    • I never got into Pokemon. D&D was more my time, and I never really got into that either. Diplomacy was really fun. But the point of that game has nothing to do with chamionships. Detente is about the best you can hope for.

  1. Angry, Rueck disagrees, no David-Goliath speech for UConn:

    http://www.oregonlive.com/sports/oregonian/john_canzano/index.ssf/2016/03/canzano_oregon_state_womens_ba.html#incart_river_home

Taking a break from peeing himself over unrealistic dreams of a Chip Kelly/Marcus Mariota reunion in the NFL, or any other remotely Duck-related story, Canzano has a few rare pieces on the high-performing OSU WBB, a team with integrity and numerous individual and team performance milestones…

One of his bits was that a Duck’s men’s basketball commit wasn’t going to flip-flop back to Oklahoma, even though Ducks had lost to Oklahoma. Isn’t that a non-story?

    • I’ve been using uBlock Origin on Firefox for a while now. Blocks ads just as well as adblocker, and takes up less memory in doing so, too.

        • Yep, I can do that right now!

The only downside I’ve found is that it sometimes gets too aggressive and blocks something you might want to view (like the comment section of some news websites), but if you know what you’re doing, you can go into its log and unblock what you need to.

    • @ Angry – re Ghostery & Youtube: Ghostery has added a new category called Customer Interaction which has what I’m calling a subcategory called YouTube. If you unblock that you’ll be O.K. with YouTube.

To be clear, Youtube works for me with Customer Interaction blocked and Youtube allowed.

I don’t use facebook so I don’t know about that one.

  2. Angry- you mentioned you were kicking around the idea of stepping away from here. What can we do to get that to happen?

    Serious question

  3. The NYT with more detail on the Syracuse and NC scandals that Scotty brought up in a previous thread:

“Secretly, perhaps even subconsciously, N.C.A.A. officials must have been rooting against a North Carolina-Syracuse matchup in the men’s Final Four. Any two teams but those. Any.

The organization must be cringing because while a Tar Heels-Orange national semifinal features two classic programs in a classic matchup, it also guarantees that an unwanted guest — academic fraud — will be front and center on its biggest stage.”

    • The Jerry Tarkanian quote, “the NCAA is so mad at Kentucky they are going to give Cleveland State another year of probation” has never rung so true.

  4. Hey guys,

Thanks for keeping my son busy. One of the days he’ll get a job and all of us can do a little less baby sitting…. in the meantime, thanks for putting up with him, Go Beavs

  5. For the game on Sunday,

    For the Beavs to win,

They’ll have to slow the pace dramatically. Uconn leads in scoring defense and scoring offense! Not hard to see why they don’t lose.

Likely need to shoot around 50% and above with 90% at the line.
    Limit second chances. Rebound everything.
Small amount of turnovers. Uconn will make them pay.
IBeavs defense will have to get Uconn to shoot under 35% from the field.
    No foul trouble.

So basically they’ll need to play perfect to win. While possible, highly improbable.

My prediction is the Beavs give them a tough test but Uconn is too good. I’ll go out on a limb and say Beavs will lose by single digits.

    • UConn look so efficient in ball movement (quick, minimalistic passing, not putting the ball on the floor a lot) that I’m not sure a change of pace will have much effect on them, particularly if OSU slows the game by passing too much and over-dribbling, creating the opportunity for turnovers. Not impossible, but a tough balance to maintain against UConn.

OSU needs to step up its passing. Some of those passes against Baylor were so obvious, and OSU’s passing around the perimeter often looked too tentative/slow to me; UConn players are long and athletic and there could be more than the 19 TOs OSU suffered against Baylor if OSU doesn’t sharpen up the passing.

I think OSU will have to try to maintain an outside/inside balance, and have their better foul shooters taking some drives, hopefully drawing fouls, and hitting their FTs. Also, shoot the open 3 with confidence if its there. I’m not saying shoot the 3-ball first all game long, but against a long, athletic team like UConn, if the open shot is there I think they’ll have to take it.

Play with abandon, try to be the aggressor. Have the mental mindset that you can win even if it goes to OT, because this game could get discouraging without that kind of mindset. When UConn substitutes, there’ll be little/no drop-off in player ability/production. And have fun, its a goddamned game….

      • Good points Bill and Obj.
Was the improvement in TO’s vs DePaul, Troy, and St B’s more due to the opponent than the Beavs? Or have the Beavs improved throughout the season and Baylor was just “that good”?
Either way, telegraphed passes could kill this team vs UConn.

And 3’s? I get nervous when they seem to be thinking 3 first. But, if they are dropping then they sure are nice. Inside/outside balance will be big.

