With just two games left, there’s a good argument to have Gulbranson finish the season and gain the valuable experience for next year. If Smith wants to start Nolan, I don’t have a huge issue with that, but if we’re being objective about the situation the reality is (a) he is not the future and (b) you risk Gulbranson transferring and having to start from scratch and (c) he’d be on a short-leash anyway. So even if the coaches feel Nolan gives them the best shot to win this week, it would be short-term thinking to start Nolan. Gulbranson hasn’t been perfect, but he’s shown more upside. He needs to play better on the road, so @Arizona State would be great experience in that regard, and they’re a mediocre team where he could gain experience.
I think the Beavs win out. So 9-3 puts us where?
I had the Beavs at 9-3 in the pre-season and don’t see how we don’t get there. We took a circuitous route, but should get to that destination. Oregon is very beatable at home, and right now we’re playing more as a complete team than they are.
@ASU is usually a tough draw due to weather, but that’s in their favor this week with 70 degrees and sunny. Playing them late in the season is some rare good luck for Da Beavs. This week’s prediction…
Oregon State 31, Arizona State 17.
Firstest bishes.
Go Beavs
Until the injury situation is more clear it’s hard to predict how this team finishes. I’m a bit concerned about ASU because we’re playing backups on the road with a below average QB. Our D will need to carry us but our secondary is beat up. I’ll go 20-17 Beavs but could go either way.
They may be without their starting QB. Should know more today.
UCLA ran all over ASU defense a couple weeks ago. Over 350 yards.
Damn, horrible situation with U Virginia football team. 1 player shot and killed 3 of his teammates and injured 2 others overnight. He was just recently taken into custody.
Just awful
House of sparky write up on the loss in Pullman.
It’s pretty brutal. There’s a reason the Beavs opened as 7 point favorites in Vegas…..
https://www.houseofsparky.com/2022/11/12/23455339/asu-football-sun-devils-clinch-meaningless-end-to-catastrophic-season-with-loss-to-washington-state
Love the injury reports “upper body/lower body,” how about “front body/back body” for a little more specificity?
And the quotes on analytics and criticism by the writer sound very familiar…
I wonder if there are any portal guys to pull from ASU after this disastrous year for them. Most of their talent left before the season I guess.
I’m sure there’s plenty of linemen that would be welcome additions.
Gameday going to Bozeman November 19 for MSU v. UM. MSU is #3, and 9-1. Both teams are putting up points.
https://nbcmontana.com/amp/sports/content/bozeman-to-host-college-gameday-for-first-time
Makes that MSU Beaver game all that more impressive that they absolutely dominated a #3 ranked (and otherwise undefeated) FCS team.
Riley and Andersen led Beaver teams would have lost that game
Agree. They have won 9 straight and just dropped 72 on Cal Poly. Their QB would have likely owned Banker…
How was the game atmosphere? Lots of recruits visiting, correct? Stadium construction looking impressive? Wish it was ready for CW!
I didnt go to the game this week and havent followed up on recreuiting in several weeks
Get that remodel done man, we need the NB recruiting guru back!!!
Meh, I saw MSU play UC Davis this season. Mellott was hurt so Sean Chambers ran/threw all over the place. ESPN night game, fans grumbling about the late start. The play seemed slow. I hadn’t been to a college game for a while and, based upon that experience, with the constant jumbotron ads and MSU snippets and with the teams standing around during ESPN media time-outs, the game seem edincidental.
A lame/transparent attempt to hand a bone to the little guy in the hopes that everyone shuts up about the same 5 teams getting publicity every week.
Its supposedly a great atmosphere (I have a cousin that goes to MSU home games), but yeah, if there were more regular, equitable and creative distribution of the locations, it wouldn’t come across that way. The show is inane anyway by most accounts.
My main point was MSU is undefeated and rolling since losing to the Beavers. For a lower division opponent, they’re at least highly competitive and successful in their division.
So many people watching tv series Yellowstone, perhaps? Montana State has become the latest fashion in universities. Bozeman – now referred to as Bozangeles – has done a decent job of managing the growth – unlike the rest of Montana.
You haven’t been paying attention, this is the second time this year they are going to an FCS school.
They also went to Appalachian St earlier this year.
Appalachian St hasn’t been an FCS school for years. They have been in FBS level since 2014. Play in the Sun Belt Conference
The second FCS school they went to this year was Jackson St.
My point was that it’s not always the big schools. One like App St hosted this year. Kansas got to host too
You consider two small schools being covered in the entire season to be appropriate coverage of college sports?
Yes. How many small schools do they have to go to in your opinion?
As a Montana resident, let me tell you that the “Brawl of the wild” is an intense rivalry. Not as intense as the Civil War, but it’s got good history.
1. Montana lives and breathes college sports. There’s no pro team to serve as a distraction.
2. UM Griz have traditionally dominated this rivalry until Jeff Choate took over for for MSU Bobcats.
3. Bozeman (MSU) is a respected engineering school with a growing student body, and a fan base excited that they have been brought back from the dead (sound familiar)? Bozeman is a cool college town with a growing tech presence.
