liability.
I don’t get the champ hate… he’s been wide open for easy touchdowns at least four times… absolutely burned the defender… our QBs can’t get it to him… not his fault
He just doesn’t do anything very well. He’s too small to be an effective blocker, no break tackle ability, very small target that also makes him an int liability, and tends to fall to the ground to make slightly difficult catches. The last is really frustrating to me that he can’t stay balanced on a low catch at 5″5. We have plenty of fast receivers that would’ve been wide open on those same plays with D1 size.
Its not hate. He’s a liability. If he’s covered at all, the CB/DB is taller/bigger, and they can’t get the ball to him. Most of his big plays are when he’s wide open. He had a leaping-take-it-away catch from a DB a few years ago, but pretty sure that was a DII team.
OSU has 3 receivers running 6’1″-6’2″, with Tongue up to about 220+ lbs. That’s the kind of players you need to run against athletes like USC will have. Get them on the ield and get them some practice reps against UI.
Will be interesting to see how many coaches USC tries to pick off from Oregon when they rebuild their staff. Already saw Cristobal on the list of names they’re interested in. Dont see that happening, but Dontae Manning still has a good relationship with several duck coaches. If he sticks around I could see them throwing money at aome of the vulnerable positions to weaken their biggest in conference rival.
I just hope they don’t get their DL coach. He’s one of my favorites for the DC position if Tibs doesn’t right the ship. Weaken Oregon, improve our recruiting and could turn out to be a good DC. A little risky as I dont think he has ever been a coordinator but it might be worth it especially since DL is our weakness.
I thought the weakness was DB’s?
Both. I think we thought DL but it seems they’re better and that tge coverage is weak. Its still early and we’ve only faced passing teams so far so its kind of tough to tell. Over Smith’s tenure I would say the weakest link on the team has been the DL. They just don’t have anybody that consistently beat blocks and get to the passer.
Exactly. That makes Gumbs absence such a problem.
I wonder if Kyrie Fisher is injured too. He put out some cryptic tweet today that made it seem that somethings not right
Maybe he broke his ankles on that reverse pass where the guy then reversed the field back. He was juked terribly or really just cut back on. I had to look up who number 10 was. It was awful almost fell to the ground.
Yes; however, it looks like there is a push up front on most downs, largely because of Sio. I will absolutely take that as good progress. I think the front seven will really improve when Hodgins and Gumbs play (perhaps we can then switch to a 4-3).
Fixing DBs is going to be a more difficult thing to do. The tackling has to be fixed by the USC game.
Or Alabama or Clemson if they want to try and emulate annual contenders.
Might have been covered already, but I read through past posts and didn’t see anything… Where is Gumbs? He’s healthy, but “unavailable” per Smith… Simu Kuli reborn?
We don’t really know. He was on the sidelines being a pretty good cheerleader at Hawaii.
OT: Raiders’ kicker nailed a 55-yard FG to send the game into overtime. Hope to see OSU’s kicker do that…not necessarily for overtime.
Also, Carr can throw quite a ways while moving backwards and throwing off his back foot. Seemed to do it (in the highlights anyway) when the WR was really open, so less INT risk.
“The interesting topics this week, to me at least, is whether Nolan remains the starter once Gebbia is healthy…”
Well, Nolan started hot against Hawai’i, and should have an easy time against UI.
So, looking at the schedule, and assuming Nolan plays well against UI, I’d think you go with him @ USC. USC is down, and Gebbia is “game rusty” and his recovery may still be at least somewhat limiting to ability to move and plant and throw. OSU had a good chance for a long over due victory there, and having a mobile QB, presumably with a 2 game win streak of confidence, helps.
Similar opportunities for the Beavers to score long-awaited victory follows the week after v. UW, then @ WSU. Then’s there’s a bye October 16.
After the bye week its v. Utah which will likely feature its usual 27-year old defensive linemen. So a mobile QB helps. Or one that reads and gets rid of the ball quickly.
Nolan is in a great position. USC is down, UW and WSU are down. If he can play well against DI competition, he could potentially help OSU address multiple-year losing trends before the bye. I think I read OSU has lost to WSU 7 years in a row now? If he leads the Beavers to victory over USC, UW, and WSU, its his job.
If he just plays poorly against DI @ USC then v. UW, then I think maybe Gebbia could start at WSU?
I REALLY wish they’d pulled out a victory at Purdue. This season has lots of positive potential. I also wish Gulbranson were available to provide another option.
Gotta leave Nolan in until he gives you a reason to pull him for someone else. We don’t have the defense to play catch up if swapping players doesn’t work out. And JS hasn’t been very proactive in pulling players when needed, he’s always 2 or 3 series late.
You can’t have your QB looking over their shoulder after every bad throw.
Then stop making so many bad throws
I dont think its really a question if Nolan starts if Gebbia is healthy. He will start until he shows the inability to produce and move the offense. He shouldn’t have any trouble against Idaho so it will all depend on how he plays at USC. If he struggles then they will reevaluate the situation but until he does there isn’t any reason to bench him just because a guy who hadn’t won the job in camp is now healthy. The great thing is that the schedule is great for him to build up his confidence and rythm with the offense with hawaii and next Idaho. I think he’ll need a strong run game and solid protection going into USC to help him. The defense also can’t let them get down early. Can’t have stupid penalties putting them behind the sticks.
