Rose Bowl will only happen if OSU gets past Washington and/or Hole.

I don’t see that happening in the next three years. OL isn’t physical enough.

  2. I think he doing all the right moves for that to be possible. That said there will need to be a good amount of luck and a special season to go rose bowling. I have thought we would make it twice in my life and it hasn’t happened yet. If his 2021 class comes in stronger than 2020 I would say we have a good shot in 2022 and 2023. Will have experienced QBs, stud RB, fast WR, deep lines and some very experienced LB and Secondary. Just need a kicker.

    • Need luck with injuries, home schedule, and physical O snd D lines. Don’t want to just get there, but win. That takes lines….

  3. Oregon state getting some love on TNT… Blazers vs Mavericks… after two long threes hit by both teams… Kevin Harlan says “two long threes hit from Corvallis!”… Thought that was interesting… Although I feel like Reggie Miller had no clue what Kevin was referring to… he just kinda chuckled lol

Sean Miller-Moore starting instead of Alfred Hollins.

Tinkle proving his ineptness again by benching the wrong guy.

Reichle must have pics of Daddy Tinks blowing another dude.

        5

        Wrong.

Reichle is worthless and wouldn’t even see the floor at any other Pac school.

I’ll take Hollins over Reichle 10 out of 10 times.

        • 4
          2

Compare them head to head the last ten games then! Lol… not saying either of them are good, but Reichle has been more consistent and that ain’t saying much

          • 4
            1

I remember Reichle had one good half vs UA. That’s about it.

Sadly he’s the leading scorer in this game. Not surprised they’re losing.

This feels like the ASU game all over again. Poor first half and the game gets away from them due to a long scoring drought.

            I’m sick of Tinkle

            1

Cause those are the games you actually watched lol… they are both inconsistent, as shown tonight… that being said, if you think Hollins > Reichle, then I don’t trust your opinion

          • in your first comment you said he’s “clearly superior”. In your next comment you walked back on that statement. So which one is it????

I’ve watched and looked at the stats. Hollins averages 2.5 fewer points a game. Is a better rebounder, turns the ball over fewer times and has a better FG shooting percentage. In 6 FEWER minutes per game. And he plays better defense. Yeah my opinion sucks and Reichle is “clearly superior” LMAO!

Reichle must have dirt on you too.

          • Reichle looks like a pin ball out there getting bounced around between all of the bumpers. On occasion he gets lucky and ends up in the right spot to make a play, but more frequently he ends up making a bad play

          • Whiskey, this got awkward… I didn’t realize you actually think Hollins is a good player… I was looking at it like they are both STD’s… You don’t want either one but one is worse than the other… Hollins is the hepatitis and Reichle is syphilis… conclusion they both suck but one is worse than the other

And Sean Miller-Moore was worthless tonight, he looked like he was stunned to be starting. Dastrup looks like a brawler when he’s out there, but he never plays. The team is soft and not athletic. I’m not confident they are going to win five conference games. I hope I’m wrong.

They need to go 8-3 the rest of the way just to equal last seasons conference record. It’s over, if Barnes had any cajones it would be over for Tinks also at the end of this season.

        • Tinkle refuses to use Antoine Vernon. I will never, ever understand – and CR did this as well – the reason for calling time-out after a good play when the team appears to be getting into a rhythm.

  5. 3
    1

When you think it can’t get any worse, they go the final six minutes of the half without scoring a field goal. Nice to see senior leadership stepping up at home. Lil’ Tinks with zero baskets in the first half. I mean, what the fuck is wrong with this team, they’re making UCLA look good!

And also, what the fuck is that Harlem Globetrotter weave they are doing now to start the offense? It pisses away 15 seconds off of the clock and achieves nothing.

  6. 5
    1

There it is. Double digit lead for UCLA right out of the gate in the 2nd half. Game over.

Fuck you Tinkle! Please just go away.

Turning this shit show off. At least baseball starts in 3 weeks.

  7. 5
    1

And there it is a 4 point loss at home to an inept UCLA team and this time they started their come back soon enough to actually take the lead and then the upperclassmen somehow managed to fall apart at the end. Watch, I bet this year, Big Tinks will elect to play in the CBI so Lil’ Tinks can pass up GP for the scoring record. That would be a travesty.