4. Missoula (UM) is a liberal arts university with a fan base with a sense of entitlement (sound familiar)? To be fair, Missoula is a cool ass college town with loads of great outdoor recreational access. I love going there for hiking and fly fishing.
Spoiled, entitled JT Daniels benched by West Virginia, who beat Oklahoma in their first game without him.
I don’t love the general handling of the QB position by Smith and Lindgren, but not giving into Daniels’s dad’s demands was definitely the right call.
$400k well spent right there.
time to get a refund
What happens when an entitled player is not as promoted and advertised? Was it a 1-season deal only? It will be interesting to see JT Daniels next move.
Lousy ROI
Per PFF, Gulbranson is the second worst QB on the West Coast, behind only the Colorado guy. That includes the mountain west, BYU, etc. Also he’s not close to the pack in score- he’s way behind. All that to say: Nolan should play if he’s ready. Maybe even hobbled Gebbia.
PFF isn’t perfect but it agrees with my eyeball test. Gulbranson might be good someday but he is flat not ready. I never liked Gebbia much but man…this year with this D, healthy boring game manager Gebbia might have steered us to 9-1 or even 10-0 this year. Luck o’ the Beavs.
https://twitter.com/superwestsports/status/1592192185944113157?s=46&t=jZJTxXezKrkuvJAgNseYYA
OSU will have faced 5 of the top 6 on that list after CW…losses to Williams, Rising, & Penix.
Healthy, boring game manager is exactly what the game plan is with Gulbranson. Get out there and don’t fuck the chicken, let the team win the game without you actively losing it for them.
Nolan may have better stats on paper but he’s an active chicken fucking game loser.
Trent Dilfer won a SB that way.
So did Brad Johnson….think he won one with Tampa Bay. Subpar journeyman QB that didn’t get in the defenses way.
I agree but I don’t trust BG in that role. Nolan was a turnover machine vs USC and Utah was looking the same, but he has a larger body of work of being servicable than BG in my opinion.
Again if Gebbia was healthy I’d happily take him. He seems like the optimal game manager.
If Lindgren was calling plays like he is now with BG. Nolan is the better option. The 1 TD cal scored was because of him. If cal was better that’s the kond of dumb shit that loses a game.
GB hasn’t flashed any sign that he has a high ceiling. Certainly has the physical talents. How many wow throws has he had this year? That weren’t because of spectacular catches by the WR.
Smith will have to be very active in the QB transfer market this year.
He had a wow throw to Treshaun in the last game that didnt happen because of an easy drop. Cuts both ways
Some interesting measures of the two from PFF: ‘turnover worthy plays’ and ‘big time throws.’
Gulbranson:
TWP 3% (middle of the pack nationally)
BTT 2.6% (bottom quartile nationally)
Nolan 2022:
TWP 5.3% (bottom quartile nationally)
BTT 6.6% (top quartile nationally)
Nolan 2021:
TWP 2.3% (top quartile nationally)
BTT 5% (middle of the pack nationally)
So Nolan has a higher ceiling in terms of the ability to make impact plays, but he went from being a solid game manager last year to a TO machine this year. Gulbranson has limited mistakes (not as well as 2021 Nolan), but hasn’t made impact plays.
middle of the pack nationally
bottom quartile nationally
IE Game manager
bottom quartile nationally
top quartile nationally
IE Gunslinger
With a stout defense and solid running game, do you need a gunslinger? It’s boring. But it’s ok to have a boring W over the boom or bust L. And next year maybe we have a better boring guy.
OSU will have to throw the ball downfield to beat Hole. That’s the real weakness of that team.
If they do that, they win. If they don’t, they lose.
If that’s the key then we have no chance
Start Colletto at QB!
No, we do. We’ve got the speed at the receiver position to force Hole to drop the safeties. BG just needs to connect on a few deep shots
Certain Wr’s need to catch the ball is the bigger issue.
This year will be slightly different for the transfer portal, little less craziness
https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/34967085/college-football-new-transfer-portal-windows-explained
Players can elect to go into the portal in the windows that are now set. They can transfer at any point after they enter, doesn’t have to be in the window. Some exceptions will be made as to who can enter outside the windows.
The exceptions would be based on how high profile the player is and which top 25 team is getting that player…
Probably pretty accurate
Just do what Justin Fields did and claim somebody at your school used a racial epithet towards you. Impossible to prove or disprove, so they just let him play at Ohio State immediately rather than sit out.
Either that or threaten to sue the school for not allowing you to fully realize your NIL potential. There has to be a ton of potential for a lawsuit in that area
Nolan is done for the year
Source?
He’s preparing for the draft with Musgrave.
OT: a summary of how bad UO’ defense is so far thus year. Maybe they should have hired a HC with a background in defense?!?

Turns out he wasn’t the master kind of Georgia’s defense. Who knew!
Adley finishes second in ROY voting. He did get a first place vote. Kwan finished third.
This has to help with recruiting. Sells a very viable path to the MLB.
Pickem games are up. Heads up, Thursday game included this week.
Just a few weeks left to snatch the lead and the crown again.
Injury updates………….a lot of non answer answers.