It’s a tough situation. Gebbia would have been the starter if healthy. Once ready, he needs reps to play well. Not sure if there’s time right now.
If Gebbia is healthy, he should get snaps vs Idaho. Nolan will get the start vs USC but if he struggles badly, coaches should put Gebbia in.
My guess is the beavs would have beaten Purdue had they started Nolan. He easily meets the eyeball test whereas Noyer doesn’t.
Most coaches and ADs across the country know that the USC program is a cesspool. To the donors, the “glory years” are the Carroll era that put them on probation and yanked their titles. Throw in the success Kiffin and Orgeron have had elsewhere (the jury is still out on Sark) after getting canned and people realize, it isn’t the coach but the 25 assistant ADs trying to justify their existence.
Good points. Cheatin’ Pete ramped up expectations, but people don’t count the cost of his ways. And they dip into their alumni, for example Pat Haden as AD when he likely wasn’t qualified for that position.
You don’t think the ducks have been cheating for a number of years too? Ducks have been on probation and several recruiting violations. The major difference is, usc has national titles to show for it and the ducks don’t and probably never will.
What do people think about the Alliance and the proposed schedule changes? The idea that is solidifying is that the PAC 12 would go down to 8 conference games and each team would have a minimum of one BIG 10 game each season. IMO this would be great. We have needed to drop the 9 conference games for a decade and with a BIG 10 game in OOC theres no need to have any additional strength of schedule OOC games. The majority of PAC 12 teams could probably enter PAC 12 play 2-2 or 3-1 which would help with early season rankings and get more teams into the top 10 by the end of the year.
It would be fine if conference champs are guaranteed a spot in the playoffs. Then losing a game in non conference wouldn’t hurt so much.
The sec is going to get a huge media deal. The alliance needs to provide non conference matchups that casual fans will watch. Ending the games and payouts to g5 teams could increase in person attendance.
They should add the Alabama Bye Week, schedule a patsy body bag game toward the end of the season to pad stats and rest starters.
Well I got my first vaccine shot today. Pretty nervous about the rare cases where it causes clots. Wish me luck. I immediately felt a bit dizzy, but that could have been the shot.
It been good to know you buddy……say hi to Jack!
Take it easy for a few days and you can take a mild blood thinner like bayer
Agreed. I had an elevated heart rate and some weird tingling in my sternum region two weeks after I got the first shot. It persisted for about a week.
Doctor told me to get some blood thinner, and the feeling went away.
What I notice so far is just a mild light-headedness and what feels like a very light phlegm in the chest (strange, can’t find this side effect listed).
I got the Pfizer juice. Nothing after the first shot. After the second I had a low grade fever for about 12 hours the next day. Felt a bit like poo but still made it into work.
That’s just the microchip being activated. It’s temporary
Once he assimilates and buys a windows upgrade he will be fine.
Hahah. When I change the name to “happyducks.com” you’ll know why.
Ever heard of the Jupiter Effect? Don’t worry about Jupiter though as Uranus is cooked….haha. keep me posted as I’m scheduled for J&J on September 29th. I too have some concerns due to some health considerations so I’m debating whether or not to go through with it. I didn’t catch the first round of Covid although the delta variant is much more contagious. I did read the J&J is about 9x more effective against delta than moderna or Pfizer. I think you’ll be fine after that micro chip passes through Uranus.
No I haven’t, but they think Jupiter played a huge role in intelligent life forming on earth by absorbing many massive asteroids and comets. Apparently a planet that size is very rare in other solar systems.
By the way, NB had the JJ vaccine and had very bad reactions. You might want to get Pfizer. It seems the safest.
Good to know. I know others that have had JJ AMD did fine. I guess it probably has a lot to do with your immune system. Did you get Pfizer and is NB okay now. I’m torn 50-50 on getting vaxxed.
I’m fine now other than occasional onsets of vertigo. But that’a all minor to the 2 week period after getting that shot.
My best way to explain it was it felt like my immune system was attacking my central nervous system and my body deteriorated rapidly over that period. Lost about 15-20 lbs and some motor function, was always tired and lots of chills running through my body. Couldnt get good sleep either.
Then, almost 2 weeks to the hour from when i got the shot, it all stopped as suddently as it started and i started recovering.
Needless to say, I’m not interested in the J&J booster whenever they start pushing it and will go the Moderna route.
Also. Nobody else i know who got the J&J had these issue. I was the lucky one.
I know people that have had side effects with all of them. I was fine with JNJ.
It’s all a crap shoot.
My FIL had a mild stroke after the 2nd shot of Pfizer. Everyone is different…
Wow, really?
Did they attribute it to the vaccine? If so, how do they know that caused it?
Yah…doc said they have seen issues with blood clotting following the shots. My FIL never had any prior issues so it’s a little scary. Definitely consult with your doc before getting the vaccine. My doc told me to hold off on the booster.
Not sure you want my 2 cents, but I was wondering where you read the 9x J&J against delta thing and found this:
https://www.jnj.com/johnson-johnson-announces-data-to-support-boosting-its-single-shot-covid-19-vaccine
“ New interim data from these studies demonstrate that a booster dose of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine generated a rapid and robust increase in spike-binding antibodies, nine-fold higher than 28 days after the primary single-dose vaccination.”