  8. 5
    7

TBH we’re a long ways from a Rose bowl win imo. The rest of the teams are getting better too. We appear to have a QB, WRs, offensive line, defensive line, and secondary all in the bottom half of the league. Just trying to be objective…

      1

Well I never said a win, and I didn’t say it was soon or far, I just noted something is brewing. I did ask how long you think, so give me an answer.

      • Coffee is ready! Angry was right something was brewing! Seriously though I think that it does feel like something is brewing up in Corvallis.

      • They are on their way. The Beavers are unrecognizable from 2 years ago and in only 2 years. They should be able to make a run in next 3 years. Transfer portal is huge for teams with our make up.

I don’t think this team’s improved much in the last three years. And I’m guessing next year will be considered a rebuilding year?

  10. Also, if the spam bot software gets you, there’s no need to curse at me on the allow request form.
People sleep. I’ll get to it when I get to it. Jeez. I’m looking at you, Chuck.

    • Lol, don’t take it personal angry ;)… I literally got hit with the filter twice in a row and you have to fill out a bunch of shit to bypass it

I suggest everyone ignore Mens basketball until Coach Tinkle is gone. Made this decision early this season when we were beating up on shitty teams purely based on how he still plays the wrong players, out of position, and has an awful offense. I knew we would be exposed once conference play started. It’s easy to get tricked as they’ll lull you back in by beating someone they shouldn’t when everyone is hitting the same night while the other team has an off game, so you have to just make the decision to cut the cord.

It’s been very liberating. I’d rather scrub toilets, work on taxes, or accomplish any household duty then watch these poorly coached dudes piss away another season.

My football Orange Colored glasses have been dusted off. Rose Bowl or equivalent within 3 years. Rebuild has been expedited by the transfer portal. Smith seems to be smarter then most coaches. I like everything about the program right now.

  12. Call me crazy, but I think the team has a decent shot at winning the North next year.

Biggest question mark for me is OL and how quickly that group pulls things together. I don’t anticipate the loss of Hodgins and Luton being too difficult to overcome. Gebbia brings a new dimension to the offense with his legs, and being forced to spread the ball around rather than focusing on a single receiver should be a net positive for the team overall. We still have playmakers if we can get the ball to our receivers in space and on the move.
On defense, the team returns almost all of the key playmakers. We’re thin at DT, but have so many big DE type players, the makeup of the line may change, and probably for the better. DBs will need to show immediate improvement and are pretty inexperienced.

    Looking at the North competition:
Vs Oregon-replaces most of their OL and QB new OC
@ UW- No Chris Peterson. New DC, new QB
Vs. Cal- probably will improve this year if Modster is healthy.
@ Stanford- Loses several key upper classmen to transfer
Vs. WSU-new QB, new Coaching staff.

Also on our schedule from the South:
    @ ASU- tough road game.
Vs. UCLA- beatable and at home
@ Utah- Loses several key seniors. Huntley/Moss/Anae/Moss
Vs. Arizona- should be a W

Most games are on Saturdays, with exception of Stanford. Bye week is right in the middle of the schedule.
I dont know….this year’s Pac12 schedule doesn’t look very intimidating. The potential is there for 7 wins in the conference, which should put a team in contention for the top spot in the North.

      • Nothing is certain at this point, but it sounds like both are applying for a waiver. Both have a decent case, since their coaches either bounced or got fired, and both are moving closer to home. So, if the NCAA rules in their favor, we could potentially have both available next year.

        • That’s going to determine next year, I think. I see 7+ wins if we have those weapons. Gebbia should have a nice season with those guys.

    • You’re not wrong. The whole North is in a bit of in turmoil and across the board should have a down year. I wonder what kind of long odds you can get on Beavs to win the north next year.

      • I would think a 2-1 start in the non-conference should be the minimum expectation.
So 9-3 regular season record shouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility. At least in my opinion.

    • OK, I’ll call ya crazy. Crazy as a FOX!!
With the factors you’ve listed, I think next season will be lower scoring than the trend lately and that DEFENSE will win lots of games throughout the league. I like the Beavs chances in that regard.