Running back Deshaun Fenwick didn’t dress for the game. “We felt like a weekend off gives him the potential to return. We’ll see how it looks the end of this week.”
Outside linebacker John McCartan, like Fenwick, was in street clothes vs. the Bears. “Was close to being able to play. We’re optimistic that this weekend he’ll be back.”
On running back Jam Griffin: “We’ll see how he looks toward the end of the week. Not ready to call him out yet.” Linebacker Jack Colletto, who had a left hamstring injury, is similar to Griffin.
On right tackle Taliese Fuaga and left guard Heneli Bloomfield: “Lower extremity kind of injury, but not season ending. We’ll see how they look at the end of the week.”
On Austin: “He’s been battling for a couple weeks. That guy is tough. It flared up on him during the game. We’ll see. Jaydon Grant is in the same boat.”
And receiver Jesiah Irish: “Feel confident he’ll be back.”
https://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/2022/11/oregon-state-injury-situation-heading-into-arizona-state-remains-cloudy-but-jonathan-smith-sees-sunshine.html
Yeah, i expected JS to be vague all week…
he’s vague all weeks
OT: in addition to the students at U Virginia, 4 students found dead at University of Idaho, Moscow ID. Wow. What a terrible weekend.
That UVA thing looks to be a former player targeting current players?
Wtf….so tragic
Bowl update, OSU sent out an email for bowl tickets request today. Only Rose Bowl is out. Everything else is still in play.
Win at ASU – Locks Beavs into at least the #5 spot which means the Sun Bowl.
Win out – Beavs move into the 3/4 slot depending on other games.
Split games – Sun Bowl for sure
Lose out – could be relegated to the ServPro First Responder Bowl or Armed Forces Bowl. These are options in the bowl ticket request.
Beavs other best chance to move up in bowls is for a team to qualify for the CFP. Then the Beavs would be off to Vegas or San Diego instead of dreaded El Paso. My guess is USC has the best shot if they win out
“Beavs other best chance to move up in bowls is for a team to qualify for the CFP. Then the Beavs would be off to Vegas or San Diego instead of dreaded El Paso”
Not 100% accurate. I covered this in the last thread. Wilner also covered this. Vegas and Holiday bowls can go down in the Pac-12 standings as long as the team they pick is within one game of the highest remaining team left in the conference standings. Sun and LA bowls must take the highest remaining team in the conference standings.
One caveat I am unsure of. Is there a repeat clause? LA certainly doesn’t want OSU again. Especially If Boise St wins the MWC since they already played each other in week 1. El Paso doesn’t want WSU since they played in that bowl last year.
USC getting to the CFP could benefit the Beavs. Or it may not matter. If the Beavs are tied with UW, UCLA or UO? I don’t think that’s a dog and pony show we’re going to win.
It’s going to be tough to get a better bowl than the Sun. It’s not out of the realm of possibility, but it’s unlikely. Yes Hell Paso sucks. The lone benefit is the extra practice.
Unless something completely unexpected happens? Like Colorado actually beating someone not named Cal? Or the Beavs shit the bed and lose these last 2 games? It’s probably going to be Hell Paso.
Also, even if USC does not make the CFP it is still a possibility that a 2nd Pac-12 team makes a NY 6 bowl game. But my point still remains. Dog and pony show that it’s unlikely OSU wins.
I’d love for OSU to go to the Holiday bowl this year. I just don’t see them picking us over one of the aforementioned teams.
I think the most likely scenario puts two PAC-12 teams in a NY6 bowl:
Utah wins out
USC wins out
USC beats Utah in PAC championship
Both would finish in the top 10, USC would go to the Rose Bowl or CFP, and Utah would go to a NY6 bowl.
The idea of a 3 loss Utah staying in the top 10 seems like a stretch. Maybe if Utah tops USC in the Pac12 title game they could both stay top 10
If they both reach the pac12 title game, I just don’t see the loser being in the top 10.
The election is not over! Down to the final four in the Paul Horning award–Colletto in the lead with 46%. vote early and often…once a day until 12/4.

Hopefully Arizona isn’t doing the counting! We won’t find out the winner until next March.
For those of you who have seen Aiden Chiles play, any chance he competes for playing time as a true freshman?
Film shows a guy with good tools, but he doesn’t go through progressions at all. He takes off if the primary isn’t open. That tells me he’s going to take a bit to figure things out, unless Lindgren changes his idea of the position.
I don’t know about as a true freshman. He got all the physical tools to compete so it’s all about the mental makeup. If he chooses to graduate early and come for spring ball, he’d have a chance.
I can see him as the short yardage QB as a frosh. Looks fairly similar to the Boise St QB who came in a ran all over the defense.
I think he’s committed to showing up for early enrollment in January and participting in spring ball.
If he’s a legitimate 4*, I’d suggest giving him some specific, targeted reps and watching his RS status next season.
I’ll look forward to Angry’s review and rating of him, but I’m hopeful that he might finally be that FR QB that performs for the Beavers. Other schools have been able to get early, efficient performance out of young QBs. Maybe its time for the Beavers given the quality of the OLine and the RB depth and ability to emphasize the run game. Martinez should be a beast the next two seasons.