Single digits? That is going out on a limb for sure. I figure it will be either a 15 pt+ loss OR within 5 pts EITHER WAY.
No limb for me. No guts, no glory I guess.

  6. I don’t follow BWB hoops (sorry Linus) so does anyone know how many major contributors are graduating this year? I don’t think anyone needs to follow WBB to know that UConn is as close to the exact definition of unbeatable as a sports team can get this year but I know they graduate a few key players after this year. So my question is do the BWBs have a legit shot at being back in the Final Four next year? Because Im guessing next years final four will be much more wide open and winnable

      • 4. So Hamblin, Hunter, Siegner, and Weisner. Has Siegner’s game fallen off lately?

Hill also graduates, but not a big contributor during games; however, her value to team chemistry is hard to evaluate…….as with everyone on the squad.

        • I was going to comment on Siegner awhile ago. She has been nonexistent this year, don’t know why, she was great off the bench last year. I think her best game this year was like 8 points, but most of the time she didn’t score at all, just a few rebounds.

          • Recently reviewed stats on Siegner and what I remember is statistically she is contributing the same as last year. The games I watched she provided great defense and hustle off the bench. I thought she has been providing solid minutes off the bench. In games that matter most the bench rotation was limited at the end of the season to have the best players on the floor. It seems like most all the teams do this.

          • She averaged just over 15 minutes a game last year. It sure doesn’t feel like she did that this year, and she’s a point per game off last year’s mark of 3.2 ppg. Yes she contributes, but it seemed that she blended in more this year than last.

    • It will be about the same. The same powers recruit the very best players. Rueck has now put OSU on the radar. His current class is his best ever and he is still in the hunt for a gal that just won the MVP of the women’s McDonalds AA game last night. She would be a HUGE get for him. They lose two great players, a very good one, and an excellent sub. The biggest loss is in the height dept. in the front court. They will probably take a little step back next year, but he has built a program, not a two year team. If he signs Sabrina I, elevate the expectations.

        • I’ve been following and don’t see much from Sabrina as far as tipping her hand towards any of her 3 schools, Cal, UO, and OSU. She would be amazing at OSU but I have a feeling she’ll head to UO with her twin brother. Graves is putting together some talent down there.

Aside from Sabrina, I’m sure the staff is focusing on Westbrook out of Salem for 2017. She went to the same school as McWilliams and is going to be a baller!

          • I’d put Ionescu in the “win some, lose some” category. When you win, you get a contributing addition to an already stacked team. When you lose, at least you were in the game. Westbrook will be another. And she’s really good.

LJ wound up at Casper College and was a vital part of a good backcourt for them this year. He was All-Tourney Region IX and second team for the season. He also got an offer from PSU a couple weeks ago. So it looks like he’s got himself upright and back on track. Good for him.

          • Just read an article in a San jose newspaper she is going to declare in April or May after her basketball season slows down. Apperantly she is playing in an all star game in New York on April 15.

          • Landing Ionescu could go a long ways in landing Westbrook next year. They are teammates in the AAU circuit. Along with Kat Tudor, who signed in the fall. A lot of the top girls are all connected to each other basically. Would also deal a big blow to Oregon’s program.

If winning is her top priority and it kinds of seems that way with the team she plays for in the summer, that would give OSU the edge. I guess she’s got a good connection with the Oregon coach and players there now plus her brother is walking on to the men’s team. Cal is very close to home.

Rueck will definitely be able to sell her on winning here with the final four appearance. Hopefully it can work out and the program won’t miss a beat next year.

          • From a logistics standpoint, we might suffer because this will still be Syd’s team next year. Scott will have to find a way to get them both on the court and allow them to free-wheel with one ball. But it will be Sabrina’s for the three years following.

I personally would want one year where I could ease into an established program without the pressure of being team leader. Maybe she’s the type who needs to be the leader from day one or relishes the challenges of starting over.

We’re not having this discussion if Syd doesn’t do what she did as a frosh. There are some recent records to be broken, and that’s hard to do when you have to share time. I would give her Weisner’s minutes and transform the O into a 2PG system to pick up the pace since we’re losing size and experience. Just open the gates, and let them run. That’s my favorite style of hoops. And it provides opportunity for more because of the pace itself.