Otherwise the data suggests that moderna is the most effective against delta:
https://www.healthline.com/health-news/heres-how-well-covid-19-vaccines-work-against-the-delta-variant#Vaccines-vs.-Delta-variant
“ ESTIMATED EFFECTIVENESS OF PFIZER-BIONTECH VACCINE
Anywhere from 42 to 96 percent effective against the Delta variant with two doses.”
“ ESTIMATED EFFECTIVENESS OF MODERNA COVID-19 VACCINE
Studies mostly estimate a similar protection level as the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, with numbers ranging from 66 percent to 95 percent effectiveness.”
“ ESTIMATED EFFECTIVENESS OF J&J COVID-19 VACCINE
More comprehensive studies are needed to reach a definitive answer.”
I got Pfizer and other than having a headache a few days after the second shot I was fine. YMMV. Sounded like about half of folks I know had flu-like symptoms for a day after.
Anyone here have a lot of experience with road bikes? Think I finally need to upgrade my 2003 Giant to something better because I’m biking much longer distances now. Kind of torn on frame material (other than not wanting steel).
Funny, my current bike is also a Giant, circa 2003.
It’s heavy, but has been a really durable bike. Havent had to shop for another yet
Nice. Yeah, exactly, I haven’t had a need to upgrade it, but I’m biking almost 100 miles on weekends now, and I think at this point I should invest in something better. My bike is aluminum and actually pretty light, but it has 23 tires on it, and I’ve been going on some less than ideal roads, so I think bumping to 25 makes sense for that and to add some comfort on these longer rides.
I’ve been riding like crazy the last year. I got a carbon fiber hard tail Trek mountain bike with 29” wheels at the beginning of the summer.
My old Trek was circa ‘94. It was like going from a Model T to a modern BMW. You will love a new bike!
Full suspension was a revelation for me…got me back into biking again.
I have a carbon fiber road bike which was old when I bought it c2004. It’s a smooth ride; my gripes aren’t related to the frame material, but rather the aggressive riding position and the lack of stopping power. Ive liked the aluminum frame bikes I’ve ridden too. Never rode titanium.
I used to ride some. My bike was a scandium/aluminum alloy. I liked it. Light and a good balance of stiffness and flexibility. Technology has really ramped up over the past few years, though, and I think carbon fiber is pretty much the standard.
I have an aluminum Giant Trance full suspension mtn. bike w/27.5”. A bit heavier than I’d like, but otherwise great and a great value. I find the geometry of Giant tends to fit me well.
I have a Raleigh aluminum “gravel” bike that is light and comfortable.
You could pick up a good, used Orbea aluminum bike with carbon fork on Craig’s list…or go Carbon fiber and let us know how you like it.
You had me until the end. I’ve had a steel Co-motion for almost 20 years that I love. Has some give on the long rides. I had an aluminum commuter until recently which would pound me pretty good with every little bump in the road. There should be a lot of nice used bikes where you are with the number of people who ride there. Roadies are moving to 25 tires over 23s because of the extra cush, the contact patch is rounder so less rolling resistance, and the aerodynamics are better. I have an aluminum cyclocross bike that’s really light and is very snappy when accelerating.
As you can tell from my avatar I’m a guy that knows a thing or two about bikes.
I’ve attached a link to a great site you can use to look for used bikes. Keep in mind that when buying a bike right now you will be paying a premium because of the major supply shortages for all companies. If you find something on here that checks all your boxes but isn’t local. I would highly recommend bikeflights.com as a way to ship it. Both sites are highly reputable.
As for frame material. Carbon is the way to go if it’s in your budget. Lighter and absorbs more road vibrations than aluminum. It’s also stiffer and will transfer energy more efficiently. With that being said you probably won’t notice the weight savings between a carbon and quality aluminum frame nearly as much as you will notice upgrades in the quality of components over your 2003. As you research more you will notice a sweet spot for components that falls right in the middle of the price range. This range typically gives you the same quality of shifting and reliability as the top end but won’t be quite as light (again someone who doesn’t ride all the time or compete probably won’t notice the difference). In the world of bikes primarily what you are paying for is weight savings and new gadgetry (example electronic shifting). Much like race cars, going faster to a point can be relatively inexpensive. But you soon hit the point of diminishing returns. Hope this is helpful.

Good to know. I know others that have had JJ AMD did fine. I guess it probably has a lot to do with your immune system. Did you get Pfizer and is NB okay now. I’m torn 50-50 on getting vaxxed.
Got Pfizer shot a few months, had a little soreness for a hour or two, good ever since
No side effects after 2nd shot
Some of my friends believe if you don’t have a reaction after the second shot, then it’s not working. Weird belief. They wanted to feel bad…
Got the pfizer, no problems with either one, except some ringing in my ears, but that could be from my baby… I’m about 40 FWIW
Thx to everyone for their responses. Next question, did they inject you in the left or right testicle or both?
Neither. They go straight up the shaft
Norm McDonald died. Probably my favorite all time comedian.
What!!!! Fuck!!!
Such a random bit, but one of my favorite Norm clips from SNL.
https://www.dailymotion.com/video/xqm273
Saw that. Didn’t know he had cancer. Sad.
Couple years ago David Spadd had a show on comedy central called lights out. One show it was Spade, Norm McDonald, Dennis Miller and Kevin Nealon. All ex SNL weekend update hosts. When SNL was actually funny and good.