Beavs back into the CFP rankings at #23
Wait til you see the pre civil war game ‘bump’
Might get into the top 20 with a win this week
I’d take it
In my opinion, Beavs won’t win Civil War unless they can make some plays downfield in the passing game. Oregon’s run defense 17th in the nation in rushing yards allowed at 108.2 per gsme. Beavs are 15th at 107.1 by the way. Passing defense? Oregon is a staggering 127th at 289.7 yards/game.
The ultra game manager, conservative, Ben Gulbranson game plan is simply not going to be good enough in that game. I think Angry makes some good points about the upside to having BG finish the season, but Chance is without question the better downfield thrower. I’ve seen enough games from both of these guys now to know that’s the case (at least at this current moment, BG has room to grow). And the same point I keep making, the playbook has a very defined ceiling with BG running the show. They are not allowing him the same downfield chances as Nolan was getting in the first 4 games. I don’t really see why the conservative Gulbranson game plan suddenly gets changed for the Civil War. The coaching staff clearly doesn’t trust him enough to make those big time throws (at least as often as they might want their offense to be attempting them).
If Chance is healthy, I’d play him. A 10 win season is on the table. In terms of short term aspirations, that is absolutely worth the risk of sitting Gulbranson. If you have a chance to grab only the 2nd 10 win season in program history, you go do it. Didn’t get any updates on him during the presser this week. The buzz seems to be it’ll be Gulbranson again. One of the oddest injury situations I can ever remember in this program.
The rest of the injuries are concerning too but I would lean towards the side of being cautious this week. Play more backups and trust in your depth to get a win against an inferior opponent. Playing some of these guys and risking aggregating the injury with the biggest game of the season on deck doesn’t seem worth it to me.
Pfffft. Ain’t buyin. Oregon’s defense has been bad. Really bad.
Hell, UCLA’s lead RB ran for over 150 on just 20 carries and averaged almost 8 yards per carry. Of course that is a different offense and I understand that.
If this game was in Eugene and they had the home crowd behind them? I’d agree with you. But it’s not.
There’s one factor you’re omitting. This defense has not given up more than 17 points in ANY game at home this season. The D will keep them in the game. The offense just can’t fuck it up.
Beat ASSU first
Agree. The whole “downfield passing is a must” argument is only if you want to get in a track meet with them because your defense is as bad as theirs. The Beavers secondary will be the best they’ve faced all year (assuming health of course).
OSU v. USC was primarily Bray v. Riley. Bray clearly won, but Nolan did not. It will be like that again. Individual Duck players will have to make plays on the ball for INTs, which is not impossible given some of their individual athletes, but the Beavers don’t need to throw a bunch of deep passes to win. Take care of the ball and convert red zone opportunities.
Hole has the front 7 advantage against the run, we have the speed at WR to burn them.
It’s simple. Throw the ball deep. It worked for Washington.
Will they give BG the chance to throw it deep? Can he connect?
Lindsay, Irish, Gould… three guys who can run under a 4.4. Let ‘em loose and see how far BG can throw
Yeah, let’s hope they’re not looking past this weekend, that would be a tragedy
What have you seen from Chance to make you think he can throw the ball downfield accurately? He had a couple of good throws in the first half against Boise State where he had good trajectory. Since then he’s back to overthrowing guys with flat passes. I don’t know who gives you the better chance to win but I don’t think the long ball is where Chance shines.
Isn’t Chance out for the season?
If Harrison doesn’t drop 3 sure touchdowns on the season they both look much better throwing downfield…
I’ll trust BG in spite of the wind debacle at UW and start him the rest of the way. He is now 5-1 as a starter, and has faced PAC12 defenses in all of those starts.
I expect that the strategy is to keep a few plays back going into the Civil War that go against the game manager trend for BG. JS and Lindgren will have some plays ready to test Duck secondary discipline.
Nix will be good not great, and likely gives at least one turnover. Ducks running backs rely on yards after contact and aren’t very big. If Beavs are sound tackling in space and stay as steady as they have all year, it could be a repeat of the USC game strategy but I think Beavs win by at least a touchdown even with the game manager version. Ducks have lost to the tougher teams on their schedule with the exception of UCLA. Also WSU had them on the ropes and should have won that game. Ducks have been overrated for most of the year.
Beat ASU, then get the Ducks and go to a really nice bowl game. This could have been that special year, but the Beavs needed a top half of the conference qb to do it and Nolan’s 2 game meltdown pretty much cost Beavs any shot at the Rose Bowl…
JS and crew must work the transfer portal and see if they can find some lightning in a bottle for next year.
Go Beavs.
+100
Great analysis all around but what you Gulbranson apologists love to conveniently forget is that he was terrible in the Utah game when he came in. Granted, his first drive he was in a 21-7 hole but that game was still very much winnable and he was an abomination in the redzone. The 1st and goal INT when it was still 28-16 was just as egregious as some of the Nolan INTs. You have to give him at least a tiny bit of blame for the Utah loss even though yes, the 21-7 deficit is a tough ask.
