Todd Stansbury Leaves

191

We hardly knew thee, and no idea if you did anything worthwhile. See ya, dude.

Who’s up next?

And how does this affect GA — did he have a good relationship with TS? Could be interesting. 3rd AD for him and Tinkle in just a few years, which can’t make them happy.

  1. Pasted this in the previous thread but it’s more appropriate here. Canzano writes of GA’s desire to be here long term as well as TS’s relationship with GA, which didnt sound great.
TS had some new ideas that he brought to the table, but I think having an AD on board that has our coach’s best interest in mind is very important this time around.

    • Just finished reading that now. Yeah, it didn’t seem like TS had a good relationship with anyone. That cold fish comment seems accurate. He made Bob D look like Mr. Personality.

    • Plus Georgia Tech is the school he played football at and graduated from. So once in a lifetime chance for him. We will wait and see who emerges as a strong candidate.

  2. Seems like this is Massari’s job to turn down as they’ll probably lose him permanently if he gets passed over twice for the position.

Two other names that might come up:
    1. Dave Cohen – Ass’t AD at ASU, Oregon native, used to work for the Blazers
    2. Kurt Gulbrand – Ass’t AD at Colorado, OSU alum

  3. Did anybody see the interview TS did during the ISU game about the Terrace? Very cringe worthy, I was waiting for him to starts calling out bueller……..bueller……….bueller..

      • I’ll never forget meeting Doc in class in 2008 when he was recovering. We had debate class together and we were on the same debate team. He always gave me shit for being a blazer fan (he is a huge laker), didn’t really know who he was, or obviously would become at the time. Was such a joy to be around and always positive and funny. One of my fav beavs of all time, prolly just because of the personal connection, but I feel he will be around this program for a long time.

  4. C’mon angry, “…no idea if you did anything worthwhile…”?
All ya need to know is this from Schnell: “This is a huge loss for OSU. Wow.”
That’s enough to convince me not to abandon ship!

BTW, I like Casey right where he is. However, he has done a heck of a fund raising job…having a winning team doesn’t hurt. Not sure that ability would transfer well to the AD slot.

  5. I seem to recall that when they were looking for a replacement for bdc there were comments made here which had something to do with Massari being hard to work with or something to that effect.

    Am I remembering that wrong?

  6. BREAKING:

Oregonian just announced Duvivier won’t play with beavs hoops this season due to personal reasons. Sounds like he could come back….

    • I like that Dr. Ray is lately visibly involved in athletics.
But his phrase “…everything we do is about inclusive excellence and leadership.” sounded like something from a HR seminar.

Hmmm “inclusive excellence”……well, OK. Sorta like a participation trophy?

  7. Unpopular scotty prediction:

After so many years of white dude ADs, OSU hires a minority candidate. Massari, upset about being passed over twice, leaves. Cries of -ism from random idiots saying he didn’t want to work under a ___.

I’ll put Week 4 picks up later.

    Hire Shawn Heilbron already.

      • I’ll take a shot.
Predicted scores for one game each week are used as tie breakers for those who correctly predicted the outcome for the same number of games.

The numbers in parenthesis are the difference between the predicted score and the actual score for both the winner and loser of that one game (the tie breaker). Taken as an absolute, the total of the two numbers breaks the tie and determines the order of finish of the participants.

        EDIT-After reviewing this weeks results:
This week 8 participants correctly predicted the outcome for 3 games, to break the tie the predicted scores for the tiebreaker game (OSU-ISU) were compared to the actual results. Scotty and whiskey remained tied since they both were 13 points off in predicting the score of the tiebreaker game.

  9. Yeah not a big deal with Duvier (still can’t spell his name). Young players can get up to speed fast and dominate college ball, especially guards.

  10. THis is what I want the new AD to be able to do:
    Put butts in seats
    and
“I’d say this, if I were Oregon St, I’d go to Adidas. You’re always going to be second fiddle under the Nike umbrella.” – @ESPNAndyKatz

Change to Adidas, and make it so that we don’t lose money to do it in the contract.