Was a great show with them telling stories from SNL. Good watch if you can find it.
RIP Norm.
Kevin Nealon also a very underrated comic.
Nealon is great, too, yeah.
This joke……
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fCeSoiNh0Z4
Saw Nealon perform at Gill Collesium back in the day
Going to see Bob Saget at Helium on Saturday
Saget is awesome. Surprisingly one of the more vulgar comedians I’ve seen, but funny as hell.
Saw Kevin Nealon 100 years ago at the Ice House in Pasadena, pre-SNL, agreed,, funny dude.
Per Daschel, PAC 12 Commissioner impressed by OSU facilities (Foootball, baseball, softball, Reser expansion), enthusiasm for OSU baseball, quality if student athletes. Will return for Stanford @ OSU….
More from the PAC12 Commish, per Daschel’s twitter:
“I sat in a room with a bunch of the student athletes at Oregon State and tried to figure out which one of them I might eventually end up working for.”
“I think Womens Basketball is probably our biggest growth sport…for all of college athletics…”
One thing that I think would help the offense immensely would be wr screens or even just the quick pass to the wr when the db is too far off. They are usually good for at least a few easy yards and can really stretch the D. It makes them cover sideline to sideline and very short passes. That allows them to get deep easier and can soften the middle for the run game as the Lbs and safeties have to be worried about a guy catching a 0 yard pass and taking it up the sideline. They did it a little with Taylor last year and he would get like 10 yards a pop.
Yes. Beason showed how effecting that could be against Purdue. I know everyone here loves Riley. He would run those plays just to make the d think (fly sweep!!!!)
Even just a few times to keep them honest. I would think that YAC would be a strength of this receiver group being full of fast agile guys. You could even split out Musgrave and Tongue and have them blocking smaller DBs.
No idea why we weren’t calling more screens vs Purdue.
In general I’ve noticed that we’ve seemed to open up the playbook quite a bit more when league play sets in. Not sure if that’s related to valuing conference wins more or just slowly introducing stuff so as to not overwhelm the players? Either way it’s annoying.
Start time in L.A. announced, 7:30. TV: FS1…………unless??
https://pac-12.com/football/schedule/20210921-20210927
These late start times suck
Right? Maybe upset USC w/no audience
Hopefully more wins will equal better start times. I’m on the east coast and staying up past 2am these days ain’t the easiest with a toddler in the house.
sedge post practice https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUXdmMS07ac
Lame that Lindgren is trying to downplay Nolan’s camp so the coaches don’t look bad.
There’s nothing wrong with giving more reps to your incumbent starter and an all-conference QB. Reports seemed to be no one was playing well, so it’s not like the coaches just missed how good Chance was. They’ve made some weird personnel decisions (e.g. Champ), but this one was totally understandable. They deserve credit for making a change and not giving into bias for the decision they already made.
I mean the last few weeks of camp there seemed to be a lot of media talk on how Nolan was making a push. Coaches messed up, and it cost us a winnable game.
No Nolan messed up by not having a better camp and winning the job and letting Noyer out play him in camp.
Nolan reminds me a bit of an 80s coke addict.
It worked for Lawrence Taylor…
Hey NB! Really appreciate all the work you put into recruiting. If you get a minute in your busy schedule, take a look at Royce Fasel, out of Glencoe High in Hillsboro. Dudes the strongest kid on the field, and fastest. Just undersized at 6′ 235 lbs. He single handedly beat my old high school and could use some Beaver loving. Maybe not full ride, but definitely PWO status.
Maybe explains the high throws…
The more I think about the Helton firing, the more I think it could only be about donors. Keeping the same coordinators and firing a well-liked coach isn’t going to make the team play better, they aren’t going to hire a big name HC soon unless they find someone out of work so recruiting won’t improve (it was already in a good place) and teirs wasn’t a train wreck situation like the GA exit from all reports.
Just a thought: why doesn’t OSU just schedule a game at Hawaii every year? It’d be a decent rivalry (Hawaii’s a solid program, though they’re down this year) and would help us get to 6 wins every year.
Follow that up with a home game vs. local FCS, a home and home with a P5, and a game in Portland against a respectable opponent (e.g. San Diego State), and we would have 4 games in before conference play starts.
They could also play an extra game every year…
Are they allowed to do that without scheduling Hawaii on the road? My understanding was that all FBS teams were limited to 12 games for the regular season.
Teams from the mainland who play at Hawai’i can play 13 games if they choose. The last time Beavs played @UH (2019) they elected not to play the extra game.
I do like the idea of playing Portland state on the road and then 2 home non con games as a way to limit travel and give local fans more access to games. I’m guessing Hawaii road trips dont make sense financially, even with the extra FCS game added to the schedule
NB – Would road trips to Hawaii help with recruiting the islands? Let a couple coaches make visits on Sunday before flying home?
Recruits knowing they would make regular trips home for games if they played for OSU would help more.
Extra contact with coaches would help too, but we can send them over for in home visits anyway, without the whole team needing to travel.
I like the games in Portland because while Providence Park seats only 25K, it would be a great atmosphere, and people would pay more for the tickets. Such a game would need to be paired with an opponent (e.g. SDSU) that consistent wins in the non-P5 in order to get an at least an FS1 or CBS Sports slot. I have respect for what PSU does, and wouldn’t mind playing them non-conference a few times in Portland, but they just don’t attract the TV contracts like a respectable non-P5 opponent would.