Are you Nolan’s mom or what?
The difference in your play by play analysis, Nolan was a two year starter and shit the bed, and you want to bitch about a dude that just came off the bench. Get real. And tell your kid, hope he’s feeling better.
Washington and USC has efficient offenses like Oregon. Held both to season lows in points scored. Beavs have allowed 17, 10, 9, 10 points last 4 games in Corvallis. How much do we need to score against Oregon to beat them? Everything is based on beating them with us scoring but maybe Oregon should be thinking we need to score 24+ to beat the Beavs but they haven’t allowed that much at home all season.
Haven’t held the Ducks to less than 24 since 2004.
I’m gonna guess 17 if Thompson starts
“He looked good. He’s been one of my favorites on this team. Talk about selfless. He’s healthy and he’s thrown it as good as I’ve seen him around here,” OSU coach Jonathan Smith said. “It was a minimal amount of time, but he executed and threw a couple balls in the right spot. He’s totally ready to go. If we need him, he’s ready.”
https://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/2022/11/oregon-state-football-tristan-gebbia-gets-a-chance-trent-bray-candidate-for-national-assistant-of-the-year.html
That’s good to see. I also notice “If we need him…” which suggests he’s staying second string?
Would be cool if Bray won that award. Its certainly been a meaningful turnaround in play. Maybe the notoriety would help recruit a few DTs…
And someone thought I was stupid when I said that it wouldn’t surprise me if Bray got HC looks in the future, if not this off-season. If I’m not mistake we STILL have more INTs than TD’s given up through the air. Lot of programs would love to have that.
I don’t know about desirable HC looks but I can see big $$ programs trying to poach him at DC.
This year’s Alex Grinch
” If I’m not mistake we STILL have more INTs than TD’s given up through the air. ”
That is tremendous in this day of offenses. That should be taken up by the graphics department, particularly if it holds true at season’s end.
b-ball equals win total from last year last night.
Lack of outside shooting is going to kill us when the schedule gets harder, though.
I think we’ll go undefeated this year
Anyone know anything about Trent Ferguson o lineman from Salem? Ducks offered him. Good size kid.
This would make the Civil War interesting.

Can’t name drop but doctor friend in Eugene. Only positive news is I think he comes back next year because I of it.
Is that referring to Nix?
Yes. Utah’s coach was asked if they are preparing as if Nix will start this coming weekend.
He was rattled on that play. The Husky safety came in low as Nix attempted a qb draw/zone read. Took a direct shot to his kneecap by helmet contact and Nix looked at the Husky like he just stole his Christmas presents in real time. Husky got up and made eye contact but stepped past him without much awareness. Watching Nix last pass that fell about 10 yards short, after a quick scramble, a knee injury would make sense. Hope he gets better for their bowl game but don’t mind facing their untested freshman backup…
I doubt they win this weekend if he doesn’t play. Duck fans won’t want to go to Reser if Nix isn’t playing.
If he’s not 100% they still won’t beat Utah. You think the Utes don’t know he’s hurting? Guaranteed if Nix plays, a physical team like Utah will hurt him even worse.
Calling it now. Utah wins in Eugene. It doesn’t matter if Nix plays or not.
Well, OSU is w/out it’s starting QB as well, so….
Kris Hutson said to the media today “Obviously Bo is down, so it’s next man up” referring to Ty Thompson against Utah this week.
One thing I hate about having the Civil War as game 12 every year is one or both teams usually have major injury issues in the game. Would much rather see this game at mid-season.
https://youtu.be/yKcBGZ_Wy84
Not bright enough to keep ANYTHING on the DL.
A UO edumacation. Degrees not worth the paper they’re printed on anymore.
In his defense though……
When you’ve already been caught cheating red handed and the NCAA does nothing? Well, why hide it? It’s unnecessary. They don’t give a fuck.
Tinkle? Do we like him again or not? Asking for a friend…
Fools gold…don’t fall for it.
You need to hate him in every game, it worked two years ago…
He sucks, the players are all trash won’t win another game.
He’s garbage. Seems new assistants might be helping. Poor also seems to be above average PG which also helps. Outside shooting is going to keep this team from winning P12 games. I’d still put o/u on total wins at 8.5.
*Pope not poor
“It’s a young team but they are willing to be coached.”
That is a paradox when the coach is Tinkle. The follow up question should be “ok but for how long?”
I watched the last 10 minutes of last night’s game. I thought this team played faster and spent less time passing the ball around the perimeter? Tinkle is Banker with more arm action.
Duck fans are insufferable. Living near Eugene, I’ve been hearing every excuse for losing to UW – except giving UW credit for having a better passing game, pass rush, QB and coach. If the Huskies had not missed about 20 tackles, the game wouldn’t have even been as close as it was. They also think the Nix injury was a dirty hit. If you watch that play, Nix went low and head-first into the defender who did a great job of dropping almost to the ground in order to make the tackle and avoid a helmet to helmet. Not saying Nix was at fault, it was just a football play.