  13. You can probably say these next two games decide whether the women’s team is a #1 seed and can play in the Portland region or a #2 /3 seed.

Beavs win if Kennedy Jones can be a scorer. Her shooting has been abysmal esp from distance.

It’ll be interesting to see how Rueck coaches this game. Generally he’s shortened the bench in big games.

      • Kennedy Brown has been an effective shot blocker but not so great on offense, Taylor Jones had a bit of an off night vs Stanford.

I agree with Bill about the importance of these two CW games and am also curious to see how Rueck coaches these games.
Big, big factor will be Aleah and Kat hitting 3’s, that along with Jones and Mikayla returning to their pre-Stanford form.

        • SR has the solutions to his problems but he is keeping them on the bench. Morris provides the low post scoring option as well as a more physical rebounder and shot blocker than the two frosh. Simmons is the best athlete in the backcourt and the solution to the problems with the pressure D. Kat is a liability right now. Simmons should be getting her PT. Goodman should not be doing any dribbling. It is painful to watch.

Beavs won’t make it to the Rose Bowl under Smith until, as BeeG suggested in the previous thread, OSU has a go-for-it-on-4th-down coordinator.

Seriously, for OSU to make it to Pasadena the planets will have to align: (1) an accomplished, 4th or 5th year senior QB who has already passed on the option to turn pro early; (2) juxtaposed with an upper class laden offensive line; (3) combined with the latter-day analogue to a Nick Barnett/Richard Seigler LB combo, (4) led by a coach with a carpe diem philosophy (as, for example, going for the bomb right after a turnover, blitzes on D, and yes, going for it on 4th down when conventional wisdom says punt or kick a FG)

    • Remember when going for it on 4th down, when conventional wisdom said to punt, cost us our 6th win and bowl eligibility?

The main planets that have to align are injury related. Stay healthy when other teams lose key players, rather than the other way around. We are starting to bring in talent that should be able to compete with “most” other Pac12 teams on a week to week basis.
Player development and coaching continuity can help overcome some of the deficiencies.

  15. Winning the North is a big stretch. Our defense, while
improved, was still really bad last year. I expect more incremental improvement on that side of the ball.

Coach M is the most important Beaver this year. If he can get a surprisingly experienced, but newly minted OL unit playing well and our offensive output doesn’t drop, a strong offense plus a mediocre defense will have us in the top 4-5 in the PAC. If those things don’t happen, we’ll be at home in December again.

I now have faith that we have the right coach for the job and it can happen. If not for a dropped 4 yard slant at Iowa by a first team All B1G WR, the Golden Gophers would have been playing the hated Quacks in the Rose Bowl. I never saw that coming, but things worked out. Same things have to happen in Corvallis. It is critical to get to a bowl this year to be able to sell to recruits and ramp up the talent level.
Luck with injuries to key players
Continue the lack of turnovers and ball security
Keep the coaching staff intact for a few years
    Win the kicking game
Totally agree that Coach M is the most important guy for this season. The skill players are in place. A good OL is the key to the season. We need to score points and to play some ball control to help out our developing D.
JS has to temper some of the aggressive calls and pick his spots.

  17. 3-5 years. Besides the injury luck, the other alignments needed are in the schedule: creampuff non-conference schedule with low/no risk, and the conference schedule falling the right way, in terms of spacing the more challenging programs.

    2020 – @ Okie State, v. CSU, v. PSU
    2021 @ Purdue, v. Hawaii, v. Idaho Vandals
    2022 – v. Boise State (home), @ Fresno State, v. Montana State
    2023 – @ BSU, v. UC Davis, v. San Diego State
    2024 – v Idaho State, @ San Jose State, v. Purdue
    2025 – v. PSU, v. Fresno State, @ Texas Tech

While I’d prefer a “great” defense, I don’t think its necessary. I think a “good” defense with a productive offense and special teams that are actually special can get it done. Nobody seems to know what constitutes pass interference anymore, few teams are playing D, the game favors the offense.