The Portland market is something the Beavs or Ducks haven’t taken advantage of; the result is that Washington takes up a lot of recruits.
And a home game with OSU/PSU in Reser would only draw about 25k anyway. I’d rather see 25k in a small stadium than 25k in Reser
Next year would be a good year do do it with reser under construction. No to psu. Need to have a halfway decent opponent to sell out.
The point in playing PSU on the road(with PSU as host)is you get to schedule 2 other non conference games at home and never have to leave the state for most of the season. And a PSU vs OSU game at Providence Park would sell out. So many Portland fans dont make the trip down to Reser anymore because games are on TV amd you don’t get home till 1:00am. Put the game in Portland and they’ll show up.
Why would psu be the host? It would seem OSU would have to pay them to play.
Not all benefits are short term $$$ issues. An easy access game in Portland would be good for the fan base, get kids to see games for future fan base, easy opportunity for potential recruits to go to a game in the Portland metro as middle and high school kids. The #1 reason younger fans don’t attend is that the drive is a pain in the ass and if you have kids it’s a nightmare. If you can have a game in Portland you might get young beav families in seats which increases future buy in TV games and they might be more likely to take a trip to corvallis if it’s a good time.
They would be host because they are in Portland. The ADs can work out a contract that is favorable for both teams. PSU could let OSU have a certain percentage of ticket sales in exchange for making the trip to their site. Could he a win/win for both teams. Or even call it a neutral site.
PSU needs more butts in the seats badly. This weekend their coach is promoting their game against Western Oregon by saying he will pay for all beer sales at the game. Amd tix to their game are $10 for adults and $3 for kids.
He could end up with a pretty hefty bar tab Saturday.
Of course it would be a sell-out at Providence Park if OSU played PSU.
Pickem games for this week are set
New format? Possible error?
No Beavs game listed, 15 games are listed but only allowed to pick 12.
I’ll take a look.
Beavs game isnt listed because they dont post point spreads for FCS games, so it’s not even an option.
I had initially published 12 games but thiught i corrected it to 15 a couple minutes later. Bot sure what’s going on there
I just re’published. Let me know if you dont see 15 games still
Allowed to pick only 12 of the 15 listed, is this new?
Thought we picked 12/12 in the past; so now all players don’t necessarily pick the same 12?
I probably screwed something up earlier. It’s weird it allowed me to choose 15. If you’ve ever dealt with managing a pool on that site, it’a a pretty loose operation.
I’ve removed 3 games, so we’re back to 12. You all should double check that you have selections made for all of them before Saturday.
Thanks for the heads up Oob
Thanks for running the pool!
Maybe if I was allowed to pick 15 and only use the best 12 I’d be a little higher in the standings……LOL
If USC went outside of the USC tree and went with a highly successful, CA roots coach maybe a darkhorse name for USC job: Sac St coach Troy Taylor
He was innovative offensive mind for Jake Brownings record setting high school teams, OC for Eastern Washington’s great run, at Utah for a few years as OC and already coach of the year at Sac St after 2 years…
If you’re going there you go get an fbs coach that has been successful at a smaller school like the ragin Cajuns guy. Can you imagine the uproar if they hired Sacramento states coach even if you are right…
USC isn’t OSU. They fired Helton for the donors and you can bet the donors will want a splashy higher.
It’s going to be Chris Petersen. Lock it in.
Wow, I’m killing it in that CBS league…………..
Lorenzo coming to the Beavs???
Doubt it, but havent really looked closely at him in months.
Just retweeted it cause he was on our June official visitor list at one point.
And we were in his “top 6”
Saw that he’s committing tomorrow. NB have any info on it?
I’m not going to make a prediction on it cause i just havent followed the guy lately. My initial though is LATech, but I just noticed Coach Doctor “liked” his recent “committing tomorrow” tweet. Just struck me as odd because cosches dont usually interact with those types of tweets.
I’m not counting OSU out at least.
So I pulled the trigger on a new bike last night. The bike market is insane right now. This won’t ship until March of 2022! Oh well. Next riding season is going to be so fun. My lady grabbed one (same bike), too, so we can adventure together and carry compatible repairs.Went with a gravel bike so we can ride roads and then go explore all the interesting looking dirt roads and trails we see while out. I was debating steel vs titantium bikes because I wanted the durability, but ultimately went with steel for this one. Not even sure why. I just liked the look of the bike and the reviews I read. It’s going to be about 21lbs fully setup. My Giant is 19.5lbs and aluminum. I doubt the 1.5lbs will be too noticeable. I could just lose the weight on my body to make up that difference, no?
If you are actually going to ride gravel, you’ll want the right tires. Mine came with thin-walled tires (lighter) that were prone to flats on gravel. I switched to thicker-walled tires that were slightly heavier but worth it. You could also get a set of spare wheels w/road tires if you end up on pavement a lot.
Yeah I got the default 44 tires because I didn’t feel like spending any more $.
Might be too wide for road. Ideally I think 38 or 40 is probably the sweet spot, but I can make that switch later. Definitely will be riding gravel, and that’s the primary reason we upgraded. We see so many cool dirt roads while out on our standard road bikes…now we can go explore. Well, in March.
