I’m sticking with Oregon State 31, Arizona State 17. There’s a guy in the prior thread looking for a tailgate – if any other Beavs will be down in AZ hook him up.
Go Beavs!
I’m sticking with Oregon State 31, Arizona State 17. There’s a guy in the prior thread looking for a tailgate – if any other Beavs will be down in AZ hook him up.
Go Beavs!
Go Beavers?
All other hereafter are #2 or lower!
Either that or less interested in fame among the group?
Aidan Chiles leads a three-score comeback to take his team to the section title game. 5 total TD’s. I like a winner.
JT Daniels getting benched today in favor of a Sophomore for WVU. Guess the Beavs really wouldnt have been better off had he come here.
His dad must be pissed
His dad seems like a mega douche. I remember posting a video of him on AB last Spring but can’t find the link.
JT’s dad didnt like this
Was it ever about the kid having success, or just the money? Easy answer…Pissed, all the way to the bank, i guess.
Dude has the worst mustache with a three stooges haircut. Never thought he was a leader even at USC.
Beavs NIL money is better not spent on such guys.
He started at usc when he should have been a hs senior. Tough situation and maybe some regrets.
Run the damn ball and don’t turn it over. Should be enough to get out of Tempe with a W. 24-17 Beavs.
Beavs 31 ASU 20
Go Beavs
Per Nick daschel: Oregon State injury update. Just talked to Jonathan Smith.
OUT: S Jaydon Grant, CB Alex Austin, LB Jack Colletto, RB Deshaun Fenwick, WR Anthony Gould, OT Tyler Morano
WILL PLAY: RT Taliese Fuaga, WR Jesiah Irish, OLB John McCartan, RB Jam Griffin
AVAILABLE: Heneli Bloomfield
#8: That is our Jam.
Hopefully fully healthy, if so he should have a couple runs of 20+ yards….
Secondary injuries are going to hurt
Colletto dressed, per radiio. Doesn’t mean he’ll play, just making an appearance for the MILF’s?
Seriiously, good to have McCartan back and Fuaga too. Hope no one aggravates injuries.
The “Brawl of the Wild” in Bozeman reminds me how lame it is that the Civil War is being “renamed” and they still haven’t come up with a name. Subcommittees must still be engaging with focus groups…”Does this alternative adequately address your sensitivity criteria?”
How about the “fuck Dennis Dixon and the rest of the bitch Californians, it’s the fucking Civil War and always will be” football game?
No shit. Grow some balls and call it what it was and will always be!
Reporting live from Arizona. Go Beavs.
Much of a crowd?
Impressive stadium? Didn’t they recently remodel?
Stadium is nice. There is barely anyone in the stadium. Good Beav turnout.
You live in AZ or travel for this game?
Snowbird life
Great, we have an ex-ASU QB announcing today
I like this attempt to get gulbranson passing more. Need that to click just a bit better and especially on the road. Bummer Gould is out.
Love Martinez’ game. You guys all finally on board he’s the best back?
How many times do you want a pat on the back angry? Last time from me. Good call. Go beavs.
Fair. Maybe angry wants a pat on the ass instead?
Who argued? He was clearly going to be good. He was the top HS player in the Dallas area.
A lot of people here.
Name them
Jam Griffin is no slouch either. Honestly I’d take either one. Having a 1A and 1B isn’t a bad problem to have.
Until that sweet sweet nil money comes wafting by…
Our new defensive coordinator is Ben Bray. Isn’t he up for a national award???
Love how they talked up Cav without even mentioning his time in Corvallis.
Ben Bray is the ASU center
Is that Johnson on ASU Chad Johnson’s kid?
Yup
https://thesundevils.com/sports/football/roster/chad-johnson-jr-/13076
After last year’s game, he was chatting up JS on the field.
Not a bad first quarter. Good start for a road game. ASSU missing the FG was a bonus.
More of the same please. I’ll take a ho hum 20-10 win any day.
It’s amazing seeing how much more confidence Martinez has now compared to the first few games. Makes a huge difference.
That’s a crappy throw on the run. Not that hard of a pass running to your right…
Bolden with an absurd one handed catch out of bounds.
Then BG misses an open Martinez…fuck.
And Hayes true to form…
The way of the beaver…..making it as difficult as possible on themselves. Since forever.
Still early though. Still have the lead
Hayes is so bad.
Two people think Hayes is good. That’s scary.
But his mother still loves him…
Are we sure..
Martinez kept that play alive, too bad BG wasn’t able to hit him with the pass.
Important to jump on the devils to kill their motivation, so far not happening.
Have to make the plays that are there: the pass to Martinez, the FG….
Can’t do this shit in the CW…
SACK, finally the D comes to play.
Really explosive sack my Mascarena…
had him ranked high.
BIG JIM, in his best Capt Obvious imatation says this drive is important for the Beavs.