      • An 8 win USC team made it to the Holiday Bowl last year. I think OSU could do that in 2020 with all of the change in the conference, including new HC at UW, new QB at Oregon, new coach at WSU, Stanford program having issues.

Last year the Beavers lost to UH, Stanford, and WSU by a combined 7 points, beat ASU by one….so very close to a 7-8 win season.

For the 2020 schedule, @ Okie State, @ UW, @ ASU, and @ Utah seem like probable losses.

A holiday bowl would get the fan base interested and the recruits would take notice of the progress.

  18. 3
    2

With a little better in game decision making, last year’s team could have easily been an 8 win team. (Hawaii/Stanford/WSU)
The only games we didn’t belong in were OK State, Utah, and UW.
Oregon turned out to be much closer than we expected.

I see no reason we can’t win 8-9 games next year.
OK state on the road is a likely loss.
    Utah loses several key seniors.
UW is dealing with significant roster /coaching changes.
Oregon replaces several key roster pieces on offense.

  19. I don’t think beavs will make it to rose anytime soon. that said, I think we’ll get to a bowl game in next 1-3 years. i’m hopeful for next year but concerned about QB, OL, receivers and injuries on D. I don’t think Gebbia is going to be much more than a mid level pac12 QB and I’m really concerned with loss of Hodgins. He made everyone on the O look a lot better than they were

Regarding basketball, I’m certain Tinkle will never do much more than he’s already done. every pac12 coach has outcoached him this year. I know, we won vs Ariz and Colo but we got unusually hot vs Ariz and Colo was a fluke. In addition, Tres that guy who puts up some numbers but isn’t capable of leading or carrying a team to wins. IOW, he’s a loser

    • Even if Gebbia doesn’t pan out, which is unlikely, Nolan also looks like a beast.

WR is one of our strongest positions if the transfers get in. We also have 3 beasts at TE.

OL is biggest issue, and both QBs can move a bit.

      • Just watched Nolan’s film. Didn’t realize Nolan had UCLA, Okie State offers. His combination of throwing and running ability seems unlike any QB the Beavers have had in the modern era.

I feel better about the next 3-5 years than I already did.

          • This is not satirical in any sense… Angry I 100% agree with you on this one… We finally have three legit QB’s in the fold… Gebbia obviously has the leg up cause he knows the system… But if he struggles later in the season I think we will have two capable backups… that’s a huge advantage… The Beavs haven’t had that in a long long time

      • OL biggest issue cause we don’t have players or lack of experience? We have 4 people that have starting experience, a transfer with size for the gig (well see how he does) and loads of big young guys that are probably wanting to see the field. Is our talent level just too low?

    • 1
      1

I don’t see what’s wrong with a mid level Pac 12 QB. The ducks just won the Pac 12 with one. If we have a good defense and run game, then a mediocre QB isn’t an issue.

        • Herbert wasnt great as he often under threw, over threw and missed wide open receivers. He had a great O line in front of him often giving him a clean pocket. His QB efficiency rating in a clean pocket wasn’t as good as good as Luton’s rating. The ducks defense carried the ducks all year long.

          • 1
            1

Not to mention an inconsistent record handing the ball off.
Herbert is, by all accounts, a bright mind; he’ll make some $ holding a clipboard and eventually have a nice career in medicine or whatever.
He certainly didn’t live up to the swoosh funded hype!

      • ReverendBeav… Angry will never agree on this one… he thinks that the QB is the most important position… Oline in college means more imo, it’s not one position but it can make a mediocre QB look great… What did Sherbert have, one of the best lines in the nation, he wasn’t great by any means this year but he was good

  20. WBB Game thread at 7, or keeping it in general thread?

UO with a 32 pt win over #3 Stanford and a 50 point win over Cal. UO averaging 87.5 to OSU’s 71.4 ppg.

  21. 2021 is shaping up to be the year. 2nd year starting QB, we only lose a handful of players next year (look at the seniors for next season, most were injured for most or all of the start or were not starters). Also gotta figure Smith will get a couple immediate impact guys in this next year via JUCO/transfer portal that will start in 2021. Barring injuries, 2021 should be the year we field our strongest team…hopefully Jefferson returns for his Sr. year and Lemon signs with OSU again for 2021.