You’ll be fine on dirt. Angular gravel is the problem.
It’s entertaining to watch duck fans squirm a little.
Cristobal was on Doug Gottlieb’s show today and Gottlieb asked him of he had anything to say about rumors of his name being brought up in the USC coaching search.
Mario’s response was “Go Ducks”
Duck fans at first loved it and Mario “owned” Gottlieb with that anseer, but now are worried because he didn’t actually dispell any rumors, and Willie Taggart had a pretty similar non-response type answer when asked similar questions about FSU rumors a couple years back. “We’re just focused on our bowl game”
Yeah, when I heard he said “Go Ducks!” I was like “LOL he gone”.
Duck fans still think Phil makes them on par with the god-tier programs though so they at least got that cognitive dissonance to lean into.
I dont know that it means he’s gone, but he’d be stupid to no hear the offer and then use it for leverage for more money from either USC or Oregon.
Especially after the Ohio State win, he’s been elevated to God status in Eugene.
True true, just didn’t strike me as an unintentional choice of words.
It was a great answer. Ambiguous enough where both sides think he’s leaving or staying.i interpreted his answer as “I’m coaching the team that pays me the most”. Good for him, coaching tenures are getting shorter and shorter. Use any leverage you can.
Only wish the ducks bit on taggart before he left for fsu.
But as duck fans point out, didnt’ they just give him another new contract? I think he is already on his 3rd contracts in not very many years.
That’s their problem. Not his.
It would suck if he left as he’s not a very good coach IMO.
While we’re waiting for Saturday…
When was the 2022 schedule decided? Who is the AD responsible for scheduling Boise State, Fresno State, AND Montana State (an FCS powerhouse) for OOC? Was it De Carolis?
We literally gain nothing from going 3-0, or 2-1, or 1-2, aside from the game in Portland vs MSU.
Yah I agree with you.
Didn’t realize we play in Portland in 2022 though, that’s pretty sweet.
Pretty much the last challenging year in the scheduled future. Compared to the BDC body bag parade I’m fine with it. Fresno is much better than when they were scheduled but that’s life. I tried to find an old article on who scheduled it but the closest I could find was a 2017 article that mentioned future stuff for BSU. I would guess atleast the Broncos was a BDC scheduling.
Depends on how we finish 2021. If we have a good year, we should start in a decent position in preseason polls. 3-0 would be enough to push us into the top 25 because there’s always overrated teams in the 17-25 spots.
I hate the body bag games as much as the next guy. To play devil’s advocate tho did that money help build the pretty nice above average facilities that they have? IDK. I think ultimately the team is better served having less losses on the record but just wondering about how far that money goes. That said I prefer the tune up games that should be wins. I don’t like the risky high level G5 games like Boise or Fresno etc. Better off playing a purdue or something at that point. Not to mention they always seem to schedule teams at their top. Like Boise, Fresno, Hawaii, Cincinnati, Louisville etc.
New Sedge up.
Dubose chose LaTech
Dubose to LA Tech. Hometown school and will get a lot of playing time so good for him.
Nice Lindsey back in the lineup this weekend. Hopefully Gould takes Champ’s reps. If not, makes you question Smith’s personnel decision making once again. Downvote all you want, but it won’t change that reality.
We had so many pumpkins grow in the garden that we’re inviting friends over for a u-pick this weekend. Lol. The power of one stray seed that landed in the compost…
I had a yellow pear tomato plant pop up next to my fence probably 50 feet from my garden, right behind one of my blueberries. Once I realized what it was I went ahead and put it on the water/feed schedule, free is my favorite kind.
That’s awesome…and the blueberries.
When I bought my house the back yard was lined with all manner of flowers and shrubs and whatnot. 1/3 acre lot, that’s a decent amount of beds and fence line. After a few years I got sick of pruning/watering/fertilizing just to have something to look at. So I kept my favorite couple of roses, and uprooted everything else and went and bought 10 big mature blueberry plants from a farm out by Junction City. Getting something for my effort now.
I also have an old growth wisteria and the biggest most out of control butterfly tree on the planet. Keeps the bees and the hummingbirds happy.
That’s awesome!
Could literally talk about fruit, gardening, etc forever but should probably bite me lip given it’s a sports site.
Or start angrygardening.com
Overripe tomatoes are the gift that keep on giving
Seriously so good when they hit that bright bright red. It’s like eating candy. We pick them off the vine and eat them while standing in the garden. It doesn’t get any better. The cherry tomatoes and San Marzanos went insane this year. Who knew you can grow San Marzanos here? But it makes sense given the dry climate. The old beefsteak seeds that OOB is amazed by keep producing, too.
Best ones in my garden this year are sunsugar tomatoes. Cherry size , dark orange when they’re ripe. So good.
Also, if you’re not growing lemon cucumber’s You’re missing out.
Ever try Armenian yard long cucumbers? My wife loves this things. I’m more of a traditional English cucumber guy.
I planted Armenian cucumbers when I lived in Utah on a lark and sort of ignored them. I couldn’t believe how big they got and I thought I had let them go too long. Nope, they tasted great.
BTW…tonight’s dinner is an eggplant green pepper curry with basil on top, all grown from the garden.
WFO, growing Boston pickling cucumbers. I’m kind of disappointed by them. Too much a peppery taste. Maybe I’ll try those lemon ones. Are they good for pickling?