          • I think she’ll wind up at Oregon, though Cal has a shot. Beavs in the final 4 + Rueck being an awesome dude might make her seriously reconsider OSU

        • as a side note, while checking ProspectNation.com for remaining uncommitted top players. Aside from Ionescu, I noticed a 6’9″ player named Felicia Aiyeotan. Although looks like from her interest list, she is staying in the East Coast

          • The fact that she did not commit early and took an official to Corvallis after NSD gives some hope.
How about this: comes to OSU and is still less than an hour away from her twin. Best of both worlds.
Agree with Jack that the dynamic with Syd W is the key. The culture seems like a much better fit for her with the Beav’s. If it is critical that she is the lead dog from day one, then she ends up at Nike U.

        • Btw… you thinking Quinnipiac next weekend? UND still has to deal with DU in a one-off scenario. And I don’t see BC putting up much of a fight.

          • Totally switched off mens hockey this year. The Don has killed all interest. Went to one of the women’s games. They win! Story today says the big sheet at Mariucci is not long for this earth. The sport would be so much better if everybody played on a big sheet. Oh well.

          • Agreed on the Olympic ice… that and no center line or auto-icing.

But let’s be honest. The B1G sucked the life out of Minny and Wiscy hockey.

        • Best to get here before tourist season, I hope you enjoyed it here, Beavergopher. Spring doesn’t seem to be exactly in a hurry here, but it’s still pretty.

And who gave me a minus for announcing that the Ducks got humiliated? This is a Beavers site, right…?

          • I grew up in Rapid City. My mom passed away last summer and am doing the house clean up thing.
Last summer I was reminded why I always stayed clear of the area during the bike rally. What a nightmare!

          • Beavergopher:

Sorry to hear about your mom, and your reasons for being in Rapid. I was on the West Coast on a similar trip a couple months ago. Even went through Corvallis for old times’ sake.

Next time you’re in Rapid, though, here’s something that might amuse you. Go to the corner of Seventh and Main, the Art Alley block. Check out the president sculpture from the front if you like, then mosey on back of him and look from that direction. What does it look like he’s doing?

No one I’ve talked to had noticed before (and certainly the sculpture committee didn’t), but it’s obvious once you look. Perhaps a little subversive artistry in the heart of Rapid?

      • South Dakota is who whipped Oregon not South Dakota St. Two different schools. You can’t play in the NCAA tournament and postseason NIT in the same year

        • My original post is presently broken up by a This Video Does Not Exist block but if you’ll look very carefully you’ll note I typed that South Dakota State lost to to Stanford by only (and perhaps I didn’t type the “a” or “1” but since “point” is singular – one can assume)

The following is a copy and paste from Stanford 2016 schedule:

Mon, Mar 21 NCAA 2nd Round: South Dakota St. Stanford, CA 6:00 p.m. W, 66-65

        • So funny – It seemed perfectly clear to me but I can certainly see why the South Dakota snaggle wasn’t to anyone else.

I should have said: The University of South Dakota Coyotes WBB soundly defeated the University of Oregon’s WBB in the 2016 NIT tournament. The South Dakota State Jackrabbits WBB came within 1 point of defeating Stanford’s WBB (a very good team) in the 2016 NCAA (more prestigious) tournament. I had not realized that South Dakota had not just one, but two very good women’s basketball teams. I was somewhat surprised and thought it noteworthy.

Now – having probably dug myself in even more deeply, I’m going to have a large glass of whisky.

    • Measures 5 and 50… aka the “I got mine. And I want to speculate on it and create multiple bubbles with it. Students nowadays can take out mortgages if they want ivory tower edumications” Amendments.

Same goes for any other state service.

      ….

As for the photos… Uh no thanks. You’re proving my point about you with that.

      Umm… yeah… okay.

    • Your ideations, A@A… not mine.

I do have to admit I thought the request for you to not ideate his penis seemed like a joke to me at the time. Thanks for proving him right… I guess.

  7. Who’s the new football commit? The twitter handle is worst then the nightly news. “The common item in everyone’s home that will kill your entire family, find out next on the 11 o’clock news”.
    Yes I’m impatient.

    • Sorry, was hoping to have the green light by now but I cant say anything just yet. Unfortunately, this type of info can be sensitive to some people and you don’t want to puss off the wrong person. This is why I normally wait for the players to break the news, and it’s their news to break anyway. Patience Daniel-san

  8. Why haven’t they announced a long term extension for Scottie? Scottie is from George Fox. Scottie deserves to sign for 10 seasons. If he leaves??? Oh my god!!!!!!

  9. Scottie like Corvallis too he has said this why no extension contract for Scottie yet? Why would AD be so wreckless with Scottie’s contract? Two way street.

  10. Yes! Loving my carrots again! As a side note,Angry, doesn’t a person’s IP change for mobile( smartphone) users every time they get on the interweb? Or is it when you change towers?