    • I agree. A lot of the future success will depend on how these jc db’s pan out and how the OL develop. I have faith in coach M but he’ll have his work cut out for him as they haven’t seem to do to well recruiting that position thus far. I think the offense will put up similar numbers as last year. I’m concerned about the other tackle position. On D they look pretty solid everywhere except DT and if the transfers don’t pan out or have growing pains. I think there is more height at DB than WR. if they can continue their trajectory I think they’ll be competing for the rose bowl but wont make it. There just isn’t enough depth on the OL and in the defensive backfield.

Nicebeav brings up a good point about the trajectory of the other teams in the pac 12. I think we probably have more momentum than any other team other than the 2 division champions. I also agree with his comments on coaching stability. How long can we keep the staff together or at least most of it.

I’ll go with Gudbranson gets us there his senior year!

  22. 7
    4

I think all of this talk about 8-9 wins next year is delusional. Yes, OSU lost some games it could have won (Hawaii, Stanford, WSU) but it also won games (
UCLA, Cal, ASU) against teams with a heavy dose of injuries, principally at QB. I do believe OSU will be better next year, and likely competitive in every game (unlike 2019) but might still only bring home 6 wins. That would be progress and qualify the Beavs for a bowl but I think 7 (though a stretch goal) is what it will take to spur fan support and better recruiting.

    • I agree there were “coulda” games that went in the Beavs favor, and I factored that into the “coulda” won 7 or 8. I say 7 because ASU coulda won. ASU next year with that QB is threatening, but I think Edwards will handicap them overall.

I think it’s likely that teams will again underestimate OSU next year, because of Luton graduating and OSU starting an “unknown” at QB. Team’s game plans will likely focus primarily on Jamar Jefferson and Hamilcar. Gebbia and/or Nolan will surprise people in my opinion. Gebbia only prepped as a starter CW week last year, and look how well he did in Autzen. The only people who appreciate what a threat he can be are here and maybe Duck coaches. Plus, I think both Gebbia and Nolan have different, more competitive mindsets than the likes of recent OSU QBs like Luton or Mannion, who looked disinterested in bigger moments (Mannion’s FR performance at AZ excepted). Gebbia doesn’t like to lose. Nolan has already said the opponent he most looks forward to is Oregon. I’m speculating on intangibles here, but I’d put money on these guys intangibles and I think the difference will be noticeable.

Also, there’s 7(?) home games next year, which should help, even those last year’s squad seemed to do better on the road. There’s an opportunity for a confidence-building run against CSU at home, then PSU and WSU (with a new staff and Banker(!) as a D coach), then the toughest looking stretch of @ ASU followed by @ UW. After UW they have a bye and a manageable schedule with 4 of the last 6 games at home.

  23. it’s sad, tragic actually, that just like 08-09 in football, the Beavs this year have a good to great women’s hoops squad, but the Ducks are just a little bit better at the same time.

  24. 5
    4

What a condescending prick jelly graves… Taylor’s 17 points is better than Sabrina’s 15 and he says well anyone can make a layup. Fuck that guy

    • 4
      3

Typical duck bullshit they never give credit to their opponents. Taylor Jones as a freshmen was unstoppable because she got to her spot by knowing how to beat her opponent to the spot resulting in point blank shot after point blank shot. Graves and his traitor assistant coach can eat Shit.

  25. 1
    1

nice effort after digging themselves a big hole. ran out of gas at the 2 minutes mark. bodes well for the rematch at Gill. I don’t watch a lot of hoops but the one thing that stood out to me is that the Oregon team is a lot stronger. got almost all the loose balls, tough rebounds, etc.

    • 1
      1

I’ll be at Gill this Sunday and the beavers will shoot much better than tonight. Aleah might be coming out of her funk. If Kat can start hitting again, the beavers will be tough at home. This ducks team is tough though.

          • Pivec has played like a flummoxed frosh recently. Several TO’s by forgetting to dribble when making a move and the old bugaboo of going into traffic and picking up the dribble has returned. Ducks senior leader played great and ours did not.