Until the lead is 3 (maybe 2) scores, the devils will keep believing their O can keep a W within reach.
The passing game was really nice on the first drive and non existent again since. Strange how gulbranson can’t string together success. Not sure what to make of it.
Bray can’t be happy with the 3rd down performance today.
Always terrible to give up points in the last few minutes of the half, can’t have that here.
There you are! Mo favors the devils now.
Beavs get second half kick, they need to wake up on O.
Let’s see some 2 min O to end the half.
Aside from the opening drive this game is terrible. Giving ASU way too much hope and confidence.
Beavs in a haze since the opening drive. Thought they could just show up.
That changed quickly, nice 2 min drive in the wind.
I just needed to bitch. Lol
Maybe gulbranson needs tempo. He’s way better on both tempo drives. I’d be curious to see his stats in both situations.
I’ve noticed this with the offense with more than just Gulbranson and this year. It seems like they can always drive down the field and score quick at the end of half or game even when the offense might be struggling. It definitely helps to keep the defense off balance.
Might as well do it all the time. They get lazy and sluggish when huddling.
Or at least do it sporadically to keep the defense off balance.
Looks like it helps, less thinking, just reacting for GB
I think that’s what it is. Maybe he gets into a flow state. Should run it all the time.
Velling > musgrave
Better blocker for sure
Wow ASU going to the Jonathan Smith school of degenerates who failed statistics.
Garbage sack by BG!
Halftime adjustments –
Better go for it if the alternative is a 35+ yard FG attempt
Run the ball more, mix up the type of carries like the first drive.
ASU is plus 5min on TOP. Need to equal that out so the defense doesn’t tire out
Have to put up points on this first drive to put ASU on their back.
Of the injured guys, looks like only Fuaga made it back. Miller is playing guard.
Report said Wright went into the locker room early with an injury.
So the secondary is nearly all backups. Explains some of the issues on defense being a bit leaky today.
I have a question. Because this has been bothering me. Is a draw or screen not in Lindgrens playbook? Can’t remember the last time I’ve seen the Beavs attempt one.
Screens -i remember a couple. No draws.
Lowe used to get a lot of the draws. They run more wr screens and tunnel screens. RB screens you don’t remember because they don’t turn out well.
RB screens are very rare with Lindgren. The types you see in the NFL anyway.
Lowe has been leaking out of the backfield when he’s been in. Just hasn’t been thrown the ball
Wright returned and is OK, looks like it was only a “comfort station” break. lol
Agree on your adjustments, I’d like to see some sweeps.
I disagree with that decision to end the half. Still had 2 timeouts. Take a shot.
Seriously Riley-esque. ASU made an uber stupid decision and we didn’t even try to make them pay for it.
Well BG taking that sack was a killer.
When you let an average (at best) team hang around…….
Need to get points on this first drive of the 2nd half.
Clown around, get clowned. Let’s go Beavs. This ASU team isn’t better than you are.
Colletto in a Speedo hitting on mcgregor sighting.
TD Martinez, he’s over 100 yds now……..when do you start saving him for next week?
Newell and Lowe available.
One more offensive series then start Jamming like Jerry Garcia.
Jam’s out, per radio……ankle.
What’s our retuning lines look like next year? Really good young offensive skill player foundation. I haven’t looked at either line in depth.
OL looks pretty good. Lose Kipper for sure and most likely Gray.
Next years line could look like this,
T – Fuaga
G – Bloomfield
C – Leavengood
G – Brewer
T – Morano
And then you have a couple guys with a lot of snaps like Miller who is starting at G today for Bloomfield/Brewer. Lopez was the highest rated OL in the freshman class. Was mentioned as a possible candidate to burn his redshirt. Strand was mentioned as the next guy up if Morano or Fuaga were both out.
Thanks. We should be really good.
Except for pass blocking needs to improve, so there’s time to hit the long passes on occasion.
We had a nice group of OL recruits that are redshirting, too
I havent looked at his eligibility, but how tf does Brewer have another year remaining?
He was class of 2016 originally. Maybe his clock started late because of the legal issues?
Brewer and my kid were teammates, my kid graduated 2017, and Marco was a year behind that would make him a 2018 hs graduate
The talent thats been recruited has been much better. DL should be better at least depth wise. Not sure if Rawls is back, Hodgins can come back if he wants.
OL talent thats been recruited is great. We lose Kipper for sure, possibly Gray tests the waters in the draft.
Good start to 2nd half. Now a 3 and out for the D.
Why are we making this Wyoming running back look like Herschel Walker in a runoff with the reverend warnock.
Um… hmm…
#28 will be a pro.
He was a walk on so I’m not sure if he has the speed that the NFL looks for but he’s the man.
Play maker who will only get harder to ignore. Late bloomer. Doesn’t have the body of a walk on…
I think they park Martinez and save him at this point. Although they just announced Jam is out.
Bring in gebbia and Newell for the 4th.