At least you don’t live in the Seattle area like me. UW fans have lost it. Never seen so many fat guys with UW hats
America needs a diet
Absolutely – there is nothing worse than a rabid dawg fan. After last weekend’s win – and I have no love for the ducks – it is nuts in Seattle. Whether it is talk that Penix should be in the Heisman hunt, the dawgs should be in the PAC 12 championship and how likely will it be that DeBoer is the PAC 12 coach of the year; I’ve heard it all.
All I can say is that 2 field goals on a Friday night in Seattle would have put an end to this nonsense…..
Unless winsipedia is incorrect….,and honestly I don’t remember.
I do remember going into games at ASU being confident. And winding up disappointed.
Beavs haven’t won in Tempe since 2009. And that’s the only time in the modern era (since 1997). It’s been a house of horrors.
Despite all of that Vegas has the Beavs as a touchdown road favorite. This is the definition of a TRAP game.
Get er done boys. Go you Beavs.
The media guide is the best place to look for historical info. Beavs are 4-20 at ASU.
https://osubeavers.com/documents/2021/12/27/Complete_Series_Records_DEC_2021.pdf
Man that’s fucking brutal to look at. Here we are almost 25 years after breaking the streak of 28 straight losing seasons and the only team OSU has a winning record against in the conference is Utah. And that one is in jeopardy.
And yes, a 28-17 win in 2009 was the last time the Beavs won in Tempe

Various sites picking OSU @ ASU. Some interesting tidbits –
“The Arizona State Sun Devils have moments where they can compete and score the ball, but it’s not consistent, and they haven’t looked good at home this year. The Oregon State Beavers are far and away the more balanced team, with a defense that’s 28th in total defense and 36th in scoring defense. Oregon State is simply the more trustworthy side overall.”
“Heading into the game, the Sun Devils will hope for some improved play from their defense, as they are currently 105th at 30.8 points per game allowed.”
“Arizona State has surrendered a total of 1,755 rushing yards (175.5 yards/game) in addition to 23 touchdowns on the ground on the season.”

Another article calls attention to motivation:
“But with ASU no longer bowl eligible with a 3-7 record (2-5 in conference), what exactly is there left to play for?
“I can make that very simple. You got two games. You play one for the seniors and play one for the state,” defensive coordinator Donnie Henderson said Monday. “And our seniors deserve that, they deserve to go out in those two games as winners — winning as your last home game and then win as the state.
…
The Sun Devils are also 14-5 on senior day since 2003, which includes going 8-2 over the last decade and 4-1 in the last five years.
And when it comes to the two opponents ASU will be facing, it will have a pair of long winning streaks to uphold.
The first will be when Oregon State comes to Tempe to play at Sun Devil Stadium, a place where the Beavers have only won once since 1969. In fact, ASU is 19-1 at home against OSU in their last 20 meetings, with Oregon State’s only road win coming in 2009.”

OSU is the simply the better team and should win with ASU in disarray. Hopefully Martinez has a career night, then gets to rest in the 4th, and Newell gets a number of carries to prep him for the CW if needed. It should be time for the program to end another losing streak on someone else’s field.
I also want to see Lowell get more snaps. W/o Musgrave he seems like the guy to look for on 3rd down
RE the CW and QBs, this is getting interesting. OSU has a history of faring poorly against young, talented QBs, and the Ducks could rally around their young QB if Nix can’t go. The difference is Bray – his defense is so much better than defenses of the past, including coverage and open field tackling. Still, there’s the third at forever TD @ UW that looked a lot like the Beaver defenses of old. My point is Thompson’s presence doesn’t necessarily guarantee a loss, especially if he’s mobile.
Also I don’t think Nix is/was guaranteed success at Reser. The guy struggled in the SEC, and he’s had a career year in PAC play, but in PAC play I don’t think he’s faced a D as good as the Beavers(?). His presence doesn’t guarantee a Duck win, in fact I could see him struggling because the Beavers D is so solid at home.
Was down in Anaheim last weekend and we had a shuttle driver named Antonio Walton. His son, Antonio Walton Jr. supposedly has 23 offers as a sophomore. Interesting conversation about recruiting and NIL. I didn’t know you can’t get any NIL money until you are 16 and according to him, you get the money on a visa card. A teammate of his son committed to Cal and got 500k. Bought a Ford Raptor the next day. His son is pretty fast and won some race at the Eugene event. His son said he wants to go to Oregon because of the cool uniforms but has recently been going to USC and UCLA games pretty much every weekend. Maybe Beavs should come up with 50 uniform combinations and see if recruiting improves.
“A teammate of his son committed to Cal and got 500k. Bought a Ford Raptor the next day. .” Way to invest…hope DamNation is providing financial literacy education to OSU NIL students…
I don’t believe the $500k to go to Cal part, someone’s full of shit (not you krol).
Wow… it pays to be young.
A 16 y/o with a Raptor….smh….
“he wants to go to Oregon because of the cool uniforms” – he wants to dress up like a lemon cough drop?
Yeah, I was wearing a Beaver sweatshirt. It was a long drive so we changed the subject.
They’re football costumes.
‘Oregon, cool uniforms’ – Antonio Walton Jr. wants to dress up like a lemon cough drop?