    • 3
      1

Yup, TO’s are a big part of the story, 12 point loss and a 13 point difference in points off of TO’s

      Oh, and just 4 of 9 FT’s.

      • TOs are a consistent problem for OSU, not an anomaly. Its always written off as acceptable and it shouldn’t be if they want to be great.

        • TO’s have been a problem for so long under Rueck; I believe he has even indicated that he is fine with 10 or 12 per game.
That said, after tonight the season average is 15.2 (up from 12.5 last year) vs opponents averaging 10.6 (8.8 last yr).

Steals are another area where the Beavs lag their opponents, 4.5 to 7.4 per game.

I’m glad we have Rueck, he’s a great teacher and a great influence on the gals. He’ll reach several Final Fours in his career. But, as angry has pointed out, even great coaches usually have warts.

          EDIT/ADD………Saturday:
Postgame, Rueck said, “You really need to be six, seven max against this team here,” Rueck said. “You can’t give them anything easy.”

    • It will be more competitive maybe, but I think Ducks win again.

OSU just doesn’t have the killer instinct. Likely sweet 16 again, which is good, but they need a few players that don’t just like to win, but love to win and hate to lose.

        • One of the things lacking this year(and last year) is having a big that they can throw to over the top, command a double team, and quickly pass out to an open shooter. With Ruth and Marie that led to a lot of open shots. Against the top teams we are passing up some shots early in the clock and ending up forcing up stuff late. Or, not even getting a shot up. Happened last night a couple times and several times against Tree.

          • Yes, and the funny thing is, Taylor and (to some extent) Kennedy, both have better hands at this stage than either Ruth or Marie.
Haven’t seen enough of Morris to be sure, but she did look good vs Cal.

      • Unless we improve quite a bit I don’t see a sweet sixteen. Right now I think we are good enough to make the tourney. Not much beyond that.

  26. I didn’t see video of the halftime quote from Graves. What was the context? Saw the quote typed out online but it doesn’t really make sense to me. What does this even mean?

“What the hell. Anyone can make layups.”

    • My view….
Context was how the two teams had been scoring, answer was passive-aggressive diminishing/ignoring the fact that Jones was consistently beating his defense.

  27. Upon Further Review
Thinking of angry’s original question about YTR (Years to Roses), I wonder what y’all think we’ll see in terms of Points Scored/Allowed per game in the coming season?
For reference, the 2019 squad averaged 31.2 scored and 32.5 allowed. That’s with Gumbs in only 2 games and Eldridge in just 4.

With a run threat QB and Tibs (you know I really like him, right?) working with a healthy group, I’m looking for average scored to be in the 34 to 37 range and points allowed to go below 30. Thoughts?

Oh, and has anyone listened to that Gebbia podcast linked above? It may impact your thinking.

    • I think defense will take another big step if the jc guys make a solid impact. The offense might improve a little but the guys that we lost on offense were pretty much our most productive guys at each position. I think the offense will be more balanced with more big plays with the speed at WR and musgrave at TE.

      • Assuming Gebbia is the QB, I’m not worried about the passing game. In his only start, 9 guys caught passes. Lutons high was 8 with most games being in the 5-6 range. More guys will be engaged and it will be tougher for the D to key on any one guy. OL is a question mark but Gebbias mobility will help mask some of the growing pains. I don’t see the O dropping off at all. If the D can be average, 5-6th in conf which is less than 400 yards/game, we’ll win 7-8 games and make a bowl.

          • That would be great! I must say that would be quite a jump tough. OSU was 105th this year. UW and Cal were 3/4 in the Pac 12 and 35/65th nationally. You thinking a top 50 defense then? Rashed was a beast last year but we still couldn’t generate pressure consistently, especially on 3rd down. If that happens, we could see that type of jump.

          • Maybe top 70?

After all, Morris wasn’t 100% all season, Omar only came on late and his brother is now eligible, Gumbs only 2 games, Roberts should be even bettter, and Whittley has gotta be in better shape.

Weakest area should be DB’s and they may benefit from the coaching, QB, and system changes noted for opponents.