No, definitely not for pickling. Fresh slicers for salads. They get soft after a couple of days, I assume that’s why they don’t sell them in stores. Pick em and eat em fresh within a couple of days and they’re so good.
After the big harvest are you planting a cover crop?
Normally I’d advise fresh seeds, but in view of my past mistakes I’ll be quiet on that.
Weather is looking like rain and more rain. Meaning run run and more runs. Unless the wind picks up the passing game shouldn’t be affected. Short high percentage throws and keep moving the sticks.
Dominate the line of scrimmage and the game might actually finish in under 3 hours.
Thanks Bill, for the post related to football! (just kidding all you gardeners)
Should be good for the plants.
Forecast for showers and 12 mph wind.
Unnamed source says Mario Cristobal is USC’s top choice. I would’ve thought they’d go after a big name rather than “stooping” to the level of just pulling a conference rival’s coach.
Lol. Have fun with that.
Let’s pretend he goes there. How would he do? I know he recruited well at Alabama…it’s Alabama. He didn’t do well at FIU but it was a young program. Would he do well at a school like USC as a head coach? Would be able to get good recruits just like he is doing at Oregon. Doesn’t seem to make the best in game coaching moves although duck fans will now say but he beat Ohio State!!! Different pressure at a place like USC. He’s at a school with literally no competition in conference. Radio this morning talk about Washington moving on from Lake or at least firing the o coordinator if they can’t score points this weekend against Arkansas State. I doubt he goes but fun to see duck fans squirm.
Helton’s and Cristobal’s win %’s at USC/Oregon are pretty similar. Helton actuallly has a better in-conference record. If you’re USC, the only way that move makes sense is if you’re convinced USC can inherently recruit at a meaningfully higher level than Oregon, and I’m not sure that’s the case if you look at the rankings.
His strategy of recruiting the lines would work out well at USC, who already tend to recruit the lines well. His (or his staff’s) ability to build from that at the other positions is impressive, at least in terms of star ratings.
Cristobal seems good for 1-2 losses per year based on coaching decisions, but so far JS is too.
What do you think JS and his staff would do in terms of wins w/the current Ducks roster?
Move in from Lake already? Didn’t UW once go 0-12 and keep the coach? (Who was that coach?) There’s just no patience anymore…
Tyrone Willingham IIRC
Your unnamed source is wrong.
Lol not my source. Just an article floating around out there (CFN, maybe?)
Probably crisco’s agent floating it, for a bigger pay raise from pk
“WR Tyjon Lindsey and DB Elijah Jones both “should go” against Idaho, per Oregon State HC Jonathan Smith.”
Good news, but still nothing solid on Gumbs.
If we could choose, I’d think Gumbs would have a greater impact than Jones……..still, good for Jones to get some game time.
I disagree on that- I think Jones has the biggest impact. We have a lot of great depth at LB but our DBs have been shaky this year. Gumbs is promising but coming off injury and it’s a position of strength for us- I’m sure he’ll play but would he move the needle vs our other talented guys? I’m not sure.
So many times we have really good pressure but we still give up a first down BC the DBs don’t quite give us enough time. One impact CB could change that.
Good points, Alex. Long term though, I think Gumbs ability to disrupt the QB could be a key to pass defense against most of the PAC12 opponents. Not sure any of our “deep” LB group has shown to be quite as disruptive as Gumbs.
Pass blocking is a major weakness for Idaho. If we can’t get 3-4 sacks against them without Gumbs, we really aren’t that deep.
Does Canzano do shit just to be a provocateur? His prediction for the game is 26-14 Beavs.
Do you pay attention to him? Then it’s working.
Most here have read his stuff since for better or worse he’s the voice of the Portland media.
Can another had the time to make a beavs game prediction?
He and pretty much every sports hack at the O has been busy fondling Cristoballs all week.
Final predictions, let’s hear them. Person closest gets a tandem bike ride to in-n-out burger. Yip yip…..
63-3 beavs
350 passing
250 rushing
5 sacks
4 turnovers
Idaho 200- total yards
Idaho POG former beaver punter Caleb Lightbourne
Speaking of Lightbourne, he’s averaging 50 yards per punt, every kickoff has been a touchback, but he’s had 2 punts blocked already.
52-24 Beavs
-We’ll all still be nervous about the defense heading into USC week
-A key player on offense will get injured
-Nolan will continue to impress against lower level competition. Some of us will be all in, others will be unconvinced.
Score predictions are tough in a game like this. Let’s say we completely outclass them (as we should) and it’s 35-0 at the half. Likely we see our 2s in the 3rd quarter and 3s in the 4th, and the final score may be more like 45-28. The scores are heavily influenced by how hard we’re trying and by how hard we need to try. Super hard to predict.
I’m guessing the final spread is around 20 Beavs. Actual score is a lot tougher but…I’ll say 52-31.
59-13 Beavs!
JS has no inclination to run up scores. I’ll go generic, something like 42-14.
48-21 Beavs.
Defense scores their first TD of the year. Backups are playing 10 minutes into the third quarter, getting some much needed experience, but gives up a couple of touchdowns.