And Lowe
Pretty Game Manager Nolaneqsue performance so far by BG so far.
15 minutes away from being the most boring 8 win team in college football. Don’t care.
Who’s the second most boring 8 win team and why are they less boring than OSU?
They’re less boring because they have a D1 quarterback.
Oh lord ?????
-10? Lol. Homers
For some reason I’m really craving Golden Corral…
Okay please sit Martinez so he doesn’t get hurt!
Spot on. Sit Martinez and BG, maybe sub in some on the O line as well.
Basic cost/benefit
I hope Loecher* gets a shot at the pros. What a kick.
Why not run the ball 3 straight times after the muffed punt. Runs clock and ASU cant stop the run.
Man Hayes can boot the ball it is just his accuracy. Maybe he and Nolan have the same eye specialist.
Our defense is really good. Playing with backups in the secondary and not giving up much. Always a few guys going towards the ball carrier. Not many missed assignments. #19 is going to be really good next year.
Big difference after Bray’s halftime session with the D
Still concerning is the performance on 3rd down in the first half.
Man stupid coaches pul BG but not Martinez.
Finally… Shannon
Padding his stats so he wont transfer for all the NIL monies everyone gonna be throwin at him?
You may be right, still a stupid move at this point in the game and season. 3-4 carries and maybe 50 more yds shouldn’t be the difference in his decision.
Martinez has a shot at a 1000 yard season next week. Gonna be some added motivation for him and the line.
He should be up for FOY(?).
Freshman all-American
Ben’s best game. The depth was on display all over the field which was great to see. Great work to take care of business in a look ahead spot. Next week is going to be fun.
Beavs win. Better team chemistry and home.
Smiley finally gets a mention for getting 10 wins.
The announcers wont call next week the Civil War? Efn whimps. Would ignore it but they said that they cant say it. They actually brought it up.
Phil Steele 0 for 2 today
Man, Hayes has really regressed.
So bad
He was always bad.
Always
I try really hard not to be that guy hating on a college kid, but at some point you have to move on from a player that can’t do the job.
I can’t figure out what the downside to playing Atticus is, we already know what hayes is, he’s not ever shown the ability to play through a slump. He’s just always in a slump.
Ugh. Sappington is such a better kicker. Hayes could cost us next week. Make that change.
At least on FG’s could use Hayes for XP
Better name too. Atticus Sappington. Sounds like he wears a top hat and a monocle during his business classes.
Follows the theme started by Alexis Serna; good names and initials.
It really is an epic name.
Hayes has a strong leg, so at this point, any coaching during the week is not making any difference in regards to the technical aspects of kicking. Doesn’t Smith need to cut his losses and promote Sappington? 1-6 from beyond 40 yards is a nasty stat in this day and age.
Now you know why we didn’t try kicking FGs in Seattle, derp
Why even go for XP, when 2-points is right there for the taking?, derp
Calling pac 12 games
looks like Phil Steele missed too
Do we know that Phil Steele is a real person?
Largest margin of victory in Tempe ever.
8-3 heading into the Civil War. That’ll do Beavs. That’ll do.
Sure hope Shaun Aguano, with his connection to Chandler HS, doesn’t put the brakes on Beavs recruiting there……in baseball and other sports as well.
Their highest ranked guys have usually stayed in-state anyway
He’s not going to get the job and his last name is too close to “bat shit” anyway.
They won’t retain him
If we had a field goal kicker would we have just one loss? And did smith go for the win against Fresno state because he knows which player is more likely to convert?
Several reasons to be 10-1 at this point…
Not gonna win many games vs P5 opponents throwing 4 picks per game.
‘Chancy 4 picks’ and they STILL almost beat sc
:::sigh:::
I’m going Beavs 35, Ducks 28 as a preliminary pick.
Bray should get another game ball. The defense is so much better than recent years it is amazing. Jim Wilson said during the broadcast that this is a defensive team now, although it used to be an offensive team in the first few years with JS but not now.
It is true and the reason why JS should be shifting to an NFL circa 1990’s strategic approach.
Another good win.
8-3 yet only Utah really had the Beavs number. Easily could be 10-1.
Maybe this means lots of good football to look forward to in the future.
Easily could be 6-5 too. Funny how people forget that.
Stanford scenario was a once-every-decade type of thing, but the Beavs did enough to put themselves in that situation. Sort of like the Colorado game last year, but then they lost in OT. It’s fun to play what if, but in the end, the results are the results.
Agreed
With UCF losing, Beavs will move up at least one spot. Go Colorado and Go Oklahoma.
We want USC and Utah to win too, right? Keep those teams as highly ranked as possible while also giving the Beavs a chance to leapfrog any of UW/Oregon/UCLA by the end of next week.
The potential is there for a 3rd place conference finish for the Beavs if those teams lose out(unlikely they all do, but possible)
DOMINATE…………a theme in the mentality of Bray’s D. Heard that word from players postgame last week and again today.