  11. On the negative side, this looks like typical OSU bumbling. They add Tinkle and Andersen (the latter kind of just falling to them), but they can’t stabilize the AD.

The positive side might be that Andersen likely gets input into his new boss, and maybe that makes him likely to stay long enough to build a program.

And sign a legitimate PAC QB or three….

    • Because you know, if I don’t have a good AD that recruits like, I can’t land a legitimate QB or three?

I understand you meant that if we get an AD that GA will like and we appease to his desires in an AD, then he’ll most likely stick with OSU longer and he’ll have more opportunities to get the program where he wants it.

On the flip side to that, I don’t think the newest coach will have the largest impact with the new hire vs. Tinkle, Ruik, Casey, Softball coach, Track and Field coach, Wrestling coach, Gymnastics coach, etc. If they were smart, they would hear out every coach and make a collective hire, but ultimately, we finally have in the major sports, coaches who are all like minded with the same vision. That is the identity of the Athletic Department. Continuity and Development of the Student Athletes. That’s the basis of this hire. Hire someone with experience, yes, but also hire someone who knows how to raise funds from donors and knows how to get home and homes with big programs. That will keep anderson here for the long haul, getting to our recruiting pipelines like Florida, Georgia, Texas, etc.

  12. I am curious about people’s assessment of Kearseley’s performance last weekend. I didn’t watch the second half after the atrocious tackling on ISU’s 75-yard TD run.

I have read that he graded out well, and only missed “two assignments.” I think someone on here posted that he missed two blitzes….how do people think he did?

Is he capable of being a difference maker on the line this weekend?

    • Excellent question, heads the list of a few that I think could spell the difference between a 13+ pt blowout and a “statement” upset.
1-Will Kearsley lead an improved O-line which results in a better rushing game? Note that Yanni was listed this week as “probable” even though still at #1 on the depth chart.
2-Will Hungalu play and do well, or will old man Willis come in and do very well?
3-With Togiai out, will Lucas be more involved?
4-Will Pierce get enough carries to make a difference? And, will Nall benefit from improved line play and return to CW like performance.
Lots to watch (beyond Bolden, Villy, and Seth).

EDIT: Took a minute to look it up, but here is what Woods said about Kearsley vs ISU: He jumped right in,” said… T.J. Woods, adding that Kearsley only had ONE missed assignment against Idaho State.

  13. This old tribune article specifically states that PK is paying towards Casey’s salary annually. And source apparently came from within the OSU AD. Not saying it’s correct, but this is partially why the rumor has been accepted as fact by many.

    http://portlandtribune.com/component/content/article?id=99900

“A source inside the OSU athletic department has confirmed the rumor that’s been raging since last week – Knight, Super Duck, as he’s called around Eugene – played a big role in keeping Casey in Corvallis.
Casey’s base pay at OSU has nearly doubled, and Knight, it is now known, is going to pay a sizable chunk of that raise, every single year Casey is coaching at Oregon State. And Knight stepped up to do it without being asked. He volunteered.”

  14. I was looking over boise state’s roster and we definitely have the size advantage. The question is can we use it to our advantage and run it down their throats? Also noticed they have lots of tight ends which which are pretty big that they probably use to create mismatches. Overall i think we can be competitive in this game if dg is accurate and hits his deep ball and the lines play well.

    • Hmm the preseason articles said the beavs were much stronger this year. So size shouldn’t matter that much right since all of the oline can squat 500 pounds.