Oh and one other highlight from the conversation was him telling me that Steve Smith (receiver that went Utah) was on the team with TJ and Chad as receivers for the fiesta bowl team. I about bet him the shuttle ride that he was wrong.
Boise State & Fresno State atop MWC…providing some non-conference schedule value for the Beavers.

Any rumors about what time the Civil War will be?
My understanding is that it depends on who wins/loses this weekend as to who gets the ‘better’ time slots next week. Husky fans were already complaining of having to travel across the pass to Pullman to probably play in a ‘later’ game. I guess the PAC 12 has 6 days to let the teams know when/what time they will be playing at. I think the Beaver – Duck game takes precedent over the Cougar – Husky game and that is why the dawg fans are bitching already.
Either 1:30 or 7:30 from I had read.
So is twitter all done? Keep seeing reports that Elon gave the remaining staff a stay or go take 3 months severance ultimatum(after already firing about 50% of the staff) and about 75% of those remaining chose to go.
So he has told everybody to not report till the 21st.
That didnt take long
You realize how many kids with coding degrees are chomping at the bit to get decent paying jobs? He’ll replace them pretty quickly. Middle and upper management depends on what he’s paying first.
So replace >50% of your senior engineers with people fresh out of school. Sounds like it will be even more of a shit show.
There are a lot of experienced people out there waiting… and everyone has to start somewhere, right?
Sounds like none of them showed up for work anyway.
There’s no shortage of senior software engineers in the US lol
Right, but why work for an egomaniac that drops ultimatums on 12 hours notice and expects you to act like you need him? I mean I guess if you feel you have no worth, great gig
Maybe he’ll hire a couple American engineers and not have 99.9% H1B visa holders from India. Oh the horror!
Lolol…Aside from being ridiculously hyperbolic, you missed the fact that the people most likely to stay with a 12 hour ultimatum, are the ‘scary foreigners’ who have fewer options…thus exacerbating the ratio you fear.
Fuck Musk. The biggest risk is he over “influences” free speech with too many wealthy sycophants kissing his ass.
Twitter can die.
And STAY off my lawn!
Hopefully it’s dead. It’s the worst thing to happen to the internet.
Well, the second worst after angrybeavs LOL….
This is a weird one for me, I can’t stand Musk, Twitter, or the entitled self-important brats who did/do work there.
Let me buy you a beer. Agree 100%
Ducks faking injury is apparently a thing. Sounds about right.
“It was a part of the game plan,” Hutson said on Wednesday. “It wasn’t nothing too special. But I’m alright, though.”
Fucking weak
Dam Right from Niner. Krol gets credit for posting mama Machado’s crystal ball a bit ago: https://247sports.com/Player/Abraham-Johnson-46135145/
Anyone know anything about this kid? Nice to get some beef on the D-Line, and 6’3″ 280 is good size for a prep kid. Offer sheet is a bit lacking, though.
No offer from Utah????
Yeah, that is noteworthy. Unimpressive offer list.
BUT: the staff apparently identified him last summer.
Pretty good senior year, curious about the competition level:
“His regular season stats this year include: 80 total tackles (46 solo), 26 TFLs (16 Solo), 36 QB Hurries, 69 Pancakes.”
WEEK 12 PHIL STEELE REPORT
Oregon State trails the series 15-30-1. Visitor is just 3-9 SU but 7-5 ATS. Beavers have won 2 of the last 3 by outright upset. Last time here (‘18) the Beavers (+21’) would allow 396 rushing yards and 4 TDs in a 52-24 loss. Sun Devils have won 4 of their last 5 home finales (2-3 ATS). Last year Arizona State (-3) was able to cut the lead to 17-10 after trailing at halftime 17-0 but lost 24-10. Arizona State opened 1-2 SU and fired Herm Edwards and went 2-4 SU and 3-3 ATS in the first 6 games under interim HC Shaun Aguano with the highlight being a home upset of Washington. Last week they were at Washington State and It was a chilly and foggy Pullman and Washington State led 28-0 ay halftime with a 291-69 yd edge. Arizona State’s #1 tackler Kyle Soelle missed the game. Arizona State drove 52/4 for a TD in the 3Q, then drove 71/15 but was stopped on downs at the 7 trailing 28-12. Washington State was stopped on downs at the 37. Arizona State drove 63/5 for a TD with :57 left for a 28-18 final Washington State only had a 356-333 yd edge. Oregon State has been a perfect 10-1 SU and 11-0 ATS the last two years at home but is 3-6 ATS on the road in that span. Last week the Beavers were at home vs California and and Jayden Ott who was leading P12 frosh with 725 yds was held to 8-20. Oregon State opened with 65/10 and 31/6 (after int) TD’s and after their first two drives led 14-0. Oregon State got a 55 yd PR TD to make the score 21-0. California had a 33 yd FR TD for a 21-7 halftime score with Oregon State having a 9-2 FD edge. Oregon State’s 4 possessions in the 2H were a FG, 70/7 drive, 65/11 TD drive and then they ran out the last 4:49 in a 38-10 home win with a 362-156 yd edge. Oregon State is +47 ypg in P12 play and Arizona State is -55 ypg. The home team has won 15 of last 19 SU and is 11-8 ATS. Jonathan Smith is 7-18 SU on the road and Arizona State is 18-7 SU at home the last 5 years. I like the underdog as Oregon State is +125 ypg at home and -23 ypg on the road and 0-3 ATS on the Pac-12 road and should be 0-3 SU, but they had a miracle comeback to beat a weak Stanford team 28-27 trailing by 14 in the 4Q with a 56 yd TD pass with :13 left.