That was a fairly complete game. A few hiccups but fixed at halftime. Trailed by 5 min in TOP at halftime, won the game TOP by 9 min. Won second half TOP 22 min to 8 min. Few mental mistakes.
A couple concerning injuries but they didn’t stop the team at all. Lots of guys got a bunch of snaps.
Just gotta hope the injured guys get healthy enough to play Saturday.
One has to go back quite a ways to find three straight conference blowouts in favor of The Beavs.
Bray is going to need to get paid this iff season.
Go Utes!
Good win by the Beavs. Gave up some chunk plays in the run game but that’s because Austin and Grant were out.
Ideal results for remaining games,
Help with bowl game slot,
USC wins
Utah wins
Colorado wins
Just to help the rankings
Oklahoma wins
UAB wins
Arkansas wins
Georgia Tech wins
GT winning over UNC. Wow, that would be a huge help for the Beavs.
How?
Beavs could leapfrog them with a bad loss like that. UNC really has no quality wins.
At this point does it really matter if the Beavs are ranked 16th or 17th?
Sure
I’ve been impressed with the steady improvement of BG. He keeps adding things to his repertoire, like taking off with the ball. I know these aren’t the best defenses, but for him to go 5-1 with 2 W on the road Is great. I think we’ve seen the last of Nolan as the starter. It’s BG’s position to lose.
Steady improvement in reducing dumb mistakes, too. Take the sack instead of forcing a bad throw.
He pump faked successfully in this game as well.
USC is in trouble. Chipster is about to run them out of the Rose Bowl tonight.
14-0 late 1st quarter
Exactly what I hoped Beavs could do to them.
UCLA’s defense is gassed
21-17
depressing to think how beavs manhandled sc and came up short, that was a winnable game
You sure about that?
I find it interesting that after the two most impressive victories back to back that I can remember, the number of comments here is a fraction of what it has been during most of Smith’s tenure. Speaking for myself, I just found it more satisfying to watch solid football by my team than to come in here and comment on it. I think it’s safe to say now that Smith was a great to excellent hire, warts and all as someone once said, the key factors for that making changes in the coaching staff when circumstances dictated doing so (firing Tibesar and promoting Bray, something Riley never did with his assistants) and going for a slow, sustainable rebuild (unlike Dennis). An 8-9 win season is what we should expect from this program year to year. That would put in play the occasional 10 win season/conference championship scenario 2-3 times a decade.
I reserve the right to change my mind on the basis of Oregon’s game tonight, but my early inclination is to think the Beavs win rather convincingly next week in the Civil War.
I noticed the comment count was low for CAL. People are usually apt to be more vocal when unhappy or they perceive something as negative.
This is impressive, even given the current state of their programs:
Cal: 38-10
ASU: 31-7.
Noticed that in Beavers have held 6 teams to 17 or fewer points. That’s sounds pretty uncommon in a game where offense and points are emphasized.
I love the emphasis on D, the improved tackling, the running game, and the use of TEs.
The Vols are getting close to kissing their playoff assess goodbye down 49-31 with about 11 minutes left. Spencer Rattler is going off tonight after being a major disappointment for most of the season.
An absolute massacre of a game
And USC takes the lead……
Also of note, with the Beavs win today they can finish no worse than tied for 6th no matter what happens next weekend. WSU won in Tucson so only 7 PAC-12 teams will be bowl eligible.
Only 7? lol. that’s pretty good for a 12 team league
Is it just me or does Oregon’s defense look really slow?
OTOH, their RB looks shifty and hard to bring down.
They move the game somewhere?
Announcers making a point about Nix being strictly pocket passer and not really moving around at all.
Hope Utes punish some ducks in a very physical game, Utes should win 31-28
Ducks are punishing Utah tonight
Didn’t someone on here say Nix was out for the season? Maybe that was speculation by a washed up journalist.
Speculated by duck player early in the week
Speculation or gamesmanship?
Well, it was the same player that copped to faking an injury at the end of the game, so…
Someone referenced a tweet that required a HIPAA violation from their doctor friend that said he was out for the year with a blown knee.
Twitter isn’t real life. In case you or anyone else didn’t know.
Exactly my point. The tweet was bullshit.
Nix has a pretty good limp, saw that it may be an ankle but I’d guess it is his knee. Utes aren’t yet forcing him to scramble and haven’t stopped the run so maybe they make some adjustments and NIx loses his touch after a while.
That RB Shannon runs hard. Good to see late in the games, that will pay off for him if the opposing D is tired, and/or thinks the game is over….
USC to the PAC-12 title game. Late pick seals it
3 ints for DTR seal the deal. USC has gotten a boat load of ints throughout the year…
Hard to beat Oregon when there’s no pressure on Nix.
They’re having him throw it right away by design. They don’t want him pressured or getting hit. He hasn’t taken a deep drop yet tonight
That’s their whole offense. He makes terrible decisions in the pocket so they make it easy on him. It’s correcting for what went wrong at Auburn.