  15. Put it in the twitter feed earlier but worth mentioning here, OSU is getting an Official Visit from a 4* JUCO DT Craig Evans. Ga recruited him at wisconsin but i think grades were an issue. He endwd up at Michigan State and played for the team that beat Oregon last season. Left that team for JUCO Arizona Western this year. I think he would be a 3 to play 3 guy if he came here. Pretty nice surprise visitor.

    https://twitter.com/Evan_Flood/status/779466959624679424
Former Sun Prairie star, #Badgers commit, and Michigan State DT Craig Evans will take an official visit to Oregon State this weekend.

  16. Caught Tumwater Dave on the JoeBeav show today. He blasted Schnell and Goe for “laying in the weeds” waiting for a chance to remind everyone that OSU would never attract a coach as good as MR. Noted Schnell’s comment on the “loss” of Stansbury and Goe’s pattern of downplaying the weakness of the roster MR left behind.
Almost provoked a meltdown by Parker when he opined that, in reality, MR left Corvallis THREE times (once when he failed to play for the Beavs after high school).

  17. I never understand it. Low gamer IQ. If your team is down and no time remains, you can never be tackled with the ball in your hand. Pitch that thing. Rugby time. Run that thing in and if your hit you’ll be down soon, so pitch it pitch it pitch it. USC #73 had no game IQ

    • Not sure why you are getting down voted? A final play like that should either end in a TD ,fumble to the other team or the ball going out of bounds on a bad pitch out.. If you get tackled your not doing your job, but it’s hard to think like that when you are actually in the midst of the play.

      • Yeah, with 8 seconds on the clock and one time out, they probably figured to get in two plays. But I also believe this is a coaching flaw and basic game intelligence issue. Thanks for seeing it clearly.

  18. As a Boiler alum, I’m loving the picks for them to win. It’s refreshing since everyone Boiler I know is wondering if the coach will get fired mid-season. To make this Beav related, Purdue just picked up Georgia Tech’s AD. Also Beav related, former PU QB Austin Appleby will fill in for the injured Luke Del Rio at Florida.

    Beavs beat Boise 28-20

  19. Gonna be sitting (maybe standing as well) in the terrace tomorrow via SQUAD. Also getting to be part of the pregame national anthem and hold the flag. A true honor. I will stand proud!

  20. As promised, a new thread for today’s game will go up in a couple hours.

Meanwhile, back to the departure of Stansbury. Canzano just up with his guesses, favors Scott Barnes. His connections to GA seem to be a big factor.

QUESTION: Would a pick which seems influenced by GA somehow alienate other coaches and existing staff in the AD??

    http://www.oregonlive.com/sports/oregonian/john_canzano/index.ssf/2016/09/canzano_updating_the_odds_on_t.html#incart_river_index

    • Found the following excerpt in Scott Barnes’ bio on the Pittsburgh website.
      http://www.pittsburghpanthers.com/genrel/scott_barnes_976219.html

“…Barnes not only built significant momentum for Utah State Athletics but did so in a fiscally prudent way. USU was lauded as the most economically efficient athletic department in the nation in 2009 following a study done by Texas A&M’s Laboratory for the Study of Intercollegiate Athletics. In four subsequent studies, Utah State finished in the top 20 each year, including three times in the top six….”

Being fiscally prudent would seem to be of interest to the OSU administration since the school doesn’t appear to have a lot of alumni who are high rollers.

Which led me to wonder about the A&M study so I did some digging and came up with this..
      http://www.mlive.com/eagles/index.ssf/2016/09/emu_athletics_recognized_for_m.html

I was a bit surprised, no make that shocked, to see which school was rated 3rd. Fiscally prudent? Uhhhh.

BeaverQB: Purdue WVU Nike SU USU OSU 29-28

  22. Georgia losing 38-0. They are extremely rarely even deserving of a Top 25 ranking yet they start each year ranked between #5 and #8 just so SEC teams get max wins over Top 10-15 and Top 25 teams. Biggest joke in college football. Stanford would destroy them. Washington would win comfortably and even a deteriorating Oregon team under Helfrich beats them.

They are ranked 12 now but should be around 35-38. Fricking joke.