35-17 Beavs
PHIL STEELE REPORT:
Oregon St has won 27 of the last 29 in the series, but only 1 of those meetings occurred when both teams were FBS opponents. That was in their last meeting in ‘06 when OSU posted a 38-0 shutout. Idaho is 1-5 ATS vs FBS foes, and they lost their last 4 vs Power 5 teams by 72, 53 , 47 & 42. Idaho moved down to FCS in ’18, went just 4-7 (-86 ypg) then went 5-7 in ’19. They beat Eastern Washington for the 2nd straight season in spring, but only went 2-4 and was -57 ypg after being ravaged by injuries. The Vandals won their opener over Canadian College Simon Fraser 68-0 then lost at Indiana 56-14. Idaho was only outgained 338-261 and 2 of Indiana’s TD’s were on ST’s, along with 13, 28 & 32 yd td drives. The Beavers are off a 45-27 win over Hawaii and finished with a 558-454 yd edge but needed a late TD for a front door cover. Oregon St has USC on deck. Chance Nolan is hitting 69% with a 2-0 ratio and BJ Baylor has rushed for 195 (7.2). Idaho is playing to an AGG of 87.4 and Oregon
St is at 104.4 so that only has the Beavers by 20 and last weeks finals were somewhat misleading so I
lean with the dog here.
OREGON STATE 42 IDAHO 24
Las Vegas Line: Oregon State by 23.5
Las Vegas Total: 61.5 Points
+/- Ratings: Oregon State by 25.8
Game Grade: Oregon State by 19.8
Computer Yards: Oregon State 739-55
Computer Points: Oregon State 47-11
Spreadsheet Prediction: Oregon State by 23
If the beavers give up 24 yo vandals, that’s a step in the wrong direction and doesn’t set up nicely for USC. 42-14 should be more like it.
The only reason I’m excited about this game is the chance to see some young players like Vidlak and get them some experience. Would be nice having 1 more qb with experience heading into pac 12 play.
Getting to 2-1 for the first time in forever would be nice too. Hopefully they can really use this game to clean up some things and fine tune them for USC.
Might be better to give Noyer the reps than Vidlak(?).
I think it would be good to maybe give a couple of series in the 3rd and then let Vidlak finish the 4th ideally. Let Noyer get some confidence back before conference play but also you got to think about the future beyond this season.
Isn’t Noyer like a 9th year senior?
Dude has all the reps he needs, if he’s not clutch by now he never will be.
I don’t think vidlak is getting in. Best for him to sit and learn. Nothing to really gain by handing the ball off.
And gain weight…
Totally disagree. Invaluable reps to get as a true freshman and still redshirt on a team that doesn’t have many times where they can give you them.
This seems like a team we should put 60 on but as was pointed out earlier, we don’t seem to have that killer instinct to bury the opponent. Hawaii was trending that way with 21pts in the 1st quarter but then put up 28 in the remaining 3 quarters with 1 of those td’s coming in the last few minutes. Going with 41-17. Think Nolan will play good but not as well as he did vs Hawaii…not likely to start 13/13 again. Hopefully we get a chance to see some of the younger RBs like Newell and Collins and I’d love to see some of the xfers like Tongue and Dunmore get some playing time.
So you’re saying you like watching Tongue getting play
time with Beavers?
absolutely. hopefully for a foreplay drive.
Agree but I think Smith likes to show good sportsmanship too and not embarrass a team any worse than they will be. Hopefully we can see several players who haven’t or wouldn’t see the field normally.
That’s part of it but pour it on for a half or partway in the 3rd quarter then you show the sportsmanship by playing the 2nd and 3rd group. Also, I don’t think too many people would hold it against him to get the score up there…we’re not Alabama and wins have been few and far between for years.
JS is 10-23. Yeah, he doesn’t like to embarrass other teams. If fact, he’s been great at building our opponents confidence. If we’re good enough to put 50 on Idaho before USC, we should. I don’t think we are… 38-10 Beavs
Beavs defeat Idaho 38-21, in front of 10k or less fans.
Crappy weather and FCS opponent plus student not on campus yet and Covid protocols will make Scott Barnes wish he had left those carboard cutouts from last season in the stands.
All true except Idaho won’t get 21, even with a late game TD………….38-17 good guys.
Only reason I have it so high is Idaho has a terrible defense and our offensive depth is actually pretty good at all positions. I see all three strings scoring.
Would like to see Sio and Schad have big games tomorrow.
We should be getting a big push up front tomorrow, making their QB roll outside the pocket.
42-6 good guys
I’m going 56-10. I think our offense takes another step towards playing more consistently. Also I think our defense shows up for all 4 quarters even with the backups getting significant reps.
42-17 Beav’s
I was going to pick Idaho to try to break the all time down vote record set by Jack back in the day.
Some men just like to watch the world burn
You’re in good company, Ryan Nall calls it 41-14 on Blitz
OT: Whew! UO’s DBs back from suspension…they paid their debt to society…
They were back for tOSU and made some key plays
Beavers parachuted in Idaho by forest service
https://youtu.be/APLz2bTprMA
Here’s a nut crusher…those of us east of the Cascades get to watch the UW game on Dish instead of the Beavers.
A great saying brought back from her time in Japan by my cousin – Fuck the Fucking Fuckers! Pac-12 Network is doing us no favors.
I thought it was supposed to be on Pac12-oregon, regardless of location
It’s on that for bend cable
Got Ukrainian friends?
45-13 Beavs.