That could work against Beavers…they don’t often get to the QB quickly…
How is Rising worse than Connor Blount against the DUcks but looks like Joe Montana against Beavs? Utes are less than impressive tonight. Disappointing.
That’s just mean dude.
Connor Blount was the worst you could do? He was decent compared to Garretson and Nick Mitchell.
I thought Andy Ludwig was the savant OC. He’s called some shitty plays or else Rising is changing them at the line. Why in the hell would you hand off when Rising could QB sneak for half a yard? Utes are getting what they deserve so far.
Our DLine doesn’t get home very often.
Ask them to come over for dinner, sounds like they might appreciate it.
Hopefully Utah just ignores Nix on any run play becaus ehe isn’t going anywhere.
Nice scoop and score to start the 3rd for Utes.
Utes rb Thomas looks like he is very rusty and a step slow to the lane. Rising looks like his legs aren’t right and no zip on his throws.
PAC12 weeks of atrition for many teams right now.
I’m starting to wonder if Rising is still injured. What a shitty game. Another game where QB play costs the team a game. I only care because it’s always nice to keep the Quacks out of the championship game, but that did not happen!
Two observations from this game:
-If this is the Nix we see next week, Beavs defense will dominate. He can’t run, he’s not even taking deep drops. Take away the short throws and he’s ineffective.
-I made this point earlier in the week but the Beavs will absolutely have to make plays in the passing game to be able to score on Oregon. Utah currently only averaging 3.1 yards a carry on 24 attempts. Riding Martinez to victory won’t be enough.
Yucks really getting the VIP treatment from the refs too.
Is blocking in the back allowed on bubble screens? Just asking for a ref friend!
If you’re referring to WHOREgon then yes.
The Ducks have a more physical front 7.
I think the announcers are big Nix fans. They have talked about him all night.
OT- Big Tinks and his tinklers revert back to the norm and get embarrassed in crunch time by Portland St. losing 79-66. I can’t remember them every losing to the Viks before.
Never happened. OSU was 16-0 all time vs Portland State before tonight
Thoughts post ASU game..
It was my first time seeing the Beavs in person for several years! ASU has a very nice facility and it feels like the crowd is on top of the field. It has the potential to be a very rowdy atmosphere, I’m sure when they have a better team it gets pretty loud in there. There were plenty of orange and black around and it was very nice enjoying some football late november in the low 70s.. Almost had to get a snow cone to stay cool haha : )
Aside from the missed FG early on, not too many things to be disappointed about. ASUs RB was pretty quick. The beavers D made some nice plays and held them to 7. The play of the game for me was the incomplete one handed grab by Bolden. WOW! Biggest disappointment was not seeing the LEGEND Colleto on the field. Saw him on sidelines with no pads on.
Feels like the program is headed in the right direction. The only losses this year have been close games against upper echelon teams. I like the matchup next week. Should be an exciting game. I do believe Nix is the better QB but not sure how healthy he is. What do ya’ll think about Gulbranson vs Gebbia? I think Gulbranson has done enough to keep the job for next week. He’s kind of a game manager but does have some quickness to pick up some yds with his feet if needed.
“ What do ya’ll think about Gulbranson vs Gebbia? I think Gulbranson has done enough to keep the job for next week.”
Are you high?
I didn’t get to see any of that Duck’s game. General takeaway?
They have a good run defense.
Couple of interesting points i saw in paper:
Duck Safety had a career game w/14 tackles, 2 INTS:
Utah controlled Ducks run game pretty well, less than 60 yards rushing, Nix with only one positive carry;
Wittigham said Ducks D has athletes, never let Rising/Utah get in sync.
On a side note, OLive hyperbole refers to the “legend of Nix,” as if the transfer is a program savior, and also disgusting is the writer even said “we” when referring to a question to Wittingham if Wittinghsm though “we (Ducks) got the fourth down conversion…” Wittingham did not think so.
This should be a very interesting CW.
Yeah weird how the announcers during the utah/duck game were swinging on bo picks buts too. Calling him a legend in Eugene and a player that would/should be enshrined in a yuck hof type player. I get hyperbole is the product they’re selling but for that kid? Don’t get the hype.
It’s another cycle of no QB development in Quackland. I know we fans would not mind a game-changing portal QB, but at least JS is trying with Gulbranson. Why do these “elite” young QBs keep signing with Oregon only to get replaced by portal talent?
Somewhat like The Beavs against USC. Poor QB play cost Utah a possible victory.
Cam rising had a shit game otherwise Utah wins.
Similar to the Stanford game, it was all Beavs in the stands by the 4th qtr.