That guy is such a fraud. He favors OSU in 6/9 categories and still projects ASU win. He even favors ASU coaching staff which is in total disarray. The interim coach was coaching high school 3 years ago in Chandler AZ.
Please stop posting the phony, it only mocks real knowledge of matchups and teams.
Meh, it’s fine, interesting to see what ‘disinterested third parties’ think. Funny to read this however “they had a miracle comeback to beat a weak Stanford team 28-27 trailing by 14 in the 4Q with a 56 yd TD pass with :13 left” no mention of the last second usc or uw wins conveniemtly. hahaha
Hopeful the beavs are taking asu seriously, let the neigh sayers be fodder to fuel their success.
Neigh sayers? Is Mr Ed making predictions on the game?
I will point out he’s only missed on two of Oregon State’s predictions this year: Fresno State and Stanford. Every other result as far as team winning he’s gotten correct. And he’s right: Oregon State has yet to play a complete road game. That needs to change.
I like reading Phil’s report, agree or disagree. Its provides content, and dialogue.
Keys to the game –
Stick with the identity of the team, run the ball, play tough defense. This could easily turn into a Stanford type game if the Beavs don’t jump out early.
Weather will be pretty much perfect for the game. Low 70s.
Injuries are the biggest concern, can’t afford much more and need at least a couple to return for the game.
RB depth should be ok if Fenwick and Griffin don’t play. Lowe and Newell should be able to fill the gap.
I doubt GB will let more than a couple loose, with QB depth very thin, they’ll protect him as much as they can.
ASU’s offense has been going through one player the last two games, Valladay. Beavs took a hard look at him in the transfer portal last offseason. He led the team in rushes and receptions in the last two. Contain him and the game won’t be close.
ASU is a similar opponent to the other teams in the bottom of the standings, has enough talent to win a close one but if they fall behind late, they don’t have it in them to mount a game winning drive against a better opponent.
Beavs should be motivated enough, they know they have a chance to make this a very good season. JS leadership has shown they haven’t looked ahead this year.
One other thing that should be pointed out this year is the addition of Coach Perkins with Adams to the secondary,
How much has that helped DB play?
It looks like a lot because the play and tackling of the CBs this year has been head and shoulders above any recent year.
Don’t see many whiffs on tackles by the CBs and more really hard hits.
Now regarded as one of the best secondary groups in the conference, if not the nation
Cooper has come in and made an immediate impact as a JC.
Austin went from a huge liability to maybe an all conference pick.
Pass rush went multiple games without any sacks and the secondary didn’t collapse.
They have 5.5 sacks of the 14 for the whole team
Really like idea of next year having Cooper and Julian on the field at the same time…
Coaching edge to ASU is just bizarre.
Phil Steele read Angry’s comments about going for it on 4th down
lol
COTT
And if I recall correctly he gave the coaching edge to OSU vs USC. Seemed strange since Lincoln Riley is supposed to be the new hotness.
It seems based on overall coaching record with the team and/or winning/losing seasons. Smith is now .500 if you take away 2-10 from 2018 (thanks Anderpants!)
Colletto out this weekend.
This gives us the element of surprise. Everyone expects him in certain situations at this point. He’s definitely not the only guy that can run the Wildcat.
Wasn’t Newell a HS QB or am I thinking of someone else?
Dunmore and Lindsey are both 1 for 1 this season, just sayin’
I think that was Madison the RB that transferred.
Hope Cal was not his last game as a Beaver…
Smith said none of the injuries from the Cal game were season ending. But then again how often has he strung us along.
When you don’t have to give injury reports, you don’t. Why give opponents info they want?
Not going to be the Oregon WR and spill the beans
He said he didn’t think they would be. Said they’re waiting for more info on some of them.
Saw Wayne Tinkle yesterday at the corner of 15th and Hwy 20/34. Had I noticed quicker I’d have thrown something out the window at him and called him a bum.
That’s no way to treat an defeated coach!
I’m kidding of course.
Should’ve run his ass over. Your Contract has been voided!
Haha! The only problem with that is it might total your car. Hitting him is like hitting half a moose. I saw him walking by once, he’s a big dude.
I don’t think he’d be more than a speed
Bump for a Volvo and 53’ trailer.
Lol *undefeated
Looking for a tailgate tomorrow
Sir, you realize you are in an “AngryBeavs” website?
Well if you fly to Minneapolis, you’re welcome to join ours. It should be a balmy-1 with wind chill. USC and UCLA are going to love the B1G LOL. Playing for the pig so a pork centric menu. We’ll be decked out like Ice Station Zebra. Go Beav’s…..and who hates Iowa!