          • Interesting point with Speights. I was high on him all year after I saw him making nice reads in the Hawaii game. Looking at his game log though he has 10 tackles in the first 5 games. First big gamewas utah with 8. Slumped against cal with 3 (although we were killing them with sharp and ham). Last 5 games of the season he had 50 tackles. If he can keep the spark going at the end of the season him and Avery will be competing to hit 100 tackles next year.

It seems this Morano kid that we are signing in Feb has some baseball ties. And he has a younger brother who looks like an up and coming pitching prospect. (Class of 2023, so a couple years out)

Anybody here know anything about Morano possibly playing 2 sports?

  29. Just noticed WSU QB is playing in Senior bowl. He had a handoff that went for a TD..,.

Herbert with a nice scramble then a TD pass a bit later, getting positive comments from announcers.

  30. I can’t get the all star football game on cable, no hockey, Warriors in the dumps, baseball doesn’t start for three weeks yet, so forced to watch OSU men’s hoops for a diversion. Late first half comeback reminiscent of women in CW last night but early enough to matter. Today’s lackluster start reminded me of the way late-Riley football teams approached things.

Exactly how many years are left on Tinkle’s contract?

I think a good way to measure how a coach is doing is if the team is getting better as the season goes on. In the case of
the beaver men they just keep looking uglier every game. I also think they are not athletic enough or strong enough. Thompson
and Tinkle are good players but really not that special, if they were you would see them make a difference in close games. If
you watch great players they will their teams to win.
It is time for a change and WT needs to go. If you look at what we have for next year it is only going to get uglier. WT has had his
    chance and he failed.

I’m wondering how Big Tinks spins this? The pre-season hype was that this was the year. This is the first time in ages I didn’t even bother watching or DVRing the game. I checked the score on the phone once while I was out and saw a double-digit deficit and that was all I needed to know.

Where are any more wins coming from? What a mess! We had our first clue when they played shitty BUT athletic teams in Oklahoma and Texas A&M and got their asses handed to them. Now it’s in full effect in the conference play. The administration can’t pay the buyout, so we have to live with mediocrity or worse?

What kills me watching this game is seeing the Beavs wait until 10 seconds or fewer are left. (Usually for a rushed shot) You’re down 20. Tinkle has three years left. Maybe without Tres on the floor the team blossoms. I’m guessing Tinkle is safe, but this is like Robinson’s final year (his 6th) when you had a veteran team that never got going and finished 16-16 and 8-10 in conference. I don’t see this squad even going 6-4 the rest of the way. If more players transfer, I don’t know what you do. It isn’t like you have to worry about losing a two star if you change coaches. The other weird thing is that Tinkle has only made one change in his coaching staff since arriving – having Gottlieb be an off-court coach and bringing in Marlon Stewart.
The program does need to be shaken up one way or another. Start playing the underclassmen if only to keep them from transferring might be a start.

  33. Wayne Tinkle really deserved that extension… I mean they’ve won almost 40% of their conference games under him… This is in the conference of champions too! Can’t wait to watch these next few seasons… With all the “talent” leaving the roster he might be able to stretch that winning percentage to 30%… pretty amazing, Montana was lucky to lose him

There are a couple internet sites that were posted on or about 08 October 2019 that state he received a 1 year contract extension that takes him through the 2022-23 season. Another site with this link https://watchstadium.com/college-basketball-coaching-salary-and-buyout-database-for-2019-20-season-10-24-2019/ shows the following for the current season:

    Wayne Tinkle – Oregon State
    Total Compensation: $2,166,672
    Additional Compensation: None
Notes: $680,004 in annual salary, $1,320,000 in media and public relations compensation, $166,668 in deferred compensation that coach is entitled to if he’s employed by school until June 30, 2022 or if school terminates his employment before June 30, 2022 without cause
    Max Bonus: $950,000
Buyout if Fired Without Cause: 100% of remaining prorated $10,900,020 (includes 2019-20 compensation), which assumes same annual salary and media and public relations compensation in 2024 contract year as in 2023
Buyout if Coach Terminates Contract: $750,000
Contract Term Ends: June 30, 2024

    My Notes –
There is a difference of course between these sites when his contract expires. He was given a 6 year contract when he was hired on May 19, 2014. He got a 2 year extension on June 7, 2016. Then he received a 1 year extension on 8 October 2019. Using my math that would mean his contract goes through the 2023 – 2024 season.
That deferred compensation is per year and has been in effect since at least 2016 when he got the 2 year contract extension. So he could get more than $1 million from it if he is not fired before 2024.