One good thing with Oregon winning is that, combined with the Beavs winning, an early afternoon kick (as opposed to 7:30) for the Civil War seems highly likely. UO will flip spots with Utah and join the top 10, and with the Vols losing, likely reaching the 9 spot. OSU should leap frog some losers above them to at least # 21, and maybe pass UCLA to reach the 20th spot. #9 vs # 20 is a more attractive “prime time” matchup than (about) 15 Washington vs. the unranked Cougs.
Civil War 12:30 kick off on Abc
https://www.oregonlive.com/sports/2022/11/oregon-state-oregon-to-kick-off-at-1230-televised-on-abc.html
I hope JS and staff watched that game last night. It looked like Utah staff didn’t believe that Nix was hurt.
Interesting to watch USC, UCLA, Oregon and Utah all with similar zone read qbs, but on a night when they needed to use that strength only Williams from USC actually ran without hesitation. DTR looked like he had a concussion mid 3rd quarter, Rising looked like he refused to take the ball on several opportunities, Nix didn’t run at all except the clinching 4th & 1.
Utah missed 2 figs, had turnover on downs in the red zone 2x, and Rising tossed 3 ints. Utes had a horrible game plan and seemed quite limited on offense apart from Duck defense. Thomas looked horrible and slow, Rising had zero accuracy all night and the Ducks apparently disguised the secondary coverage pre to post snap pretty well.
BG better be watching film to prepare.
We know Ducks are front runners and the Nix injury is a wildcard for next week. If it is an ankle he may be fine. If it is a knee he will be the same or worse by end of this week.
Thoughts on USC- I now hope they make it to the playoff and get matched up with Georgia. If they get in they likely win it in 2 high scoring entertaining games.
Civil War score prediction- Beavs 31- Ducks 17
Beavs defense holds to form and is a force in Reser, Special teams and steady run game, play action and a couple of effective trick plays allow the Beavs to prevail. BG holds serve at home and plays great.
OT, speculation on coaching changes:
Stanford: There has been increased speculation recently about whether this might be David Shaw’s last season on The Farm. It should be. Whether it’s a firing (less likely) or Shaw stepping away to do something else (more likely), the joy and promise of what Stanford football can be is gone.
It’s remarkable to think about how close Stanford came to playing for a national title under Shaw between 2011-2015. With a little luck, it could have happened three times. And as college football was evolving into a more wide-open game, Stanford was a fun-to-watch antidote that simply wanted to beat the crap out of people at the line of scrimmage.
…
Nebraska: For about 59 minutes, the Cornhuskers were a better team than Wisconsin. But that didn’t matter Saturday. Of course it didn’t. Nebraska’s nightmare is seemingly never-ending, and a 15-14 loss to the Badgers confirms that this program needs big, bold action with its next coaching hire to rescue it from permanent irrelevance.”
Didn’t Nebraska do a big bold hire w/Frost?
https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/college/columnist/dan-wolken/2022/11/20/college-football-week-12-misery-index-tennessee-unc-florida/10743907002/
The Beavs looked good yesterday and BG looks to be progressing. Watch USC vs UCLA and I gotta say I’m even more impressed with the games the Beavs gave the University of Spoil Children. Williams was really good and is the QB I wish we had… man can you imagine that?
Nice seeing the Beavers-Ducks game get a decent window – the only real competition in the slot is the Iron Bowl and that game means nothing to anyone outside of Alabama. I like the Beavs chances if they can avoid turnovers and get a few on defense.
Lanning seems to be a really bad game coach. Every game he has a head scratcher. If Nix can’t run, this game gets a lot easier for Beavs. I’m thinking the refs will do everything in their power to help set up Ducks/USC championship. Look for every spot to be 1/2 yard in favor of Ducks and lots of holding calls on Beavs. That said, I think Beavs overcome and win this thing 34-27. Btw, Hayes is a POS kicker. No wonder JS went for it twice at UW.
Lots of hopium on this board for next weekend’s game. Beavs have the coaching advantage but personnel disadvantages in the trenches, again.
Homers forget that Cristobal (yes, CRISTOBAL) was able to jump out to a 31-9 lead on talent alone last year.
I hope smith coaches this game differently than last year. Score a touchdown, then go for two and fail, lose any momentum the offense had.
I hope he’s watching film of the Utah game and realizing running into the teeth of that defense isn’t going to pan out well.
Hopium – I’m stealing that.
Yeah, Cristobal focused on the lines and building out from there. Sewell looks massive and can move for example…
Well he’s a LB.
False
Penei Sewell is the left tackle for the Detroit Lions
That’s right…can think of the guy’s name (I don’t watch the Ducks), but I saw he’s up for some national award category…
Noah Sewell plays linebacker for hole.
Well GA beat them with inferior coaching and players.. let’s see where the chips fall
Beavs d is a hell of lot better this year
DL isn’t
“I reserve the right to change my mind on the basis of Oregon’s game tonight, but my early inclination is to think the Beavs win rather convincingly next week in the Civil War.”….wannabeav last night.
OK, wanna, Oregon’s game is in the books. How ya feelin’ now?
I’ll guess Nix will be in better physical shape next Saturday.
I’ll guess Bray will take a close look at how swoosh RB #0 was held in check late in the game (after being so productive early).
What I’m not ready to guess is which Beavs will return. Austin? Grant? Colletto? who else?
Oh yeah, pretty sure Reser will be worth more than the oft quoted “3 pt home field advantage”.
GO BEAVS!
If wsu beats UW, Cal beats UCLA, USC beats ND, Utah beats Colorado, and Beavs beat Ducks, it would be Ducks vs USC in P12 championship game. Then if USC were to beat Oregon, USC would likely be in CFP. Oregon would then have 4 losses. Would Rose Bowl select Beavs(9-3) over UW(9-3) UCLA(8-4), Oregon(9-4), and Utah(9-3)? I’d say there’s a small chance because UW would be coming off loss to WSU and Utah was in Rose Bowl last year so the Beavs might be more attractive than the other options.
There’s a 0% chance the Beavers go to the Rose Bowl no matter who wins or loses.
From the Rose Bowl site,
In both the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) and the CFP, if Pac-12 or Big Ten Conference Champion was selected to the National Championship or National Semifinals, that team was released to play in that game and the Tournament of Roses would select a replacement team. In the past, that allowed teams like the University of Texas (2005, 2006) or Texas Christian University (2010) to play in the Rose Bowl Game. Now, however, in the CFP-system, the Tournament of Roses may only select a team from its partner conferences.
Should a team from the Big Ten or Pac-12 be selected to go to the College Football Playoff, the Tournament of Roses will traditionally select the next-highest CFP-ranked team from that conference. There is, however, a caveat to that clause in the contract.
If the next-highest ranked team is in a ‘cluster’ of teams, meaning there is another team or teams from the same conference ranked within several spots of each other, the Tournament of Roses will select the team from that cluster that will result in the best possible matchup for the Rose Bowl Game.
In a cluster situation, the Tournament of Roses will take into account factors, in no particular order, such as: the last time a team played in the Rose Bowl Game, head-to-head results, regular season schedule, overall record, opponents played, past playoff or bowl appearances and performance, and historical matchups.
It should be noted that it is the strong preference of the Tournament of Roses, Pac-12 and Big Ten Conferences, that the highest-ranked available team in each conference be selected as the replacement team.
So maybe not zero but a 0.00000000000000000001% chance. Beavs would have to be the next highest ranking team after USC to be selected, which would require an act of God to happen. It would be UCLA losing, UW losing, Utah losing, Beavs crushing Oregon, and then Oregon losing in the title game badly and USC winning out.
Beavs beating ducks: possible
Cougs beating dogs: possible
Cal beating ucla: unlikely
Bison beating UU: inconceivable
If Ducks lose to Beavs, they both finish 9-3
If UW loses to WSU, they finish 9-3
If Utah wins, they finish 9-3
If UCLA wins, they finish 9-3
USC beats ND finish 11-1
Is it possible that Uw plays in conference championship game instead of Ducks when both are 2 loss in conference due to the head to head, if UW wins the Apple Cup?
So USC beats UW and go to CFP, Huskies then have a 3rd loss and there are 5 teams at 3 losses for Rose Bowl to choose. If the criteria is based on trends, Beavs would be on a 3 game win streak and haven’t been to Rose Bowl for the longest.
If based on tv, probably Oregon or UW, if based on rankings, it would be a group of teams all about 10-17 ranked together.
I think however that WSU needs to win the Apple Cup and UW slides back enough to join the crowd and Ducks go limping into the game against USC after losing the Civil War and Trojans curb stomp them by 28 so the Ducks drop significantly after 2 bad losses.
Then it seems the decision could come down to UW and OSU which may favor UW because of the head to head, but they would be coming off a loss as well.
I’m trying to see how it might still happen. Thanks for the posts above to at least start the dreaming again.
UW needs help to go the conference title game.
Two roads both require UW beating WSU
1 – Colorado beats Utah. UW ends in a tie with Oregon. Wins head to head
2. Utah wins, Oregon loses, UCLA loses. Three way tie. Since Utah and UW did not play, they go to tiebreakers where UW wins the tiebreaker over Oregon and Utah. It’s at like the 4th tiebreaker where they beat Utah.
here is the breakdown…………
https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/pac-12-championship-game-tiebreaker-155745252.html
Beavs win CW 70-0… move up to 14 in rankings. Utes squeak by Buffs. Drop in ranking to 15. UCLA 16. Ducks fall to 20 after USC destroys them in p12 championship. UW falls to 19 after losing to WSU. Rose bowl selects Beavs as highest ranked team after USC goes to CFP. I’d put the odds of all this happening to slightly higher that 0%
Isn’t there a duck forum you can hang out at?
Early CW lines up, Beavs 5.5-7 pt dogs.