I feel sorry for you guys who avidly follow OSU basketball. I have been to 120 football games in Corvallis in the last 20 years, and probably as many baseball games, but I haven’t seen a men’s game there since, I’m guessing, 1998. Must be depressing to get your hopes up every year. I mean, even Jack seemed enthusiastic!. At least football is ascending and there was no more successful college baseball program to follow this century than OSU.

So, let me stipulate that I’m not the most knowledgeable college basketball fan, but I’m here to tell you that at the start of the game vs. SC today I saw a team that didn’t give a damn. They’ve checked out. Makes me think some bad vibe is going on in the locker room.

  36. That was the most pathetic and inept display of Hoops I have seen in 25 years of following the program. Team looked checked out after barely 3 minutes of being on the floor.

USC didn’t even look like they were expelling much energy for most of the 1st half but OSU was just completely hapless for nearly 3/4 of the first half and just as awful or worse for vast stretches of the 2nd half. They finished the last 10 minutes of the game with a total whimper.

Tinkle needs to go and Barnes should be on the hook for the worst extension of the last decade of Beaver sports. What a joke of a program. Miller would be in shock and disgust at the downfall of this once great program. It’s shameful.

Hell, I’ll step up to the plate and coach the mens basketball team. The first thing I would do in addition to cleaning house, I would install this type of offense:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FEsCcco17ho

It’s a pretty simple concept but creates spacing, motion, and puts the defense in a constant state of movement. It’s about as simple as basketball can get from the offensive side of the game.

  38. Every time I think we have a chance to show they belong, this team gets fucking boat raced. Every time I think they have no chance, they win.

    • Reading the recap on Oregon Live the coach thinks its just bad defense. His starters have been around long enough – if they choose not to play defense – play someone else. I’m hoping it was just a “get through the press conference” thing. Teams focus their defense on Tres and the rest of the players still try to get him the ball instead of getting their own shot. You’d think someone outside of Tres, Ethan and Kelly would have gone off for 15 or more by now.

  39. FYI
Guinta (GINT-uh) comes to Waco from Oregon State where he served as assistant athletic director for player personnel since 2017. With nearly 20 years of experience, Guinta has spent time in the Pac-12, Big Ten, Big 12 and Mountain West conferences. In his tenure, he has guided Wisconsin and Oregon State to some of its highest-ever rated recruiting classes.

“Vince is the best recruiting guy I have been around,” Aranda said. “He’s got a knack for organization and he is very thorough in his planning. I feel like with him, we are going to attack the state of Texas and take recruiting to the next level.”

  40. Is the WBB streaming live anywhere?
Tried tuning into ESPN but the Kobe news seems to be happening in it’s place. and Pac12 app doesnt have it

  41. talk about lost weekends. fortunately Baseball begins in 18 days. Looking forward to seeing BeeG again. Hey, maybe there’ll be boat show somewhere in the Phoenix area that weekend.

  42. If you haven’t seen video of this 7’0″ Junior from Minniehaha Academy, you should check him out. He is quite a player and only a junior. Chet Holmgren. I’m friends with his cousin and she shared his information with me. Wow, just wow…but he does need to bulk up a bit.

  43. Nice win on the road for the men’s team (women won in Colorado by a bunch) – but I really wonder if the Beavs win that game if Thompson doesn’t pick up his third foul forcing Lucas into the line-up. And it still irritates me watching the offense milk the clock. Whether it is a strategy or an inability to get a shot earlier – it’s not a ringing endorsement when you don’t get a decent shot off.

  44. It’s embarassing that Pac-12 announcers don’t know how to prounce the Cayman Islands – it’s not KAY-MAN – it’s Kaymen. Honestly – as one of the few actual advertisers on the network – you’d think the account managers would be on top of things.