I’d buy that, 7 seems like stealing

All that matters is the CW

All that matters is the CW!
Noticed in the OregonLive a UO safety was flagged for the second straight week for targeting.
I expect lots of cheap shots next week, particularly on Martinez, Colletto, Gulbranson.
The initial line is Oregon -3. I would say that’s too generous to Oregon if Nix remains in the same condition. Beavs should be the ones favored by a point or so in that scenario. But its impossible to know what his condition will be by the time CW kicks off. If he has his running ability back it will be difficult to hold them under 30, so BG will really have to come up big. The opportunity is there though, the Ducks pass D isn’t good.
Vegas Insider still shows swoosh -5.5 or -7.0, as mentioned above.
In addition to Nix’s condition, the availability of Grant and Austin will have a big impact on the result.

We definitely really need all hands on deck for this game. Sorry to say I’d rather not have Fenwick play. There’s just more talented RBs that should be getting carries unless Jam is still hurt.
Hmm if you can get -7 that seems like a great bet. To me that would be the line if Nix was at full health. Another thing to consider is that the Ducks haven’t proven anything on the road this season. After the blowout loss to Georgia, the only remotely difficult road game was at WSU and they barely survived. All other road games were cupcakes.
Not to mention defenses.
On the other hand, the Beavs haven’t proven anything against good teams, either.
True haha. Even with a hobbled Nix its pretty much a coin flip.
Good question: What is the Beavers highest “quality” win this season?
BSU;
Fresno State;
Montana State;
Stanford;
WSU;
Co;
Cal; or
ASU.
Ducks best wins probably Utah, UCLA?
That Beavers non-con schedule looks pretty good. They’re doing well in their conferences.
BTW, the SEC just enjoyed a bunch of non-con cupcakes this weekend.
I’d say WSU. They’re a good team and we handled them.
Crazy to have a year where we took care of business against all lesser teams and didn’t drop any that we “shouldn’t” have. That’s the mark of a well-coached team. USC and UW were painful close losses but obviously quality teams.
On paper there is no bad losses, but Wash and USC count as “Shouldn’t have” in my book considering how the games played out.
Fresno
It was one of the few games where our opponent was actually fully healthy and we beat them, straight up
Yeah, plus Haener was healthy, he’s likely to be a NFL draft pick (with the only real knocks being his size and perceptions of arm strength), it was on the road, and in a notoriously tough environment.
Ya he is a flyer in the draft at best. Great college QB though.
Pac12 fans always criticize SEC teams for scheduling late non-con cupcake teams, but they’re being smart by not beating each other up or risking their rankings late in the season.
Yep, 8 conference games and the Alabama bye week in late November. Solid plan that they all use and aren’t penalized for.
Coaches poll: USC #5, UO #9, OSU #22.

Fuckin A! Civil War and Axe game at the exact same time. Luck O Da Beavergopher….
Oh the conflict…the duality of Beaver and Gopher….
The ramifications are interesting: having to celebrate and curse at the same time? Drinking games – “Beavers/Gophers score! Drink/Drink!” – getting you loaded by halftime? The caloric loading of two game day menus….
Aiden chiles is completing 77% of his passes. Close to 3k yds and 33 passing tds. Has ran for 850 yds and 9 tds. Huge to land this guy. Guess we’ll see in early signing period in not to distant future.
That’s great but lets remebember HS numbers aren’t the same.
Would you have preferred we sign a qb with shitty HS #’s? Lol. Obviously what people do in HS doesn’t always translate to the college level but holy shit, why you bagging on good results?
Gebbia’s final HS season numbers. 70.3% completion percentage. 5,338 yards passing. 61 passing TD’s in 15 games.
Ya lets see what Aiden can do with a hamstring reconstruction then we’ll know if he’s a baller.
Boise State and Fresno State will play for the MWC title on December 3
Possible rematch with the winner…if USC blows it. Not a fun bowl matchup but better than traveling to El Paso.
Boise beat Fresno earlier this year but Haener did not play.
I can’t see the LA bowl being overly enthusiastic about that and doing whatever they can to make it not happen.
I had thought there used to be a no repeat clause? But I could be wrong.
I wouldn’t be excited about going to the LA bowl again and playing a team the Beavs have already played (and beaten). And I can’t see beaver fans traveling for that either.
It’s a prefer not to repeat clause because the Sun Bowl and LA Bowl have to take based on standings. So it could happen.
I would say the LA bowl should get re-partnered and moved up in the bowl selections. Best stadium other than the Rose Bowl in the PAC12 bowl games. And fairly easy to travel to.
Order should be CFP, Rose, LA, Vegas, Holiday, Alamo and Sun Bowl.
Is the Raiders stadium in Vegas not nice? Just asking cause I’ve never been yet, but would like an excuse to go
It is great! But let’s remember it’s HS where those numbers aren’t uncommon.
Sorry ended up in the wrong spot.
